20 Best Treats For Guinea Pigs (2023 Updated)

My little guinea is a sucker for these treats, the sound of the bag always gets her excited and makes her squeak a lot. She’s a very picky eater and very spoiled so her tastebud can be expensive, and lucky this treat passed the test! I avoid feeding it to her on a daily basis because I treat it as a treat instead because she’s getting a little chubby.

as you may know, I have Pepper the Chinchilla. he is a very specific eater. I have given him these bits for years. a couple months ago, I was at Petco (the store) and they did not have these bits. so I looked around and found what looked like the same thing but for birds.

so I bought a few bags. do not be misled as I was. there is a difference. apparently a big difference according to Pepper. needless to say, I went online and got the right bits. the Kaytee Forti-diet Pro health bits.

I did give the bird ones to a friend of mine who has chickens.

I have a little four year old bunny that is OBSESSED with these things! She gets so excited when I pull them out, and if there are crushed pieces, I put them in her foraging mat and she has so much fun hunting them down.

Definitely recommend!.

My Guinea pig absolutely loves these. I was super disappointed when I opened the package pulled out one of the to hook to his cage, it was filled with like cob web looking stuff on it and even hanging on the bottom of it when I pulled it out.

I threw that one out. Pulled out the second one and same thing on this one!! Except this one had an actually worm hanging at the bottom in the cob web looking stuff! Immediately threw in the trash. This is the first time I got this product from chewy and it came out the package like that.

Previously have been fine. But how does something like this get package and shipped. I was super disappointed and a little freaked out this product was shipped like that!.

Zip got sick a couple months back. She stopped eating her favorite treats, barely nibbled her greens and hay. I tried feeding her everything. I was such a mess. Her lil poops weren’t right (they were tiny and stunk so badly).

After a couple weeks of trial and error and a wasted trip to my local vet, I discovered these sticks were the only thing she would actually chow down on and imo they kept her going until I was able to get her into a good (but far away) vet who prescribed the right meds.

These treat sticks kept my baby girl from completely wasting away. They didn’t keep weight on but they kept her interested in eating. So thankful!!.

This is the most ridiculous thing ever! Almost as ridiculous as feeding your 8-month-old baby a jolly rancher! Rabbits cannot eat seeds. Ever heard of people spending $300 on their rabbit? This is why.

Rabbits and Guinea pigs get seeds stuck in their teeth and owners have to get special veterinarians to take them out! Unless you want to pay hundreds in vet bills don’t buy this product!.

I have a couple of Netherland Dwarf bunnies who are picky hay eaters. I’ve found the combo they best enjoy is timothy plus orchard grass hay, but even then they don’t go crazy for it. I’ve been using this to sprinkle over their hay and they absolutely love it! They literally do binkies and run over to their hay feeder and stick their heads in as soon as they hear the bag or see me reaching for it.

It’s like bunny nip! Getting them to eat hay is no longer a hassle and I feel confident that my bunnies are healthier. I’ve purchased other herbs (chamomile, lemon balm, dandelion, peppermint, etc. ) and they don’t love it as much as this.

Most of the herbs in the bag are perfect shred or sprinkle size, but there are some larger pieces (flowers, strawberries, and carrots) that are a perfect treat to hand feed. Would definitely recommend this for any picky hay eater and also for any critter looking for a new favorite treat!.

I always like to add nutritional value and treats to my bun bun’s (a female double mained lionhead) pellet mix and staple hay. This is what I have been looking for Kaytee! These dried fruits and flowers are a perfect mix in for her regular snacks that provides excellent suppliments to her nutritional staples.

It definately going to be a regular on my shipping menu from now on!.

I have had rescue chins for many years and my chins loved the apple banana and cranberry Simple Rewards treats. I’d have given 5 stars as they smelled like the fruit and the chins came running every day for their treat.

I knew one may be sick if he or she didn’t come eagerly looking to get their treat, so it helped me know to get them to the vet right away much earlier. Now the new treats are too thick (can’t easily break in half) and they don’t have the fresh fruit aroma.

The chins won’t eat them at all. If I can get them to even hold one, they drop it right away. It’s very sad. I have had good communication with Oxbow for many years and I’ve reported the feedback here from myself and others in hopes they will change it back.

Here’s what they’d told me previously: “There have not been any ingredient changes to the Apple Banana and Cranberry Simple Reward Treats, but you will notice that there is a change in treat shape is a result of an update to the processing equipment (specifically the molds) used to manufacture the products.

The new shape is designed to reduce the amount of breakage and crumbling in the package due to shipping and transport. ”.

