20 Best Exhaust Brake For 7.3 Powerstroke (2023 Updated)

I never liked the brakes on our 2016 JKU 75thAE. I actually hated them! They always felt spongy and I was always planning way ahead for stops if I happened to be pulling my utility trailer. I, like most everyone who owns a Jeep, went to a larger tire.

Nothing crazy, 285/70/17’s. But even that relatively small increase in tire diameter and weight over stock only magnified the Jeep’s braking deficiencies. I had been considering the PowerStop Z36 Kit for a while but was going to wait until the Jeep needed its brakes replaced.

My mind was changed when I topped a hill and there was a truck stopped in the road, and as fate would have it, I was pulling my trailer. I jammed on the brakes and thought, this is it! There was no room for evasive maneuvers and I was hard on the brakes, fortunately the truck made its turn and we avoided a collision.

When we got home I ordered the Z36’s! They shipped fast, and installed easily with basic tools. It took me about 4 hours start to finish. I wasn’t in a rush and took time to inspect and clean everything while I was in there.

I took the Jeep out and followed the bedding process to the letter. DON’T SKIP THIS PART! The difference between the factory brakes and the Z36’s is absolutely night and day! Now Driving Jeep is so much more enjoyable now because I don’t have to worry about the anemic brake system.

I got the replacement rotors and pads. The kit was super easy to install, just time consuming. Total time for install was probably 4 hours (about an hour each brake). You could also split in to two and do front first then rear.

A second hand does help, but I did not have one. The braking does feel a bit more powerful than stock. I think this is a really good factory replacement but I don’t think it’s worth “upgrading” from stock to these.

There are better kits out there for that. Make sure you have a socket set, wrench set, breaker bar, rubber mallet, picks, a caliper hanger, brake cleaner, gloves, caliper compressor, torque wrench, and extra brake component lubricant.

I watched both the extreme terrain video and another one on YouTube to get a feel for the work before doing it.

Tried these based on reviews and videos. Were easy to install, took about an hour, and really impressed with the results. Overall I feel an improvement in stopping power and a lot more confidence in traffic given lift/increased tire size often left me avoiding stop and go traffic.

These brakes are smooth, make hard stops a lot more manageable, and overcome the inertia difference in larger tires with a clear improvement over stock. Well worth the money.

I had a brake squeal with the OEM brakes that was very annoying. I had the rotors resurfaced and a month later the squeal noise returned. Once I installed the Power Stop K8183-36 ceramic brake pads and drilled/slotted rotors, the squeal went away, my braking increased greatly, and I like the look on my truck.

Awaiting backorder of the Power Stop K8186-36 for the rear wheels of my truck. Other than the backorder, I have no complaints!.

Bought this kit along with stainless brake hoses. Not a dramatic improvement over stock, but exactly what I was expecting considering this isn’t a big brake kit. Put a couple hundred miles on them since install.

First 100 miles pedal felt spongy compared to before, but as the rotors wore in it got better. Break-In procedure was simple enough and you can definitely feel the improvement doing the hard stops. Now that they’ve worn in more they stop even harder.

The rotors still have some machine marks so they’re not fully broke in yet, so performance is only going to get better. The calipers probably aren’t necessary if you’re trying to save money. I got the full kit since the old calipers have been on the car since ’04 and might as well not have to deal with a possible failure in the next few years.

I have bought a few of the rotor pad kits Likes For Toyota 4Runner and Tacoma this is the only rotors that do not develop a high temp vibration/warp on heavy braking or long downhill braking. As for hawaii shipping can be an issue or more then the parts, after checking other websites this was the best deal was able to ship to home instead of store at no extra cost.

Dislikes for powerstop pads wear out quickly but stop very well this also due to the drilled & siped rotors but that’s the price you pay for proformance. D.

I bought these as a budget minded way of making my own big brake kit using the GT500 6pot Brembos on my early S197. They fit perfectly and work great. The only reason for the 4 start review is that these things are flipping heavy.

