20 Best Water Additive For Cats Teeth (2023 Updated)

I read reviews on all the different types of dog oral care water additives. So I decided on this one based on the reviews. I only put a cap full in a large bowl of water, like a 24oz. -32oz. sized bowl.

My dogs would not drink the water. They walked up to the bowl, smelled it and walked away. I watched this all day and finally rinsed the bowl and put water without the capful of dental rinse and they drank the water.

They drank a lot because they wouldn’t drink any early that day. I was heartbroken that I had made them go without water all day. I guess I should have put a bowl of “just water” and a bowl of water with the dental solution and given them the option.

It says that it’s odorless, but apparently it’s not. So I wouldn’t waste your money on this product, or any of the oral additives for that matter. They all seem to have an odor regardless of what the company says about the product.

I’m sad it didn’t work. I worry about my dogs teeth, but they won’t let me brush them. Hope this review helps.

My cat had inflamed gums around one tooth, and I decided to try this product at the recommendation of my sister. Her cat had completely overcome its inflamed gums after she added Oxyfresh to its water dish for a few weeks.

I discovered that there was no info regarding the temperature of the water, if the product’s action/efficacy remained if water was flavored with broth etc, or if the oxyfresh water could be mixed up in micro doses for small amounts added to the wet cat food.

Some cats (like mine) will detect the flavor and will not otherwise drink the product. So far, I am continuing with hopes for improvement in the coming weeks. This is a possible pet dental healthcare product for those who can not brush their pet’s teeth with a toothbrush.

A few months ago I noticed that my Bengal cat had some stinky breath and although he lets me groom him in many ways without much fuss (ie, cleaning his eye boogers, cleaning his butt, wiping him down with a warm wash cloth and brushing him), he refuses to let me brush his teeth.

I’ve tried finger brushes with and without pet safe toothpaste and even tried a regular small headed toothbrush (which is better than the finger ones in my opinion) but still all he wanted to do was bite it or brush against it.

When I looked for finger brushes I came across this gem and figured why not. He is also a cancer survivor, having been in clinical remission for 6 months, so his oral health is even more important. My boy drinks a lot of water anyway but loves his water even more it seems.

There is no odor and it says no flavor but there’s something about it that he likes. Anything to get pets to drink more water is great but added bonus it keeps their mouths and teeth clean. His stinky breath is a thing of the past and his well check at the vet showed no issues with some minor plaque.

Considering he is just about 3 years old and I have had him 2 years with no prior cleanings, I am very happy keeping this product going for his life span. Thank you to the inventors of this product!.

My rescue dog came to my household with horrendous tartar buildup. She’s only 2, and her vet told me she’ll likely need a cleaning very soon. In an attempt to delay a cleaning for a few more years, I bought this product and have been using it in her water daily for a month now combined with brushing every two days.

The reviews mentioning their pets’ GI issues made me nervous, but I haven’t seen stomach any issues with my pup. However given the amount of reviews mentioning sick pets, I still view this as an extreme and short-term solution to get my pup’s tartar under control to a point where regular brushing can then take over.

****I wish I had taken a before picture, but I was skeptical of this product and didn’t bother. **** Tartar buildup was turning black around the gum line of my dog’s upper canines, but after a month it’s now a very light brown.

Parts of the tartar along the gum line have even chipped away leaving a clean tooth enamel behind. I’ll be honest that the “chips” originally freaked me out because I thought her tooth was damaged since there’s a noticeable ridge from the clean tooth to where there’s still tartar.

After gently scraping some remaining tartar near the “chipped” area with my finger nail, I watched in amazement and a few more chunks of tartar rubbed right off her tooth, leaving a smooth tooth enamel behind.

There’s still some tartar build up left to go, but I’m amazed at the progress so far.

I brush my dog’s teeth every day like a crazy person, so they are in pretty good shape, but recently I noticed his breath had started to smell bad. The vet said she didn’t see anything wrong with his teeth, so I decided to try this to reduce the smell.

I picked it because it’s accepted by VOHC and I’ve liked other products by this brand. I noticed a big difference in his breath within a day or so. Wish such fast results, I assume the improvement in breath is caused by killing bacteria in the mouth that cause bad breath rather than magically reversing all tooth decay in a couple days.

