20 Best Washing Machine For Hard Water (2023 Updated)

We owned a Maytag Bravos XL for many years which I LOVED – it finally quit working after I let a neighbor use it because her machine quit mid cycle while washing a heavy blanket and she needed to finish a spin cycle.

Unfortunately for me, her heavy blanket subsequently ruined my Bravos XL. I purchase this Maytag as a replacement b/c it was cheaper but still Maytag. That was a bad idea. This unit is NOISY. It makes a loud clicking noise when analyzing the load size/weight when you first start it, it makes another loud click when it unlocks at the end of the cycle, and it’s even loud when the water is dispensing somehow.

It’s noisy. But that’s not really the main reason I gave this a 1 star review. The Machine DOES NOT CLEAN ANYTHING! Our clothes come out with random spots on certain shirts that have to be rewashed. Stains do NOT come out at all without pretreating them.

and in my previous Maytag this was not an issue. Even our white towels are NO LONGER WHITE. Literally, any little stain just stays on the towels. We have used white towels for 20 years without this issue and using 3 other machines, but this machine is truly crap.

Our clothes and towels do smell clean, but they don’t LOOK clean. Our sheets and towels are dingy. this is my final straw and the reason I am buying a new washing machine. It’s embarrassing how they just keep getting worse.

I read someone else’s review stating that the hot/cold function does not work well and I can concur with that also. I thought maybe it was just our connections because we bought this when we moved into a new house, but apparently it’s just another fault with this machine.

I do recommend the Maytag Bravos XL if you are a hardcore Maytag fan, but NOT this particular unit!.

We have named our washer The Sloth. Big, slow and unimpressive. Don’t let that great big tub fool you into thinking it can handle large loads. You can fill it up with clothes but they won’t get clean.

The water level won’t rise above about 40% of the tub no matter what setting you use. The clothes on top will go through the entire wash cycle never getting wet, or clean. The “agitator”, doesn’t. The water barely moves.

We have to put the machine on Power Wash with Deep cycle and load it light to get all the clothes clean. This machine uses half the water of old style machines and can only clean half a load. We have to run two loads to accomplish what our machine could do in a single load.

There’s efficiency for you. Unfortunately this appears to be the common mode of operation for all new washers. They call them high efficiency, but they aren’t. If I thought I could find another washer without these issues I would return The Sloth to Best Buy as an overmarketed, poorly engineered excuse of a washer.

It probably meets government regulations, but it fails to perform its intended function.

I bought this washer April 2021. There are enough issues and things I don’t like about this machine, that I’ll be replacing it soon. The spin cycles leave our clothes much wetter than our previous machine even on the high speed.

When the spin cycle begins, the tub wobbles which makes us concerned, but it doesn’t move around on the floor, and improves once it gets going. We’ve investigated the machine including performing the self-calibrating cycle.

It cleans fine, but perhaps that’s the detergent. There are some chimes you can remove, and some you CANNOT. We prefer NO chimes/alarms. I made the mistake of buying Stackables (but didn’t stack them) and every time we lean over them to reach some upper cabinets, we accidently turn off the washer mid-cycle and it won’t pick up where it left off.

Lastly, the machine has a CLEAN THE WASHER cycle that appears every 40 cycles. This feature takes almost 4 HOURS to complete using hot water and high agitation. Your warranty will probably be void if you don’t do this.

Then, my fault for choosing the 4. 5 cubic size over a 5 cubic size – my King sheet set (high quality sheets) seems to be too large of a load, so I find myself washing the 4 King pillowcases in a second load.

If I could give this washer zero stars, I would. It arrives. It is correctly installed. No matter what cycle I set it on, it only uses HOT water. Warm/Cold setting? It runs HOT/HOT. Cold/Cold setting? It runs HOT/HOT.

I was about to call to set up an appointment to get this remedied when the washer goes into its spin cycle. Whatever holds the tub in place busts and the tub then starts free-slamming around inside the washer box.

I am NOT making this up! Four days after its installed. FOUR DAYS! and it is broken. With the 15 day return policy I just told Best Buy to come get the cursed thing OUT of my house. Mind you, I bought this washer to replace another Samsung that I had purchased just 3 years before.

THAT washer broke down and since it was under extended warranty, I called to get it fixed. Three months later (that’s three months WITHOUT a WASHER!) after replacing nearly all the parts inside the silly thing (more money was spent on parts and labor than I paid for the thing to begin with! Go figure!) the insurance company decides it is not repairable and tells me I can just apply the original purchase price towards a brand new replacement washer.

So this means I had two Samsung front load machines turn out to be JUNK. Samsung is making garbage washing machines. Do NOT buy a Samsung washer. My experiences have taught me that they are extremely poor quality.

This is NOT Best Buy’s fault, but if they read these reviews, I heartily suggest you drop the Samsung line. You should start offering Speed Queen instead. They make a top notch line of washers, both top and front loaders.

Ended up replacing with a GE – 4. 8 Cu. Ft. High-Efficiency Front Load Washer with UltraFresh Vent System – White on white, pretty sure the model number is GFW650SSNWW. Could not be happier with it and I’ve been using it hard for the last 5 months.

My last Samsung washing machine lasted almost 12 years so I thought going with Samsung for a replacement was a no-brainer. Sadly I was mistaken and will never purchase a Samsung product again. The machine cleans the clothing fine, but it shakes so violently during the spin cycle that anything on top of the machine falls off, and the spin cycle is extremely loud.

Samsung has sent three technicians from two companies to investigate why the machine is doing this. Technician #1 said there was no error code, so therefore no problem, but he agreed my machine was shaking worse than he’d seen.

Technician #2 wanted to replace the shock absorbers, but said I was out of warranty so it would cost nearly $500 (I’m not out of warranty, Samsung opened the repair ticket incorrectly). Technician #3 acknowledged that I was under warranty but saw no problem with my machine.

Interesting that a problem is discovered when it’s believed I’m paying out of pocket. Samsung’s answer is “don’t put anything on top of your washing machine. ” Needless to say, I hate this machine and Samsung’s customer service is awful.

