20 Best Singer Heavy Duty Sewing Machine (2023 Updated)

I bought myself a heavy duty machine to replace my previous singer. After much consideration, I went for the Heavy duty model as I previously found my old machine couldn’t tackle thicker fabrics such as wools for coats.

The online support service was brilliant, very knowledgeable and didn’t push you to buy a model that was more powerful than your needs. I even got some extra bits and bobs! The delivery on the machine was incredibly quick.

It’s a great machine, so quiet in comparison to my old singer! The first project was a canopy with a very heavy canvas, sewed like a dream. Can’t wait to use it more as winter sets in and we update our family wardrobe.

Best buy I’ve made!.

I’ve used Singer sewing machines for the last 50+ years. This model was an extreme disappointment. It is in no way ‘heavy duty’. It sews faster than previous sewing machines and that’s about it. It won’t sew through the same things the previous machine (purchased in 1992) sewed.

This one is a complete waste of money. I’ve communicated with Singer several times about this and the nearly useless Serger I bought at the same time, and at no time did they say they were looking to improve on their current models.

If you want to sew two pieces of lightweight material together and nothing else, this machine will probably work fine for you.

This machine does exactly what it says. For my first project I’ve already sewn 6 layers of leather together and also multiple layers (4) of Harris Tweed, to make a handbag. Despite being a very novice sewer I haven’t found any real difficulties, although there is definitely a “knack” to catching the thread from the bobbin, but once mastered it really is quite straightforward.

Not a quiet machine, but when it’s dealing with heavyweight fabrics that’s understandable. I would recommend a walking foot as an optional extra, plus some spare bobbins and heavyweight needles. I definitely recommend this machine.

I am frankly disappointed by the Heavy Duty 4423. The pedal barely reaches the floor. Singer decided to economize not just on the electric power cord, but on almost all other features. Plastic and flimsy exterior.

Disappointed with the quality of the stiches on simple cotton fabric, I can only imagine what will be with other materials. Still considering if I should return this purchase. I did not expect this from SINGER as I had a different model from the same company 30 years ago and there is no comparison in quality.

Simple to use, but this is the only positive I have discovered so far.

Mediocre, far from Heavy duty. As an experienced seamstress, I find this machine extremely mediocre. First of all horizontal bobbins are the worse and not long-lasting. Other their internal metal case, the rest of the machine is made with cheap materials all plastic.

The light is THE WORSE I have seen in my entire seeing life, there are internal main pieces that in any machine would be metal and are plastic in this one. It’s very noisy even after oiling it and any machine comes with a hard case but this one came with a cheap fabric cover.

The backstitch button is in a totally unpractical place and will advise being VERY gentle with the 2 wheels on the front (to change stitches and length) because I am sure they will break in a few months.

My friend lends me her brand new for me to see if I would get it. Definitely no!And this is not a beginner’s friendly machine.

This machine was recommended by a friend who sews everyday. I have sewn for over 50 years and was not interested in a computer type machine. I wanted a basic, inexpensive, easy to operate machine. This Singer 4432 is lightweight but sturdy.

It was easy to set up, thread, and wind the bobbin. It only came with basic instructions but the manual was readily available online for download. Manual is essential if you want specific instructions for any of the many stitches and buttonhole that the machine is capable of.

Also, the manual is needed for troubleshooting problems, if any. If you are a beginner or experienced, I think you will be pleased with the ease of operation. It also comes with a free online sewing class.

That might be a good introduction for someone who is just beginning or who has not sewn for awhile. I have not checked it out. I opted for the manual instead. I will probably view the class later. It does not come with a case but has a handle attached to the machine which makes it so easy to transport.

I like that it has a simple cover with a hole for the handle. It protects the machine from dust when not in use. Overall I appreciate the style and am pleased with the performance of the machine.

Ok, what a terrible time I had with singer. Started out with the M1000. Two machines were faulty right out of the box. Upgraded to the M2100, also did not work right. Then upgraded to this 4432 and it puckered and pulled material, no matter how many settings adjustments I made.

I finally went to an actual sewing shop with some of material and they asked me what machine I have. I said the singer 4432, they laughed at me. They said any singer machine built after 1988 ish is not worth 1/4 of the asking price.

