So first, this drive is geared toward portability and not top-end performance as most would want these days. When I say portability that goes toward travel not only in the states but around the world.

It comes with 6 power adapter-style plugs so you can change out depending on where you are in the world. Not only that but it also serves as a quick USB hub so you can use different peripherals through the USB 3.

Love this thing! I’ve never owned anything above a 1 terabyte external in the past, needless to say I was amazed and blown away realizing this device is 8 terabytes! First off this external HD is easy to use like most other external HD’s, simple as plugging it in via USB 3.

This Seagate external hard drive is amazing! I grabbed the 8TB and it’s a beast! The read and write speeds are as advertised at 250mbs. This external hard drive can read and while, while being used and playing games.

This is my current steam library all on this external drive. I can play games on this device even when downloading. It handles all my tasks! it’s also used for my emulators with this incredible reads and write.

I my previous device WD black external would freeze all the time, when moving on to the HDD or playing a game while downloading causing the game to crash. If you are a gamer and plan to play games & download at the same time or use this machine as emulation station, this external HDD is for you! I actually hope they come with 18tb or 20tb model cause I would buy again!.

I purchased this SSD to upgrade / replace an old 1TB Samsung 850Evo, for game storage. I was running out of space and wanted a long term solution. I could have gone with a 2TB model but the price per gig in this 4TB SSD was better.

So its a long term “investment”. I have not owned a Seagate in a long time, before they started making SSD’s, its been more than 15years. I am hoping this SSD is reliable, time will tell. In terms of current game titles there is very little difference in load times between a SATA SSD and a M.

2 one so this drive will do great for game storage. Also transferring data off this SSD will be much much faster than a HDD. Performance: I have done testing on all my various HDD and SSD’s in my computers and back up storage.

I use CrystalDiskMark with Seq Read/Write Q8T1, Random 4Kib Q32T8. I also did a 4GB file transfer test from an internal SSD to the drive on some. Tests are for general performance repeat testing gets slightly different values.

4 / 2. 9 MB/s What does this mean: Well the FireCuda is a top performer. Random speeds are similar to NVMe’s and Sequential speeds are normal or above average for Sata based SSD’s. This indicates the controller in the FireCuda is very good.

I have several PC’s in my house hold, and tested them all over time. I do have more drives I did not include for length reasons. Would I buy this again, Yes?. Depends on what the future hold for the PC industry and whether Sata starts getting phased out.

Right now it is strong and should be for the foreseeable future, so yes its a good buy.

I now own 3x 1Tb FireCuba 510 NVME SSDs and have been using two in my Scan 3XS gaming laptop and recently upgraded my desktop gaming system from an OCZ Revodrive3x2 to the Akasa PCIe Adapter with FireCuda NVMe.

I/O performance has increased from 1500 read/write to 3450 read and 3000 write, which is amazing. Laptop has dedicated 1Tb FireCuba 510 for Win10 and the other Ubuntu 20. 04. Gaming system is partitioned 50/50 with Win10/Ubuntu.

The FireCuda 510 NVMe are just as good the Samsung 960pro I have, minus 50 in write speed, and were ~£50 cheaper. It would be very hard, to impossible, to see 50 read speed difference. Great device and will buy move FireCuda devices in the future.

This new Seagate 1 TB FireCuda Hybrid SSHD was easy to physically install in the computer at my second hard drive location. First of course I removed my second hard drive prior to installing the Fire Cuda SSHD.

At this point I made a total reproduction copy of the “C” hard drive using the Seagate software found on their site for this purpose, Then I removed the original hard drive and installed the newly loaded FireCuda in the “C” drive position, plus installed the second hard drive back into its original position.

Turned on the computer and it worked correctly right from turn on. Started up various programs that I often use in order to teach the new hard drive what information to store in the SS portion of the drive.

After a few days of using the computer it continued to increase its speed. This SSHD Hybrid drive is a great improvement over the standard 7200 rpm hard drives, especially when using it for the primary “C” drive.

This is the second Seagate Hybrid SSDD that I have recently installed, and both installation went along smoothly. Also I find these Seagate 1 & 2 TB Hybrid SSHD’s to be very quiet in operation. Don’t be afraid to upgrade your existing computer with one of these Hybrid SSHD’s, because they are easy to physically install and the Seagate installationsoftware works very well.

