20 Best Dolby Atmos In Ceiling Speakers (2023 Updated)

Having recently updated my 15+ year old Polk setup with Prime Towers, Center and Satellites at the bed level, I purchased 4 of the Elevations to install on the ceiling to replace my Pioneer upfiring Atmos speakers in a 7.

1. 4 config. Pros: 1. Installation on the ceiling was incredibly easy with the provided brackets and the rubber block to lock the speakers into the ceiling brackets is a very nice (and simple) piece of engineering.

2. The sound perfectly matches the other speakers in the Prime series, giving me a cohesive dome of sound in my room. Outstanding placement of sounds both above the listener and imaged between the height and bed layers.

Cross-channel imaging between every speaker is very precise! 3. Build quality is solid, and I really like the look of these speakers on my ceiling. Cons: 1. The center of gravity when hanging on the ceiling brackets causes the speaker to settle back toward the heavier bottom side of the speaker.

With any of the wall mounting options, this wouldn’t be a problem, but with ceiling mounting I feel like a soft layer of padding between the two brackets (maybe an optional compressible gasket?) would make that connection more solid.

As it is, there is a bit too much play between the bracket and the mount on the speaker. 2. Specs aside, Audyssey tries to cross my front pair at 80Hz and my rear pair at 100Hz, even with the angles in my room being almost perfect per Dolby guidelines and best mic practices in use.

When you look at the measured in-room response, it’s clear that these speakers could have used just a hair more low-end reproduction to better hit that 80Hz sweet spot. Given how narrow the cabinets are, I think making the speaker a little wider could have given them the cabinet volume needed to get response more consistently down below 80Hz in most rooms with this small a driver.

That said, even when crossed over at 100Hz, they sound vastly better than the Pioneer upfirers or my Polk in-ceilings did at my old house. The spec’d -3dB response of 55Hz is a little optimistic, and in-room response plummets like a stone below 80Hz, leaving little room for an 80Hz crossover to transition smoothly across its range.

3. Given how most will use this, it would have been nice for the binding posts to be a little more recessed into the cabinet or better angled to accommodate banana plugs. The worst part of my on-ceiling install was having to try to hold the speaker while I wired it up to place it in the bracket, and this would have been made far easier if more room had been allowed for most standard banana plugs.

Not a deal breaker, because once it’s up, it’s up. All that said, these are fantastic speakers for the price and I have thoroughly enjoyed watching movies with these in place. They’re perfect when paired with the other speakers in the Prime series, and would very likely play nicely with speakers from other brands.

I wish there was a way to make them more aesthetically pleasing. Installed in my open area combo living room, dining room and kitchen, they stick out like warts. I wish there was an enclosure designed to mount flush with my walls.

With my vaulted ceilings, this is really the only “good method” of getting Dolby Atmos surround in my listening area. As far as sound and enhancing my TV viewing and listening experience, they are great.

My 0. 4-Dolby Atmos speaker arrangement using these speakers enhances the sound envelope by surrounding the listener with immersive sound. If you don’t mind a little aesthetic discomfort, these are a worthy addition to your home theater when ceiling mounted speakers aren’t an option.

I’m a SVS subwoofer owner and fan and I will recommend those all day every day. My first experience with loudspeakers was just ok. Prime Elevations in White – Finish – These are very well made and look great.

The design is very good. Sound quality – Average at best. Highs and mids were too laid back and (not that I was expecting much) there is little bass to speak of. Disappointing for a $500 pair. Mounting – The mounting process is very simple and there are a variety of positions to suit most scenarios.

Having said that, in both houses I’ve built with pre-wiring for discrete channels, the builders spooled the wire inside a standard gang box (switch / 2 outlet size). This mounting hardware affords no way to completely conceal the box.

It’s not big enough to straddle it and the mounting bracket is in a position that doesn’t allow the speak to overhang it. Not a massive deal, but it does look messy, having the gang box cover sticking out from under it.

Summary – These are very easy to mount and fill the duty of a channel like height adequately. I would never use them for a front or primary surround channel due to sound quality.

Keep in mind when you add Atmos speakers you only get a little sound out of them until all hell breaks loose on your TV/Home theater. These paired well with my B&W speakers. I had purchased the Klipsh Atmos speakers.

No bueno. All that being said try them and see. Best Atmos solution is ceiling speakers. This is a close second. I also recommend the B&W M-1’s are less money and just as affective.

Recently decided to get these atmos speakers as I had a older KEF Q1s as height. So glad I did, it’s a brilliant addition to the standard 5. 1. I now have a complete package of KEF and it’s a welcoming additional adding those atmos.

It is subtle but definitely an improvement also. As always Richer Sounds have great advice. Thanks as always!.

Got these small speakers for the Dolby ATMOS option for our home Audio/Visual system. Coupled with the larger MartinLogan speaker that we previously purchased; they make movie watching like we’re in our own movie theatre! Can now here bugs, chirps, ricochets and other movie sounds.