They sold out and royalty their name to a cheap manufacturer. If you’re looking to buy thus machine, save your money, go to an actual sewing shop and talk to a salesman. Get a real machine, not this garbage stitch box that won’t keep even the thinest, pinned a million times material stitching straight.

Oh my goodness! This sewing machine is amazing! The set-up, threading a bobbin, and threading this sewing machine was very easy. No complex steps to follow, and the manual is very easy to read and understand.

This machine creates beautiful stitches and razor sharp seams. There were no skipped stitches! No bunching, either! I also took advantage of Singer. com’s video tutorial resources. Singer also has a YouTube channel, which has a plethora of additional videos demonstrating what this sewing machine can do.

This baby is sturdy, and I love the design. There is plenty of workspace to sew a garment. The automatic threader is an absolute God-send! Thank you, Singer! I love using the “function buttons” (start/stop, reverse stitching, needle up-down, and speed control.

These functions make sewing more enjoyable and productive; and there are many additional feet and accessories that came packaged with this awesome machine. This is my second Singer sewing machine I purchased this year, and I don’t have any regrets and not one bad thing to say about both of them! I also own a Singer Heavy Duty 6800c sewing machine.

Another wonderful sewing machine! I plan to work on heavy duty projects on this machine. My Quantum Stylist sewing machine arrived early, it was packaged neatly and securely. Nothing was broken or dirty.

I look forward to creating many sewing and quilting projects with this baby! Lastly, the price was very reasonable! I saved a total of $175 off the original price. I highly recommend this awesome sewing machine, especially to the beginner sewist.

I’m going to love my new Singer sewing machine I’m sure. I’ve used it a couple of times for a quick fix to an already existing garment and have been pleased with its performance. Presently, I’m working to identify all of the attachments that have come with my new machine.

My only complaint is that all of the attachments came in one large bag. I’ve spent several hours already looking at the manual attempting to match each attachment with the picture in the manual. While I’ve gotten several matched up with its picture I’ve spent countless hours online on your website looking at the different presser foot pictures and classes.

I have to agree that it has been helpful to watch each demonstration but I simply do not have the time to spend online going over what each attachment is or how it works. All of this would have been simplified if the attachments would have come in separate bags with their name identify what the attachment was.

I am a novice seamstress. I haven’t sewn since high school. Singer has grown by leaps and bounds since I have sewn! I do have the desire to begin my new era with my new Singer. I plan to teach myself how to quilt and hopefully make a few new garments that I can proudly wear.

As stated, I’m almost a brand new seamstress. A little effort on Singer’s part by sending the attachment along with their identifying name would have been helpful to me and extremely helpful to someone just beginning with sewing.

Pease know that I am most pleased with my new machine and plan a long and happy experience with it. I began my sewing experience when I was a very young girl by using my grandmother’s Singer unbeknownst to her.

This is my second Singer in my lifetime. I have high hope for it and what I plan on doing with it. Please don’t take my complaint lightly, it would be helpful to have identifying names on all of the attachments.

I purchased this machine about a month ago. I was upgrading and looking for a machine with built in font capability and more decorative stitches, which, for the most part, this machine has compared to a simpler machine.

The bonus accessories included are great and have already been put to good use, especially the walking foot which is a very useful addition. The machine has worked well and any problems I’ve encountered, for the most part, have been the result of the learning curve/human error.

The features I had expected this model to have but am most disappointed in are the inability to increase or decrease the size of the available fonts and decorative stitches ( I did spend a lot of time researching various machines and do not recall ever reading the font size for the Quantum Stylist is fixed or I would have passed on this model.

In addition I’ve found it difficult to remove the extra stitches between the lettering without the end/ beginning of the some letters wanting to work loose as they are not all double stitched at the begining or end of some of the lettering or decorative stitches, I’ve even resorted to adding the auto tack stitch option between letters/ stitches and it either doesn’t work or doesn’t place it where needed.

The other disappointment are the 600 so called stitches, again I had expected there to be more varieties of stitches, however, instead the same stich is counted more than once if it can be altered in width, length, mirrored or rotated, so if 1 stitch design can be mirrored as well as rotated 360° it is counted as 5 different stitches, if a stich can be lengthened x number of times and the width increased or decreased, each is counted as a “different ” stitch, so in fact there are well under 600 “different” stitches.

Overall a good working machine for the money, however, if you are wanting to use fonts/decorative stitches on a variety of projects you might be disappointed as the font size provided is rather small and will get lost on larger projects or patterned fabrics.

