A tool for cutting screws is a tool that can be used to cut screws. There are many different types of these tools available on the market, and they can be used for a variety of different purposes. Some of these tools are designed for specific types of screws, while others can be used for any type of screw.
Cut bolts, chains, threaded rods, and more using the TEKTON 24 in. Forged and hardened alloy steel jaws driven by a compound hinge deliver superior cutting power with less effort. Strong, high-leverage tubular steel handles will not twist or give under load, so you can confidently tackle even the toughest tasks.
The soft rubber grips offer non-slip comfort, and the jaws are both adjustable and replaceable for long-lasting versatility.
These were bought to cut chain link fencing however, surprisingly, so far the only thing I have used them for is to make a flower bouquet. I happened to have them on hand in a flower emergency (needed a bouquet asap to take to a gravesite).
They worked better than scissors for this craft. Often flower stems dull scissors and break scissors’ handles. These bolt cutters made cutting the tough flower stems quick and easy and I plan to keep them readily available for “off use” jobs like flower arrangements (as well as their intended use of cutting chain link).
For it’s size, I was extremely pleased. I had to cut through wire with tube coating and it performed perfectly. Remember the key word is Mini!!!; but I was on my roof with other tools and it was nice this piece took no effort.
Even though this is a real bargain in price it is not quite as good as advertised. Cutting bolts 1/16 inch less than the max, it is advertised to cut, required considerable effort and I had too many bolts to cut to use it.
Yes it cut the bolts but not with the efficiency and effort I needed. It cuts wire with no real effort but I bought it to cut bolts. So yes it does work but not up to my expectations.
The Ridgid S24 Bolt Cutter (14223) features hardened alloy steel jaws that are designed and manufactured to assure the longest possible blade life. A one-step internal cam mechanism provides the quickest and simplest way to keep the cutting blades precisely aligned.
Handles and grips designed to allow greater mechanical advantage for crisp, controlled cutting.
As others have mentioned these are a bit heavy at first if you are not used to working with bolt cutters. That being said, you will find that they make the job quite easy when you need to cut as the compound action makes it simple.
Since they are heavy duty, you may want to get a smaller pair like I did for tidying up the wire shelving that I had to cut. These 2 worked great for that task! I also tested this pair on a padlock shackle and what a breeze it was to cut.
Excellent pair of cutters. I bought this to cut through a tow chain to break it down into smaller useable pieces and was expecting it to be tough. This thing cuts through chain like butter, it was practically effortless.
After going with a rigid bolt cutter, I realize that I’ve never in my life used a truly good tool in the past. This thing will spoil you.
I accidentally locked my Master Lock keys into my pelican case. Very expensive accident but. they worked perfectly. After a lot of of research I decided to give these bolt cutters a try. And I’m glad I did.
They’re pretty pricey but you know the saying you get what you pay for. If you’re worried they won’t work against an industrial master lock. guess again !.
An all-around tool for the toughest demands, Knipex high-leverage CoBolt fencing bolt cutters feature a lever action design that applies 20 times more hand force for superior cutting power with less effort.
This mini bolt cutter can cut through more than you ever thought possible. It’s ideal for automotive or construction applications, cutting cotter pins and nails, repeated use in factory assembly lines, cutting wire fencing in agricultural settings, or even everyday tasks such as cutting floral wire or fish hooks.
Forged from chrome vanadium electric steel, it’s built to last.
I’ve never regretted paying a bit more to get something that I knew, when needed, it would do what it needed to do! Bought these for musky fishing – to cut the hooks out of a musky’s mouth if it is necessary to save the musky.
With musky fishing, nothing matters more than a proper and safe release of the fish. I’ve used these cutters all but one time so far! To cut two stainless steel hooks – the one stuck in the mouth of the northern pike, the other to cut the other hook on the same lure out of my hand! Of course, I figured it would be wise to cut the hook still in the Pike’s mouth first! I figured, at least I could see just how tough of a cut that was going to be? These Knipex cutters went through that hook with ease! We were able to release that fish within 90 seconds of boating it – no revival necessary – it swam away with good speed upon being released.