Bought this washer in October 2018, and worked great for about 3 years, if it was still working I’d have given it a 5 star rating, but it’s not working properly now and for the price you’d expect it to be working without problems for a lot longer.

I bought this machine as it’s high efficiency, good capacity, right size for our house and I hoped would last for a long time without needing repairs or replacement. Now there’s a problem with the “agitator” function while washing.

Normally the tub moves about 1/4 turn in a fashion similar to the old style agitators during the wash agitation. Now it makes a loud ticking noise and only moves about 1/20th of a turn or less each agitation.

Of course this start to happens on a Friday night outside of their regular business hours, so there is no way to determine if this is a possibly warranty item, a common problem or if I have to foot the bill for any and all repairs.

I bought this as the old washer, a 15 year old traditional top load agitator machine (that never had any breakdowns or issues) wasn’t working as well, probably worn out after 15yrs and couldn’t fit a comforter to wash.

So I figured it was time to buy a new and improved machine. Needless to say, I’m not happy that I may well have to spend several hundred dollars for a repair on a relatively new expensive machine. Sometimes new and improved isn’t.

I first bought the Maytag commercial top loading washer three years ago and was not satisfied with how clean the clothes were. Anything on top of the load stayed on top and often did not get wet. After searching the Internet for solutions and trouble shooting, I learned I was not overloading the machine and others were having the same problem.

As suggested, I started pouring 2 gallons of water on the dry clothes to trick the machine into adding more water. The clothes got cleaner, but sleeping bags and quilts had to be turned over and washed a second time.

Still unhappy with the cleaning of the clothes I purchased a new Maytag commercial top loading washer with an agitator 6 months ago. The agitator fins are above the clothes and do not help. As with the first machine I get the best results if I add two gallons of water to the dry clothes, use only the “power wash” setting (the other 8 options are useless), and leave deep fill set on high.

My 1970 Maytag lasted 45 years, got the clothes clean, and was easy to use. There was no need to run back and forth to the bathroom for two gallons of water, no need to turn large items over to wash a second time, and took about 30 minutes per load instead of an hour and 20 minutes the new ones take.

The old ones obviously saved energy in shorter cycles and one time washes. They saved water because any water not absorbed by the dry clothes drains out of the new machine immediately and does not stay to help clean the clothes.

This machine never did perform well. It is now gone after 4 and a half years. During that time we repaired it to the tune of $279. 00. Then the suspension mechanism broke. We put up with the noise and the machine walking around until the computer finally died.

Thought we were buying quality but I guess Maytag is a name of old. We didn’t spend the extra $200 for extended warranty, didn’t think it would be necessary. Just try and get Maytag Corp. to assist. Got nowhere.

Very little water, even in ‘deep water’ mode. Hence the clothes never really got clean. Really cant wash properly without water. Could go on and on about it’s substandard performance. Just take my word, DO NOT BUY!.

I have owned two of this model, and this review is mixed because of that. Up to this point, I had always owned and been happy with Kenmore washers and dryers over the past nearly 45 years. Feeling like Sears was not quite what it used to be, I researched and decided on this Whirlpool Model.

I wanted an HE washer, but did not have the space for a front loader which was fine because I was apprehensive about mold and didn’t want to have to worry about it. My first impression was that this machine was a beast.

My mother is bedridden which produced a lot of laundry and a “messy Marvin” husband does his fair share as well. The washer not only cleaned everything wonderfully, but it ran like a champ day in and day out through many loads a week.

for about a couple of years until the control panel went out. This was a bit of an inconvenience, but since I had purchased an extended warranty, we got another washer after it was determined it would be too costly to repair.

Replacing it with the same model is where I went wrong. The second machine has not worked as well as the first from the get-go. It has had a personality all its own when it comes to spinnig the water out completely and so, many times I end of running a second “Drain & Spin” cycle so as to not overwork the dryer which is as waste of electricity and wear and tear on the washer.

We have had two repair people out because it has gone berzerk an danced across the laundry room floor out of the blue with a load of clothes that was not overfilled and was the same laundry that every other week goes through without a hitch.

That repairman tried to blame it on the type of laundry I was doing. The original washer NEVER had any problem of that type at all. The repairman had made up his mind and that was it. I should get a commercial washer he said.

The second time it decided to dance a jig, I was running a cleaning cycle and it was completely empty! No load of commercial washer type wash to be off balance in that one! The second repairman was very knowledgeable and washing the clothes all in Deep Water or Bulky cycle is keeping it from doing Michael Jackson routine; however, the fact remains that the machine does NOT spin correctly and the laundry is too damp at the end of the cycle.

I still have to spin in on the “Drain and Spin” cycle to get it spun a bit better for the dryer. This wastes so much of my time and again, electricity. Then there is the other point that it is ridiculous to buy a washer with that many wash selections and then all one can use is “Bulky” and “Deep Water.

” Because I know this model can do so much better, it is an insult to my intelligence to not take it back as a lemon and replace with a washer that is comparable to the first. THAT is the washer I wanted and believed that I was replacing with that hulk of an excuse for a washer I have been stuck with.

This washer is not going to stand the test of time because it has already had parts coming loose on it from the excessive shaking and walking it has done. I don’t believe that it washes nearly as well as the first one either.

The overall performance of the machine is a total disappointment.

I have had this washer a year and regret it every day! The first thing I miss is the fabric softener dispenser which I never noticed in the store since I figured that was standard since about 1970. Second thing is the lack of option for any water temperature for rinse cycle other than COLD, I feel stripped of my freedom to choose how to rinse my load of laundry! Since this washer is only used by a retired couple and has a selling feature of having a huge tub capacity, I thought I would have less loads to wash, I was wrong! This washer has to be set on deep water mode with minimal clothes each load and hope and prayers that the clothes will become marginally clean.

If you use any other cycle you will be lucky if every stitch of clothing even becomes wet! the clothes hardly move in the tub, very little water is dispensed, I don’t even think the detergent gets distributed over the entire load.