In short my upgrade has turn out to be just a revision to what I already have and if able to do it over again I would spend even more time on research so I end up with the features I had expected this model to have.

I was brand new to sewing and used the Hobbycraft Midi Machine for a couple of months making face masks, bunting, and dog bandanas. I wanted something with a little more power and was looking at the Singer Promise, and the Singer 3223.

I decided I didn’t need the extra stitches offered by the 3223 so settled on the Promise. This machine is fantastic. It is so simple to set up, use, and re-thread, and it is noticeably more powerful than the Midi.

I have been able to make a bag and cushion cover with this machine, and it powered through multiple layers of fabric with no issue. It offers touch sensitive speeds through the pedals, and has an inbuilt light.

I don’t find it particularly noisy, and whilst heavier than the Midi, it’s light enough to carry around. I’m so pleased with this machine and the staff at Exeter store were fantastic in helping me choose and continue to be fantastic whenever I visit the store.

I would highly recommend this machine for beginners or professionals alike.

This 4411 model has been amazing and I haven’t yet used all the settings. The machine isn’t heavy, but has enough weight that it doesn’t move when in use, making it really stable. It’s super easy to set up, but I relied on a playlist I found for this model on youtube to help (sewingmastery).

Without it, I wouldn’t have figured out certain things that have made a huge difference. (No connection or affiliation with them, I’m just grateful for those videos!) It’s easy to quickly switch thread colors and settings, super easy to thread the bobbins, and it’s fast.

So far I’ve been sewing cotton and multiple layers of canvas-like materials with zero issues. I like that I can see the bobbin and know how much thread is left during projects. I also like the compartment for accessories it comes with.

I’m not a sewing pro, but coming from a beginner/student sewing machine, to this one has been a huge, happy leap. I’m so happy with the decision to purchase this machine, it has tremendous value for the price!.

I bought this the end of July and it has been nothing but a problem. First, the plug that goes into the machine does not stay in requiring me to hold it in place until I start sewing. Second the thread “nests” and the stitches are not uniform.

Third the zig zag feature works on and off. I have watched videos to be sure everything I was doing was correct and still does not work. I firmly believe I was sold a reconditioned machine with obvious defects.

Joann fabrics hassle free returns have proven wrong as I have to spend over 50 in shipping fees to send the machine to a warranty approved facility per the Singer Company. You have to deal with Singer as Joann fabrics do not help you in this process.

For a $200 machine to spend an additional 50/60 dollars to ship it to the Singer warranty center to me is not worth it. So Joann Fabrics you need to adjust your hassle free return policy as it does not exist in this case.

Bought my HD4452 in March of 2021. Worked great for a while. This machine has less than 15 hours on it, but quit functioning properly; skipped stitches, birds nest on bottom of stitch, etc. I’m using Singer needles, thread and bobbins.

The tension is set properly. The bobbin works as it should, the needle doesn’t always pick up the thread. Seems like timing, right? nope, I had to remove the plate to clear the birds nest and observed the “hook”.

Timing was spot on and picks up the thread without the plate, but mostly won’t with the plate back on. OK, a product may have an issue, it happens, but here’s what I discovered: The warranty only covers “mechanical” for 90 days.

Singers web site shows a repair/warranty center in Southern California “Singer Sewing Center of Orange County”, that relocated, dropped Singer from it’s name, and no longer sells or advertises warranty services for Singer products.

Singer Customer Care provided this response: “Robert, They are a small location and if everyone is with customers or working on machines, they do not get to the phones. Sometimes the voice mail gets full and you will get some unusual recording that it is no longer a working number.

The location is still one of our warranty centers. I would encourage you to keep trying. They are closed on Mondays. I am sorry for the inconvenience you have experienced. You will need to have your purchase receipt and fill out the attached form when taking your machine to be repaired.

Thank you for choosing Singer. ” So keep trying a location that moved, dropped Singer from their name, stopped selling or advertising Singer products and services, and sells competitor products, and is too small or busy to help you anyway? Really? Seems Singer is headed the way of Montgomery Wards, Sears, and a host of other companies no longer in business.

Once the standard for sewing, my experience is the stanard of how NOT to provide Customer Care.

