Owned this now about 5 months. System has started crashing whenever gaming. Swapped to a GPU card with same results. Tried bios update. Trying 24hr support but none of the links work. There appears to not be any 24 hour support since I get there are no support during these hours and try again.
Really cannot recommend asus motherboards. Both that I have purchased have been plagued with problems and are only used 5 to 7 hours a week.

Not expensive and working fine, I didn’t ask for more. Edit of my review: I conducted more than 60 tests on my PC after receiving an alert about Northbridge on this mobo when rebooting since my boot and reboot time was increased afterwards.
I changed my review a couple of times and reset it as good because I was not a 100% sure the mobo was in fault but now that I have bought PC-Doctor Toolbox for Windows and tested all my components there is absolutely no residual doubt, this motherboard is slowly but surely letting me down.
I asked help on Asus website with support people but they were only proposing me test already conducted and delaying their answers. I asked for RMA today and if I can’t get it online I will have to give them a phone call.
All those hours spent on tests, no help from Asus, I will have to send it back at my own expenses, rebuilt my PC, buy thermal paste. I am so sorry I bought an Asus motherboard, never again! Update: I filled the RMA form last Friday and not only did I haven’t received the e-mail I was supposed to but support people are also triying to make me undestand that I will receive only recertified produt.
I just can’t believe it! Asus people have no ethics, they try by all means to escape responsabilities, answer e-mails days later, I am totally upset! Now, I will have to buy another one of those unreliable motherboards not to lose the money I put on other components and that I can not put on another model.
Anyway there is almost no AM3 boards on the market. O. K. I will pay again but believe me on my word, I will never forget what Asus did to me. I paid for brand new, I do not have to accept recertified! One last update: I told Asus support people that I would not accept a recertified motherboard as replacement but no way to make them understand that this is an unacceptable commercial practice: they insist that you will get only a used replacement.
I just hope one thing here, think of it twice before buying any Asus product! For me, that company is therefore persona non grata and I highly recommend you to buy another brand.
I was running a 4th generation ASUS motherboard and seemed to be having issues with the video so I looked for a replacement. The M5 series uses DDR3 memory instead of DDR2 and has built in megabit ethernet as well as other upgrades like USB3 ports, from the M4 series so I bought one.
The boards are physically identical so swapping in the new one was a piece of cake. I’m sure there’s any number of good used ones but this one was on offer as ‘new’ so I bought it. I am totally satisfied with the unit.
I am in the process of reprocessing my 500+ movies and TV series on the portable hard drive I take on vacation. The sound levels are way too low. I am running Handbrake on Windows 10. This is a CPU and memory intensive operation and this board plus my Phenom II x6 CPU just flies through the edit/remake.
My other intensive use is running AI models in Python. The training phase can really drag a slower CPU/memory combination. This setup works marvelously. I don’t have the kind of funds to buy a killer bleeding edge motherboard and CPU with monster GPU’s and I don’t know that they would really increase my processing speed enough to matter so I am really pleased with this ‘last generation’ hardware setup.
I would recommend this to others. It’s a good mobo overall, install was pretty easy except as noted, and it works great with my Athlon II processor and 8gb RAM. It basically allowed me to fix my broken PC for around fifty bucks.
Can’t beat that! I would buy this again if I needed another board–and with one more desktop PC in the house using the same prior mobo, I may need to! If I could change one thing, it would be to include the detailed pin assignment legend in the manual.
Also FYI: If you have Windows 10, you will likely need to reactivate it since it will think you have a new PC. In my case, the auto wizard “I had a recent significant hardware change” didn’t work but that was traced back to my old Windows 7 3-pack license.
So it required a phone call to Microsoft but then it was fixed. I had to do the same for Office and for iTunes as well–even though I was still using the exact same processor, memory, and hard drives.

Getting this mobo to work was a pain in the butt. That’s the important takeaway here. The problem with this and many other ASUS motherboards is that it refuses to recognize your graphics card and fails POST.
Don’t waste your time re-seating the card or checking power cables. The card is not the problem. The motherboard has a BIOS configuration issue. The easy fix, if your motherboard has two full PCI slots, is to install the card in the second slot.
Boot up. Let the system POST, BIOS process, etc. Shutdown. Move your card back to the original slot. System will now recognize the card and boot normally. Other than that glaring problem from the outset, the motherboard has a nice feature set and has displayed no other issues.
