20 Best Travel Fan For Sleeping (2023 Updated)

The Saxz fan that I’m replacing was charged by a usb cable and it’s battery simply couldn’t hold a charge any more. I found the size, price and aesthetic of this fan to be perfect for my needs. When it arrived I discovered that it runs off two alkaline D batteries.

Don’t get me wrong. There is nothing wrong with a battery operated fan. With fresh batteries this fan puts out a strong breeze I could feel 10 or so feet away. I’m not keeping the fan because I want a model with rechargeable battery/batteries.

I was looking for a small fan for my mid-summer car camping trips. I bought this one because it used D-sized batteries, a size which I already use in other camping applications. It is as advertised. I expect it will provide a subtle breeze in my tent,enough to sleep on sweltering evenings.

It is as far from robust as possible. To be clear: if the plastic was any thinner, it wouldn’t work. It will not take any type of abuse without damage. But for the price I will pack it carefully between uses and be careful while it is in use.

I hate to do this because the seller was outstanding w svc. but this fan is truly pathetic. It requires two D batteries, thus 3v but better current than AA etc but it has absolutely no force. Unless you live in an area, where you get no breeze, then you would understand how pathetic the air flow is.

Yes it is a quiet fan, but that is coupled with very little air flow as mentioned. All I needed this to do was push a slight amount of air in order to push cool air around the back of a wood burning, fireplace insert.

In short to push cool air approximately two and a half feet. Quite simply it doesnt measure up. If all you need it do is move air at your workplace desk, I have to say that it wouldnt be able to perform that meager job.

By the way, yes I tried multiple, new, D cell batteries and had the same poor results. Do yourself a favor and purchase a mini fan that uses standard AC or at worst shop diligently for a decent USB fan.

After all you cant do any worse at 1/3 of the price.

We use this fan in our bathroom. We live in S. Texas and we don’t have central air so there’s no cool air blowing in the bathroom, that’s why we bought this fan and it works great for creating a breeze in our small bathroom.

It’s relatively quiet and blows a lot of air for its size. We use this fan several times a day, every day. Bought this fan over 5 years ago, maybe 6 or 7 ?, and it’s still going strong. After the first two years of use it didn’t want to turn on unless I helped it by giving the blade a little push.

I took it apart, very easy to do, and oiled the bearings at the ends of the motor with some household machine oil and it worked like new again. Just recently it wouldn’t turn on again and when I checked it out the motor was still spinning freely and the power adapter was still sending power to the fan, but the problem was the on/off switch had failed.

A $2 toggle switch from the hardware store fixed that. If you’re just buying this fan for occasional use it will probably last you a long, long time. We’re really surprised at how long we’ve had this fan because we use it so much.

All the moisture in the bathroom from the shower doesn’t seem to bother it either. I don’t think this fan would do much in a large room, but in a small room, in a tent or as a desk fan it’s more than enough.

This is a very nice, attractive fan that works well and creates a good breeze. It is versatile because it will run on electricity, on the internal battery that will recharge itself, or on regular batteries you can load into the base of the fan.

The fan is very lightweight without the batteries, but quite heavy with them. My issues: the control switch on the side is very difficult to switch on and off. It is virtually impossible to turn the fan on and off without picking the fan up, turning the fan so the edge with the switch is facing you, and then using a fingernail to slide the switch to the needed position.

The second issue with this fan, for me, but maybe not for you, is that if you turn off the power source feeding the fan while it is switched “on” it will automatically switch to battery power and continue to run.

In order to turn the fan “off” you must manually slide the switch from the “on” to the “off” position. Since it is designed to continue to run when there is no electrical power (for example, during a power failure) I can understand why it works this way.

This function makes it inconvenient for MY purposes because I want to turn off the fan using a remote control wall switch (so I don’t have to get up and manually turn it on and off). Overall a good fan and a nice breeze.

Depending on your purposes, a few potential design flaws.

Notice there is only one review telling you the battery compartment is difficult to close, hard to align the tiny grooves. This is important because I bought 3 fans, different venders and all 3 do not have a shut off button.