I have added these on top of my motion 15 rears, they are a perfect fit. I do wish they came in white to match but thats ok, I’ll deal with that later. They are smaller than my Motion 40s so I’m actually putting another brand on those.

These are a little expensive for what you get but if you want to match then this is your option.

I tested these out with mixed results. I unplugged all the speakers but the upfiring atmos speakers(4 in total) From time to time I could hear sound from above, but most of the time I could tell it was coming from the speakers.

I really wanted these to be more convincing as I didn’t want to put holes in the ceiling, but the sound experience doesn’t come close to in ceilings. So I’ll probably be cutting holes.

The short – The sound quality is quite good and well rounded (highs/mids/lows). The long – I set this up in the living room in a 5 speaker config (no sub) to have surround sound for movies. After setting them up I can say I am impressed.

This is on the main floor with second story above. I cannot say how these would perform if put into a ceiling with attic (open) above. I was initially concerned that there would be a lack of low-end frequencies, but they do a pretty good job! Obviously not what a dedicated sub would do, but the 8″ woofer can push some air! Solid all around to be honest and I don’t feel like I NEED* to add a subwoofer.

I was initially looking at much more expensive options and was holding off just due to overall expense (needed 7 total) but I am glad I did. I did catch a good deal around Boxing Day which is what enticed me, but I’m not regretting not getting the more costly, “better” (maybe), speakers.

I don’t consider myself an audiophile but I do like good sound, especially for listening to music. These did a bit better than just meeting my expectations and I have past experience with other premium brands.

The install was fairly straight forward as well – Cut the hole to the size of the included template, insert speaker, tighten the 4 screws that adjust the width of the clamps. They are big however, so you will want to make sure you measure so as not to hit a joist.

9. 375″ diameter cutout for reference. I don’t think you can go wrong here.

Product was easy to install. Sound quality is acceptable for the sale price. Grill should have been powder coated white instead of grey from the factory. Grill is pressure fitted instead of using magnets which makes removal difficult.

Great speakers and we’re at a great price. They work great and for Atmos and as a multi speaker setup. It’s been an amazing addition to my home theater and looks great in my ceiling. Easy to install..

First, I’m a huge stereo guy. I’ve owned Rogers LS3/5A (should have never sold them) and I currently run Tekton MOABs (about $8k) on a Primaluna tube amp (about $4k) I bought these for rear speakers with Klipsch RP-500M Bookshelf Speakers and a Canton sub connected to a Nak AV-10.

I thought these might just work as sound fillers with expectations not very high. Honestly if I was going it again, I’d probably use 4 of these and forget the rest. VERY IMPRESSED. Loud enough and bassey enough (in a BIG room 16×30) to easily fill it with sound.

You won’t be disappointed IMHO.

These were put into the living room to replace old Klipsch OSC-2 speakers. Great sound and high range makes it nice for louder volume. This was and easy install going up from 6 inch to the bigger speaker.

Template was in box so I used a drywall saw and the opening cut was easy. Very efficient speakers.

These Speakers are amazing with real quality. Have 12 set up in my home in different areas. Clear – Crips sound. These speakers are 6. 5″, keep in mind the max output is at 140 watts— that higher than your competitive 8″ speakers.

Good buy highly recommend them.

I’ve listened to lots of in ceiling speaker. Mid and highs are great with these like many speakers in this price range but what I really like is the bass. Often in ceiling speakers produce a kind of thump in the lowest tones instead of a musical note and I hear a gap between the high bass and the low midrange.

To my ears the RT70s don’t try to produce really deep bass but give very good detail in the lower bass right through to the mids and highs. And the way the woofer is mounted up inside the housing and ported to the front makes much them less fussy about what they are mounted too than other designs.

Build quality is excellent, clamping tabs have just the right amount of friction. Make sure you have lots of room above the drywall, these speakers are tall. The magnetic grills are awesome.

(Electronics) I researched subs onlnie for a month, and then finally decided on Polk’s PSW111. I have since owned the PSW111 for 2 months; and thus far it has been great, working perfecly with my 5. 1 surround sound system.

I use it every day for at least 8 hours, listening to music and playing Xbox 360 games. The gun fire and explosians in Call of Duty 4 are made much more intense with the bass produced by the PSW111! I bought the PSW111 because my old Klipsch-sub burnt out, and I had to go with NO bass for 9 long months! When I finally hooked up the PSW111 and heard the bass, I was so throughlly pleased The sub isn’t magnetically shielded, so I have to keep it away from most of my other electronics; but that’s not a problem because most subs are not shielded.

I spent $50 on a gold plated-6 Monster cable, kinda funny since the sub itself only cost $200. I live in a small apt, and it fits perfecly. I have the bass set at 1/2 power, and it is perfect for my ears.

If you are a person who lives alone in a big house, this sub should still do you just fine, because maxing out the dial on the sub will create a room-shattering amount of bass. However, I’m not sure keeping the sub at max would be a good idea in the long term; for the life of the sub, but I’m no expert.

