I’ve reviewed a few cutting boards. The end grain boards are more attractive than the large blocks made from a single cut from a large tree. They’re also supposed to be more friendly to knives because they don’t dull the blades as quickly as the other boards.
Without exception, the end grain boards come ‘rough’ – the blocks are glued together, there may have been a bit of sanding during production, but the wood hasn’t been prepared for use as a cutting board.
To prepare the board requires rubbing mineral oil, or a mineral oil and beeswax solution, or just beeswax into the surface of the board, leaving it overnight, then rubbing the excess off the board. This takes time.
You’ve got to have the oil, wax, or a product designed for cutting boards. It’s often a hassle to prepare the board for use. The End Grain Teak Cutting Board from Ziruma shows respect for the customer.
The board is packed in a very attractive box – very suitable for use as a gift. The board is very attractive, with large, rectangular pieces of Teak glued to others in an attractive pattern. One side has a groove cut into it, designed to catch juices and other liquids that come from what’s being cut.
The other side, equally attractive, can be used for presentation – as a serving tray. A cutout on the edge makes it easy to pick up the rather hefty cutting board. This cutting board comes ready to use (although you may want to clean it before the first use).
It’s smooth, and has been ‘cured’ with beeswax and organic Coconut Oil. After a few weeks of use, maintenance involves rubbing beeswax (included in a small tin – buy more when you need it) onto the cutting board, leaving it for a while, then rubbing it off.
If you google it (or use another search engine), you’ll see which wood is best for a cutting board. Teak ranks near the top. The teak used in this cutting board is said to come with trees that are more than 25 years old.
This leaves the younger trees to mature. I really like this cutting board. I expect it to be an important addition to my kitchen for many years.
I got the end grain version of this, and it’s a real show-stopper. It’s definitely the most attractive chopping block I’ve ever had, and once effectively sealed, it’s so easy to use and maintain. The most common way I use it is for presenting different items off the grill, and I don’t really worry about what I’m putting on it because I sealed it effectively with the included board wax and have continued to maintain it with another type of board wax that I had on hand as well as mineral oil.
I have literally gone from putting grilled fish on it one day to a meat and cheese board the next because it cleans off so completely. There’s no residue left on it from whatever I put on it. The appearance is phenomenal.
The way that the end grain pieces are selected, as you can see in my images, seems to be that the pieces that are vertically adjacent to one another are cut from the same piece of wood, so the patterns are complementary.
It’s really a sight to behold. The teak wood itself is inherently quite good looking. Now, the photos were taken after I sealed it with wax and mineral oil. It looks a bit more raw when you first get it.
I also like that the branding is minimal and tasteful, unlike some cutting boards I’ve seen. I just can’t recommend this thing enough. It’s beautiful and highly functional. I have no fear of it wearing down with time as long as I continue to maintain it (which I intend to do).
I strongly suggest the end grain one even though it’s a bit more expensive. It’s totally worth it because it feels better to work with and has a much more attractive pattern. I’ve had edge grain boards from other brands, and while they’re not ugly, per se, the end grain look is superior, as is its performance.
I’m happy to report that I haven’t had any issues with this board at all, but I’ve seen in other reviews that this company seems to provide stellar customer service as well, so that’s something nice to keep in mind.
Overall, highly recommended. If you’re in the market for a nice chopping block like this, this one is phenomenal, and really fairly priced at $75 (currently) for the end grain version. ***I write reviews as a hobby because I love trying out electronics, clothing, household products, kitchen devices, and more.

This cutting board is excellent. A rare five stars. It’s made of teak, with a glassy smooth, natural finish. The detail in the wood is breathtaking. Beautiful teak. Overall feels very high end. The design is very thick and sturdy, with deep handles carved out in the sides, which are actually very useful for moving it around, due to its thickness.
One side is for cutting, the other for presentation. The craftsmanship seems excellent – mine has no imperfections, and is joined seamlessly all around, with deep handles carved out in the sides. Seems to have been put together with great care.
It is finished with coconut oil and organic beeswax – making it perfectly food safe. The packaging was also very well done. My daughter said it was beautiful and exciting to open. The first thing upon opening the box is a bit of instruction, and a pretty tin of organic beeswax displayed in the cardboard casing.
The board was under that layer, wrapped in beautiful paper with a sticker seal. She said she wanted to keep it in the packaging to keep looking at it. Would make an awesome gift for any home chef. My daughter (who has a high end kitchen) has nothing negative to say about it.

I’m glad I replaced my current one with this board! I will be honest from the pictures it looked thinker than the one I had, also it didn’t have a hole in it to hang! Also, I read one review that lower my expectation a little! When I opened it and start using it, I immediately loved it! First, it looks great! I love the size! It’s a little wider than my last one! We wanted a new large end-grain cutting board and were happy to be able to order this one that exactly fits the bill. We’ve had a round chopping block from the same company for years so had confidence that it would serve our needs.
This is a heavy duty board that is very beautiful and should serve well for years to come. All it take is a light coat of oil (we used Boos Mystery Oil). We let the oil dry overnight, then buffed off any residual.
We’ll repeat the process about once a month. And that’s all that’s needed except for routine cleaning after use. The board is 17 x 22 and quite heavy because it’s all hardwoods. We couldn’t be more pleased.
I’m in the process of upgrading my kitchen knife collection, as a result the cutting boards have to be upgraded as well. I don’t want glass or bamboo or cheap plastic dulling my German blades. First thing you should know is that this is END-GRAIN, not edge or flat grain.
End has micro grooves that open and then re-close as the knife cuts through them. Leaving minimal knife marks. Under $60. 00 for USA made boards is a steal! But they do require work, must use mineral oil rubbing it in until the board tells you it’s full, then once a month.

I was shopping around for a house warming gift with my friend and she was eying the square version and I liked hers so much I grabbed this round one. It’s so cute and I keep it out in my counter all the time.
The only thing that I’m not so happy with is the feet. You can see all the glue and it’s not pretty. Thankfully it’s not the part you see unless you’re cleaning but it’s enough to bother me. Otherwise, functionality of the board is great.

I bought this round cutting board to use for cutting and serving homemade pizzas. The woodgrain was beautiful and it was the exact size I needed. It makes a great serving piece to accompany my Epicurean pizza peel and cutter.
I do not use knives on this cutting board, so there is not much scaring using the pizza cutter. After use, I clean the surface and reapply mineral oil. The only issue I’ve had at all with this board is a slight tipping when trying to rock the pizza cutter through a tough crust.
The board has 4 feet and is well-balanced, so that’s not enough for me to change my rating on this product. I’m very satisfied with the cutting board and would purchase it again!.
I got this for my wedding shower. It’s heavy duty and looks beautiful with anything on it. I love everything about it except that I’ve only used it twice and one of the feet on the bottom came loose.