I will eventually upgrade to two piece calipers, but these are a great budget alternative.

Installed these rotors on the rear of my 03 GT and so far so good. The rotors are holding their color, as in the brake pads aren’t discoloring them. I’ve hauled this car down from speed rapidly to get the rotors hot on purpose and didn’t get alot of fade afterwards.

They look fantastic, easy installation, and they perform very good plus the price is amazing. Absolutely recommend these rear rotors.

The title says it all. If you’ve never done brakes before and you’re thinking about it, that means you have the balls to do it. So do it. It really isn’t complicated – there are more than a few videos on YouTube and lots of reviews actually give instructions too.

I won’t bore you with that stuff. The brakes do everything they say they do. I replaced my front brakes with this company first and they were excellent. So when it was time for the back there was no shopping no looking no review reading just went back to the same company and ordered the same set for the back.

Here’s a tip or two: After the tire is off really look at everything 1st – take pictures. Specifically, •Take a picture of the bolt/s and where they go before you take them off. •Take a picture of the brake pads and how they fit into the bracket that bolts to the caliper before you take that assembly apart.

•Take a picture of the little metal clips seated in the bracket that holds the pads before you remove them, then putting the new ones back in will be much easier. > you’ll need a longer then normal breaking bar to loosen the caliper bolts/nuts.

Unless you’re Hercules 🙂 > you’ll need a 2lb short-handle sledge hammer – & the cojones to use it. >make sure you have a C clamp (or other) to push the piston all the way back into the caliper. It needs to be fully open to get it over the thickness of new pads.

>>OPEN THE LID TO THE BREAK FLUID Reservoir under the hood. BEFORE using the clamp!!!!! Then turn the clamp SLOWLY- allowing time for the fluid to move back through the break line as you push the piston back into the housing.

>Do not let the caliper dangle (hang) by the break line. Secure it up so there’s no chance of falling or getting in the way of the rest of the repair. >>”Seating” the new Disc: You do Not need to put the tire back on to tighten the lugs to “seat” the new Disc.

Just use 3 lugs, spaced – tighten them down firmly to “Seat” the disc on the hub – then reassemble the pads and caliper – Then loosen/remove the lugs, install tire retighten :0) > oh there is a product you can buy so 60-80,000 miles later you can get that disc back off with far less hammering.

**for me all the extra time was spent using the sledgehammer and cleaning everything with a grinder with the wire brush attachment. (I’m a bit ocd) If the discs came off easily and no cleaning maybe 1.

5/2 hours. But including getting all your tools ready, jacking your truck up/jack stands then putting all your stuff away – it’s def an afternoon kind-a thing. I own a floor jack & stands, a 175psi compressor- I saved time with the lugs off/on & a good jack speeds things up too.

Cleaning the rust and grim with a grinder also sped things up a bit. All of this being done by hand(?) you’ll definitely need 4/5 hours.

Impressed with the overall quality of the product. Pieces were package well and all parts labeled clearly. Pieces/parts fit perfectly on my 2018 Wrangler JK. I was quoted over 500. 00 dollars from a reputable service center to have factory brakes installed back on the Jeep, but after doing a little research on looking for something better, then the factory style brakes to slow down the 35×12.

5 tires I found this product. Only issue I had was trying to find a road to do the break in of the ceramic shoes on the rotors. Once that was complete and the brake fluid was completely drained and replaced with new fluid, you could tell the difference right away from the factory shoes.

Stopping is so much more graceful. I fully recommend this product to anyone considering on changing out their factory rotors and shoes. Overall install was a little over 2 hours, and that was due to the previous tire shop putting my lugs on so tight it took two people with a breaker bar to loosen the wheels.

I had gone through another distributor to obtain these parts and twice received the completely wrong parts. Heavy discounts be deviled, I decided to pay full price with American Muscle because they have not failed me yet.

