The 2 part poly paint works great, i use it on my deck, my interior, my roof/foredeck. You name it. It mixes easy, rolls on easy and makes me look like a skilled painter (which i am certainly not). My only gripe is doing business with Jamestown Distributors as they dont let you exchange paint apparently.
I accidentally ordered 2 cans of the wrong color (completely my fault) but was then told i couldnt return it, because i couldnt ship it back (even though it was shipped to me???) and i said thats alright I live nearby can i come in person for a return, exchange or credit? Also no.
I do a lot of business with a lot of distributors and have never encountered this before. Unfortunately i have stopped buying from JD since.
I needed to repaint a 52 year old Ensign, which had been awlgripped about 20 years ago. I used Interlux Perfection on the mast and boom last year, and found that it was very sensitive to temperature and humidity.
I was convinced to try Epifanes for the topsides. I used a quart of their primer in gray, which did a nice job filling in some imperfections. I say quart, but when you combine the two parts, the total is more like 5/6th.
At any rate, three finish coats later, the job looks great. My single complaint was the lack of advice available on the can or their website. I used the roll and tip method, and was advised to use their special brushing thinner – but no where did it specify HOW MUCH thinner to add, which is a key piece of information you need for a successful job.
A few calls to Epifanes in Maine, and I found someone who seemed knowledgeable. He gave me the secret number I will now reveal here: add 7% thinner by volume of the paint in your carefully measured paint bucket.
With that, the product was a dream to use, and we got many favorable comments in the boatyard prior to launching. Hope it holds up for the long term.
We used the white 2 part polyurethane for the deck, cockpit, and cabin of our 25′ sailboat We did a complete balsa core and fiberglass replacement on the cabin top, cockpit sole, and deck. After fairing we laid down System Three water based epoxy primer and sanded and cleaned it well.
We sprayed the Epifanes using a pressure pot paint gun with a 1. 2mm nozzle. Temperature was around 80 degrees. After practicing and tweaking the gun on some pieces of cardboard and plastic sheeting we ended up with the pot set at 10 psi, and the gun set at 30-35psi read on a gauge mounted right at the spray gun.
Paint was thinned 10% with Epifanes spray thinner. We laid down a light tack coat and let it flash off for 20 minutes, then laid down a medium coverage coat. Had a few runs in the cockpit but that was my fault.
Avoid trying to lay down heavy coats as it will run and sag if you do that. Note that the coverage rates on the can are true per coat so measure your square footage well. It doesn’t take long to blow through the 750ml kit.
The Epifanes paint sprayed down beautifully and quickly leveled out and merged into a smooth flat finish. It dried quickly and very hard. It has a nice shine, and with all climbing all over the boat with tools when reinstalling hardware it didn’t scratch up, but still looked great.

Gloss Rust-Oleum Varathane Crystal Clear Spar Urethane in quarts has outstanding UV and weather protection for outdoor wood projects. It is unique as an outdoor water based clear finish. This innovative formula resists scratches and adds years to the life of your exterior wood.
Outstanding UV and weather resistance. Low odor and no brush strokes. For best results apply a minimum of 4 coats.
I bought when I discovered my 15 year old can of Varathane Diamond had turned to gel. The store didn’t have interior (there used to be only one) and I though “how different can it be?”. Well. it means it when it says not for interior.
I put it on a stair railing and the results are awful. It doesn’ t flow and self level like my previous experiences with Varathane Diamond Coat. Does anyone want 9/10 of a litre of this stuff? I have no use for it.
2 stars because it does say that it’s not for interior, I wouldn’t be happy with the results even on an exterior item.
Great product when applied correctly. Nice clear, hard finish. Easy soap and water clean up. Applying multiple thin coats is best for a smooth finish and prevents seeing brush strokes. This finish dries quickly so DON’T overbrush or you will see brush strokes.
The product itself is great. I love this brand so much. I use it on woodburnings and it doesn’t change the color of the wood and is easy to apply. It will last a good while as well. There was just a rather large shortage of varnishes to choose from when I bought this – hence the 4 star.
Normally I use the indoor kind for my wood art but they were completely out of stock.
It is a durable, clear polyurethane that provides protection with classic, hand-rubbed beauty. Minwax Wipe-On Poly is applied with a cloth that avoids drips and brush marks.
The wipe on poly coat from Minwax is to me one of the best I’ve used. Refinishing handrails for our staircases was simplified using the wipe on poly. The satin finish kept the gloss and glare down and it was smooth once completely dried.
I also have to say that the packing makes it easier to use and store as well. Most of the poly finishes I’ve used in the past were in round quart cans which always seemed to waste a lot and make it messy.
I can take a rag to this product and take what I need without spilling and making a mess. I would recommend this product if you do any woodwork or refinishing.