Simply put I despise this washer and many times wash my small loads twice. If I have something with a stain, I have to hand wash, take to the cleaners or to my daughter house to use her washer which will remove it, because this washer won’t.

I have serious buyers remorse with this purchase. The tub moves back and forth about 1/4″ to 1/2″ at a time every couple seconds in not even enough water covering the clothes and has no agitator, how are the clothe suppose to get clean? If you wash a medium or large load, you will see the clothes in the same position upon the end of the load as when you loaded the machine, By large load I am talking about 4 pair of jeans, 4 t-shirts, some boxers and socks.

I find that pathetic. Three towels is the most I can wash and feel they will get somewhat cleaned, sad! Pass on this washer!.

I bought a Whirlpool matching pair of Cabrio appliances (4. 3 cu. ft washer/7. 0 cu. ft. dryer) in July, 2016. The electric dryer is still going strong 5. 5 years later. The washer’s gear box went out a year ago in December, 2020, after 4.

5 years. I had an extended warranty on it that saved my bacon, but due to the COVID-19 “panic-demic”, production supplies came to a near stand-still and inventories depleted quickly, so it took 3 months for the part to arrive and Whirlpool’s designated service repairmen to replace it.

3 months!!! In contacting Whirlpool multiple times during the interim, I suggested that they grant me an allowance, equal to their cost of repair, and let me use it to buy a new product. It sounded like a win-win scenario to me, but Whirlpool would have none of it, so my wife and I had to be greatly inconvenienced for 3 months, and Whirlpool had to spend money on the cost of repair.

The servicemen told me it would’ve cost me about $500 had I not had an extended warranty — $500 in repairs on a washer that originally cost me $400. Amazing! Even if Whirlpool had only given me a partial allowance toward a new washer, both Whirlpool and I would’ve still come out ahead.

Instead, my wife and I were greatly inconvenienced for 3 months, but to Whirlpool’s credit, I paid nothing for the installation of the new gear box, and I now have a 5. 5 year old washer that still makes noises but with almost a year left on its extended warranty.

I don’t fault Whirlpool, but their inflexibility and lack of seeing the big picture were disappointing, since Whirlpool makes a profit on sales, not on warrantied repairs. If I buy Whirlpool replacements in the future, which I’m still inclined to do, I’ll certainly buy another extended warranty, at least on the washer, since there’re so many more working parts and operational cycles involved for a washer than with the spinning tub for a dryer.

This is my first new washer. In the past, I have always moved into a residence that already had a washer. That was the case when I moved into this residence 13 years ago. Well, after using the washer that came with this residence for over 13 years, it has slowly died.

The last straw was when it would no longer spin without persuasion. I spent considerable time researching various brands and models, and reading many conflicting opinions regarding models with and without the good old “Agitator.

” Because this area is presently under extreme drought conditions, I opted for the more efficient non agitator machines. I have other LG products that have been very reliable with excellent performance, so I sought out an LG dealer.

After visiting some Big Box stores, I ended up at Merits Home Appliances in Klamath Falls, OR, an LG dealer that had a LG WT7900HBA on display. This is the only washing machine that had every feature I wanted in this area.

I then ordered the washing machine, but delayed delivery for two weeks to give me time to remodel the area where it would be installed. Finally, Merits installers brought and installed my new machine.

Here is where it got interesting. I stood there and stared at the new machine and asked myself, “How do I turn it on and do a load of clothes?” It was really very simple, but thank you You Tube! I have now done several loads with zero problems.

Everything from dirty jeans to bedding and towels. There is a setting for everything you want to do. It makes funny noises as it goes through a cycle, but in the end it gets everything clean, and the spin cycle works very well removing moisture compared to older machines.

This machine has a huge amount of room in the tub. I washed a King size comforter with room to spare. I bought the extended warranty, so I should be good to go for a very long time.

I am well pleased with the performance of my LG WT7900HBA washing machine. It doesn’t twist my sheets like my old machine did. It gets my clothes clean. Auto mode works fine. However, I do have two issues: First, It is impossible to see what is happening inside the washer by looking through the smoked glass lid.

It might as well be an all metal lid (a minor issue). Second, the washer comes without any instructions (information of any kind) concerning the control panel (a real concern for me). I went to LG’s web site looking for info there and the only thing available is the Owner’s Manual, which came with the machine.

For me, this is serious customer disregard on LG’s part. When I first received the washer, the control panel didn’t respond to any of my input attempts, however, it was suggested I visit LG’s Help Library page.

No solution there but looking for solutions on your web site did suggest a “Power Start” (I think it was called) which seems to have activated the control panel. I was born long before the tech. age and wasn’t so gifted at birth as so many seem to be today.

It would be big of LG to provide, at least on line, information for the control panel and how to use instructions for dummies like me, instead of my having to learn a little each time I use the machine.

Wouldn’t have to be lengthily, just enough to help us understand when and why we would want to select a function. I’m assuming that any of the control panel’s functions have to be selected before starting the wash cycle.

An example, if I want to add more water after starting the wash, well tough! Should have thought of that before pressing the start button! Thanks for letting me vent.

First, let me state for the record, that I purchased LG’s top of the line WiFi connected appliances: Washer, Dryer, Refrigerator, Dishwasher, Range and Microwave. I won’t go into the gory details about how much this set me back, but suffice to say it was substantial.

Now, let me get into the details regarding this washer. It is a beautiful, black stainless steel machine with every bell and whistle one could want. It runs very quietly, and does a fantastic job of cleaning my clothing, bedding and anything else I throw at it.

The build quality is top notch. Everything works splendidly (pregnant pause. wait for it. ) except for the WiFi connectivity. This thing will not connect to my network no matter how close I am to it with my iPhone.

The app just keeps saying “Place phone closer to the machine”. The only way I can get any closer would be to crawl inside. Even the technician couldn’t get it to work after replacing the entire control board.

