THIS BOOK!!! I think most of us love a good Nicholas Sparks book, but this wasn’t the usual I was expecting. It’s romantic, it’s thrilling, it’s dramatic. It pulls so many emotions and you cannot put it down! This is definitely a book for a wide range of readers and I’d recommend it in a heartbeat!.

I love Nicholas sparks! There are so many books to choose from and they never disappoint. If you enjoy romance give one of his books a try!

Nicholas Sparks is one of my favorite authors and this is definitely one of my new favorite books by him!! This book has his traditional love story aspect but with more of a mystery/thriller aspect as well.

The combination of these two aspects made it absolutely impossible for me to put this book down!! This book is filled with all kinds of twists and turns that you will never see coming!!.

Since I lived in the New Bern area sixty years ago, the towns he mentions in his books are plain for me to picture. Also having a family member living in one of the beautiful beach towns south of New Bern, his books & locations bring the stories closer to me.

His books are page turners with endings that arent always what you might expect. His characters are so real & you cant wait to see what will happen next. You cant imagine how a new book could ever out-due the last but it certainly seems that it does.

Im anxiously awaiting his next book!.

I’ve read a couple of his other books and this one is slightly different. With Sparks adding thriller into the mix it definitely adds to the romance. I’m only halfway through but it’s a nice read. I wish there was some more passion and emotion but it’s a book that does make you wonder what the end has in store for you.

It’s a little slower than some of his books at first but as you keep reading the deeper you get into it.

I had read this book before, and bought it again thinking I had not read it. It is such a good story, I read it again. Julie’s husband Jim has passed away. Christmas brings an unexpected delivery and a letter from her deceased husband.

The delivery is a Great Dane puppy. Julie’s best friend is Jim’s best friend, Mike. Julie is a hairdresser, working for Jim’s aunt Mabel. When Julie came to town, at Jim’s invitation-her mother had kicked her out of the house-Mabel gave Julie a job and a place to live.

Julie dates Richard, who ends up being bad news. Once they break up she and Mike start dating. That’s when Richard started showing his bad side. He ends up stalking Julie.

The Thursday Murder Club is the first book in the series of the same title by British TV presenter, producer, director, and novelist, Richard Osman. When builder, property developer and drug dealer, Tony Curran is bludgeoned to death in his kitchen, the members of the Thursday Murder Club are inordinately delighted.

They are accustomed to discussing cold cases from police files; a real live case is much more exciting! The Thursday Murder Club meets weekly in the Jigsaw Room at Coopers Chase retirement village, of which they are all residents.

Their leader, Elizabeth, is circumspect about her former life but it possibly involved espionage; Ibrahim Arif is a former psychiatrist; Joyce Meadowcroft, who strikes most people as quiet and sensible, was a nurse; Ron Ritchie, an infamous trade-union leader; and their now non-verbal, but never excluded member, Penny Gray was a Detective Inspector with Kent Police.

PC Donna De Freitas, ex-London Met, has recently become an unofficial member. The members, two of whom saw the pair arguing, are fairly certain that the owner of Coopers Chase, Ian Ventham murdered Tony Curran: he had motive, means and opportunity.

Donna would love to be involved with the Murder Squad, solving this crime, but is relegated to school visits and home security talks. Until, that is, Elizabeth wields her mysterious influence, and she becomes DCI Chris Hudson’s shadow.

After all, the Thursday Murder Club needs a reliable information source. Elizabeth and Joyce manage to track down some interesting facts that point to motive. Before they progress very far with the case, however, there is another murder, during a blockade of the adjoining cemetery, and present are residents, neighbours, members of the TMC, and their two tame cops: a not-inconsiderable suspect pool.

Meanwhile, a set of bones is located where they shouldn’t be, and one of the suspects dies, all keeping the police and the TMC busy investigating and second-guessing the conclusions they reach. Before they manage to solve two (or three?) murders, a trip to a Cypriot prison, a skating rink and a Folkestone florist are made, some evening spadework at a gravesite is done, a disused chapel confessional is brought into play, chess is played and much tea, alcohol and cake are consumed.

