20 Best Tracking Device For Kids (2023 Updated)

The device has a very strong magnet and a rubber to seal off charging port making it water/splash proof when you attach the device to the outside of a moving vehicle. The downside is that it provides real time data and very limited historic data.

The historic data does not have a time stamp on the point. So you know the ‘where’ but the ‘when’ when looking back a day is unclear. Took stars off for that. If they update it, and the history is time stamped, I will revise my review.

Another feature I like is the Fence. When the device is stationary, you can put a fence around it and when the device leaves the fence, you get notified. Lights can be turned on and off to be more discreet.

I gave only 3 stars because while it does give the correct street name, still the number address is always WAY OFF. like, you can be parked INSIDE the house and it still says you’re like 5 or 6 houses down.

but most importantly, the BATTERY DOES NOT LAST AT ALL! I got this for my boyfriends car and am doing it discreetly but its EXTREMELY DIFFICULT WHEN I KEEP. ON. HAVING TO GO BACK N RETRIEVE IT AND CHARGE IT! ITS INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING.

ALSO, WHEN HES HOME ID LIKE TO SWITCH IT TO EVERY 4 OR 6 HOURS BUT WHEN U SWITCH IT BACK TO EVERY MINUTE- IT STILL HAS TO WAIT 6 MORE HOURS FROM THE TIME U SWITCH IT!.

At first I must admit I was skeptical!. I’ve purchased so-called trackers several times before. However, after the initial setup, which was easy and I do mean VERY easy (I’m no tech Guy, So If I Can Do It ANYONE Can Do It) once I was done it connected IMMEDIATELY with pinpoint accuracy!!! I was shocked and blown away! and very impressed! But of course being the skeptic that I am / WAS, I had to take it for a “test drive”.

And once again, shot and amazed I actually found something that REALLY works!!! I WILL be buying a FEW MORE for the several vehicles of the family! Thank you LandAirSea, I am a HAPPY CUSTOMER!.

Fantastic piece of kit, it provides valuable insight into on pitch performance. It’s great to get data and feedback on my physical performance, that coaches can’t always provide. I now know if I am working to my maximum levels of performance on gameday, tracking physical metrics such as sprints, intensity and my heatmap to make sure I’m covering all areas of the pitch.

This product is horrible. Says my apex tracker does not exist. Takes forever to connect when it does work. So problematic. Can barely name when this product has worked. I have tried reaching out to the company but still no response.

Such a let down and has only worked 2 times in my 5 months of having it.

I bought this product because I play amateur football twice a week and would like to improve my running and football performance. This equipment gives me such opportunities and I can compare my performance with professional footballers.

I have version 7. 0. One would think that the browser based user experience (UX) would be at a much higher level and EVERY option clicked would actually work without producing an error. The street view doesn’t work.

The zoom level on the platforms Google map prohibits 15 zoom levels (you can only zoom to a 1-mile viewport on a standard 1080p monitor). The UX is simply awful. Completely non-intuitive. Don’t get me started on the Android mobile app.

It’s HORRIBLE! I used the web app 8 years ago. It’s nearly the same. It sucked then and it sucks now. Tech support takes 3 times to answer basic questions. With the longevity that this company has, it must be broke to not be able to afford better software and better service.

Hey CEO, raise your prices so you can hire better software developers and provide better service! We don’t want cheap, we want solid, good software and good support. The hardware seems good enough, that I’d pay nearly double for it in order to have better software, but the most import thing to solve is the crappy zoom level limits on your Google map.

Great product and as advertised. The battery life may or may not be as much as advertised but is most sufficient for my application. Lots of complaints in other reviews about battery life that I don’t understand for the most part.

I use my tracker for a kayak that I keep on a trailer and like using the Nano when traveling and with the kayak sitting on a trailer and the concern of being stolen. I charge my Nano frequently because it is possible and I want the most charge if the tracking need ever arises.

I look forward to the iPhone and iPad apps being more capable and that is my only dissatisfaction. This unit is also small and that might be the compromise in a shorter battery life. There are a couple of variables that enter into the amount of battery being used, this battery is most sufficient for me.

I get instant text messages and e-mails when my geofence is violated with an exit, very reliable. The phone support I got to help with the instructions and “how to” was much better during the week for some reason than when I made a call or two on a weekend.

The development of a geofence was quite easy.

I love this tracker! I am not good with technology but even I set it up and put it on my daughter’s car by myself. It even told me when she was speeding, naughty new driver! A very good tracker to track cars. It is small & portable The device is very easy simple to set up and the website to track is also very easy navigate. The iPhone app is also very handy. The users get a lot of data pertaining to location, speed, & fuel usage.

It also has paid services like road side assistance. Would be very useful for tracking fleet vehicles (commercial or otherwise).

I’ve been looking for a more versatile tracker and this one fits the bill. The fact that this uses a combination of GPS, cellular, wifi, AND bluetooth for tracking, makes this tracker extremely versatile with how you can use it as well as its accuracy.