The other part of the lure, still embedded in my hand (fortunately went in one area and came out – barb and all – a second area of my hand) was cut free as well. Zero pain during the cutting process.
Simply lined up the cutters, gave a good, single squeeze, and the hook was cut in two. No cranking on the handle to get it to go through, no partial cut – adjust – cut the rest of the way through. This is simply one of the tools, that when you need it, for your wellbeing or that of a beautiful fish – YOU JUST DON’T WANT TO TRUST SOME CHEAP CHINESE MADE KNOCK OFF PRODUCT THAT SIMPLY WON’T PERFORM RELIABLY.
What I’ve found, when one’s health and wellbeing is at stake, you simply never want to be stuck with a Chinese made knock-off product determining the outcome. If you are looking at these for fishing, for your safety and that of large fish, this is one area that you don’t want to buy cheap Chinese crap that will not work properly.
I have numerous Knipex tools now, tending towards better quality tools as I age. I almost, almost cheaped out and bought a pair that would probably have worked for 1/3 the cost but I decided to treat myself.
I’m glad I did. I’m taking down all the old field fencing on the interior of my property, leaving the perimeter fencing. I’ve been making do with some other fencing pliers I have but it’s been a struggle.
These came in today and a quick test shows them to be a superior product. They cut through the fencing like butter. My old arthritic hands personally thanked me. I’m probably looking at a couple of thousand cuts so it really is money well spent.
I keep finding old wire fencing around my rural yard. Fencing that simple rolled up and shoved into the ground, or wrapped around trees, or other strange things. Who knows what happened on my property years before I moved here.
I can carry these cutters with me to cut through any of this old, obnoxious fencing to remove it. The price is high, but other snips didn’t hold up. The handle is plastic covered, but I have used other tools with wider handles that are more comfortable to use.
Overall, I think this is the best option available for my purposes, of cutting through heavy wire when needed.
The Knipex High Leverage CoBolt Fencing Pliers are designed with reduced cutting-edge hardness to allow more pressure on the sides of the cutting edges (e. g. for making fences). The precision cutting edges will cut soft and hard wire.
Cutting capacity: maximum 4 mm for hard wire. Cuts material like bolts, nails, rivets, etc. up to 5. 2 mm diameter. Exceptional cutting performance with minimum effort because of new lever action design providing a 20:1 ratio.
Cutting edges are induction hardened, cutting edge hardness approximately 62 HRC. Made of chrome vanadium heavy-duty steel forged, oil-hardened.
An all-around tool for the toughest demands, this KNIPEX high-leverage CoBolt cutter features a lever action design that applies 20 times more hand force for superior cutting power with less effort. This mini bolt cutter can cut through more than you ever thought possible — up to 1/4 inch diameter with ease.
It’s ideal for automotive or construction applications, cutting cotter pins and nails, repeated use in factory assembly lines, cutting wire fencing in agricultural settings, or even everyday tasks such as cutting floral wire or fish hooks.
German quality, great feel, cut with ease. I do a lot of older home renovation work and I’m constantly encountering finish nails that need to be removed and when they can’t be removed, I clip them. Some of the older nails from the ’20’s and 30’s are like iron and are tough to cut in tight quarters with high end standard diagonal cutters.
These mini-bolt cutters work great for tight spaces with tough to cut fasteners. Not cheap but it’s money well invested versus time wasted screwing around with an inaccessible fastener that needs to be gone.
This is by far the best pair of cutters on the market. If you can get it in its jaws it will cut it. Knipex may not be USA made but the quality and construction are on par or superior to anything made domestically.
Worth every cent. This is the second pair of these that I have owned, the first was the normal set, the second was this one with the ergonomic grip which I find much more comfortable to use for extended periods of use.