It was a good price/feature option for me. The BIOS interface is pretty different from what I’m used to, though, and seems a bit more limited and simplified than traditional BIOS interfaces I’ve used in the past.
Not enough to ding it a star but something you may want to know when considering this board.
I wanted a new build to replace my Skylake-X 10-core, but, like everybody else, had to sit out the Covid availability crunch. When this board was announced, and I was able to locate a 5950-X at retail, I decided to pull the trigger.
I try to stay one step behind the bleeding edge, and X570 falls into this category by now, but I never bought a board before the QVL list of memory came out before, and that tripped me up slightly. First impressions: this thing is absolutely gorgeous.
If you’re the sort of person who can find a motherboard ‘sexy’, this one ticks all the boxes. It’s heavy, well-built, large (true EATX), and shiny. There’s so much mirrored surface it actually comes with its own polishing cloth.
The back of the board has LED lighting like a street rod’s ground effect lighting. As you can expect with a top-of-the-line board I had no issues installing everything except for a couple of things I want to mention here.
I had originally intended to use 2 sets of G. Skill’s Trident Z Royal Elite 4000MHz CL14 (F4-4000C14D-16GTES). They posted fine, DOCP worked, but the board would not boot after loading DOCP. I’m sure I can make them work, and I’m going to keep them, but I hadn’t realized the problem of not being sure of your RAM while you’re checking outverifying all your other new components and finding out how much of an overclock you get.
By this time, the QVL has come out, and ASUS is not promising anything above 3200MHZ RAM, so I ordered Trident Z RGB F4-3200C14Q-32GTZRX and that works fine. The other thing that surprised me was probably my fault as well.
I put a Samsung 980 Pro PCIe 4. 0 in in the first M. 2 slot for booting and that works fine. I intended to use a Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus PCIe 4. 0 M2 behind those mirrored covers as my main drive, but I couldn’t get that drive recognized in either the M2_2 or the M2_3 slot at all.
I can’t find specific documentation for this, but I believe the M2_1 runs from the CPU and M2_2 and M2_3 come from the chipset, and if you have a PCIe 3. 0 video card like my 1080Ti, the chipset won’t be able to service the video card at PCIe3 and the drives at PCIe4.
Fortunately for me, the Crosshair Extreme comes with a DIMM2 daughter board to house additional M2 drives, and the Sabrent is perfectly happy in there. Other than those surprises everything works well.
I prefer the ASUS BIOS layout and am happy to get back to it after my last build (Gigabyte). If you build with an AIO be prepared to disable the CPU Fan Speed sensing on first boot if you connect your radiator fans to the rad fan header.
For me the best thing about this particular board is the Dynamic OC switching. I can use AMD’s Precision Boost 2 to get my single core clocks as high as possible and then when the load gets high enough (mine is set to 50 Amps), you can set the BIOS to switch to your multicore overclock.
I am not an experienced overclocker by any means but it was very easy getting my 5050X to 4. 55GHz all core at very comfortable temps. I had a lot of fun with this build. This board doesn’t disappoint.
I’ve used Asus motherboards exclusively for 25 years and they have not ever let me down. In fact, my Crosshair 1 is still running strong after 14 years of nearly 24/7 use. I hope I never see the day I recommend a motherboard that is not Asus made.
This board has everything I needed and a whole lot more. The specs are great. I wish I had more modern and diverse spare parts to test different configurations. Will have to wait for deals after Gen5 I suppose.
I plan on this board lasting a while and potentially taking some upgrades down the road. I hope I am not disappointed when that happens. I am worried it may take a backseat to longevity upgrades if sales were dismal.

This Motherboard has very nice specifications in the way the processor works. The only drawback is that the video card slot is only a pcie x16 2. 0. A higher 3. 0 rating would have been nicer but I read the specs and knew what I was getting before hand.
This is a very nice replacement board for the old phenom II era machines and processors. It fit my need exactly because of that. Someone over at ASUS did good at anticipating.
I built a rig using this board 12/2015 and it has run flawlessly the whole time using it on a daily basis. This unit may not have all the bell and whistles of the current ones but older does not mean it does not have it’s uses.
6/2015 I built a pretty high end system from the “other cpu guy” that in my mind was the only way to go. Boy was I wrong. Do not forget about the question and answers right to the rating of the board that could be helpful on your decision.
