20 Best Dress Shoes For Back Pain (2023 Updated)

I tried Orthofeet in this very model over a year ago. I’m a big guy, over 300 pounds. I have lower back issues, difficulties in bending, etc. I needed tieless, but more importantly, I needed a shoe whose insole didn’t break down under my weight.

I couldn’t find an affordable shoe and insole that lasted. With the 60 day “try them or return them” guarantee, I ordered my size, figuring I had nothing to lose. I got over a year’s usage of these shoes! That’s unheard of for me.

The insoles are amazing, I dialed each shoe in perfectly, and wore these everyday until I wore a hole in the one bottom sole, and the fabric gave way on top where my motorcycle shifter finally wore through! I’m on my second pair, and bought a third pair so I can alternate.

Budget constraints before precluded two pairs. I’ve done the math, however, and believe I’ll be glad I bought two pairs this time. The support and reduction of pronation is excellent. The way the insole molds around the foot is wonderful, and gives a great stride with super comfort.

I wear a wide rather than normal, and the heel portion of the sole is 3/4” wider, which is the kind of comfort and sizing I need to be comfortable. I guess you could say I’m now a lifelong customer! Highly recommended.

I have suffered for years with foot problems – fusion of big toe for arthritis, loss of all cartilage (arthritis again) on the outside of one foot causing the need for an AFO brace, misshapen foot due to the arthritis, bones where they’re not supposed to be, a bunion on the other foot, stasis ulcers, you name it.

I’m so glad I purchased these shoes for my son. He’s autistic and can’t tie shoe strings, so finding shoes that look and feel great for him is next to impossible. Once they are tied by me, all he has to do is fasten them each time with the straps.

I’ve suffered with heel spurs due to years of military exercises as well as working as a high voltage electrician climbing poles with gaffs. In 2018 I was involved in a head on collision on PCH 1 in California.

I severely broke my right ankle and lower right leg. I endured 5 surgeries over a two year period and suffered with exasperated heel pain due to plantar fasciitis. After trying different inserts like Sorbothane and Rocker shoes that provided me with some pain relief, I finally decided after seeing several advertisements about OrthoFeet, to try their shoes.

I purchased two pair of the Gramercy casuals. Once I received them and tried them on. I knew that I had made the right choice. My question to myself was ‘Why Did It Take Me So Long? I’ve since purchased two more pairs and I would personally recommend them to anyone suffering from pain or discomfort or who are just looking for a comfortable shoe.

Hopefully the designers will eventually design even more different styes in the future, because they now have a lifetime customer in me.

Super comfortable shoes. I’ve been looking for a good looking but comfortable walking shoe for ages and found just what I was looking for in the Grammercy. I used to wear Echo Seawalker shoes, which I loved, but those were discontinued.

These shoes are just as comfortable — I can walk in them for hours and feel fine. In the wrong shoes, I start to develop plantar fasciitis, but this is not a problem for me with the Grammercy shoes. The Grammercy shoes also look nice.

My husband has the Avery Black Orthofeet shoes for his everyday work, but he could no longer wear his favorite cordovan dress shoes for special occasions, as Orthofeet shoes have been life changing for his knee and foot pain.

I needed to get him shoes for a wedding in Chicago. When I saw these Gramercy Shoes on the web site, though described as Brown, they appeared like they could be more of a cordovan color. In an online chat with a representative from Orthofeet, I was assured that the shoes did, indeed, have a cordovan-brownish color.

Taking a chance my husband would like them (He’d prefer either a cap toe or wing tip look) since they are built on the same platform, I ordered them. After he tried them on and they fit fine, I got out the cordovan polish and put two coats on, buffing well in between and after.

What a difference. I always polish any new shoes prior to wearing, as the protection is so worth it. In this case, the shoes looked richer, and then I was able to find a new belt online that matched exactly.

Personally, I wish that Orthofeet would add more Cordovan options in both men’s and women’s shoes (Navy and Nude in Women’s too) because the color goes with nearly everything and can really elevate anyone’s look.

I rarely write reviews but I feel I need to for these shoes. I have severely flat feet. My arches are always swollen and my feet always hurt. I’ve had many different types of expensive prescription orthotics and they never seem to help any more than the store bought ones to be honest.