The question that was asked of me is if this is a reliable product, well it has been for the first two weeks and only time will tell.

The PS5 is a magical game console. I bought the Digital Edition and couldn’t be happier. I don’t care about discs or playing disc games 10 years from now. But I do care about having space to download games and downloading and deleting games constantly because of running out of room is just not fun.

The big problem was I had LOTS of PS4 games and only a few PS5 games so far. I needed a place to store my PS4 games “on my PS5”. The internal storage was much too expensive for a 2TB capacity, so I instead opted for a 2TB external capacity.

The WD_Black D30 is adorable and small and I got it for $199. 99 on special. When formatted it has 1. 84 TB available for games and that’s just fine. 800 GB of PS4 games installed and I have more than that left for more games! Plus with a PS5 update I can also store PS5 games on it.

FANTASTIC! The only kicker and it’s a VERY SMALL one is that if I play a PS5 game I have to have it installed internally, but all of my PS4 games play PERFECTLY from the external SSD. No issues at all.

I know I still have an internal option to buy more space on with a “blade” SSD, but this requires a super fast spec that has super high prices for much less space. I just needed space to put my PS4 games on my PS5, now that I don’t have a PS4 anymore.

This did the trick perfectly and I opted for the 2TB size because $200 was reasonable, not ridiculous like $400 for a 1TB internal option. Now I won’t have to buy space again. Did I say the WD_Black D30 external box was cute? It is.

I have black plates instead of white on my PS5, a black controller and now a black external game storage. So pretty. I know there were other brands and other choices, but Western Digital has been a good company for me over the years for computer storage and the price was good enough, and I REALLY needed the space.

When and if internal storage is reasonably priced I might consider that but then again WD might have a 4TB+ option for around $200 in their Black model externally and I’d go for that instead. I did consider a WD 5TB storage option but it was a standard disc and would make some noise.

The PS5 Digital is silent, seriously silent, so I wanted a SSD external option. It was super easy to format and set up and it’s so nice to not have to fuss about not having enough space anymore. WD and done.

Wow! I can’t believe I am excited about a hard drive! the Kingston XS2000 2TB High-Performance Portable SSD is amazing. The Kingston XS2000 2TB High-Performance Portable SSD comes with a rubber sleeve that keeps the drive durable, water-resistant, and dust resistant.

I saved a lot of files on this drive instead of my PC (for security). Very fast transfers of even large groups of large photo files. I use it several times a week, mostly writing to it, and sometimes reading from it.

Never any problems, no corrupt sectors, etc. My PC always recognizes it (my older drives were hit and miss for recognition). Loads of space, and it seems sturdy and it never makes a sound and barely warms up even with extended use.

USB-C is great too. The drive is small enough to be carried around easily and fits in my pant pockets ( portability in a pocket ). It has freed up over 100GB of space on my laptop and now my laptop is experiencing less lag.

A great tool to help increase the capacity of your any laptop new or old.

I am very happy with the external ssd both for portable storage and as a backup device. I typically keep it connected to my desktop for automatic backups. Its small size means it takes up very little space on my desk.

When I need to bring files with me, I put on the rubber protective cover (the inclusion of which is a very nice touch) and put it in my laptop bag. It is so much smaller and lighter than my old external hard drive that it is much more convenient for traveling.

In fact, it is small enough that I could even keep it in my pocket. File transfers are quick when attached to the USB 3. 0 ports on my computer (although it also supports USB 3. 2).

I love my Kingston SSD XS2000. It’s small, portable, and durable, measuring approximately 1. 5″ w by 3″ long. Plus it’s featherlight. It kind of feels like a USB drive. Plug and Play. Compatible with Mac & PC.

I use this to run my audio software from multiple computers. The transfer speeds are good enough for me needs. Recently just recorded a chamber choir directly to this SSD from my surface go laptop. Every thing worked perfect even with my real-time file transfer being rather large.

I love the fact that I can use this to switch between my portable laptops and can then plug into my larger computer when i get into the studio for post production. This saves $ because now I don’t need travel laptops that need large internal SSDs.

This also saves time with file transferring. I love the convenience of this item. It’s very small though! Will be terrible to lose it without properly backing it up.

Works exactly as intended for my PS5 console and external SSD drive. I formatted this through the front USB port on my PS5, then I plugged it into my PS4 and began the download process of almost 2 dozen games.

