A composting toilet is a type of toilet that uses no water for flushing and instead relies on composting material to break down human waste. Composting toilets are often used in off-grid situations where there is no access to a water supply for flushing.
Instead, composting toilets use a variety of materials, such as sawdust, wood chips, or straw, to help break down human waste. The end result is a nutrient-rich compost that can be used to fertilize gardens or crops.

I really really wanted this to work. My husband I bought it for use while car-camping during Covid times. I had read previous reviews about the legs being hard to fold but I thought that knowing that in advance I could make it work by helping to fold the legs with a screwdriver or something.
My hands are strong, but I was not able to fold the legs without a finger getting pinched no matter how many times or how hard I tried to avoid that. And I’m talking big pinch. I understand that in order for a compact lightweight unit to have sturdy folding legs you have to allow for “working with the design”, but I just couldn’t make this work for me.
Also, when the toilet seat was folded open it just continued to fall back and fall off of the the rest of the toilet entirely. No way to fix that. This problem might be related to only the unit I received because I have not seen that reported as a problem in reviews I researched.
Otherwise, it seems like a well-designed unit, and like I said earlier, I really wished it didn’t have these flaws. It arrived as a delivery to my home and I will be returning it opened but unused, so no comments on its intended purpose.

I bought this portable toilet so that we could go places and not use a public restroom since most of them are closed due to Covid 19 restrictions. In the back of the minivan it works great. It’s very private back there if you back up to a building or some trees.
The product is durable, and very easy to clean, and I would buy it again but there are some improvements that would be nice. The two lock down handles that holds the clean tank to the dirty tank seem like they could be improved.
They have come apart on me but fortunately it didn’t fall far and the tanks are thick and durable. The sliding valve between the two tanks makes me a bit nervous because it doesn’t have a latch/lock position.
Seems like it could come open on me and cover me in stuff i don’t want on me, but it hasn’t. I did have that problem with a different issue that was my fault. I did not check the waste tank cap before the first use and the cap was not tight from the factory.
The cap is pretty awesome and i can get it super tight, in fact it gets so tight i cannot open it. I use a trick with a dish towel, roll it lengthwise and wrap it around the cap and use it as a wrench.
But maybe a bump or two molded into the cap would allow me more leverage. Overall it works great though. The kids (5-8yr old girls) are not all strong enough to push the flush plunger but I help them.
Contains the smells as well as you could expect if you use the chemical tablets. We really only use it for day trips for the 5 of us. But it has given us the freedom to get out and it’s well worth the price! I also bought a pop up tent to use as an outhouse but the back of the minivan is easier and doesn’t draw anyone’s attention.
This is the best thing I could have gotten for our camping trips aside from the tents. My kids made fun of me, ‘Oh mom, what’s the matter, can’t walk to the restrooms at the campsite?’. No, I do not want to walk through the trees in the complete dark to the restrooms.
Well, those nay sayers used my “Queen’s Throne” as I call it, regularly. All night long too. Especially convenient for the little ones (6 & 7 years old). I filled the top half with clean water upon arrival.
On the suggestion of a friend, I dropped one of the little waste dissolving pouches into the bottom with a large cup of water to ‘get it started’ & not have the ‘first use’ get stuck to the bottom so-to-speak.
There were 2 children & 2 adults who used this on a regular basis Friday night, Saturday when we were at the campsite & night & Sunday morning. It did not need emptying until we left Sunday mid-morning & there was still a good amount of clean water in the top half.
There was absolutely no odor at all!! I was very pleasantly surprised & pleased about this! Waste went cleanly down the opening & the ‘flusher’ rinsed everything all nice & clean. Disassembled, I will say that 5 gallon bottom ‘waste’ container is very, very heavy (well for me anyway), so my son had to get it into the car so I could take to the dump station.
Very easy to empty into the station disposal ‘opening’ (I VERY STRONGLY suggest having a pair of rubber gloves on hand lol). Not to be gross, but everything was ‘dissolved’ & there was not that horrendous odor you’d think there would be.
Those waste tablets that come with the unit work very well. Take the hose available at the dump station, rinse the bottom part out & done. I bought a small container of sanitizing hand wipes that I kept next to the unit so everyone could ‘wash’ their hands after use.
Going tent camping, pontoon boat for the day, etc. – this is the unit to have for convenient, sanitary, odorless ‘personal’ restroom convenience. Very, very highly recommend it. We will get a lot of use out of this.
Pictures are of the Queen’s Throne positioned in my tent & the $1. 99 wipes we used.
Includes Go Anywhere Portable Toilet, 6’6″ floorless privacy shelter, padded adjustable strapped backpack to store complete system with separate compartments for used and unused waste kits and 15 Go Anywhere waste kits.
Shelter can double as a shower room. System weighs 19 pounds.
Have built a more permanent base for the unit to be set up full time in a camper. No water means useable during winter hunting trips. Bagging the waste and disposing beats dumping a water based portable potty.
The success of the electric Excel Self-Contained Composting Toilet prompted Sun-Mar to design a three-chamber unit for off-grid living or those without a continuous 110-volt supply. The Excel Non-Electric has no fan or heater.
Odorless operation is achieved by a 4″ vent mounted at the top rear of the unit that acts like a chimney on a wood stove. For good air movement, the vent should be installed vertically and to 2-3 feet above the peak of the roof.
The optional 12-volt fan (available above) should be installed if you need to install the toilet with any bends in the vent. No more than two 45° bends are encouraged, even with the fan. The fan should also be used if the Excel Non-Electric is used residentially or in a location subject to downdraft.
The fan draws 1. 4 Watts and can be powered by a small solar panel and 12-volt battery. Evaporating capacity is variable, so the 1″ drain at the rear should be connected to an approved drain pit, container, or other facility.

