20 Best Sump Pump For Hot Tub (2023 Updated)

Upgraded from a pump of the same horsepower and construction, but with a tethered float switch. The new Superior Pump is performing well.

I bought this pump to fit in a 5 gallon bucket with holes drilled in the sides and top to remove standing water from my patio. It pumps a bunch of water fast. Worked great until the pea gravel worked its way into the pump, which tripped the breaker, but no damage to the pump.

Re configured my bucket /well to keep out the gravel. works great. One tough pump. Arrived quick, and works great. I really like the vertical on/off switch.

This was a rush purchase as my last pump failed and thanks to an alarm in the pit, I was notified before any major flooding. I got it due to the reviews saying it is quiet. I removed my old pump which just hummed with out pumping any water and put this one in.

It works very well, but does vibrate in the pit and makes a loud humming noise. I tried covering the pit and tightening everything, but no luck. It isn’t really loud, but can be heard through out the house.

Got it on sale so was happy about that. I will keep for now, but will replace with a quieter one later, likely a cast iron one. My last pump lasted 11 years. This one will make a good spare in case of failure.

Works very well. Was getting water in my window well during the spring flooding so bought this pump, placed it in a plastic bucket with holes drilled through. dug it down into the window well. It removed the water efficiently and I didn’t have to worry about water potentially running in the window during the middle of the night.

Used it for a month until the ground thawed enough to build up the foundation! Although an expensive pump it worked beautifully!.

Pump is next to useless. It is too light and must be weighed down to keep it from bobbing up and tipping over. You do not discover this until you unpack the pump, and see the instructions to “. secure it to the bottom of the pit”.

Try doing that unless the pit is bone dry, and even then you better have arms 3 feet long or more. Also, the guide for the float is very short, which means the pump kicks in far too often, with pumping cycles as short as one minute.

Beware of clearance deals at Rona. Bought the pump and opened the box to find the pump had been used and was seized up. Had water line on metal where it had been sitting in water previously. Someone had taped the box up and put it back on the shelf.

my driveway is sloped towards the house. Each spring the snow melts and floods the car port ! I sunk a pit into the ground and use this flotec pump , adapter and rubber garden hose to pump it to the street and down the block to the sewer.

The pump is plugged into my vehicle timer plug AC outlet. The float shuts off the pump when the water is below the pump to prevent damage to it. The timer shuts off power to the pump when melting at night doesn’t occur.

All works very well unattended and the pump moves the water quick enough to prevent flooding. This is my second Flotec pump in 10 years of use. The first one had a failure recently of the motor capacitor and was replaced with this one.

My pump has been in use for almost 4 years with no malfunctions; no problems at all. Matter of fact, this afternoon I cleaned up my sump tank and my Flotec FPZS33T. Once done, I ran it through several ‘test’ cycles with no issues.

If I had to pick on one item it would be that the float be made more adjustable as to when the pump turns on. I would prefer my pump started at a lower water level; guess it makes one “scary” when you see the sump almost full and you are anxiously waiting for the pump to start.

Yes, I would definitely buy this pump again.

Original Little Giant installed by builder in 2012. Ten years of heavy use. During wet times it may pause for 10-15 seconds before water level kicks it back on. After 10 years I didnt want to risk a failure so replaced it with same model.

Nice that engineers didnt change the dimensions. Made an easy change-out for this 71 year old. Cleaned the old one and keeping it as a spare.

I purchased one of these pumps. Over the last year it was used but not a lot. The last time I plugged it in I happened to stick my hand in the water where it was sitting and I got myself electrocuted.

There is a short in this pump and I have no idea why. Also this pump has an air tube that runs in the cord. I have always made very sure that this tube was never bend or clogged with anything. Upon reading more into the reviews for this pump I found out I am not the only one this happened to.

Sad because it was a good little pump. while it lasted. I can’t be buying one every year though.

Have a friend who runs a plumbing business. His experience tells him Zoeller is the best out there. When we moved to Indiana it was still running after more than 15 years. Bought this one for a solid dependable backup.

Simple grey water application failed in 3 months. Zoeller said, “It sounds like the application is not what is causing the pump to malfunction. ” and yet Zoeller will not honor the warranty if purchased off of eBay.

Seller is not “authorized” dealer. Ensure you buy from an authorized dealer. Zoeller is in NO hurry to do the right thing. Ensure you have a tight case against them before you even buy one. Or just buy a different brand who will stand behind their product.