This machine is excellent for slipcovers as it does not shake my card table when sewing fast or over heavy fabrics. HOWEVER, it doesn’t make adequate buttonholes. The instructions are poor, both in the manual and online YouTubes.

More importantly, there is a design flaw in the push bar that descends from the body of the machine as well as in the buttonhole foot attachment. First, I had to reset the device by dialing back to the straight stitch to the buttonhole stitch for each new buttonhole.

Second, I had to hold the push bar back when starting or the machine would not advance to the second position. Third, I had to then let the push bar go, or the second position continued indefinitely.

Fourth, if I pushed and let go at precisely the right times, the completed buttonhole was too small for the button positioned on the buttonhole foot. Fifth, if the buttonhole foot is extended out to its maximum position (only about an inch), the completed buttonhole is still inadequate for a 3/4 inch button to pass through easily.

So don’t buy this machine if you are planning to make clothes with buttonholes.

I now really like my new 4452. It is smooth and quiet, and I think the foot pedal works great. However, it took a while to get to this point. You see, I needed to replace my 30+ year old Singer 6215, and decided to take a chance on the 4452.

I don’t really need it to be heavy duty, as I am only an recreational sewer of normal weight fabrics, but I was drawn to the sturdy metal construction after I was told my old machine’s plastic parts could have failed at any time due to their age, and the repair bill would have cost more than my new machine did.

I was a bit leery after reading the reviews of the 4452 having so many tension problems upon receipt, resulting in many returns. But I went ahead anyway and hoped that I would receive a machine free of the problem.

I wasn’t so lucky. My new machine’s bobbin tension was too loose. Like many other reviewers, I tried everything I knew to do, but I couldn’t get it to work right. I was determined that I was not going to the hassle of returning the machine and finding something else.

And I wasn’t going to go the regular route of contacting the company to be told there was nothing they could do, as a number of reviews noted. So I turned to the internet, and I found out how to fix the problem.

I understand that doing what was called for now invalidates my warranty, but I honestly don’t care about that at this point, and honestly, how often do the real problems pop up during a warranty time anyway.

I have a machine that actually works now (and works quite well), and that is what matters. And it is a ridiculously easy fix – literally, a 1/4 turn of a screw. My question is: If the fix is so easy, why hasn’t Singer addressed the problem in production, rather than having it go on for so long that so many reviews talk about the same problem? The only other thing I would say is that it would be preferable if they provided a printed manual, rather than just the online version.

I doubt including a manual would add much to the production costs.

During the past 2 years I have been making special blackout curtains for my son in law who is involved in a global project to save coral reefs. The material is thick and heavy and I have been using my 50 year old, Jones sewing machine.

However, I knew the day would come when I would have to replace it as it was struggling with the task in hand. I have never used a Singer before, but I wanted a machine that could cope with the material I am using.

This 4432 is fast, accurate, and quiet and seems to have no problem at all dealing with everything I am throwing at it. It took a few hours to adapt to a new machine and the advance in technology, but now I have no regrets at all, about choosing this make and model.

Very fast efficient delivery by John Lewis meant I only lost a couple of days sewing time. Very good value for the money too.

I have always used vintage singer machines for over 40 years, but my machines just can’t cope with some things so I decided to invest in a new singer. I have not been disappointed. This is a fantastic machine and copes with anything I throw at it and does not miss a beat.

Ideal for beginners and experienced machinists alike. Easy to follow instructions mean you will be up and running in only about 10 minutes. I must admit I have yet to master the needle threader. The large extension table is also perfect for larger items.

I highly recommend this singer 4432 to anyone.

This machine was delivered well, but did not perform well. It has many pretty stitches, but way too many glitches. Now I am not trying at all to be clever here, I had hoped this would be a great machine for decorative stitches, and nice button holes.

After just a few days the thread cutting blade fell out of its holding arm, and though I was able to slide it back into place, I believe it fell out because the cutting blade arm, was constantly getting stuck in the “out” position, and would cause a thread jam.

This would reoccur most everyday from then on. Unfortunate definitely, because this feature was my single favorite function of the quantum stylist. After between 2 and 3 months of regular use, the electrical system/or computerized system began shorting out.

The lights would flicker and most stitches would not work at all. Eventually after a few more days of trying, it stopped working completely. I have sewn over a lifetime, and have used Singer machines all along, but will not buy them again, almost as much due to the warranty policy.

