20 Best Work Pants With Knee Pads (2023 Updated)

Lack of consistency and quality control I usually purchase Dickies Painter’s pants at other online outlets, with some success regarding size. I decided to try ordering, direct from Dickies. Received the product on time.

Ordered White Painter’s pants (WH1953). However, I received Natural Beige Utility pants. I ordered my usual size, but these are exceedingly tight. They were made in Bangladesh. I have six other pairs of DICKIES White Painter’s pants, all the same size, all less than a year old; a few were made in Honduras (slightly tight), the others were made in Kenya (fit just right).

I am disappointed with everything about this order.

I prefer to wear natural cottton fabric pants due to skin irritation issues. However, nowadays most pants are treated with a non-iron coating and if you want durability you have to opt for a cotton/polyester blend.

All those factors make finding a basic cotton pant to wear very difficult in my price range. My last pair of casual every day pants wore out in 5 months with various tears. All those factors led me to buy these Double knee Utility Pants.

I had known about the Dickies brand for years as being strictly workwear, so I assume that they must have durable clothing. After wearing these pants for a few weeks I see that they are also very comfortable and look great.

They pair well with various polo shirts and button downs. I love that they are 100 percent pure untreated cotton, because they get softer and more comfortable with each wash. I do not mind the wrinkles as I steam them away with a device.

The only negatives I see in these pants which prevent me rating it 5 stars is the thin and flimsy waistband and low quality zipper. I am aware that they shrink, so I purchased a size larger as many here have recommended.

Other than that, these are a great pair of natural cotton pants which I hope will last me a long time.

I have been painting for 20+years and have always used Dickies for my uniform. I am happy with there overall quality but it seems like every year or so the same style of pants will change how they fit.

The majority of the time I have to buy a size up from my usual to account for shrinkage. I received my usual size I always get and washed them to shrink them. Once I tried them on out of the dryer the were still a size to big in waist on length.

It’s a battle with Dickies to figure out how the same pants will fit next time I out purchase them. Now I have a pair of painters pants that I cannot wear. I’m nervous to order another pair with alternate size because they may once again not fit correctly.

I have used Dickie Whites for years and was tired of the knees tearing before the pants were well used. I like the double knee for that reason. The tool pockets on the sides are a little smaller than Dickies and the front pockets are a little smaller.

If those designs were changed they would be perfect. Also I noticed the material is softer, I like.

Pants are a bit thin but still good quality fabric and stitching. Stitching was a little stringy but i clipped them and haven’t had any issues thus far. I’m primarily a drywall finisher so I put work clothes through hell, so far they haven’t disappointed.

Will buy 5 more pairs to cut into shorts around july. Fit was as described.

This is my first order, so I need to try them out first before giving an opinion.

They’re the classic Carhartts — thick canvas, loose-fitting, mid-to-high-waisted, and with all the pockets you could dream of. Only two issues: 1. They only have 5 belt loops. (Two at the front, two at the side, and one at the back.

) It really needs two more loops at the back — when pants sag, that’s where they sag. I’m sure it would only cost 75 cents more per pair for this improvement. 2. Why doesn’t Carhartt make a suitable version of these for women? I’ve tried Carhartt’s “women’s” version of these pants and a few others; they’re low-rise, made of thinner canvas, and aren’t truly loose-fit.

Carhartt: please just make these exact pants with a more pronounced wait-to-hip ratio. No smaller pockets, no different fabric — just like this, with one slight difference. Your women customers would thank you.

In the meantime, I’m taking these to a tailor to take in the waistband.

Honestly…not a fan! Ordered my normal size for waist and inseam. Inseam was correct but waist was tighter than I anticipated. I was expecting a little stretch but didn’t get it. The construction themselves was very uncomfortable.

The crotch was not all that roomy and hindered movement. I initially thought it was due to the pants being brand new and the fabric being stiff but multiple hard labor shifts and washes and still just as uncomfortable as out of the bag new.

I had high hopes because while the pants from Duluth are absolutely superb, they are pricey, so I was hoping for similar quality at a better price point. My hopes were shattered rather quickly. In the interest of helping others who may be on the fence, I do not recommend these pants to anyone nor will I.

The advice would be, your mileage may vary but I will continue to spend the money as the more expensive option just seems to be a better fit.

Purchased these for my spouse to wear at work because the technician’s are required to wear all black. Because he kneels a lot, I was tired of repairing the knees with patches, so we purchased these.