Now, the WiFi light won’t even light up. LG is sending out another technician to try his style of voodoo, but I doubt that he’ll have any better luck. Oh, and just another note about LG’s ThinQ WiFi feature, my brand new range has the same irritating issue.

They are replacing the range. I’m guessing they’ll end up replacing the washer as well. I would have given the washer 5 stars, except the WiFi feature was the primary reason I bought it in the first place.

Hi All, Purchased this set (5 cu ft washer and 7. 5 cu ft dryer) literally installed 6 days ago. What I found, on the very first load, and mind you, I do about 3-4 loads of laundry a day (large family), was the ability to just walk up and get the washer and dryer going is extremely frustrating.

Rather than having a quick, turn the knob and go, you’ll find you have to power on (which takes several seconds of holding the power button), then (specific to our family) we don’t use softener, so the machine will, every single time, tell you softener dispenser low (which should have the ability to turn off but alas), you have to push “ok” to exit that, then spin to the desired wash cycle, then hold the go button for several seconds to make it go (this is the easiest of the two to get going).

The dryer is the more frustrating of the two. To get the dryer going please realize one important thing, the dryer defaults, every. single. cycle to “eco mode”. Eco mode will set your “normal” dry time to an hour and fifteen minutes, because it doesn’t use hot air to dry.

It does this with normal cycle, timed dry, and a few other cycles (it does not do it for the towel cycle). This single aspect is what makes this set so frustrating. The routine to just dry a load of clothes in one cycle: Move clothes to dryer, close the door Hold the power button for several seconds Spin the dial to “normal” (for the majority of loads) Push options Spin dial to “eco mode” Push ok Push options again Push and hold play button to start dryer Now, throw in what usually happens, during this procedure (which simply takes too long, there should be a disable eco mode), if you touch, move, brush against the dial, it’ll spin, then you literally have to start over the entire process from spin to normal cycle, push options, etc.

I did it once and immediately realized there was no way I wanted to do this every. single. load. It’s beyond frustrating, it’s way too many pushes, spins, options, and I’m not some old person who doesn’t understand “this dang new fangled technology”, I’m pretty hip and with it (at least I think so) and dang, this is just too much.

You’ll see reviews that say, “set a favorite on the app and you can just spin to that and go” the problem is, even if you set a favorite on the app to normal dry with no eco mode, it still defaults to eco mode on the favorite, it’s ridiculously difficult, not intuitive at all, sometimes fancy touch screens, etc are just noise.

Buyer beware, and seriously, if you could just spin it once to whatever cycle you wanted then hit the go button, these would be great, but when you spend 2 minutes every single cycle hitting buttons, options, spinning dials, it’s ridiculously unintuitive.

I purchased my washer/dryer combo from Lowes and at the time Lowes was the only store that offered the shadow gray color. Free delivery and set-up was provided by Lowes and the installers were very professional, knowledgeable and answered all my questions.

Since day 1 both the washer and dryer have run perfectly and I have now had them for 3 months. I did have to carefully read the manual to learn all of the many settings. The washer is very user friendly and the bells and beeps are almost musical, not like the old loud alarm that sounded like a tsunami warning.

I purchased the largested washer available and it easily cleans my cal-king blankets, sheets, comforter and even bath rugs. One of the selling points for me was the option of the removable agitator and I am so glad I have that.

Most of the time I use the agitator but it is easily removable when I have bulky items to wash. The only even slight problem for me is that at 5’4″ I can barely reach the bottom of the tub to lift out clothes (standing on my tippy toes).

The tub itself is very deep, thus being able to handle very large loads. Not really a negative, just the price I pay for being short! There are too many great things to list but another selling point is the automatic load size sensor.

The washer senses the amount of clothing in the tub and only uses the amount of water needed to clean the clothes. In this day and age of climate change and the need for water conservation, this is a huge plus.

I would say that any extra I paid for this washer cancel’s itself in the savings on my water bill, plus the great feeling that I am doing my part to conserve water! I highly recommend this washer/dryer combo.

If you are hesitating at all, don’t. It is a beautiful set and I am 100% happy with it.

I just received my new washer on Saturday October 23rd. It looks great, and has lots of buttons and features but that is where the good ends and the BAD starts! The owners manual mentions many things like washing socks and jeans, etc.

, but nothing about what “actually” happens when you select different functions. To explain if you’re used to knowing exactly what was going to happen with your old washer with a turn dial timer you wont like this intuitive button system they have now! To explain further.

with your older style washer, you turn the knob to start at lets say “normal” wash. your machine would fill with water and then when it reached the correct fill level it would start to “agitate”. NOT this unit! Once you press start the drum spins slowly for a few seconds and then the water starts to pour in for about a min and then starts to agitate, and then adds water for about a minute and then agitates and then adds water and this goes on for over twenty mins! Its ridiculous!!! Because this washer has a glass top, you have the pleasure of watching your clothing get twisted into tight knots as this process carries on! Eventually this machine goes into washing mode which is another disappointment! The agitator is not like the one you had on your older machine.

it works at about 50 % of what you are used too! Its small and thin and the blades do very little to move the clothes around! But wait the fun isn’t over! Now it’s “rinse” time. I selected extra rinse for one particular wash and saw the machine add a very small amount of water and then start to spin.

If you like your older washer adding plenty of water for a proper rinse you wont like this model! It’s just terrible! The rinse cycle goes like this. a small amount of water pours on top of your clothes ( does not even start to fill the drum) then it spins stops drains water and does this a few times so you really have no idea if at any point it will actually fill with water.

which its doesn’t! Today (October 25th. ) I called Whirlpool and waited close to 30 mins before a live voice answered my call. I asked about the horrible rinse cycle, and if there was another setting that she could guide me too being that the “Quick Start Guide” is not that helpful at all! The female I spoke with could not find a better user manual in her information she had at her finger tips or online! I did discover that Whirlpool offers a 30 Day Wash Performance Money Back Guarantee which I am already considering using as this washer is probably not for me.