I’m flabbergasted! They shipped my 25+ pound sump pump in its original box, without any additional protection, and needless to say, when it arrived, it was pretty much destroyed! The power cord was severed through in two spots and the plug itself was crushed flat! I’m pretty confident that based upon the external damage, the pump itself is probably non-functioning too! Wow! I find it hard to believe how some people manage to stay in business when I see something like this happen!.

I had purchased a second Zoeller M98 as a backup then shortly afterward, the primary stopped working just past the 3-year warranty. I contacted the company (correspondence with Nick F. ) who initially asked for detail and, after supplied, never heard from him again.

My secondary M98 then became the primary and I purchased an iON StormPro 3/4 HP as a backup. Now a little more than 3 years again and just out of warranty the Zoeller M98 is once again in need of replacement.

(Based on my research, mine seemed to have capacitor failure so motor will only spin at a very low RPM). To be fair, the pump does get reasonable usage as the water table is only a few feet below my basement floor and heavy rains engage the sump pump.

However, prior, I have had twice the service life out of big box cheap products for 1/3 of the price. I am looking again (probably will be iON again) but the replacement will not be a Zoeller based on their lack of service and price/longevity, I would not recommend.

I’m a DYI’er and this is my first N98 installation that I paired with the LevelGuard Solid State Switch and Zoeller Quiet Check Valve. This N98 replaced a 12 year old M98 Zoeller. Nothing wrong with the M98 but with the thaw coming coupled with Spring rains, I wanted to have no concerns of a switch failure at bad time.

I’m going to replace the M98’s switch and keep that pump in reserve as a ready backup. After 12 years of great performance, it was time for new equipment. Installation went well and the pump now cycles about every 2 hours (slow snow melt near my foundation).

The LevelGuard switch works great as it doesn’t trip until the water level rises to about 8 inches from the top of the sump basin. The pump fires the water out in about 6-7 seconds. This results in the pump cycling VERY infrequently which is a very good thing that lessens wear and tear on the pump.

The Zoeller Quite check valve works great–it fixed the “water hammer” issue I had. no water hammer now. I’ve owned Zoeller pumps for over 30 years. They are the only ones I’ll install either in my own home or at my kid’s homes.

Working well so far. I have owned this pump before and the pump motor has never been the problem. The problem I had time and again is with the activation switch. I was able to request, and received 2 switches on my last sump from the manufacturer.

However, they told me at that time, I wouldnt be able to ask for anymore after that. Im hoping that they replaced an obvious problem switch, for a better one on these newer pumps. What happens is that when the switch fails, it will keep the pump running after all water has been pumped out of the sump hole.

If left running for a long time the pump will burn out. You can lightly tap the switch housing to make the switch release, but it will continue to happen more often until its unusable. I had a very cheap, but popular brand pump when I bought my house, and never had a lick of problems for 16 years.

So I know they can do better on providing a better switch! By the way, a switch is about $60 for this pump, which puts you close to the price of a dependable low cost one. If the switch goes bad, it will be within 1-2 years, which I will be certain to update my review if it craps out.

This is my second pump in under two years. Same one I replaced originally. I will say to get it replaced was pretty easy. Unfortunately, because of the way the wiring was ran, I ended up replacing the entire wiring underground.

I still haven’t installed the pump because I need to replace the valve, as recommended by everyone I spoke with. Of course finding the replacement valve was a chore. When it arrives I will get the system up and running.

As for the pump, if you read the life of most pumps is only 5 to 7 years. That said, I’d love to get a pump that could last a lot longer. Time will tell. Would I recommend this pump? It works and the people are extremely nice.

If it goes out again I’ll have to see how things are going.

Needed a new sump pump for my garage and picked this bad boy up about 7 months ago – in the winter The pit is slightly below ground level and with the foundation the vertical rise is about 4. 5 feet with a total of about 10 feet of 1.

5 inch PVC pipe including 2 90 degree elbows and a check valve to go through. In the late winter and early spring the pit gets a lot of water and probably comes on for about 10-20 seconds every 5-10 minutes.

At first I was concerned that the frequent cycling would wear this pump out quick because my old pump didn’t cycle that often, but also didn’t keep the water level low enough and that’s the reason for the new pump.

This pump has proven to be a champ without one issue. The built in float works very well at keeping the water level down no matter how quickly rainwater or underground water flow might be. As for construction it seems very solid-cast iron and is fairly heavy at 23 pounds.

It is also surprisingly quiet. If I’m not standing next to it I have to check to see if there is water being discharged to tell if its running. I would buy this pump again in a heart beat.

I use the Liberty ⅓ hp for all my sump pumps (3 of them, plus backups). The hardest-working pump is in a shallow well to catch underground water before it reaches the drain tile around the foundation footing.

