20 Best Bike Shoes For Triathlon (2023 Updated)

I really wanted BOA shoes at the time but the fit on these was superior to stuff costing twice as much, slightly wider than everything else so I wasn’t getting sore toes. They take abuse extremely well and have had repeated drops (and a bike drop), scuffs and stamps from flying mounts/dismounts, I’d probably buy them again if it wasn’t for needing something easier to undo on the move.

They clean easy too as I often have them coated in mix/gel spillage, wipe with a sponge. Come to think of it the velcro I’d have expected to wear out a bit by now is still secure as can be. Paired with Look Keo classics, bolt lugs secure as ever.

I’ve yet to really wear these in anger but my first impressions are pretty positive. I’m a bog standard UK size 10 and find that EUR size 45 fits me perfectly – I have another pair of Shimano shoes and a pair of NorthWave, that are both size 45 and perfect fits.

They are however MTB shoes. This is my first pair of road shoes and whilst they fit fine in terms of length, and will fasten, they do seem slightly narrow. I appreciate that road shoes may well be more sleak than MTBs anyway, and that they might just feel odd to begin with.

The shoes have a good sole, which is pretty stiff and certainly good enough for general riding. I don’t really need a pair of high performance shoes, but I’ll still go for the best quality for what I need.

I’m a fan of Shimano shoes and that’s why I’ve got these.

These are my first cycling shoes and honestly I didn’t expect them to be comfortable. It’s uncomfortable to ride with cleats for a first few days. On my first 200km ride I fell thrice as I forgot I had cleats on but by my next 300 km ride I got the hang of it and these shoes performed superbly in the entire 300 km of wet weather.

After so much of rough use, didn’t find a scratch on them and they appear as good as new after the first wash. Happy I went with the Navy color as it looks suttle yet stands out of the black ones.

I’ve not really got any issues with the fit or the look and they’re not uncomfortable, but my god they’re noisy. On a climb all I can hear are my shoes squeaking. I’m now looking back at my older shoes wondering why they didn’t squeak and it’s down to materials.

The uppers are entirely made of plastic, the outer, the tongue and the lacing system and they rub and squeak. I’ve reverted to an older pair of Empires as they’re driving me mad. That’ll teach me to go mid-range.

I can only give these a 2 star because they are far too narrow even though I picked a half size bigger than recommended by size guide, I thought the material might give a bit after a few wears but they continue to cut my circulation off to my little toes.

Otherwise the quality is of a good standard, they are just too narrow for average to wide size feet so definitely size up if considering on purchasing !! Dont make the same mistake as me, wear for at least 30 minutes around the house if possible before trying on your bike, I am now stuck with an expensive pair of spin shoes that I can not use without causing damage to my toes.

A really comfortable, good looking shoe at a fair price. I swapped the insoles for some better ones, having read that the originals weren’t really up to much. Once I’d found a pair that properly fit the shape of the shoe I stopped noticing them on rides, which is what I was looking for all along.

Would’ve been 5 stars if the original insoles had been better.

These are good shoes. They fit well, nice color, but the soles are made out of some kind of hard plastic that was so slick, even though it has tread, I almost slipped on my hardwood floor just trying them on in my own living room.

I would absolutely hesitate to get off the trail, commute around to a grocery store, and walk in the aisle. Because there simply is no traction on these soles.

Cycling shoe sizes are NOT standardized across all brands, so be thorough on researching customer comments. I wear an 8 in US women’s casual & dress shoes. But not in cycling shoes because all brands use a different standard, which is inconsistent.

But these Garneau women’s shoes in 40Eu = 8 in US casual shoes. The toe box is ample but well fitting. Previously I bought GIRO 40 Eu said to be equal to an 8. 5 US women. They felt fine until my toenails became in grown though they had barely grown.

Actually these were size 7. 5 US ! I was stuck with the shoes- live & learn. So according to previous buyers 40 Eu =8 US. Glad I bought the correct size & got this bargain! I do not use these as clipless , I use with flat pedal innovation with spikes.