Pros: + The sub is small, sexy looking and pretty damn powerful. + Built very solid, no rattling, no boomy sound whatsoever. + Xbox 360 games sound rediculously amazing with the PSW111. Cons: – The PSW111 costs slightly more than its bigger 10 cousin.

– Not magnetically shielded (but not many subs are so who cares). – It weighs more then it looks like it should, so I suppose that’s kinda a positive thing! Conclusion: If you’re looking for a small-sized, but still very powerful subwoofer, then this sub is HIGHLY recomended! I myself am a videophile, but I can attest that the PSW111 will please all you audiophiles.

Love these speakers!!! The fit seamlessly into the ceiling and were fairly easy to install. They look and sound great, and the price was the best I was able to find online.

This system is a beast both in size and in the excellence of the quality of sound it reproduces. I have had soundbars as part of my TV setups for years, but this system from Sony is, in my opinion, the best I have ever had and heard.

I was at first worried by the physical size of the units, these are big compared to other systems but there is a reason for this, in that they are packed with technology and quality components for the sole purpose of immersing you in that cinematic and entertainment experience that we all love.

This system does this by the bucketful. My system comprises of the HT-A7000 soundbar, the SA-SW5 wireless Subwoofer and the SA-RS3S wireless rear speakers. The design of the components of this system are so sleek and modern, and by using a combination of quality materials ensures that this sound system looks the part in any environment it is being used.

I found that setting up the system straightforward, as I was replacing an older Sony system it was like plug and play, with the technology finding and connecting all the additional speakers within seconds, running the sound field optimiser and I was ready to go (listen).

The written instructions that come with the system comprehensive and will ensure that you are able to set the system up to ensure optimal use. This speaker system can be used with a range of devices connected in several ways e.

g. , Bluetooth, USB and WIFI. The HT-A7000 can be used as a standalone system and when used on its own it utilises its built-in technology to create a virtual surround sound system, individually for the space you are using it in, that is second to none.

It has a combination of front speakers, tweeter speakers and bass speakers. Some of the speakers point upwards which you can really hear when you stand up in your room. The system has several pre-defined settings that you can select dependent upon what you are watching / listening to.

E. G. Cinema, Music, Standard etc. These produce a great quality sound and are subtly different. The voice clarity of the spoken words through this sound system is the best I have heard. For me, the system produces the best sound when you use the Immersive AE function and let the software enhance the sound and its distribution to produce a wonderful, immersive, and entertaining viewing experience.

This really is a fantastic sound system but for me, what elevates it to an ultimate system is the addition of the wireless sub-woofer speaker and the wireless surround sound speakers. Attaching these was so simple all you need is a power socket but no other cables to run around the room.

These speakers were recognised and connected by the system within seconds of switching on. These powerful additional speakers have their own volume settings that can be adjusted to suit your taste, but I have to say the deep bass of the sub-woofer, the clarity of the surround speakers together with the combination of sounds from the HT-A7000 sound bar really do make the experience totally immersive and the best I have heard.

For me watching movies at home is now as close as it can be to watching them at the cinema. Whilst watching a movie, I thought at one point I had a water leak running down the inside of my wall only to realise the sound of running water was in the movie coming through the speaker system.

I love it. This sound system looks great and sounds even better, the only tiny disappointment is the quality of the remote-control unit, I would like to see the cover being a bit more substantive, that would complement the other materials used, possibly even a form of metal.

Would I recommend this product? Yes, absolutely without hesitation. The quality and clarity of the sound is fantastic, the set up so straightforward. For me, the ultimate immersive experience is when you use the HT-A7000 with the Sony wireless sub-woofer and surround sound speakers.

I have had several very expensive AVRs from brands such as Sony, Onkyo, and Denon with speakers from Sony, Bose, and Def tech over the years with wires running around the floor. The HT-A7000 with surround speakers and sub does sound better than any of the other setups I have had and cost about the same with the bonus of true wireless surround speakers.

The sound bar has a pretty decent GUI to navigate onscreen although not as robust as my previous AVRs. It also has fantastic sound calibration setup software compared to Audyssey and without the use of a wired microphone.

If you are looking for a sound bar with 2 Hdmi 2. 1 inputs that supports Dolby Vision and has true wireless rear up firing speakers that can run off internal batteries this is as of right now the only option I know about.

If you do not need the above options you might be better off spending less on another brand. I purchased the HT-A7000 sound bar, SA-RS5 rear speakers, and the SA-SW5 sub together with a discounted price of $2,299.

97. A month later after intense testing I am still very happy with the purchase. If you plan to only stream movies you will probably be disappointed with what the major streaming services call Dolby Atmos.

I would not recommend spending this much on a sound bar to stream movies. Do yourself a favor and get a 4k blu ray player. There is a huge difference in sound quality when using a 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray Disc player vs streaming especially on 4K movies that use Dolby Atmos or DTS:X.

I tested the sound bar without the surrounds and sub and it does a fantastic job with virtual surround by itself if you sit no more the 7 feet from it. Any further than 8 feet you will definitely want to add rear surrounds and a sub.