Been buying these treats in multiple varieties for years and our guinea pig had always loved these and happily taken them whenever offered. But he *hates* the new version – thicker shape and changed flavor.

Well at least I assume he hates them because he absolutely refuses them. He comes up to the cage near me and requests treats multiple times a day. If I give him the old variety (still have a bag or two left) he happily takes it.

If I give him the new variety (i keep multiple bags of treats open so he gets a variety of ones throughout the day) he will refuse it. I leave it there and he never touches it. I break it up – nothing.

I put it in warm water to soften it – nothing. I doubt it has anything to do with the shape or it being thicker because he won’t even touch it. I contacted oxbow cs and they acknowledge the change but don’t seem to have taken any feedback as a sign to change things which is odd cause if you look at the reviews here and in the other variety almost all the 1 star reviews are recent and site the new version.

So I won’t waste my money on these simple rewards any more.

I would give these 2 1/2 stars at this point. As folks have already pointed out, these treats have changed. They don’t have the same banana scent; they are larger and harder. I break them in half, which I think helps the Guinea Pigs & Rabbit to eat them; they do seem to be eating them.

I give broken up pieces of treats in small bowls so my small pets can nibble at their discretion. Maybe the diminished scent isn’t important to them. I think the treats are too hard and difficult to break but maybe this is better for their teeth.

I didn’t mind the change to the Oxbow Veggie Treats; they were every bit as liked by my small pets, and I thought, smelled even better. They aren’t as hard as these are, so I can more easily break them into smaller pieces.

I will try the other treats in the new formula, such as the Carrot & Dill, and will continue to buy the Veggie treats, but I won’t be getting the Apple Banana flavor again.

Hello my name is Silver. I am a Winter White Dwarf hamster. I like these treats. They are the perfect size for me to hold. When I come out for playtime I always get one. My human is amazing. The only bad thing is that the outside part has hay in it.

Hay is not very good for a hamster. We have problems digesting it. So I can only get 3 a week at the max. Other then the hay, these are so yummy! I have a sister, her name is PorkChop and she is a guinea pig.

These treats are her favorite. They are perfect for her because guinea pig need hay but she can only have a couple week because of the berry/inside. I would love if my human keeps getting them for me.

You know when you eat that favorite decadent food you love. ? And you half close your eyes in pure delight as you savor that yummy scrummy flavor. That’s what our bun does when I give him one of these treats!!! I have never seen him behave like this when receiving a treat or even a piece of fruit.

He absolutely LOVES these treats and I am so happy to buy them for him. He will be 7 years old this August and with a said Lifespan of 10 years? He is running around like a youngin when he receives one of these treats.

This are good seems my rabbit likes them. they are about 1. 76 ounces. But very expensive if you were to buy these over. would usually only pay around 1-2 for treats and this should be around a cheaper prices due to how much they serve in the bag , I’m not a cheapskate and usually spend a large sum of money every month or two for my rabbits food and toys , supplies , and litter in store and online plus.

So of course I bought them regardless of price , but I found it a bit petty at the same time.

I’ve had several of these things and my rats have always loved them. They last for weeks, even when I have a LOT of rats working on it, but they’re not such a desirable treat that it causes fights unless it’s worn down to a very small nub.

The stuffing has never been a problem–there’s never been a weird smell or mold or anything, and the nontoxic edible glue they use on the seeds is quite harmless. I’ve seen concerns about impaction. I don’t know much about rabbits, chinchillas, or guinea pigs–but I do know they’re obligate herbivores AND obligate chewers! They have delicate, specialized digestion systems AND they MUST chew if they want to keep their teeth trimmed.

My inexpert opinion: I would not recommend this toy for those animals. Rats are omnivores and scavengers, they seem to handle this kind of thing better, and because they don’t HAVE to chew to trim their teeth, after a while they’d rather eat real food.

It’s a nice texture toy to them, not a meal. Over a dozen rats in various stages of health later and none of them have had any issues. Even my creakiest elderlies enjoy these.

I was about to open this to give to my rabbit and realized rabbits should not have corn or seeds. I thought this was a completely different product. This company should not be marketing these kinds of treats to rabbit owners.

Chewy don’t you do product research?.

So these bad boys right here to contain alafa which isn’t recommended to have in your rabbits diet after 3/4 months of age. So I highly highly highly recommend these to anyone who has young little bunnies.

They will love them I promise. However in moderation I also recommend these for older buns as well. I have two and always let them share this treat and it last for about a week and a half with them going crazy trying to get all the goods.

And the outside is even great for keeping their teeth filed. Honestly this is probably the best treat for keeping teeth short and healthy however again with older rabbits keep it moderate or they will just blow up into large chunky buns.