You should definitely get a pair of these. And check out their other products. I’d give 7 stars if I could.
You can’t beat Knipex, at this point I have replaced all my pliers with this brand and haven’t looked back. Awesome to still buy a tool that is high-quality, feels good from an ergonomics perspective, and will last! I used this tool to cut roofing nails that poked through on my kids playhouse I built, the angle was key here to get a close cut to the sheathing.
It was only a matter of time however before my wife figured out that she could use these to cut those fake wire flower stems in floral arrangement she was making, even she noticed a difference and now uses them more than Me lol.
Small tool, big impact those used to working with standard bolt cutters will appreciate how user-friendly the CoBolt 71 31 200 is. Thanks to their practical size of 8 inches and low weight of less than 14 Oz.
the strong compact bolt cutters are quickly at hand and are also a powerful partner in demanding situations, such as when working above head height. Even the hardest wire is no problem, and they master piano wire reliably.
When cutting bolts, nails and rivets up, you benefit from maximum power and convenient handling. This high cutting performance is the result of long-standing engineering experience. The precision cutting edges made of chrome-vanadium high performance steel are induction hardened and therefore guarantee the greatest cutting edge hardness.
The particularly efficient lever action mechanism guarantees an extremely favorable lever ratio with simultaneously low friction. The CoBolt reinforces the hand force used to grip the handles 35 times over.

I bought these croppers for a specific job, they cut through 8mm+ rusty old bolts which were hard crusty rust, harder than clean. They went through better than my arm muscles. For the price I would recommend them.
I cant fill in the reliability bit cos I’ve only had them 3-4 days.
Item purchased to cut sheets of A142 reinforcing mesh which is 6mm diameter. These bolt cutters needed very little effort to cut through the 6mm steel. I was going to use a grinder but this saved a lot of time hassle and associated risks that come with grinding any material.

Cutters that they say can cut bolts and wire do cut bolts and wire. Limited choice of colours but I don’t think that affects their cutting ability. Seriously check that the jaws open to the width you want – this is not obvs from the catalogue info – and I think depends on the length of the cutters.
I bought it to cut tough wires used to reinforced a wall structure and I couldn’t cut with a wire plier (I have tried hard but I could barely scratch the wires 🙂 ). It did the job perfectly. Happy to have it now and I would recommend it.
With a double compound action design, and chrome moly steel jaw construction, the DOYLE bolt cutters offer superior cutting performance. Tubular steel handles, and a compound action design provide maximum leverage, allowing you to cut thicker materials with over 20% less effort.
The cutting edges are adjustable for precise cuts every time.
I work as a truck driver and I cut anywhere from 1-5 bolt style seals off of trailers a day and these have held up great, the cutters are nice and hard to cut the steal pins on a seal but bit so hard that they chip.
They are a little weird the first time you use them because of the way they open but you get used to it fast. I’ve only owned them a couple weeks but they work great for me and the price is right. I picked them up because the cutters broke on my last set and I need something for the day but I’ll hang onto these because they seem well built and the handles have a nice hand feel.
I will be letting the others drivers I see know about them. By far the cheapest set for the quality you get.
I bought this bolt cutter to repair my snow chains. This cuts up to 7/32 chain links. It made repairing it much faster and easier. Originally, I was using a cutting wheel. I will probably use it to cut locks too.
So far it works very well. I inspected the cutting blades and they are still sharp. I found no damages to the blades so far. I’m happy with the purchase.
Since I bought the highest price cutters I was pleased to hear that they had a lifetime guarantee. Good thing because the first time being used a nut came off and was lost in the grass / ground. My husband fortunately had a supply of different sized nuts that he replaced the lost one with and finished his wire cutting job.
We took them back to the store and traded them for another pair (same model) and they preformed well when cutting 1/2″ chain.
Designed for maximum leverage, these bolt cutters are ideal for cutting rods, bolts, bars and chains. The high carbon machined steel jaws on the bolt cutters are fully adjustable to maintain a perfect cutting edge.