The initial transfer took about an hour and a half but after that, WOW! Plugged it into the back USB port on the PS5 and now have the ability to play every single game directly from the External SSD.

It is PLENTY fast enough and there is no need to spend the extra $100 on the newer T7 model, none at all. This transfers games back and forth from internal to external with amazing speed and I have never been happier with a product like this before.

I’ve only owned 2 other external drives and this is the 1st SSD EVER! And it will not be the last. I cannot recommend the product enough. If your looking for a fast, relatively cheaper SSD for your PS5 this one works perfectly.

Just format it on the PS5 initially and it will work from that point on both systems or just your PS5. Make sure you understand how to unplug it safely. Settings, storage, external storage, Safety remove PS5.

Very fast. Great for running large Parallels or VMware Virtual machines instead of running off your internal drive. Also good to make cloned drives and run them on other machines. Great product with 2020 iPad Pro also.

Very light high quality metal device. Includes two cables. The color blends in nice with the iPad space gray. Be sure to look at the 7T which offers a thumb print encryption model as well as double the read rate for newer computers that have newer USB version.

The 5T is great for older computers that top out at 400 to 500/mbs. If you have an older computer, you may want to consider the 7T for future proofing but be aware that the extra 500/mbs (for a total of 1000/mbs) will go to waste until you get a newer computer.

The price difference on the 1TB model is not that much more and worth considering.

Purchased to augment an Xbox One gaming setup already supplemented with a 4TB traditional HD. Seemed to me as if load times were constantly growing on certain games to the point that I was staring at load screens more often than playing.

Checked some sites and settled on this SSD and it’s worth every cent. Shifted a couple of long-loading games onto this credit-card-sized beauty and watched load times drop around 75-80% across the board – with the exception of server connections, can’t do anything about that.

Runs cool and utterly silent. Has made the agony of load times much more bearable, and transferring larger games went quickly. Did not run a formal speed test but the improvement is undeniable. Anyone on the fence, dive in – while it won’t hold your whole library, it’ll hold 10-15 moderately-sized games easily enough and you can transfer games to and from this drive seamlessly.

It’s a no-brainer!.

I’ve had a few of these drives and for the most part they are great. Small, fast, and easy to carry, etc. But out of all my SSD drives (and there’s a small pile at this point) my 3ish year old T5 just died – first ever SSD to die on my too.

It had a few issues connecting one day and next day it died. What was frusterating about this, was that I used it to bring a project with me on a trip and I was working from the drive directly – the drive showed no issues, connected just fine and when I was done, I saved the quite.

Then, I boot the drive back up about 20 minutes later and get a warning that the drive could be read but not written to and I needed to back it up immediately. OK fine, but then I noticed that the only content available to backup was from an older folder over a week old.

In short, from what I understand, the cellular structure of the drive malfunctioned and instantly either lost or hid all recent work that would have been written to it. In the end I lost a night’s worth of work, and got a bit of a cold sweat when I realized that my entire setup is built on SSDs for projects and HDDs for backups, so if that’s how an SSD dies.

Then I need to be double sure my projects are all backed up properly cause there’s no recovery or going back. As a side note, both my original t3 drives are still going strong! I think the whole line is actually pretty great, but be careful with your data.

I have now two of these SSD because of their form factor, connectivity and transfert speed. I am using them to store my RAW catalog for my photography editor softwares. I could not see any difference while using the software when the RAW pictures were on my MacBook Pro or on the SSD.

I switched recently for a MacBook Air with an M1 chip and MacOS 11. x. Both drives kept disconnecting randomly. The disk were unusable. A simple firmware update for the drive will fix the issue. The only issue is that you need a Windows computer for updating the firmware.

First one was dead out of the box. Locked up explorer when I plugged it in, (Windows 10). Paid shipping to return it. Replacement worked very well for about 6 weeks and then became undetectable in windows.

Was able to re-initialize it in disc manager, but of course, all data was lost. Continued using it for back ups and after a few more weeks, became undetectable again. This time, when I tried to re initialize it, I get I/O device error.

Tried on two different windows computers with different cords and both respond with I/O Error. Now I could pay a second time to ship it back to ADATA but it is loaded with sensitive information that I cannot erase.

Very disappointed with ADATA on this one.

