20 Best Spin Down Sediment Water Filter (2023 Updated)

We bought this filter to install in front of the pump that provides water from Lake Huron to our home. We were having problems with tiny pieces of grit interfering with our jet pump. It works very well and saves downstream filters from plugging up as fast.

Only thing we changed was that we changed the filtration to 100 micron to allow longer cleaning intervals. It should just come with two screens because you have to have a clean one to install in order to remove and clean the one in use.

It wasn’t very long before we made sure we had two screens.

Installed a month ago in hot water line to catch scale from by tankless heater using unsoftened water. Pleasingly solid construction and easy to install on the wall-mount that came with it. Well designed – freely rotating drain valve is easy to work.

Not noticed any loss in hot water pressure (1/2 inch line), but visibly catching ‘grit’ that was previously clogging up aerators, shower heads and washer inlet. Have not needed to remove the bowl to clean out – just opening the drain valve is enough.

(Less messy if you turn the feed off and just let the static pressure in the pipes blow it out. ) Would definitely recommend and buy again if I needed another.

very easy install. I wasn’t sure if I needed this, but I added it anyways. It doesn’t seem to catch anything, but my assumption is that with the municipal water supply, I probably didn’t need it. I felt by pacing it in front of the other whole house filters, it would stop any larger particles from clogging them.

A screen in the 20-30 micron range might be better in my situation.

Filter works fine at 60 mesh removing sediment but the extreme iron in our water builds on both the filter mesh, polyester, and the clear polycarbonate “see-through” body. After running for 3 yrs now it is almost totally opaque and cannot be cleaned even soaking in “iron out”.

However, with only about a half hour soak the Polyester mesh screen comes clean as new. that is the most important thing. The only thing they could improve would be to put some sort of non-stick coating on the inside of the filter bowl so rust does not adhere.

At $50+ though it is overpriced already.

This filter is AWESOME. I bought 2. 1 for water from my well to the pressure tank and one from the pressure tank to the house. Added quick disconnects for future change outs to filters if ever needing to be replaced.

VERY HAPPY, VERY EASY TO INSTALL! No more leaky gaskets to deal with from the Twist II cleaner nor broken safety latches.

I got great help from customer service in getting what I needed since I was trying to replace a current filter. It turned out that I didn’t need the connecting part that would be the most difficult to install (through no fault of theirs), and the installation of the rest was really easy! And the release/cleaning valve at the bottom is much better than what I was replacing.

The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is that I have no way to judge how well it will filter, but assuming that works well, this is a simple and efficient little filter.

Must say ordering process was seamless no hiccups however with the pandemic still showing it’s ugly head shipping was a tad slow which is completely understandable. Product description was very accurate as well the young lady I spoke with to confirm my choice.

This product does the job right. If I were to buy again, I would opt for a bigger unit so I don’t have to rinse filter as often due to the size of the one I chose. But it really depends on the water and the need.

I have been using Rusco shot water spin down filter with sediment trap. And stainless filter in line after my tankless hot water heater. It has performed flawlessly and kept the particles out of my system for years ,Rusco referred me to a company to get new o rings that I keep just in case but so far have not needed , I have used silicone grease from pool supply to lube the o rings.

Once a year I drop the housing to access the filter inside to clean. And the spin down has been easy to clear at base of filter housing. I can tell you how much debris this filter system has kept out of my sink traps and toilets its a lot , I never have any issues with debris.

My poor mom has been dealing with well water and tiny rocks clogging the inlet washer filter (screened) on her washing machine for years. Installed this awesome spin-down filter with a much smaller mesh than the inline filter she was using and what a difference it has made! She could not be happier! No more taking the supply hoses off to clean the screen filter anymore! Just open the gate valve to clean the spin-down filter and we’re good to go for months!.

Perfect pre-filter for your tankless water heater. Filters down to 1 micron. Helps with bi-yearly tankless flush. Hardly to no sediment found in flushing solution. Filter works as it suggests. Very pleased with Fresh water systems.

Our water had a iron smell and was on the rusty side leaving stains on our toilets and sinks. After we installed the Culligan Sediment Filter it was a major improvement. We truly enjoy out well water now and being very inexpensive it saved us on having to install a water softener.

I bought two of them for the whole house, to filter out chlorine. I’ve used culligan filter housings for years. They are well constructed and waranteed for 5 years. I’ve never had a problem with any of them.

I bought this to use with my camper. There is a camp ground I go to that gets a brown tinge in the water, they say it’s safe but I don’t want sediment in my water lines or hot water heater, and I always use bottled water for drinking and cooking.

This did a little better job than the smaller filters designed for RV use, but it is a bit large taking up storage space. You also have to come up with a way to keep it upright which I have done. No issues with leaks from the fittings myself.

This is our 2nd filter in 10 yrs & would not go without given our hard water. It’s important to flush your system every other week to keep it working as expected. It also has helped reduce our sulfur smell.

The filter system itself is excellent. All right, myself, ordered a screen element for it that was too fine. (5 micron). And I order a replacement element for it that is a 15 micron?

