20 Best Tool For Cutting Foam (2023 Updated)

I thought this would help me make detailed cuts though the pick and pluck foam often found in Pelican transport cases, but that did not work. It did not seem to get hot enough to cut and only melted.

May have been the wrong type of foam though, perhaps would work better for craft foam cutting.

The tool heated up quickly and was great to have three different tips. The tool seems to be pretty delicate, probably easy to break, but it worked fine. I would like to see a wire scooping loop for cutting out spherical shapes.

This product didn’t work for me. The only thing that works in this set on 1″ Polystyrene foam is the engraving tool. The other attachments cut too slow or don’t work at all. My advice is to buy top rated high quality proven products.

Spend the money on a good table and high end tools.

I am a photographer and enter my work in numerous competitions. I do all my printing and matting. The foam board cutter and channel rail work great. The 2 items work better than expected for the price.

This cutter gets the job done. Integrates with the FoamWerks Channel Rail for a very precise cut. Would be nice if there was a longer version of the Channel Rail for larger cuts, perhaps 40. But for a simple foam board cutting solution this cutter works well.

The cutting tool is okay and seems to get the job done with a few swipes along a straight edge and a lot of downward pressure. the cutter itself is plastic and not of high quality although for the price it seems a good value.

It takes a lot of downward pressure to make the cut, and more than one swipe is needed. I like the channel system this cutter uses, and also bought the channelized straightedge which is of excellent quality.

The two items used together make straight cutting easier than using a straightedge without the channel.

I’ve been cutting foam with an electric knife. certainly, the Acu cutter foam cutter is a real step above and seemed to cut easily and straight. I would recommend this product for anyone making cushions who need to cut their foam to specifications.

I work in a gallery & have acquired the skill of cutting foam core in a bevel fashion free-hand. However, doing so takes A LOT of time which I simply do not have these days. My co-worker had me prepare a few pieces of beveled foam core for descriptions of the work in the current show so we could mount them on the wall for patrons edification.

Well, they fell down within minutes, due to the weight & the fact that she used double sided tape instead of something stronger to adhere them to the wall. The beveled edges were destroyed & I did not have 45 minutes to dedicate to this project AGAIN.

This is very effective for cutting foam board. Before, I was using a utility knife to cut my foam board, and the ergonomics of this cutter makes that task a lot easier and safer. If you’re looking for a cost effective cutter, I would highly recommend this cutter.

Excellent tool for cutting foam board parts for RC airplanes. Vertical edges are nice and square and match up with balsa trailing edge pieces. Much safer to use than open knives or Exacto blades.

The machine came quickly. Well packed fully intact. The instructions are in far eastern language only but the picture instruction was adequate to build the unit. Once set up and connected to supply switch on and start off about 9 to 10 on the led display.

Made hot rod car in about 5 mins from scrap packing from the delivery box. Tool required for building a screwdriver Phillips No 2. Have fun.

It came on time and it works good. The cut is clean, no mess around and all of us have some fun using it. This is not the only vevor product that I have purchased, I am happy with their products and I feel confident to buy to them, so I recomend it.

Super item and works perfectly for cutting Perspex, I used it on 5mm with no issues! Just score it as many times as you feel comfortable and then give even pressure on the score line to break, simple and effective.

As I will always say, you cannot have too many tools!.

It does its job, but it doesn’t work well with 1/4″ thick acrylic. This is okay for 1/16″, maybe 1/8″ thick material, but if you use it on thick material, it’ll take you forever and you won’t get an evenly cut edge.

It is a simple robust feeling design which does take a little while to get used to but does the job well enough. For a hobbyist it seems to be a lot of money for what it is and replacement blades are not cheap either.

This is a simple and effective tool. Cuts clean every time. Fast and accurate. I might even pick up the 2″ version for the occasional need.

Straight cuts? Most of the time, but if the blade gets the slightest bit off the cut will be 1/4″ out of square. Found that it works well with new foamcore pipe, but if the pipe is a few weeks old the cutter is much harder to turn.

When the cutter is brand new and works perfectly, it’s still just okay. All in all, it’s much faster to use a PVC saw and clean up the edges with a DEB-4 tool. Would I recommend? No. I wish I had my money back.

I purchased a 10″ 80 tooth Amana blade for my table saw. The specific project was a built-in book case made mostly from veneer plywood. Chipping was a problem. The Amana blade completely eliminated the chipping problem and gave me a clean, smooth finish cut.

I highly recommend this blade for any cabinet shop using veneer plywood for base carcass.

This tool works well. It has the length that i needed to cut deep pockets.

They are kind of cheap. I bought this for a project for school and they were useless. I’m not really sure how this brand thought cheap plastic utensils were good for cutting floral foam.

I tried this set out for kicks, and its performance matches the low price tag. The knife is sturdier than the plastic cutlery you have leftover from that last cookout, but cuts the same. The file is dreadful (high mess, leaves some foams more ragged than when you started), and while the detail tool is nice I won’t be setting my $3 steel tool aside anytime soon.