I have used Asus motherboard for many years because they are dependable. The ASUS M5A97 lacks bells and whistles that are found on more expensive motherboards but it is a great value. Not everyone needs the premium options.
When I build a machine for someone I want to set it up for them knowing I will not have to worry about coming back to fix faulty hardware.
I bought this board for the main selling points of being a creator motherboard. Starting with the positives, the elegant design of the board along with some of the innovative features make it a joy to look at and build with.
Thats pretty much where the positives end. Asus seems to have repurposed their standard ROG BIOS with ProArt branding while using their Control Center Express software to handle USB Read/Write control feature instead of baking it into the BIOS.
Even after updates, the BIOS refuses to remember USB power off in soft state settings, as well. Control Center Express is a whole issue in of itself, as it is an enterprise level software suit with convoluted and complicated steps to add your system to it.
I still, after months of searching and googling and pouring through forums, have not gotten it working to control the USB read/write settings on the board. At the very least, Asus should have added those settings to the ProArt software to make it more friendly for consumer-level creators.
Finally, while the hardware here is pretty cutting edge, its almost too cutting edge, as Windows doesnt even detect the existence of the WiFi adapter at first install. With Ethernet not being practical due to my router being stuck in my roommates room thanks to the way our apartment is wired, I had to install EndeavourOS Linux on a second drive to get online via Wifi, download the drivers, copy them onto the windows drive, then boot into windows and install, all just to get wifi working in Windows.
A layman consumer, or even a moderately knowledgeable creator who has only ever used Windows would not know to do this. Pouring through the User Manual and even Asus website for this board will not get you a model for the wifi adapter.
For that, I had to dig into the Terminal on Linux. I had emailed Asus support asking for the model of the wifi adapter. After a week, they escalated it to another level. That escalation department then gave me the model of the ETHERNET controller, not the wifi adapter, despite me being explicitly clear in multiple emails of what I wanted.
When I corrected them on this, they escalated it again and I waited yet another week before finally getting an email with the model of the wifi adapter. Its an Intel AX210 wifi 6E adapter, in case anyone needs to find the drivers.
All in all, for almost $500 this board is nowhere near the value of its price point. Bugs, obstacles, and disappointments abound here. Its not a terrible board, but now Im well beyond the return date and stuck with it, unable to utilize half of the features I bought it for due to unstable or overly complicated software.
The functionality I CAN actually use was already there on the Strix x570-E I upgraded from, so Ive paid almost $200 more for some sleek looks and literally not much else more.
My requirements list included Thunderbolt, 10GbE, 570, and a fanless chipset and this met all of those criteria. Theres a similar gigabyte board that has potential but the lack of 10GbE made it a non-starter for me.
The chipset seems to run hotter than if it had an active cooling solution but I dont think this is an issue. I saw it as high as 90c once but that was before I had my case fans tuned in. The support for various fans, lights, pumps, and doodads is great.
I dont see any reason why you couldnt do anything you want with this board. I paired mine with a 5900x with a gargantuan cooler tower to minimize noise. I only mention it because other artists may do the same.
This cooler fit fine in the space provided but it does cover up one of the chassis fan headers. I dont know if this is atypical placement for a fan header but it was a little too close to the cpu in my opinion and would likely be covered by many other coolers.
The 10g Ethernet jack onboard does NOT function until an OS and driver are loaded. The 2. 5g, however, does. The 2. 5g has an Intel chipset and a driver on the board. This stumped me for a while. Also, I cant manage to get my 3600Mhz RAM to run higher than 2666 even after turning on DOCP.
I have chips in A2 and B2 as proscribed by the manual. Im sure its something Im doing wrong. I dont think you can go wrong with this board!.
I per-ordered this board when it came out. It came to me dead and had to be returned. They were unable to send me anew one due to stock so I got a refund. I then purchased this again recently and again received a dead board.
Only reason I even gave it 3 eggs was because Newegg was awesome through the process of everything. NO ISSUES with NEWEGG AT ALL. Asus though is making garbage. I ended up buying an MSI board instead.

In conclusion; *** BIG TIME ISSUE with BIOS updates! so be aware of this problem. When I updated the bios the board would not boot past the AMI logo. It was hitting the Memory Check and stopping. I was COMPLETELY freaked out because I just flashed my bios and thought it was a bad flash.
Well a day later I figured out it was the memory losing the settings in bios, but the issue is the board would not even detect the memory with a bios reset. So if this happens to you, on the motherboard below the power button is a tiny button for memory compatibility mode.