You have to unscrew it to turn it off. If these reviews are truthful why doesn’t anyone mention this big pain??? The two stars are for good wind.

This was bought for camping, but it has been used in so many situations. We bring it on picnics and place it near the table for a nice breeze, and it also discourages flies at the table! We have brought it to the beach and placed it on top of a cooler – sometimes the ocean breeze isn’t enough.

I purchased this fan so that I would have air movement at night should AC power be lost. I used it recently to see how long the batteries would last. but first, I should tell about the batteries used.

Because the fan requires 6 “D” cell batteries, I needed to load it with “AA” to “D” conversion adapters. So in essence, it took 18 L-Ion “AA” batteries (3 for each adapter). The storage capacity of this battery arrangement is a fair amount less than what would be available if good quality alkaline “D” cells were used.

With that said, The fan worked acceptable on high speed all night, about 8 hours. It also was still working after the second night, but at greatly diminished fan speed. Even with a full charge on the batteries, the fan turned about 20% faster when powered by AC.

Still, even with the power limitations I used, I found the fan to be very adequate for my purposes. My test was during an out of town trip. I found that the fan took little space in the car. Sooooo. In addition to being a good emergency fan, I found, as a bonus, that it is a great travel fan as well!.

We had a power outage in northeast louisiana from hurricane. Our neighbors went to stay with their daughter who had power, & loaned use these fans. My snoring, hot natured dad was able to sleep through the night & didnt disturb my mom by readjusting himself or waking up from a sound sleep.

I was so leery about purchasing this item tgat I actually waited till someone I knew and trusted was using one. They swore by it and the next day it was delivered. I had purchased this not for myself but for a friend for her birthday as she suffered from heat stroke.

Her birthday is in November but I gave it to her so she could enjoy being outside and puttering in her garden. It’s a big hit, thinking of ordering one for myself now. It is so lightweight you’d never worry about it being too heavy.

The noise isn’t bad at all and you can enjoy a book with this on as it won’t distract you. The battery life is like 6 to 8 hours depending on the speed you want to run it. Running it oh high speed will use the battery faster than using low speed.

Hair WILL NEVER get caught. There are no blades to this device that hair could catch on. I’m sure there are more positives but until it gets used more and all the nuances discovered this is it for now!.

This fan is way cool, in more ways then 1 :)! The blades are made of fabric, nope you didn’t read that wrong fabric! You can stick your hand in it every way you can think possible and it will never hurt you! Puts off lots of air on high less air on low.

Some people make comments that this was not a good at work desk fan well I’m here to tell you it’s the best desk fan I’ve ever had in my office! Not only is it my favorite color, it doesn’t hurt your fingers are hand! Most importantly it puts off a lot of air and that’s what I got it for!.

I am using it on my office desk. The airflow is quite good, and it is very quiet. It is a little strange not being able to see the cloth “blades” turning, and it often hits my hands when I adjust the direction, etc.

The is the second Zippi fan that I own, and they are GREAT. They are definitely “personal” fans; the breeze created probably only reaches about 6 ft from the fan (if that). But they are perfect for on your desk at work (SUPER QUIET), or next to your bed at night.

And every time I bump into it and get slapped by the soft, fabric blades, I laugh. What’s not to love! I would like to buy one of these for everyone I know. They fold down small for easy storage too.

I’m loving my new Sharper Image Go 4 Rechargeable USB Fan. Very nice style, black with orange accents. Super easy to use, one button push control, and it was charged and ready right out of the box. Not heavy and easy to hold.

Built in batteries charge back up in 3 hours with 7 hours of battery life on low. My daughter loves it, no more complaints on stuffy days. I would definitely recommend, it’s a great quality portable fan with awesome results.

I used this for the first time this weekend while at a baseball game! It’s so awesome! I can’t even write how long it lasts because I used it for a few hours total and it never died so it lasts a long time in my opinion! There is 3 settings and even the lowest setting puts out an awesome breeze! It’s pretty quiet and people were super jealous and wanted to know where I got it!.

I saw the reviews were mostly positive so I gave it a shot, guess I can’t be too mad at the price point but it blows about as strong as an 80 yr old smoker. Would not advise buying this fan if you actually need a fan….

