It is a good sized hardback book that should last for years to come. It isn’t huge but maybe a little bigger than a 5×7. This would be a great gift for any family to help lead them to teaching God’s word to their children and a good quiet time for the night to focus on God before bed! The recommended age for this book (8+), is correct. The flow of the stories beginning with creation and continuing as they happened, provides continuity, so are easy for children to follow. The stories are the correct length, so as to hold the child’s attention, but not too short as to leave them wanting more.
The level of detail is good even for 5-6 year olds, and the style of writing is interesting and engaging. The things I found missing on reading two of the most famous stories, were that in the story of Noah, it does not mention that it rained for 40 days and 40 nights, and in the story of Jacob, it doesn’t mention that Joseph’s coat was of many colours.
I think that these are two things which would stick in childrens’ minds I haven’t yet read the whole book yet, so am not sure if there are similar significant omissions in other stories. I found the illustrations a little lacking.
This is mainly because of the ‘sketch-style’ used, which doesn’t give a fuller, more detailed picture, which for children, I think is important. Overall, I do like this book.
I had read this book to my children, was thrilled to find it! I will say it is not laid out the same as I remembered the print is too large and illustrations don’t flow as well as the original book. I am still glad I bought three copied one for each of my grandchildren’s homes but I was disappointed that is not as nice as the original.
My one son was touched that he can read the same book to his children.

This “bible” is excellent. I think it would be valuable for new believers as well as children. The stories aren’t sugar coated like so many children’s bibles. Hurlburt retells the Bible in great detail but not so much as to make the story drag.
I have a bachelor’s degree in Bible and completed most of a master’s degree in New Testament. When I read this to my daughter I make connections that I’ve never made before and come away with a better understanding of the scriptures.
This book is out of print so if you have the opportunity to buy it don’t pass it up.
This also is a Birthday gift for a 4 year old Autistic boy. Mom will be able to start with the first story as the are labeled Day 1, Day 2 etc. , so the day of the year won’t matter. She will be able to cuddle up and read a new bedtime Bible Story 365 days.
I will be exchanging these books because I was looking to buy Jesse Lyman Hurlbut’s “Bedtime Bible Story Book”. The covers are almost identical but the stories in this book, “365 Read-aloud Bedtime Bible Stories”, are written more simply and don’t have the detail of Hurlbut’s.
This book is fine for young children to read, but after having read Hurlbut’s book to my children over and over I have come to appreciate the detail and completeness of Hurlbut’s stories. I attribute much of my children’s early love of God and training in the Word to the just-before-bedtime reading in the Hurlbut Bedtime Bible Story Book.

In all my life, I had never heard about them and searched the Internet and was so amazed at what was there – in plain sight! And they are all over the world! God is so amazingly AWESOME – as Psalms 92 reads – I will sing for joy at the works of Thy hands – How great are Thy works, o LORD!.
IšverstiShow in original languageThis book is awesome! It’s not just for children because it contains lots of interesting information about the Creation and our awesome Creator. I’m only about 1/4 into the book but it is certainly capturing my attention.
I’m not currently working with any children because I attend a very small church which, like many churches, shrunk because of the pandemic. However, I’m hoping to return to my volunteer work at a local middle school this fall.
One of the things that I appreciate about the book is that it will appeal to a wide age range. I’m certain that my middle school students well enjoy it as much as I do!.