All my pigs seem to love this snack when I bought it from another pet store, and I was happy to find this snacks on Chewy. I was a little dissatisfied when I open because the snacks inside doesn’t smell fresh , and the sticks seem a bit hard to break compared to the one I purchased in store.

Maybe this bag is close to expiration date?! Well, my pigs still love it and have them 2x/week. I will repurchase second time to see if qualify will improve then decide if I’d recommend to buy it online or not.

We did a large treat assessment for our facebook page Fosters Home for Extraordinary Guinea Pigs – we have 19 guinea pigs and these treats were one of the favorites of all of them. The ingredients are much to be desired starting with wheat and corn – but again the pigs enjoyed them.

My girl has a super sensitive GI tract, and goes into stasis with anything much more than Timothy hay. She comes running when she hears greens going to the pigs, and even wants a nibble of the cat treats.

none of which she can have. I’ve tried a lot of rabbit treats, but they all seem to have added sugar, molasses, sweetener, that that gets her gut going. These have no added sugars. They DO have corn though, which some don’t like.

But they are a great, successful treat for my Flemmie. She loves them, comes running and her gut accepts them. Have already ordered more and have them now on my autoship.

I bought this a week ago and have already gone through 3 1/2 sticks. My two males absolutely love these treats!! Everything inside gives them different options of snacks that they have the option to eat.

This has now become a staple in my little piggy’s food. He enjoys this particular brand of sticks. I’ve tried the others that have a coating on the outside – and he just eats off the part that doesn’t have the coating.

I like the fact that there’s a variety of seeds in this stick.

I am a classroom teacher and I have very persnickety guinea pigs! They LOVE lettuce, but HATE tomatoes. They LOVE carrots, but HATE oranges. Needless to say we have tried a variety of treats to enhance their daily diet.

These crunch sticks have been a HUGE HIT with my guinea ladies. Miss Penny prefers the berry flavor and will munch and crunch on this as soon as it enters her cage. Captain Bean and Pigtunia prefer the fruit & honey stick and will push each other out of the way to get a turn at eating it.

As a proud guinea pig mom, I am most happy when I can give my girls treats that they enjoy and won’t be wasted. These sticks also have a double purpose because after the treat is gone, (which doesn’t take long for my girls), they can chew on the wood to help keep their teeth the appropriate length! My rabbit loves these treats! Although higher in sugar, it is okay once and awhile and he will do absolutely anything for one! They have helped us to train him and have him do tricks. I 100% support these treats as nothing else makes him as happy or excited.

My bunny went crazy for these treats! She loves fruit as well so I expected this. I only gave her a few every couple of weeks so I really got my moneys worth out of the bag. I looked at the ingredients and it was all things commonly found in the food I eat everyday.

I could have very well ate the treats as well if I wanted to. I love knowing what goes into the food my rabbit eats. I recommend these to any bunny owner!.

I found that this product made my hamster not feel the absolute greatest. He enjoyed it going down but coming out was a different story, alot messier then normal and the ones that dont get eaten go gross/weird.

Would not recommend.

This is my first time buying this forage from this brand and my bunnies loved it. I normally sprinkle this forage on their hay to encourage them eating their hay more! This forage contains of sunflower, strawberries and much more different flowers! Perfect for all small animals! However, I do wish that this bag comes a bit bigger for the price paid.

We have two gueina pigs and one that loves anything with flowers in it. This product has huge pieces of marigold in it that send him into a happy dance. There is also huge pieces of real strawberries.

It’s a nice treat to give your little ones that is also good for them made with real ingredients.

The KAYTEE FORTI-DIET NATURAL TOPPINGS PREMIUM TREAT MEDLEY is a unique treat option. In addition to fruit and vegtables (carrot, spinach and strawberry) it also contains dried marigold and rose petals.

Although still eaten by our guinea pig, I believe this is his least favorite out of the Kaytee treat varieties.

My guinea pigs love these treats. But I read online that guinea pigs are lactose intolerant and should avoid having dairy/yogurt drops. If you feed these to your guinea pigs I’d recommend feeding it with hay or another treat from oxbow/sunburst so they don’t get sick! Overall they love these treats!.

Love these!!! My guinea pig eats these everyday and loves these as treats (his favorite). He will overeat if I don’t stop eating them so I do have to set a limit but he will eat all the flavors very quickly even if he’s full.

I would reccommend these to guinea pig owners for sure!.

These are a necessity for my guinea pigs. They’re basically the only thing, besides hay and carrots, they get super excited for. It’s part of their daily routine too!