The dialogue is loud and clear and the surrounds do a fantastic job of only producing sound that should be in the rear. The sub fills my 15’X18’ living room with massive bass. There is NO Ethernet port and you must use wifi or usb to update the firmware and cast music to the bar.

(Negative one star for whoever at Sony didn’t believe this MSRP of $1400 sound bar didn’t need an Ethernet port).

Tried both the ht-a5000 and this one ht-a7000 paired with the Sony 77” a80j. Liked The idea of using the tv speakers to help center and helped, but disappointed overall with the lack of sound adjustment.

I had the surround speakers and the sw5 subwoofer. The subwoofer has the Capability to put out good bass but not at the right frequency for my taste. I felt like the voices were muffled with certain content, especially playing purchased movies on google play movies app.

When you increase the bass all the way to get the deep bass rumble in action packed movies, it also adds the bass to the voices and other sounds and was very annoying. I could not hear voices good, even after playing with all adjustments and calibrations, for the 15 day return period.

The demo sounded amazing, yet when I would play a surround test off YouTube app, some of the sounds didn’t get output to any of the speakers. It played fine on the tv speakers, so the audio was there, but it’s almost like the sound bar stripped out audio.

Even the sound presets they have do not make a big enough difference in sound distinguish. I probably would of kept the setup if there was an equalizer like the tv has, so I can adjust it so the higher frequency vocals and sounds are more crisp and less bass, and make the lower frequency sounds get more bass.

Also I do not like the fabric on the top and sides of the a7000 sound bar. I preferred the ht-a5000 design better. But the a7000 had better left and right front surround, and a little better treble. I would never recommend this to someone if they are not connecting it to a tv with the s-center sync feature, because the sound would be even more muffled.

I really wanted to like it, but due to Sonys lack of adjustments, I had to return it all and will be unfortunately looking at another brand.

Wow! I purchased these speakers to function as in ceiling rear surrounds and they do not disappoint. At first these were being purchased as a compromise. I wanted an immersive, cinema experience in our home.

My wife didnt want speaker towers behind our couch. These are the solution. Driven by a Marantz AVR, along with other Klipsch Reference Premier speakers, the CDT-5800s perfectly compliment my setup as in ceiling surrounds.

I will be ordering more for an Atmos installation soon. These speakers are not a compromise. I have the immersive experience that I craved. My wife has maintained the aesthetic of the room. We are happy with our selection.

The Klipsch 5800 CT II is the final touch that goes with my Klipsch system. These are great for Dolby Atmos speakers. I now have 4 and feel complete on my movie experience in my man cave. If you are looking for me Ill be enjoying the Klipsch 8000 tower speakers, 502S surround sound, 504 C center Chanel, 4 CDT 5800-C II, with a SW-115 Sub.

Pushed by Denon 6400H and Amped by Outlaw 5000. My retirement present to myself. I may never leave this Man Cave.

These speakers are awesome. The Klipsch ME-800-C metal enclosuers were used for the installlation which assist in bringing out the awesome sound and for the fire safety aspect. The directional speaker ability assist to customize the sound characteristics for the room as well.

These are probably the best speaker currently on the market for a home entertainment application.

I purchased eight of these SONOS round, white speakers about 14 months ago from Best Buy, Lakewood. They were on sale for approximately $250 at the time (the regular retail is around $588). In addition to the cost of these speakers I had to purchase a receiver and a separate gadget that would allow each speaker to be turned on.

Because I did not want to crawl around the attic I had to pay someone in addition to run the wires, cut the holes in the ceiling, and mount the speakers-costing around $900. My house is around 1500 sq feet so putting two speakers in each room should have been plenty of sound power.

Was it worth the trouble and cost? No! Here’s the nasty truth, these speakers, for all their vaunted tech and high price, deliver below average sound quality. Their quality is about on a par with speakers made decades ago.

They do not deliver rich, powerful treble or bass! They put out strictly functional sound. What a waste of time and trouble! My girlfriend laughed at me, and she is right. Instead of what I’ve done, she simply paid for a few Bose sound bars and put them in a few rooms, and everything is wireless.

Her sound quality is 3 times what I’m getting from these speakers at a much cheaper price. I’ll say it again, the sound from her Bose speakers, just sitting on the counter, is a good three times the richness, power, base and treble, than these round SONOS speakers.

In addition, if one of her Bose speakers goes out she just uses the warranty or gets a new one, whereas I have to deal with techs and not only the speaker but also the receiver, getting up to the ceiling, etc.

So, again, for all the cost and trouble, if the ceiling speakers don’t put out GREAT sound, it is a waste of money. If you want high quality sound, just go with a sound bar, such as made by Bose. You can try other manufacturers as well.

So, the positive is that I do have sound in each room. But again, it is strictly functional, not high quality.

This product is great. I bought my first home recently and ended up going with all Sonos equipment for my home audio system except for my surround sound systems( however I did purchase the Sonos Port to control this zone).

