20 Best Sliding Glass Door Security Bar (2023 Updated)

I use one on my door and another one on a sliding door. They work perfect. The parts fit good. At first the parts fell off but it turns out I had put them together wrong. Once I fixed that, no complaints.

I bought one of these for added security to my duplex apartment. It’s very very sturdy and works so well in my bedroom window I am buying more for all my windows now! Highly recommend this item!! Very easy to assemble and put in place!!.

This is a fabulous product. I had boards at the bottom of the sliding glass doors, so glad to get rid of the boards. I do think they are a little over priced but its working well

Very easy to install and looks clean and streamlined. Nice to be able to place it at an easy to use height.

Easy to install. Lock on patio broke and this was a great alternative to replacing.

My neighborhood has been changing over the last year and I had never felt the need for utilizing a security bar in my sliding glass door until now. I purchased this bar with much anxiety but found out quickly that my anxiety was unnecessary! This bar is well made and extremely strong!!!!!! So glad that I made this purchase for I sleep soundly knowing that the security bar is in it’s place.

This does exactly what it is intended to do, very sturdy bar. It’s a little tricky to get the length set exactly where you want it, but once there it stays there. Our sliding door is very old and missing most of the rollers, so it sits at a bit of an angle leaving a slight gap at the top.

For us this bar serves double duty, not only providing added security, but also to hold the top of the door in place so the heat doesn’t leak out of the house. Love it!.

My neighborhood has had some problems with the homeless. I wanted some added security for the sliding glass door. You can pull it out and screw to tighten. I have it out to where the door cannot be opened.

I am very pleased. I will be ordering them for my windows as well. I highly recommend this product.

Works well on any door with uneven door to wall surface. I had to use washers to raise one side. So maybe an extra plate like they provide in traditional door knobs would be helpful.

The metal is strong and sturdy, the pieces connect well. All around this is a good loop latch, it worked for what I needed them (got two) for.

We have a doggie door that prevented us using the Door lock we we’ve been using a broom handle in the track for 13 years . No more bending down anymore we are very happy with this lock!

I bought this after yet ANOTHER break in at my condo. The miscreants generally only steal stuff from the parkade but since I am directly above the parkade who knows where they might show up next time so I bought this.

I really like it. It’s easy to use, wedges well and I feel more secure from people in the hall. I don’t think this would stop someone that absolutely wanted to get in but it will definitely slow up or stop someone who is not totally committed.

I was going to buy an alarmed door stopper but read too many reviews to them going off at the wrong times.

The top is fragile. One came broke and another broke directly after. Another brand I had actually had a tension lever to tighten it under the door and that made the top not as vulnerable. With this the best advice I can give you is to position it under the knob, make sure the floor stopper is lined up straight, and tap that with your toe to get it tight under the door knob.

if the rubber on the floor is not lined up straight then when you tap it you will cause the portion under the knob to swivel side ways and break. Once you get the hang of it and get it under there right it works great and is easy peasy to set up.

I have tried to come in a door with the stopper and it won’t budge. They could really improve this by making the top part metal welded to the post and covered in rubber. Then it wouldn’t be so vulnerable to breaking during set up.

And you really don’t need those holes, a solid piece would be sturdier.

This door bar is basically useless unless you have real carpet floors (not an area rug / door mat) to stop the bar from sliding out and falling to the floor. It absolutely does NOT stop a door from opening if your floors are smooth tile / laminate.

I can’t speak for wood surfaces but I’d imagine its the same story. Another critical design flaw becomes apparent when you position the bar in the upright angle under your door handle (as instructed by the manufacturer): The 2 separate sliding metal pieces of the bar will occasionally bend at an angle that disengages the button lock, which makes disarming this device literally as difficult as penetrating the deadbolt and pushing the door open.

I bought 2 of these bars thinking I could interconnect them to make the overall door jam longer. This was in order to actually JAM the bar snuggly between the door handle and the wall 5ft away running parallel with the door.

This unfortunately did not work either because the door handle claw on the end of the bar was not designed to accommodate the added angle that was produced by the (x2) extra long bar. Missed opportunity by the manufacturer to make product twice as useful right there.

* If you need something to jam your sliding glass doors, measure & cut a 2×4 piece of wood ($5) and drop it into the slide.

We have a large window that slides to open and wanted protection beyond the lock. I was tired of putting a dowel in the track, so I purchased this. I mounted the security bar it’s even/parallel to the first muntin bar so it’s not noticeable from the street.

I liked the fact that it has to be cut to fit (easy to cut with a hack saw) — it’s not an adjustable model, so it’s a secure fit every time once you put the bar down — no wiggle room.

The first one we received the arm would not fully extend down so we had to have another one sent. We had to cut the arm to fit the door, which was expected, but it was very difficult to get the plastic end cap to fit over the cut.

Had to put it in hot water to soften it up a bit, which was fine. but it would have been nice to have that suggested in the instructions It is now installed and is fine.

The Bronze Security Bar is easy to install, Make sure you have a drill and a screw driver, making sure the bits are for metal drilling. I would also recommend glue on the joints before you do the final screw placement.

A great product, works fine and prevents both doors from budging. More over peace of mind that the door is really locked in place by visually looking at it.

I placed this on my Christmas wish list since it was advertised to be a 3/4″ square bar. I searched for a while to find something that was more durable than the smaller 5/8″ square bar. When it arrived, I was frustrated by the fact that this was falsely advertised.

the bar indeed is the smaller 5/8″ square and less durable than expected. When I contacted the seller, they said it was incorrect on Amazon and that I need to contact Amazon to have them correct it. They said they do not sell a 3/4″ square bar.