Overall this drive is decent at what it does and works as advertised, but it definitely isn’t at the top of it’s class: Unboxing: Overall, the unboxing of the game drive was pretty straightforward, the packaging was relatively easy to open, and I did so with my fingers without any additional tools.

The box contained the drive itself, instructions, and some special halo stickers, which were actually pretty nice and stuck easily on both the drive and other surfaces. Performance on Xbox: Before really diving deep into this drive, I decided it would probably be best to use it on its intended platform, and did so on my xbox one s.

As far as downloading and installing games, I didn’t notice much of a diffrent between my systems hard drive and the external drive, but it did seem to take a tad bit longer for installations to actually start while using the game drive.

However, once a game started downloading, it worked at pretty much the same speed of my xbox’s internal drive. In terms of performance of games, I found that for the most part, it also did pretty well, with a few exceptions.

When it comes to newer games. like Forza Horizon 5, my load times seemed significantly slower than when using the systems internal drive. It took approximately 30 seconds to load up a race using the game drive, but it only took about 15 seconds to do so on my systems internal drive.

This isn’t really a dealbreaker, but it is definitely worth mentioning. On older games, like xbox 360 ones or any game made towards the beginning or middle of the last console generation I didn’t notice any describable difference between the external game drive and my consoles game drive.

In terms of aesthetics, the game drive comes equipped with a nice RGB light on the front of it, but in order to change the color of the light, you have to download a software on your PC that doesn’t always work as it should.

For example, I might change the color of the light, and then a few hours later it would randomly change back to it’s default color. This could also be considered inconvenient for those that don’t actually have access to a PC.

Performance on PC: While the packaging of the box didn’t really mention anything about using it on a PC, I figured that it was likely going to be a use case for quite a few people and gave it a shot.

Note that you can’t really use this drive on both your xbox and your PC at the same time, as the xbox requires that you format the drive if you used it on your PC. Another thing to note is that if you want to play any games off of xbox game pass, for PC you must re-format the drive to use NTFS instead, which isn’t really ideal.

In terms of performance in PC games, the drive struggles to handle newer games with high resolution textures. While the transfer speed on the drive is fast, the speed of the drive itself is not the fastest, clocking in at 5400 RPM instead of 7200 RPM, which is what most faster drives use these days.

With this being said, if you are expecting to play games like Microsoft Flight Sim, you can throw that idea away. This drive is best suited for playing esports games like CSGO or lower spec games like Firewatch.

When trying to throw anything too demanding at it, the game either runs really sluggish or simply crashes. Overall Review: Overall, this drive does what it is advertised to do pretty well in most use cases, but is not as fast as it should be for anything outside of the intended use case (Xbox One Games).

It’s a great little drive. Reads and writes are OK, not great and certainly not fast enough for the Xbox Series X|S or the newer games that are designed for those consoles. But it’ll do to install my older games on for the time being until I can save up for the SSD expansion card.

I like the RGB but I wasn’t able to get the drive configured with the Seagate software. Not sure why but it wasn’t showing up as configurable. in fact, it wasn’t showing up at all. The drive was attached to my system and usable (because I was copying data to it to test it) but Seagate wasn’t picking it up.

While I would have liked to configured the RGB, the yellow worked and matches the color ambiance of the drive case. Last thing to say on it: my drive scanning software was also showing the drive at only 93% health when it arrived.

I didn’t see any bad sectors or or surface problems so I’m not sure why the drop in health. Ultimately, that’s why I only gave it four stars. So far it’s working fine but we’ll see if it lasts. All-in-all, an aesthetically pleasing addition to my Halo collection that I would definitely recommend.

I received this product in exchange for an honest review and immediately used this to replace the Western Digital mechanical drive I was using as an Xbox backup. There was nothing wrong with my old backup.

until I directly compared to this model. The Seagate SSD was noticeably faster and benchmark tests showed improved specs across the board. I have used Seagate memory productss for years in my PC’s and always been happy with them.

I wouldn’t rush out to purchase this drive if I had a working external drive for the Xbox. However, if I was looking to purchase an external drive I would spend the additional money for a SSD over the mechanical drive.

The Xbox branding on this drive is a nice touch recommending this product over competitors as well. The color scheme matched the Xbox and makes the extra unit in our console blend in, rather than stand out the way the former one did.

I bought this drive to supplement the storage capacity of my Xbox Series X for games that I play that are not Series X|S optimized. To that end it’s been perfect. Western Digital put some serious thought into the D30 that make it perfectly suited for this role of second tier external storage.