The multiple zone audio for my house is just breathtaking. The in ceiling speakers basically disappear into the ceiling and I sometime forget they are even there! So far it has been an incredibly simple and superior system for a starter home audio system.

Love these speakers and the design. Super easy to mount, sound great and minimalistic design to blend in with a white ceiling. Someone in another review I had previously read said they sound similar to a 2nd gen Sonos Play 5.

I’d say that’s fairly accurate. They will distort much easier than the average Sonos speaker. I have about every Sonos speaker made and these distort much easier than any of them. I limited the volume to 85% to avoid blowing them.

I’d play around with that before you go blasting them at 90% volume. I paired them with a sub and put them in my ceiling in my basement above my bar and connected them to my TV. The phantom center channel is surprisingly pretty darn good.

I probably wouldn’t use it like that in my living room but in my bar area it is perfect. Highly recommend these. I also have a 2nd pair running in my living room as surround speakers paired with a 3rd gen Sonos sub and the new Sonos Arc.

Pretty awesome setup and they make great rear speakers and you can’t even see them. Love them. They are pretty expensive but if the look is what you’re going for with solid quality they won’t disappoint.

Arrived quickly and in perfect (new, never opened) condition. Installed both in 2 hrs, including cutting holes in my ceiling. Directing the cone and tweeter to my sitting position was easy and intuitive.

Magnetic covers are perfect. Sound was excellent out of the box. Modified crossovers to 70hz and that much better with rest of my Klipsch 5. 1. 2 setup. Very pleased!.

Appears to be authentic Klipsch product but no warranty card with product. All literature and speaker appears complete. Install perfect and sounds great as Atmos speaker.

I purchased four of these speakers for the height (ceiling speakers) to compliment/complete my theatre room 7. 2. 4 system. The rest of the speakers are Klipsch reference 35 series and powered by an Anthem 1120 receiver.

the sound with music or movies with Dolby Atmos is amazing and immersive. My personal preference in sound is absolute clarity, no distortion, and accuracy in sound. Therefore with my preference in sound these get a 10/10 out of me.

I bought this a month ago and to be honest I thought it was a bit of a frivolous purchase because I already have a 5. 1 system and there is not much atmos content out there. However, it was an exact match with my Monitor Audio Bronze speaker package and I thought I would give it a try.

They fit neatly on top of my existing speakers and have the fringe benefit of stopping people using them like occasional tables :). While I have not really experienced much of the vertical sound with atmos the overall immersion of the soundtrack for existing 5.

1 and 7. 1 soundtracks is just so much better when the Denon amp is upscaling it to atmos. My rear speakers are a bit too far away and these guys just fill the gap in perfectly. I live in an apartment building and I can now play my movies quietly enough with a full surround experience.

A great purchase I am very happy with them.

If you’re like me and didn’t fancy speakers on your walls or ceilings these are a great solution. What I like about them is they integrated well sat on top on the bronze 200. Minimal effort to get ATMOS effects.

Build quality’s is as you’d expect from monitor audio. Only slight issue I had was they were only available in black or white.

Purchased this after my 15yr old denon expired. Wanted to add some extra height dolby atmos speakers to my 5. 1 surround sound system and boy was it worth it. Now sounds better than at cinema when watching films.

Had a scene were a helicopter circled a house and landed and could hear this from inside. WOW.

I bought the second pri. e center for my rear surrounds. I now have all SVS speakers for my 7. 1 surround home theater. I have the ultra surrounds for my side surrounds, four prime elevations for my atmosphere speakers, two ultra towers for my main left and right speakers, ultra center for center channel, and pb4000 for sub duties.

Entire system sounds awesome and is powered by Denon x6700h av receiver. Let me say that at reference settings it’s too loud. Pb4000 set to -20 and still shakes my house. The ultra towers are some serious bass shakers on their own, let me say when I first got the ultra towers I was not impressed with their sound, sounded tinny almost like klipsch speakers.

Hate klipsch speakers, any ways I sat through a week of listening and was about to ship them back, just didn’t feel like having to box them back up, so decided to try them for another week, boy am I glad I waited.

Now everytime I listen to them they just keep sounding better. More often then not I just leave my pb4000 off and can say I don’t miss it when watching movies or listening to music. Love watching ready player one the sound is awesome.

They do give a 45 day trial so if you don’t like what you hear you can send it back free. I honestly love these speakers. They don’t have massive bass but, don’t lack it either. It’s a speaker where I can say its very neutral and calm to listen to.

I find myself listening to these speakers with out any fatigue. I own Focal speakers in my bar room/man room and got these SVS Pinnacle for my living room. These Pinnacles are very outstanding where ever you place them.

I found them to be very easy to hide because they sound great anywhere in my room. My Focal needed much more space and sounded very boom luster in tighter spaces where these SVS Pinnacles blended in with ease.

I would totally recommend these speakers if you are lacking space of placement. If you have all the room in the world you can definitely find another speaker with a bit more bass or define speaker at the price range but, I haven’t heard another speaker like these in my living room.