Another pump sends water to top up my pond from time to time, and the third one takes care of water in the inside sump. The water table around here is just above the level of my basement floor so I can’t take any chances.

One thing I noticed after replacing another brand with the Liberty pump is that it is completely silent when operating. Nice change!.

A good value, and one of the better 3/4 HP options available at this price. We are using this during new construction and it gets heavy use due to high frequency discharge and more than 100′ to daylight with a 14′ rise.

The mechanical float switch is plastic, and we prefer non-mechanical switches in almost all cases because of the high failure rate of mechanical switches. However, this is suitable for jobsite drainage or as a back-up pump based on its performance so far.

I had a 1/2 Flowtec that failed 7 months into the warranty period. My local Ace didn’t have another in stock and allowed me to upgrade to the 3/4 hp model. The install was easy like the last one I did actually read the directions and drilled a weep hole on the discharge hose and it eliminated the burp effect I would get on the other pump.

This is a beast, no problem clearing the water from the sump! My only fear is the float doesn’t fail like the last one. Overall the pump seems well built, save your receipt as when I called flowtec even though I registered online they had no record of it and said they only go by receipts to verify purchase and warranty eligibility.

Easy to install and works like a work horse! No noise and price was much better than anywhere I looked. Good luck

THE GOOD: Great, heavy cast-iron, well balanced sump pump. Quiet as a church mouse. Assembled in the USA. Removes water quickly. THE BAD: Requires check valve which is not included. If a problem arises, and it’s due to not installing the (optional) check valve, the damage will NOT be covered!!! THE UGLY: Instructions were vague in the MOST IMPORTANT AREA.

Total lack of information as to how to secure the VERTICLE FLOAT SWITCH so that the vertical float does not become a HORIZONAL FLOAT and not only, not, turn the pump on but, also, become a floating horizontal nothing.

WHY ON EARTH DO THEY NOT SHOW ANYTHING REGARDING THE SECURING OF THIS FLOAT THAT TURNS THE PUMP ON & OFF???? SIX WASTED HOURS OF TIME UNTIL I FIGURED IT OUT MYSELF!!!! I heard the WAYNE brand is the BEST.

Just fix the manual that comes with the darned pump PLEASE. Folks, the vertical float has to be secured by attaching the rubber tag/flag hanging from the float to the plastic “hook” located on the pump directly to the bottom front of the pump.

I am not a “technical” writer. I’m just trying to save some people some blood, sweat and tears.

Had a power outage that lasted for 12 hours. Sump well was full. When the power came back, the well was drained only halfway. The water looked like it was boiling as the pump continued to run. I found that the PVC coupling had cracked at the pump housing, and the pump effluent was mostly staying in the well.

It was a Wayne CDU800 – the same thing I replaced it with. The problem was that the housing threads at the PVC interface had corroded since there was nothing to prevent water contact at those threads.

Pump kept running, though! Now with the new pump and PVC, things are back to good.

Pump was easy to install and it operates just fine. Only issue is that one cannot adjust the float for when to turn on. My sump is lined with stone and there is a metal plate on top of the stone. The pump activates when the water level is just below the bottom of the drain tile.

Again, thats ok except I have a Glentronics Pro Series 2400 battery backup pump with a float switch that mounts to the discharge line. I was able to adjust the float switch to turn on when the water level is just above the bottom of the drain tile.

I would have liked to have it trip when the water level was 1/2 inch below the tile but that is too close the the Wane pumps start position. Thats the only con. I am satisfied with the pump.

I bought this pump four years ago from Rural King and it has done a great job over that time. Last week we got flooded on Christmas Eve into Christmas Day and the four-year-old pump moved about 200,000 to 300,000 gallons of water out of our basement.

It ran continuously for 20 hours (100,000 gallons) and intermittently for days after. When the basement isn’t flooding, the pump gets a daily dose of salt water from our water softener system. The pump is not meant for that, but it it has handled it fine.

The more expensive, lower capacity 1/3 HP Zoeller pump was a rusted piece of junk that failed after 2 years. I’m buying another of these Wayne 1/2 HP pumps as a backup for when the first one eventually fails.

I had to buy two of these for my house recently. My sump went out, then my septic lift station pump. Relative to the other pumps, this is the right price for a cast iron housing rather than a cheap plastic housing pump.

The true test is the longevity of these pump. In looking at the spec sheet, these come with a 3 year warranty but are rated for a 6 year life expectancy. This is not specific to these pumps, just the nature of it.

Even pumps with the longer warranty typically have a 6 year life expectancy. So this one is a good value for what you get, IMHO.