I was pretty excited about the ability to be able to locate my tracker (which I’ve hidden in my motorcycle). I used to have a tracker that would alert me if the tracker left my address, but unfortunately that product has been discontinued and have been looking for something else ever since.

The cube tracker seemed to fit my requirements, in which you can create a “Safe Place” (which I created work/home) to alert me when it leaves. However, it does not seem to be consistent. According to the app itself, the Safe Place when connected to the wifi puts the tracker in power saving mode.

I also setup a virtual fence at both my home and office (as i did w/previous tracker) to alert me anytime it leaves (and enters). In theory, this is excellent, and what I wanted to do is essentially have a GPS tracker which is an alarm, to let me know the minute it leaves my home/work while I’m not on it.

In usage though, it doesn’t seem to alert me enough – i had a friend take the GPS with them and walk outside of the 200M virtual fence, but it didn’t seem to work unless I had the app open, which is not great, and I’ve set the intervals to 1 minute, so I should’ve been alerted immediately.

It does do a good job of tracking though. Since it’s in my bike, I do randomly drive and take random streets as I love riding, and my weekend trip was very well tracked on the GPS, but that is my secondary want.

The primary reason is to make sure I am notified as soon as my bike leaves! It is great to look back on my driving route on my longer drivers, which I have been missing as I haven’t had a tracker in 2 years.

Often, throughout the day, I get a notification that the bike has entered the virtual fence, even though it’s been sitting there all day. Apparently the bluetooth connection sometimes gets disconnected, and I think it has to do if I’m overtaxing the bluetooth on my phone, so that is not really a Cube Tracker problem but just a general bluetooth power issue.

The alerts are lacking, the app has 5 different RingTones, but all of them seem the same and not distinguishable enough. I stopped allowing me to even sample the the ring tones after the first day, but that doesn’t matter – if you have an Apple Watch paired with the Iphone, it will just use a standard alert and it doesn’t sound unique.

Not sure who can fix that – apps like this should be allowed to NOT go to the watch and force a specific ring on your iphone (especially if you’re using Virtual fence/Safe Place). If you can’t tell that your cube is alerting you in a distinctive way, then there is no point in using it! I will still use it until I find something better, but the alert system / sounds are lacking and if it is the middle of the night and someone stole your bike – you would not know until you wake up.

What I like the most about this GPS tracker is its convenience to be placed anywhere. Its small, solid, long lasting Battery (specs states from 10-60 days depending on the configuration), can be discretely placed in the car or any other place you want it.

You can carry with you, in case you are in a country where you don’t feel safe, you can put in your bag while you are traveling in case you are not feeling confident with the airline baggage service, so the GPS coverage is worldwide, or you can attach it to your pet while you are walking and have peace of mind if he got lost.

But basically if your car is stolen, this is the device you want to locate it. It is very accurate, and because it has its own battery, it doesn’t mater if the thieves disconnect the Battery of the vehicle, whenever is hidden the Tracker it it will continue providing the location.

You can hardwire in the car with the USB-micro USB cable that comes with the device, and then look for the way to hide it in the car, so it will not run off battery. The setup is pretty simple, just follow the instructions, first you install the Cube Tracker app, this can be found either Apple Store or Google Play.

Create an account. It is going to ask you the payment method. $16. 50 is reasonable, I am paying the same amount for the Kahu lojack GPS tracker service, I have installed in my car, and doesn’t have the advantage that this Cube tracker offers, where I can use it anywhere.

Besides, the monthly data plan doesn’t have a fee for cancelling or restart the service, which is very convenient. Then, you have to give it permission locations all the time, press and hold until it beeps the button to pair it via Bluetooth with the app, and finally add the serial number of the device and that is all.

One cool thing I noticed is that the app comes with the option to make it ring, in case you are looking for it. The app offers some other options, like create a virtual fence, so if the vehicle left the boundaries you have set up, the app will alert you, SOS Button so you can send a prerecorded text message along with your location to your family and friends.

I think this is a very convenient, Multipurpose and affordable device that will give you peace of mind.

Our son got this for Christmas and I’m pretty sure he has not taken it off since, except to get his replacement. He loves the step counter and the chores. Garmin Customer Service were awesome and arranged for a replacement unit (through Rebel) when the watch had a syncing issue that none of us could resolve.

Cons: Watch band (holder) became loose and watch fell out a few times, we have since upgraded and the new watch band is much better. Watch is still loose around the wrist but does not fall off. Son checks steps against our watches on average 18 million times a day, including phone calls while we are at work.

Infuriating that he now knows the accurate time, one more minute no longer means 1 – 45 minutes. Watch has a timer feature, when you say “I’ll be five minutes”, he sets a five minute timer (Accurate 100% of the time).

Unsure if it watch or user error when I tell him to set the timer for five minutes to stop playing, somehow is never goes off, it did not set it properly or the alarm was missed (only accurate 25% of the time).

In all seriousness though the band is the only negative, he can use the watch without issue.

So far, about a month in, we like this watch. For the price, it has great features. It is easy to use, and my kiddo likes seeing his steps and sleep. The one thing I dislike is that we have to manually since it fairly often.