This shoe is the most comfortable one I’ve had. The pain in the top of my foot is almost gone and the plastic inserts give me just enough support. My arches aren’t aching like they use to. I work at a Y as a wellness coach so I have a closet full of various workout shoes but these are my favorite and the only ones I want to wear anymore.

I bought the black, then the turquoise and will probably be buying the pink. They have truly been a game changer for me! Please continue to make more colors! I am a 9 and usually size up to a 9. 5 for athletic shoes but I probably could have sized up to a 10 and used the inserts they give you.

If you’re in between, I would suggest doing that.

I’m a hot mess. Foot pain, pronation, back pain, scoliosis, hip pain, and of course rotten, old arthritic knees (guess mama was right – I spent way too much time on them in my youth). Pardon me dirty man – I’m talking about 42 years of skating, hockey, cheerleading, paintball, basketball, volleyball, jumping off roofs – don’t ask why.

it takes it’s toll. Anyway – 50’s creep up and it got to where I couldn’t take my poor puppy around the block for a walk without feeling excruciating pain somewhere, everywhere. He was not a happy puppy.

This is my 3rd pair of your shoes. My first pair was bought over 7 years ago. I was in desperate need of a shoe that would relieve the pain of plantar fasciitis. I wore them every day for many months and they resolved the problem.

I still have that first pair and occasionally wear them. They have retained there look and support well over the years. So I bought more for dress wear. They are well worth the cost. I wish you made more styles and colors for dress wear.

this was my first time to order online from OrthoFeet. the shoes arrived promptly and fit. i have extreme bunions and need extra space in the toe box so i ordered the extra wide. my bunion is accommodated, however the shoes are wide over the instep.

if i pull the strap snug enough to eliminate the gap it is too long and touches the floor. the stretch fabric is a nice feature for fit, but i am concerned that they shoes will scuff or show signs of wear because they can’t be polished.

I never write a review. I have the best intentions but, I always forget. I have been a server for over 40 years. During the last several years I have developed heel spurs, one in each foot. Unfortunately, I have developed plantar fasciitis in each foot as well.

It’s not Winter or even Fall yet in TN but I keep wanting to put these boots on in the morning because they are sooo comfortable! I used the inner arch support because of my high arches and that was all I needed.

I ordered my regular size, 7. 5, taking a chance that I wouldn’t need an 8 based upon the information and reviews. Perfect fit! Plenty of toe room to wiggle, arch just right with the added support, padded around the ankle where mine are narrow and I can lace as tightly as needed for snug fit.

I walked around in the house the first day because at first with a heavy sock, I thought they might be too small but wearing a less heavy sock and adjusting the laces, I can wear any of my socks and be comfortable! Great boot!.

I was walking 4 to 5 miles six days a week. One morning upon awaking and proceeding to get out of bed to take a step, I felt an unusual pain in my left heel with some pain in my arch,thus, I could hardly walk.

These shoes are the best! I have been suffering with back pain for a long time. Love my Orthofeet shoes! I was having a lot of back,hip,knee and shin pain. Didn’t want to get into prescription pain medication but needed relief and decided that with a 60 day satisfaction guarantee what could I lose.

My first outing in my Orthofeet shoes was an all day shopping trip. I was surprised how comfortable the shoes are and that I didn’t suffer the usual pains and sleepless night after walking on concrete floors all day.

I wear them at home and everywhere I go. I watch the website for availability of a couple other styles I like.

My oorthopaedic doctor told me I needed to get supportive shoes. I have Ortho sneakers but didn’t want to wear them almost winter so chose the Wichita stretch. I am not a sturdy shoe person so these are not what I would have chosen for looks but they felt great right out of the box.

My arthritis pain is gone and the rubbing irritation I was getting from my regular shoes is gone. I wear them every day, all day and they are wonderful. I highly recommend them.

My legs are not the same length die to surgery, so I have to use a lift in my left shoe. When I put a lift in the shoes I had, my heel would come out of the shoe and be too tight in the front. Thankfully, Orthofeet shoes have a deep shoe bed.

The Chattanooga shoe is perfect for me. They are Mary Jane style, so look more like shoes than sneakers. I have narrow ankles (but the front of my feet are round and a little wide), so the strap keeps them firmly on my feet.

