20 Best Bike Helmets For Kids (2023 Updated)

We got this helmet for our now 3 year old when he had just turned 2. We recently had to size up so got him the small and his little brother (14 months) has the xs. The kids have different shaped heads (longer front to back vs more round) but these helmets fit them both so well.

We love the adjustment wheel on the back. The 14 month old loves his so much that he wants to wear it every time he sees it…so we have a lot of pictures of him wearing it in his pajamas, while eating breakfast, playing with trucks on the living room floor…can’t say enough about these adorable, affordable, safe little head protectors!.

First off, it’s really is a lovely helmet. The finish is great, and the little features like the magnetic clip and the hole to put your lock through really separate it from the run of the mill helmet options.

It fits very much like a BMX helmet, more of a bucket feel than a road helmet, but pretty comfy albeit lightly padded. I’ve owned a ton of helmets over the years (I’m a year round bike commuter) and this one is by far my most stylish! However, I should have listened more carefully in the comments about sizing — IT FITS SMALL! I’ve always been a Medium with my helmets but the Heritage Medium was super tight.

And as I live in Canada that’s when it got complicated. Noting the other Canadian’s comment, I’d disagree as it does NOT cost half the price of the helmet to mail it back, but it was $25, and then I got a customs charge on the new one that was sent.

So that’s the bad news. The good news is that the Thousand Support team were super responsive and even gave me a refund on the unexpected customs charge, which I appreciated and took the sting out of the process.

So overall, a thumbs up from me, it’s a terrific product, just ORDER UP A SIZE. Safe riding!.

The instructions tell you to make sure the helmet is pulled down far enough over your forehead, and warn you not to keep the helmet tilted up too much. I neglected to do this my first bike ride and got a pretty bad headache.

However, when the helmet is in the correct position, the visor obstructs your view if you’re on a road bike or any other bike with an aggressive geometry. I’m used to keeping a fairly neutral spine and just looking up with my eyes to look ahead, but can’t do that with this helmet as the visor is in the way.

However, the adjustable plastic portion of the helmet goes so far down the back of my head that lifting my head up enough to see forward means the plastic actually digs into my neck. This neck angle, the sharp plastic digging into my neck, and the heavy weight of the helmet (490 grams for the large, whereas most XL helmets I’ve used before have all been under 400 grams) all contribute to headaches and general discomfort.

At a particular head angle, the vents on the top of the helmet will whistle pretty loudly. I have a pretty oval head shape, and no matter how tight I make the adjustment, the helmet can swing side to side more than it feels like it should.

I know my head is more oval than normal because I’ve never been able to find a motorcycle helmet that doesn’t press way too hard into my forehead (without fail every helmet gives me a huge headache after more than an hour of riding, I always have to shave down the front EPS foam with a knife) while still remaining snug around the rest of my head.

This helmet therefore looks way too wide on me, it doesn’t look nearly as good as it does on the models on Thousand’s website. My head is 60. 5cm, but perhaps I should have gotten a medium to compensate for the ovalness of my head—although I’m not sure a medium would have enough length to fit my head, the large already feels pretty snug front-to-back.

The number and size of vents are really very small. I have not used this helmet through a summer yet but I can see it becoming very uncomfortable on strenuous rides. I would have just bought the MIPS helmet which has much more adequate venting and looks like it would be far more comfortable if it 1.

was in stock, 2. didn’t have that light that I don’t need or want, 3. wasn’t so expensive. The U-lock hole so far has worked exactly as advertised, it magnetically snaps back into place and is very convenient; I wish other helmet manufacturers would take note.

The magnetic latch is fantastic, it can be easily done up and undone with one hand once you get used to it, which means no more having to stop after you start riding having forgotten to do up your helmet.

The padding is easy to take off and seems to be very washable. This is actually one of the primary reasons I bought the helmet (although it was really difficult to find a picture of the inside of the helmet anywhere on Thousand’s website, I think I actually had to watch one of their YouTube videos to catch a brief glimpse of the inside of one); my last helmet had forehead padding integrated with a visor which I think must have been made out of cardboard, and would soak up a ton of sweat and was not exactly washable.