I was concerned my shoes would grab the soikes well but they grab better than my GIRO flat bottomed cycling shoes. The color of the shoes is more purple than pink as it looks online but I like them! They are comfortable, quick to step in & tighten.

Glad I made a good choice of shies this time! Did a quick 37 mi first time on , no blusters, rubs or instability!!!.

Now that I’ve used these shoes a few weeks, here’s my experience. I am a frequent but casual rider. I am a M 9. 5, 43, and these shoes are true to size for me. They are comfortable and stiff, and the bottom sole rubber lugs protrude enough that the clears don’t click in the grocery store.

(among other rides, I went shopping for a couple items, twice. ).

With my previous shoes I thought I will never be able to succeed in T1 transition with getting shoes on while on the bike. These shoes are so easy to pull on and tighten while on the bike. Comfortable and great quality.

I would order 1 size up from your normal shoe size.

Bought these to replace old Shimano tri shoes that had lasted 10 yrs! Super comfortable. Am doing IM Lanza on 2021 – was planning on using road shoes but these are so comfortable will prob use these instead.

Only reason why not 5 stars is I am still not convinced by electric blue colour!.

SIZE SELECTION – EURO 43. Typically I am a 43 and these fit perfect. I do have fairly widish feet but the fore foot area has plenty of room. ***My road shoes are SIDI Wire 2 Carbon Air which were ordered a 1/2 size up (43.

5) as recommended by SIDI, these also are a very good fit. Then there was much debate what size to order the T5 Air however I settled on 43 thinking that the style of the upper shoe which is quite open and adjustable by the velcro straps plus I will not be wearing socks.

The size choice was correct QUALITY – Solid shoes that will last a long time COMFORT – The inside lining delivers comfort with bare feet. Nothing irritating using these over a 90K TT PERFORMANCE – Nice and light shoe with good power delivery.

Easy to get your feet in and out during transition. Velcro straps work well. Heel support is adequate SUMMARY – Worth the cost.

Construction is suspect for a $250 plus carbon shoe, the buckle pulled out after just a couple races and the warranty department at Sidi wants nothing to do with you.

Comfortable and light. Fits true to size. Great for speedy transitions.

I’ve owned these shoes for 4 years now and have ridden them for all my riding, not just triathlons. And they’re still in amazing shape even through everything I’ve put them through. I see there is review saying the strap doesn’t come off and its hard for people to get their foot in.

The strap doesn’t come off because during a triathlon race that would be very annoying as it could potentially be wasted time in transition. So I think they are a great tri shoe. For the price, cant go wrong and I will purchase again.

They are a narrow shoe. I will say the sizing is off. you do need to size up a couple of sizes.

Purchased a 39, which is a half size too big for my 7. 5 or 38. 5 size feet, definitely fit like a 38 or even 37. 5. I liked that the shoe is narrow and for slim feet. It was a bit of a struggle to get them on, once on, I liked that they felt snug around the arch.

I imagine these will be difficult to fit in if you have an average arch or high arch, I run low and lean and I struggled to get into them. Returning without using them.

41.5 cm is perfect for me. My Sidi was also 41.5. Great price! Love the Boa design, my first. Will move the cleats over soon and takes some time to break in the shoe. Hopefully it can replace my Sidi…

Fits true to size. Nice firm outsole. Comfortable shoe. No tongue for the shoe so may have some chaffing at the top of feet. Good price for a quality product

having ,not been on the saddle for a few years and getting back into it with triathlon, i’m very happy with the shoes 4 weeks into training. comfortable and good quality – no troubleshooting required.

Shoes are really light and a reasonably comfy fit ( a wide fitting would suit me a little better but the toe box strap can be loosened) I’m getting used to new rear strap orientation but haven’t tried it at race pace.

Will be a great summer shoe. Pushys service and communication was excellent.