The story is told through a narrative from multiple perspectives interspersed with Joy Meadowcroft’s chatty journal entries. With its hugely entertaining dialogue, this is a perfect mix of cosy crime fiction and British humour that should probably not be read in the Quiet Carriage of public transport as it is likely to have readers chuckling, snickering and laughing out loud.

The follow-up, The Man Who Died Twice, is eagerly anticipated.

I love,love,loved this. It is a murder mystery set in a quaint English town but the main investigators are residents of a retirement village. Well, the police are the actual investigators but the oldies help the police more than they’d like to admit.

The main residents who help solve cold cases are the Thursday Murder Club and they meet weekly in the jigsaw room. Each have various skills from their working lives which assists in them solving the cases.

While solving the case of a local murdered developer another person is murdered and links to past murders unfold. Along the way the murder club learns that the past has a way of catching up with you and that murder and love are often intertwined.

This was engrossing, heartfelt, poignant and funny. I loved the characters , particularly Joyce,and they all shine in their own way. I even became fond of Bogden. It was wonderfully written and exciting to read.

I cannot wait to read the next two books. I love these people. I highly recommend this book. It will make you smile.

Starsky & Hutch + Cagney & Lacey + The Golden Girls Coopers Chase is a dream retirement community. There’s Zumba, sprawling estates, and the best durn parking commission in the country! Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim, and Ron live for Thursdays.

The Jigsaw Room is free to try their hand at unsolved murders. well, when a murder takes place, they feel they can show the police a thing or two. I absolutely ADORED this! Golden Girls is my favorite show of all time.

As a reader, I always wonder why there aren’t more books about old people. I would seriously read the heck out of a book about a granny (or grandpa, or even better, an older person that never had kids) falling down a hole or fighting crimes with knitting needles as their weapon and a multitude of cats at their side.

I tend to stick to the 80s and 90s when it comes to entertainment, plus I’m from the States, so I’m sad to say I was not already familiar with Mr. Osman. But you can bet your bottom dollar I’ll be following this series and anything else he writes from now on! Buy this book for yourself or anyone who loves a good mystery.

If you’re twisted, get it for someone who doesn’t believe the elderly are capable of FANTABULOUS things!!.

I’ve read all of the previous books in this series and have enjoyed most of them but recently have felt that the village of Three Pines has been getting a bit claustrophic. So – it’s great to see the action for this book move to Paris.

The depth of the well-known characters is still there and the plot really does keep you guessing – and reading. It’s a bit faster paced than some of the previous books. The most exciting book in this series for a while.

The mystery story was very well done as usual. However it should have ended with a happy Hero death of the 95 year old. I imagine it was the editors who insisted on an unrealistic and unnecessary “happy.

ending”. Very disappointing. This ending badly under estimates the intelligence of the reader; Especially one who is at all medically knowledgeable. Enough said for those who have not read it.

But the joyous reunion is marred by a serious attempt on Steven’s life and spirals downward as things are uncovered. Then the plot “thickens” and intensifies even if it seems to meander at times. All in all it was very well worth the nearly 14 hours as I went about the mundane things.

I originally listened to an audio book of Suspect as we were traveling South. My husband and I enjoyed it so much we couldn’t wait to get back into the car for the next segmant. This is a wonderful story of a police dog who survived the war and returned back to the States without his soldier.

He eventually gets revamped as a police dog. The relationship between the dog and his next “Alpha” person is truly heart wrenching. The dog is a beautiful German Sheppard. Sorry, I don’t recall wether the dog was a male or a female.

My son has a wonderful female Sheppard of his own. They are inseparable. I naught this book for him because I know he won’t be able to put it down.

If you own a dog or especially if you own a German Sheppard you will love Suspect. It is the story of a War Dog “Maggie” wounded while protecting her handler who is killed. She survives but has PTSD and is not viewed by the Marine Corps as able to recover.

A policeman named Scott is wounded when his partner is killed and struggling with PTSD. They are paired to see if they can make it through certification for the LAPD. The story is so well done and they solve a crime in their journey to heal each other.

I thoroughly enjoyed this read.