Personally, I feel I could wash and rinse my clothes better if I put a big bucket in the middle of my front lawn, put the clothes in the bucket, pour some Tide on top of everything and wait for it to rain! Again, if you have had a “top load” washer all your life, and love the way it works and what it does you will be very disappointed if you buy this model! To Whirlpool, Please do something about the complete lack of useful information you provide! This is a NEW machine give us proper information on how to get the best out of the features and not what cycle to use to wash socks as WE are already there! I just received this washing machine yesterday and I hate it. I’m so upset as I love all of my other whirlpool appliances and that is one of the main reasons I went with this one. The other is that I thought the removable agitator was such a great idea for big bulky loads such as bedding.

I will also say that this washer is replacing a 20 year old whirlpool that was obviously not high efficiency. I did 2 loads of clothing yesterday and there was nowhere near the appropriate amount of water in the tub.

The clothes at the top never submerged. Also, the agitator is ridiculous. It does not move the clothes around at all! I’m not used to the back and forth motion of it as the one in my old machine only went in one direction and that made sure that the clothes submerged and rotated.

It seems as though this one has no power to it at all. For the second load I took the agitator out to see if it would make a difference only using the impeller. It did not! Then this morning I used the bulky items load as I was washing a mattress pad.

This seems to automatically use the deep wash setting but then it appeared as if there was no soap dispensed, or at least a very little amount for the amount of water that was in the tub. I am currently watching another load of clothing hardly move in the tub at all.

The load has been “washing” for a good 15 minutes and the clothing that was at the top is still at the top. I am so disappointed that I spent the money on this machine! Unfortunately since it was an item that was ordered from a local furniture/appliance store (they don’t carry it on the floor) I cannot return/exchange it.

I have a feeling that I will be bringing my old one back into the house and putting this one in the garage! Such a waste.

I’ve been using this machine for about 6 weeks. Before I made this purchase, I went to the Internet to get information on user reports, reliability and also user instructions. Good that I did since user’s guide delivered with the machine is cryptic as are most such guides.

-I like to dry bedclothes outside, but the weather is not always amenable, so I sometimes have two changes stored in the laundry area. Not a problem for this machine which can handle more than two changes plus other items.

-I really like the glass top so I can see what’s happening inside despite the lid being locked. I need to see that because water restriction negatively impacts the cleaning operations and sometimes I try to find a way to slightly increase the water level to make it clean more thoroughly.

I’ve learned that deep washing is offered thru two control settings which appear to have the same effect but I’m still learning what the laundry types mean, like what does the “light soil” setting do for the user.

I also needed to extract water (per your instructions) from an item that I had handwashed ahead of the main wash and got the idea that a small item with some water in it could fool the weighing process into reporting somewhat more washing items than really present.

A small increase in water consumption results but the clothes in these loads seem cleaner. Yet I’m not using the full deep wash function so that the amounts of extra water and time may be small. – Also like the film-covered controls which should never be damaged or compromised by the water commonly spread around the laundry area.

– And like the cycle time readout from which I can set my smart phone timer to alert me to the need for a response by me to the machine. – Like the Spin Only setting to extract water from my handwashing which is usually small but cannot stand being wrung out by hand.

I also use this in combination with a slower spin out speed when washing a large, heavy load. I program a slow spin for the end of the wash cycle and then follow that with a short high speed Spin Only when the load has a reduced weight.

– And this machine does not startle with loud clangs as did my older machine. – With multiple washing modes available, combined with ‘modifier” opportunities, this washer is a remarkable machine likely to handle all but one of my washable bedclothes items.

I bought this machine on 4-22-2022. After reading reviews, I thought it was a good choice. What a total waste of my money. This machine barely moves the clothes around. The clothes do not get fully immersed in the water.

The water level is so low that you have to use deep wash setting every time if you want the water to cover your clothes. Even when you select the small load size or large size load, it barely puts any water in machine to cover the clothes.

Machine starts wash cycle and clothes on top are still dry from when put in. Machine keeps spinning to detect load balance and adds water into the machine which extends wash time. It takes minimum, 90 or more minutes to wash one load.

This machine has very poor agitation. Clothes do not get pulled under and around. Clothes stay in same position throughout wash cycle. Anyone with extremely dirty or greasy laundry will be disappointed because of the poor agitation.

Sometimes I have a small load but I still have to select the deep wash setting to ensure water fills up in machine to cover the clothes. It’s an over abundance of water for a small amount of clothes.

I wanted to like this machine but unfortunately it is a major failure and falls short in performance especially with water level. I cannot recommend this machine.

I bought this machine online without having gone to the store to see it, so I am at fault to some degree. I did not notice that you can not adjust water levels. But more so, the sensors that detect how much water to use for the “Normal” load are inaccurate -the clothes start agitating in very little water and are basically still dry! I understand that the machine starts out by sensoring, spinning and leveling the load, but when that part of the cycle is over, the wash cycle begins without enough water.

I’ve used different settings to get to the water level I want for the load I’m doing, and even when i think i have a “normal” load of relatively light weight clothing, I have found that I need to use “Heavy Duty” or “Deep Wash” cycles to get a load that covers the clothing in enough water.

At this rate, I would never need to use the “Normal” cycle. Who would have thought! The manual is of little help – it leaves a lot of questions unanswered. And most disappointing is that this machine was highly rated by Consumer Reports.

Am I missing something? The LG website doesn’t mention this issue. I have called customer service about this and no one seems to know how explain to me how to work around this, so it makes me feel that it is what it is.

I’ve owned washers for over 40 yrs and never had a machine that does not let me adjust the water. I’ll never get and LG again.

I read and watched so many reviews on this washer and every washer in its class. So glad I went with this one – cleans wonderfully and it’s so nice to have the agitator for large or soiled loads and the impeller for gentle cycles.

No matter the laid side I use 1 persil or tide pods and the laundry comes out clean and fresh. High efficiency machines need 1 pod max! Any more and you will have too much soap and get less than desirable results.

Soap works with the water to lift the dirt up and out but if you have more soap than the water can handle you upset the balance and the soap will basically form a barrier on top of the water and hold the dirt down so it settles back on your clothes.

