20 Best Snail For Reef Tank (2023 Updated)

So, I saw in the Q&A there was the question multiple times as to whether garters could eat these or not and all the responses are the same very vague response. Since the description is “cooked in can” and generally no reptiles should be fed anything “cooked” it is kind of hard to figure out what that’s about.

but this is the 2nd time (in 3 years, so, not often) that I have fed my garters these. Their poops are thicker than they are for fish but not as much as with pinkies/mice. They pass them through just fine and really like to eat them.

One snake needs them to be scented but at that point she is ready to go. I definitely wouldn’t do this regularly for fear of maybe constipation? Since, again, I’m a little ehhh about them being “cooked”, seems odd.

Now that I think about it though, in terms of composition, I guess it’s not that different from there being casings on reptilinks. For some variation in their diet (ideally, garters eat primarily fish and amphibians with some rodent supplementation, you do NOT want a fat snake) this is great in my opinion, because of the lack of risk of parasites.

It’s about the same consistency of chicken livers I guess you could say, which, I know some people also feed their garters.

I was hoping the injured blue jay I am caring for would eat these to save me from searching outside for live ones. I tried giving them to him several times but he was not interested. Two weeks after openning the can, I threw them away assuming they were no longer good.

The can needs to have an experation date and/or information regarding how long they are good for once the can is openned.

BTS eat a lot of snails in the wild. Unfortunately, you can’t buy live, farmed snails that easily and picking the ones from your backyard is not safe for your lizard due to pesticides and parasites. This product is perfect for that reason.

My BTS loves these even though it’s the first time in his life eating them. They come in small sizes so no worries about impaction. Also, it doesn’t smell as long as you refrigerate well. The only con I have is that it came in more than 1/2 full.

The other Zoomed canned insects foods are filled to the top. Oh well, this won’t stop me from buying more in the future.

I dose this along with phytoplankton every other day in my tank. My coral have really taken off and I can tell a visual difference in them. I turn of my mechanical filtration before dosing and let the circulation pumps spread the dose to the corals.

I noticed brighter colors and faster growth in my corals and I will continue the use of this product.

I bought this a month ago for my reef tank and had high hopes for it but unfortunately this phytoplankton is dead. This is great for feeding your corals but not for fighting algae, Dinos, and feeding your copepods.

I love seachem products I have my saltwater running with a seachem filter and canister. This is my first saltwater tank and first time adding corals to it. Seeing that phytoplankton helps with keeping anemones healthy and thriving I decided to buy it.

I’ve had the anemones in my tank for a little over a week and I’m assuming the seachem is doing its job. I have never bought any other brand except seachem so I do have high expectations and I’ll see if in the long run I see improvement or my corals dont do so well but I do hope they do great.

So I just noticed on my latest order that they decreased the amount of salt and increased the price. I am blown away by the increase in price and decrease in salt – from 200 gallons to 150 gallons. Not sure if it’s BRS in cahoots with Reef Crystals or it was just Reef Crystals increasing the price and providing less product, but it’s crazy that you don’t think the consumer wouldn’t notice.

CHECK THE UNIT PRICE. Reef Crystals used to be the cheaper salt but now with the decrease in product and increase in price it’s one of the more expensive salts on the market. What is going on????? and DON’T tell me its the pandemic or inflation.

I’m very new to salt water. I bought a tank needed new sand. My fish was in a bucket at home so I rushed into petco told the girl I needed sand for a salt water tank. bought a few new fish she handed me 2 bags said this is the best sand for saltwater.

well I dumped it in our tank. next day everything is dead, fish, corral, grabs, EVERYTHING. The girl sold me salt. return to store with samples and pics. store said oh well not our fault should of read the package!!! So our $8,000 tank destroyed and we are s^%’ out of luck cause we trusted the word of their “marine specialist” SMH.

i have been using this since I started the hobby in 2019 but last time I bought fritz and WOW! It basically mixes up instantly! As a matter of fact i dont think I ever got this to clear up in the bucket but once I put in tank my tanks was always crystal clear! One thing I cant figure out is why brs costs twice as much as getting from amazon! Sorry brs but truth be told.