Since they are mostly mesh, they are soft on my little toes and cool in the hot weather where I live. The padding around the entire opening of the shoe, including in back, prevents any chaffing. I have been waiting for years for Orthofeet to also make them in blue!!! And beige/tan would be great to wear with summer dresses!!!.

After foot surgery, fused bones, plates and screws in a leg cast for 3 months. Returning to weight barring brought hip pain, knee discomfort and restricted foot movement. it was a nightmare to walk….

I bought these slippers as a gift for my husband. He has diabetes, and suffers from nerve pain in his feet. In addition, his feet are always cold to a point where he has a difficult time focusing. These slippers are extremely soft and warm.

They have decent arch support as well as being as non-skid as a slipper can be. My hubby has some extra wide, ‘pie-tin’ feet and we were able to get these in wide so they fit just perfect. He rarely takes them off and wears them out while running errands.

He has NEVER liked any kind of shoe/clothes as much as he’s liked these slippers. I got the idea of slippers from MyPillow and my mother bought my father slippers from them. The slippers were about the same price but the Orthofeet slippers are SO MUCH better – we even did a side by side comparison.

So if you want comfortable and warm – these are the slippers for you!!!.

Excellent quality. I have wide feet due to swelling and a very high instep. I have purchased many pairs of slippers from various web sites in coding Amazon and have had to return all of the for fit! These Tuscany slippers in wide are the perfect fit in all ways.

The tie string on the top of all moccasin style slippers is not just for design, the string can actually be used to adjust the instep height and the stiff back of the slippers makes it very easy to slip on without bending over.

Due to surgeries, I have to have shoes and slippers that I can slip my feet into and not worry about them falling off. This slipper solves all of the problems. Excellent slipper.

Okay. I will start by saying I have horrible feet. I have had two surgeries for plantar fasciitis, one for a Morton’s neuroma and I have fallen arches. Since my last PF surgery in April, I have been buying and returning one pair of shoes after another because they either don’t have arch support, or the arch support in the shoe is killer on my flat feet.

I ordered these sandals on a whim and they couldn’t be better. They have just the right amount of support and are super cushy and padded but somehow keep my feet from pronating. All the strap points are adjustable for a perfect fit.

They are even decent looking. My only wish is that they would make these with the straps being actual leather. These are some type of synthetic material but when it comes to comfort at least for my particular feet, these are definite winners!.

I’ve owned these sandals for three weeks now and they are truly amazing they not only look super cute on my feet but they are so comfortable I have a hammertoe and wearing these sandals are awesome because they are wide I have wide feet as well and the belts all around the feet are adjustable and they have the arch support that I need as well so that I can look and feel great on the inside and outside they look super cute with long jeans or rolled of jeans.

I showed my foot doctor the sandals and a pair of sneakers that I also ordered from ortho feet and he said that the company is going to put the foot doctors out of work. I am grateful for this company and for the orthopedic doctors.

The black is my second pair of this style shoe and just as supportive as the first pair. I don’t wear the black pair as often as the grey pair with lime laces. The grey pair is everyday shoe and so they get more exposure going to the store, yard stuff, walking the dog etc.

The black pair I am using as a change of pace to go to dinner / look nicer. With that said the grey pair is, after a few months, just as supportive today as the first day I tried then on and the black pair is a super fit as well.

Usually when I have gotten a pair of tennis shoes (regulars from shoe store, online etc) they tend to not be supportive of my feet after about 3 mos. It is as though the shoe starts breaking down and the support is gone even though the shoe itself looks fine.

Both pair of these shoes are super supportive of me as I wear them all day long. I have bunions but only one foot was starting to bug me a bit. I was in a bad wreck with injuries a few years ago and ever since I must wear very foot supportive shoes mostly hiking boots which give me great stability and excellent support for my low beck and knees etc.

The other thing is the ortho inserts. With each pair of shoe I also purchased another ortho insert so I could put it into my other hikers. The ortho insert makes such a big difference for me. I also like the little heel support in there because I have an extremely narrow heel and a very wide toe.

I honestly love these shoes. I had Puma’s and Under Armour shoes prior to these, and I felt like the way the shoe was shaped, that my foot was always pointing at an angle in the shoes. I found these online and purchased them on a whim because I thought nothing could be worse than what I was already dealing with in regards to my tennis shoes/sneakers.