It’s attractive negating the need to hide it away, it’s built solidy to make it suitable in the role of free standing external storage including the fact that it clips securely into the included stand, and it’s performance is decidedly top tier and current even if not quite as state of the art as Microsoft’s velocity architecture and the proprietary Seagate expansion card or the internal M.

2 options for the PS5 required for current gen games. The first night I had it I downloaded ~450gb worth of fresh installs in a continuous write operation that lasted around 2. 5 hours and didn’t have a single issue, with the enclosure of the drive never seeming to come much above ambient temperatures.

Load times are impressive, obviously it’s silent and overall performance is excellent. Bottom line, this is a quality external SSD purpose built to stand along side the current generation of consoles and in this application it’s second to none.

If you’re looking for an external SSD for your Xbox Series X|S or PS5, look no further than the D30.

Three months impression for 2TB D30: Editing rating from 4-stars to 5-stars. Good buy for less than $100 per TB. Better than 1Gbps transfers between PS5 and D30. D30 remains cool-to-touch during lengthy transfers.

OEM USB-C cable is trash. A certified 10-GBps cable from retailer with the initials “Bravo Bravo” resolves the connectivity issue. First week impressions for 2TB D30: Not the fastest SSD but reasonable given the 100-dollar-per-TB cost.

The included USB-C to USB cable was faulty. PS5 console did not recognizes the D30 when linked to the PS5’s rear USB ports (per Sony instructions). Purchased a quality USB-C to USB certified 10GBps cable locally to resolve the connectivity issue.

Saved the PS4 game files to the D30. The PS4 game saves and PS5 files/saves must stay on the console. (The D30 can save PS5 game files but they must be moved back to the console before playing…) Good build quality on the plastic outer case.

D30 did not get hot during use (yet). Placed the D30 on a 5×5 heatsink block for insurance.

I compulsively collect images, music, and movies like a madman without any self control, and after my 1tb portable SanDisk SSD decided after a month and a half to completely die, down to and including the actual m.

2 inside the casing, I decided to try out the X8. And I’m glad I did; this thing is an absolute workhorse; the casing, being only rubberized on the top and bottom, gives the drive great thermals under stress, it’s a super benign shape so you can fit it just about anywhere, performance is fantastic, and it’s held up for four months straight without a single issue; no sector issues, no weird slowdown, no failure to be recognized from any computer, nothing.

It just straight up works, and in a product category where others will do anything from die at random to leak thermal goop, that’s an absolute blessing.

I’ve been using an external SSD drive as my main macOS boot drive on my 2018 Mac mini for a few years now. Unfortunately a few weeks ago, the drive I had been using failed (Google “Samsung T7 leaking” – it’s crazy!).

I needed a replacement ASAP and there was no way I was going to give Samsung any more of my business. I’ve always been a fan of Crucial’s memory products and had never heard anything bad about their SSDs so I decided to give them a shot.

Luckily the 2TB Crucial X8 happened to be on sale for a ridiculously low price and Best Buy had it delivered the very next day! While the specs are similar to the Samsung T7 drive it replaced, I am finding that the transfer speeds on the Crucial X8 are slightly faster.

Overall, I am very happy with this purchase.

Had to reformat (to ext4) to get it to work with an outdated Linux kernel. Even with newer software, you should reformat for a more robust file system. Supposedly some file systems are slightly faster, but I think the main advantage is journaling? Due to using USB 2, I only get a fraction of the maximum speed, but that isn’t an important issue.

The drive sometimes gets hot after being plugged in for a while, which I think is due to the system using the wrong USB state or something. I also sometimes see 1) an external USB hard drive that starts, and then keeps spinning after being unmounted, 2) a USB wireless adapter that gets hot from use, 3) a cell phone battery that was probably damaged by too much current from USB.

I saw someone else say that their SSD (a different model) got hot under Windows, but not under Linux, so it isn’t an issue with this drive or a particular OS but just something to watch out for. Due to the drive getting hot, I try to unplug it when not in use.

With USB 2 being slower, and some kind of caching taking place, I have to be careful not to unplug it too early. Even if a program (typically command-line ‘mv’, ‘cp’ or ‘rsync’) says it’s finished copying, THE DRIVE HAS NOT FINISHED.