It is not a substitute for brushing, but it has certainly made his breath smell much better, and I hope it will provide some small benefit to the back teeth that are harder to reach with the toothbrush.

The packaging is a bit odd, but it works. The cap is like a shampoo cap; you can push on one side and the other side opens, but the instructions tell you to leave that closed and instead remove the cap completely and use it as a measuring spoon.

I ordered 2 bottles. When they arrived, I tore off the sealed top. The next thing I found was the top on the bottle which was IMPOSSIBLE for me to open! I have arthritis in my hands, plus I lost permanent partial strength in one of my arms due to an injury.

The top of this bottle is ridiculously difficult to open for elderly people, people with arthritis in their hands, etc. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO NEED FOR THE KIND OF TOP THAT IS ON THIS BOTTLE BECAUSE THE TOP IS ALREADY SEALED TO PROTECT THE PRODUCT.

THIS LID IS EXCESSIVE. I actually had to take the bottles to one of my male neighbors and ask him to open them. He even had some difficultly with them. The top requires you to hold it in two places and then turn it in a certain direction while holding it in those two places.

ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!! I love the product itself, but the packaging has got to be revamped to make it easier for elderly people and people with arthritis in their hands, etc. I give the packaging of this product a ZERO rating!.

We have a cat with razor sharp teeth who likes to bite and my wife hd to go to the MD a couple of times to get shots to kill the infected bite area. In the past we had used the product to get rid of prior cats bad breath which is caused by mouth bacteria so I figured putting the product in our new cats water would kill the bacteria in her mouth and keep the bite wounds clean enough that all we had to do was wash the wound with a little hydrogen peroxide and avoid MD visits.

The plan worked as planned and no bite infections in the last 3 years. Cats teeth are still sharp as needles and a light mouth grab still draws a little blood but no infections.

I was skeptical when I first started using this product. Now after 3 weeks both boys teeth are whiter, their gums look healthier and though still doggie their breath is much better. Do recommend some kind of dispenser for the gallon jug.

Getting better at pouring it into a measuring cup without as much spill. Neither dog hesitates at drinking the mixture and both guys are pickie about what you put in front of them. I’d buy it again.

I recently purchased this product for my boy Kirby. Hes still a young puppy but brushing his teeth was out of the question. He is not a huge fan of things messing around in his mouth. We bought it in hopes of curving any potential bad breath and plaque tartar build up.

We have been using it for about 3 weeks and all the bad breath I had noticed is gone! There’s no issues with his stinkyness. Which is saying a lot as he was a stray when we got him so his background is completely a mystery.

I recommend it for anyone who has dogs who are not a fan of things being stuffed in their mouth and scared of those over the counter dental chews that seem like a good idea. Its simply added to the water and they do not even notice a difference.

It also works for cats!.

I have a little Maltipoo that will be 9 yrs old. She has to have a dental cleaning every year as her tartar and breath is horrible. Her Vet introduced me to Vetradent and I have religously used it now for about 5 months and her breath is now non-existing and the tartar that had build up since her last cleaning has gotten a very light yellow and seems to be softening.

She is due for a cleaning next month and I hope to be able to keep her mostly tartar free after that. By the way, she did not detect a difference in her water. I can highly recommend this product!.

I added it to my dogs water and she immediately started drinking excessively which was very different than normal. I stopped using it and 2 days later she was back to drinking normally. It does have a slightly salty taste to it so I’m thinking it caused dry mouth and increased thirst.

My other shih tzu wasn’t bothered by it but each dog I’d different.

I can’t speak to whether my dog’s teeth made much progress, but I do want to warn that he started having bladder problems as soon as we put this in his water. He would need to pee so suddenly that he couldn’t even hold it as he went down stairs.

And he’s a VERY well potty-trained dog. And as soon as we stopped using it, his accidents stopped. Only noticed the pattern, but I did want to warn others.

No bad breath anymore from my cats. No taste for them. Just pour 1 capful in water bowl. Very easy to use. Love it. Been using it for years. One bottle lasts a very long time. Definitely one of those things you rebuy over and over.