So if your clothes aren’t getting clean – use less soap not more! Even your biggest loads don’t need more than 2 Tablespoons (1/8 cup) or about 1 pod. I promise-google ‘how many tablespoons of soap should I use’ and you’ll see this written about over and over.

The recommendations on the laundry packaging brands are pure marketing to get to you use more and spend more money! They are based on old washers that use a lot of hot soapy water. When pods first came out Tide advertised it as ‘1 is all you need’ because it is extremely concentrated and it’s still true to this day! The same with liquid detergent labeled HE – don’t use more than 1/8 cup for your largest loads.

Yes I know what Tide and Gain and Persil put on the package but that is based on increasing their sells! Trust me 1 pod (or 1/8 liquid cup equivalent) is all you need -cut your detergent bill in 1/2 and get cleaner clothes.

Also put the pod in first on the bottom and when using this machine in impeller load – pretend there is still an agitator in the center and add clothes around it – leave center of impeller disk open.

Follow this (all of which is in the manual if you read it) and you will be so happy with this washer!.

I bought a washer at Home Depot in August and had it shipped to my house on Martha’s Vineyard. I paid to have the old washer removed. The delivery company dropped it off and said they wouldn’t bring the washer into the basement, so I had to lug it downstairs myself and they wouldn’t take the old washer away saying “that’s not our responsibility”.

After they left and I opened the cardboard box, I found out the front of the washer had a dent in it (but it worked fine). I contacted Home Depot and they said they’d ship another. A few weeks later the new washer arrived and the delivery company tried to charge me $120 for delivery and said they wouldn’t take away the first (dented and new) washer away even though it was a replacement.

I had to contact Home Depot at least 10 times (and that’s not including the number of times I was transferred from one person to another) to finally get them to waive the delivery fee and take away the first washer.

I had to bring the new washer downstairs also – and it’s very heavy and the stairs are steely. When I unboxed it and set it up, it didn’t work. It appears the lid locking mechanism is defective and therefore won’t go into spin cycle.

I contacted Home Depot several days later and they told me I didn’t report that it didn’t work within 48 hours, so I had to deal with Whirlpool. I called Whirlpool. Whirlpool told me they wouldn’t ship me a new one (even though it’s under warranty) and my brand new, right out of the box washer needed to be repaired instead.

But, when they tried to find a repair person, they struggled to find one on the island of Martha’s Vineyard. I finally found one for them, but the repair person can’t come until mid-November. So I still don’t have a washer, all my clothes are dirty, I’ve lugged several washing machines up and down my basement stairs repeatedly, I can’t get Whirlpool to replace the defective washer and I’m generally not happy at all.

Whirlpool is a well know and respected brand and there’s a simple solution to this problem – ship me a new washer that isn’t damaged and actually works!!!!.

Extremely noisy machine. The water fill valve sounds like a jet airplane. Surely there are water fill valves that will operate silently. The beginning spin cycle has a metallic grinding noise. The machine lacks adequate userr selectable water level options.

The standard water level is inadequate to even cover the clothes and the deep water selection adds nearly a full tub, considerably more water than is needed. There is no owner’s manual provided with the machine nor anything on-line.

Even a new ceiling fan comes with an owner’s manual. This is the 4th Whirlpool washer I have owned since 1976 and the performance and quality of the previous machines was a prime factor in my selection of Whirlpool.

With the noises coming from this machine I seriously doubt that it will last the average 15 years of the previous machines. And I doubt I would ever purchase another Whirlpool washer. The sloped top on these machines is a STUPID idea.

I poured the fabric softener into the measuring cup and sat the bottle down on the dryer to lift the lid on the washer to pour the softener and the softener bottle slid off the dryer and spilled on the floor.

Whoever approved this sloped top design obviously never actually washed clothes. Form over Function, akin to putting the brake pedal on a car on the passenger side because it looks better with one pedal on each side.

Sadly, after using the machine for nearly a month I cannot find one thing I like better than my previous top-load Whirlpool machine.

Very happy overall with this washing machine. It replaced a GE Harmony high-capacity touch-screen machine I had purchased in 2004. I’m not sure if my 16-year-old machine had lost some of its power over the years or if this machine is just better technology, but I suspect it’s a combo of both.

Wow, this thing gets your stuff clean! I threw a load of my daughter’s gross stuffed animals in it and they all came out looking and smelling brand new, and any stained clothes I pre-treat come out looking fabulous.

I’m talking spots I couldn’t remove with my old washer, even with a 3-hour presoak! I should mention the drum size on this device, because it is ENORMOUS. I washed a king sized quilt w/all the sheets and pillowcases, and still had room! The machine did not go off balance, and the bedding was clean as could be afterwards.

You’ll need to make sure your dryer can handle a very large load, though, as I found my high-capacity dryer (did not get this as part of a set; my old dryer works great) was not really able to handle the biggest loads I could fit into the washer.

Also, short people be advised: I’m 5’5” and thanks to an ample bosom I cannot reach into the far bottom on the backside of this washer drum! Never thought that would be a problem, but I made a small step stool out of some scrap wood I had lying around to give me a 6” boost at the end of the washer to dryer transfer.

Problem solved! The only cons on this machine (as far as I can tell after a couple dozen loads) are that it seems more difficult to program the exact wash sequence I desire than it was on my old GE touch screen washer.

I bought this as a floor model to take advantage of a good discount, so I did not receive a manual, which may help with figuring out that issue (I’m hoping to find that manual online today). For instance, some loads allow the ‘pre-soak’ or ‘deep fill’ options, while others don’t.

Also, if you put a larger load in for a quick wash, you’re likely to find that it takes longer than you initially expected after the washer ‘senses’ the load. It’s never more than a 20-30 minute difference, and I can certainly live with that in order to ensure I have clean things.

One thing that was worth mentioning is the soft-close (LOVE THAT!) see-through lid this machine has. My whole family stood in the laundry room for nearly 40 minutes watching the machine do its thing on the day it arrived.

