20 Best Bike Saddles For Men (2023 Updated)

This saddle is a gift to my tush. I discovered it on accident looking through handlebar grips, lucky find. I never again have to think of potential soreness, not even on long 60+ mile rides. Never been a fan of the feel of padded shorts, and I am so glad I kept trying different saddles.

It’s pricey, and you probably won’t miss it for short rides to the grocery store. But if you like to spend quality time with your bike. this saddle is for you. I only have tried this one model, but likely the others in the Ergon line are just as nice.

I have more than one bike and each of them now have one of these saddles. After the first purchase, I kept telling myself that I can always just move it between bikes but let’s be real, I would only ride the bike that did not need tool intervention to get out the door.

I purchased this saddle for my wife for use with her new lightweight e-bike, and she’s very happy with it. Her bike is a hybrid with a flat bar, and initially I set up the seat with a level nose. She felt like she was sliding forward, so I pitched the nose up 3-4 degrees and she now feels very comfortable.

We went for a 17 mile ride today and she wore normal clothes, no padding, and had no discomfort at all. This seat is a winner! BTW, I measured her sit bone width before ordering to make sure she got the right size.

Ergon can use sit bone width in their sizing calculator, and YouTube has plenty of how-to videos.

I was having ,saddle sores on my Brompton’s default saddle and was on the look out for a replacement saddle. Came across Ergon ST Core Evo and was intrigued by the use of BASF Infinergy as I’m a fan of Adidas’ ‘Boost’.

Decided to give this saddle a try and it did not disappoint. Had been riding with this saddle for several hundred kilometres and no more saddle sores. The BASF Infinergy material also helps to dampen any road bumps which makes my rides more comfortable and enjoyable.

Highly recommended.

I’ve wanted to be part of the cool Brooks team for awhile now and finally decided to give this one a try, especially since it’s supposedly ready to ride with little to no break-in compared to its leather counterparts and weather-proof which is great for the damp PNW Winters.

Take my review as you will as saddles are a very personal experience. I’m speaking only of my own experience, preference, and anatomy. To give some context, I tested it for a few weeks on my daily 12 mile commute without padded shorts as I was looking for a comfortable enough seat that I wouldn’t need to wear padded shorts to ride for this shorter distance.

I ride an ’80s Schwinn road bike as my commuter with bull horn handlebars (to give you a sense of my body positioning). Here’s the scoop: The cut out is great! That’s often the first thing I look for.

The bigger the better, and this one is totally adequate. However, I tried to reposition the saddle and my body in various angles, forward, back and everything in between to make this work, but man, my sit bones were screaming.

It was just too hard for me. I’ve researched the heck out of saddles by now and I know that more padding isn’t better necessarily, but I need a little something. By the third day of each week’s commute, it was hard to sit on the saddle at all.

I was pretty bummed because it is so well-made and looks so good! It’s just not for me, but it might be for you!.

I purchased this saddle as a more weather resistant version of the the leather B17. I have ridden a bazillion miles on B17’s and love them. By far the most comfortable saddle I have ridden on. The Cambium certainly looks like a Brooks–it does have a very different feel though.

It’s a very solid platform. I expected it to break in a bit over time but that really did not happen, it’s stiff as a board 3 years later. This is fine on most rides, but on the first long ride I did the discomfort began to set in at hour 6.

By hour 10 I could barely sit on it without wincing. Everybody will have a different reaction, but for me, it is a great saddle for most rides, and not very comfortable on long rides. It is also great for crap weather.

Pouring rain does not faze the saddle in the least.

I have always been a big fan of the SDG Bel-Air from the launch of the original saddle, they have always been a great saddle for all day riding but I find the rear rise and the shorter length of the 3.

0 compromises this a little which is reflected in my 3 star score, it really should have been a 4-5! With the seat in a neutral flat position, the rear rise pushes your weight to the Bars, tilting the saddle back eases this and I can imagine it would help you transition off the back of the saddle for the steep descents if you do note have a dropper post, you may need one if you opt for this saddle with it’s level of rear rise.

I must note that the saddle is engineered really well and if you are looking for ascents of color, the options are great!.

My go to saddle has always been the WTB Volt. Thought I would try the BelAir v3 on the basis of reviews and I’m not dissapointed. It’s a little firmer than the volt but it’s light, decently priced, and seems to holding up really well.

Would not hesitate to recommend.