Picture this……It was a warm August night at one of America’s storage facilities. I parked the car and reached behind me to retrieve my favorite bolt cutter, the Pittsburgh 24” bolt cutter of course. As I, using both hands, lifted the Pittsburgh 24” bolt cutter from its car seat I couldn’t help but compliment it on its glamorous yet rugged looks and feel.
Rounding the corner to the unruly storage unit I was there to deal with I snickered as I noticed the lock trying to free itself from the locking saddle and escape into the pleasantly warm evening. “Resistance is futile!” I calmly exclaimed.
“The end is near for you and your days of impeding my access to things I don’t need have come to a grinding halt. ” I could hear the defenseless lock talking to itself, trying to explain away what it knew was CERTAIN DOOM! Hoisting the Pittsburgh 24” bolt cutters up to the one whose time was numbered I opened the bolt cutter, not too wide and not too narrow.
Taking a satisfied moment to thank the universe for bringing me and my trusty Pittsburgh 24” bolt cutter together I effortlessly closed the bolt cutter, severing the carotid artery of the feckless felon who had made my life a full color nightmare for the last 15 minutes.
The authoritative cracrunch I heard told me all I needed to know. We were VICTORIOUS!! Pitt and I had waged another campaign against an evil villain and because of its dastardly deeds slay the perpetrator right there in Sally’s Storage bay 14.
Bought this on the fly since I lost the key to my trailer hitch lock. Expected to pay a lot more for a bolt cutter but I was in a rush so I dropped by the Harbor Freight in the area and saw this. The size was great and cut the lock off in a second allowing me to drop the trailer off with family while I completed my trip.
The cost was actually less than the lock I had to cut off and certainly less than the extra gas I would have had to buy towing the trailer around. While I hope no one ever needs a bolt cutter, if you do this is a great buy.
I got this just to cut some rebar that the previous homeowner planted four feet deep in the backyard (it had grown to a height of 6 feet!) to make a trellis. I had to brace one handle against the ground and use my superhuman strength but with the Planet Earth on one side and me on the other it was quite literally a snap! The rebar had spread so I had to cut six or seven more.
The cutter did just fine. I can now use it for other purposes. It seems like it is made well enough to last for a while. Just a reminder: only use tools as intended and observe all safety precautions.
The CoBolt 71 21 200 with the 20 Deg angled pliers head has been designed for all jobs where you need to cut as close as possible to the surface below. Protruding nails, screws, wire or strands with diameters up to 6 mm can be cut flush thanks to its sophisticated design with joint bar on one side.
This means it offers enough space for gripping even in confined work situations.
knipex is always producing high quality tooling, these cutters are very nice. good feel in the hand. 3/16″ mild steel rod is a bit tough to cut through with the leverage of this particular set. they will do it but you’ll have to work on it.
no dents in the blades either after cutting many sections. so i believe they are tough enough for non abusive use and would really last a lifetime, they cut nails just fine too. the offset “flush” cut is almost perfect, a little more flush cut would be nice but i think you sacrifice blade strength drastically.
i might modify mine to be a bit closer to flush. #sweepstakes.
Bought this to remove “shiner” nail points from under the eves. Cuts the nails easily and flush enough that with paint touch up we don’t notice all the mistakes the contractor made. Also cuts a variety of solid wire, fencing, etc.
Very good for cutting steel wire, nails and mesh up to around 4mm. I have the ones with a cut out in the blade that stops rolling up of item to be cut. Very comfortable to use and surprisingly little effort required to cut.
For cutting soft, medium and hard materials up to HRC48 hardness. Center cut jaws for use where flush cuts are not required. Forged Powerlink jaws and induction hardened blades deliver 30% effort reduction for easier cutting, ultimate toughness, and long cutting life.
