20 Best Cross Bow For The Money (2023 Updated)

I have been using 125 Thunderheads for 25 years. I find them to be an excellent broadhead in terms of uniformity, blade sharpness, ease of assembly, arrow flight and of course game killing ability. My hunting partner uses Muzzy broadheads.

We both shoot heavy bows (75-80 pounds) and heavy arrows. My Thunderhead arrows almost always result in pass through shots. His Muzzy fixed head arrows generally do not. He has wondered aloud several times about this over the years as to why my arrows always go through game and that his don’t.

I have had one blade break in all these years but it was because the buck did a 180 while the arrow was in flight and it struck him in the bridge of the nose half way through his turn move. The broadhead still did penetrated several inches of nasal bone, skull and killed the buck.

I will never change broadheads. They may be an old design but they work really well. Why re-invent the wheel? These broadheads are the “Gold Standard” of fixed blade broadheads and still reasonably priced.

I recommend these broadheads to anyone that asks.

I first started shooting a 125 Grain Thunderhead in 1985 and have taken to many Whitetails to remember. I will admit I tried several broadheads within this time period only because I was influenced by advertising and the hype from manufactures at Sporting shows.

The mechanical heads I tried did not pernitrate like I had expected, and a fixed blade competitor head that looked very similar to the Thuderhead never was as sharp. Now in 2021 I am done trying to re-invent the wheel.

In my personal opinion this is by far the best broadhead on the market.

I have used the Thunderhead 125’s on my compound bows for 30+ years, and they have never failed me of come apart upon impact. Every deer that I’ve shot with them had fallen within 50 yards and they leave a massive blood trail.

They fly straight and punch through bone easily. I’ll be using them on my new crossbow this year.

I purchased my Ravin R-10 about a week ago and sighted it in today. After a few minor adjustments to the scope I started shooting using a rest at yardages of 20,40,50,70,80 and 100 yards. First the accuracy was insane and the arrow speed is just incredible.

While shooting, the arrows would hit the same hole on the target, even at 100 yards!!! Also read the owners manual and the sight in process was simple. Having never shot a crossbow before and following all of the safety guidelines in the owners manual the operation of the R-10 was safe and simple.

The quality is second to none. If you are looking for a crossbow, look no further than Ravin. Oh, an also, MADE IN THE USA.

Bought this bow for my son. The build quality is fantastic and he’s able to shoot it at his age (8) and can grow into it with the adjustable poundage. i bought this bow because his school system has an archery program and they use this bow.

The Genesis is particularly innovative because it’s not like a recurve that draws heavier with longer draw lengths, and not like a compound because the Genesis has no let-off. It stays the same draw weight from low to high draw lengths.

Making it very versatile for use my lots of different youth archers. It’s also far better than the cheaper novelty bows that look cool but can be frustrating to shoot with.

Got our kids bows for Xmas – a Genesis for the most interested and Bears for the mildly interested. There is hardly a comparison. If you can afford it, skip the cheapie stuff and just get one of these.

Its a real pleasure to use, the only caveats being: – its either RH or LH, so establish eye-dominance before buying; – its heavy for petite kids (3 lbs. ) – there is a Mini version (2lbs. ) which may be more appropriate.

– pull weight ranges 10-20 lbs. (The Mini 6-12 lbs. ) Other than that, get a full kit, a big ole target and get out there shooting! The kit includes an Allan key, a nice quiver and five arrows from Easton.

This is the original Genesis bow. It is perfect for teaching kids how to shoot. It is a good all around bow that kids and adults can use to shoot. This came as a kit with arrows and a quiver, just the things you need to get started.

I hunted with this sight last year. The bow tech couldn’t figure out how to adjust it left to right. I was unable to use the last two pins, as they wouldn’t move. Sitting in my bow case, the housing cracked.

I practiced from February to September, was still not shooting how I wanted to when I went hunting. My sight also came lose during the hunt, causing me to shoot a few inches low at 20 yards. I don’t know how that happened.

Problems aside, it did not ruin last year’s hunt. I still wound up with a great first deer with a bow buck. 4*7 non typical white tail. But because I was unable to move the final 2 pins, it cracked on the cover, chilling in my bow case, and how it mysteriously came lose, I have to give it a one star review.

It shouldn’t have these problems. Do not buy this sight.

This sight is easy to micro adjust each pin. Each pin is mounted to a threaded rod. Turning the rod will move the pin a precise amount. The reason for 4 stars and not 5 is that the two holes designed to mount the quiver were not threaded.

This was a manufactures error as I have seen others on the store shelf that were threaded. Somehow mine got through quality control and did not get threaded. I did not have time to send it back, and I have a tap and die set, so I treaded the holes myself.

Easy fix. Works great.

This is a great sight that sets up so easily. To have seven pins dialed-in out to 80 yards in a matter of minutes is so convenient (without having to mess with sight tapes). The React technology is great for a beginner or the experienced archer who wants mathematical precision to fit their personal set-up.

I used this sight on my last elk hunt – it was durable and maintained accuracy throughout the hunt. I would definitely recommend this sight without reservation!!.

I am a 4-H archery instructor. I our program we use the Genesis bows. The Standard size Genesis which weighs 3. 5 lbs with a draw weight of 20 lbs which is easily adjustable down to 10 lbs using only an allen wrench works very well for almost all youth as well as adults.

We have found that some very young beginning shooters have difficulty holding the bow up at arms length due to the weight or are unable to fully draw it back. For these shooters, the Mini Genesis with a weight of 2 lbs and a draw weight of 12 lbs adjustable down to 6 lbs helps them.