I ordered a 2″ filter head, bushed down to my 1 1/4 line size to keep volume up. The filter works well separating sand, but when I opened the drain for the first time to remove sand, the plastic filter support broke from the volume/pressure of the water.

I bushed the discharge down to reduce flow and fabbed a metal support. it works well now. I would suggest restricting the discharge with a bushing of some type to reduce the hit on the support when you open the drain valve.

I may try another plastic support with this bushing in place.

We have used these several times for tankless heaters that have fouling problems with their built in strainers. The high temp allows for hot recirc or space heating applications. The Rusco makes it easy to see the condition of the element and servicing when it needs it is easy too.

We use the 100 micron strainer element which is finer than those in the tankless units and that keeps the flow rate through the heater at optimum volume. Fresh water got the order placed, processed and shipped quickly and it arrived when they projected.

When trying to set up for installation i inserted threaded connectors into both sides (inlet and outlet). Started both with my fingers, then used a wrench to snug them up. At this point the outlet side worked properly, but the connector for the inlet side began to tilt as i tightened it.

I dont know the exact problem but it has made the unit completely ruined and useless. I would buy a different model or a different manufacturer but this is the only one i could find that was rated for hot water.

I was experiencing problems with the water intake filter on our dishwasher. The tankless water heater we have manufactures hard water particles which regularly clog the filter screen. This filter in the hot water line solves the problem.

My initial comments to Fresh Water Systems were as follows: “Just started with a new well one month ago. Getting an opaque color in water, along with micro air bubbles. The air bubbles slowly dissipate but the off-white color remains.

No visible sand that I have yet detected. What micron filter / number would you think I should consider just from what I have described as far as our water problem?” The reply from Fresh Water was as follows: “Thanks for reaching out to FWS.

100-mesh should work perfectly for you!” Unfortunately I am greatly disappointed in the functioning of this Rusco Sediment Trapper filter for my water problem. This filter may work for some but it is not even close to rectifying my situation.

A major investment for me that did not turn out favorably.

We have a private well for our water supply. Previously we had a standard water filter but it got tedious and expensive having to change the filter every month. This is the perfect solution for trapping sediment in the water.

We had our water tested and it was free from other contaminants so this is the only filter we now use. Installation was relatively easy. A professional plumber recommended we not use the plastic ball valve provided as they have a tendency to fail because sediment can get in the mechanism and they get hard to turn.

We purchased a brass ball valve. As always is the case, it’s critical not to over tighten plastic plumbing threads. We highly recommend this filter. The price is totally reasonable compared to other filters.

Works as it should, will not be as brittle like the clear one. A must have for outside use.

This thing is tough. Well built and a lot larger than I had thought. Measure twice and verify fitting in your desired area. We use our filter as a whole RV filter and we love it. No loss of pressure and our water looks and smells good.

The filter assembly is well designed and assembled. The mounting bracket contributes a lot to the finished product. The consumer does not have to come up with a way to mount the filters, which makes the installation more straight forward.

Packaging of the product for shipment is also excellent!.

Be sure to build in a complete bypass when installing into ur system. Ensure orings fully seated on canisters when installing or changing filters. Other than that, good lil filtration unit. Lost literally no flow after i installed.

I recommend especially for tight spaced areas like i have.

Originally bought the 3/4″ input/output port version, had to return for this 1″ input/output port version so our water pressure wouldn’t be affected. We live in the country and have a well. We use this whole house filter and a soft water conditioner and that’s all we need.

Perfect water. The built-in bypass valve makes filter changes a breeze.

I’ve bought a few of these at different places to filter the whole house water. They work great and the only problem I have had is the shut off valve gets stiff and you can’t turn it after around a year which hasn’t been a problem for me because I mounted them right next to the water valve, so I just shut off the water going to it.

Easier to install than I initially thought. well built, works well, slight drop in pressure but does not affect our lifestyle.

This is long. Read or skim through it for some sage advice. Went in big financially, on this system (couple grand). We chose the salt free water conditioner, UV water purification option, and the whole house filtration system.

Plus also opted for the pre filter and post filter replacement program where they ship you filters in time to meet manufacturers replacement schedule. 1st issue, if you live in the 95125 zip code and surrounding San Jose, CA area, this system will NOT significantly reduce hard water deposits on your appliances and fixtures.

example: I have the Costco glass electric hot water kettle which I coincidentally bought brand new when we installed the Aquasana whole house system. The kettle has continually required once a week cleaning with vinegar to remove calcified hard deposits across the bottom of the kettle (heating element), and I can visibly see the deposits floating in the kettle water, after water is boiled/heated.

My system is less than two years old, I noticed the hard water build up in the glass kettle within the first two weeks of using the system. Talk about a blow to the ego. “Yes, I just wasted thousands of dollars on a system that doesn’t work”.

In my opinion, you are better off calling around to local plumbers and getting recommendations for water softeners known to work in your region. 2nd issue with the system is that I noticed a gradual reduction is household water pressure, especially when more than one water source is utilized.

