Great first sewing machine. Granddaughter loves it. She has started sewing on the slow speed using her foot on the pedal. Several pieces of material provided, also a pattern for clothes for the doll.

The tension is difficult to adjust and the thread does stick behind the tension wheel, so make sure you slacken it off by hand when you need to pull the material from under the foot, otherwise the thread or needle will snap.

Needle threader is really useful. Needle safety cover is an essential safety feature for an 8 year old. A good present and value for money.

It was brilliant and very safe for my 8yr old Grand daughter. She loved it made Aldi sew skirt, with help. Only problem is she wants to wear the skirt all the while, as she is that pleased with it. I found the sewing machine was made very well.

Next she is going to make some Barbie clothes for the doll.

Quite tricky to set up. Came without any patterns for clothes? Once you do get it going it is ok. I feel it’s more a gimmick? Probably better going for a proper childs sewing machine and a barbie pattern book.

The tension that holds the bobbin in place isn’t working right. The machine works briefly and then jams up repeatedly. I had an older Singer sewing machines from 20 years ago and I never had any issues which I bought in 2001.

I decided to treat myself to a new machine and it’s awful. This one I’m having issues with the bobbin mechanism for some reason. I’ve tried different tension settings and it jams up every time with the thread getting stuck somewhere.

I really don’t think it’s built well. Since I waited too long to open the box and use the sewing machine, I’m past the 90 days. I have no choice but to donate the product. I called the store where I bought it and the customer service person was very nice, but she said she can’t take a sewing machine back that’s been opened and also it is past 90 days.

She instructed me to contact Singer and ask about warranty information. I did just email them and ask for a refund or credit to purchase a better sewing machine as I’m wondering if a heavy duty machine would be made better.

In my previous Singer sewing machine from 20 years ago, the bobbin was easily accessible in a horizontal layout directly under the needle with an easy metal door that slid open and closed. The way this new machine is designed I have to take off a big plastic container that feels cheap and then the bobbin is held vertically in a metal holder.

The entire metal holder has to be removed for me to change out the bobbin, and threading it through this metal holder looks like a really poor design. It’s not easy to wrap the thread through the metal bobbin holder and then I still need to physically keep it all together while I place the unit back into the sewing machine, and swing the small metal bobbin door open so it will pop back into place.

After reading some reviews that a 6 year old can use the machine, I am convinced the machine I bought was either broken and returned to the store without the sales people knowing it was opened, or there is a defect in manufacturing it.

The Singer 1304 Start is my newest and favorite acquisition after experiencing the shortages the Covid-19 pandemic caused in 2020. I’m older than 70 and have used many sewing machines over the years.

i bought the Start in-store at Jo Ann a few days ago. It weighs only nine pounfs, exactly right for me. I was pleased the needle was easy to thread due to the eye being front to back. I could thread it without using a needle threader.

The bobbin winder worked perfectly. The bobbin and bobbin case reminded me of my sewing days long ago and were easy for me handle. My first project was to shorten the hems of a pair of slacks. The straight stitches were perfect.

Just for fun I tried the various stitches and buttonhole foot on fabric scraps. They too were perfect. I love this straightforward machine and its reasonable price of $119. Some of the reviews I’ve read were complaints about the bobbin winder and the bobbin case.

Most likely these were user error problems, specifically incorrect threading. No machine will. produce perfect stitches if the the spool and bobbin are not threaded the right way. This is a manual machine.

No computers. No software involved. No tedious menus to search through. A beginner can use it with no fuss. With supervision a child can use it. An experienced sewist looking to simplify will appreciate this lightweight self.

I have sewed for over seventy years and always on a Singer. I started on my Mother’s old treadle machine and upgraded as I grew. I have Macular Degeneration and when i went almost blind last summer i gave my current machine away.

With the injections they have my eyesight back to (almost) 20/40 and i wanted to start some small projects. Like shortening some pants. So i bought this little 1304 last week. Boy do i wish i had my old machine back! It took me hours to wind three bobbins and I finally with a couple of phone calls got the front piece off and the bobbin in the case and in the machine.

Now to thread the top – I can’t move the handwheel. I just don’t know what to do next. I would take it back but i threw away the box it came in. There is no help on the website for this problem. And yes, i did check that the bobbin spindle is in the correction position.

I have only had it for 3 hours and I like it! It is a replacement for my old CE4000, which finally died (I gave it a mock funeral) after 15 years. So far, I have done test stitching, reinforced a seam on a new shower curtain, and mended a pair of pants.