Seems like it needs to be their responsibility to correct the false advertisement with Amazon, not mine. The seller suggested I submit a refund/return request. In the end I installed these anyway. I figure better to have something rather than nothing, and for the short money it would allow me spend some time finding a more durable solution.

To add to my frustration there were no installation instructions included in the package. I’m pretty handy so I was able to figure it out, but there were included parts that made no sense to me. There was an angle bracket and round rubber caps (looks like screw covers.

No idea. Overall, I give these bars only two stars. If the description was correct, along with a correct picture, I would not be reviewing this product right now. I would not have bought the lesser 5/8″ bar.

This security bar takes the old broomstick security device and raises it 2 IQ points. Total no-brainer security bar for sliding glass doors. The vertical hinged bar swings down horizontally into the bracket on the opposite side to brace against intruders trying to slide the door open from the outside.

100% secure. It fit perfectly in my Andersen slider. 2 screws go into the door jamb to secure the hinged bar part. 2 screws go into the sliding panel part to secure the plastic bracket. There really isn’t any pressure or weight on the plastic bracket part.

The hinged bar part is 3/4 inch wide. The plastic bracket is 1-inch in width. The aluminum bar cuts easily with any cheapo hacksaw. Even a $5 mini-hacksaw will cut through it. Just brace the bar against a chair with your foot and saw away.

Really no big deal. A little rubber end cap finishes the raw edge after cutting. The longest part of installation is the measuring. The OCD side of me measured 8 times before any drilling or cutting.

You DO NOT want to screw up with your new $2000 sliding door. MEASURE MEASURE MEASURE. And then measure one last time after a dry fit ;).

As with most of my Amazon purchases, this was a bargain compared to my local home improvement stores. I bought two of these for my sliding doors after I realized how unsafe the locks on them were. Yes someone could still break the glass, but with this bar down and locked they aren’t getting the door open.

Installation is a bit in depth for your non-handy types. It requires you to cut the metal bar to fit your door, so you’ll need a hacksaw or some kind of metal cutting device. Sawzall would be overkill here but would do it.

Not sure if a Dremel would do a good job but it would probably get it done. No matter what, measure at LEAST twice and cut once- if you cut it too short you’ll waste the whole kit so be careful. My doors had a recess channel on the vertical edge that the bar receiver was to mount to.

The width of the channel was exactly the same width as the bar. Since I was cutting a few inches off the bar I cut a two inch piece and drilled holes through it, screwed it to the door, then mounted the receiver to the bar.

I think I might have sprayed it with some white paint to cover the bare metal too. But it was an easy fix fortunately since the kit didn’t accommodate for anything than a flat surface on the door. In any event these are fantastic.

I feel much safer knowing that when these bars are locked those doors aren’t opening, either for a thief coming in or my kids trying to get out by the pool when I’m not looking.

I bought two door knob jammers. They are very well made, sturdy, at a good price.

It works as advertised. This is my second time purchasing it, but this time for a friend.

I can’t help but wonder if the people writing good reviews for this product have ever put it to the test. It’s basically a telescoping tube that you wedge between the doorknob and the floor. There’s a little button on the inner tube that fits into one of the holes on the outer tube.

This is supposed to keep it at the right length, but it only takes a light kick for the button to slip out of the hole, which collapses the whole thing. A determined intruder should easily be able to produce enough force to do that.

I bought two, one for the front door and one for the back, and they both have this problem, so I don’t think I just got a defective one. It’s a bad design. I’m uploading a video to demonstrate what I’m talking about.

The sound cuts out at one point, but really all you need is to see it.

Purchased three of these for all the exterior doors in our rental home for added security three years ago. Our tenants had had a back door kicked in and we heard that these were an inexpensive way to prevent that.

Fast forward to about a month ago and we noticed muddy footprints on the outside frame of our two exterior back doors. Good news is, the thief wasn’t able to get in and the doors showed no damage other than the mud.

These things are great and did the job. As a caution, a firefighter friend did say that these make it really hard to break down a door when necessary for an emergency, but for the intended purpose they work really well!.

returning it to the store. It is long, so has to be cut with a hack saw in order for it to fit the sliding glass door properly. I do not have a hack saw, and would probably make a wrong cut in which case I would have a useless item.

I am going to Home Depot, have them cut a piece of wood to the required length, and that will work just as well. and probably be cheaper.

I have had a bar lock for 8 years and just ordered one for a lady I take care of. She loves it because she feels safe with it. My girlfriend also is going to order one. Not many people know about this product.

A little advertising would sell a lot. A very good product.

I particularly choose this one because the adjustable one does not lock well. This is a basic lock and work as it should be. You do need to have a hack saw to get it to the length to fit your door though.

I love this door lock and I use it on interior and exterior doors. I will buy more for they are fantastic.

Nice Latching mechanism, pretty secure. For installing it was harder than I thought to drill straight into the door and get level. My complaint is that the wall side receiver only has 2 screw holes and came with pretty short screws.

It should have been made with 3-4 screw holes in the wall plate and come with 3 1\2 screws to be totally pry proof.

A very un intrusive lock that did a VERY good job of securing the sliding glass door. As a first responder I have used sliding glass doors to get into peoples house to check on them, it is a HUGE liability.

This latch does not allow giggling of the door to the point that the door can be lifted out of its tracks.

Careful when drilling the door frame. Some doors have the glass projecting where you have to drill. Take exact measurements to avoid drilling the glass. Otherwise, they are great. What I mean is that some sliding doors have the glass inside the door frame more than half inch and can interfere with the drill bit when drilling the frame.

Would be better if the design was like the picture. It actually has two loops on either end of the plate. The locking shaft is only long enough to reac the top loop. It works, but not the smartest design.