IšverstiShow in original languageI am a disabled woman who has no upstairs bathroom. My husband bought this for me a few years ago to use in the middle of the night, & for emergencies. (I have multiple disabilities & medical problems, & am in a wheelchair 90% of the time) This portable toilet has been a LIFESAVER! It’s enabled me to have a bit more dignity, which can sometimes be difficult when you’re disabled.
Now, on to the toilet itself. The toilet is extremely sturdy, & has virtually no smell when the cover is on. Even though I do not use the toilet paper holder, (inside lid-bc condensation sometimes makes the tp a bit damp) it helps in keeping any odours or smells at bay.
It’s very easy to clean. just remove the lids & lift out the interior bucket. Just dump & clean. We don’t use chemicals, just dump every morning & clean with bleach & hot water. (& Dish soap as needed) it takes up very little room & is neatly hidden in my room.
My only two VERY MINOR issues with this toilet are that it sits a bit low for me, as I have medical issues, but that’s just for anyone using it who might be disabled. It makes it a bit harder sitting & standing.
So this isn’t important to most average users. (As it’s technically for camping) My second, VERY minor issue, is the seat itself is not quite as sturdy as the rest of the toilet, & if not sitting EXACTLY in place, it will warp slightly.
My seat has been like that now for over a year, but I’m still using it. It’s a very minor inconvenience, & still useable. (I just noticed you can add photos, & I will edit this review later, if possible, to add a photo of the seat.
) The bottom line is that this portable toilet has LITERALLY been a lifesaver. I would highly recommend this unit for anyone who camps, (it’s very light) & also for anyone who has medical issues, as an alternative to a bed pan, or climbing up & down stairs all night long if you have difficulties walking.
Because of its small size & it keeping any smells inside, it works/fits in a very small area. I will be purchasing a new one very soon, only because I’ve had this a few years now, using it daily. So for a camper, this would last MANY years.
Hoping this review helps others, especially other disabled people.