Have a 16 yr old Chihuahua/Boston Terrier mix & 15 yr old Blue Heeler. Began using YEARS ago due to small dog bad breath & it’s IMPOSSIBLE to brush her teeth. The vet got upset trying to remove a pine cone shell from between her teeth needing a male tech to wrap her in a blanket to help.

Of course we no it’s my fault allowing her tantrums to cause me to jerk away but it’s already done so stuck with it. The Heeler doesn’t chew anything which includes teeth cleaning products which require CHEWING so her teeth & gums get no help from these products.

I attempt to brush her teeth every few weeks but even at 15 her activity level is still pretty high & holding still isn’t part of her breeds characteristics. This product has saved my pets gums, teeth & in the long run their health.

They had their teeth cleaned once, in 2020 & had no gum disease so never lost a tooth. Both rec’d excellent dental report from vet when their teeth were cleaned. I can only believe it’s all because of this product.

Clean teeth & fresh breath! Exactly what it’s supposed to do ! Two things, it foams up if mixed aggressively but it does have BAKING SODA in it so it’s to be expected & settles pretty fast. Two, if it’s run thru a filter system ur filtering out the very chemicals that’s in it ur paying for.

WHY? Bottom line it’s safe & our dogs don’t seem to notice it. I am able to allow them in my bed since their breath is clean as are they with regular grooming. Happy life with our furbabies!!! Our dogs have no odor to their breath from the first week we began using Arm & Hammer Dental.

I tried many times to use this but my dogs simply will NOT drink the water because when I mix this in, it makes the water kind of foamy. At first, I thought it would be like the foam on a beer that eventually settles but this did not ever settle, even after 2 hours.

I figured my 16-year-old, 75 lb. mutt would probably never come around since he’s kind of picky but I thought the 100 lb. Labradane would drink it eventually since he’s a toilet sipper but nope; apparently the toilet water is preferable to a cold bowl of water mixed with this stuff for my guys.

Such a bummer.

I’m not sure how I feel about this product. I used it for a couple weeks and didn’t see too much of a difference. I have a cat water fountain that I put it in and it turned the water moldy and the filter was black.

Even though the fountain is constantly running water?? I also have a 5 gallon gravity water bowl and it make the water in that super moldy as well. From the comments and reviews I’ve read I really would like to use this product longer to see if it has an effect but I’m not sure how to go about that without dumping all the water in the bowls daily I feel like it is such a waste of water and product! However, all 3 of my pets didn’t notice it in the water and we had no GI issues from it either.

Any help would be appreciated regarding the moldy water issue. Anyone else having this problem??.

I bought this a while back. paid for one, got the other free due to a mishap. The bottle I received first leaked on delivery before I even unwrapped it. The second seems to be sealed. who knows once I break the seal.

But it’ll probably never be opened because my Cat would rather dehydrate than touch this stuff; a few sips and done. You should see her chug when I dump this garbage out and replace with fresh water without the additive.

Supposedly “tasteless”, but my Cat definitely knows something is fishy. P gives 1 paw out of 5. Not recommend.

My elderly small dog with CHF is unable to be sedated for a teeth cleaning. Earlier I could get him to open his mouth for brushing. Not any more. His breathe had become so bad that when he would yawn, people in the room thought the baby had soiled his diaper.

That is no joke. After only a few weeks of using Oratene his breathe was no longer putrid. After less than 2 months, it isn’t minty fresh but the stink mouth is nearly gone! To me, that means the enzymes in Oratene have gotten rid of the bad bacteria.

And it’s Made in America. I would not have tried it if it was not!.

This water additive is fantastic. I have two Yorkies, and toy breeds have more vulnerable teeth which means they also get bad breath quicker. This water additive cleared up my younger Yorkie’s bad breath in a week, in addition to weekly brushing.

I also recommend the Therabreath pet breath spray for use after brushing your dog or cat’s teeth.

After using this product I highly recommend, does exactly as it says, my dog’s mouth has never been healthier. Definitely give this product a try !!