I. E temperatures over 80 degrees…. Had it right on my face on the strongest mode (only 2 modes technically), and was begging for something more. Those fans from Disney world with the misters would do you better….

Would not recommend this fan for anyone planning to use it below the mason dixon line. Mind you it’s July… but it wasn’t even remotely cutting it… luckily I used it on a backyard camp trip cuz if I had taken it and been forced to use it overnight I would have been raging, and definitely not sleeping….

Probably is plenty of air for not hot places… but absolutely don’t waste your time if you’re anywhere above 80 degrees….

I was shocked that this little fan could put out such a powerful amount of blowing air. I was hesitant to buy it at first but figured I’d give it a shot. Very glad I did! It’s going to make summer camping a breeze!! Going to get another next week! The three light modes are a big plus as well and the fact that you can rotate the lights??!.

What a bright idea!! I Love it!! Has an optional plug but mine was missing the adapter for it. Going to be running on the batteries anyway so no biggie. Highly recommend!.

Battery compartment is fairly difficult to open, has tiny Philips head screws on springs. Once I put the six D batteries inside, I was unable to close the compartment door. I tried to operate it without batteries, just using the AC adapter cord but the fan didn’t operate that way.

Returned it.

Treva 10″ 2 speed fan is amazing, especially for small spaces. The fan stands alone comfortably with it’s compact design, with a built in carry handle, makes for easy move. Blades are sleek, with a cool design front & back of the fan.

The fan has 2 settings low & high, which are located on the side. Works very efficiently. This fan has kept me cool on these hot days. Great to move it around the house ( or wherever ) with you easily.

I especially like that the Treva fan can be either plugged in with the AC adapter ( also located on side with low & high settings) that comes with the fan or you can use 6 D batteries ( placed in back of the fan).

Makes it possible to take where there’s no outlet. Everyone in the house can benefit from the Treva fan. Prior to receiving the Treva 10″ 2 speed fan I was unaware of this product but I would definitely recommend it.

Since our utility company just can’t seem to keep our power on, even during a bright and sunny day, I decided to try some battery operated fans. We live in Florida, and it is just too hot without something to move the air around.

When Hurricane Michael came through, our power was out for about 3 days. I had ordered 2 of these fans online, and they arrived on the 3rd day of the power outage. Each fan takes 6 D batteries, so make sure you have plenty of those! The fans have a low and a high setting.

I kept it on high. You can’t wander too far from the fan and still be able to feel the air, but if you stay right in front of it, it’s a decent fan. It’s not as strong as an electric fan, but I didn’t expect it to be.

That’s why I got more than one. Since the power came back on, I keep one of these fans in the room where I work out, for some extra air during my workout. Again, I won’t feel it from across the room, but if I position it so it’s blowing straight at me, it does help.

These fans won’t wow you with their ability to blast air, but when battery operated fans are your only option, like when our power was out, they were a lifesaver.

I Can’t begin to explain how much I love this fan… So much so that I’ve bought multiple for gifts and I owned three of them. I bought this fan over a year ago and loved it so much I bought more as gifts. Every recipient loves it as well. I went online today to buy another one as I have dropped mine so many times (yet it still works perfectly fine) that I wanted another one as a backup in case I eventually kill it!! I noticed a few negative stars and first want to make it clear that I am just a customer; I have nothing to gain by endorsing this product, I just really love it a lot and want others to know how to use it as there are a few things that took me a moment to figure out.

1 – To turn it off, just press and hold down the speed button. It will shut down after a few seconds, no need to skim through all the speeds. 2 – If you want to know how much charge you have left while it’s off, just press the tiny button midway down the back (looks like a power button).

3 – It does not oscillate because it’s primarily a hand fan. 4 – It was not made to fan an area all day like a house fan. I have however used it on my desk for extended periods of time. Just plug the charging stand into your USB port on your computer or use a cell phone USB plug to plug it into an outlet to get continuous charge.

I absolutely LOVE my Brookstone 4 inch rechargeable fan!! It holds a charge for quite a long time and the varying speeds offer comfort in many different circumstances. It puts a lot of air out for such a small fan! I love it so much I bought a second one.