IšverstiShow in original languageThe way they made the legs lock into place makes it very sturdy, but also requires you to pull very hard on them and the sides in order to get it to close. One of the legs on mine snapped on the second use, and since there are only three legs, it was rendered useless.
Don’t waste your money on this. Go to Amazon and get a cheap folding one. They take up way less space and work better.
We’ve had this potty for a year now. It has made camping so much easier! With 3 young kids and a tent trailer, it’s a serious game changer. The kids have fun pumping for pressure, and the pull handle and flush button are easy for them to use.
It holds lots (we are usually good for a 3-night trip with it. Longer and sometimes we empty at the sewer station, which isn’t a big deal. ) The smell is contained very well too. Make sure to follow instructions and use the proper cleaners, treatments, and toilet paper.
I purchased this toilet to be a short term measure while I renovated my cottage bathroom After one or two uses the slide came out of its track and could not be repositioned. This caused odor and when the tank was carried by its handle for emptying it would leak sewage everywhere.
I did not keep my receipt and to be honest even if I had I would not carry a used smelly toilet back to the vendor for refund. I’m sure this last fact allows for unethical quality in manufacturing to go unchecked.
Thetfords 4. 0-gallon freshwater porta-potti features 3. 2-gallon waste tank capacities. Cleverly designed for a more modern appearance, the portable toilet allows approximately 33 flushes between fill-ups.

The toilet has a 325 lbs weight capacity. Dimensions 16. 5 X 16 x 17 and 12lbs.
Have used this portable toilet a couple times now. Contains smell very well when closed and very easy to empty. The plunger makes it much easier to control the water speed and volume when flushing. After using the accordion pump style flush in the past and now the plunger style flush, I’ll never purchase the accordion style.
I highly recommend this portable toilet for anyone looking to get one for camping, off-roading, or emergencies. I’m impressed with the size and heavyweight plastic used for this portable toilet.
Excellent product. It was an upgrade to an old portable toilet we got when we bought our camper 10 years ago. Definitely recommended. And the price was $30 less than a local camping supply store that didn’t even have it in stock.
A two tank portable toilet. Top mounted water port for convenient in-vessel refill. Completely self-contained. Light, compact, gas-tight. Made of high density polyethylene. Includes stainless steel hold down brackets.

this is a really great camping toilet to have. It is truly sturdy and practical for use and storage. In stead of using our build in toilet in the RV, we using this one when camping off grit. It is much easier to do it this way.
With a bit of the appropriate chemicals for this toilet to prevent odor it works for as much 5 days without empty it. It is really convenient and easy to poor out into a public toilet such as Freeway, Parks and other Campgrounds while a sturdy build handle is on it to make it all the more easier to carry.
I am really happy about this toilet as it serves well as a bed side commode during sick days while not able to walk to the bathroom. It flushes powerful and leaves the bowl clean. I am very pleased to have this convenient camping toilet the best of it’s kind.
I purchased this for when I take out the small popup camping as opposed to our large travel trailer. Combined with a popup, 2 room shower tent, this camping potty provided me with a convenient and private bathroom.
It’s easy to use. No real setup. It’s easy to dump and clean. 5 gallons goes a long way for a single person. It allowed me to plan to dump once daily. A word of advice, use liquid tank treatment after each dump.
I purchased an 8 pack of small bottles. Using half a bottle each time with a quart of water not only reduces odors, but also makes it easier to clean and will help maintain the tank.
Ok, It’s a Crappy job, but somebody has to leave a review. Works as designed and worth it, to keep you out of strange funky bathrooms. Not too heavy to tote to trunk or campsite. Easy to clean. After dumping, use garden hose and some soap it’s like new.
A composting toilet is a great option for an off grid toilet because it is environmentally friendly and does not require any water to flush. The waste is broken down by bacteria and turned into compost that can be used as fertilizer.
There are many different designs of composting toilets, so it is important to do some research to find the one that will work best for your needs.