Enduro Clear Poly Topcoat is a self crosslinking polyurethane that dries water white. Clear Poly can be used on any project where more solids (28%) and durability are desired. Recommended Accuspray HVLP atomizing sets.
Packaging was not good. I had to bend a lot of the metal around the the lid to get it to open then with some creattive use of pliers reshape it to close and seal
This is one of the very few places where you can get ready to spray black and colored poly or lacquer products. Fast shipping, prompt and friendly communication when requesting information.

Premium outdoor polyurethane coating continues to deepen its amber look over time to give wood objects a warm, classic look. Expands and contracts with changes in weather conditions.
I purchased this product and was amazed how easy it was to use. In my case, I used this product on several slats of a park bench. I had initially used a solid stain and wanted to protect the wood from moisture and rain by applying a finish.
I was a little skeptical at first since the tin stated that it was water-based. After using the product I now know why: The water base solution allows the product to go on the wood with ease. The instructions recommend that you wait a minimum of 3 hours before adding another coat.
For best results, you should apply 4 coats. After applying the fourth coat, the sheen on the wood looks beautiful and it is very durable to the touch. If you are considering a product, the Varathane Diamond Exterior Finish dries clear and does not yellow over time.
I am a paint chemist, and I have been working with all kinds of paint and coatings. It is a waterborne polyurethane product, performs close to the similar line of the solvent base product. Rust-Oleum has environment friendly feature & very easy to use.
Might as well have used white glue mixed with water,,ruined a $25,000 job,,this crap is not durable what so ever,, wish I could give this a minus 100 star rating

Great product but the listing is not clear and way over priced. These are Pint size. I didn’t catch it. the description says Pt in it, Pint is not written out. I thought I was buying 4 quarts and it turned out to be 2 quarts for the price I usually get a whole gallon.
at this price your paying $117. 20 per gallon. Then I would have to pay $25 to return it using Ebay’s return label. Don’t get tricked into buying pints at quart prices.
The product drys as stated in two hours to touch. I find the quick drying varnish not as durable as the 24 hour product. If you got 24 hrs the slow drying is the best. If not this quick drying version is fine.
It seems like Minwax has taken over the varnish market and since I can no longer get PETRI, I tried Zar Fast Drying varnish and I am happy to say that it is easy to use and produces outstanding results.
Self-leveling in outstanding. Now 20 years ashore after living on my sailboat for 25 years, I have done some varnishing and I think ZAR is very good.
Varathane Crystal Clear Spar Urethane Spray offers outstanding UV and weather protection. Use this outdoor-approved clear sealer from Rust-Oleum to add years to the life of exterior wood projects. This water-based spray is low odor and comes in a 11.
25 ounce aerosol can so you don’t have to worry about brush strokes marring your satin finish. Apply a minimum of 4 coats for best results.
Considering that bad reviews go back 5, 6, 7 years ago it’s interesting that I’m having the same problems today. Shake the can, keep at room temperature and same OLD problems. Globs come out (and my finger is not impeding the spray) and spray is inconsistent.
Keep the same speed and distance back and forth and still it pools and creates runs in places. Can’t Rust-Oleum change the spray head to the larger head which seems to provide a more consistent spray.
Or maybe it’s just the formula itself. Either way I’m probably going to have to strip my front door all the way down and start over. What a waste of time this product. Its amazing that you can do all the correct prep work and the final coat to protect your project ruins the job.
Will be returning 4 cans of this, including the partial can, for a refund in the morning. Too bad can’t give it a zero rating.
Was hoping for a nice even mist but instead it kept spitting out globs of condensed foam. The globs hardened before they had a chance to flatten out and they dried to a yellow tinge. Gave the can a good long shake prior to spraying but that didn’t help.
Of course my project got ruined and now I have to start over again. May have better luck using a foam brush with the non-spray version instead.