There was some minor FedEx issue with receiving one of the two packages that these wonderful stoppers ship in, but all parts were finally received. The rear kit was missing a rotor, so I contacted support and sent it back, got the replacement just a few days later, also missing the same part.

Called support again and they launched an investigation into the issue, I don’t know the outcome, but that missing rotor showed up on my doorstep a whole lot sooner than I expected. Thanks to American Muscle, I made my goal of ringing in the new year with the ability to stop my car without shimmying like Shakira.

These puppies break you from screaming eagle to grandma getting groceries so fast and so smoothly that you almost forget you’re the one doing it. Couldn’t be happier with the end result, especially considering the ups and downs that got me here.

An absolute must have for anyone with Brembos. This is by far the best mod under a $100 for your Hellcat IMO. I’m OCD like a mofo and I couldn’t stand the brake dust that would accumulate even on a 20 mile roundtrip.

I keep my baby in the garage and keep her looking immaculate and these fron brake pads are definitely a game changer. But wait it gets better, the installation process. so easy a caveman can do it. This was the first time I’ve changed brake pads and I was shocked how simple it was.

You literally just need a small punch, ball peen hammer and a 13mm socket. Obviously that’s not including a jack and whatever sized lug wrench or socket to take off your wheels. In my case it was a 22 mm socket for lug nuts.

GT500 PADS CREATE SO MUCH BRAKE DUST THAT IT IS UNBELIEVABLE. DRIVING 10 MILES CREATES A NEED TO CLEAN YOUR WHEELS. I HAVE BEEN USING POWERSTOP PADS ON ALL OF MY VEHICLES AND THIS Z26 PAD FOR YEARS ON MY 2013 GT500 AND THEY WORKED GREAT AND DRASTICALLY CHANGED THE BRAKE DUST ISSUE.

I HAVE HAD THEM ON MY 20 GT500 NOW FOR A WEEK AND IT IS SO MUCH BETTER, I MUST HAVE DRIVEN 200 MILES WITHOUT MAKING A BIG MESS. DURING THE INSTALLATION I WAS SHOCKED ABOUT HOW HEAVY THE CALIPERS AND ROTORS ARE.

BE PREPARED TO HAVE A PLACE TO REST THE CALIPERS BEFORE REMOVING THEM AND HAVE A TORX T-60 TOOL. THE REASON FOR 4 STARS IS BECAUSE THE HARDWARE IS WRONG. THE PADS ARE SO BIG YOU NEED 2 PACKS OF GREASE ALSO.

I HAD TO REUSE MY OLD HARDWARE. THE REAR Z26 PADS ARE OUT NOW AND I JUST INSTALLED THEM. SAME PROBLEM. NONE OF THE HARDWARE IS CORRECT. THE PART # FOR THE REAR IS Z26-2363.

Very happy with the pads, they’re as advertised, price and performance A+. Bedded them per the instructions and they’re awesome – no more brake dust! I was obsessed with cleaning the front wheels, drove me crazy – no more! No issues with braking quality – if anything they’re a little more touchy at times at lower speed than I’m used to within the first couple of hundred miles I have on them but no fading – I’m not using the car on track days, etc.

NOTE – I originally used the new clips that came with the pads and there was a noticeable rubbing noise in both wheels when done. Some internet digging later – learned that you CANNOT use the clips that come with the pads, they don’t fit correctly and caused the rubbing noise I was hearing from both inside and outside the car when spinning the wheels off the ground.

Replaced with the original Brembo clips and the noise was gone – PERFECT. Love ’em, gave a full five stars across the board despite the clips issue.

I recently bought a 2” leveling kit for my Dodge Ram 1500 2wd. I noticed that the braking was ever so slightly reduced. I guess more accurately that I felt I had to push just ever so slightly harder on the peddle to make it stop the same as before the front lift/leveling.