Even if I right-click the drive’s icon and select Stop or “Safely remove drive”, the drive’s icon disappears almost immediately but THE DRIVE HAS NOT FINISHED WRITING. This might be due to ext4 using delayed writes or whatever, but I think it is actually the drive caching the writes or the operating system lying to the application.

I have to use command-line ‘sync’ to make sure that writing has finished, and after writing 1GB of files that can take 30 seconds to complete (again, because USB 2 is slower). SMART information doesn’t work for me with this drive, and the system-level function that helps the drive free up unused space doesn’t work, but that might just be from using an older kernel.

Make sure you get it to work if you do a lot of work with the drive, with deleting and modifying files. The drive originally also had a relatively small Windows recovery partition or something. After researching it, I deleted it, but it might be useful to Windows users.

Great little drive so far. Fast transfers (~250MBS for everyday real world use on large files). Whoever did the product design needs to get recognition. Perfect size, smooth corners & cool little gren glowing activity strip along the lid edge.

I like the bit of green tint in the lid as well. Quality feel.

This product is great for backing up HD or even just transferring large or multiple files from one hard drive to another. Just a bit more than the cost of a large GB flash drive, it’ holds TB and is still compact enough to carry around.

Or if just used for backup, it will be easy to store in a small space. Priced right for its 1 TB storage, I highly recommend this product.

I use the Seagate 1 TB fast SSD for a mirror image back up of my computer. ‘s main drive. It’s compact design and small footprint makes it easy to store between weekly image sessions. It comes with USB to C or C to C cables.

Write speed is reasonable and isn’t really any concern when doing updates.

This review is for the One Touch 5TB Extern Hard Drive HDD. I had originally purchased this thinking it was an updated version of the Backup Plus style drive, which I thought was unavailable. Also being 7200 RPM I thought it would be a nice upgrade to seek speeds.

Unfortunately this drive wont work for mine or everyones needs. The read speeds were an improvement to a Backup Plus as I was getting around 250-270mbps on average with the One Touch which was nice to see, but the write speeds were averaging 50-60mbps.

I could not get it to write any faster than that which was some what surprising. This simply will not work for me, but might be fine for others. I am a big fan of Seagate drives in general, but I do feel there are better options out their at the moment where you spend a little more but get much better read and write speeds for the same capacity.

Overall though this drive seemed solid and I am sure the read performance is pretty good if that is what you are needing the most.

Was looking for an external drive to store some specific files. Flash/thumb drives just seem to disappear at my house so was looking for something larger that could easily be identified as “mine”. Aside from my specific desires it’s a great product.

Easy to use, fairly fast and everything worked as hoped/expected. Staff help was very pleasant and helpful. Took the extra effort to see if their stock room had other choices not on display and found exactly what I was looking for.

I don’t always work in areas with great web/cloud access, and having a very portable, alternative backup is a must. This is great for my library of photos and documentation. Once I get back to web availability I can finish backups to the cloud.

As with any backup, you should consider encryption – which slows things down a bit, but is much safer if you misplace the drive. I’ve had this for a while now, and it fits in my carry on without taking up noticeable room (like a couple thumb drives glued together).

Excellent product from a reliable manufacturer. I bought it in part for the utility toolkit that come with it, particularly the mirror utility. Now I can mirror certain critical files on my office HD, and then use the current versions on the go.

When I plug back up at the office, the files are automatically synced with my local HD. I would recommend this drive!.

Used it to make a system image and backup important folders. Does the job in a relatively short time via USB. I purchased the Seagate 500Gb SSD to use as the boot drive for my 2013 vintage iMac. Tremendous increase in responsiveness of my iMac. Applications now boot like turning on a light! As usual Adorama’s price was excellent, transaction was smooth and delivery quick.

I bought the 240GB Titanium One Portable SSD external drive because it was cheap. However, the speed is around 100 MB/s for sequential read and write which is slower than what I expected. But the drives are well protected and have their own USB 3.

0 cable as part of the unit so when transporting to another computer, it is a good way to go.

I got this as a replacement for my 128 GB USB 3. 0 Flash Drive. I chose SSD this time as they said the transfer rate is higher. I am very satisfied and found this item to be what was advertised and even more.

I love the design and attached usb. It’s quite strong. The aluminum and silicone are good quality.