I would soak the thing through with sweat in my morning commute, and it wouldn’t even be dry by my evening commute. So it smelled horrible no matter how much I tried to clean it. This Heritage helmet has much less padding and no cardboard visor, so this is not a problem.

However it might have a bit of the opposite problem: there is no horizontal strip of padding along the forehead and the vertical strips of padding are quite thin, meaning it does kind of feel like my forehead is pressing into the EPS foam directly and is not as comfortable as it could be.

I ride a Onewheel GT. After having a pretty violent wreck I promised my family that I’d start wearing a helmet. I purchased the Heritage in Navy and had it customized. It took a couple weeks to get and when it arrived it was very nice looking.

There was one little spot that was whitish but besides that it was perfect. The adjustability is great and the helmet fits me very well. Unfortunately, I had the opportunity to test out the safety of the helmet when I had a wreck at 20+mph.

The left rear side of my head struck the pavement and manhole cover that caused the wreck. I thought for sure I had crushed the shell of the helmet but was thankful for having a helmet on. Once I reached my final destination I took my helmet off and was amazed that there were only minor scratches and the shell integrity was fully intact.

The only resulting injury was a skinned elbow torn pants and a headache.

Helmet is a bit awkward to put on. It fits the exact same way her toddler helmet fit. Its not bigger. Im not sure why. Otherwise its a lovely looking helmet. We are trying to make it work but it doesnt fit great.

The pictures on the helmet are very vibrant with just enough sparkle to keep my 2. 5 year old giddy every time she gets to wear it. The crown is precious and the clip is made to help ensure skin is not pinched when buckled.

It has a great fit and the picture doesn’t do it justice.

My daughter loves this helmet. As a huge Frozen fan she adores the little tiara In the front. It does the job of protecting her head when she’s on her scooter or bike. She has curly, Columbus hair and usually helmets for her age don’t fit her head but this one is good.

We had an earlier, non-MIPS version of the Scamp in an XS when my daughter was a baby/toddler that we liked the fit of. Excited to see this new version, so when she outgrew the XS, we tried on and picked up the S at REI.

I’ve been super disappointed with this version though. I love the idea of added safety features, but the MIPS “buttons” or whatever they are called pull my daughter’s hair out every time we remove the helmet.

There are chunks of hair in it and she cringes each time so I have to be super careful. The older kids’ version of the Giro MIPS helmet has a soft covering over those, not sure why this one is missing that.

We also have a hard time keeping this one placed right on her head, it always wants to slide down. When she wears her big sister’s, it seems to be better.

Unfortunately I learned the hard way that the size chart linked by Backcountry is incorrect. The chart lists five sizes for bike helmets: – S / M – M / L – TODDLER – UNIVERSAL CHILD – UNIVERSAL YOUTH As you can see there is on XS or S which are the two sizes you can purchase this helmet in.

The size chart in the link does have an XS and S in the snow helmets. So basically you are left guessing what size these helmets are. I assumed it would be the same as the XS (48. 5 – 52cm) and S (52 – 55.

5cm) snow helmets. Unfortunately after purchasing the XS for my daughter (who has a 50mm head circumference) the item arrived and the box listed it as 45 – 49 cm. So now I have to return it which means: – waiting longer to get the right sized helmet – losing $6 since I have to pay for return shipping (per the returns policy) despite the fact this is really the responsibility of Backcountry since they do not have the correct size chart linked to this item.

So to save any other parents from having to deal with this annoyance, here is the correct sizing of the Giro Scamp per the manufacturer: XS 45 – 49 cm S 49 – 53 cm.

I love how it is adjustable not only with the dial adjustment but also the straps can also be adjusted through the back of the head loop to move the clasp too. My little ones head is a little l on the larger size and slightly rounder than most I believe but it still fits well.

He’s 2 years old. The quality is amazing. you can really feel the difference between this and many other types of helmets. The colour is a matte black which is what I prefer. Overall a very nice looking helmet.

The one thing I’m a little concerned about is they say the tip of the front of the helmet should pass the nose of the child. this one barely passes my little ones nose. Overall just make sure you measure the size of your child’s head.