I am not an expert seamstress. I make little craft items, and I use my machine for basic clothing repairs, etc. I think this machine will do the job just fine for the next 15 years. Two things I have noticed: a.

the bobbin winder is now plastic instead of metal. Yuck. b. the storage compartment has not gotten better – it’s still “open” and your stuff will fall out if it’s not in a bag or pouch. Brother used to include a pouch and yeah.

no longer. You have to provide your own. c. the auto needle threader is now mostly plastic – seems fragile and I’m afraid of it. On the good side, here are the improvements over my old machine (the CE4000) 1.

the screwdriver is angled so that it will work, without slipping and scratching the plate. Yay! 2. the bobbin case seems far more well designed on this machine. 3. It does seem like it’s far quieter and less loud – also, you can set the speed as you wish.

This is awesome. 4. it’s lighter than my old machine. 5. thread tension seems to be spot on right out of the box. 6. (i wish they would tell you what size needle is installed – I mean, in the actual machine when you remove it from the box.

) I couldn’t tell, but I’m guessing it’s a universal, maybe a 12? 7. the manual was well-written this time. 8. it purrs. it does. 9. Auto one step button hole – this is a non-negotiable for me. It does it well! And in different styles! 10.

I don’t think I will use all the stitches in my lifetime, but it’s nice to have those choices. For someone like me, who does basic sewing/mending/craft items, it does beautiful straight, zig-zag, overcast stitches that are just easy to use.

This is a great machine for someone who doesn’t want to spend their life savings on a sewing machine, will use it occasionally, and will learn with it. Great job, Brother USA!.

I received this product from Brother for free in exchange for my honest opinion / review of the product. This machine is GREAT! I am a novice sewer at best and this machine is very easy to use. The self threading needle had me a little stumped, as I couldn’t get the mechanism to move as it should but threading it by hand took little to no effort.

There are numbers and arrows stamped into the plastic upper body of the machine that allow anyone to thread the machine by just following along. The bobbin is also self threading and just as simple to do.

follow the lines and numbers and viola. Putting the bobbin in place. Literally drop and pull. there is a built in thread cutter that gives a clean break every time as well No fraying thread! The machine itself is well crafted with a sturdy / hard plastic material resulting in a solid machine that is lightweight and easy to carry / move about.

An onboard tool box can be easily removed to make room for an extra “table” giving you an additional 14 inches of work space. In the pouch that you will find inside the tool box you will find 5 extra feet, 3 needle packs and extra bobbins as well.

After unpacking the machine, there are several parts to install/put together. The power supply and foot pedal were easy to plug in and start using. The operation panel is easy to read and you can change the stitch size and style with the simple press of a button.

I love that there is an attachment on the side that you can store accessories in. This makes trying to keep up with small parts so much easier! Accessories included are about 12 different types of needles/stitch parts in order to sew different items.

Monogramming is my new favorite stitch! Other accessories include a cleaning brush, screwdriver and an extra spool pin. Threading the Brother machine is also very easy. Thankfully the instruction manual is well written and easy to read! I love how there are multiple ways to thread depending on the style of stitch you plan on using.

This machine was supposed to be an upgrade from my basic model but I would give anything to have my old machine back. At least it could handle more than 2 layers of fabric. I had never broken a needle in my 10 years of sewing until I tried using this one.

Broke the first needle within 30 minutes of using the machine. It’s supposed to be good for quilting but I just broke another needle (the 5th since owning this machine) while trying to sew the backing, batting, and top layers of my quilt together.

I changed the needle and rethreaded top and bobbin, now it doesn’t work at all. the Needle keeps getting hung up on something inside and jamming. It’s a shame that I’ve had it for 2 months and have only used it a handful of times.

Save your money and by the basic sewing machine models, you will be much happier.

I was so excited to get this machine, did my research and it arrived promptly. I am not a beginner but read all thru the booklet anyway. I am beyond disappointed! The tension refuses to cooperate which causes broken thread.

The various decorative stitches either do not work at all or change in the middle of a project!! When you adjust the speed to a certain level, all of a sudden it speeds up by itself. Lighting is poor.

Very noisy. I paid to have maintenance done by a reputable company after only a month and that did not correct anything! After having to take a project apart 6 times yesterday. I am over this machine.

Its brain has gone berserk! I have had the machine 4 months, done everything the manual says to correct these issues and now am told they don’t stock it anymore so. no replacement. I now have to pay to ship it back plus a restocking fee.

Why would you restock a machine that does not work? I would gladly have accepted a new machine of the same kind, thinking this one is just defective. No cooperation there. Against “policy”. I guess they worry more about policy than making a customer happy.

So I read the reviews on cs6000i. Actually the reviews are why I bought this machine. The machine is broken. I heard about how great their policy on fixing and such. So I call Brother. The hand wheel seized up and there is oil in the bottom of it.

Now I am told that I can take it to a sewing center to be fixed. I might add that is 30 minutes away so they can fix it. I may or may not have to pay for it. It may or may not be covered under warranty.