I’m on my feet all day, everyday because I work in manufacturing engineering and these sneakers ROCK. All the extras they give you are just amazing. You get 2 different thicknesses of spacers in case you have feet that aren’t as thick height wise, they give you added arch support (which I use and LOVE) and they give you 2 different types of laces.

My only issues with these shoes is that I am using the laces that you push the plastic piece down on to tighten, and the plastic cap on the end of the laces that hold both ends together already came off one shoe and I can’t get it back on.

But this does not at all affect the wearability of the shoe or its functionality. They are still awesome, very comfortable and extremely sturdy. This is the first set of sneakers I have had in a really long time that actually keep my feet warm and dry.

They are not paper thin like most sneakers these days. These are STURDY shoes, but still flexible so you don’t feel like you are in boots or something. If you are debating these shoes, get a pair. You won’t be disappointed.

I have wide feet and the normal width fits great. I usually have to buy men sneakers because of this but these shoes are fabulous.

I know this is going to seem silly and I would have NEVER believed this if I wouldn’t have experienced it myself. But these shoes straight up changed my life. My feet started hurting a couple of years ago, and I was told it was plantar fasciitis.

My left foot the whole entire foot hurt, especially the top of the main bone and even my ankle. My right foot it was mostly my heel. But over the last several months it had gotten so bad that it hurt to walk and I had a limp.

I’d try to hold on to whatever I could when walking just to keep as much pressure off. I even have several different pairs of insoles made specifically for PF that I wore every day. I ordered these shoes (after researching and trying to find things to help) because of the reviews and them being made to help with plantar fasciitis.

I put them on as soon as they came in and I felt some relief. The next day I put them on when I woke up and by the end of the day I was very uncomfortable and was thinking they weren’t going to work for me but I had read that it takes up to ten days for them to contour to your feet so I continued to wear them.

Every waking minute! By the third or maybe fourth day I could walk with NO pain what’s so ever. I had energy and was/am able to stay up all day and I’m getting so much done! Looking back my quality of life was pretty much nonexistent and it’s crazy to me that it was all because my feet hurt so bad and I was in so much pain.

I literally didn’t want to do anything other than sleep because that was the only time I wasn’t in pain. And being a homeschooling momma of 4 that definitely wasn’t good. Once the pain was gone I was able to do so much more that I never really knew how much I was suffering and letting myself and duties go until then.

I ordered the slippers for wearing in the house. They don’t give me absolute relief like the shoes do but they are good for quick slipping on and off and they do take away most of the pain. But these tennis shoes are still my “go-to” and I wear them every single day.

Most of the time as soon as I wake up until I go to bed at night, but other times like on lazy staying at home days I’ll just put the slippers on. If you suffer from pain from Plantar fasciitis then do yourself a favor and GET THESE SHOES! Give it a few days of wearing them to get your feet used to them and you absolutely won’t regret it!!!.

These shoes are like walking on a cloud. That said, I’m having trouble getting them “dialed” in. I’ve tried the inserts first on both feet then on the right only then on the left only and it just seems I can’t get long term, as in all day, relief from knee, hip, foot pain.

Not all at the same time. Changing out the inserts moves the pain around and for now it just a matter of which combination is the most bearable. I’m in no way faulting the shoes. At least I can make adjustments/alterations unlike a couple of other pairs of shoes I alternate with.

If bunions are your problem, like they are part of mine, the toe boxes in these shoes are a blessing. They definitely solved that problem for me. I recently started some pretty strenuous exercises and that’s when my problem, knee/hip, pain, showed up on an on going basis.

But. my knees feel the best they do all day immediately after exercising. I’m continuing to modify my exercise routings that now include knee pain exercises. It seems to be getting better but like always – Time is the teller of all.

I would buy these shoes again and do recommend them.

I’ve tried several doctors, several brand of shoe, insoles and treatments by these doctors and nothing helped. Almost 4 years of miserable foot pain radiating up my legs to my knees. It seemed that stretching and frozen water bottles would help a little but as soon as I put shoes on and made my daily attempts to work and do normal activities I would return to an excruciating pain and a miserably painful evening of trying to recover to do it all again the following day.

I’m still fighting it but the Ortho feet shoes are reducing the pain and allowing me to do more than with any other shoe. I’m thankful for any reduction in pain. I recommend them with no hesitation. Thanks Ortho Feet.