This will ensure you get an accurate fit.

My 3 year old loves his new helmet. The red is awesome, he now requests his “race car” helmet. The helmet covers his head well and doesn’t slide around like so many other helmets do. I especially like the coverage on the back of his head.

The best feature this helmet has is the dial that adjusts the overall size of the helmet. It’s super quick and easy to adjust. I didn’t give the helmet 5 stars because I still had a tough time adjusting the clips around my son’s chin.

I also wish the clip was easier for my 3 year old to fasten/unfasten independently. Overall, this is a well made helmet that covers my son’s head well. I feel that he’ll be well protected while riding his bike/scooter.

I bought the helmet to go along with the pedalless bike for my two year old grandson. The helmet is nice looking and very sturdy. It’s high quality gives me peace of mind to know that the helmet will be protective.

we measured, we ordered and we ended up with too small a helmet and a new bike on Christmas morning. I just noticed the date on previous reviews- they are all OLD. I even chatted with a rep to make sure we bought the correct size.

The helmet was too small. Can you imagine a 3 year old getting a new bike for Christmas and then not being allowed to ride it because the bike helmet Santa sent was too small? UGH The helmet DOES NOT FIT THE SIZES IT SAYS IT WILL.

Love this Joovy helmet! I bought this size for my two young toddlers. While a bit large in size, you can turn the knob to fit their heads perfectly. Love the colors they come in too! Beautiful, bright, and easily noticeable.

This helmet fits my 2 year old (26 months) perfectly. I don’t know that it will last more than a year but I prefer the helmet to fit for better protection. The orange color is great too, not fluorescent but bright enough to be easily spotted.

When he eventually outgrows this helmet I won’t hesitate to purchase the next larger size.

I planned to buy a mountain bicycle and I didn’t buy it because of the manager at the store. At the store was the last GT bicycle that on the website it didn’t reflect. I asked two sales men if they will match the price (10% on the website) the said they will match the price because it’s did not show on the website that the bicycle exist.

When I went to pick the bicycle up the manager refused give me the 10%. I left without the bicycle. I still purchased the helmet because I didn’t want to disappoint her. I will never come back to this store.

The bicycle sales man was great.

I paid $11 and it wasn’t worth it. It looks like it was made from garbage they found on the factory floor. A very thin layer of plastic taped not well to some Styrofoam. The straps are all over your face and still don’t secure the helmet.

They fell apart as I tried to adjust them. Further “Adult” is not a helmet size. This helmet is size 57-60 or Adult M/L and it won’t fit if your head is 57 or medium. Probably great if you have a huge head and you don’t want to protect it, otherwise pay $20+ for a real helmet.

I bought this helmet for my 4. 5 year old daughter. She had the princess one that didn’t have enough airflow and was never comfortable on her head. When she saw this helmet she lit up like an xmas tree! The colors are more beautiful in person and she couldn’t wait to ride her bike with it! It is an excellent purchase that will adjust to her head size as she gets older.

So, we have another Bern kids’ helmet and love it. It’s got high-quality padding and easy, effective size adjustment, and has fit our daughter for a long time. It feels safe and secure, and it seems comfortable.

So, we ordered this newer model as a size-up for our younger daughter and it’s honestly kind of awful. Very little padding inside the helmet; the Mips system isn’t covered at all and the little silicone buttons get all stuck in the poor kid’s hair.

It has elastic on the back, but there is no real way to adjust the size/fit. It’s too big and doesn’t feel like it would offer very much protection even though I checked head circumference, etc. before purchasing.

Disappointed to say the least.

Fabric insert is hot in summer, doesn’t get very tight, and makes the helmet impossible for the child to put on themselves. The back folds under and gets stuck and uncomfortable unless an adult holds it in place while the child puts the helmet on.

An older or more coordinated kid might be able to figure out how to do it themselves but a 3-5 year old will have trouble. So the XS and S sizes. The fabric gets hot and itchy in the summer, esp the back part that hits the nape of the neck.