The drive required initialization, but other than that it functions as expected as an external SSD. The speeds of the drive are as described by other reviewers. I have not tested the ruggedness, but it looks sturdy enough to handle roughly.

Conventional hard drives remain the most cost effective way of storing large amounts of computer data. Solid state drives (SSDs) have done away with the mechanical aspects of hard drive storage and are also much faster, but cost significantly more for the same amount of storage; as much as 5 to 10 times the cost.

And while mechanical drives can be notionally infinitely rewritable, SSD storage will become unreliable if it is written to too many times; so SSD warranties are specified within a time frame but subject to a given total limit on the drive lifetime total data written.

Seagate’s (conventional mechanical) hard drives are – in my opinion – as good as any other manufacturer’s hard drives. Their portable USB connected drives store up to 5 terrabytes (=5000 gigabytes =5,000,000,000,000 bytes) in a package about the size of a cigarette pack.

To add value, Seagate has gone the extra step by throwing in their “Rescue” data recovery service. This means that if your drive develops a defect within it’s factory warranty period that prevents the drive contents from being readable, not only will you get a replacement drive, but Seagate will also get the data back off your defective drive for you; a service that could cost you hundreds or even thousands of dollars at a professional data recovery service.

The latest incarnation of Seagate’s portable drives are the “One Touch with Password” drives – as opposed to the regular One Touch drive series – which add the ability to encrypt the drive contents at the hardware level.

This means your data is protected so that it can only be accessed – admittedly with the aid of some special software provided by Seagate – by entering the password used to encrypt the drive contents.

If data privacy is critical, these drives are a great choice. The other thing I like about Seagate’s external drives is that they stack neatly. I hate trying to stack drives with curved housings. Cosmetically these portable hard drives are pretty scratch resistant, so they’ll keep their looks for longer.

To be fair, some hard drives will fail within their warranty period. Often this will be when the drive is fairly new. Out of a few dozen Seagate Portable drive’s I’ve purchased over the years, I’ve only had one that was dead(ish) on arrival.

Dropping or (hard) knocking a hard drive – especially while it is being used – is likely to damage or break the drive or cause data loss. Ruggedised drives exist, but if you need a drive to take knocks, I’d suggest you pay the extra for an SSD.

I have used 500GB external hard drives to back up a 500 GB laptop that travelled with me frequently. Upgrading to a 1TB laptop required an upgrade for backups as well. The 1TB SSHD is physically smaller, faster to use, and presumably less prone to failure as a non-mechanical device.

This has been quite an upgrade. The included adapters are generally useful for devices that have USB ports that predate USB C.

In the continuing trend to make storage increasingly small, this hard drive has both the biggest capacity and the smallest dimensions I’ve ever purchased! Smaller than an old ZIP drive, I was able to store my entire mobile DJ music library (over 100K songs) onto it! Being solid state, the speed is STUNNING! It also runs very cool.

If you need portability and a compact size, this is a great option!.

I purchased the Mac mini M1 with 16GB ram and the 256GB drive which was the only configuration with 16GB of ram I could find available anywhere. Hooked this small portable SSD to one of the Thunderbolt ports and now I have plenty of space for files.

Super fast read/write on this port. I can use with my iPad Pro as well.

Bought the best to save my best work. I don’t save all my images so want to be sure I have reliable storage for the best of the best. This brand is considered the top for reliability among photographers.

Glad I waited until this came out. Amazing how small and slim it is, weighs practically nothing, attractive design. Great dollar value for an SSD. Very convenient for a laptop being self powered. Have already edited a few videos directly off of it.

I’ve used my D10 for something like 2 years since ordering off of Newegg early on in the pandemic, and was very satisfied with the actual performance of the drive when using it as a secondary SteamLibrary unit.

Allocating disk space during Steam game installs can either be instantaneous, semi-fast, or agonizingly slow depending on the type of storage media you’re installing your game onto, and most HDDs tend to err on the agonizining slow slide of things–even the 7,200 RPM drives (especially the external drives) unless you’ve got a proper SATA setup going on.

Suffice it to say, the D10 is nothing like other HDDs insomuch as Steam library installations go. Every install that I’ve put on this drive has been on the instantaneous/very-fast side of things, and when you’re queueing up multiple games (especially if you’ve got several terabytes worth of titles you’re interested in putting in your download queue) this seemingly simple difference in space allocation speed can literally shave as much as 30-60 minutes of waiting time off of your queueing process if you’re lining up 30-40+ titles for download.