Soi have to say I won’t purchase again based on customer service. The machine has only been in use for 2 months. This makes me sad at the least.

This was my first sewing machine and although it comes with picture instructions which are great, they are made for people who know where everything goes. There are many demonstration videos on you-tube and I fully recommend watching one of these videos.

I got confused with the instructions 1 and 2 because I didn’t realise that I needed to put cotton onto a bobbin and I got part way then was stumped. Fortunately my husband knew that I had to slide the bobbin to the right and he also told me that once it’s full it will stop itself and you don’t have to worry about it overfilling.

Then the bobbin case foxed me, I spent an hour trying to work out how to get the bobbin out of the bobbin case, gave up and went to bed. Next day I shared my frustrations with my husband who just popped the darned thing straight out as I stared in wonder.

My error was to pull out the lever at the back but that is what you do to stop it falling out. I do actually love everything about it and having the free arm to turn up trousers is brilliant it works perfectly.

I’m still not sure how all the stitches work but I expect it’s just a matter of playing around and watching videos. I would have given this 5 stars but that automatical needle threader is almost impossible even with you-tube tutorials.

I bought this mid-summer this year. It’s only been a few months and it’s been just a massive box of problems. I had to replace multiple parts to get it in okay working condition. Even then, if I don’t oil the machine literally every half an hour, it goes down hill.

The bobbin is constantly having issues. The tension is also never working. I change the tension dozens of times, only to have it work on the original setting I had it on hours later. It’s constantly jamming and making noises.

The machine shakes as I sew and the storage tray constantly falls off while I sew. It makes the entire sewing experience awful and I’ve always found sewing peaceful and enjoyable. It only someone’s finished the stitching and always skipped threads.

I changed my needle dozens of times and changed to different types of threads. Also, the weirdest thing about this machine is I cannot go over the slowest or second slowest speed. If I do, it immediately jams itself.

So I need to spend an unnecessarily long time sewing one line. I really wanted to make it work, but it didn’t. Overall, I had a terrible experience with the little amount of time I had with this machine.

This is a great sewing machine for a beginner. In my case, it is a great machine for an elderly person. My mom is 86 years old and her machine didn’t work any longer so she bought a new one at Walmart.

She was thinking a sewing machine, no matter the model, would be easy to use. After all she has been a sewer almost all her life. She was wrong about that. It was all digital and the manual was too difficult to understand.

(It wasn’t a Singer). I found her this machine and gave it to her for Mother’s Day and she couldn’t be happier. The only thing I wish it had was a manual. She doesn’t do computers so it’s impossible for her to look up anything.

I live too far away to help her so I wish you would consider “not saving” on paper, as you stated, and put a manual with the machines since not everyone has a computer.

I fully admit that I have always wanted to pick up some kind of sewing skills just for some basic life skills, but have never known where to start. I was so excited when I found out about the Cool Maker Stitch ‘N Style Fashion Studio Sewing Machine Toy so that I could finally learn a few things about sewing! The setup is beyond simple, literally you just need to add batteries to the machine and you’re pretty much good to begin.

I stuck to the instruction to the T because I really had no clue what I was doing. I cut out the pattern that went along with the instructions (you’re given a full piece of fabric with marked lines to show exactly where you need to cut to make 6 different included projects) and then I was off to sewing! I wish there was a little more information along the way but I quickly made 3 different projects and honestly started to feel comfortable with using this sewing machine.

Overall I wish there was more instruction on the different parts of sewing, I honestly ended the projects feeling like I could finally open my full size machine sometime without being too intimated. I hope to find more refills for the machine but definitely think this is a great learning tool for anyone looking to learn some basic hands-on sewing machine skills.

Stitchanie, our NuiMo, was especially impressed with the cute little sewing machine kit called “Stitch ‘N’ Style Fashion Studio!” Of course, she loves the name, but also, a small, working sewing machine (with a smart sensor to keep you from totally screwing it up, and a safe design so it’s impossible to see through your finger like I did in Home Ec back in the day!) is just pretty awesome.

We were able to sew a little glasses case right away, but it would be nice if they gave you some practice scraps to try on first. (We’re pretty new at sewing). The little Hydro-Stickers (like temporary tattoos for fabric!) you use to decorate were the best part, though.

We love the little sponge you dab the designs with. The only problem is that while I understand the benefit of being able to wash them out and start again, we like ours and want them to stay. So maybe we’ll try a little Mod-Podge? Anyway, a very fun product and we look forward to making the other enclosed projects and then experimenting with our own.

I used a relative’s Janome sewing machine and really liked it. I ordered mine on Walmart online because they had the most variety to compare. This machine is very easy to use just pay attention to how to thread it correctly.