Using fabric and Velcro as the tightening mechanism leaves the helmet pretty loose no matter what. This helmet has caused meltdowns in our house. No thank you!.

My husband has been feeling the bern since before we were married and wears an older bern that he swears by. It has the zip mold technology and is light and very strong. Since I am a bit less progressive I have always been more expressive of my freedom to choose to not wear a helmet.

Our daughter Hanna is two now and really enjoys riding in the bike trailer (yes she wears a helmet). My husband has convinced me i need to start setting a good example and don some head protection. While making excuses for bot getting i helmet i saw the brentwood in blush and decided to go for it , since i am a pink gal.

The size is spot on and while it feels very substantial it is also well vented. I am actually somewhat disappointed at how well it fits and feels and think i should have gotten a helmet sooner. I get lots of compliments and always tell them its a bern you should get one.

I love this was on sale. I bought for my 22 month old daughter. She will be getting a bike with training wheels for her 2nd birthday. So safety first! My daughter is tall and big for her age. She is the size of a 3.

5 year old and this helmet fit her well. Just had to adjust the straps. The color and pattern are pretty.

My daughter loves this helmet. She used to ride her scooter around the house without a helmet. One I purchased this helmet, she keeps asking for this helmet before riding her scooter. The print is so pretty.

OMG, this is just the cutest helmet I have ever seen. I got this for my 3yr. old granddaughter and she looked so adorable in it. It fit great, and will provide the protection she needs. It is really pretty with the beautiful colors, but the big jeweled ‘tiara’ on the front is to die for and puts it over the top of cuteness.

Bought this helmet for my 3 year old great-granddaughter along with the 12 inch Minnie Mouse 2 wheeler with training wheels. The helmet is functional, fit her head well and is very cute. She just loves it! I removed one star because the strap is very short, so not much room for adjustability under the chin.

Once, the snapping part slid right off the strap. We are going to have to add to the strap to keep that from happening. Not sure all the helmets have short straps or if it’s just the one we got.

Caveat: We returned this and bought the POC Crane MIPS for kids instead. This helmet is great and consistent with the Bern quality (my own adult helmets are from Bern). The shape is very nice and goes down to the back nicely.

It has the holes to attach the Bern goggle clip or a light at the back (not included). In the end, we kept the POC because it’s easier to attach goggles to that one by shifting the helmet a bit up and back.

We have the option to attach a cloth-covered cardboard brim to that one. With the fixed brim on this, it was a bit tight for a helmet. Also the POC just fit better for my child’s head but YMMV.

I love this shirt. Lovely color, but it is more orange than the photo shows. Nicely detailed. Three pockets, two zippered and one with a velcro closure. I haven’t put it to the test on a really hot day, but found it quite comfortable on a warm day.

Because several reviewers indicated it runs a bit small, I was concerned and measured myself before ordering. I was at the upper end of the stated measurement range and the shirt fits me perfectly. If I was in the range between the upper limit of my size and the lower limit of the next size up, I’m sure this shirt would be too snug.

If you are in that gap range, I would definitely recommend ordering the larger size. I tried pressing out the wrinkles and caused some damage to the fabric. When they say Cool Iron, they aren’t kidding.

I am never going to use an iron on it again. It caused multiple snags in the fabric (there is nothing rough causing it to catch on my iron). I was able to pull them to the inside with a very small crochet hook (metal, size 13 hook) and now the damage isn’t readily apparent, except to me.

This is the second color purchased in this particular line (Irico). These shirts are perfect for wearing on the jobsite while doing fieldwork. The cut of the shirt is slim, but not too tight or constricting.

Very flattering. The ventilation (both in the shirt vents and the perforations) works effectively. The length hits at my upper hip, which doesn’t bother me but may be undesirable to others. I really like this shirt because I prefer the cap sleeves over the longer (but still short) sleeves.

The shirt does an awesome job in wicking away sweat and making me feel cool, even during the hot Florida summers. For reference, I’m 5’-6” and 148# and the medium fits me perfectly.

The orange tape comes apart and the helmet falls completely apart. We called schwinn and they replaced it but that one did the same thing. It literally fell apart hanging in the closet. The first one fell apart hanging from the bike handlebars.