I bought this pump to replace a Wayne pump that was 11 years old. The last pump provided great service for the entire time and this pump being a direct replacement, the installation took only a few minutes.

The pump has run almost every day since being installed 8 months ago and would recommend this pump.

This may have been because the wiring was not adequate for 3/4 horse motors. I felt that after examination that the only real difference in these pumps and the more expensive ones were actually the motor housings.

These are stainless and others were cast iron. I am satisfied that these pumps will last. Unable to hear them run when I am inside the house. Just make sure you are using the correct wire!.

The Zoeller N98 with the electronic Hydro-check proximity switch is a winning combination for my needs. The on cycle has a very wide adjustment range and allows the pit to fill to a much higher level before activating the pump.

Fewer on cycles should lengthen overall pump life. The 1/2 HP pump is more than adequate to drain the pit quickly avoiding potential overrun. It is quiet and powerful. I am pleased with my choice and highly recommend it for similar applications.

I needed to replace an old Flotec that stopped working. The old one had been discontinued and this was the recommended replacement. The out flow valve has changed from a male connection to a female connection.

Once I found an adapter it seems to work fine.

Very reliable, it’s the second I had purchased, running for close to 5 years with absolutely no issues. The one before lasted almost 8 years, just needed to replace the float switch once.

This Flotec pump was purchased to replace an older model Flotec the lasted 10 years in servicing a medium-large pond and waterfall. With the same power and output specs this Flotec is more compact by 25 or30 per cent.

Also, though not shown in the picture, the float switch is actually on it’s own power cord and is completely detachable which is helpful as it is not needed in the pond and waterfall application.

Zoeller pumps came highly recommended. Tho cast iron it was significantly lighter weight than the pump it replaced. No idea if it also was a Zoeller; hopefully not, since it only lasted about 3 years.

But it was definitely heavier and stood firm as it pumped. Hopefully this new pump will also stand firm and last longer than 3 years but not very confident yet.

Pump only worked for one week the had a float switch issue and flooded my basement. I would not recommend to a friend

Very good value over the big box stores

I bought this for an old houseboat that needed to be bilged out with every rain storm. Several other boat owners suggested I get a sump pump instead as it would last longer and was able to pump a larger amount in a shorter amount of time.

I had 3 different choices at the store, I explained it was for my boat and was told to get the model with the auto on/ off. I was very pleased, as I had been doing this manually. He said as soon as the water moved the bulb end it would turn on.

That was totally false, the bulb must float straight up before engaging, approx. 3 ft of water. In the boat, it would almost have to be underwater in order for it to engage. When I took it out of the box,it had seals on it which said it could NOT be returned to the store(as clerk said), only back to factory.

So, I still need to manually go to the boat and lift the bulb up in order to expel the water. It does expel a large volume in a short amount of time and operates very well. But I must travel to the marina every time it rains as the automatic feature is only applicable if used strictly as a basement sump pump down in an enclosed area that would allow it to be activated by deeper water than allowed in the back of a boat.

I asked many questions and relayed in detail my situation, the clerk appeared ro be very knowledgeable and assured me this was the perfect solution for what I needed. I have always trusted the clerks at Harbor Freight, but I won’t buy anything without getting someone to go with me, if I’m not knowledgable from now on.

I definitely lost confidence on this one.

It’s a sump pump. It pumps quickly and quietly. Use a 1 way check valve and its cheap enough to keep a new one on shelf as backup. Better yet. live somewhere really wet? Have this cheap pump as backup to a more durable one.

Drain your boat, hot tub or pool (with enough time) with this lil guy. I keep one on my service truck at all times because I install them permanently or temporarily often.

I purchased this thinking I would get a one or two time use out of it. I was wrong. This thing emptied our 26,000 gallon pool so we could do repairs to the pool. It never overheated, nor did heat up the extension cord.

Pumped the water back in with it too. Use it for a pool waterfall, does that well too. Had it well over a year now, maybe two. This pump does a damn good job at whatever you throw at it. At a price that is half of the big name brand with just as good of quality (or better), it has proven to be extremely durable and perfect for what I use it for.

Works great, exactly what I needed, not a five star because I wanted it to go off more frequently and there was not an option to lower the mechanism. I put a simple plumber ring and tightened it half way down the pole (so the ball hots it sooner) and works perfect for my needs.

This feature would be useful however.

Easy to install and has been working great since installation 2 months ago. My basement has a constant water level that causes the machine to discharge every hour, so it has proven to be reliable so far.