I still shop with you guys for many things but not salt!.

Since starting reef plus 8 months ago, my corals have grown better and their colors are tremendous. I add 1 capful per 20 gallons twice weekly. My goniopora have responded very well to the supplement.

I only had this for about a week and I can already tell a difference. My ‘babies’ (fish and exotics) are doing great, my plants doing excellent. I see less stress and it seems to be going great. Thanks!.

Seachem products like Reef Fusion 1 & 2, calcium, reef builder, reef complete, iodide, Prime, etc. have helped me transform my reef tank over the last 8 months. With careful parameter monitoring and maintenance, it has made my tank become easier to maintain and enjoy.

I had already done my research as far as food varieties for my Blue Tongue Skink before bringing her home, and I had noted that snails are a favorite in their diet. I just didn’t realize she would love them this much! My girl can go pretty long periods without wanting to take to any food, though she hardly ever turns down a nice, mushy banana.

Well. step aside, bananas, we have a new contender in town for most favorited food! I’m so thrilled that she loves these as much as she does because I can easily store away the rest for a later time and I don’t have to worry about them spoiling quickly.

My Blue Tongue was more than happy to eat these straight from my hand and even had her head smushed in the container looking for more. I highly recommend these for anyone with a skink!.

My 1yr old skink loved this. I was expecting a foul oder which it didn’t have at all. She ate these as a meal and was happy to eat them after being in the fridge too. They come in various cuts within the can and aren’t slimy like you’d expect but do have a natural juice to them so they’re easy to feed.

Pleanty of snails come in the can too. Love that these snails can be fed to various animals and require absolutely no preparation.

Love this and ended up moving onto the biggest bottles. Make sure you know how to use it though as its a good trap for many new fishkeepers. It’s not that it “doesnt work” you just have to do it right.

Make sure the bottle is in date as out of date bacteria is dead bacteria most likely. When using for fish in cycling, dose the aquarium EVERY DAY with this until your ammonia and nitrites are 0ppm (with API liquid test kit; a worthy investment) and make sure you keep nitrates under 40ppm.

When adding more fish after your cycle, use the bacteria every day once again for at LEAST a week to let the tank get used to the new ammonia. Always introduce new fish in small amounts. Hope this helped someone, but always do your research!.

Had to find something for a bad infestation of Ick in our 47 gallon high tank. If I had known then what I know now, I would keep this stuff in stock. I’d had tanks for years but 55s and 40 of normal height.

I’m short and even with a ladder have a hard time with this 36″ deep tank. Only have gold fish but many problems with Ick and this stuff works great. Bought half a dozen bottles for two weeks of medicating the tank and finally, relief! The fish are doing well and everything looks good.

Totally happy with this product.

This helped clear out the ick so much faster than anything else I tried to use! I originally used a fin and body cure that I was recommended but it only made everything worse and made my fish die faster and in the end 95% of my fish died.

This stopped my fish from dying almost immediately and I seen results very fast. Thank you so much for such a great product! Hopefully it doesn’t happen again but if it does (especially in my quarantine tank) I will for sure be buying this again!.

Yes, this stuff stinks. But all of these epoxy putties smell disgusting and should be kneaded in a well-ventilated area. So that’s no reason to rate this poorly. This is a tiny tube. It’s expensive and overpriced.

But here’s the deal: You only need purple epoxy like this when you’re using it on rock in an area that’s visible. A little goes a long way. Use the janky white stuff in areas that won’t be viewed. Use this for finishing work.

Zero complaints from this life-long tanker. Everyone complaining about how it doesn’t magically stick to surfaces apparently can’t be bothered to do a cursory google search or quick flip through YouTube to learn how to use epoxy putty.

Because if they had? They’d love this stuff.

Yep, works great. A couple tips for the folks having trouble: 1) It’s epoxy so you don’t have forever, directions say “knead for about 1 minute”. I’d say you have about 3 mins max before it’s a rock, so mix it quick, then get it stuck between minutes 1.