I decided on ISM for the bike on my indoor trainer where I seem to experience more saddle issues (numbness) than on the road (not sure why). Initially I tried the PN 3. 0 and it was very hard and uncomfortable – no way could I get used to it.

So opted for the PL 1. 1. This is much better, softer and more comfortable than the PN; no numbness issues at all in several weeks now. That problem does seem to go away with ISM but it is still pretty sore on my sit-bones.

All that weight off the soft tissues has to go somewhere (as ISM say) but it goes on the bones and after 90 minutes I have had eneough. I will stick with this for indoor turbo sessions but I would not risk it on the road over longer periods.

ISM is also quite difficult to fit – to get the advised set back (5-8cm) it fixes to the seat post right on the very front of the rails. If the saddle is fitted any further forward at all it is too far forward and the whole point of the design is lost.

I started zwifting more lately and my saddle was making me numb after an hour so I done some research and found people had found the ISM saddles to be better in regards to numbness so I purchased the ISM PL 1.

1. Before putting the saddle on the bike I measured everything for my previous saddle for a guide and set the new saddle up to my measurements taking into account the recommended adjustments for the ism setup, I tested the saddle with an hours ride and found it uncomfortable so I made some more tweaks to the position and tested again with another hour ride, it felt a bit better but still not right so I made some more adjustments and boom perfect, can’t believe the difference in comfort 2-3hour rides indoors with no probs love it.

I did see in a previous review someone saying the saddle slides on the rails a bit and yes I found mine does too but by maybe 2-3mm movement but I’m sure I could address that if it bothered me and also the white was the only instock option when I purchased and as bike is white it looks great but it will mark up very easy if not careful only 4star review for rail thing mostly.

I like the simple design of the r3 and have always found it comfy (or about as comfy as a bike saddle can be). I’ve tried experimenting with short nose saddles in the past but never seemed to be able to get them in the right spot since I change position as I ride quite alot.

I now have an antares on all my bikes so that says alot. Wouldn’t mind trying the one with a cutout in the future as I do occasionally get some numbness during long sessions on the turbo, but I’m talking a couple of times a year.

After 3 years off my bike, I returned to cycling. I had used a Fizik Arione for years and loved it. However when I got back on my bike I decided I needed something a bit more forgiving. The Antares fits the bill.

Its slightly wider and hence a little more supportive. Really light and very comfortable. As with all saddles fit is an individual thing, but this really works for me!.

The 3 slashes on each side have very sharp edges and are in the area of thigh movement hence the wing flex feature, but the sharp edge friction prematurely wears out bid shorts. A new pair of rapha bibs looked worn out after 100miles.

Then one of the rails developed a loud squeak at the rear entry point to the shell. I Returned it to sigma almost 3 weeks ago and after requesting some information have be told it’s been sent to fizik for inspection meanwhile I have no seat and no refund to replace, not really a good experience.

This seat is relatively comfortable, although the shape of the upper contour (for each cheek) is not perfect for bony bottoms…

I wanted a good bike seat that would last, and that would provide adequate cushioning on the road. This seat is made from a durable material and is nice and densely cushioned to provide comfort on the road.

There is also a relief through the centre to reduce pressure on the groin area. Overall, it’s working out great!.

This seat is still quite firm, but because of the slight up angle on the back, it hits my butt in the right area so as not to cause pain to other sensitive womanly areas. My butt is still a bit sore on the seat while riding when going longer distances, but it is not sore afterwards.

The long hole in the middle is also a big positive. I’d say it is worth the money and an upgrade from my old seat, but can’t say it’s 5/5 comfort.

I purchased another brand of saddle that was highly reviewed and more specifically engineered for mountain biking. I loved the look and the lines of the other saddle, and really wanted to love how it felt.

Unfortunately, it just didn’t feel right. I was browsing my local REI and saw this Bontrager Sport. It looked wider than I wanted and didn’t have that “high end/high performance” look, but wow. I put it on my mountain bike and it feels great.

It has nice cushioning to reduce a little of the jarring feeling going over roots and bumps, but isn’t so soft that it feels unstable. It’s a little wider than I wanted, but that wideness makes it feel really great.

Even though my sit bones are around 105mm, I still find I like this Bontrager saddle more than the “other” brand saddle that I really wanted to like!.

I picked this up back in 2019 and its worked out great for me. Originally my bike came with the Bontrager Arvada saddle and it was really uncomfortable for me with groin pain and sit bone pain. Now the saddle is wide enough to support my sit bones and relieving pressure I had from the Arvada saddle and my rides have been more enjoyable.