He’s also rather fashion conscious and liked the idea of a skinny fit pant rather than cargos. He claims that while they do look more respectable for his job, and they are comfortable when standing and walking, they don’t have much flex or give when it comes to kneeling on the floor.

This may change as he wears them in however. His biggest complaint however, is the “cellphone pocket”, which is useless because it’s on the back of the knee (right where you bend), and it’s too small for a modern smartphone.

He’s tried it with a Samsung S5 with OtterBox and it barely fits, then used a friends Samsung S8, and it sticks out 1/2″. Also, when you go to kneel, the pocket forces the phone out and puts strain on the screen (he claims it feels like the phone is trying to bend).

He suggests that the pocket should be located further up the thigh. The cellphone pocket is one of the reasons we purchased these, and he’s disappointed that he can’t use it properly. NOTE: if you’re thinking of purchasing skinny pants, make sure you purchase a leg length 1″ shorter so it doesn’t bunch badly at your shoes.

These pants will also fit lower on the hips, so your usual waist measurement may not be correct.

A stone mason friend of mine turned me on to these pants. As a carpenter who is of normal BMI, the choices for slim fit work pants are lean. Most competitor models have way too much fabric in the legs, which gets bunched up under knee pads, causes overheating and frankly get in the way.

I need the protection of long pants, but not the volume of massive pant legs. The cotton/poly blend with a hint of spandex renders the wear a comfortable lightness. They don’t heat up as much as other big name brand double knee work pant.

And the double knee is a welcome addition to a pant like this for any tradesman. Expect them to wear out in the similar time and places as the competitor. But they seem durable for carpentry. And you will not likely get thermals under these.

Keep the competitor’s pants around for that. The Dickies skinny straight is in a class by itself for the time being. I would call these 3 season pants. I’ll break out the shorts on a 80 degree day, but up until then, I’m comfortable in the skinny straight.

By the way, they run true to size, with a surprising bit of give. With only one caveat, they are a tad bit tight below the knee. Perhaps there’s a wee bit more of a middle ground for some room in that area re the next run of these pants.

Nobody wants to look like a hipster on the job site. I bought 2 more pair when they were on sale. And as long my original pair wear as they have been, I won’t need anymore for a while. These are pants i can endorse.

The most comfortable pants I own, extremely durable, great for skateboarding. Feel much better than any other pair of skinny pants I’ve felt, better than any other Dickies, and MILES beyond any pair of jeans.

(Granted I hate jeans though. ) Highly recommend.

These pants are comfortable and wife thinks they look good on me. (Not as good as my old pairs according to her) Regular fit double knee grey. Every summer for the past twenty years when it gets hot the jeans go away and dickies take over.

Every field service job I go on through winter, where looking professional and being functional matters. Dickies double knee regular fit grey. Why would you discontinue grey and force us into buying stretchy waist or skinny pants or pants made outa ducks.

There is no possible way that we were not buying enough of them. I see all my brothers & sisters in numerous trades have these as their go-to pant. Disregarding us is a mistake. Only kitchen staff and engineers buy black/navy double knees! We help build the brand.

Bought these specifically for working around the yard. The double-knee is a bonus, just odd looking. Sewing these on the inside would look more normal, but is probably more difficult to manufacture. Love the stretch waist and fabric, very comfortable to move around in.

I will say the fabric is much thinner than I was expecting, I wonder how they will hold up over time? All in all, a good fit for what I was looking for. These were on sale as a part of the Blains “jeans event”, so the price was great too.

Only complaint there is that as is usually the case, my store (Elgin) had none of this item in any size. This store is under-stocked and seems like the step-child in the chain. Having to drive another 25 miles to pick these up, or pay for shipping is not a good deal.

I got these pants for work wear and casual wear. I like the flex material and side pocket. I feel like they are well made and like the re-enforced seams. The deep pockets are nice also. However the upper legs on these pants are like skinny jeans.

I usually wear a size 31×32 and ordered a 32×32 and the legs are too tight to wear and be comfortable. I also would like to see a pocket on the left leg also. The fit was very disappointing and I just gave them to my son instead of going through a return process.

They seam to fit him fine, but he has much skinnier legs. I am 5’9” and around 165# with an athletic build. But again normal paints fit fine in a 31×32. The ordering process was easy but after a week of not hearing about the shipping I called Dickies and was told that the order was stuck in the computer under processing.

So it ended up taking almost 2 weeks to get the pants, which was also a little disappointing. I do understand that things happen and will still order from Dickies. If you have normal size to large legs expect a tight fit in the legs.