It’s too expensive for that kind of quality. Very disappointed.

Great experience of trying on this product (Polaryte HD Vision Polarized Sunglass). It works as good as shown in the Ads demo. I hope this eyewear product may last me for some reasonable time frame and its durability standard being codes.

Runs small! I couldn’t even get it on our 12-month old grandson, extended all the way to the largest settings. Now I have to resell it, because I failed to keep the packaging for a return.

Before buying this mattress I had to battle with some hesitation after reading some of the horror story reviews posted above. The price point, rating quantity over 100K and the good reviews swayed me.

Here are the pros from my experience:1. Arrived two days early, and the instructions process unboxing, unrolling went off without a hitch!2. NONE of the horrible/disappointing outcomes some folks encountered! My mattress has no mold, no funny smell or bedbugs.

Perhaps it has something to do with the age of the product on the tag there was a ship date stamped on it 12/2021, which could mean my mattress was sitting in a warehouse since then after being manufactured in Bulgaria.

3. The firmness, comfort and sleep quality I had on this mattress the first night was noticeable. The first time in my life that I look forward to sleeping/sleep as an adult not enough hours in a day, am I right?This is the closest thing I have to a con:

It came out of the box and plumped up to 9 inches measured profile immediately. I have a 10-inch model, but reading some of the other reviews led me to believe this could be as far as it was gonna go – that or the company does profile-to-top side.

To LinenSpa’s credit they recommended 48-72 hours before sleeping on it. I gave it a mere 10 and slept on it the same night again, inferring via other reviews. Even without the final inch, this is a great buy for me.

If any changes occur between now and a month, I will modify the review!.

I have bought two mattresses from linenspa on Home Deliveries USA, a queen 12 inch and a twin 8 inch. Absolutely no bed bug issues here and I dont even know how they would get in, these mattresses are packed so tightly in the plastic.

I feel like you could get hurt if the thing snaps at you unrolling when youre opening it, beware. Anyhow both mattresses are super comfortable and cost way less than a name brand from a store. They fluffed up within like 8 hours.

There is also no fiberglass stuffing which can explode little tiny shards all over your house. It is true, the edge support isnt amazing — but its hardly so bad I feel like Im rolling off of it. I would say sitting on the edge in the middle feels the least supportive.

But saving 300 or 400 dollars made me know what I was getting into. Kudos to the delivery guy cause the queen 12 is enormous and heavy even when rolled and vacuum sealed, he was a beast!I dont normally leave reviews for stuff online but I bought my first one in 2018 and again right at the end of 2021 and wanted to help dispel the negative reviews.

I dunno where the bad QC could be coming from, but these mattresses are pretty good for the price, like most cheap Home Deliveries USA stuff, people expect something equal to a 2000 mattress, which this isnt.

But for a good nights cheap sleep, you cant beat these linenspa hybrid mattress.

There were no specific measurements on the website, but since it is advertised as 5+, I thought it would fit my 3 year old daughter. However, it is very snug. Max 52 cm. It will not last her long. Also the fit is not great, it keeps tipping back, even though I have tightened all the straps.

My daughter loves how it looks and the colouring function however.

The dry erase feature is nice. the helmets are good quality. Both my kids (daughter 7 son 8) spent time drawing on the helmets and playing with the stencils when we first got them which was a good way to get them kinda excited about their helmets instead of grumbling about wearing them.

Its been a few months and my son hasn’t kept drawing – but my daughter has redesigned hers a few times. good shape and fit. kids are comfortable in them. seem well made – my kids throw them in the garage even though i tell them not to do that, but so far they are holding up well.

Bought two of these and the blue (my son’s favourite colour) wouldn’t work form either back and the orange also barely worked. The only ones they can use that show up are silver and pink. Pretty disappointing for my 4yo.

Otherwise decent helmets.

The helmet is not actually adjustable like I thought it was upon purchase. All it has is an elastic bit on the back. But it was too big. Needed it right then, though. No time to exchange it. So, we tightened up the elsastic with a needle and thread.