Other Details: I ride about 4-24 miles a week OR 3-4 times a week.

if you can’t sit on those narrow sit bone saddles with cut outs anymore, maybe due to age related issues or medical problems, this saddle may save your cycling passion. it did mine. Thru the years just got to the point where I could not ride 40-50 miles anymore on a narrow saddle that put you on a hard surface on your sit bones.

This saddle solves all those issues. Get it adjusted properly, and you don’t need a cut out due to how the top is sculptured. I’m back to doing 125-150 mile weeks with back to back days sometimes. No pain!.

This seat is like a Lazy Boy and a Porsche had a kid! I Do 15 to 20 mile rides daily and have forgotten what being sore feels like. This seat was a replacement for a very,very small athletic seat. The seat suspension doesn’t move on a suspension bike and the shape is very athletic but with perfect plushness.

I rode an Arione classic for many years till I tried cutaway saddles with I think relief pressure on the private parts mode to my liking. So, if you like Arione saddles you may love this saddle as it does reduce the pressure on the sensitive parts.

However, for me the pressure relief cutaway is just too small relative to other saddles with cutaways for pressure relief. I am hoping in the future Fizik does put out Arione saddle with bigger cutaways.

I ordered the large version of the Aliante R3 open. It could only handle this saddle for 60-65 km on the road and 1. 5 hrs on the trainer. After such time/milage this saddle felt like a personal torture machine.

I could feel the ridges of the cutout. I wanted to give this saddle a fair chance and tried it with different bibs, different tilts and fore/aft positions. Nothing worked. No matter what the pain would come after the time/mileage i mentioned above.

For the asking price i was expecting something much better. I know saddles are a personal choice. What works for me may not work for you. This did not work for me.

I bought this saddle as a replacement to my Selle Italia Turbomatic Gel Flow, which was comfortable, but lost its support and comfort after a few years of use. The Antares R3 Open is of the same style (flat with cut out, narrow nose).

Initially this saddle was quite comfortable, and posed little problem for rides up to 60km. However, I found I became uncomfortable after about 2 hours as a result of pain under the sit bones and chafing against the rather sharp edge of the narrow nose.

When racing, most of the weight is on the pedals and not so much on the saddle, as a result of riding in a low position. In this case the saddle does a good job, similar to the Turbomatic, but is much firmer, but lighter.

The narrow nose will likely be enough to not rub against the inner thigh, but this was a problem for me, so I prefer a saddle with a vertical profile along the edge of the nose, so that the thigh can slide along it.

For endurance riding, and cases where the pelvis is rocked forward (i. e. , flat lower spine), this is not the best choice. It is better to go with a model with a curved profile, that rises at the back to support the ischial tubersosities (sit bones) as they push back, while at the same time extending down sides of the nose.

I ended up returning this item and received a refund, which I used to buy other training gear. Thanks MEC.

I got this saddle as a quick replacement for a recent newly attained road bike. The previous saddle made me numb after 10 miles. This saddle was an immediate change in comfort. Is it a celle italia no.

Is it a Brooks, no. Ive ridden on an italia and one of my l’eroica bikes has a brooks. Which I love. For the money the cloud 9 sport is exceptional and I haven’t suffered from any numbness. If you need a seat and are on a tight budget, this one is worth a shot.

Best seat I’ve rode on for under 50 bucks! I’m guessing I wont need to replace it on my new ride. Which is a relief to my wallet!.

This is a far more comfortable seat than what came on my Trek 850 MTB! There is a nice dip to spare my tailbone, a smooth non-slippery fabric covering, and gel padding that is not overly squishy. Meets my needs perfectly and at a very attractive price.

Highly recommended for other MTB riders who are using their bikes for fitness riding in urban settings, rather than deep in the boondocks.

The quality of this saddle is really good. It doesnt feel cheap at all. It doesnt fit my little guys bike however. but thats my own fault. The seat post thats on my boys bike is a larger diameter than the spot in the saddle.

So we cant use it just yet.

Came as promised. Product was in great condition. This saddle is designed for a woman with wide sit bones! The only one I have found that works for me! Measure first!

Bought this – or rather the Novus Boost Evo TM, which is identical in shape but sits one rung higher and a few grams lighter in the model hierarchy – as a replacement / upgrade to my beloved but aging Specialized Power saddle.