Bought these with high expectations, tried them on around the house and the fit appeared to be ok. However, went out for a long ride and started to experience pain where the boa is located at around 40miles that just got worse and worse.

Couldn’t wait to get them off. IMO poor design to have the boa located where it is.

Excellent service from Sigmasport, super quick delivery to mainland Scotland. Shoes are so nice and so comfy, they have quite a lot of ventilation. I was a bit doubtful of which size to go for and I ended up going for EU43.

5 280mm which they fit perfect. For reference only my both feet measure 275mm length, 100mm wide one and 102mm the other. I also have a pair of Giro Empires size UK9. 5 EU44 US10. 5 CM28 and I would say they fit pretty much the same.

I hope this may help someone that is also doubtful about sizing.

I was looking for a lot of different shoes but in my size almost all of them are narrow, the normal RC3 as well. Very rare to find a wide version in the low budget segment of shoes. The RC3 wide not as wide as I thought but more convenient than the normal RC3 (I’ve tried it before in a shop).

Have to take into account what kind of socks do you wear with it, thinner are recommended. The shoes need to be chosen one size bigger as you usually wear in the normal life. I have EUR 41 size but the right choice is 42.

Otherwise it is a good quality item with great ventilation and boa fastening. And I found it in the best price here.

These are a well made good quality shoe. I dropped a star for their narrow fitting. I normally buy a 44 whenever I buy shoes. I bought “44 wide” in this shoe and did not go one size up as many do. The length of the shoe is fine and a size up would be the wrong length and mess up my cleat position.

I would say even the wide version felt fitting and I can’t imagine how tight the normal 44 would have been. I think the toe area could be more generous and is only just acceptable. The range of cleat position adjustment is really useful.

This is the first time I bought a shoe with BOA lacing. The BOA lace system works great and provide just enough slack to get your fit in (thick socks could be a challenge). I was worried that the laces may eventually break (however they are strong), but looking on the BOA website you can purchase replacements anyway should the worst happen (for peace of mind).

They are light and well made, good looking and a snug fit even in wide version (which I would recommend). I am happy to have these and more colour options in wider fits would be even better.

Just arrived from UPS and dropped off to me!!! Got my exacto knife out and opened the box and gave the shoe a look over! Checked the size of the shoe to make sure it’s the right size according to my foot measurement using a (Ritz Shoe Stik)!! I ordered a Shimano Entry Level Road Bike Shoes, US Men’s 7.

5W and it is True to Size!! Just installed a new set of cleats, adjusted them accordingly and clipped into my bike to see how the fit actually is and it is an Excellent Fit!! Shoes are a snug fit, BOA dial works great, Holds the shoe to my foot pretty good, also like the Cleat mounting area as it makes for mounting Shimano cleats very easy!.

I really love these shoes. I teach regular cycle and also cycle & strength/cycle bootcamp style classes, and these are the best cycle shoes that I could have gotten. They make it very easy to attach the cleats, very easy to slip on, the fit is adjustable and comfortable, the shoe is sturdy and well-made, and I have a much better ride and workout than I did compared to just wearing tennis shoes.

If you are looking for great cycle shoes and/or great cycle cleated shoes that can be worn for versatile cycle classes, then these are it. I really appreciate being able to get off the bike and walk around to grab water, get a sweat towel, and do strength workouts combined with cycle training with ease.

I also feel that I am getting a better workout on the bike. They allow for better foot placement and focus through my legs. I am just a happy customer. I look forward to trying the new outdoor cycle shoes in the future!.

Purchased a pair of these shoes for my wife for Christmas. She had previously read through reviews and decided that these spin shoes were what she wanted. On the website it suggests sizing a half size down from your regular shoe size (she wears a size 6 in practically everything and has a very normal, somewhat narrow foot) so we went with 5.