Amazingly the postman arrived with these 5 minutes before I laid a new subfloor on my upstairs landing. They were brilliant – good and durable, comfortable (especially on the knees) and lots of pockets for tools, all for an incredibly reasonable price.

I highly recommend! Tip – I would say the waist size fits a little tight; I’m a 30” in jeans but a 32” in these fits snug.

I didn’t expect such good quality for the price but they do come quite small. I had to exchange for a larger size but they are still small. I have rated five stars even though they don’t fit because of the quality.

I’ll loose an inch or so and they’ll be fine!.

Had several pairs of these over last few years. Been impressed with the quality and fit. Plenty of pockets and they take a fair hammering with husbands workload.

Got these when they were on offer, so an even better price. Got enough pockets & appear well stitched together. Sizing was spot on with my other trouser sizes (some brands can be a bit either way). Unlike another pair of Dickies that i had, these have no zipped pockets, big bonus so you don’t end up scratching wooden or vinyl floors when laying down on the job.

Thing to note are the kneepad pockets load from the bottom, I always find that harder than those that load from the top.

I ordered 2 pairs of these to replace my current work trousers. The quality for the price is exceptional, I would have given a full 5 stars if it wasn’t for the following few gripes. They only come in black & I would have preferred dark blue, The pockets are not deep enough so my Samsung normal S10 phone fits in the special phone pocket but sticks out of the top so it’s likely to fall out.

The area of my testicles is a little tight and I’m just an average size guy. I would definitely recommend and purchase again.

As work trousers they are brilliant. The phone pocket is actually big enough for a iPhone X with a case on it. If you work with vehicles theres no fear of scratching panels with zips, as the pockets are all Velcro.

Theyre comfortable, hard wearing and excellent value.

I work in the autobody industry and am constantly up anf down on and off my knees all day. I found these pants and was hesitant to spend the money, but wanted to use some type of knee protection. I bought the pants 5/21 and waited for them to arrive.

I ordered 5 pair for a total of over 300 dollars and when they arrived 1 pair had no knee pads. I was told they could not jist send the pads and that I would have to return the 1 pair and wait for a new pair.

Now not even a year later they have all shrunken and are very tight. I have always washed them on cold and dried on low heat as instructed. Also 2 or 3 of my pairs have torn and ripped. Ome pair blew out right below the zipper and are no longer wearable.

I know they are the correct size because they fit great when they first arrived. Now I have to drop more money on pants not even a year later.

Pants are well made and will hold up,but you have to be aware that the knee pads are only held in by little velcro circles that are glued in. The knee pads will come out during activity so. sew the velcro in and the pads will be alright.

For the price you cant complain i ordered 2 pair medium for warm weather and large to wear as a with layers in the cold.

The fit of these is a bit strange but other than that they are good quality. The inseam and length are perfect, they just almost come up to my belly button at the waist. Just feels like I’m wearing tactical “mom jeans”.

I ordered two pairs. I tried on one and they were great!good fit and very comfortable. Wore them to work for two days and busted out the second pair. They were different. Stiffer fabric, not as much stretch, and way looser fit especially in the crotch which I do not like.

I closely compared the two and they are just made slightly different and from different countries. One made in Bangladesh, the other in China. I don not think ill order these again due to the fact that im not sure what ill be getting.

Bangladesh made pair=5 stars, China made pair=2 stars. 1 star overall due to inconsistencies in product.

I have been wearing Carhartt pants for many years until recently. The fit just isn’t the same any more so I started looking around and discovered Walls at a local retailer. I tried a pair and they were amazing.

Same durable double knees and fabric but MUCH better quality and fit overall. The flexible waist band is key. Love the hidden pocket inside the front pocket too. I went out and bought four more pairs immediately and won’t look back.

Just picked up 2 pair of Ditchdiggers over the weekend. I love everything about them so far, but I’d like to see one addition. I’m a maintenance technician by trade and these fit the bill with one exception.

I don’t anywhere without 2 things. My tactical flashlight, and my lockback knife. Both have pocket clips on them and both are about 5″ long. I used to buy Duluth Flex carpenter pants but the thinner single knees are the first thing to go.

I usually have my flashlight in my right front pocket, and my knife was clipped in to the wide, flat, tape measure loop sewn on the right leg. I slip reading glasses into the other leg pocket. If these pants had a flat loop or maybe a 5″X2″ straight cut pocket on either leg really, next to the front pocket, they’d be perfect for me.