Works in a pinch, but if you’re looking for something to use on the regular, drop the dime on metal tools and some sanding sponges.

I bought these to help my son with his California Mission project for school. He opted to try for the higher grade and build his mission from scratch instead of using a kit so off to Michael’s we went.

I didn’t want him using an exacto-knife and this seemed like a good solution. The knife cuts fine but the file almost makes a bigger mess than it’s worth. We cut a doorway out and even after filing, the edges are rough.

I haven’t used the stylus/detail tool yet.

You need to slide and hold a button to keep the wire heated, your finger gets tired and the element stops heating in the middle of slicing through. The screw to tighten the wire snap off so I could not longer tighten the wire any more.

Finally the the wire broke. All said, I probably got about 10 feet of cutting through foam on my model project with this tool.

I got this to cut insulation foam panels from a home improvement store into fake distressed boards for Halloween. It worked great for this, much better than the hot knife and hot wand I tried. Cuts through foam quickly with little to no issues.

Tool held up great, no issues and I created many boards. Tool was very easy to use. Would highly recommend for any Halloween enthusiast.

I am having trouble with the machine. Do not know if it’s the cord or if it’s the handle where you connect the cord. Please help I still do not have a message of what can I do with my machine. I bought the machine , received on time, but when tested the handle where you installed the cord is broken and does not let my machine work.

First time using this product. I didn’t know what to expect in the way of results. I was using the hot knife to cut polyburlap mesh with the expectation of getting straight lines. Using a pair of scissors is not the way to go if you want straight lines and a rotary cutter you wouldn’t be able yo hold the polyburlap mesh still in order to cut a straight line.

The knife blade is basically the same as an Exacti knife blade, it’s adequate, however the blade on a wood burner is a bit more sturdy and I believe wouldn’t dull as quickly as the blade on the hot knife.

It still got the job done.

I bought this product while working on set designs for a local theatre production. I needed something that would give a clean, smooth cut in foam board. The designs I needed to cut were intricate in some places and it worked like a charm.

This hot knife was only available in my store in a wood burning kit, so I bought it thinking I’d have little or no use for the other tips in the kit. Well I ended up finding them useful for other projects, including making additional holes in a belt for a friend who had lost weight but loved the belt and wanted to still wear it.

Very handy tool to have around! The only drawback I experienced is the heat adjustment dial on the cord is a little heavy and would pull it off my work table when I let it dangle unless I secured it with something.

It comes with a rest stand, but it is fairly lightweight. I work at an elevated table, so maybe if working at a lower table my problem would have been minimized. Completely fixable inconvenience, but loved its usefulness.

I can see many other uses for this product other than its intended. Just remember when using, when you reach for it stay behind the heat guard grip, it gets really hot when turned all the way up. I was tempted when not paying attention to grab it closer to the end, like I would an Exacto knife.

But that’s me, easily distracted! LOL!.

Don’t have the patience or the time to waste. Already have one but couldn’t readily find it so I got another. Not enough heat is transferred to the tip so you have to use the full length and girth of the blade.

I need something faster. Guess I’ll be looking around for a better one.

This Slice Safety Cutter is a useful tool to have around for opening packages. I like that there is the option of adding a keychain and a built-in magnet, so there are multiple places it can be kept easily.

While it is more finger friendly than other utility cutters or scissors, it is still sharp and can still cut through skin. I wish there was a cover or something to protect the blade when not in use. I wouldn’t put this on a keychain and keep it in my pocket or purse.

It is also slightly scary to just toss it into a junk drawer because the blade is so small and might be hard for other people to see or realize it is there when reaching into the drawer. The safety cutter is useful for cutting blister packs which are probably one of the most dangerous and annoying to open.

I think it is important to note that you should have the entire cutter flush against the surface being cut and not at an angle. This is a good tool to have around.

This little gadget works great for my needs. I love how “safe” the ceramic blade is. I tend to be clumsy and uncoordinated so it works out great. Like many of you probably looking at this product and reading this review, I am addicted to shopping on Amazon and therefore have a mountain of boxes at my doorstep frequently.

It cuts through the tape on boxes with ease. I’ve tested it on envelopes and other types of simple packaging- it works well and is sharp. I don’t think this would suffice for any heavy duty breaking down of boxes in bulk, if that’s a regular task for you.

I would imagine you’d need something larger and ergonomic. My only concern is I wonder if the ceramic blade will ever get dull or unusable. I know the description says it won’t but ya never know! But for now, it does the job – no more using scissors to open packages!.

Let me say first that the saw is awesome! However, the first one I received had major issues with the blades being bent, and it being shipped in a flimsy cardboard box resulted in the case being dented.

The customer service was impeccable, and helped me swiftly. Another however later, the second saw is super amazing and works like a dream let me just reiterate that, the shipping in a flimsy cardboard box comes into play again!