I am very pleased with the shoes i got. I have a very sorry Achilles an with the support I got plus a heal pad I can walk almost pain free with my dog everyday on his walk. They are his adventure and take awhile and cover a good distance.

I bought this shoe in brown on 2-10-2021. So it has been 14 months since. I like the shoe and it is comfortable. I have neuropathy in both feet, the right being worse. The shoes don’t cure anything but help somewhat.

My problem is that the velcro on the right shoe has worn so that it doesn’t close/fasten anything like it did. I do like the velcro fastening way of putting on the shoe better than having to tie the shoes.

I am diabetic and I work as a corrections officer, we work 12 hour shifts on concrete constantly walking. My feet were hurting an hour into each shift. I have tried many shoes and boots over the past 10 years without relief.

I decided I would try one more time to get a good shoe it was the best thing I ever did. These shoes are like walking with out touching the ground,I liked them so much I ordered the Sandles and have not regretted the decision.

I emailed the company to see if shoes for true to size, they are. My father is 89, diabetic, and a Veteran. He was constantly falling. The shoes arrived in 8 days. I already had purchased diabetic socks for him.

He has not fallen once! FYI Only, you cannot just buy a pair of shoes because diabetics tend to wear “regular” socks. So they are creating numbness in the calf and ankle area. This creates a perfect storm of instability for a fall.

We were in there ER 3 x, the doctors could leave an impression with their index finger on my father’s calves. Each told us, socks are too tight! New socks, new shoes. All is good! Thank you.

This is my second pair from Orthofeet, the first being a tie shoe, this having a velcro closure. I was a bit concerned with the velcro closure, and with most new shoes, they need to be broken in. The first day I wore them all day with no issues.

I’m diabetic and the wider toe box makes the shoe more comfortable for me. I’m having a hard time giving up my other pair of Orthofeet shoes, which are now about 3 years old, so I do alternate, I have 3 other older pairs of shoes, different brands, that look brand new because they never get worn.

Just not as comfortable as the Orthofeet.

I have lots of arthritis and have had both shoulders and both knees replaced. This is the ONLY shoe I ever had that allowed me to adjust the straps on BOTH sides of the shoe! I can’t even reach the outside of my right foot, but with these, I can adjust the strap on the INSIDE of my shoe.

Amazing! PLEASE, PLEASE make some more shoes that can be adjusted on the INSIDE of the shoe. I will buy them. And consider making shoes that help with supination instead of always pronation. Actually, having your foot roll outward instead of inward is a big problem, and having flexible outers (which feel great), can make supination even worse.

Pushing off with your little toes instead of your big toe makes for a lot of problems. Even so, these are the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever had. I really wish they also made them in a shiny material so they could look a little more formal, but I’ll wear them anyway.

I was hesitant to buy these at first, having spent hundreds on orthotics and other shoes to fix the chronic amount of pain my feet were in from standing on them at work for 8 hours a day. I could barely walk after my shifts, and on my days off the pain from plantar fasciitis was excruciating.

Then someone recommended these to me and I went ahead and gave it a try. The minute I slipped them on I knew it was a game-changer. I have used them for a few weeks so far at work and my feet do not hurt at all! I am able to be mobile and not deal with excruciating pain at home on my off days now.

I plan to buy a few more pairs for my non-work life as well! If you are hesitant about buying these shoes, afraid they don’t work I’m telling you they absolutely do! Do not be afraid to try them out! I also have high insteps, wide wide feet, and I am plus-sized.

The fit was roomy, I normally have to order a 10. 5 or an 11 to fit the width and height of my feet. I ordered a 10 extra wide and they were roomy! I might go down to a 9. 5 next order.

I appreciate all the inserts that came with these shoes. I customized mine with the extra arch support and the pad that goes under the front of my foot for extra cushioning due to my Morton’s neuroma.

The velcro straps over my instep and behind my heel allow me to make adjustments for the fact that my feet differ in size by a full half size and also my socks vary in thickness. I can also easily adjust these shoes as my feet swell during the day on warmer days.

The design is more open than sneakers so they allow for more air circulation and my feet sweat less on warmer days. I love these shoes! They are everything I hoped they would be: comfortable, supportive, flexible, and I love how they look! Thank you Orthofeet!!!.