Tubular steel handles with comfort grips provide extra strength and cutting power. Cuts bolts, nuts, rods, screws, rivets, chain, reinforcing rod, nails, chain link fence, hard alloy chain, threaded rod, tire chains, reinforcing mesh, baling wire, wrought iron, strapping steel, copper wire, electric and copper wire, padlock hasps, wire shelving, wire spring.
I chose this tool for cutting pencil rod and all-thread at work. Being a carpenter at a large NYC hospital we do a lot of ceiling installation. I love the compound cutting action. It takes out all the fatigue I used to get after a day of making rod cuts.
The handles are more comfortable than most and the adjustment screw on the side of the tool gives an amount of adjustment not found in others. I let the locksmith at my hospital borrow them as well and he reported that it cut smaller padlock hasps with no trouble at all using less force than required with his traditional set.
Heavy-duty bolt cutters >>> everyone should own a set as durable as these! My team is often called to remove old, abandoned padlocks all across campus. We make sure to carry a set of bolt cutters in every service vehicle.
These cutters are extremely durable, sharp and able to easily remove even the sturdiest locks & chains.
Had to cut some chain and went to grab the metabo like I normally do, then I remembered I had these. Very comfortable grip. Cut the chain effortlessly. Good leverage and not too heavy. Feels like a quality tool.

Induction hardened cutting edges with recessed notch User friendly and robust locking device that is easy to use with gloves 60% less force to cut than standard Linesman Pliers Heavy duty spring creates a smooth cutting operation Co-mold handles for superior comfort Industrial Grade Compact Bolt Cutter to rival cutter quality and performance of Knipex at close to half the price.
Industry leading force required to cut hard and very hard materials. Induction hardened edges for cutting hard wires and long term durability. Gap recess to hold material close to pivot point. Comfortable handles for repetitive cuts on hard materials.
I bought this hoping it would cut the crimp off a pex cinch ring. It sort of works if you can catch just half of the cinch and not both halves, but it’s not the cutting brute I hoped for. This is much sturdier than my side cutters and end cutting dikes, but not much of a bolt cutter.
The quality of the metal and hinge seems good and it hasn’t broken yet, so its pretty good, but you should know its limits. If you need to cut 1/8 or larger hard metal, you may need something else.
I own a Kniper bolt 71 12 200 cutter that is very similar in size and cutting strength to this H. K. Porter model, 08090SMC. Both the Kniper and the H. K. Porter models appear to be well made. I did some comparison testing between the two and the Kniper model does cut more smoothly and cleanly.
For only three dollars more at the time of this review, the Kniper is well worth the extra expense compared to the H. K. Porter model. I do find the release latch somewhat easier to use on the H. K. Porter than on the Kniper.
But the opening spring on the H. K. Porter is weak and I have to push the device open manually with the handles to get the jaws wide enough to do anything. This would quite irritating if you were using the H.
K. Porter model for more than a few quick cuts per use. The Kniper model claims to be made in Germany while the H. K. Porter model is made in China. German quality is generally superior to Chinese quality for comparable products.
Also, the Kniper product comes with a lifetime guarantee so that shows some confidence by the manufacturer in the quality of their products, which are highly regarded in any event.
This is a seriously useful tool. It bridges the gap between heavy diagonal cutters and an all out large bolt cutter. This cutter has extremely hard blades. I would be very surprised if you could bend them trying to cut anything.
The handles do provide compound leverage so you will be able to cut heavier material. The blades can handle fairly heavy chain. I can’t. There isn’t enough advantage provided by the short handles. However, if you need to cut some BX cable or heavy romex, this tool will make short work of the job.
I was able to easily cut 6 and 8 gauge machine screws. You do have to file the cut edge to make the threads work, but that’s normal. There is one thing I didn’t like, hence the four star rating, the return spring doesn’t open the blades all the way.
It’s too weak to do that. Since I don’t do a lot of repetitive cutting with a bolt cutter like this, I don’t mind the extra resistance when I close the blades. I do mind that I have to pull the handles to fully open them.