The instruction booklet is very helpful for all the different functions. I use it for mending and simple alterations.

I am very pleased with my purchase. Runs very quietly and smoothly. So far I have only hooked it up to make sure it worked and check the stitching but unless something unforeseen should appear(which I do not think will happen) I am very pleased.

I am looking forward to spending a great deal of time enjoying the use of the machine. It is not a high dollar machine but it is a good machine. A lot of people think that the more expensive the machine is; the better they will be able to sew but that is a fool’s dream.

I learned to sew on an old treadle machine (and wish I still had it) and while the new machines can make a lot of pretty designs, they cannot make a seamstress out of someone. Either you can sew or you can’t.

The designs the machines make cannot teach you to cut and follow a pattern or know how to join the pieces of fabric. You need a knowledgeable seamstress to teach someone how to truly sew. So, while the top line machines are fun; if you really want to sew find someone to teach you before investing in an expensive machine.

Despite having this sent to an old address this sewing machine is a dream! Solid that you can feel with every touch and every function. This is a real work horse for performing straight forward non-fancy stitching jobs.

Easy to use. Glad I finally chose a smaller non-digital machine so I can focus on actual sewing instead of on how to use and repair a smart sewing machine!.

I’m a novice at sewing and needed to replace our 40 y/o machine with one that has a free arm. After using the Singer site to pick a model, the M3300 fit our needs. Then used Google Shopping to find the best price.

Clicked “Place Order” and it arrived just 41 hours later, in brand new, unopened, retail packaging. Watched a couple youtube videos to get oriented and found it a breeze to operate. Came pre-threaded, however the bobbin was inserted backwards, ie: rotating CCW as you pull the string, opposite of what the video shows.

The needle threader takes a little practice, but found if you reduce string tension, it feeds easier. Very pleased with the product and price.

I brought this machine because I desperately wanted to make masks for myself, family, friends and donations. The higher priced models were sold out and the stores weren’t open. I read the previous reviews and told myself I only needed a basic machine so I brought this model.

It does wonderful on threading a bobbin and easy to tread the needle and that’s where it all ends. Haven’t been able to make a single mask using the machine. It locks up, with multiple treads coming from the bobbin, the needle tread constantly breaks and it doesn’t do the reverse well at all.

The tread breaks and it locks up. It must be a tension issue. I’ve been so hurt by my purchase and embarrassed that I couldn’t get it to work that I stopped making masks. I have a serger that I was using and hand sewing the parts that needed a regular machine.

I wanted a more professional product to give my family and friends and to donate. I wanted them to stand up to constant wearing and washing and not be fragile due to the hand sewing. The whole situation is heartbreaking because I first learned to sew using the Singer brand machine.

I thought I was purchasing a quality product. I’m ashamed and embarrassed for taking so long to tell the truth about the machine. I feel sorry for the people who wrote positive reports because perhaps they got the machine free or at a reduced cost.

Perhaps its all user error. I’m not perfect by any means of ones imagination. I don’t want hate mail because I’m sharing my experience with the product, but I feel obligated to write and share what it was like for me.

The machine cost me $112 at Michaels, not a horrific loss, but it still hurts in todays economy. So I won’t donate this machine because I don’t want another person to feel the way I do after spending money for a worthy case.

I’m sad because I feel that the company has put profit before people and that really never works out long term.

More than 20 years ago I worked in a fabric store that had a SINGER dealer inside. People bought machines and they had the same trouble with them as these people are complaining about now. Only they couldn’t return them, they had to be sent out for repair under the 90 day warranty.

But they never came back untill after the 90 days was up. Then when they still had problems they had no recourse. Singer isn’t even owned by Singer anymore. They are under a large company that makes most machines, but they can’t seem to get the Singers right.

You may think you want a simple machine but for a few $$$ more you can get one with more benefits, like needle up/down and start/stop. You will wonder how you ever lived without them. Look at Janome, Brother, or Bernette.

Never a Singer!.

Horrible machine. I’ve tried about a dozen when teaching kid’s sewing classes. This machine is great if you want to discourage sewing. Of those 12, about half would not work at all right our of the box.

I could get a few working with effort. Those that did work were hard to thread, have few controls and no light (have they added a light, yet? ). I’ve dealt with two other owners trying to fix them when the timing was off.

I’ve been working with machines for a few decades and have only seen one other machine that had a timing issue.

The name doesn’t lie! This sewing machine is super easy to use. I am a beginner with very little experience previous to buying Janome. The instructions poster that is comes with is helpful but watching a video on how to thread a bobbin was more useful.

I feel like I will have this sewing machine for years to come. It doesn’t have too many stitching options but that is okay. It comes with other presser feet ( I am assuming for zippers and rolled hems?)I feel like I got the best machine to start growing my sewing skills on.