It was quite funny to see my 3 and 8-yo so interested in a washer. 🙂 I’ll be honest; I too had to watch it fill and start to agitate on the first 4-5 uses. lol I guess it was interesting since I had never owned anything but top-loaders in my life, and therefore until I purchased this one, I hadn’t seen what they do I guess? Who knows.

So far I have one had one large load go out of balance, and all I had to do to correct it was press the start button for a few seconds. A feature I love on this machine is the ability to regulate the spin, rinse, soil, and temp cycles with more options than I was used to having.

There are 5 variances from low to high so you can choose which temp, spin, etc you would like. The additional spin is great for particularly heavy items or loads. All in all, if you wash for a family of 4 or more and/or have a king-sized bed, this is great choice.

This washer works pretty well. when it works. It regularly becomes unbalanced during spin cycles, particularly when washing bedding. What good is a 5 cubic foot washer if it can’t run a load over half full without becoming unbalanced three times so that the cycle takes 4+ hours? I’ve tried loading it every which way, never overdoing it; this washer just can’t handle large loads.

It becomes unbalanced, you try to wring out some water and reload it evenly, it resets itself to another 30 minutes, and 20 minutes you’re doing it all over again. It seems to work well otherwise although run times often seem very long for the loads.

Despite its issues, the laundry always seems clean (eventually). Would not purchase again.

purchased 2 years ago in july 2020. this is an absolute piece of junk. 3 months ago i received a $500 water bill for a one month time period. apparently my washing machine becomes unbalanced if it washes more than 2 towels ar one time.

at which point it pours more water in, agitates, drains, spins, and gets unbalanced. and it will do that process for hours. so i now have to stand over my washing machine to make sure it doesnt run continuously.

i called samsung support, they sent a tech and the tech said nothing was wrong. there is something wrong if a washing machine cannot handle one set of sheets or handle a load with only 2 towels. do not buy this washing machine.

I purchased this washer in Dec 2020. Called and complained about how loud the washer was and that it didnt sound normal. I was informed by the rep it was normal and there was nothing they could do but could pay for someone to look it, despite it being under warranty.

Since then I have had numerous people over and whenever the washer is running everyone asks “what is that!?” And are shocked when I tell them its my new washer. Everyone says the same thing as i told the rep, that they’ve never heard a washing machine that loud before.

I called again to complain. But since its out of warranty (which is only 1 year!) and i apparently dont live in their service are they cant help at all and told me to find someone on my own to look it and fix it! I will never recommend GE to anyone ever again and will never buy anything GE again.

The washer has a lot of nice features but is lacking in a few also. Adding detergent to each load is something I haven’t done in quite a while. My prior washer metered the detergent itself based upon the load.

But the worst part of this washer, and the reason I am giving it only 2 stars, is the noise. You can hear this washer throughout my entire house. My laundry room is on the second floor and you can still hear it in my basement.

The detergent dispenser doesn’t seem to work correctly every time. A lot of fabric softener gets left in the tray, about every 3rd load. I regret the purchase more than you know. This will be my last GE appliance purchase.

Bought 3 years ago. My last masher and dryer lasted 13 years with only small minor repairs. This machine is leaking at the pump. Must be a common thing because repair videos are already available on line.

My limited 10 year warranty only covers the motor, not the pump. Besides this major complaint, you can not add bleach after washer is full of water without waiting a long time for all safety features to allow you to open the lid.

You can’t decide what size load to wash or the water levels.

I was in a pinch when my 12+ year old workhorse Whirlpool Cabrio washer’s transmission failed. I needed a new washer fast and had a physical size limitation in my laundry room. I preferred to stick with Whirlpool because of my positive history with the brand, and – due to limited inventory (supply chain issues) – this was the only model that fit the bill that had all (most?) of the features I was looking for (stainless steel tub, impeller).

I had to buy it sight-unseen because of the 5 local stores that carried it, only one had it in stock and no one had it in-store. The controls are simple and self-explanatory. It also has a greater interior capacity than my last unit yet is the same physical dimensions.

And the price was right (I paid the same amount that I paid for my Cabrio 12+ years earlier). so I kinda know I bought a “lesser” unit. That said, while it is not as quiet as my Cabrio, I would not say that it is “noisy”.

I do miss having an upper tray for laundry detergent that allows me to put the detergent in AFTER I load the washer, but remembering to put the detergent in first is just a habit I have to break. It doesn’t spin as fast as my Cabrio so clothes don’t come out as dry, but certainly dry enough (my old machine was a beast); I didn’t notice drying times being significantly longer.

I did experience the water-saver mode complaints that I read in some other reviews (not all clothes get “wet” initially), but I have also read that you have to use the washer a while in that mode for it to “learn”.

That said, I am on well water, so I don’t pay for water usage. I turned water-saver mode off and the tub fills nicely. Clothes come out clean which I suppose is the point after all! Its not “perfect” (I May have bought something else had the situation been different) , but – considering supply chain and size limitations – this washer meets my needs and gets the job done.

I love this machine! This thing is the workhorse of the house, getting some pretty bad jobs but it is always up to task. I loved soap it was in automatically making sure that the kids don’t add too much or too little.

The biggest thing is it doesn’t move around nor is it overly loud but it extracts so much water that sometimes the dryer runs for less than 20 minutes. It’s also to be noted that I have an older dryer.

This is the first front load that I’ve liked after trying various whirlpools. We’ve always been a top-load family but this is the machine that has changed to that.

We bought this washer after having a top loader Maytag of 18 years. We have had the LG machine for 6 months. Consumer Reports gave this model along with the LG WM3900 and LG WM3500 models very high scores on performance.

Spent a lot of time researching washers and this model was one of the top choices. Another big competitor for me was the GE UltraFresh HE Vent system. One model being GFW550SSNWW. This machine seems to address the potential mold issues better.

(Definitely check these models out, but make sure you look at the machines with the “UltraFresh” in the name. ) Ultimately we picked the LG washer because the dimensions width and depth are a little smaller.