This was the first brake change as I only have 44,000 mi on my 09 Ram. Ever since new the pads squealed a little at the end of the stop but somehow only when large quantities of people are around ??.

The breaking was great! Just annoying at times. During the lift install I saw the pads where worn down about as thick as the backing plate and decided since I had a good mechanic to do the work cheap, why not get the brakes done.

I noticed instantly when around crowds of people the squeal was not there! I also noticed the initial “grab” of the new pads when the brakes are first applied is smooth and towards the end of the stop gives a really good firm stop.

I definitely feel these pads are better than the original equipment pads they replaced and although untested, better than any metallic pad I would have picked up at a local parts store. The other carbon fiber/ceramic pads I saw were more expensive by a large percentage and that is why I was first attracted.

The shipping took a week to get to my door which isn’t very fast but I would buy them again to replace the brakes in my other vehicles.

I have been using performance brakes for more than a decade and these exact brakes on my Suburban for at least 4 years now and this new set I just replaced still have the same high quality performance in stopping power.

The longevity of these is also at a very high standard. This is my second set in the 4 years I have been using this product. Highly recommend for the daily driver. Pro tip: These are CARBON FIBER BRAKE PADS!! After following the initial brake in which has detailed instruction you will need to heat them up a little until you get them fully broke in.

By far the best brake pads you can get on a truck. Extremely good stopping power and quality. Easy to install. They are a lot bigger than the stock pads. Can’t beat the carbon fiber ceramic. Very good product.

Easy to install and quiet. Old brakes made loud grinding sound backing up only. Known issue with RAM dealer said clips, bolts and pads was the issue. I told them it was just the pads. Replaced them with these and no longer any issues.

Perfect brake kit for my 2000! Easy installation, no problems, not too expensive, definitely recommend for if you want to buy the full kit and have everything done at once. Usually when you get a car the brakes are the first thing to get replaced.

Update- 6 months later and there’s barely any wear!.

I was looking for good quality rotors and pads for simple daily commuting. These are IT! Product came on time and in perfect shape. It was my first time changing brakes and couldn’t have been smoother.

Rotors were pristine with no defects, and brake pads are excellent. Installed just about 3 weeks ago and not a squeak. Jeep stops smoothly and with no issues. Highly recommend!.

As many non-PP owners, I went about and did the Mustang GT brake upgrade on my EcoBoost Mustang, and needed the rotors brake pads for the set of brakes that I purchased (bought them off of eBay from a reliable Mustang shop out in the Midwest).

When comparing the prices of rotors brake pads with the local auto part stores, this set definitely took it! Rotors alone at O’Reilly/AutoZone go for as much as this kit goes, not including ceramic brake pads (it will easily take you over $200).

The quality and finish of the rotors are amazing! The brake pads are great as well — not a lot of dust as compared to the OEM ones (not to mention better braking power compared to the non-PP brakes, but that’s different).

For the EcoBoost owners who want to upgrade their brakes to GT/Performance Pack — make sure you get the 13. 5″ rotors set. With swapping brake bleed, I spent about 2ish hours doing the whole job by myself.

It’s an easy job that’s worth the investment!.

I purchased this complete brake kit in early July. When it arrived in three separate shipments (1 from warehouse, 2 drop shipped from manufacturer) I unpacked it to begin installation. That’s where the caliper problems began.

Upon initial inspection the rear calipers were identical. I had been supplied with two left side rear calipers. The bleeder valve holes on the rear calipers had been redrilled then tapped only near the very bottom, too deeply for the threads to hold any bleeder valve more than loosely finger tight.

Both rear and front calipers had media blast surface mottling on the entire banjo fitting and copper seal washer mating surface instead of a flat smooth mating surface. That problem was compounded by the powder coating straying onto the mating surfaces as well.

Having access to a good machine shop at work allowed me to fix these problems (except the missing right side rear caliper) but if you don’t have access you will spend a lot to get the calipers into a usable condition and this particular caliper set seems to be in very short supply currently.

