So I used this product for my butcher block counter-top with a sink. I applied 7 coats initially while sanding in between coats. Sanding between coats gums up sandpaper, so very light sanding is recommended.
I had to wait 24 hours between coats otherwise the previous coat lifted off like a film and I had to wipe it off and restart the process. It was troublesome reapplying coats. I finally got my butcher block to an acceptable look which wasn’t perfect under regular sunlight but with the under-cabinet lights it looked perfect.
2 years later I decided to re-coat the counter-top because the butcher block had some voids that let some water in. It wasn’t the waterlox finish’s fault but crappy butcher block. But I had problems re-coating the butcher block again, this time even worse.
I put on a very thin coat at fist and it was pretty much dry to the touch, and tried to re-coat 6 hours later, only to remember my initial pains of waiting 24 hours. So I did wait 24 hours between coats and I had to deal with the stink troughout my house for 7 days.
Also waiting 24h did not help this time, the new coats kept lifting the old ones and I could scrape off coating with my nails. I tried sanding it off, to various degrees of success. So eventually i thought i finished it off, only to have the coats slowly lift off 4 months later.
When I get a particular area wet and soapy (because its a sink) i get this water-lox film coming off, it’s super annoying. I dont know how this product gets such high reviews. It is as if i have applied some paint thinner and the paint started melting and coming off.

The first step is the wood stain, or seal-a-cell if you choose to finish clear. It is a blend of oil and varnish with the heavier part being oil. This ratio allows the finish to penetrate deep into the wood surface effectively sealing it.
Once the wood is sealed, which takes only one coat unless you want the stain to be darker, the top coat, Arm-r-seal, is applied. The Arm-r-seal is a similar formula except it is heavier in varnish. This gives the finish coat its toughness and durability.
After the surface is sanded to no finer than 220 grit, the finish is applied with either a soft cotton cloth or foam brush. Thin to moderate coats work best. Once the surface is coated, use the same application tool, rag or brush, to lightly wipe off the excess going with the grain.
With a pint of the stain, or seal-a-cell, and a quart of Arm-r-Seal, you can properly finish a 100 square foot area with 1 seal coat and 3 top coats.
Formulated for application over bare wood. Seals wood grain and is easy to sand. Designed for use on unstained, bare wood, floors, furniture, doors and cabinets. Can be topcoated with any Minwax oil or water based polyurethane finish.

I used this product, based upon recommendation of in-store personnel. The Transparent Waterproofing Wood Finish Penetrating Oil was an upgrade of the product used the prior year on newly-installed fence and was a great improvement over the previous version.
It covered the fence more evenly and resisted effects of direct sun exposure experienced with previous product. I am very happy with Behr product, as well as with in-store expertise with this project; it should provide on-going protection of the fence for the future!.
I applied this to an older deck that gets full sun all day long. The deck soaked up the finish readily. With the application of two coats using a brush, the deck looked great and still does 3 years later.
Prior to putting this product on the deck I had used traditional deck stains and they showed wear within two years. I hardily recommend this penetrating oil.