5 and 2. 5. Make small “batches”, once it starts feeling noticeably warm you’re about out of time. 2) Nothing will stick well if the surface is dirty, dusty, slimey. Use a toothbrush to lightly scrub the area, then stick a ball of it in place and add your frag / rock quickly and directly without rocking/twisting, otherwise the wad loses contact points and doesn’t “bed” properly.

I love it. It’s easy to use, even one-handed! It works exactly as it claims to and holds like cement! If I seem overly excited, it’s because I was using super glue gel by itself before this with many failures.

This is the first thing I’ve tried that actually works. It has a horrible smell, which turned out to be a bonus! I had fun chasing the kids around the house with my stinky fingers afterwards. Lol Seriously though, I highly recommend this epoxy!.

Been using this and Rowa pho’s to replace chemical pure elite. So much more affordable and works great to keep water super clear and phosphate level down. The carbon is awesome quality with little riding needed.

I think this is amazing. Lots of features and customizable from every point of view. The few times I asked for help in support they were competent, fast and above all very patient. Really recommend

The ramshorns all came alive and are now reproducing as I hoped. Very satisfied with the purchase. Maybe 1 out of the group died early but that’s no problem. I already have baby ramshorns hatched and growing for a few weeks now.

This product actually includes four different species of snails: Planorbis planorbis, Planorbella trivolvis, Planorbella duryi, and Gyraulus parvus. They are great for an aquarium, but not for science projects or experiments as I had purchased them for, where species consistency is important.

If you are looking for a critter for experiments, choose another species. They are very fascinating as aquarium pets though, and their tolerance for water quality varies depending on the species. The smaller species are more sensitive and quickly died after purchase, but the larger ones lived much longer and even laid eggs.

Pricewise, the snails were very expensive (almost $1 per snail), especially if some of the snails die off. The shipping cost is horrendous. More than enough babies hatch to make up for losses, but they grow slowly.

The snails are relatively easy to maintain. They require aquatic plants and fish food. The included manual recommends water changes every week.

WITH ALGE GROWTH A PROBLEM IN AQUARIUMS, I CHOSE THE RAMHORN SNAIL BECAUSE OF IT EFFECTIVENESS IN REDUCING THIS PROBLEM. WITH SNAILES ONE IS FACED WITH REPRODUCTION AND ONE SHOULD BE PREPARED WITH OTHERS APPEARING ON THE SCENE.

HAVING SEVERAL AQUARUMS UNDERWAY THIS WAS NO PROBLEM.

I guess my snails were too smart to fall for the trap. even worse, they’re laying eggs On Top Of It! There is a video of a guy using it in his aquarium and it got LOTS of snails overnight. I’ve had mine in the tank for 3 days and it had trapped 2 but it looks like one of them found a way out.

It probably would work in a larger tank. Gonna give it to my son so he can try it in his very large aquarium. My set ups are both live planted nano tanks (5 and 2 gallons). I so wished it had worked, now I’m back to trying to find a super hungry assassin snail or yoyo loach.

tried several other unsuccessful methods to rid my tank of pest snails but this one actually works, Hooray! Suggest you carry on using the Sera tabs as I have found them more effective than other baits.

keys to success: 1, Follow simple instructions explicitly, 2, Place in tank during total darkness. 3, Have patience and accept that you will probably wont ever get rid of them all. I have been catching about 30 to 40 every night, from the first night for the last 4 nights running with always a few of the pesky things left on the glass in the morning.

One thing is that my garden pond fish are enjoying the supplement to their diet.

At first I was not that impressed with this – using the supplied bait it caught about six snails, with many more to be seen on the glass and plants. I then tried cucumber – even worse – only two snails.

BUT then I tried algae wafers. and bingo! 20 snails in one night. So this trap is as good as the bait – but that would be true of any trap. Fact is that if the bait is good they go in and can’t get out.

Result. Tip – hanging the bait from the red plug is better than just dumping it on the floor. Don’t know why, but it is.