(27×30 vs 28 x 32). Double check the route the washing machine will take getting into your house. The LG machine has a lot of cool features such as delay wash, allergy cycle, bedding, child lock, WIFI, tub clean, extra rinse, Fresh Care (extra tumbling if not home to prevent wrinkles) etc.

So far, I have tried delicates, bedding, Steam, normal, delay wash and all seemed to be working well. Right away I have cleaned comforters one being a king size without any problems. The additional capacity is a big plus to clean large bedding especially during Covid.

As many reviews have said the display screen is difficult to see, but if you are just selecting a load without changing the settings then this won’t be a problem for you. For example, one chooses a normal load and the default temp, soil level, spin then the user just presses start.

Many people have done work arounds such as using a flashlight, installing additional lights in laundry area, or placing a light with magnetic strip on top of machine. After 6 months I know the different buttons I don’t need extra lights.

Recently I discovered I LOVE LOVE the delay feature. It is good for up to 20 hours. Also I use the Fresh Care option which tumbles your clothes every 7 minutes until you move the clothes to dryer. A big SURPRISE is all rinses is with cold water.

A couple big things to note is if you have a tankless water heater. The washer starts and assuming you want hot/warm water the washing machine asks to supply hot water for 30 seconds then stop, then 1 minute later ask for hot water for 30ish seconds then stop again for several times.

This does not work well for our tankless system. Our tankless system runs a gallon of water through before hot water comes. This doesn’t always give the washer enough time to receive warm water. I did see another reviewer complaining about the same thing.

(Company suggests running water faucet until hot near washing machine. That beats saving any water. ) Some tankless water systems due address this delay in hot water problem–sandwich situation. Due to the way our hot water is supplied by tankless system the STEAM feature doesn’t work well.

Please note that it doesn’t to totally heat up the water. It is expecting the water to be somewhat hot before it increases the temperature. Another item to be aware of is if you have an older house with copper pipes is water hammer.

I don’t think this is the fault of the machine but the changes in our society rules and having water efficiency appliances. There are remedies for water hammer (Mini Resters) and you do want to take care of it before your pipes give you a problem.

Finally, for this machine and probably most of the front loaders is the maintenance. After each day of use, the user needs to wipe down/dry the door and gasket (especially the gasket) with a towel. Also remove the dispenser, rinse out, and towel dry inside the dispenser.

(SOMETIMES there is quite a bit of water in the drawer. ) Depending on the type of wash. Keep the door open overnight to further dry the machine. Additionally, a monthly maintenance is recommended of running the Tub Clean cycle, pull the drain hose (front bottom left) to drain leftover tub water and while drain hose is out, clean out the catch-basket too.

All this is to prevent mold and smelly problems that come with the front loader machines. After 6 months we tend to do this maintenance bi-monthly. Something to consider if your washing machine is on the main level of the house.

The washer door is OFTEN open to air it out unless you do all your laundry in one day. This will be a challenge to teach my teenagers in the house to keep the door open after doing laundry. Not to mention drying out the gasket and door.

So, if you don’t want to spend the extra time on the maintenance of a front loader this may not be the best choice for you. Unfortunately, we didn’t have a lot of options of where to buy a new LG machine except at big box stores.

Local appliance stores were not selling the LG washer machines. This is still a GREAT machine with lots of cool features including troubleshooting problems with the Wifi connection.

Me and 2 other friends have bought LG washers in 2021 around March to May. Different models. Mine was this one. And we all have experienced water filling too high despite using normal washing loads and normal soap amounts.

Water filled too high and poured out the front through the door and we could not stop it, the hose at the bottom did not drain water fast enough for the amount of water that is in the basin. I had to get my floors redone and when the technician and plumber came neither could recreate the issue because It seems to just happen sporadically.

Hopefully my insurance will subrogate and get me my deductible back, luckily I’m on the first floor of an apartment and so no units underneath me to be worried about. I was also fortunate that Costco accepted a full refund despite it being just past 90 days after I bought this.

Now I am nervous to buy any LG washers….

Bought this washer along with the matching dryer in February. It cleans fine and looks great. Unless your absolutely stupid on how to wash a load of clothes, buy a cheaper model and save your money. There are to many so-called “Smart” features built in.

When you pick one of the cycles, there is little choices you can make to any of the settings. They now have ‘Dirt” sensors which adjusts how long the wash will take. The average load takes about an hour and a half.

And don’t leave the house after you start a load, because if it gets a little off balance, it will sit there going back and forth very slowly forever until you stop it. The door rattles like crazy at the beginning and end of a spin cycle.

Called for repair and the LG repairman couldn’t find any adjustment on the door and blamed the problem on the cheap casing the door closes against. He called it a ‘soup can’ He tried to bend the front out a little, but it still rattles.

As far as the lengthy time, the repairman told me to stay away from most of the preprogrammed features. Do yourself a favor, unless your a complete idiot and have all the time in the world to do laundry, buy a cheaper model with a few less features, The dryer is the same way, it has dampness sensors, the time on the display is no indication of how long it will actually take, if a damp sock happens to come in contact with the sensor, the dry time will increase dramatically, frying the rest of the load.

The repairman again told me to just stay way from 7 of the 9 dry dry cycles. Again buy a cheaper unit with less features, after all, you just trying to dry your clothes, right. BTW, I was told by the repairman that almost all makes of the newer high-end.

washers and dryer work the same way, regardless of the manufacturer.

So it’s a nice size washing machine and easy to figure out. The only thing is that on normal hook ups cold water is on the right and hot on the left. Well not this one, when they hooked it up my cold water cycle was steaming hot! Customer service was awful to deal with to get someone out to fix it so we did it ourselves after finally realizing what the problem was.

Note to others if you have issues with anything call your sales guy directly ours has them coming out in a couple days to fix the dryer issue that RC should have fixed prior to delivery. I was on hold for over an hour to be transferred once again to get service a month later but he got me in quick! Otherwise the washer itself cleans great! I had a very pet spiked item and no stains at all after washing last night :)?.