These can be great for bunnies and guinea pigs with a slight change. I just remove fillers and replace them with hay, herbs, and flowers. My guinea pigs seem to enjoy rolling these and pulling out the forage mix I’ve added.

As long as you remove the seed fillers and your pet doesn’t chew/eat these excessively- it can be a really fun toy.

These seemingly tasty/fun logs were the reason my rabbit had to be put to sleep. My New Zealand rabbit chewed and ate one and got very impacted. There was no saving him and we had to put him to sleep.

If you do buy one make sure your rabbit only has it for a short amount of time. I’d never buy one again, it isn’t worth risking my pets life.

My guinea pigs really liked this treat. However, I’ve read that corn is not good for guinea pigs and corn is the second ingredient listed on the package. I don’t know if that’s just someone’s opinion or not.

But, just in case, I won’t be ordering any more of it.

Our guinea pig, Oreo, LOVES these treats! She just gets so excited & begins squealing when I put one in her cage. If you have a guinea pig, I’d highly recommend getting one for your furry friend! The only thing that would make this treat even more amazing (more convenient) would be to add a hanger to this yummy treat.

I recently adopted my first 2 guinea pigs. One of them, Maui, is super picky with everything he eats and the other, Pua, is very food motivated! I bought the Dandelion and the Marigold packs. I love how these supplements have become a routine in our home! Every morning I top off their refill of pellets with a few Marigold buds.

Pua loves the whole flower, but Maui will only eat the petals and leave the rest. When they start to wheek for their “after-dinner” snack – I hand feed some Dandelion flakes. It’s helped them become comfortable with me and see me as “the lady that gives us yummy things”.

I have not seen any negative side effects from them eating these 2 supplements, which is great! I will NEED to buy these again once we’re out! Haha.

I’ve been purchasing the various herbal products from Guinea Dad for a while. My two guinea pigs LOVE this stuff! The Raspberry Leaf, Marigold, Dandelion, and Pea Flakes, they just devour it! As I write this I am about to order more Raspberry Leaf.

All products are well packaged and smell wonderful. Shipping is fast, my little monsters don’t go without at all. Highly recommend trying them!.

I’ve given these treats to our pigs for years. It was a good alternative to the junk treats out there. However, the formula has changed. Compared to the original formula, you can smell way more barley, oat, and cane molasses than timothy hay.

I truly don’t think it’s the hardness. Mine won’t eat the new multivitamin formula, either. Pretty sure you could put milk on them and eat them yourself. I have emailed customer support at Oxbow several times.

They told me to “put fruit juice on them, steam them, or break them up”. If you know about guinea pigs, they probably should not have fruit juice everyday, if at all. Obviously, Oxbow has NO intention of switching the formula back to the original.

Going to get a processor and try to make my own. I HIGHLY recommend buying only 1 package to see if your furbaby(s) will eat them before you buy in bulk or autoship like I did. I’m stuck with $30 of open treat bags that mine won’t eat.

The wooden stick and clip to secure these to the cage is a godsend! Pigs have gone crazy over these crunchy things but they also have to work for it which is nice and enriching for them! I love that there are three flavours too so they won’t get bored!.

My guinea pigs love these sticks and they are very good value for money. Good to leave in the cage for them to have when they want over a period of time.

My hamsters LOVE these treats. There very healthy and are extremely good for hamsters teeth. They are also pretty affordable for the amount you get!

Like many of the Vitakraft offerings for exotics, this is a good one. Both it and the Alfalfa variety are excellent. They really are crunchy. Be prepared for your Baby to serenade you with a happy ‘crunch, crunch, crunch.

I originally bought these thinking my guinea pigs would love them. Not so much. Completely ignored them. Luckily, I also volunteer at a bunny sanctuary and the bunnies absolutely adored these crunchy treats.

Now, whenever I go out there, I take two or three of these bags along with my usually bunches of parsley. Always easier to make friends when you share delicious treats. Also, these are pretty cheap, so it’s not a big deal to buy more than one bag at a time.

The first time I ordered these, I was so happy. My little rabbit never likes treats I get her, but she loved these. I always broke them in half for her so she didn’t just eat them and not her food. The second time I ordered them, they were so hard, if I wanted to break them in half, I had to use a hammer and screwdriver.

So, I just decided I’ll give her whole ones since that was too much trouble. She wouldn’t eat them, assuming they were probably too hard to eat too. We picked up some from the local pet store, and they were easy for me to break again.

Second time we bought from the pet store, they were too hard, third time getting them off Chewy, and they’re still too hard. I want to get more treats for her, but I feel like it’s so inconsistent in if it’s a waste or not! Won’t buy these again until i can be certain what I’m getting.