I love these snails. As a child, my family used to have escargot as part of a meal, often. I recently rediscovered my mother’s recipe of snails in mushroom caps; and have started to serve these regularly.

It clearly states snails only on container; but I have the shells, serving dishes tongs and forks if I want to make a fancy presentation. When snails are prepared correctly, they are delicious and great source of protein.

( Open can, rinse snails in water, then make garlic sauce recipe from can lable. Preheat oven, 375 degrees. Mix whole snails in sauce. Put cleaned mushroom caps only onto baking sheet/pan. Then put a bit if sauce into each mushroom cap (like it is a tiny bowl), then put one snail into each cap.

Then bake (375degrees) in oven for 20 minutes. ) I just purchased 6 cans; but we will use them fast. Please keep these snails on the shelves for a quick meal!.

Stuffed mushrooms with Escargot and sauteed in a garlic butter sauce topped with cheese. Wow! also there is a tip: soak Escargot in a bowl of cold water 1-2 hours before cooking and it removes any can taste.

I have been buying these for years. Every time, I am asked what I do with them. I take a pie plate and sprinkle jiffy pie crust mix in the bottom. Then moisten it with white wine. Then press the snails around in the crust, making little holes.

Then, put minced garlic on top of each with a pat of butter. Sprinkle Old Bay seasoning, fresh lemon juice, parsley, and parmesan cheese on top. Bake like a pie. People that have never had them before like them this way.

My tank had been well established for over a year and I have put live sand into my tank before after the fact. However on the second morning putting this into my established tank, I woke up in the morning to almost $400 of fish and live stock all dead.

The tank somehow recycled after putting in this new bag. My Nitrates and Nitrites skyrocketed overnight and all my beloved fish children were dead. Needless to say, I was very depressed and upset. There is no warning on this package of such and even the fish stores in the area, deny this as a common occurrence.

I feel very misled.

I don’t know why, but there is a huge difference in the colors. This is so fine it would not settle after a week I had fish dying. I literally did a water change, and the sand would go up the gravel vac and into my bucket no problem.

I have the exact same sand in Fiji pink, no problems it settled in less than four hours with no issues. This is the worst sand ever, the filter with bio media only that I waited hours to turn on had so much sand in it.

The fish didn’t like the sand either. They would not touch it and stayed higher up, most likely due to the thickness in the water I have never had a problem changing out subtrate with my fish still in the tank until now.

I literally was able to remove them just by placing my hand in the tank and scooping them up. This sand is way too fine I don’t know anything that you could use it for. Not to mention that I put it in four tanks, the others have Fiji pink, the tanks with this sand after about three days everything including silk plants were getting a biofilm on them.

I would have been better off staying with the gravel or waiting for more bags of the other.

I’ve been using this sand for over 10 years and I just love love love it. The fish love it too, they swift and burrow into it naturally. The water chemistry is stable. It looks so awesome too, just like going to the beach.

VERY IMPORTANT!!! YOU MUST RINSE THIS SAND. I used it directly in the tank and the water was so cloudy. The filters could not clear it. I had to discard 60 gallons of water. I put about 5 lbs of sand in a bucket and stirred it with faucet water and dumped the cloudy water, I repeated this until all the sand was clear.

Then put it in the tank and the water was spectacularly clearer. If your are concerned about removing the bacteria, you can easily buy biological bacteria and add it. This is how I did it and it worked perfectly.

The fish are happy and so am I.

Don’t listen to Dbwhit about this being larger size sand. This is very fine blow around your tank size sand. Very fine. Looks like sugar. It is really nice looking sand but it really for low flow tanks.

Most saltwater reef tanks are high flow so don’t buy this if that is what you need it for.

The sand is a mixture of small shells and white sand. It looks very nice if thats what you’re looking for. The water does get cloudy after you first add the sand but this happens with pretty much any sand you get.

It was well packaged with no leaks and came with a good amount of water in the bag for the bacteria.

Received 160 lbs. The dates on bags showed it to be about 4 months old, well sealed and wet inside with no leaks. It did have some odor to it. I added entire contents of bag without rinsing and it took the typical time it takes for a new set up to clear.