Or, when toilets are flushed and then you go to use the sink to wash your hands; you get a very noticeable drop in water volume from the sink fixture. I initially dismissed it out of hubris, but it is undeniable now and can’t be ignored.

What is causing the calcium and the gradual water pressure drop? Apparently, in the case of mineral deposits, the salt-free system/product technology has the capability to reduce the size of the mineral deposits so that they cannot bond to one another and it flows through the pipes in microscopic form, but when you reheat the water like, say in a 50-gallon water heater, tankless water heater, dishwasher, or electric water kettle (insert your own appliance here) the deposits reform and can become hard deposits.

(exactly what was the point in selling me this product when I stated to the sales guy that one of my specific goals was to prevent reduced product life caused by hard water deposit damage to my high-dollar appliances?) I don’t have the energy to discuss the water pressure issue with customer support to find out that “this is normal operation”, as I was told the calcium build up is.

So, the big question. What prompted me to buy this product? What tipped the scale in their favor? well, not having my own personal experience with this or any softner/filtration system, I went with Aquasana because I noticed that a prominent home builder in our area installed the same system I bought in some teardown/rebuilds in my neighborhood.

Then I talked to one of the home owners, and he said he was pretty happy with it (found out later –too late, later– that his wife is NOT happy with it. ), after talking to him I called and spoke with the company’s sales advisors and explained my goals: reduce calcium deposits and eliminate metals and chlorine from my drinking and bathing water.

The sales dept was upfront about the fact that this system (or any system for that matter), cannot guarantee 0% hard water, but they did promise to deliver a significant reduction in minerals from the municipality provided water to my household faucets, and removal of metals and chlorine after Aquasana treatment.

I have no clue what that math turned out to be, and it doesn’t matter since the proof of hard water is visible in the water. Bottom line, don’t make the same mistake I did. The next system I will install comes with high recommendations from plumbers and customers who live in the region where I live.

Do your due diligence and don’t just go with what the contractors are putting in. Often times, they are motivated more by keeping their costs low than by system performance. Ask to talk to the local plumber’s resident expert on home water treatment systems.

If the plumber you contact doesn’t have a resident expert, call the next plumber on your list. Hope this is helpful for folks living in my region to make an informed decision.

When purchasing a system Aquasana needs to do a better job of explaining how water conditioners work (versus water softeners). We live in Clearwater, FL, which is an extremely hard water area. We purchased a water conditioner in April 2021.

Within weeks there was noticeable scaling and mineral build-up on all surfaces. Water spotting on glasses and dishware as well as the shower glass doors. Sinks, tubs, and toilets were showing signs of scaling and extreme water spotting.

We contacted customer service and the representative advised us that we needed to use special cleaners designed to remove this type of build-up, which we did. Ultimately having a water conditioner ended up costing us much more in time, cleaning product, and unsightly appearance.

In short, it was a pain having to deal with the result of conditioned water. The problem got much worse and after 6 months we removed this system and went back to a water softening system. I contacted Aquasana and told them of my experience, they apologized but said I had gone past the 90 return period there was nothing they could do.

Technically Aquasana is correct, but it’s not right. I’m posting this to issue a warning. While their system may condition water, what comes out leaves all surfaces stained with water spots and scale build-up.

If you live in an area of extremely hard water, I recommend avoiding the Aquasana Water conditioner, because it doesn’t work. And to Aquasana – while you are technically correct in not offering any financial refund for a system that leaves unsightly residue surfaces without extra cost and effort, you now have an extremely dissatisfied customer, and I’ll continue to post this is any relevant review site.

I had to order a dual system because, per Aquasana, our home was too big for a single well-water system and the pressure would be reduced too far. Whatever, I was excited to have super-water. When it arrived, we had our plumber on standby – which is difficult due to everyone being crazy busy.

Unfortunately, the order was wrong and we were missing parts for the dual install and Aquasana added parts that I didn’t want/need. Then they charged me more to ship the missing parts. So, now I’m annoyed.

Of course, the plumber can’t get back for weeks. Once finally installed, I was excited all over again – however – there was zero discernible change in our water quality. It still tastes like “tap water” so we’re still using a Brita filter and there is absolutely no difference in the shower experience.

No softer hair and skin or less water spots on the chrome. It’s 100% the same – with less water pressure. I have no idea if there are less cysts, bacteria or “heavy metals” that Aquasana claims to remove – but the real-world experience has actually been a negative impact on our home’s water due to the reduced flow at the taps.

Other than looking cool in the basement, I would absolutely not recommend this system and will likely be changing it out once these filters are done. Wife = not happy.

I called to order a filter. I was recommended this one because it was a 100 and not a 60, but it was extremely too small. When I called, they did not help me get a correct filter; rather, they just refunded my money, well thats what they said they would do.

I still need a filter.

The filter in my home irrigation system developed a seam tear after a couple of years and needed to be replaced, as we live on a lake and a good deal of sediment is pulled up into the system. This filter is a perfect replacement and was delivered in the time frame expected.

Arrived on time. Packaged safely. Fit perfectly. Good or better quality than the original filter