This does come with a warranty, and I have been told how to have it repaired, but this too was extremely disappointing for a Singer product. Warranty holders have to pay their own shipping to the nearest repair center, in my case that is 150 miles away.

I do not trust that even repaired, this machine will last beyond another 3 months, and I do not see evidence of additional help down the road as this sort of repair is only covered for 1 year. Functionally this machine was slightly uncomfortable to thread, as the plastic edges are squared off and like to catch.

Also the design of the bobbin threader is not well thought out for a machine as expensive as this. While performing regular stitching, the thread likes to jump up and catch on one of the bobbin threading guides above the thread spool, and it catches hard, and can break needles because of the tension.

So sorry Singer, but for such a good looking product, and experienced company, I had expected much more care and consideration in the machine, and most definitely had expected more in customer service.

I bought this machine recently after looking up reviews online for a small affordable sewing machine for beginners and this one came up top. We all know the brand Singer does not disappoint and I am so pleased with my purchase.

I was intimidated at first as I grew up sewing everything by hand but if you can read a manual, then operating this machine could not be any easier. I also went on youtube to find a Singer 4411 video about threading as I am a visual learner and I was scared of breaking the brand new machine – it made so much sense and I was able to test my first stitches within an hour of setting up the machine.

I immediately used it to mend my “ao dai” with broken sleeves and now I am all ready to celebrate lunar new year in my ao dai thanks to this machine. I can see myself using it to re-purpose old clothes into trivets, pillows and other nifty things around the house.

Highly recommend!!!.

In the first 6 days, I have broken 3 machine needles. I have City & Guilds qualifications as well as a degree in Textiles along with over 50 years experience of using sewing machines and in that time I have broken only a couple of needles.

Other problems experienced with this machine include the upper thread breaking and the lower thread jamming several times. All the previous reviews were glowing and my reason for buying it. As this was bought for my granddaughter, I thought it wise to try it out before giving it to her.

I’m so relieved that I did this. I’m still trying it out for a few more days before either returning it to the shop or sorting out the reason for these problems myself. It’s a lovely machine and would be ideal for a novice so I’m really disappointed.

I could not be anymore disappointed in this machine. After having a singer simple for two years my boyfriend decided to get me the 6600 for a nice gift and an upgraded machine. I was so excited and couldn’t wait to try all the new stitches and to have all the upgraded features i.

e. needle threader, multiple buttonholes, top loading easy view bobbin case etc. First huge let down was when I realized it doesn’t come with a manual. Fancy new machine with loads of fancy new features no idea and/or explanation on how to use them, bummer.

After finding the manual online on my phone and growing frustrated with the tiny text, low battery and screen locking constantly I was eventually able to figure out how to thread the machine and how to use the top loading bobbin.

at long last it was finally time to lay some stitches! Side note the presser foot (any/all) fits so loose I was really hesitant to even begin stitching. It’s not that it just moves up and down to account for the different fabrics like most machines, this thing wobbles side to side as well as actually having a slight horizontal twist all of which seems very sketchy specially given the speed at which it sews.

Of which I was also unprepared for, it feeds fabric through so fast! Takes some getting used to but not necessarily a negative. So I’ve now had the machine just over ONE Month, and I had to call into singer support because I keep breaking needles, and not just a couple I’ve literally broken 7 needles in two days!! The kicker is that I’m only trying to sew through 2 layers of terry cloth!!! A Heavy Duty machine that can’t sew through TWO layers of terry cloth are you kidding me?! The lady on the phone said I would wed to bring it to the closest warranty facility to have it realigned, seems simple right? Except the nearest warranty facility is 5 HOURS away! She says “oh! well, you can always just ship it to them, but you’ll have to pay the postage and hopefully it isn’t damaged during shipping”.

“But once it’s there singer will pay for the repair parts and labor”. I ask about how long do these kinds of repairs usually take to which she informed me that it’s a privately owned repair shop so it depends on their schedule and their techs.

long story short calling this machine heavy duty is about like calling tissue paper card stock. there are FAR better machines on the market at this price point. I’ve switched back to my singer simple and have had no issues getting through the two layers of terry cloth for my project.

I grew up with my mother owning a Singer. They just feel different than any other machine I’ve tried. (I’ve killed three other brands in the past ten years. Usually by the end of the first project. ) I have completed five projects and I’m half way through six and seven on this new Singer.