Therabreath brand mouthwash is amazing stuff! It’s a little high priced, but it works better than any product I’ve ever tried. My daughter has issues with severe halitosis and this is the only product that completely gets rid of the breath odor.

After spending over $4000. 00 on our Pug’s teeth, we had to hand her over to Pug Rescue to complete the next $4-5,000. 00 worth of dental care and find her a new home. Now, we use a plaque reducing spray as well as Oratene in their water, for our other two Pugs.

We have noticed a real reduction in plaque, as well as better gum health. When they allow us to brush their teeth, we do so, but dental chews and anti-plaque spray are not an every hour event. Drinking water with Oratene is!.

I originally found out about Zymox water additive from a pet catalog. Their price plus shipping was almost double what I payed on Ebay for the exact same thing. I read the information about the product, and it is supposed to be one of the best.

We have a male retired show dog that for years we battled chronic infections in a lip fold on his lower jaw. As Pirate’s owners/breeders we want to give him a long confortable life in his retirement.

On a suggestion from a “puppy client” we tried the Biotene water additive to try to help maintain this American and Canadian Champion’s teeth as he is not a chewer of bones or other toys that might help keep his teeth clean and breath sweet.

Surprise to us not only did Pirate’s teeth look cleaner in a few weeks but his chronic lip infection cleared up. Now I recommend to my puppy families this simple method to help inprove their dogs’ oral health and use it for all my own seven dogs They currently shown dogs need the edge of clean teeth and the retired show dogs keep their mouths cleaner and sweet smelling.

I bought this product for my dogs because of their breath. I had previously tried the chewing bones & similar, but it was a waste of money because they didn’t like them. This seemed simpler & it would also help with their hip & joints.

The first time I used it, I put it in their water feeder first & then added the water. This caused it to foam, but they still drank it without problems afterwards. When I refilled, I filled the bottle with the water & then poured the additive.

Result was no foam. They drink the water without any problems and their breath has definitely improved and I’ve also noticed their teeth are cleaner. I love this product and it’s worth the price.

My soon to be 9 year old has a new spring in his steps. I noticed the fresher breath right away. Tucker moving like a young man again took a good couple of weeks but it is definitely noticeable. We have 2 under 20lb miniature Australian Shepherds.

We fill up their water bowl 2 to 3 times a day as needed and put about 2 full capfuls in there. The ratio is more water than what the bottle suggests but it works. We haven’t always remembered to put it in their water but the change in Tucker getting up and down our bed is incredible.

We have taken his step stool away. He now jumps on the bench then the bed without missing a beat. We have been using this for a couple of months now and still have about a third of the bottle left. With consistent use and bigger dogs you may still get 2 months use out of each bottle.

Using this Fresh Dental Water Additive has done absolute wonders on my pets breath! I squeeze a few squirts in their water each time and fill it. The results? NO MORE BAD BREATH!! The natural ingredients in this bottle kills all the bad bacteria and removes plaque formation.

Useless. 4 cats won’t drink from their water with even a half dose in the bowl. It’s a huge bowl also. Complete waste of money. And my one cat really needed this. I went off other cat reviews and I’m really disappointed.

I solution bad breath! My Labrador Retriever (Gracie) had chronic bad breath and my veterinarian recommended Breathalyser. After simply adding it to drinking water Gracie’s breath was fresh and mouth clean.

I have a Jack Russell terrier and a Maltese. My JRT’s breath is FUNKY!! I have tried using doggie toothpaste and the Greenie type of treats as well as the Milk Bone dental bones and if it doesn’t taste like a steak , he isn’t interested.

My dogs are over ten years old now and I have not been great about their dental care in the past. Breath was stinky and offensive. After a week of using this Aquadent by Virbac the stink dissipated more and more over the next fews weeks.

Still using the same bottle, after a few months their teeth are whitening. I recommend storing half of it in the freezer or more. I used a dropper to add this to their water and I think I added contaminates back into the bottle with the dropper and wasted a lot of product.

I am buying my second bottle because my pitbulls wait for me to add it in to drink. My dogs love this stuff and it even seems like they drink more water with this minty flavor added in.