PS: I have owned klipsch/polk/pioneer/Diamond/ and B&W. These Pinnacles are either equivalent or superior to my previous B&W 700 series. CHEERS!.

Cannot express how disappointed I am in just how bad the DTS Play-Fi app is for the main wireless control of the wireless speaker system (and SoundBase). While I’ve only had the speakers for a few days, very disappointed over all due to the lack of control over these speakers.

I would say the quality of the build and the sound of these speakers is top notch, everything I’ve come to expect from SVS (I run SVS Ultra towers, center, bookshelf speakers, and dual PB-3000s in my HT – spectacular), but the inability to adequately control the speakers via the app, or with a supplied remote (which SVS doesn’t make) really limits your ability to control the speakers unless you’re sitting within arms reach.

I often, depending on what I’m doing while listening to music, want / need to turn the audio down … nope, have to get up and do that, want to switch sources, nope, get up and do that, get a phone call while using the DTS Play Fi app, sorry, music stops and doesn’t restart when the call finishes, in fact, opening the PlayFi app and it’s reset to the main page like you were never listening to music in the first place … two thumbs down on this !@#$%’ing app.

I also found the delay in response when adjusting the volume via the app just too slow, not to mention the “tiny’ little slider it uses. Other issues I’ve encountered with the app over the past few days is the intermittent lose of music, randomly for minutes at a time before it starts up again, or having the Play Fi app lock up and just show a spinning wheel of death, which I’m only able to clear by shutting down my phone and starting it back up … super frustrating.

I run a gigabit service from the local ISP to my home, so wired connectivity is typically 850Mb/s up, and the WiFi signal throughout my home averages 300-500MB/s down and 35 – 50MB/s up, so I know the signal is good.

Note: All of the app frustrations and lack of control and intermittent loss of music also applies to the wireless sound base I ordered at the same time. Why SVS didn’t’ develop there own control app is beyond me.

I also own a few of the Bose Sound Touch speakers … they come with remotes for easy speaker control from across the room as well as a Bose designed app that is tailored to their product, while the SVS speakers sound better, Bose has it over SVS in the control department in every aspect.

All that to say the DTS Play-Fi app ruins the user experience for what is otherwise a great product/s … still mulling over whether or not to send both the wireless speakers and the SoundBase back, this DTS Play-Fi app experience has just soured this whole experience.

This set was recommended to me, by a member of staff. The speaker set that I had intended to buy had been out of stock for many months, and these were a good alternative. They were far more expensive than I had originally intended to pay, but they are worth every penny.

The sound is clear, precise and detailed. The bass is really punchy when it needs to be, and quiet, whispered dialogue is crystal clear. This gives me true “room-filling” surround sound, which is the whole purpose of the newly-advanced audio formats.

Only the front speakers have the height channels added in, so both front channel speakers need to be wired in twice. The rear speakers only have one pair of speaker terminals, and the centre speaker is exactly the same speaker as the rear pair (just turn it on it’s side).

Each terminal can only accept bare wire, so you do not need banana plugs. The subwoofer (“cub evo”) is basically just a large black cube, with a circular hole cut front centre. I have set the volume level almost a quiet as possible, and yet it it still provides a satisfying, solid presence, and is neither overpowering, nor distracting.

The balances and crossovers on this speaker set seem to be easy to configure, If you wish to have either 7. 1. 2 or 5. 1. 4 speaker configurations, you will need to invest in an extra pair of speakers.

I may consider this at some point, but right now, my front room just isn’t big enough. This speaker array is paired with the Onkyo Tx-Rz740 Atmos THX receiver, and the Optoma UHD51ALVe 4K HDR projector, and essentially completes my home cinema setup.

Bought a pair of the Prime Pinnacle and an SB1000 pro to go with them. These towers sound better than other speakers I have heard at nearly twice the price. The SB1000 pro truly punches well above its price point.

I would challenge anyone to find a better performing sub anywhere near the price. The inclusion of the app to control and adjust the sub is awesome and truly brings home audio into the 21st century. I am also using the Sound Base for an integrated amp solution and other than the normal “needs a remote” and “PlayFi is a bit clunky” complaints I have loved it.

I can barely get to 20% gain on it before the volume gets out of hand. I am really hoping SVS releases a new revision of the Sound Base with those issues resolved. Originally I had purchased a $1200 Marantz receiver and it made the speakers sound horrible.

Once I got the Sound Base hooked up, it was night and day. The towers came to life and had the middle and low end as well as the dynamics I was expecting. Less than half the price of the Marantz and it stomped all over it.

With all that being said, I think the best part of the experience has been in dealing with the support crew at SVS. From some questions on the initial setup to getting me squared away with licensing for the PlayFi MS Windows program they have been outstanding.

Always helpful and friendly, never rushed to move on to the next call. Just a class act group of people on the support team. They have still proven it over the last week when due to my error in misplacing one of the rubber feet that were included with the speakers, they shipped me out new ones free of charge.