This is Robt. Crais at his usual outstanding Best; introducing two new characters & a little different story line; but still keeping with the fast moving, no drag story, that keeps you wanting to continue turning pages without interruption !! I found this book to be very hard to lay aside & wanting to get back to it as quickly as possible, when I did ! I would like to recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good read about a tough guy & great dog working together !! TRY IT; YOU’LL LIKE IT.

It was delightful to re-visit the world of Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron at the Coopers Chase retirement community, characters readers grew to know and love from Richard Osman’s 2020 smash hit The Thursday Murder Club.

In this outing, the team of sept- and octogenarian crime fighters become embroiled with British Security Service MI5 after Elizabeth’s former husband, who’s still with the secret service, makes contact with her.

A cache of valuable diamonds have gone missing from the nearby home of a shady middleman. Ibrahim is mugged while on a visit to town, the culprit escaping the scene. The team’s friendly police contacts, DCI Chris Hudson and PC Donna De Freitas, are meanwhile on obbo, attempting to catch a nefarious female crime boss in the act.

After three violent deaths, the three separate storylines gradually converge as the Thursday Murder Club use their combined skills, charm and wide range of contacts to shed light on who are the good guys, who are the bad, and who are a bit of both.

Building upon the solid foundation of The Thursday Murder Club, the characterisations of the central quartet are quirky and sympathetic. The supporting cast, both returning characters and new, are also well-developed and intriguing.

The plot of The Man Who Died Twice is more complex and beguiling than that of its predecessor, and Richard Osman strikes a perfect balance between pathos, humour and intrigue. While I believe reading The Man Who Died Twice as a standalone would prove an entertaining and rewarding experience, I would strongly recommend reading in series order, for the sake of character development in particular.

I’d highly recommend The Man Who Died Twice to any reader who enjoys character-driven mysteries with a nice dollop of humour. It’s a delightful and engrossing read. A delightful whodunnit with an Agatha Christie vibe, what follows is the same plucky fun found in Osmans first novel in the series as the group must determine who can be trusted and which clues should be followed.

Osman does a great job of creating characters that bring joy as well as intrigue, reminding us of Jane and Joe Marples, as well as characters that are delightfully bad. This story deals with some themes, too, like revenge versus forgiveness; learning what and whom to trust; loyalty and friendship; and things arent always as they seem.

Fans of cozy mysteries and authors like Christie and Charlaine Harriss Aurora Teagarden (another true crime group) will love this story. The book, which is due out Sept. 28, does include occasional curse words, for those concerned about that.

I am really surprised that I enjoyed this book so much. I am not one to read historical fiction about men. I am more of WWII historical fiction with women hero’s. Needless to say I enjoyed the character of Jim Agnihotri, the fearless hero who is trying to solve the mystery death of 2 young women who jumped off the clock tower.

He is tall and tough, a war hero and was always getting into fights that left him in pain. You could feel his pain. There is also a love interest in Diana the sister of Parsee Adi Framji who hired Captain Jim to solve the mystery.

It was entertaining and fun to read.

I was excited to read this book and I was NOT disappointed! It’s fantastic with all the twists and turns; the characters are so well developed and interesting (important for the reader bc if one doesn’t like the main characters, then who cares to finish the tale!?) that it carries the plot.

Oh, and I felt that I learned a bit about the culture at the turn of the century too. Highly recommend.

“Persons Unknown” by Susie Steiner is the second book in the DS Manon series. This police procedural focuses more on the relationships between the characters and less on police activities. This book begins with Manon moving her family from London to Cambridgeshire so that her adopted son, who happens to be black, can live without being persecuted by the local police at every turn.

Her sister, Ellie and nephew Solly move with her. Manon is now solving cold cases rather than working as a homicide detective. The transition does not go as smoothly as planned, as Fly, Manon’s son, is not adjusting well to life away from familiar territory and friends.

Oh, and surprise, Manon is expecting. I, along with Fly, wonder why this sudden urge to procreate so soon after adopting Fly. Soon, this is the least of her worries. The victim of a local murder turns out to be none other than Ellie’s ex-husband and Solly’s father.

To make matters worse, Fly is the prime suspect. The ensuing story is Manon’s attempt to prove Fly’s innocence and find the true killer. Several nice twists and a good ending. Solid four stars. I have not read the first book in the series, “Missing, Presumed” but that in no way affected my enjoyment of this one.