After turning on the power to the board press that button and your bios should load!! For those of you on the fence as to whether you should upgrade? My system seemed top notch for the things that I do, but I really wanted to try out RYZEN to see if they can actually get it together.
The funny thing about this whole new build, is that I have a primo MSI Aorus 1080TI and since I come from an old ASUS X79 platform with every bell and whistles, with A I7 3820 Extreme 6 core that I bought used for the same price as the AMD 2700 a year ago.
This new system is probably about 25% faster overall and I was able to achieve some high O/C benchmarking results. But was it worth spending all this money, for the performance? I would say yes, Because I gained a 25% improvement overall.
There is a small bonus with this platform that is easily overlooked and until you actually try it, you maybe skeptical. That is the Store MI technology, it really works fantastic and quite honestly for the price of FREE AMD really put another shot over Intel’s bow! But here is something important to know, if you haven’t bought this yet.
Got to AMD’s site and download the FREE version of Store MI, do not go to Enmotus and buy the $19. 99 version it is less powerful for $$. If you are a X370 owner and do not want to update motherboard yet, I wholeheartedly recommend the Enmotus’ FuzeDrive software but there is one issue with it that is being fixed as we speak.
It does not have a good un-installer!! So, whatever version you install (AMD or Enmotus) you need to stay with it because they will cancel out the registration of each other’s software and will cause great issues getting it working again.
I will also say this, if you use either of these software, YOU MUST be able to make reliable backups of that information. Just incase something goofy ever happens! I will say this when you use memory, a fast sata SSD, and an SSHD hard drive, this Store MI or FuzeDrive technology is no gimmick and gives me read speeds faster than my nVme drive (non-raided), yes, it is true! (and due to fast system memory) My final words to ASUS, you guys need to start backing up the hype.
I watched your Newegg video about overclocking on this board. My experience tells me it was a very controlled situation, because there is no reason that my chip should not have been able to auto overclock to 3.
8 to 4. 0GHz but the auto-tune could barely get it to 3. 6GHZ over a 3. 4 base clock C’mon!a 9% overclock??? when I can easily do a 25% Do I recommend this product? Yes, but with a major deduction in eggs, I do but only because I was able to overcome the issues by MANUALLY by making changes to the settings to get my system stable.
If you are a newb, I suggest looking at an easier motherboard, because it is complicated. If I had it to do all over again, I might have waited until the ASROCK Taiichi came out and bought that like I was originally planning on doing? Hopefully ASUS will fix these issues soon, but to the other reviewers that just do not put the effort into a good review, please do all of us a favor and do not just keep making 5 egg reviews, because this board has issues.
I may just go to an Asrock TAICHI! When RYZEN2 comes out to see how far Asrock has come…So Asus take heed, you are on notice and losing ground to your competition because of your poor software execution, overhyping of products, Signing onto GPP and terrible RMA support.
BTW, I no longer will buy any Logitech product because of their lack of customer support! And I will do that with any product that does not support their products after the fact and I am starting to wonder about ASUS, because they do not update their Motherboard drivers and software for long enough of a time after purchase, after all isn’t that why we pay a premium for these motherboards! I have been left high and dry on my older platforms with Window 10 support and I have had nothing but issues with Win 10 on the older platforms.
Eventually, we all want to upgrade, but I get peeved when I am forced to due to lack of software or driver support for an older platform! I am sure this is not an accident on ASUS’s pat. I get the whole cost-effective thing on how long you should support a platform, but it is pretty dang important when a new windows comes out!!.
Pros: Good board layout with really good aesthetics with plenty of fan/RGB headers. Overkill VRM for overclocking. Asus Aura by far the best of all MB OEM RGB control solutions. Tons of USB input support for those that love their peripherals.
I would say almost all of x470’s options have been unlocked for the user in this boards BIOS. Should make for a great overclocker/tweaker. Cons: Biggest con by far is the random hard shutdowns I’ve had since I’ve built this system.
Updated BIOS to 0804, swapped with other known working hardware, and uninstalled every single app that may or may not try and read system temperatures to no avail. I’m currently in the process of RMA’ing the board after finally getting through ASUS’s horrible support (i highly recommend ASUS if you love filling out the same system build report 4 different times).
I don’t have much faith that RMA’ing the board is going to resolve the issue as its been known since the 04/2018 and they have yet to fix it through 4 BIOS updates. All of ASUS’s software has been buggy for me.