When I realized I had not been specific about needing the rubber ones and had said carpet spikes, They again have shipped me out what I needed (again, the fault lies with me) once again free of charge.

I am not typically one to be a brand loyalist but in the case of SVS, as long as they continue to produce amazing products at very reasonable prices, I am an SVS customer for life. I just need to decide what loud speakers I want to setup in my office to go along with the second SB1000 pro I am currently using with another set of towers.

What I can tell you is that whatever I choose, it will certainly have an SVS badge on it.

THANK YOU for taking the time to ask how we like the Prime Bookshelf speakers. I would like to tell you a story that will hopefully, not bore you to tears. I am 81 years old and my beautiful wife, Linda, is 75.

Over the course of time and several attempts at getting the right sound we are certainly getting closer. The REAL beginning began After the advent of the Blu-ray Disc, June 20, 2006. Thank You Sony!!! Prior to the Blu-ray Disc everything was just kind of flat and not terrible exciting! For many years we have always had 2 surround sound systems.

One in our living area, with a Pioneer Receiver and speaker wires that connect through walls into our Master Bedroom, two for outside by our Pool and one connect to the inside of our Sauna Room. Also a 5.

1 system in our Living room. The Music we play on this system emanates for an iPod with over 2500 tunes, most from the 1940’s thru about 1976. A marvelous collection of OLD Tunes, with lots of Big Band sounds, and of course Frank.

As well as all the popular music from the early 50s thru 1976 or so. Our main media Room is Small (12 x 12) and specifically set up to bring great Blu-ray audio from our 400 Blu-ray Movie Collection.

For the past 10 years we have been using Definitive Technology Speakers. Front L/R Studio Monitor 65. Center CS9060. The height and surrounds are Definitive Technology ProMonitor 800s. We also have 2 Subwoofers in this room.

Definitive Technology SC6000 and SC4000. A new 65″ UltraHD 65″ Samsung screen, a Roku and a Sony UBP x800 4k Player. The driving force is our Pioneer SC-LX701 AVR. For many years we have truly enjoyed the audio in this room, and I am always looking for either different and or better audio.

In other words, I have never stopped looking at other speakers to compare and inquire and sometimes buy! Never wanting the same sound and never really knowing if the speakers we are running are too much for the room.

And on and on it goes. last year I bought a pair of Wharfedale Reva 2 speakers. After a few weeks, these were not doing it for us. Not enough excitement and or punch, So we re wrapped these and set them on a shelf in the garage and brought back the def tech 65s.

We have a Blu-ray we use to listen and also test out new speakers. “Hotel California” like you never heard before! Volume way up, of course! My oh My what a PERFECT Album!!! There are more than a few other Blu-ray Movie scenes that also work quite well.

Last Monday we received your (ours now) Prime Bookshelf Speakers. We disconnected and re-wrapped the Studio Monitor Def Tech 65s and connected our New SVS Prime Bookshelf Speakers. I did all the proper Pioneer AVR set up and Calibration, etc.

In the end, all speakers set on Small and 80hz Crossover, etc. After about 40 hours of Break in time I have done this Calibration one more time. Hopefully these new SVS prime Bookshelf Speakers are settling in properly.

as they are on either side of our 65″ screen and a couple of feet away from the back wall. Linda and I are both pleasantly surprised at the big Sound that fills the room. One of the first things Linda said was these speakers have much better Clarity, and I agree.

We are so very pleased and wanted to pen a few words to Thank you for building a Great Speaker. I remain ever so hopeful I did not bore you with this story! Rather than a short review on this WONDERFUL product, I felt I needed to give you a little background on our many attempts at buying the proper Speaker.

After another 100 or so hours of Break in, I will pen a few more words on these marvelous speakers, I am sure. In the Meantime, please feel free to share our feelings about the Splendid SVS Bookshelf Speakers.

I would have loved going for the ULTRA Bookshelf Speakers, but the price slowed me down, as did Linda.

It is my very first SVS product and its customer service has been fantastic. Courteous and knowledgeable of the product. For the product itself, I only have few things that SVS to include in future models.

1) physical remote control: yes you can control the volume via playfi app however the motion is too abrupt. And for input selection purposes. 2) auto sensing of inputs: when you connect it via app, it automatically chooses wifi/internet and it returns to AUX as a default.

I was hoping I can use it with my TV optical out however which means I need to manually select the input at the unit and volume control via either the playfi app or manual adjustment at the unit. Maybe if cost makes sense: 1) Full 24/192 DAC 2) multiple digital inputs 3) dimming of rear Christmas lights (LAN lights flashes extremely bright.

Personally I don’t mind but it can be for some) Other than that, it has been great. It is my very first streamer that I can use with Amazon music, qobuz, and my own music library. DTS playfi integration is sufficient in my opinion.

Meaning yes I can ask for more but it is good enough for me to use without any issue (minus volume adjustment). Overall it meets my expectations and purposes for bedroom use. Its power outputs are good for my Elac Debut bookshelf speakers and sounds good enough.