Maybe the problem is with the sample I got, but it is a minor annoyance. HK Porter tools have an excellent reputation. I am sure this tool will last a lifetime. The price is good and if you have those medium-duty cutting jobs like romex or heavy wires (#6 and above), this will be a very nice addition to your toolbox.

I’ve built miles of hi tensile fence over my career, these were a great discovery back in 2001 or so. I’ve onLy used for straight cuts on appropriately sized wire, 11 ga I think, cuts effortlessly. Lasts forever under these conditions, the ones buried in grass or cow pies not so much.
If you ever struggle with hand strength when cutting wire, buy these. If you cut wire all day long, buy these. Or one of the knipex models.
Exceptional cutting performance: 60% less effort compared to conventional high leverage diagonal cutters. Induction hardened cutting edges (approx. 64 HRC) for cutting soft, hard and piano wire. IT cuts materials like bolts, nails, rivets, etc.
up to 13/64 in. (5. 3 mm) Dia. Exceptional cutting performance with minimum effort because of new lever action design. Micro-structured cutting edges allow easy cutting of large cross-sections. Gripping surface below the joint for gripping and pulling wires with a diameter from 3/64 in.
Recess in the blade allows easier cutting of thicker wires, the wire won’t slip out.
Bought these to cut though “pigtails” on tractor truck trailers – this is the equivalent to medium rod at just under 4. 0mm (3. 95 to be exact, I measured). The rod is soft enough that it can be bent by hand once, but hard enough to be difficult, if not impossible, to unbend.
Anyway, I did a lot of research on this, and Knipex looked the best, though it was hard to choose exactly which model, since many of them look the same. I’ll tell you what, the tool looks GREAT – definitely worth the money you spent on looks alone.
This is clearly a well designed and manufactured tool, not some cheap Chinese knockoff. However, it let down sorely in the actual cutting department. It did cut the rod – just barely. I had to use two hands, and it was a struggle, and that’s a contradiction to what the ad copy claims.
It’s also noteworthy, I think, to point out that the blades on the pair I got did not resemble the picture on the listing. Design change? Maybe there lies the problem. I do wish these had worked, I had very high hopes for them, and am very, very disappointed that they did not live up to expectations.
These are the smallest bolt cutters you can get. They are designed for smaller jobs. I decided to try if they could cut solid steel link chain. The picture speaks for itself. It took multiple attempts but I managed to slowly cut through this material clearly designed for the larger pairs.
I therefore think that with a bit of effort, they can cut through pad locks. Was going to buy the larger set but realised these will do the job with a bit of elbow grease. Just look at the jaws of mine.
Not even dented the slightest. I am well impressed.
Cutting capacity 6. 0 mm soft wire. Cutting capacity mm medium hard wire 5,2. Cutting capacity hard wire 4,0 mm. Cutting capacity wire type piano wire 3. 6 mm. Precision cutting edges for soft, hard and piano wire rope.

Cutting capacity up to 48 Hrc. Forged knives and joints of steel. Knife made of chrome vanadium high-performance steel, hardened in oil and tempered. Precision cutting edges additionally induction hardened, cutting edge hardness approx.
62 Hrc. Forged stop with comfortable damper. Good accessibility due to very flat head and joint area. Powder-coated tubular steel legs, ergonomically angled for fatigue-free working. Robust and very grippy two-color multi-component grips.
Precise adjustment (12-fold) and adjustment by eccentric screws. High cutting performance with low effort due to optimal adjustment of cutting angle and gear ratio. Replaceable screwed knife head.
I’m gonna be honest here! I really had no real need for a tool of this design and calibre! I just wanted it! And lemme tell ya, I’m thrilled I bought it! This thing has cut through some VERY tough Masterlock padlocks.
It’s a really thrilling tool! I’m gonna take good care of it! And when SHTF, it’s going with me as I ‘bug out’!.