It is sugar sand, the 1-1. 5 mm grain size is not accurate. High flow blows it around some so put a rock where it craters or you will be fixing your bed every few days. I like the look of it and I’ve had coarser beds before so I’ll enjoy this for a change of pace.

I will add lots of Nassarius snails after a while and leave it alone.

The product caused my tank to spike in ammonia. It put it into a new cycling, because a water change did not flush it out enough. Sadly, within hours my otherwise thriving clown pair started struggling.

My 13 year clown male passed away after just after attempting a second water change 3 days later. My 11 year clown female is gasping her last breath. I have read similar complaints about this product, of fish suddenly dying.

How dare this manufacturer not warn or otherwise sell such an unsafe product. If it’s for reef only, then disclose that fact. Other’s, I’m miserable now this Christmas to end the worse year I’m history.

No thank you very much. My female clown is larger so probably sustained the shock better. She’s either passing from the same, or a 💔. It’s two losses within 24 hrs. Shame on vibrant. If I could give zero stars I would.

My tank had a brown algae that would not go away no matter what I did. I also noticed 2 small patches of what looked like possible hair algae developing. I decided to give this a try. I dosed it one time.

In a matter of hours the brown was disappearing. In 2 days it was completely gone along with the two hair algae patches. They literally disappeared. It has been 4 weeks everything is still gone and I have never treated again.

I have been keeping saltwater fish for about 15 years and nothing has delivered on promises like this stuff. Corals, crabs, and fish are all happy.

I’m on week three og dosing this in my 250 liter reef tank, and this is what I’ve experienced so far: – Increased water clarity. This happened pretty quickly, and is definately noticeable – Increased gha growth.

Don’t know how this is even possible, but the difference is certainly noticeable. Had a few tufts of gha in the system to begin with, and this was one of the reasons why I decided to try Vibrant in my fully mature DSB system.

Amount of gha has double many times over, and I have neither added nor remove any livestock that could account for this. – New algae(?) growth on the sandbed. Not something I’m used to seeing: multicoloured patches of algae or bacteria on the sandbed that disappears after lights out, but reappears the day after – Strings of slime apparent several places in the tank – Soft corals looking unhappy, with poor PE.

Was originally using Calcium Chloride only as cheap additive for my marine aquarium to save money. Tried the Seachem Reef Advantage Calcium to see if this type of product would be make any difference.

Within a month the corals where more colorful & look much healthier. Have been using this product now for a couple of years with no visual ill effects to the corals. As it also contains magnesium ( as well as strotium) I have been able to reduce my magnesium dosing down to a minimum.

Seachem reef Advantage Calcium is a great product & worth the extra expense. Tried the Seachem Advantage Magnesium as a replacement for my Magnesium Sulpahte & Chloride additive. No noticeable difference so have not continued with the Seachem Reef Advatage Magnesium.

I love this product for my saltwater tank! I was having a problem keeping the ph in my tank up and this product safely raised the ph in my tank to 8. 2! My fish have been thriving every since! Would highly recommend to any marine aquarists who are struggling to keep their ph up!.

Just like all the seachem products ive used i have come to really love this brand. Easy to do and rasies Ca. This also has trace elements of mag and strontium. As with all powders DO NOT just pour into the tank.

Mix with tank water or top off water and pour into sump(if you have) or tank.

first of all, when I got this, the filter hole the place where you attach the pump was blocked off by an actual wall of plastic! and the book didn’t mention this to me and there was no clear way to remove it.

and it wasn’t misinformed or anything, it was perfectly smooth like it was put there on purpose. so I spent the next three hours trying to unclog it with a knife and I didn’t notice this until one moth after I stocked my tank so it ended up looking like a swamp.

well after I goy it up and running the second filter chamber started to overflow. I looked at the pump and it was working just fine but somehow couldn’t push all the water through so my tank ended up looking like a swamp again.

so now an entire nest of hornets live inside it because I forgot it outside paying hundreds of dollars for this gag tank was the worst mistake of my life.