Great gifts for ladies of a certain age! I highly recommend this product. I dropped mine and the battery portion came off but I snapped it back together and it continues to work just fine. The little charging stand also affords you the ability to stand the fan up next to you if you choose not to hold it which is a great! It’s great to that you can use your cell phone or iPad charger to plug it into the wall using the USB end of the charger cord and not have to have yet another piece of equipment to drag around with you in your purse or whatever.

The fan itself works fine, but I got it because it sounded like it would charge by USB, and have a rechargeable battery, when neither is the case, and the USB port is to plug something else into for power! So that was not at all what I expected, and I returned it.

If that’s not what you need (we wanted it for camping), then it’s a very nice fan.

We live in SE Florida, so losing AC can be very uncomfortable during certain times of the year. I purchased one fan for emergencies but was skeptical due to it’s size and my concern over possibly needing to do frequent battery changes.

We lost power for nearly 24 hours during hurricane Irma and used our one fan non-stop during the outage. It did a great job without problems! I’m sure it would have kept going strong if we needed if for longer.

It was compact and quiet, and circulated the air well. My husband was so pleased that we are buying three more! A word of advice: buy plenty of D batteries ahead of time should you need the fan for an extended period (just to be safe).

Before and after the storm there were no D batteries available anywhere.

This is about the eighth O2Cool fan I’ve bought over the years. I’ve bought so many NOT because they wear out or are defective in any way, but because they keep getting better, and members of my family have spirited my older ones away to their new households.

First, living in Florida and having a yearly dread of hurricane season, I love the fact that these fans can operate either using the AC adapter or D batteries. Few fans can be used in power failures, but this is one! (Warning, though: they also make a smaller version of this fan, but it does NOT come with an adaptor, so cannot be used except with batteries.

) Second, it’s amazingly quiet, even on its highest setting. Third, it’s stylish! I like the black face. Earlier versions of the fan had a fold-down base that could also be used for hanging, and this fan has a more narrow, stand-like base.

What’s lost in utility (possible to hang) is gained in compact style, in my opinion.

OMG. Thank God for this little fan. I bought it to travel to Africa, and the country im in is very hot and humid right now and I’m staying in a room with no air conditioning. Ive used this fan every night so far, 4 nights in a row for at least 6 hours at a time straight and I haven’t needed to change the batteries yet.

I packed it in my carry on with the box it came in and it traveled in perfect condition. Im never traveling without this fan again. If you know you need a fan to sleep or if you know humid weather is unbearable for you, I highly recommend this product.

small compact but unless you have it right in your face it doesn’t cool well. very poor air flow whether you use battery or the usb port. Will be returing item for another size. Does have two speeds.

slow and very slow. I bought it for office cubicle for personal fan. Would not recommend this fan. I wish I knew that it was not very good air flow before I purchased this item. Other people I know have bought this brand but in a bigger size and they were happy with the larger blade size.

I have had a better air flow from a hand held fan with about a 1-2 inch blade.

This is the third of these devices that I’ve purchased. I keep coming back to them, despite their defects, for simple reason that they are useful and versatile. The good bits are: three speeds, powerful air flow, the ability to tilt the fan for tabletop use.

The bad bits are: noisy with the upper settings; ify electrical connections (when you tilt the fan, the power sometimes shuts off); a short shelf life (as I said, this is the third of these fans that I’ve purchased; none has lasted more than a year.

This fan is lightweight, and quiet on low and medium speeds; More noisy on high speed but do not need this speed often. very convenient because it is fold-able. Must be careful when pressing power button so it does not get off track, which is my only issue.

I love this fan and give it to my “hot” friends as gifts.

Best camping hammock fan I have found so far. I have bought 10 or 12 other fan and not 1 will last as long on 1 set of batteries.

I take this fan with me fully charged when I clean homes where the clients are older and use their heater quite a bit. Works great on low and medium and cools off very well. On high, I even feel a little chilly though it is winter.

Winter in California where I live is 65° and sunny. It takes a while to charge it fully, probably about five hours. I did it in broken up hours so I’m not sure how long it took. It is much sturdier and easier to use than I thought it might be.