Not the best option, and I shouldn’t have had to, but it worked. So, we kept it, but it wasn’t realy right.

This is a very nice helmet. Got it for just under $21,. downside of my purchase, I bought the helmet with a bike, so I had them shipped and got charged a $16. 45 hardware charge, which turned out to be a Shipping and handling charge from the vendor of the helmet! so now I actually paid almost $38 for the helmet and could have had the bike delivered free and dome free pickup for the helmet at Walmart.

So beware when making this purchase.

Love the color, bright orange, easy to see. Fits well. My 3 year old doesn’t have a huge head but we find that most five plus helmets are way too small on him. This also comes with thicker pads to put in if the thin ones make the helmet too large.

Razor is a name I trust so I went with this helmet for my 11 year old son. Once adjusted properly, the helmet does not move back and forth with head movement. Full coverage from forehead to base of skull.

Comfortable and breathable. The matte finish gives it a sleek and modern look.

My 3 year old son got a new bike for Christmas and had grown out of his baby/infant sized helmet he used on his tricycle. I chose this helmet mostly for the Paw Patrol design, but also because it is (supposedly) CPSC certified.

The first time I put this on my son the actual helmet piece had a decent enough fit, but the straps?! NIGHTMARE. They are nearly impossible to adjust even with the helmet in your hands, and quite literally impossible to adjust AT ALL if the helmet is on the child’s head.

The straps seem uneven and in order to get them tight enough to remotely secure the helmet it makes the sliding pieces (that go under the ears) crooked also. Upon the second wear the velcro dial-adjuster came out completely and has since decided it no longer fits back into the helmet shell the way it was manufactured to no matter how you line it up.

Once it was removed and put back in the Velcro strap is very uneven and hangs down so far in the back that it touches his back. The dial still spins and it seems like it it is tightening and loosening but does nothing as far securing the helmet to his head.

My son also complains about it pinching him as well as getting stuck in his hair. Overall the entire product is made with poor quality materials and has a difficult design. I would not recommend this to anyone, in fact I’m going to attempt to return.

I’ve already purchased another toddler helmet that its CPSC certified as well as MIPS certified. at this point I feel like ANYTHING other than this helmet will be an upgrade. The way that this helmet fights, there is NO WAY that it is even remotely safe or secure.

The moral of the story? You get what you pay for. and you can pay just a little bit more to get a MUCH better quality item that will actually PROTECT you child’s head. and that is most definitely worth the few extra bucks every time!.

My son is three year old. The helmet is very small. I had to return and got a new one for 3-5 year olds. Perfect for his a little big head. Although the helmet is cute, the size is too small for a three year old.

I got the cars one, my son loved it and the size is just perfect. Also, the helmet is very light and cute.

This helmet is great, really lightweight and such a nice bright colour. My little 16 month old likes to find it and put it on her own head!

We love these. We have them for all of our kids. They fit great and are easy to adjust. And are super cute!

Bought for my son to learn to ride his bike withOUT training wheels and he picked it out. I am familiar with the Giro brand from my own ownership of it. They take a beating and save your bean! “Endoed” onto my head and actually skidded on my noggin for several feet and both me and the helmet survived so I know my Son is protected.

Bought this for my 11 yr old son; the helmet’s great and easy to adjust. He uses mainly for when he bikes to/from school.

So I was wondering is it MIPS covered? But overall it is very cool. I would definitely recommend. I was a little concerned about the size but then it said one size fits all so I am glad.

I have a very small head and therefore had to resort to youth helmets. I was wearing this helmet while descending down a double black in Phoenix when I flipped over my handle bars and went head first into a rock.

The helmet did it’s job and did it well. I ended up cracking my helmet but walked away with no head injuries. However, I definitely didn’t walk away unscathed with some fractured vertebrate and some stitches, but without that helmet I’m not sure I’d be walking at all.

Not the most glamorous or comfortable, but from a protection standpoint it gets 5 stars.

Looked and fit great on the head of my 2. 5yo, but the straps were at least a half-inch too short and interfered with his ears. Since straps are not adjustable, returned the helmet. Otherwise, was a small version of a great adult helmet!.