I have really enjoyed my machine! I was concerned about the quality of this machine. When I received it I fell in love with it right away. I had a piece of material and decided to give it a try. I made a cute apron and was VERY pleased with the way this machine worked! It had some fancy stitches that I tried out and was so pleased with the ease they worked.

I love the ease of use of this Singer M3220 sewing machine! It was very easy to get setup and I was working on simple projects in no time. I appreciate the simplistic design that has made its use easy to understand without the need for everything to be digital and computerized.

I’m particularly loving the Drop and Sew Bobbin system as it eliminates all the confusing steps that is involved with setting up the bobbin in other machines. I’ve been making simple coozie bowl holders and kitchen hot pads for our home and as gifts for Christmas.

The machine is lightweight which makes it easy to move from one place to another depending on where I want to work in. It provides great lighting with the StayBright LED Lighting which I always need as my eyesight isn’t as good as it used to be and wearing glasses while sewing is very uncomfortable for me.

The stitch selector dial makes it super easy to switch stitch styles which also include 108 different stitch applications to choose from. I do have another machine that I use for more heavy duty and complex projects but sometimes all the components makes it more frustrating to use so this Singer M3220 model has been perfect for quick projects.

I was able to teach my niece who’s in her early 20’s that has never touched a sewing machine in her life with easy instructions for her to understand and work the machine herself within 1 week. I’m looking forward in using this machine for many more projects in the years coming.

I do wish however that the power cord was longer as it’s only about 5-6 feet long and I find that due to my house’s outlet placements, I have to use an extension strip. Otherwise, I’m happy and satisfied!.

I haven’t touched a sewing machine in years! But using this swinger sewing machine was simple and easy! I remembered how to thread it, but even if I didn’t there are actually little numbers on the machine that tell you step by step how to thread it up the right way! Cool little feature! Especially for people beginning yo learn to use a sewing machine! I will say I learned on my great grandmothers owl singer sewing machine that folded down into a table! But honestly using this newer version was awesome! I love all the different thread patterns you can use too! Possibilities are endless! The foot pedal I had to get used to since last time I used a sewing machine I used my knee in a little lever! But it was easy to get the hang of! I love this sewing machine.

But the simplicity if this machine got me sewing again! Yes I am now a pro of making clothes for my toddlers doll baby’s and Barbie dolls! 10/10 would recommend anyone to get this machine!.

I’ve presently made handkerchiefs, closed up openings that were in my garments, and a couple of all the more little undertakings.

I was so excited to be able to review this sewing machine as I had considered getting a sewing machine for the past three months. Years ago I did a lot of sewing making children clothes, drapes, quilts, pillow covers, and my clothes.

Well, that was 30 years ago and I haven’t sewn anything recently. My last sewing machine I gave to my daughter-in-law and now feel like I need one for altering clothes. No big projects are planned and I’m not sure that I will use all the fancy stitches on this machine but after just trying this machine, I Love It.

I set up the machine following the instructions for putting the thread on the machine and threading the needle. (It has a needle threaded that actually works. ) I also loaded the bobbin with thread. All of this was pretty easy by following the pictures.

I did some test runs trying some of the stitches that are offered. I was impressed with the neat secure stitch that was made by this machine with just a simple straight stitch. My first project will be to hem a bedskirt that I feel is a couple of inches to long.

The arm of the machine comes off to make it easy to sew sleeves or hem pant legs. The machine has a light in the needle area just like most machines and also has a lever on the front which enables you to do a backward stitch to secure your stitch line.

I do wish that a longer period of time were given to review items like this Janome sewing machine because there are so many functions and possibilities to check out. Because there are so many choices to use this machine I deducted one star due to not being able to use all the offerings of the machine.

I love Janome sewing machines. I own a large expensive all the bells and whistles Janome and can tell you, their products are awesome. That being said I decided on this simple machine to have available for friends and family during crafting sessions.

The packaging was great and I received this machine in perfect condition. Once I had it unpacked I had it up and sewing in no time at all. The instructions are simple to understand and the illustrations are very helpful.

All the items that need to be set up, (thread spool, bobbin, foot pedal) took very little time. Winding the bobbin and threading the machine is so easy a beginner would have no trouble getting started.

Selecting a stitch, width and tension is also very easy. I mended a torn tee shirt and the stitching is very uniform and neat. I decided to make a small cosmetic style bag and at one point had to sew through three layers of cotton material and it was a breeze.

Perfect stitching, perfect tension. I didn’t use the button hole maker and did not get to the zipper part of my project yet, but I have no doubt they will be easy as well. The machine is small and has attractive colors on it.