I bought it without trying first, which of course was a bit of a gamble; but it seemed similar enough on my computer screen that I decided to try my luck. Long story short, this is an excellent saddle and every bit as comfortable as the Specialized Power.

If your undercarriage gets along with the Power, chances are you’ll like the Novus Boost Evo Superflow too. The Specialized has more generous padding, which makes it possible to ride without cycling shorts and hence makes a great saddle for a commuter bike or urban bike.

The fit and finish on this Selle Italia is a step above the Specialized, general quality seems higher, and it feels more racy or performance focused (the firmer padding probably has something to do with this).

It looks great, too – certainly better than the Specialized Power. In summary: the best saddle I ever tried – the Specialized Power – has met it’s match.

I experienced occasional chafing after long rides. I tried several Specialized saddles over the years but none seemed to solve the problem. I can across this one, with high reviews on one of the cycling forums (don’t remember which one).

My rides have been heavenly, I don’t dread long rides anymore. If anything, I think the stiffness of the saddle means I can generate more pedal force. I wish I had tried it sooner. I think lack of the long saddle nose and a more ergonomic profile means your butt cheek sitting bones are the only point of contact with the saddle, that’s it! I wish they would have added just a little bit more cushion but I can live with it.

I’ll just have to get a seat post that smooths out the road roughness better. This saddle is well worth the money I spend on it. By all means, buy one if you have issues with chafing and general sitting discomfort.

I’ve had a number of saddles over the years ranging in price and quality. I usually research products before I buy and have to like the look. This saddle looks great and is so comfortable. I’m a well built lad so comfort in a saddle is often difficult to find unless you spend a lot.

However this saddle not only looks good and does what it says it’s also such good value.

I bought this 2 years ago as I started riding rollers in the winter months and all the other saddles I tried left me numb on the sensitive bits after 10-20 minutes on the rollers as I’m not good enough to stand/shift much when riding rollers and would ride pretty much locked into a position apart from occasional ventures into the drops and back up on the hoods.

I can go 35-50minutes on the rollers with this saddle without numbness issues–and none of the complete numbness that kicked in after 8-10 minutes with other saddles. This summer, it held up well on a 24 hour, 300 mile road ride.

Others in my group had significant saddle sore issues that limited their enjoyment of the ride, but I felt great the whole way. I’ll ride this or future editions until someone proves there’s a better saddle out there for my body.

143 size was perfect for my 5’11” 180s lb body.

After discovering the PHENOM, all my S-Works EPICs have been fitted with an S-Works Phenom. The Power Saddle comes off, and the PHENOM goes on. I like the range in the length of the Phenom. Especially for climbing.

On the 2014,15, 18, 20 and now, 2021 (EPICs) have proven the PHENOM over and over again. In my last three XC races here in So Cal, I forgot the Chamois Butter twice. And when I realized it, I was confident the PHENOM wouldn’t let me down.

And it didn’t. I even took the W in all three races 😉 I just happen to be here on the website to order the latest S-Works PHENOM for my 2021 S-Works EPIC. I’m currently riding a back-up SW Phenom from 2018.

I ride the most current Phenom model on my 2021 S-Works EPIC HT. I like the way it looks and feels. It seems faster and lighter, too 🙂 So just thought I’d share.

Tried the Romin Evo mirror to take the place of my now retired Toupe. Didnt work right off the bat. Went to this Phenom based on other reviews of previous Toupe riders saying the Phenom was just as good as the Touple, if not better.

I agree, love this Phenom. Use it on my Roubaix. This is not just an MTB saddle.

Having never quite been totally comfortable over the years, I have swapped saddles around quite often. I know that saddles are very personal, but maybe the info below will help others before splurging on this.

Fizik Arione- Used for two years- OK but started feeling pressure points and the occasional saddle sore in rides over 100 miles in the same spot. Fizik Arione R1 Versus Evo- Full channel cut out, the fixed the pressure point, but I cracked the base on several of these and had to warranty them.

Once the base cracked, I developed saddle sores in the same spot as before. Prologo dimension- My first short nose saddle, came on my CX bike. Felt OK off road but did not get on with it on my road bike.

Specialized Power Comp- Came stock on my Venge. It felt very strange- not uncomfortable, just strange compared to my Arione Versus. I also didn’t like the look of it, letting vanity prevail I sold it online and used the Fizik Versus again.

Fast forward another year, with both Arione VS Evo’s cracked (this was the second warranty now) I decided to chance it and go back to power saddles. I ordered a Power Comp and if need be, would use on my CX bike.