Several key elements were reiterated so I did not feel like I had been left behind. I look forward to finding out what happens to Manon, Fly, Ellie, Solly and the other characters in future books. Brilliant author who has you on the edge of your seat. This is the 2nd in the Manon books and followed nicely on from the first. Manons circumstances have changed slightly which makes her even more interesting.

Funny, clever and gripping- I couldnt put it down. Highly recommend. Susie is a brilliant writer I cant wait for the next instalment.

Missing Presumed was the first in the series with DS Manon Bradshaw. Im really enjoying this book I cant put it down as each chapter reveals another piece of the investigation. Nearly finished it and hope theres another in the series soon.

All CJ Box books are great. This one is in the group. I have read them out of order, but it really doesn’t matter. They can stand on their own. Joe Pickett and his family are great characters. Joe follows the law and runs into resistance from civilians and law enforcement.

The Sheriff is corrupt and most of his dept. Deputy Reed can be depended on and Joe counts on him. Nate Romaneski is Joe’s friend even though Joe does not always agree with him. He is there when Joe needs him.

The Scarlett family is the center of the story along with J. W. Keeley. Joe is often described as the guy going “western” in dealing with civilians and lawman. Joe’s family is often in danger and he has to protect them at all cost.

Highly recommended book.

CJ Box another book that’s hard to put away. Actually I am reading this 1 now. I’m reading them in order and I assure you I haven’t been disappointed yet. Excellent read’s. Excellent Author. Highly Recommended.

You feel as though you know the characters.

I’ve bought 14 of his books and each one is hard to put down. I’m reading each of the Joe Pickett series in order. He’s a great character, and I just finished a story set in Yellowstone Park; fascinating details! I’ll be sorry when I get to the last book, then what? Highly recommended.

Enjoyed the book but there was not a lot of content to story. Everyone was perfect in talent, looks and personality. How could anything go wrong but it did. With all their money they solved everything.

The book is in great shape. The story line is predictable.It is a good plot but it has been told many times over in various ways. I like more of a twist and darker story line

Actually 3. 5 stars, IMO. I enjoy Christopher Moore’s books, period. However, I think he doesn’t quite hit the mark with this one. I sensed his having to work at both the noir style and his usual effortless lunacy.

(Moore fans will know what I mean. ) But it’s still Moore, and I continue to look forward to more of Moore.

Im a huge fan of Christopher Moore, so to find this recent work offered signed was a rush. The faux aging to the dust cover gives it a wonderful nostalgic aspect of a well-used favorite title, which is what it will become.

This was such a gripping book that I could not put it down and read it until I finished at 4am. It is so current, and very well written so that each chapter ending makes you need to continue. How does Michael Robotham create such amazing and memorable characters.

This was one of those books that makes you shiver with horror and disgust! It’s almost impossible to put down, and when you do, it keeps drawing you back. Robotham writes with such verved!

👍🏼 WHAT I LOVED: • EASILY MY MOST ALL TIME FAVOURITE THRILLER BOOKS! • An absolute roller coaster of a ride!! • This procedural investigation flows from the antagonist, to the victim, to the detectives- in this chaotic dark and twisted mystery.

• Well written and full of UNEXPECTED twists that I haven’t seen yet; I could NOT guess the ending at all, which is a first for me as well. • Even though it’s a 500 page book- it leaks sophistication, beautiful detail and plenty to keep the hooks digging in deeper with each page.

👎🏼 WHAT I DIDNT:• The ONLY thing I found difficult was the amount of characters involved- keeping up with the names, But I eventually caught on 😅 Do NOT let the 500 pages scare you. It’s doesn’t drag and there plenty of grotesque details.

I can not fault this book.

I read a lot of books & psychological thrillers are my favorite genre. I found this book while researching for a new book to read. I took a chance on it & was not let down. It is a fast paced, nail biting thrill ride from start to finish.

The plot is genius & the story itself original. It also had a very satisfying end. For a debut novel the author wrote something with a definite wow factor. I loved it. I don’t want to give anything away so I will stop here and say ‘Just read it.