Works extremely well! Keeps up with heavy rainfall no problem at all. When it flushes all you hear is a quick gush of the water. ! Very happy with this sump pump & highly recommend it!!

1- This pump base is made of cast iron and the body is made of rolled steel (however, the impeller is made of Glass Reinforced Polycarbonate, which is a tough plastic). This makes the pump heavier than some similarly rated Thermoplastic models from other manufacturers.

2- Added CDT50 weight keeps the pump more stable in the sump canister preventing its lateral movement, and it also keeps it much quieter than other sump pumps during its operation. 3- Having s steel motor casing instead of thermoplastic casing, improves the heat exchange between the motor and sump water, which results in improved life expectancy.

In general, a motor running cooler, lasts longer.

Replaced a 10 year old 1/3 hp Wayne sump-pump with a new Wayne 1/2 hp. I would have given 5 stars but when I got the 1/3 hp it had a convoluted water sensor float instead of a regular float that caused me more trouble than 1 person should ever have to go through along with a lot of wasted time and money to fix it.

Wayne made a great decision to lose the water sensor float idea. I made the decision to replace the pump because it’s recommended to replace a sump-pump after 5 years. I’m a little late, but the Wayne never let me down.

If the pump doesn’t work, my basement floods it’s that simple. The 1/3 pump still works like new and I’ll keep it for a backup. Highly recommended.

Replaced a 10 year old pump. That pump had the standard float on the side of the pump. This is one is much better. With the tether it does not cycle as much. With winter thaw and spring rains here in Michigan the old one was cycling otter.

I had priced the pump locally and this was the better price. Been in service for a month with no problems.

Only had this unit for 8 months, and during my daily sump pit check heard it running but sounding weird. Luckily, I have a second pump already installed so it took over while I removed this one to troubleshoot.

I disassembled it thinking debris was inside. Nothing found and when testing in the laundry tub, it was unable to pump water out of the outflow port. Nothing was in the port at this time. The pump basically died.

Sad, considering the price.

Plastic base is easily damaged during shipping as mine was. Not exactly an easy fix as this motor is oil filled/cooled. To replace the broken base the motor must come apart and the oil will come out.

Ask me how I know?.

There’s nothing glamorous about changing a sump pump. We bought this house which came with one, but nobody knew how old the pump was so I decided to replace it just to be sure. I also bought the Flotec battery backup pump to go with it.

It is very easy to install if you’re okay with playing with ABS piping (which is nothing magical). It is much quieter than the previous pump. Make sure to read the instructions and drill the 1/8″ hole in the pipe as instructed.

And with the secondary battery backup pump, I can sleep better at night knowing that a failure of the primary won’t flood my basement and give me time to react.

I bought one of these at least 5 years ago. In the winter, my water table is at the surface. I have a fairly large dirt pit around 5 feet deep I keep pumped out. In NW Oregon, we get a lot of rain plus water coming into the pit thru the sides.

This pump runs many times a day, every day all winter and spring and has out lasted any other pump I have owned. To keep the pump from cycling a lot, I have it on a timer, so sometimes it is sitting under a couple of feet of water.

On 5-14-22 I finally had a problem with it. The float switch went out. I found an exact replacement on Amazon for $30 made by Superior Pump. It came with a different mount. I took it off and used the aluminum mount I got with the pump.

The screw holes on the bottom of the switch exactly matched the ones on the Drummond. In every way the replacement was identical to the original. The switches are well made and are normally water tight.

They use magnets to move a lever inside the switch housing to turn the switch on and off. Still, after over 5 years, this year, mine did get a little water in it which destroyed the switch. Nothing lasts for ever, so when this one goes out, I will buy another.

I don’t know if these actually pump 4000 gph 6ft high or not, but I do know, it can move a lot of water very fast.

Well as the title says I did buy it again. This is improved electrically where the wiring between switch and motor is contained on or in the motor. The old one was the two cable where the switch plugged into the power socket and the motor plugged into the switch socket.

Given the space constraints the old style couldn’t be fitted inside an exposed box with a rain cover, so it took some modification of the switch plug to hard wire it to the outlet. This new one only uses one cord and plug which does fit inside the weather cover of the outlet making life for use in outdoor weather protected outlets a bunch easier.

Purchased for my parents estate. The buyer was concerned about the basement despite having no water in there in over 30 years. I purchased this as an option since I will soon no longer have anything to do with the property.

This seemed like a great alternative to the larger home repair stores where the prices started $20-$30 higher and kept climbing. For a basement that hasn’t seen water in years, this will probably rust before it sees any action.

I did test it a few times and it pumped like a champ!.