I am very impressed with the 6600C. My mother’s machine was black and had a reversable plate for selecting a stitch (early-mid 90’s). I think it had 100+ stitches. It may have had more stitch options but the 6600C sewed through canvas and denim like it was butter! I love it and I hope that it lasts longer than my mothers (which was a very long time)!.

I bought this machine a few months ago and was very impressed at how quiet the motor is for a machine that stitches a project so quickly. I had no problem sewing through layers at a consistent speed – compared to other machines where I’d have to slow down substantially out of fear of breaking the needle.

I only wish it had more speed control where I could start out a slower pace and gradually increase as needed or vice versa. I am still a novice at installing zippers and it would be helpful. I did end up returning this machine because of that one reason.

But other than that, this machine really delivers and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a great heavy duty machine.

First, the good. This machine feels sturdy, built to an expected standard and comes with a number of accessories that would be add-ons in the 44xx series. The color and the included accessories are the only tangible differences between the machines.

The number of stitches available is nice, but definitely overkill for my work. Now, the medium. Heavy duty is definitely a marketing term. This is more of a “durable home machine”. I knew this going in, but is still worth noting.

As a result, there are some issues of stitch consistency if you are using this on thicker fabrics. You must use proper technique to get the results you desire. The new machine will showcase lack of ability.

Lastly, the bad/ugly. This machine has a straight stitch setting that will NOT stitch straight. I expected more from the most popular brand and a heavy duty machine. It does not matter which presser foot, what needle (name brand or other), the speed, the tension, the fabric, and every other variable i could think of.

The straight stitches are Always at a slant. Further issues arise with the consistency of the feed dogs. Setting a stitch length seems to mean nothing. I get wildly inconsistent spacing regardless of the feed method I use.

The two most basic features of a sewing machine (straight stitch and consistent stiches) are non-existent with my particular 6380 unit. Worse than that is the customer support. When i reached out regarding my straight stitch issues, i had to spend more than a week going back and forth via email while tech support made me go through their troubleshooting checklist line by line before acknowledging they had no idea why my machine wasn’t working as intended.

After admitting they didn’t know how to help me, I was passed back to a customer service representative to ask for a return/refund. That was over a week ago now that i reached out to customer service with the request and have yet to hear back.

So now i have a paperweight of a machine and a very sour taste for singer in my mouth. Your mileage may vary, but i’m now stuck with having wasted money and looking at other brands of machines.

Very straightforward machine. If you took home-ec in school, you can use this easily! I have owned “computerized” or digital machines in the past; they make me crazy trying to micro-manage my creativity! THIS machine is powerful, and to-the-point.

Manual adjustment of stitch tension, length, and style. That’s it. Pick your needle according to fabric weight, choose the right thread, TEACH yourself how to tension/loosen the stitches on scrap fabric that matches the fabric for your project, and the machine reliably and strongly does what you’ve asked.

I am just a “hobby” / mending / personal alterations type sewer, but I wanted to be SURE that when I went to hem some jeans or patch a heavy coat that I would not be stuck with a wimpy machine struggling to punch through many layers of sturdy fabric.

This machine has delivered. As for the “reconditioned” designation, the machine I received was COMPLETE with everything it originally came with, original instruction manual, in original box, and in all ways appeared and works like a NEW machine.

I have not been compensated in any way to write this up; I just give credit where credit is due and this is the right machine for a very good price for my expectations.

I am in love with my Singer Heavy Duty 6380 Sewing Machine! Singer has honestly knocked the ball out of the park with this particular machine! I kid you not!! This sewing machine has quickly become my best friend, it truly is a work horse.

It has so many features that make sewing more fun and not seem like a chore. It’s compact and lightweight, comes pre threaded, has an extension table that’s included, 110 stitch applications making it ideal for thick fabric or really almost any fabric, makes sewing denim a breeze, offers 50% more power and extra high sewing speed makes sewing fun! The best part is the company is one we’ve all come to know and love with any/all of our sewing needs as they’ve been around for many, many years.

In fact some of my best memories have their products in them. If you are looking for that perfect sewing machine I strongly urge you to give this one a few stitches and you to will see why I love it so much! The only problem I have is keeping my teenage daughter’s paws off of my machine.

joking! Honestly it’s allowed me and her to make so many projects for her 4-H group in school and many other projects around our home, especially curtains and quilting!.