5 sizing. Upon receiving them she tried them on and they ended up being incredibly tight and uncomfortable at the point they would be unwearable. You would think it’s not the biggest deal to get the sizing wrong EXCEPT for the fact that they charge $75 USD for shipping and duties (at the time was about $95 CAD) which is non-refundable and they make you pay for return shipping (cost was about $27 CAD with Canada Post) bringing it to $122 CAD just to try on a pair of shoes that wouldn’t fit based on their websites recommendation.

My wife really likes the look of the shoe and wants to re-order in a size 6 but is extremely hesitant as if those don’t fit, being out another $120 CAD ($240 CAD total) to return them once more with nothing to show for it isn’t the most appetizing scenario.

It is what it is and it is clearly stated on the website, but just wanted my fellow international buyers to know the cost of the risk of them not fitting properly (even according to how they should fit on the website).

I’ve never had spin shoes that I loved. They have only been just a thing I needed to perform better and have better control in spin classes. However, these are next level!!! It was worth the splurge $! And this color is super fun.

I have pretty average feet (not narrow, not wide). These don’t make my feet fall asleep like some other brands I’ve used in the past. I wear a size 9 in my regular shoes and the size 9 fit perfect. I was a little concerned about clipping in because the cleats don’t protrude like my other spin shoes but it was no problem on my bike at home and at the spin studio.

For the first season of biking, these seemed great, and then they stopped working for me down despite having less than 500 miles on them. I get insane hot spots to the point where I cannot ride for longer than 20 minutes without having to get off my bike and shake out my feet.

I think it is because of how narrow they are and my high instep (the top of my foot). I would “tighten” these as little as possible on the top velcro strap and my toes would still go numb and I would still get hot spots on the cleats.

Not sure why they were more or less fine for the first year and now aren’t working for me. I really liked the look of the shoes.

These were the first cycling shoes that I bought. The fit was good and the velcro tabs held my foot in place well and made for easy, on the fly adjustments. However, the rubber on the heel peeled away from the shoe quickly in both the front and back.

I don’t think that this was from my use as I only walked on them about 20 feet from the door to the road before hopping on my bike.

I’ve never been accused of having wide feet. I’ve never bought wide shoes. I often find the toe box of shoes to be more spacious than I ever need. These are still a bit narrow. The sizing is a bit weird.

I have european sized dress shoes and the equivalents for Fizik EU to US is wacky. I wear a size 12 US and the 46 is like 12. 23. Some fraction that isn’t a thing in US shoes that I’ve ever seen. Like some sites reviews of the shoes have said the material is like a denser trucker cap back.

I figured I’d really feel all the air through my feet and even with some thinner cycling socks it doesn’t feel that breezey. This was a key factor in buying these over the Vento Infinito Knit Carbon 2 as what reviews I could find said these were the most breathable and breezey shoes.

I live in CA where during the summer most of my rides are in the 90 to 115 degree range for 5 or so months of the year. The soles are stiff. Not sure how stiff compared to others as I have only tried one other pair that didn’t work out.

The velcro is easy to take on and off. The 3 hole slots go back fairly far. Apparently in reading reviews in the past Fizik shoes did not go as far back towards the heel as people would like. But it goes back far enough for me that I think I might need to move them towards the toe a bit.

Bought these last winter for use in the spring. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to get on with them. I’m UK size 8 and bought the 42. Length wise, perfect, but too tight in the toe box. I wanted to use different footbeds for arch support, but there was no chance, and even with the supplied footbed I lose feeling in my toes even on short rides with the strap pretty much undone.

For info, my feet are are approx 10. 5 cm wide. I also find the holes for cleat position further forward than I would like. It’s a shame, as they feel well made and were good value; I can’t comment on power transfer as my toes have been numb.

These are the newest iterations of Bont’s Vaypor S. Nothing has really changed since the last model except these come with the BOA Li2 dials, which i can say work very well. Bont’s work well for some and not so well for others.