This is the second vehicle I have installed the PowerStop rotors and pads on, and those parts are fantastic for a street cruiser. But the powder coated calipers are NOT a quality product and I couldn’t recommend them to an enemy.

I’ve been a fan of start Gale has done. The science is afar won me over years ago. My wife found my dream truck two years ago. 2018 Denali with the Duramax. I knew when I bought it that I was going to upgrade with Banks components.

I was finally able to purchase the exhaust and intake. What a huge difference! The truck literally sounded like Darth Vader when it was working hard no thanks to the tiny 2. 75 inch exhaust. That has disappeared with the GIANT 5 inch mandrel bent dpf back exhaust.

It’s still very quiet with all the filters in place. It was fairly easy to install with one problem with the def pipe. I overcame that with lots of PB Blaster, heat, and a small pair of channel locks to keep the tube from twisting.

Aside from that small issue the fitment was great. Can’t recommend it enough.

Pipe looks great on truck. Cut the original pipe in half for easier removal, did the job on the ground. 5 inch pipe comes close to heat shield for spare tire. Still have about 1/8 inch air gap. No problem after several heat cycles, including some runs on I-95.

The welded on hangers on the OEM pipe look more robust. I am confident that what Banks has supplied will do the job to include the finish on the pipe. The old pipe looked brand new inside and out, great considering I live in Florida.

Have not any change in performance or milage. I installed the Banks pipe to move the exit of hot exhaust gas from the rear to the side. I tow a 5th wheel RV and the OEM exhaust was blowing on the front of the RV and hydraulic system.

Regarding performance, I will be taking a camping trip in several weeks and will be able to review MPG. I Have good solid numbers for MPG while towing.

For 4 rotors and two sets of pads it came in 5 big boxes. That was kind of strange. The product is great so consider that a 5 star but JEGS sent 4 rotors and only 2 pads and a fuel line part I did not order.

Assuming the fuel line and 2 pads got swapped somehow. Had to pay for more pads at local store vs waiting for another set to come in. I will use them again but cannot give a 5 star rating when an online company ships the wrong product : (.

If your looking for super great stopping performance, these are good but not like the Brembo’s on the higher tier trims. Still coming from the stock rotors and pads these are a big difference. breaking them in does take a little bit, it was about three days of commuting before the were officially broken in and driving like new.

If your on a budget or in bad need of new brakes, I highly suggest this kit or the other higher performance systems that Power Stops offers. I know i will be using again in the future for sure. As a side note: the install process is straight forward even if you’ve never changed your brakes before.

I’ve replaced the stock rotors with these becaue I wasn’t getting the performance i wanted from the stock ones. During my research, I was a little confused wether or not if these rotors and pads would fit.

I just went for it even tho I wouldn’t be able to send them back for a refund if they were not the right size. And I’m happy to tell you that they do fit. The perfomance from these is night and day better than the stock.

Immediate difference when im driving. The stopping force is about the same, but the difference is throughout the braking time. On the autobahn slowing down from over 100MPH down to under 30 for a exit, you feel ZERO FADE.

You will feel the brakes fade with the stock ones, and the small amount of warp that will show as you do continuous braking. But these rotors and pads will eat the heat. Install took about 3 hours for all four corners, you will require a rotating piston compressor for the rear brakes, so I highly recommend renting a mechanic bay and using their tools.

For the bolts, I’ve torqued the rear brackets to 125 ft/lbs, and the calipers are just. tight. the specifics for them are small enough that “tight” with the ratchet will be enough. Yes they could be reused, but some people like to get new ones (I’ve reused mines).

The front bracket bolts are NOT 125 ft/lbs, i couldn’t find anyhing for them. theyre tightened to a lighter torque, but I just used the ratchet until i couldn’t move them anymore. And the same thing for the caliper bolt for the fronts.