It also has pre outs so expandability into a different poweramp or subwoofer is already provided.

I purchased speakers with a warranty about two years ago and after about 18 months there was a noticeable distortion at bass tones. It grew progressively worse so I took them in to Best Buy and got them replaced with little to no hassle because of the warranty.

However, the replacement speakers didn’t even last as long as the first set. It has been less than 3 months and they blew again. I am not a guy who cranks the volume either. Most of the time I watch news and home shows.

A couple times a week I may watch a movie, but rarely ever turn up the volume to 1/2 of volume meter. Best Buy no longer offers warranties, so I am going to have to deal with the Yamaha manufacturers warranty.

In the meantime, I purchased a pair of Klipsch in-ceiling speakers which appears to get great reviews. Crossing my fingers those will be better. I would not recommend the Yamaha speakers to anyone since they are extremely unreliable and prone to blowing in my experience.

I was building a house the the builder has a AV guy who does the home theater. He wanted me to buy five of the Sonance 6. 5 inch speakers that cost 599. 99. and was going to charge about $900 for the installation.

I bought 6 of these for 149 per pair and had GeekSquad come install them for about $50 with total tech support. I saved a butt load of money and got a system that sounds great. I’m not going to pretend these sound as good as Sonance but for less than $1000 (including the receiver) you get a great system.

They aren’t noticeable, the sound is still theater level, and they are affordable.

These are really nice sounding speakers, especially for the price. I installed 4 of them in basement ceiling of our family room. The family room takes up over half of a very basement. In the family room , we have a CD player, turn table and receiver.

Speakers make the old 33 records sound great,.

For the price range < $35 these are best sounding speakers. I have compared with polk, Micca, Pyle, Amazon basics and acoustic audio. Overall happy with the purchase and quality of speakers for my whole home audio set up.

Great value speaker for my secondary surround system. I had decent speaker for center channel and used 2 pairs of this speakers. It sounds ok but overall decent for small low cost surround.

I’ve had these speakers for over a year now and I’ve always been pleased with them, but a recent move around meant that I could get them positioned correctly within my listening room and this really did make a world of difference.

I now have the front Atmos speakers on wall brackets so that the up-firing speakers are just above ear level so the reflected sound from the ceiling works well for Atmos soundtracks. The tonal balance of the speakers overall is very pleasing.

They are clean, lively and dynamic and the sub packs a real punch when it needs to. Soundstage is huge and the general immersive effect is excellent. They work very well for both music and movies but positioning is everything here.

Thankfully with their specially designed wall brackets they are easy to place and aren’t imposing like many AV speaker packages. I think I will be happy with these for years to come, they encourage me to watch more movies.

I bought these because I wanted Atmos all in one, I’ve hd various 5. 1 systems over the years and didn’t think I would continue trend to update as and when. Nonetheless I decided to ditch my downgraded Wharfdale DX2’s, and after demoing the Focal Sib Evo and heard them with the vocal from theThe Magnificent showman it sounded out of this world they sound tremendous with music, so jumped in and bought them, I jumped to quick.

It’s now about nine months since buying them i’m so disappointed, I’ve calibrated and recalibrated over the months and they never sound involving enough in 5. 1. 2 or 5. 1. I even had a rep from RS come round a few day’s ago and did a calibration, I thought this had solved it at first, but now the system sounds as it always does.

So it looks like i’ll dump these and go for a better Dolby Atmos setup, unfortunately I bought these at the original asking price, now they’ve come down in price significantly so I’m going to have to take a huge drop in price.

And make sure I test any new speakers fully.

Putting together a home theater system for a small to medium sized room, i was pleasantly surprised with the sound coming from these small, stylish speakers. With an 8ft flat ceiling, the atmos speakers are coming through shockingly clear.

My only gripe would be the spring loaded connectors on the back, using 12AWG wire it can be slightly annoying but that’s it. Great sound at a good price.

These speakers were chosen for a reason – mostly my past experience with the quality of Polk Audio equipment. Making the right choice for a new installation is difficult, but it was an easy choice when considering the true “vanishing” feature of these speakers.

The room where these speakers were installed has a very high coffered ceiling which needed to be carefully treated so as not to destroy the architectural appeal of this feature in our home. Once installed, the V80’s blended nicely and did not compromise the architectural elegance of the coffered feature.

As for sound, well, that’s the second most important reason for choosing them. These speakers handle the gentle “lows” and the cinematic “highs” with ease and render a great listening experience for everyone – no matter where they are seated or standing.

Great speakers at a mid range price point. I installed them today with no hassle at all. The speakers came with a template, mark a spot in your ceiling where you want to install and ensure you are not going to hit any roof trusses or battens, trace around the template and cut ceiling plaster with gyprock saw.

Then connect speaker cable to speaker, fit the speaker in the hole and turn the 4 cams until they lock in place nice and firm, put on the magnetic thin grill and there you have it a very professional looking speaker in the ceiling that sounds fantastic.

I rate them highly so will be buying another pair for my covered alfresco area.