If you find they work well with your feet, they are amazing. Make sure to use Bont’s sizing guide available on their website before ordering. My pair ended up being a little too narrow for me but they do offer a wide version which i will most likely pull the trigger on.

The soles are incredibly stiff. like no give at all. The heat moulding is straight forward and after a couple of rounds in the oven, youll find the configuration that works best for you.

Since switching to barefoot shoes my feet have returned to their natural wide shape and my cycling shoes became way too uncomfortable. Searching around these looked like some of the best high performance road shoes catering to wide feet and they certainly don’t disappoint.

Regarding sizing I measured carefully and followed the guidance and actually went 2x half sizes up, this still wasn’t enough. Definitely measure carefully and go at least half or a whole size up. One very hassle free return and reorder later and 1.

5 sizes bigger than the sizing guide suggested, these are the perfect fit. Loads of width in the to box and forefoot to accommodate wide feet but still able to achieve a really snug fit using the twin boas and having heat moulded to tighten the heel cup slightly.

Finish quality is fantastic, they might be on the pricey side but they feel worth it. Really low profile styling and great ventilation for summer and indoor rides. The shoes are also incredibly light and stiff, with a really direct feel through the pedals.

I was expecting something very moldable like the italian brand technica boots,for 400 dollars— I hardly notice any change at 160F. I called and Bont said its only a slight change. then they’ve worn very quickly! After only 2000 mile the the heal and vent cover pieces have fallen off.

The bolt holding the heal is plain steel and has rusted in place and now needs to be drilled out. I guess bont didn’t count on sweet, or real interest in moldability. I think I’ll try Lake when I give up on these.

After wearing another brand’s slightly too large road shoes for a season (43. 5), I decided to go down one euro size to a 43. I normally wear a 10 in street and running shoes. The shoes are snug but not tight with a snug fit in the heel, which I like.

I have narrow heels and most of the cycling shoes I’ve tried are loose in the heels. I’ve been struggling with hotspots and some numbness on 50 + mile rides in the older shoes but, so far, in the Torch 3.

0, my feet have been comfortable. The adjustability of the shoes with the dual Boa closure is great for fine-tuning while in the saddle, dialing in either direction to tighten or loosen – not the usual pull-out to release the Boa closure.

I’m going to keep fiddling with arch support and wedges under the forefoot to maximize comfort, but so far these are the best fitting, best-featured shoes for the cost I’ve found. I average about 100 to 120 miles per week with 3-4 rides and don’t compete but like to go fast and train hard.

I don’t normally write reviews, but I felt compelled to on this one- the BOA is great- but the “strings” only last about 1 year- I have had my shoes for two years, and the strings have broken right at the 12-month mark both year.

It is a huge PITA to get the correct replacement parts for the BOAs- I had two pairs of torches, long story short, and I just swapped the BOAs the first time they broke. The wizard on BOAfit’s website does not give you the correct replacement parts, and you can’t buy the correct parts separately.

My last pair of Specialized shoes lasted 11 years of near daily riding- the straps never broke- they fit well, and they worked. These shoes are not only seemingly lower quality, but the BOA thing is a huge drawback.

Technically it’s great.

My third NW tribute SPD shoes. Good look and good quality. but the midfoot velcro design is not good. The midfoot velcro is too long and very easy to interfer with crank.

Shoe is great. Arrived in one piece. Quality looks good. Carbon sole and similar design to BONT but more comfortable when first wear it. Size is one size bigger than my normal size 44. Will try and get one size smaller next time.

Very comfortable shoes, nicely made. Quick to put on and take off – that was it. The parcel arrived after a few days, I had a preview in the ups system the whole time. I recommend 🙂

I was looking for this particular shoe everywhere with no luck finding my size in black color. Until I found Mike’s bikes. Not only the shoes I wanted but also very fast delivery. I will be ready with new comfortable shoes on my 6 days touring trip in Oregon.