AI Suite keeps reverting to defaults and keeps fighting for control of the fan’s (TT Riing+’s). Live Update keeps trying to update the LAN driver after already updating it. Sonic fights with windows over what device is default.
Minor con is the placement of the chipset heatsink/RGB lighting and the M. 2 slots. I have a sapphire vega 64, and at 2. 5 slots thick 300mm long, it covers the entire heatsink. Also, the 1st M. 2 slot is right above where the GPU dumps hot air.
Even with the included heatsink, i could watch SSD temps rise while gaming. ASUS does a better job with ‘hiding’ it behind the PCI slot (MSI puts it right behind the GPU heatsink) but it still picks up heat.
I put mine in the second (bottom) M. 2 slot and its free of hot air and thankfully not restricted in speed like some other boards.
If you’re having problems getting advertised RAMs speeds (or C5 qcode boot issue with RAM timings), do this until Asus fixes their BIOS firmware (2x 8GB G-Skill Trident-Z 3200MHz CL14). I took this from Reddit: First, I loaded the optimized defaults – Disabled Core Performance Boost and set PBO from “Auto” to “Disabled” – Overclocking mode to D.
O. C. P (XMP equivalent) – Dram settings –> Gear Down Mode from “Auto” to “Disabled” (Extreme tweaker -> Digi+ something settings -> scroll down) – Set the DRAM VBoot Voltage to 1. 35V (if you leave it on auto, it will always be set to 1.
2V and the System will either fail to post or boot with 2111MHz DRAM frequency) NOTE: The setting only says “Auto” without the drop-down option to enter a manual value. Just select “Dram VBoot Voltage”, type 1.
35 and press enter. You will find the setting under extreme tweaker -> External Digi+ Settings. – Set the FCLK frequency to 1600Mhz manually (half your RAM Speed, I use 3200MHz RAM ) – Save this to a profile in BIOS.

Brought this to go with my white case and to replace the old B450. Not too bad so far. Seems stable and more importantly my USB ports work ! The top right ATX and EATX power plugs are a bit tight and if you are using an AIO , make sure you disable the error on the BIOS or it will stop on POST.
Also it is Ryzen 5000 Series ready out of the box. However im using my old 3700X for the time being and I know I can drop a 5000 series when it becomes more widely available. Solid white / silver board for a small premium over the normal B550-F Black.
Recently had my gigabyte board die on me so was forced to replace my board (really annoyed because I had saved the money to get a 5600 and now can’t afford it because it got spent on the board) It supported my 1600x despite not being supposed to (oversight on my behalf for not knowing it shouldn’t) Board looks great and works great.
Excellent board overall. ** Had a minor hiccup because I am using an old Ethernet CAT cable, my solution was to install a WiFi card so I could install Windows, Asus & AMD drivers. Long story short, it worked beautifully.
Now it’s fully functional, no problems so far. **.

This is a very minimal motherboard compared to others that are around the same price. I was actually surprised at how lacking this was, because I did not read the description thoroughly, and thus ended up with something that has barely met my requirements for a PC I am replacing parts in.
I’ve decided to keep it for another use, but I wish I had known it was so bare-bones before I bought it. For someone on a tight budget who needs a motherboard replacement ASAP, this will do okay, but if you can, scrape up a few more dollars and get a better one.
Others have much more, and can be about $10 more than what this costs.
Stater board. Worked well for us. With a used Ryzen 3 3200G used the on board graphics. Then with a 1050 Ti then with a 1660 Ti. Started with 16gb 2400 ram then got 16 gb 3200. Great beginnings, built with my 11 yo.
This a quality motherboard. The price point comes in because of the minimalist options, which is what I wanted. It doesn’t leave unused slots for anything. 32GB of ram is more than plenty for me, I’m not using multiple graphics cards, I’ll never need an internal sound card (an external audio interface serves me better).

Let me prefix this with the fact that I’m a not-so-terribly-old-but-older-than-most-of-you EE and have put together a few systems in my time. Now then: 1. I set the two 1tb drives in m. 2 slots in Raid 1 (with amd raid drivers that you need to download).
2. loaded win10. Win10 runs but will not Restart (hangs with the little circly wait thing) — even with fastboot disabled. From cold start it boots about 50% of the time. Cinebench pegs temps to >75degrees instantly (within 2 secs), UNLESS dragon center is loaded — then, even at “Extreme Performance”, temperatures are fine-ish.