Very easy to transport. I am not at all technically inclined and I could follow the very easy instructions and it comes fully assembled. I got it because it’s cordless once charged up, and the power goes out quite a bit where I live in the summer due to Highwinds and fires.

This will keep me cooler in the summer with no air conditioning should the power go out. I will be purchasing another one for the same reason. With two I think we’ll manage to stay cool enough to sleep with no power.

I think this will be great to take on vacations as well and place near the bed or even camping would be great! You will have to buy an adapter if you don’t have one already for your cell phone that plugs into the wall to stick the back end into.

And they also make adapters for the car so you could charge it as you drive. I think this is a very smart and useful product. I can’t comment on how long it lasts but most products I have ordered from collections etc have lasted well over 2 years, most items going on 5 years.

This review is premature bc I have not yet used it after it’s fully charged. I wanted to go ahead and point out that when I first got it out of the box and plugged it in to charge, all 3 lights remained solid.

The instructions said this meant the fan was fully charged. I figured it must come charged from the factory. So, I unplugged it and put it up until I needed it. When I went to actually use it though (about 1hr later), it wouldn’t turn on and none of the lights were now lit.

I plugged it in to charge again, and this time all 3 lights are blinking, indicating the fan needs to be charged a whole lot! But, it does operate while charging. Although this defeats the purpose of needing a battery operated fan.

Also, wouldn’t running the fan while trying to charge it make the charging time go way up, or make the attempt to charge futile?.

The Honeywell Turbo On The Go Fan is a portable folding fan that has quite a lot of power for such a little fan. I like that there are multiple ways to power the fan. You can use 4 AA batteries or a barrel plug with a USB connector.

I can plug it in to my laptop or power cube charger, even my portable battery charger. The handle turns into a stand for the fan, or you can use it to hang thx fan up with. This fan is small, about the same size as my hand, but it really creates a strong breeze that can be felt several feet away.

It is perfect for inside and outside use. Right now I have it on my bedside stand to keep me cool while I sleep. But I can’t wait to take it with me everywhere once summer gets here. It is lightweight and with its compact size, it can easily fit into my purse and diaper bag to keep us cool on the go.

I am super pumped for this portable fan! Its always been hot and humid in Houston, but in the last few years my body temperature threshold has been changing. I’m outside longer and I’m sweating quicker.

This fan is just the right size for me. Big enough to push plenty of air, but small enough to take on the go. It is well designed with a fold-out kickstand that is very stable. I also like that it has little pads on the bottom to keep it from slipping around.

The kick stand can rotate 180 degrees so it could be used to hang up if the need arises. As for functionality, it is very simple. Just one button for on and off. For power, it takes 4 AA batteries or plugs in via USB.

The battery compartment is easy to access and, thankfully, doesn’t require a screw driver. I tried the USB power from my laptop, a wall plug, and a cell-phone battery bank and all 3 worked great.

This is a great, lightweight portable fan! I liked the fact that it is both battery-powered (requires 6 “D” batteries) and and AC powered. The fan has 2 speeds and produces a good air flow on each. High speed does not cause a lot of noise, either.

This fan is very lightweight and is entirely made of plastic. It has a built-in carrying handle in the top of the unit and you are able to tilt the fan to control the direction of the air flow. It’s great for using as a personal fan at your bedside or on your desk.

I bought this as a gift for a friend who thinks 75 degrees Fahrenheit is intolerably hot. She reports that she is very happy with it. It is comfortable to wear. It keeps her cool at the low setting. The high setting isn’t too noisy; it’s just too high-pitched for the delicate little ears of this person who can’t stand to listen to sopranos.

That may not be a problem for you, but it’s the only reason I did not give five stars. (I have yet to hear it, so I can’t offer an opinion on the noise. ).

This fan is a “godsend ” for me. I take a medication that has a side effect of (sweating) unwanted presperation at odd times. So I take my fan and put it around my shoulders (neck) and adjust the speed and ahh! Instant Relief ! Works best if a can sit and relax with it and within 10 to 15 minutes my symptoms have abated.