Got it in less than 3 weeks (Netherlands-Canada) and I thought it will be small on me (size 7 women) and so excited it fits well with a bit of a room for warm rides…The color is not pink more of a light berry…definitely recommended for women who are looking for a cute colored MTB shoes.

Overall, – pushys offer a reasonable price & service. not great, but, certainly not bad. Their return policy is below average. I bought my usual size across all brands, but, with pushys, the size indicator was inaccurate.

No biggie, except that I had to foot the $20. 00 bill for return postage, through no fault of my own. thus making what was a reasonable price an expensive one. yet, not my misdemeanour. Not particularly happy.

Maybe limit purchases from pushys to items without size. like, lights, bartape etc.

I have been using the Surge shoe for the past few years and must say it one of my favorite in my arsenal of footwear. whether it be a long day in the saddle, or a short and sweet pain cave Crit, this shoe has held up exponentially well.

even post crash in a Crit race i have continued to ride and race in these shoes with no loss of stiffness for power transfer, or loss of comfort. I’ve never had major issued with hot-spots on my feet either which is a major plus.

the most important factor of all though is the fact that it just Looks So Good!.

I have have worn giant shoes in the past and have had issues with stiffness… The new Surge Pro is mind blowing! Super Comfortable and Super Stiff! A must try! I had to have all three colors!

I have had these shoes for about 1 1/2 years and have decided to voice my opinion. I love the looks, fit and function of these shoes, but one thing is driving me nuts, they have a HORRIBLE squeak. That’s right, they squeak! When I apply any amount of hard power they squeak.

I have gone through every possible thing on my bike, seat, seat post, peddles, bottom bracket, all check out fine. I went back to my old shoes, and no more squeaks. I believe it is the mesh of like materials on the tongue and body of the shoes.

I have tried putting baby powder and other things on the tongue, but it only works for a short time and the squeak is back. I know it is too late to get a refund or return, but I feel it necessary to let my frustration out.

Unlike the majority of the Kershaw assisted openers this blur along with the two other Blurs I have played with – open powerfully and fast. They are equal to and not the least of any other knife I have tested for power and speed of opening.

Like 99% of assisted opening knives I have played with extensively, they end up with alittle side to side blade wobble and if they dont loosen up themselves I loosed them up in the slightest way to make opening as fast as possible.

Remoil or any other Teflon spray lube is my choice of operational adjuvant. As far as the blade steel 14C28N goes, I quote “. designed by Sandvik at Kershaw’s behest to have the edge properties of 13C26 but with increased corrosion resistance.

“. The properties of 12C26 are “Also known as a Swedish stainless razor steel. Generally the same properties as Sandvik 12C27, but with slightly higher hardness but less corrosion resistance. “. I am a collector and I only carry, play and figit with them, I’m not a user who cuts or hacks away with them.

In some cases, after spending $100’s of dollars on a knife I’m not about to put them to the hard use test so, as far my figget test goes the blur is at the top of the speed opening list. As far as Kershaw goes they are in the broad and expansive middle of the pack for fit and finish.

I have many Kershaws and nave 3 of these Blurs.

Great cycling shoes. The Solstice and Espresso shoes are definitely on the narrow side so I’d reccomend going up a size for a better fit if you don’t have narrow feet to match the shoes. I had to buy a size 13 locally after trying these (i usuraly wear 11s).

They are slightly too long for my friend (~size 9) but he’s able to use them fine despite a little excess toe room. As for how they perform, they’re stiff enough that I don’t notice a power decrease after having moved from Look Delta road cleats.

They walk silent as long as you’re not walking on concrete (spd cleats seem to crush rocks/debris). They are also easier to clip in to the pedals with than 3 bolt cleats. Just a word of warning though, dont use them in the rain if you dont want them squeaking up a storm afterwards.

And if you can’t help it, rubbing fabric softener dryer sheets on the tongues of the shoes (or whatever’s rubbing) helps silent them after the shoes dry (perhaps it’s the wax in the sheets).