Not to mention, faster write speeds and space allocation also means there’s less of a hardware throttle/bottleneck on your download speeds; if you have 2. 5GB fiber optic like me, this can mean the difference in as much as 50-100MB/s of download throughput per second.

I have external SSDs (first generation, mind you) that are slower than my D10–this is one impressive HDD, and for the price its seriously hard considering buying anything else for the excellent performance.

I got mine on sale during Black Friday for something like $79–that’s a hair less than $10 per terabyte of storage. This is buy far the best price:performance ratio on any single piece of storage hardware (hell, maybe even just hardware in general) that I’ve ever paid for.

The only disk better for my money that I’ve bought is my SK Hynix P41 2TB @ $139, and that’s a Gen4 M2 clocking 7,000MBs both R/W that I was able to cop at a freakishly good Cyber Monday deal. So that’s saying something.

Unfortunately, I had to take off a star because I bought a brand new computer and with my new battlestation came a transition from Windows 10 to the new Windows 11. And now I can’t get my new computer to read my D10 WD_Black drive at all, no matter which USB port I plug it into–I’m using an ASUS Crosshair VIII, so all my ports are 3.

1 and 3. 2. And it’s not a Endpoints issue common with USB problems on Win 11; I’ve uninstalled all my other USB devices and left this the only one plugged in but it still won’t be recognized by the explorer shell.

If I plug it in to my Win 10 computer, however, it shows up just fine still. Talk about frustrating!! Sadly, I had to remove a star on the rating due to this serious compatibility issue, because I’ve downloaded all the suggested software and drivers/driver updates recommended in troubleshooting guides to zero avail.

I’m keeping my fingers cross that it’ll magically appear in explorer one day and I can once again enjoy this wonderful device. The performance difference while using these other spare external drives is massively noticeable when playing games, particularly when it comes to preloading textures and streaming cutscenes during gameplay.

The D10 was smooth as butter and absolutely mellifluous, and now I’m having to deal with macro and microstuttering on the older external SSDs that I’ve been forced to replace my D10 with in the meantime, and it’s an annoyingly disappointing nuisance.

I just want my D10 back in action! :(.

This drive barely takes up any space in my bag and transferring files is a breeze. However, I have had issues with the first one I got where any of my computers couldn’t detect it. After tons of troubleshooting, I contacted WD.

It took them a week to respond to me to approve my RMA. I sent in the drive, then over a month later, I finally got a new drive. I contacted support multi times during that month and no one could give me an answer as to why this happened.

I was without an external drive which I used for work, for 4 weeks. This was not okay. The new drive is working better however it does sometimes make the computer it’s connected lose access, only way to fix it is to unplug it and then plug it back in.

I wouldn’t recommend this drive even though it works great when it does work. However, a product that cost me $200 shouldn’t have any of these issues (on two separate drives).

So, today I will be reviewing the WD P50 500 GB SSD game drive. I have been using this on my PS4 due to lack of space and multitude of games on my system, but this external SSD can be used with just about anything from your pc, PlayStation and Xbox.

This is a pretty solid SSD with a rugged metal shell with a plastic bottom with cut outs for heat dissipation. The SSD has one USB-C connector input but comes two cables, a USB-C to USB-C and a USB-C to USB-A cable and it is pretty much just play and play.

I was easily able to access the hard drive on my laptop as well as my PS4. So, like I had mentioned earlier I primarily got this to use with my PS4 and clean up some space on the unit by transferring some games over to the SSD and I was easily able to do so, but it did take some time.

It took nearly 2 hours to transfer over about 200 GB over to the SSD and I was still able to play the games from the SSD without any issues and my games actually loaded a lot faster then they before, so the transferring time made up for it on the loading end.

The SSD does advertise up to 2000 MB/s or 2 GB/s but you have to keep in mind that your equipment that you are using needs to be able to support that as well. For my purpose, using this on the PS4 actually worked out pretty well and my games did load up faster than before.

I also transferred some pictures that I had from my PC to the SSD and again I had no problem doing so and since the file sizes was relatively small, I was able to move those over in matter of minutes.

Overall, the SSD has worked out great, it has cleared up some space on my PS4 and has helped in loading my games faster as well as cleaning up some space on my laptop as well.