The body is well made. It has a small storage place for the attachments that come with the machine. Now, why I only gave it 4 stars. The first thing I noticed was no reverse. This was not a problem for me since I learned to sew on machines with no reverse.

It does take a little more time to turn the fabric and turn it again to finish off a seam but for the quality of the machine it is not that big a deal. Next I noticed that certain parts of the machine had parts that appear to be questionable as to their durability.

The thread spool attachment is plastic and where it attaches sticks out and does not fold in or down like on my more expensive model. This would be a concern when transporting. The foot pedal is very thin light weight plastic although the electrical cord seems to be very high quality.

The light weight causes the pedal to be less stable and moves around a lot. Last, the attachments snap on and off and are made of lighter plastic and I wonder how long they will last with continuous changing.

But if you are careful and consider these issues, you should have a great time using this little workhorse of a machine. I would recommend it very highly.

I received this machine today and ran it through its paces. There were several things I liked and a few that I did not. It runs smoothly and the stitches are nice and even. It also has a selection of decorative stitches.

I am a fan of the drop in bobbin and this has it. I also like the small window in the needle plate that allows you to see how much bobbin thread remains. It is definitely a plus that you do not have to remove the free arm in order to access the bobbin (as you do in some other models by Janome.

The four-step buttonhole is easy to complete. I am not a fan, however, of the snap on/off feet. I much prefer the “magnetized” set-up where the magnetized foot is easily released and a new one picked up.

Also, the feet that are included are plastic and do not seem particularly sturdy. This is also the case with the bobbin winder pin. It is made out of plastic – metal would probably hold up much better, especially on a part that will receive constant use.

The plastic spool pin attaches to the top right rear of the machine and “sticks out” a bit. If you travel with your machine (classes, vacations, etc. ), it is a set up for it to break off or receive damage.

A retractable metal spool pin would have been a much better option. All in all, I am pleased with my purchase. I believe that for the price, the Janome MOD-19 is a good basic machine. I intend to use this for a spare or travel machine.

It would also be appropriate for a beginner.

I found the Jade 20 on sale during the pandemic mid-May (2020) and couldn’t pass up the deal. I wanted to get an affordable utility machine to be used as my mobile sewing machine when away from home, like working on a project at my mother’s, a friend’s house, or a quilting class, etc.

The stylish way the machine packs up without a separate carrying case or cover, really appealed to me. I have a Husqvarna Viking Diamond embroidery & sewing machine that I don’t like to transport. Although I did look into the Jade 35, I really don’t need another embroidery capable sewing machine, otherwise, I would have gotten that, but I would certainly recommend it for someone looking to get into machine embroidery and needs to stay within a tight budget.

Plus, you absolutely do not need to buy the expensive Viking software that many of us have. You can use just about any embroidery software on the market that fits your budget (i. e. Embird, SewWrite, SewArt, SewWhat Pro, Wilcom Hatch, etc.

). Husqvarna Viking brand machines have always been my favorite since 1980 when I got my first one as a teen (a 5710 painted in the old ‘Viking burgundy red’ color). I’ve traded up over the years to my current sewing and embroidery machine, the Husqvarna Viking Diamond.

All of my Vikings have been made in Sweden, until this Jade 20 (Made in Thailand) so I’m curious how the quality compares. So far, it’s seems comparable. The Jade 20 is definitely a lighter weight sewing machine than my older Vikings, including the Diamond, which is perfect for transporting.

the primary reason I got the Jade 20. I still have some older 6570 model Vikings, which are mostly metal and quite heavy that I really don’t like lugging around, but they come in really handy when I’ve held sewing classes for friends or someone needs to borrow a sewing machine.

Today (June 6, 2020), I’ve been going through many of the stitches on the Jade 20, including the decorative, plus winding bobbins, and getting used to the overall lay-of-the-land and so far, I’m quite impressed! Sure, it doesn’t have the bells and whistles on my Diamond, which I don’t expect it to have (i.

e. , embroidery, auto presser foot lift, thread cutter, touch screen, auto tension, etc), but the Jade 20 is an excellent lower priced alternative with all the features someone who sews needs, without breaking the bank.

As for other reviews stating that threading the needle is difficult and the presser foot area is cramped, that is perplexing to me because it doesn’t seem all the different from my Viking Diamond. The needle threader works well, although it isn’t quite as smooth to operate as my Diamond, it certainly does work effectively.

Whenever threading any sewing machine, the presser foot needs to be “up” so the upper thread seats properly into the tension disks. But if you’ve already threaded the upper thread and just need to thread the needle, you can then lower the presser foot in order to use the threader, just be sure that the needle is at the highest position or the threader won’t line up with the eye of the needle.

When the presser foot is “down”, the thread will not pull easily from the upper thread, so be sure to allow some slack in the upper thread first if you lower the presser foot to use the needle threader.