This refurbished Singer 44S was purchased to be shipped to a friend in another state. It arrived quickly in two days. but without needed accessories for it to even sew! It’s online description did not state what accessories it included, but the photos on the left side of the webpage show a machine with a buttonhole foot, an all purpose/zig zag foot and the large thread spool cap.

It arrived without any of those and also did not have its small spool cap, nor the button sewing on foot, and not the zipper foot either. If you know about sewing machines, you know all those are needed or the machine can’t sew.

Other small items were also missing, such as a pack of needles and a lint brush, etc. IMHO those are of little concern. The missing accesories could be a one off mistake, but the machine does not even seem refurbished! Even though cosmetically OK, the machine has a straight stitch foot on it and the stitch width was set as wide as it could be set.

The tension dial was set to 7. Even a sewist would not set up a machine that way, let alone a tech refurbishing a sewing machine. No way. Strangely, the 44S accessory package does not even have a straight stitch foot as part of its package, so a tech refurbishing the sewing machine would not have left that on there instead of putting on a general purpose/zig zag foot it’s supposed to have on it.

This is an AS IS machine and not a refurbished one. My friend can’t test sew with it to know if it even sews well without the needed accessories. The word accessories sound like these items are superfluous, but they are actually imperative to sewing with the machine.

It could have exchanged with this machine picked up by FedEx and another one sent. but the question to online customer service was if this refurbished machine sold and shipped by Walmart is supposed to include accessories or not.

since it’s not verbally described in its webpage online. The very nice customer service reps could not assure that the machine is to have accessories or not. I’ve bought several refurbished sewing machines in years past and they were always well set up with everything in their accessories package as offered when new.

but that was well explained in their webpages. Online customer gave me the address and phone number to the distribution center and I will certainly contact them tomorrow. Thank you for reading this long review.

I have five granddaughters between the ages of 10and 15 who are interested in learning to sew! I got this sewing machine to teach them as the machine I have is far too involved for them! It is heavy duty and has alot of weight to it so it doesn’t move around while sewing.

The machine is easy to thread as each step is numbered on the machine. The bobbin also has a picture of how it goes in. The machine sews nice even stitches and has the capability of several other stitches as well and this is done very easily by just turning the dial and stitchsettings.

The machine also has a reverse button which is another easy to use feature. It also has a light but I wish the light covered a little more surface area! It came with all-of the basic needs for sewing including a couple of extra presser feet , extra bobbins, and a buttonhole attachment.

My first granddaughter who is 10 tried it out and caught on quickly especially with how to thread it because of the numbers on the machine. Using it was an extremely positive experience for her first time sewing! The manual for it is available on line which I downloaded for reference.

It comes with a cloth dustcover which is important to use to keep it free of dust particles in the air when not in use. Overall I found this to be a great machine for beginners, crafters and those with basic sewing machine needs.

Great quality as Singer is known for and also easy to use for those with little or no experience. I would highly recommend!.

I did a lot of research about heavy duty sewing machines before buying the Singer 44S from Walmart. Many persons who “MYOG” (Make Your Own Gear) said that the Singer 4400 series can handle 1000D Cordura, but I think they are only sewing a couple of layers (to make wallets, pouches, and covers).

I had trouble using this Singer 44S to sew a backpack made out of 500D Cordura (half the weight of 1000D Cordura). The 0. 8A motor isn’t strong enough to power through more than 5 layers of 500D Cordura with webbing, which sadly means that I can’t use the Singer 44S because where the shoulder straps join the pack are too thick.

I had to hand-crank the 44S to get it to punch through the several layers of material. It does handle thick thread like Size 69 (tex 70) bonded nylon milspec thread easily with the top tension dialed up to 9 (maximum) and the standard factory bobbin tension and a size 90/14 topstitch needle.

That’s definitely more than our general-purpose Juki HZL-F400 sewing machine can handle (that can only go up to size 46 (tex 45) bonded nylon thread). I definitely think the Singer Heavy Duty series are truly heavy duty–they’re just not heavy duty enough for my purpose.

If the Singer 44S had a stronger motor, it might work for making backpacks–or, if I only made ultralight packs out of materials no thicker than 200D. Also, it’s very hard to get the pedal to go at slow speeds, and there is no speed control on the machine itself.