Absolutely love this aquarium. Not only is it very beautiful with it’s curved edged glass, but it works great and is QUIET at night! You can easily upgrade the filter media basket, but it’s not required if you are happy with the original one.

I had a BioCube 32 before and loved it, but ended up getting a bigger tank. Then I missed my BioCube all over again and here I am again, grabbing another one. Lol. Back to the fun of cycling before I get my babies in there.

To sum it up, this is a GREAT tank for people starting out in saltwater fish keeping, because it has all that you need to start up without spending thousands for the lights, filters and so on.

RUN! My wife bought me this back in October to compliment my 29 biocube that I’ve not had one issue with. I returned home from work one fine evening to find all the water from this on the floor. All my fish / coral toast and a blown MP10.

The bottom seal appears to have given out due to weigh. I googled the problem and found there to be more than myself who has experienced this. I emailed coralife over a month ago and they’ve still not responded.

Terrible customer support. Run! I will say, I never had a biocube 29 problem.

Why am I happy? (7 months in) I’ve previously had mixed size arag which was always switching from fine sand on top after syphoning to all the chunky pieces sifting up the rest of the time (I like the white sand look).

And I’ve had gobies actually get bigger pieces stuck in their mouths with the old sand. With the consistency of the special grade, I’ve seen my wrasses going in and out, and my nassarius snails seem happy submerging and surfacing.

A previous tank had pests, so this time I went for a sterile dry rock/dry sand start to avoid potential pests in live ocean sand (and I’ve quarantined EVERYTHING – corals, fish, inverts, chaeto. – so far, so good) I only have one eco-tech MP 40, but even when I crank it up to test, this sand doesn’t blow around in my 120.

Very happy with this choice.

I bought two bags of this for my new 180. I “prepped” the sand by dividing it between three 5-gallon buckets and then topping it off with RODI. I agitated the sand, drained off the cloudy RODI, and then refilled with RODI once a week for 2-3 months before adding it to my tank.

This was worth it as it really reduced the cloudiness. I have two MP60’s on each end, and two MP40’s on the back wall (all set to 70% Reef Crest) and I get minimal sand movement (sand bed is about 1-1.

5″). this stuff sticks together pretty well. Very glad this is the sand I chose.

Super start for Reef Tanks. Great item for price@ Chewy ! This is a super way to jump start your Saltwater Tank. Using this Carib Sea Aragonite material builds great bio-DBS tank floor. With a jump start micro bacteria liquid this is a good way to get fish in your tank in a week or two.

Seachem is the safest and easy product to use. Magnesium is must to retain proper Calcium levels in aquarium.

Majority of red algae disappeared in less than 2 days, the really bad spots took 1 to 2 days more. Other algaecides I tried before this accomplished nothing, so that may have made me appreciate this stuff that much more.

No impact to soft corals or inverts. The only thing that died was the red algae.

As simple as that. After battling manually for months only to see the issue worsen I was sceptical. Put it in, left it two days, did a big water change and every single trace of cyano is gone. No coral, fish or invert harmed.

Couldnt have asked for more really.

this stuff works , i am out of town for weeks at a time and had neighbor feed the fish , and a bad case or red slime invaded the tank, after 2 doses it is almost all gone. works as per instructions if followed.

all the inhabitants fared good , only thing i noticed was the plant life slowed.

I’ve had this running for about 3 months now. Incredible growth, consistent alk at 8. 3, calc at 420. My corals have truly taken off and could not be happier with this particular application. I use the BRS Co2 tank and the regulator from CarbonDoser.

Highly recommend.

I was looking for a reactor for my new frag setup and i bought this after doing alot of homework. Geo’s were out of my price range and this one was a great price so i bought it. i was very surprised how well built this was.

i thought it would be cheap thin acrylic for the cylinder and a crappy pump. boy was i wrong. i hooked it up and controlled it via my RKE and loaded up with media and after a month i seen dramatic difference to my frags.

the growth and color was very noticeable. no more over dosing 2 part for me anymore. best investment i bought.

Can’t complain. It’s definitely made raising coral easier