From what I’ve seen so far using the Jade 20 myself and watching Sara’s YouTube videos under ‘Heirloom Creations’, I’d say it’s a solid machine and a great value for the price point, whether found on sale or not.

I love this sewing machine so much. Tried it out even though I haven’t done a sewing project yet, that is pending. I used to sew all my own dresses. Its the only way to get exactly what you want. Due to family health issues I had to put everything on pause and then I married my husband and moved to the UK.

I tried my friend’s sewing machine and realized how much I missed sewing. It felt good just to do a bit of a seam. Now my husband purchased this machine for my birthday, yesterday. It is my dream machine.

I had a Husqvarna White computerized machine before but the Jade 20 is so much easier to use. I find it amazing all the features it has. Sewing machines have advanced since my last machine. I am so thrilled.

The action is so smooth and it is really amazing. I look forward to using it for a lot of projects. Thanks for getting it to us so quickly too, days before it was due. I’m very impressed.

I’ve had this machine for over a year now and have worked it hard. No issues with overheating. The videos were a lifesaver in the beginning. Three things I still don’t like are: 1) poor lighting, 2) the area around the needle is too small when switching out to a walking foot or changing the needle and my hands are very small and 3) using the back stitch has a delayed reaction and I hate that.

I end up using the “fix” feature but sometimes I just want a back stitch. So four stars is the best I can give.

I am an experienced sewist, but as I am getting older and am in a small home now, I wanted to downsize to an easily portable machine. The reviews on other sites were really good, the price was reasonable, so it was purchased as a Christmas gift for me.

There is a big problem with the bobbin and top thread not hitting together in proper timing. I thought it was because I was sewing with a brushed knit and it was slipping. I tried several different fabrics, needles, settings.

no joy. I became very ill over the holiday season and until recently, so did not get it returned in time. Maybe I just got a bum machine as I have always sewn with singer machines with one exception.

That I have purchased 3 Singer models since that one means something.

Trust me! I have been sewing for some years now. I first bought the machine as it was light and easier to travel with but, the first issue I had was the bobbin case had problems. So, I returned it and got the 2nd one again it has issues.

I don’t recommend this machine to anyone.

i almost didn’t make it past winding the bobbin and threading the needle to actually sewing anything because the diagrams in the “quick start” were so inscrutably bad, not to mention there is literally no context provided for what you’re doing.

consider the absolute beginner, please! also, the manual itself was not provided–i had to figure out that i needed to download it. now, on to actually trying to sew something.

I got this for my 15 year old daughter who lives with her Dad out in NY and she loves it. She kept saying this summer when I was with her that she wish she had a sewing machine and remembered that and got it for Christmas and she loves it.

I went to order off of another site and they didnt have what I wanted and so I saw this one and thought perfect for a beginner. She is having fun with it. She is making a few little things for her cats.

they hate her now. This is one of the best purchase I made for her. But never underestimate what you say to someone else for a gift as it can show up at the doorstep. Be careful of what you wish for.

Recieved this item broken. I dont think it was Wal-Marts fault. However they didnt help either let me explain. Wal-Mart only put about a long 12 inch foam into the package to protect my sewing machine.

This was obviously not enough cushion or protection. Therefore resulting in the most likely explanation of delivery drives throwing it around til it arrive to me. I get things get broken en route. Just disappointed because I now have to GO INSIDE the store to return it.

Exactly what I was avoiding during this stay at home. Ive called 3 local walmarts and they have all denied my returned because returns might be contaminated. Great so I have a product thats broken, I can’t return and a credit card bill that won’t magically disappear.

Just disappointed.

I got this for my 10 year old granddaughter for Christmas, she has wanted to learn how to sew like Mimi and this is perfect! she has already made pillows and started on making quilt squares. Perfect size to teach on.

I wanted a machine that would cover the array of projects I have in mind from making blankets & pillows through to stitching leather waistcoats. Delighted with this purchase.

The Sew Simple line of Singer sewing machines are not minis, but are light and easy to store aware and pull out when you need them. They accept all standard size Singer accessories, like needles and feet, and do hundreds of stitches by just spinning two dials to different settings.

They are husky, too, of sturdy stock, and I think it will serve me well for the rest of my life. You can download the user guide from the Singer website and you should actually read it before you start using the machine.

There are several very good YouTube videos on how to use the 3223 which I also recommend you watch as they show you how to quickly get started and how to correctly use the stitch programming dials. The videos helped a lot.

This machine sews beautifully. It is my go to for any thing thick or bulky. I just love it. The stitches are even and nice. I use it for mending my grandkids clothes, for rope baskets, quilting and more.

I wish I had bought this a long time ago. You can’t miss on this machine.