Our Juki F400’s pedal is much, much better at speed control. I’ve had to remove several stitches that were ruined by the Singer 44S pedal suddenly bursting in speed. For now, I will return the Singer 44S (thank you, Walmart, for the excellent return policy).

Since the 70’s I have had the same Singer model Stylist 534, matter of fact 3 of them over time. They were the last of the cast iron head machines and were work horses and sturdy. A few weeks ago my last one broke a gear and to have a local shop fix it or replace it from Ebay was costly.

I also have a newer Singer with all kinds of fancy stitches I do not use, but did not like it because it sounds like plastic, a pain to thread and did not have the power! So I after decades, I started looking at the new Singers.

(I have sewn for 6 decades. ) Much to my surprise Singer has metal frame machines again and I busied myself doing research on the difference in models and read reviews. Since I sew home decorator items, slipcovers and reupholster, I needed something that was basic and could sew thick upholstery fabrics and thin like sheers.

After comparing a number of the metal frame machines, this little unit fit the bill and budget. So, I brought it home and was thrilled to see it was very similar to what I had and sewed like a dream.

After sewing several sets of drapes and doing some mending on some sheers, I am sold that I made the right choice. Thank you Singer!.

I bought a singer 44s machine from wallmart, a month ago. i just finished sewing 15000 masks for charity, mostly on a Husquvarna machine, and I wanted a backup for this machine, 2 1/2 years old. Since then the Husquvarna has simply given up the ghost.

The singer I assumed was a good enough quality I did not register or get the extra warranty. Today, after getting the timing reset yesterday, the bobbin case fell apart in my hand. Having a LOT of experience on three other machines in the last three years, this is not operator error.

Avoid the so called singer heavy duty machines all together. The only good thing is these machines are easier to clean than my vintage white and singer machines. My blankets for newborns will have to wait untill I get a reliable machine again.

FYI, I also have made 350 recieving blankets and 149 baby bed quilts since the start of the pandemic.

I had bought this same sewing machine about four years ago. It worked great. My only complaints wete that it was loud, didn’t have an extension table, and the screw driver/remover tool was hard to use.

Just before Christnas, it started messing up. It was beyond my expertise of repairs, and I didn’t have to to have it repaired. I had two Christmas orders to finish. My only option was to purchase a new machine.

I was able to finish my orders with the nrw one, but it was a struggle to do so. It keeps breaking needles, breaking and fraying thread, is very loud, it skips stitches, the thread keeps bunching up, and you can actually hear the bobbin “jumping” around.

I have been trying to make bowl cozies. I’ve gone through 6 to 7 packages, not needles, but packages of needles because it keeps breaking them. It has bent and broken them so badly that the throat plate is scratched and nicked.

I sewed many rag quilts, hundreds of bowl cozies, and a lot of other things with my original one and never had this kind of trouble. I’m hoping that I can return it and get one that works right.

This is a great little sewing machine. Nothing really fancy about it, but a nice little starter machine. I won’t be using this as my main machine, because I have one that I’ve been using for 4 years now, but it’s definitely going to be a good backup.

I’m also going to let my daughter learn on this when she gets a little older. It seems to be made with metal somewhere because it is heavy for its size. It doesn’t feel like metal though. The body is textured and matte.

It comes with all the attachments as usual for Singer. Extra feet, needles, bobbins, and the extension table. As a quilter, this is greatly appreciated. It does have a free arm. There is a cover that goes around it that can be removed.

Great for hemming legs and sleeves. Included is also a little dust cover. It’s nothing special but is nice that there is something to go over it. I think Singer is an excellent brand and this machine is great for small projects and quilting.

I am impressed.

I’ve always owned Singer sewing machines but it was definitely time for an upgrade. On my previous machine thicker materials (denim, heavy canvas, some upholstery fabrics) were a challenge, especially if I needed to go through multiple layers.

This Singer solved all those problems. It swiftly moves these heavier weight fabrics right through with ease – I’ve even put some lighter weight leather and suedes through with no problems. Set up is easy and clear indicators to adjust stitch count.

The accessories included are thoughtful and useful. And the addition of the bed extender is a game changer when using heavier weight fabrics. Don’t be fooled to think this is just for heavy duty projects – it also handles delicate fabrics with care.

Certainly recommend and am excited to use the machine for years to come.