No-one at MSI can explain that one. 3. Motherboard beeps overtemperature at 61C (dragon center and the led both indicated about 61 when the incessant beep begins). Obviously I turn off cinebench right away, but something is weird.
No-one at MSI can explain that. 4. I gave up on raid (thinking that it was its initialization that was) keeping win10 from booting). Switched the two m. 2’s to AHCI. After all, what good is a raid if you can’t boot? 5.
Now I can’t even install windows — hard hang about 5 min into install (mouse and keyboard completely dead). Tried about 10 times. On both drives. I have now memorized the 25-digit win10 product key — not something I need at my stage of life.
I tried two power supplies, two graphics cards and there’s NOTHING ELSE in the system: processor, memory, 2 m. 2’s and a cheap, simple graphics card. I’m returning the motherboard. I am at a loss of whether I should be the same thing, hoping that it was a bad motherboard, or go with another manufacturer.
I need this computer for work, I can’t afford another week of screwing around with it. All through this I *HAVE BEEN CONTACTING* MSI’s tech support. They are good at initial response, but both threads got dropped after the first suggestion didn’t work.

This review is for the MSI Review Rebate Program. I was debating to wait for B650 motherboard, but build needs pushed me to pull the trigger on MSI X670-P motherboard. I really wanted a motherboard to pair with Ryzen 7 7700x CPU with great cooling solution and some future upgradability.
This board did not disappoint. PLENTY of fan headers, very intuitive layout and great build quality. Time will tell about the reliability of it, but I am happy about the purchase and would buy it again in a heartbeat.
In this era of overpriced motherboards I was surprised at how feature-rich this board is at a $120 price with the CPU bundle discount. The cooling solution is robust, including chunky VRM and chipset heatsinks and an M.
2 heatsink for the #1 slot. The reinforced GPU slot and front panel connector adapter are nice touches. 8+4 pin CPU power seems excessive for a B series chipset since the 8 pin by itself can power a 12700k just fine, but I guess it’s a nice touch for anyone who wants to stick a $500 CPU in a $120 mobo.

Bought this board and paired it with an Amd ryzen 5 7600x and 32gb of Kingston Fury DDR5 ram. I chose this one due to its quantity of M. 2 slots over the competition and the inbuilt bluetooth adaptor.
So far the only draw back is the compatibility of ram in expo as my system keeps failing to boot when the ram is set at 5200mhz, giving a cpu and dram light on the easy debug led. Dialing this back to 4800mhz with no expo profile seems to have resolved the issue in the short term but my hope is that a software patch for the bios will be released in due time to allow ram to reach its full potential.

Asus ROG Crosshair X670E Hero This motherboard is for thee enthusiast overclocker. It is also one of the nicest motherboards I have ever owned but just lacks the 5 or 10g lan which can be found in other similar priced boards.
Its hosts a wealth of features which would take too long to make note of. All I can say, if you’re looking at this motherboard, it’s a beauty and you will not be disappointed when you pull it out of the box, just do your research on it before you buy.
It worked straight out of the box with windows 10 as I feel windows 11 is just not quite ready yet but that your own preference. Prices have gone up over the last few years and it’s something we have to get used to.
I usually keep a motherboard for 4 to 5 years and I found myself buying AMD again after their longevity for the Ryzen AM5 processors. Also Overclockers Uk was very speedy in getting it to me. 10/10 for their service.
I chose the X670E GENE because the features it brought (see below) turned out to be the perfect board for me. I also wanted to finally switch from Intel to AMD after more than 6 years. So far I’m quite happy with the board, thanks to the angled connectors I had no problems installing the board, let alone connecting it.
The board also offers all the features that may play a certain role in the future (e. g. PCI 5. 0). Since I’ve been an ASUS customer for many years, I wasn’t disappointed, as always, the board is definitely very expensive for this price, but so far it serves its purpose and does an excellent job! I am currently very satisfied with the ASUS products!.
Very nice motherboard. Solidly built and easy to install. Includes many USB ports and M. 2 slots. A lot of options available for tweaking in the BIOS, and easy recovery with an external clear CMOS button.
I had some initial issues with EXPO RAM profiles, but a BIOS update fixed the stability.
This OEM part is indeed somehow better on thermals than the retail box version. Please be aware that this processor can only safely withstand temperatures around 62C,way lower than the Intel competitors.