Nice machine. It was extremely daunting at first particularly since the bobbin is not a top load. I had problems figuring out the tension but now that I have I really like the machine. Once I do a couple more things with it, it will probably be my go-to machine.

Absolutely love the sewing machine. High quality machine. Stitches very fast. Heavy machine but does not jar the sewing table. Machine is quiet compared to others.

I was looking for a starter sewing machine that wouldn’t be too expensive and this one delivers! It was really easy to use and learn on (lots of youtube videos available). It is hard to set the speed and I wish it had a speed cap/control because it does tend to go fast once you step on the pedal.

Otherwise I am very happy with this and think it’s a great buy for a beginner and someone who is more advanced. I just fixed a corduroy skirt and made a linen shirt and it has held up great for both fabrics.

I bought this as a gift for my 11 year old daughter. My mother who is an advanced quilter and has been sewing for decades helped me choose it for her. We wanted something sturdier than something you would find at Walmart but not as expensive as a Bernina.

This seems to fit the bill.

I love my new sewing machine. There are 2 things I would change, however. One is the needle that threads front to back. I can’t get the auto threader to work. My hand gets in the way and it’s hard to see with progressive lenses.

The same thing happens when I try to thread it by hand. A right to left direction would be better. The other change I would make is to put the lever for the presser foot on the left side, freeing the right hand to manipulate the fabric, cut with scissors,etc.

The Brother CP80X 80-Stitch Computerized Sewing Machine is excellent for beginners. I have been sewing since I was 15, but not consistently, and I’ve ALWAYS hated threading through the machine in like 16 steps! The Brother CP80X makes it MUCH easier.

In fact, I have more motivation to start and finish new and old projects because it’s so easy to use! The handy stitch reference on the front panel is a timesaver if I ever saw one. I lose everything so this is awesome for me.

There is a large work area, so this machine is a godsend for quilters! I have yet to start my quilting adventures, but am looking forward to it now. The included Quilt Design Software Bundle makes quilting easy for us newbies! The accessories pouch is a nice addition and super helpful to have around.

I received this product for free from Brother in exchange for my honest review. I was extremely excited to get this sewing machine, quilting has been an interest for a long time that just never was in the budget to get started.

It comes with so much stuff and there are video tutorials for pretty much everything that has to do with the machine. The computerized part is nice, it looks confusing at first but once I started playing with it I understood it fairly quickly.

The bottom bobbin is so shockingly easy to change, I think that was the most mesmerizing part for me, I’ve never had a machine that made it so easy to change that one. The many many different stitches are great for any project and I’m amazed by how many different stitches there even is.

I had no idea there was so many different ones to pick from. Fabric feeds through it smoothly, it doesn’t catch or anything like that. It’s overall just a great sewing machine to start anyone out, between all the extras it comes with and all the tutorials anyone can be sewing in no time.

I have been using an older model sewing machine and this Brother CP80X is certainly an upgrade to my old sewing machine. It was so easy to set up and I was sewing in no time! This machine has so many great features including an easy needle threading system, 80 built-in stitches, eight auto-sizes buttonholes, easy to read LCD display screen, a quick-set drop-in top bobbin, and so much more! I love that it also comes with a pouch that has additional accessories too.

I love that I can be really creative in designing my quilts with the quilt design software that comes with this machine. This Brother sewing machine is easy enough for a beginner and it is ideal for an advanced seamstress.

I bought the machine on sale at Aldi. Had not sewn for years and wanted to sew for my new granddaughter. The first three outfits I made went well except the buttonholer worked on the practice but not on the garment.

After ripping out twice, I went with snaps. Yesterday a needle bent on thick fabric and I replaced it. Today the needle got stuck down while sewing. I cut the threads and got it to come up but now when the needle tries to go down, it hits something in the bobbin assembly.

I took that apart and cleaned it, but after putting everything back, it still won’t work. The repair shops in my area won’t fix it and said it was junk. Now I plan to return it and buy a better brand.

I bought this sewing machine when I first began to learn, I did small things like pillows, and pillow cases, but after a good 2 months of using it it broke. The bobbin began to get really messed up and I tried getting new bobbins, rethreading the machine, even took it to a professional and it still didn’t help.

he bobbin would get snagged, not come out straight or even could be sewn on lose. I finally went back to Joann’s and asked to exchange it. After that I got a new one and this one worked fine until about 4 months into it when the same thing happened again! I watched video online, cleaned the whole thing, rethreaded, etc.

And it still did not work properly. I then just stopped using it because I was gifted a vintage sewing machine that works wonderful, a sewing machine from the 70s works better than this one did! I would not recommend buying this machine due to the daily break downs.

There are other machines for the same price that are better. Even though the first few months are fine, it is not worth the time, money, and frustration.