Great all around pants. I have hiked, rock climbed and worn them out on the town. They are great for casual dress because of the more tapered leg and clean look. They look better than all the synthetic pants you can by at climbing stores for wearing around town.

They are as versatile as most other pants you’ll find at REI, but will never appear on those lists. Well kept secret at half the price of other pricey outdoor brands. They feel great from the start, but get even softer over time and hold up well.

They are a mid weight pant but the fit well so you aren’t dragging material. They also are noisy like synthetic nylon pants. In really hot weather they can be a little warm, but most of the year they are fantastic.

I wear a 33×32 and previous versions had a leg that was a little too skinny in the lower waist sizes, but Carhartt seems to have resolved that issue now and they are true straight leg not too skinny.

Most people probaly see these as work pants, but Carhartt should market these to the Outdoor crowd and add more colors like their relaxed line has. Can’t be happier with these. Don’t quit making them!.

I have gotten used to wearing a tighter more narrow leg fit and so it took a day of wearing to adjust to this relaxed fit. On a recent month long trip to a cooler than average Barcelona my 79 year old legs were cold and I had to wear long Johns to be comfortable.

These pants are comfortable outside without being hot inside. I like the deep pockets and especially the side pocket for my phone. All around good buy at a great price. Unfortunately I followed the online size advice and bought inseam two inches longer than normal and had to have shortened.

Bought 34/34 and should have bought 34/32, my normal size. (5. 11/185 lbs).

Got first key brand pant in retail store and my husband loved them but wore them out. They were literally shredded. They did last a very long time all things considered. I couldnt remember where i bought them so much easier to order online.

Double knee pants are good for flooring installer like my husband.

Look protective for construction

Just amazing trousers. Very comfy, robust. Good temperature control. Fit exactly to measurements so be sure to measure your waist. Then measure again to be certain. No stretch in the waistband but stretch around everywhere you need them to move around easily.

I rarely wright reviews unless the product is exceptional. I had high expectations for these pants and honestly these pants are beyond awesome. Super comfy, soft to the touch with a more streamline cut and tough as nails.

I use them for logging. Logging beats the heck out of you, your equipment and clothing. These pants stand up to the abuse I put them through with all day comfort. These pants are also super comfy to wear as every day wear or walking through the woods and tough enough to walk through the blackberry briars.

The pants fit well. A bit warm if you are inside most of the time ( i work in kitchens). But i like the thickness and lay of the fabric. Some of the minor esthetics ( printed info in the pockets) have warn off in a few weeks.

But this dose not take away from the form and function of the pants. Good color hold so far, i can not see any fading yet. My concern after my last “tough pants” were the pocket edges, where i clip my knife.

These pants are holding up in far superior fashion. Would definitely buy again.

been purchasing these for a couple years now, definitely my goto pants, 6 pair now. carpenter here, building movie/TV sets. for me it’s the stretch in the waist, very comfortable with tool belt and the double knee for floor work is perfect, would definitely recommend, was a carhartt pants guy, NO MORE!! these are way better.

The best work trousers available ,comfortable not to hot or cold to work in and super tough material,there is none better.

Excellent pair of painters trousers, roomy, kneepad slots and so many really useful pockets (even one for my scraper and another for my phone). Cannot rate these highly enough and at a decent price too.

Just purchased these trousers. Had previously bought. Very happy with the quality. I do however have to take the length up a few inches as they only do regular leg not short but not a problem as the trousers are good quality.

Very poor quality, which is pretty much the case with everything ProDec produce. Had to return them twice because they ripped along the stitching where the pockets are sewn on, after a few days.

I ordered these as well as the “All Season Hemp Canvas” pant both in a size 6, Short. These fit a full size too big, I would exchange them but I like the fit of the straight legs and wouldn’t want them tighter – my thighs are 21 inches, so i’ll have to return.

I’m a vegetable farmer and move around all day so I really like the concept of the adjustable waist buckle, but ideally I’d want it to be buttons like the All Season pant for easier repair. these are work pants after all! And I really wish these were High Waisted, they are about 2.

5 inches away from there! I like a Higher Waist so that when i’m working I don’t have a waist band or a belt digging into my hips (is that just me? because everyone in workwear seems to design for a hip central fit).

But I do love the feel of the fabric, durable yet soft, and stretches in all the right places. Please use this fabric to make a higher waisted version!.

The pants look the same in person as they appear online. There were no surprises with the colour or texture of the fabric. I ordered both colours. The fit is as expected from the size chart. The fabric quality is stiff, not stretchy, and loosens up a bit with wear.