This means that if you intend to OC it(and to catch up to similarly priced Intel processors you will need a 10-15% OC),you will absolutely need to buy an aftermarket heatsink or water cooler. Runs at 55C on install on stock cooler compared to 57-60C for the retail version in the shop.
After installing Win7 and doing a Windows 7 Assessment Test it warned me that my CPU was over 75C,and that was like a 2-3 minutes test. Could not run Prime95 over 2 minutes without going over 80C and cores failing with the stock cooler and Cool and Quiet feature disabled in the BIOS.
Even after using some AS5 grease it was still hot. I had it up to 83C in two and a half minutes of Prime95 before 3 cores shut down. The turbo-core function is ridiculously high on power and the fan noise is going up and down while you work.
I had to disable turbo-core function all together for my sanity. I had tested myself this FX-8150 overclocked @4. 6 Ghz+ against a Core i5-2500k overclocked @4. 8+Ghz running a DUAL/TRI SLI 580s configuration and the Intel 2500k was always capable of 50-100% more fps in some major games.
On the AMD system there was no absolutely no performance difference at all between the GTX 580 Dual-SLI and GTX 580 Tri-SLI running the FEAR3 game benchmark. Absolutely no real performance benefit by adding a third GPU on a Crosshair V or a Gigabyte 990FXA-UD7 motherboard was seen, and both performed rather poorly, below 30 FPS with 16X AF in 2560 resolution.
If you are running dual-GPUs,such as a 2-way SLI system,performance again will be very dependent on the game itself,but also the resolution if higher than 1600. There are several games that show some major performances gaps between the AMD and Intel CPUs,even with 2-way SLI,such as ARMA 2,ROME 2,Crysis Warhead,Crysis 3 and Civilization V.
On the other hand there are games that do not,games like DiRT 3, Dragon Age 2,Metro 2033 both. Please keep in mind that internal temperatures and motherboard socket temps are not the same thing. The AM3+ socket is farther away from the heatsink and it will be 10-20 degrees hotter than the actual AMD processor.
Core temp usually finds the motherboard sensor. AMD Overdrive is a reliable program that will only see the internal sensor,chances are that you would see that 10-20 degree difference with the Core temp program.
With that in mind, AMD states the max Cpu safe temp as 62C for this model,meaning the internal temperature,so the motherboard sensor could see up to 80-82C,depending on how much heat is trapped under the board.
A well ventilated spacious case is a must for this CPU,also some good water cooling would fit it very well. The Passmark score is indeed very good in Windows X64 OS with added 8GB RAM in the 1800 range,also the rendering,archiving and multitasking performance is very good compared to the i3/i5 models.
Please bare in mind that the very rare FX-8120 95W Zambezi has much better thermals,hence it is a more reliable processor in the long run. Also the newer cousin FX-8320 it is 5-10% faster for a similar price now.
Comparing all these facts together I will give it a score of 70 out of 100.
I bought FX 8120 to upgrade from Intel Q9550 and then I started to read reviews online. I almost cancelled the purchase! I am really glad that I did not. I received the FX 8120 with Asus EVO motherboard and I tested it straight away without any overclock.
The difference was visible straight away. After clocking the CPU to 4GHz (just by adjusting the multiplier to 20) I was shocked how good this processor is. It handles ALL new games in HIGH settings without any problem – constant 60FPS+.
Most of the games get even much more FPS. Also I have just Radeon HD7950 so it is amazing results. Games which I am playing in High settings: GTA V, Quantum Break, CoD black ops 3, Crysis 3, FarCry 4, Battlefield HardLine, Rise of Tomb Raider, Doom 4, Mafia 3.
The list is huge so DO NOT BELIEVE THAT stupid reviews saying that bulldozer is faildozer because it is absolutely NOT true if you use it for gaming. Also this “old” CPU supports all the new instructions when most of the Intel processor from the same age does NOT support even half of those instructions.
Please take in mind that when Quantum Break was released it was unplayable on the CPUs not supporting SSE 4. 2 and that’s why I had to upgrade to this FX 8120. I am totally happy that I did and I am also happy that I did not choose the I5 instead because it would not support the newest instructions needed for games and also it would be on the some old socket which I would not be able to upgrade at all.
Also I would have to get some outdated motherboard for the I5s like 2500, 3470 or 3550. FX 8120 is very well priced right now so GRAB it and have a fun!!!.