It took a little getting used to, but the difference was night and day. Wider platform to sit on, just check you get the right width as your thighs could rub the back of the saddle. Went ahead for the Power Carbon on my SL7 and its been great- a little less padding than the Comp and Expert but very supportive.

The only caveat is the saddle does rotate your pelvis slightly forward, and you will find your hamstrings burning the first few rides. Great saddle, works for me.

Sit bone width 113 Saddle width 143 After spending a season on the Specialized Power Saddle, I found that there were some pressure points that developed for me over some of my longer rides. After a bit of research I found that the Specialized Power Arc saddle was specifically with a different curve than the original Power saddle.

This means that if you want a Power saddle but you felt like the original power didn’t fit well for you, then this is your answer. For me this was the case. I found that I was able to ride on this saddle more comfortably and for longer than I was able to ride on the sister saddle.

I also found that by comparison, I lost none of the gains in power that the saddle allowed me to have. That being said, this still isn’t a great long distance saddle. You’re going to be much better off using the Romin saddle if you want a similar fit for anything longer than 70-80 miles of riding.

The overall design of the saddle is perfect for allowing you to put down the power. The shape of the saddle in the rear is more flat, and the middle cutout makes it ideal for any type of riding, road, gravel or mountain.

The shorter nose allows for more aggressive positioning when needed although you should note that you will likely need to make some fore and aft adjustments to your regular saddle position by comparison.

Between this saddle and the Power Arc saddle, if you’re on the hunt for a new seat, I firmly believe that you’ll find a great fit on one or the other of the two after trying both.

Nice looking saddle, sleek lines, Sella Italia quality and construction. Firm padding, adequate give but not a cushy surface. Comfortable for road riding the tops and drops, doesnt let me ride on the aero bars for extended periods (could tilt down more but then one would slide forward when in an upright riding position).

So I dont recommend for tri or TT. Also ride Sella Italia SLR Kit Carbonio, which is comparable in feel and comfort. Also have tried Specialized Romin & Fizik Arione which for me are both less comfortable.

This saddle rocks!!! I used it yesterday for my first 70. 3 triathlon – was wearing triathlon shorts, not cycling shorts and I could not get over how comfortable I was. I had such a great ride!! No rubbing, no raw spots, nothing.

I found it very uncomfortable as it’s way too wide at its narroweat for my needs. Quality is to be expected from this brand and the ethos is one that drew me to buying it. Maybe I just bought the wrong size saddle, I’ve always been a flite ti man.

I’m 170lbs with narrow sit-bones and am looking for something that I can basically forget about for 2hr+ rides. The full length channel is much appreciated, but the wings/shoulders of the saddle end up digging into my rear end on the pedal downstroke.

I’ll try it for another few weeks to see if I adapt, but I may have to switch to a Seller Anatomica. I was really hoping this would be the one.

Fantastic saddle, I found it instantly comfortable without the usual period of adjustment to a new perch. Cutaway and short nose combination solved a numbness problem I was starting to get on longer rides too.

I love the shape of it with the slight upturn to the rear helping you feel planted in position rather than sliding about when pedalling hard. Also seems quite shock absorbing. I’m going to buy another one for my gravel bike when it arrives and I’m even thinking about it for my XC bike too!.

Having been through several saddles, i gave this one a try after some reccomendations from some guys in my local club. When i get a new saddle i always try it on the turbo trainer, if it is comfy there there is a very good chance it will be nice on the road.

Now after 1000km i bought a second one for my winter bike. I even used it in a few TTs in conjunction with some aerobars. It’s comfy while riding on the hoods, but when you get on the drops/aero hoods position, this is where it shines.

The saddle was a good width, and suits a relaxed riding position, but I found it a bit hard. It’s also adds a couple of inches of height to my previous saddle making it difficult to get my feet on the ground! However, my husband has adopted it and thinks it will suit him well enough.

I have to say, though that Tredz have been brilliant; really kind and helpful, and I wouldn’t hesitate to buy from them again.

This was our first order and it went really well. The items were shipped without a hiccup. The website was easy to use. All items were priced well, and good quality. We’ll definitely come back for future bicycles needs.

DISAPPOINTED to discover this seat did not come with its own post. Have to remove and take the current seat completely apart, attach this one together and then insert onto bike just to try it to see if it’ll work for me.

Seems to be good quality, just can’t use yet due to the above.