I have thick legs/knees and a comparatively smaller waist (W: 29″, H:40″) and the size 10T legs are roomy enough without being tight around the knees. I can crouch and kneel without the pants cutting in behind my knees.

There is a significant gap and a bit more bunching at the waist than I was hoping for. The cinch/buckle design keeps the waist tight enough that no belt is required, but I’ll have to deal with grit and pine needles dropping in through the waist gap.

I don’t think I could have sized down to get a smaller waist, as the 8 would likely have been too tight around my hips and bum. The back pockets are unique but functional. The pants look a touch bulky, but they are work pants after all.

I found the double front knee pockets to be too short when I was actually kneeled down. The dirt marks from kneeling fell at the bottom hem of the double front rendering the knee pad pockets a bit useless (still good for brush protection).

The Tall 34″ inseam is great with slight pooling. The cuffs don’t get caught on the tops of my boots when moving around. Overall I’m comfortable in these pants during a days work. I barely have to make any adjustments and don’t have to continually pull them up or down throughout the day.

As an electrician doing industrial and commercial work in NYC am writing this because I never want to see these pants disappear from the market or be reshaped. To all the ladies complaining about the fit and size please stop.

THESE ARE WORK PANTS I’ve been a 12s all my life and I purchased a 12s which fits perfectly. In the age of skinny slim jeans, I upsize a lot of pants because they fit everywhere except my hips, if you’re more flat it makes sense that you would have to downsize two sizes on a relaxed fitting pant.

So If you had to buy smaller sizes but they still FIT you, as in your butt fits in the pants and there are no gaps, it’s NOT a problem, it is the result of company actually measuring women and not mannequins for their fit test (seriously that’s how most company shape clothes).

I don’t want patagonia to downsize these pants because that means I can still buy size 14 for winter if I need to layer them up, like anyone that actually uses them for work will come winter time, cause we work outside.

And again THESE ARE WORK PANTS they should be catering to women doing hauling and heavy lifting not sitting in an office, 90% of women’s clothes do that already. Women in my line of work are underserved, and they develop quads, calves and glutes because it’s physically impossible to do the job being a yogi size 2.

I am so happy to have these pants after years of being a Patagonia jacket and bag consumer. I’ve historically settled for oversized cheap men’s pants for work, the practical and necessary pockets are a must, but it feels soooo nice to not look like a sack of potatoes anymore (for the record if you are flat, the women’s Carharts will work great for you).

The gap control in the back is great, also the waist sits in a comfortable position (not so high it digs into you when you bend). The material is amazing, super durable, breathable, yet they feel lighter than plain canvas.

If you’re old enough to remember that satisfaction of breaking in new jeans (back when denim was thick enough it lasted you a few years) you’re gonna love these. You’ll get that best friend feel after a week or two, they move really well too.

One of the reasons the material and fit are so important to me and in work is cause loose cloth are a hazard around power tools but stretch material will ignite into flames in a heartbeat, so I’m ecstatic to have these, will probably take them hiking and climbing too, they might be heavier but can take the beating (how about some hemp trail pants eh?) I do wish the pockets were a tiny bit bigger and a side mid knee sleeve for pencil or cell phones would be nice (they put in the men’s jeans version, would so love that for woman please, the jeans too).

I’m 5’5″ 30″ inseam 42″ hip 32″ waist sidebar: I only wish the work tops had taken in account the hips they obviously figured out we have. The shirts are long (as they should be for work) but too narrow for the hip and too wide for the waist.

The double knees are an absolute must have! I have the recycled one and its great! In the beginning it feels a bit weird but after one skate session it feels awesome. Many pockets and the material on this is insane! I can only recommend getting a pair of those!.

I been looking for work pants for along time and the bulwark brand always fit me the best so I ordered 5 pairs online. I got them with in 5 days and thy fit me very well and I’m a big a tall male. I will e ordering more in the future.

One of the worst things about being a tall guy is when you’re not a ‘big’ guy- these are the perfect cut if you’re lean, perfect slim, not skinny, but they don’t make you look like some 90’s rapper on the site.

Seemingly super tough too- as a finishing carpenter, I need some pants that will take some abuse up and down on my knees, hanging random tools off my pockets, but will still move with me. The real test will come when Canadian winter rolls around, but so far I am really really happy with my purchase, and I hope the 1620 crew will keep these available for years to come, they’re all I want to wear now.