Hey I’m a 3d graphic designer an I use the bulldozer 8120 everyday. It takes on those big tasks of rendering shadows an mental rays. I had no problems with the cpu at all. I was really scared after reading reviews but tbh it’s the same as reading a game review you really don’t know if you’ll like it until you try.
So that’s what I did it’s about my 3rd month of using the cpu which seems pretty fair as most people write negative feedback in 1 month. This is the funniest thing on my build. My PSU is only 250watt on 2 12v rails.
I thought this would be an issue but I tagged the 8120 with a beautiful good cheap Mobo called the M5A97 which I also bought here at Newegg. com. It an EPU / TPU mobo so couldn’t go wrong. Equiped with an ATI Sapphire 5770 and 5gb of Ram from HP.
Sadly I cannot run the cpu an an overclocking rate I havin’t bothered trying I’m running the CPU at 2800 Tcore Disabled. All fanspeeds are high. I balance my PC to be energy efficient at the right times.
It’s been tested during gaming I’ve ran on ultra Borderlands 2, Assasins Creed 3 and 2 , Global Agenda , Sleeping Dogs. All at the same time without a stutter or power strain. There was no noise the Heat Sync that came with the CPU I’m happy with it it stays at around 30-40c.
40 being when I ran everything lol it’s normally 29 but anyways. I could go on about how my rig is but there is 1 thing for sure I love this CPU and as I’m going to be making lots of animations in 3ds and blender for UDK I’m happy to say that when I release my underground game I hope I can place the Logo ” Created using AMD” When I hit the 6 month mark I’ll come back with a video 😉 BUY IT !.

The board had a couple hitches when I first tried to fire it up, but it worked fine after I reset the power. Not sure why this happened. I’ve been using this board for a couple weeks now and I have not had any issues.
I’ve been able to manually ramp up the memory speeds without any issues. The BIOS version that came on this board supports newer processors like the 5800x3d and the 5700x out of the box. I didn’t have to go through the hassle of flashing the BIOS to run it with the 5700x I had bought.
Not like that would have mattered anyway because this board is supposed to have the USB BIOS Flashback feature that allows the user to Flash the BIOS without a CPU, but I didn’t try using that feature.
This might come in handy in case AMD decides to release a few more AM4 processors. which is rumored to happen. The VRM cooling on this board is supposed to be good. So you should be able to push a 5950x and not worry about frying the board.
The only complaint I have is this board comes with a cheaper and older version of the Realtek Audio Codec. It’s not much better than what came with my old Z77 Sabertooth board. I’m running this board in an older Cooler Master CM690 case.
With a Fuma CPU cooler, the 5700x stays ice cold and I’ve never seen it hit 60c while under load. Other specs Ryzen 7 5700x Asus Strix GTX 1080 32gb of DDR4-3600 RAM Corsair CX750m Power supply Gigabyte 1tb PCIe 4.
For context, I’m just getting into building computers. I wanted to make a “powered by AMD” build and this was definitely a good choice for a board. Headers were easy to locate and plug into. Nice subdued look with a switch to turn off rgb of motherboard if desired, which lead to a cleaner look overall.
Built in Wi-Fi definitely a plus. And it has an integrated i/o shield! Another board I tried using for a different build does NOT have that attached, and lining up a separate i/o shield is a pain in the keister! For a pro, that might not be a challenge, but for a less experienced builder having the io shield already attached is a game changer.
If you’re looking for an am4 board that works solid with useful capabilities yet without random gimmicks, I would recommend this one in a heartbeat. Only con I can think of is that I had to update bios to take the Ryzen 5000 series I selected- a 5900x for those who are curious.
To be honest it wasn’t that difficult to do, and not even close to knocking any stars off my rating.
Ever since I purchased this motherboard around 5-6 months ago, I have had some audio issues. 1. Mic input has loud static. I have tried with multiple mics (including new ones), I have tried the front and back port, and I have tried unplugging and plugging the audio pin back in, the static does not go away.
I am able to get rid of this static using RTX Voice but it is very annoying having to use it with third party applications. 2. The audio and mic ports/jacks are also messed up. I need to twist the cables in a certain position for the motherboard to detect the mic/headphones.
Again, I have tried multiple other mics and headphones. I have also tried unplugging and replugging the pins back into the motherboard but no luck. I wouldn’t get this motherboard or from this brand again.