Both the standard and the mini genesis bows are high quality products. I consider the the Mini Genesis to be something of a specialty product intended for the beginner who is not quite ready for the Standard size.

The Standard has a slightly longer draw length and will serve the owner well for a lifetime. Both are compact, high quality, rugged products.

Purchased for my 6 year old daughter. Shoots well enough with the poundage turned down with the supplied arrows. However it’s frustrating on 3D targets because the arrows don’t stick. The solution is to cut down some super light carbon arrows.

Seems to shoot much faster now and the arrows stick much better. I’ve also added a whisker bisket rest to help keep the arrow in place. Makes shooting more fun I think. The trick is you need to add spacers to get the rest close enough to the riser.

Great bow. Light enough for a kid to hold and very easy to use.

These bows are of such quality they will last a lifetime with minimal care. Youth and adults alike can enjoy target archery with these as there is no set draw length and they are adjustable to accommodate different strength levels.

They are an excellent tool for teaching archery to beginners who can easily get a full draw and focus technique without straining themselves. **As with any bow, make sure you establish eye dominance before you buy one.

Just because your child is right handed dose not mean they are right eye dominant. An added bonus with these bows is that they tend to hold their value pretty good.

I injured myself on the job, in October of 2015. I now have very little use of my right hand, and I am right handed! I can no longer pull back my crossbow, so I ordered this device! my index finger is the only one that works decent, and my thumb has some use.

the other three fingers will not open fully, and I have very limited grip with my right hand! when I received my Barnet rope cocking device, I was able to pull the string back twice , once I read the instructions! I lost the one that was supplied with my x-bow in the woods so I picked up this one in the store ($2. 00 cheaper in the store than online price). It was much too long so I had to cut it down and tie a new knot, no big deal took less than two minutes, but I assume the long length is so it will be “Universal”.

The “rope” is thicker than the one I had, so it’s more durable, and the curve to the handles makes it more comfortable to use. Used it several times with no complaints at all. Going to grab another to keep in my pack in case I loose this one in the woods to.

I can’t imagine cocking a high draw weight x-bow without one. The rollers did squeak a little at first, but soon quit.

Very Good Value, Very Powerful Crossbow, Instructions for assembly and sighting in scope were very easy to followup. Others have complained of the scope being sub par, but I had no problem adjusting the focus and sighting the unit in.

A word of warning, make sure you have an adequate back stop. I use a Morrell target and the pile driver bolts easily blow right through. One bolt was offered up to the powers that be and probably will never be found again.

A secondary back stop solved that problem. You probably don’t want to shoot multiple bolts at the same target as you are likely to destroy any bolts that are already down range – yes it’s that accurate! I am sure that there are better crossbows out there, but you’ll have to spend two to three times the money.

I think that this is a great value.

I just bought this crossbow a few weeks ago. I took it hunting and bagged a big doe. so far, I love it. I read all the reviews, and one said it was loud. I’ve had several crossbows and this one was the quietest I’ve owed.

The bolt hitting the deer was a lot louder. complete pass through. broadhead buried in dirt and shaft broke off. That happens. It seems to be very good quality and made well. I don’t like scopes on my crossbows, so I used a burris fastfire 3.

I like to keep both eyes open while deer hunting. Only time will tell if this love affair lasts. The cocking crank works great, but you have to be careful about handle coming out. It is silent. If you are careful, you can use it to decock.

The carbon express line was discontinued, but I will get a Rocky mountain crossbow for my daughter. Again, I haven’t had it long enough to know if it will hold up, but I think it will.

Im delighted with this crossbow! I gave it a 4 star only because upon adjusting the stock the bolt broke through the composite molded cheek piece when I was tightening it. There should be reenforcement metal molded into the two mounting holed to prevent over tightening.

Obviously, it was my fault for being careless, but the reenforcement metal would help. Upon shooting this bow, I can only say WOW! Fast, hard hitting and accurate. It took 10 to 12 shots to get it dead on at 20 yards and then I made the mistake of shooting the same hole, busted the first bolt! This bow is a joy to shoot and it only takes a few shots to get the feel of the trigger pull.

Builds confidence very quickly! The crank cocking device is a little awkward at first, but after a couple on the job training sessions, its a breeze! The scope is adequate for 40 to 50 yard shots and holds its zero.

I love shooting reverse limb technology bows. I have the old Horton Vision and love that bow but wanted up to date technology so purchased Storm RDX. The trigger pull on the Storm is the greatest upgrade.

Can keep bow dead on nuts when squeezing off arrow without a rest. The brush arrow stabilizer is another great improvement. No more streak or scratch down the shafts of arrows. What I love about this bow is it feels just like shooting a rifle.

All the weight right down the center instead of being front heavy like a lot of crossbows. The trigger seals the deal. Nice little squeeze and arrow on way to bullseye. Only improvement I would incorporate to make crossbow better is to have arrow quiver arrangement towards the front like old Horton Vision.

If possible, I would like the cam pulley to be smaller in size. Always afraid when I put the bow over my shoulder with the sling, I won’t pay attention and whack the crossbow cam against the wall or something else.

Shooting wise, I would find it very difficult to find another crossbow that shoots as accurate with that amount of power. I get awesome penetration when shooting into target and after going through a deer and into the ground.

Easy to cock and load bow with either cocking device. Would be great if auto cocking device didn’t click but bow shoots so accurate won’t have to worry about reloading to shoot again.