It doesn’t always do it automatically (in fact most often we have to push the button). At first I didn’t like the display, as it is quite dim, but I realized that is by design and it just takes a quick button push to brighten the screen.

The timers, reminders, goals, chore settings are great, and I can track all of them right on my phone. Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase!.

My son loved this watch for many years. He wore it constantly, and it lived up to all the tough tests an elementary kid could throw at it for years (over 2 now). Unfortunately, it got lost recently because it fell out of the band.

I would recommend changing the band every once in a while (maybe yearly) for a nice firm fit. But, we were so pleased with it that the younger brother just got one too. The battery does really last a year+ and it is incredibly durable.

This tracker was extremely simple to set up. It came with a detailed visual and written instructions to set it up on Brickhouse Security’s website. I got the Basic plan and I cannot believe just how accurate it was on the map.

You even have other map options if you like to have a different visual, but they all work great. The tracker gave me a sense of security and accuracy since I used it to track my stops for work and while I exercise in my neighborhood.

It showed me the speed and how long I was in movement, stopped, and parked. There are the options to track with your computer or on your mobile device when you download the app which I appreciate. There are a lot of cool features, so I recommend reading the manual they have on the website, so you don’t feel overwhelmed and can get the most out of it.

Also, the battery life of the tracker is great! I’ve been using it for seven days and I’m at 56%. It also helps that when I’m home, I turn it off. Definitely recommend this tracker for families or those wanting to respectfully keep track of an individual for safety reasons.

Attractive small unit, and a great price for the plentitude of features and uses! Great vehicle location device and historical data for the elderly, teens, and business transport logistics. The quick start guide makes it easy to get up and running quickly.

You can later delve into all the features or to personalize the dashboard, and the company developed tutorials on YouTube are a great resource. Reports and Geofencing feature is amazing on such an affordable product.

Great product – I received my device earlier than expected. The activation process took less than 5 minutes. I’m currently tracking my teen since he got his license and let me tell you that your tracker has not failed me once.

The best feature is being alerted when he exits the geofence. I was able to monitor exactly where he was going. Worried mom’s mind totally at ease. Best purchase EVER!!!!!.

problem is that even with the setting of sending location at high frequency i do not get updates every 2 to 3 minutes. It does not give clear points of location – not great for kids backpack as sometimes the location is a bit off and not accurate.

battery does hold for very long though. It is ok for items like car, bags, etc.

Great idea, love the months of battery life. Hate that sometimes it hangs, and might not show the motion for a whole day. The issue was coming erratically, and I hope it is will be fixed with the software updates.

Not waterproof, so it’s a good idea to put it into a small plastic bag right away.

I spent about a year trying to make the Spot Trace work as an anti-theft device on my 40 foot sailboat. Granted, the device is easy to set up and install – I installed it close to the engine and got it with the 12 volt cable so I could hook it up to the boat and not worry about changing the batteries.

Unfortunately the Spot Trace does not detect movement very well, not to say at all. I have sailed for days without this thing tracking. I’ve had things fall on the floor in the cabin and people get seasick without the Spot noticing movement and I’ve motored for hours without the device tracking.

I’ve even brought it to shore in my pocket on shopping trips. No tracking. I could make it track by turning it off and back on after I started sailing, but I’m afraid even the most considerate pirate would not be that helpful.

The Spot support crew have tried different solutions. They replaced the device itself, we tried installing different versions of the firmware, we tried installing a special super-sensitive vibration sensing firmware tweak, but nothing could help it detect movement and start tracking unless I REALLY shook the device around.

After almost a year a nice lady in support took pity on me and went off script: “Well, we’ve had some problems with this device on sailboats”. Thank you, that is very helpful to know instead of just letting me waste my time for a year.

I wanted my money back since the device does not work as advertised but Spot argued that the device actually tracked from time to time, so they wouldn’t make a refund. I argued that it was like having a house alarm with a movement sensor that only detected Halloween Parties and claiming that it worked.

They said they’d refund me $50 as a good-faith gesture. The money never showed up on my card though and this is pretty typical for the Spot support experience. They are happy to suggest solutions while on the phone but once the call is over I will have to call them back about any promises they made.

for instance, it took 3 or 4 calls over a month or so to push them through the process of sending me a replacement device. The Spot Trace might work in a car or a trailer, or on a high-speed water craft, but personally I wouldn’t trust it to and since Spot support seems to consider the device more of a toy than a safety device, I would look for a company with a more professional approach.

Easy to setup Don’t forget to check for updates like your phone when you buy an unit I called support because I was not able to get it going and did the updates with support: knowledgeable and friendly.

Bought it because of « boat motion » option. Tested it last weekend by actually taking the unit in my hand walk away from boat with and got email notice. What’s left to test: longevity of batteries and how it reacts when it’s cold.

This is definitely the best lost finder I have tried. Works with Bluetooth LE so it will be a short while before it alarms (signal is passed every twenty seconds or so) but has always worked perfectly for me.

Software is nice too with lots of customisation if you want it and looks very smart.

Overloads Android phones and canabilises all bluetooth connections to preference itself. Worst thing Ive bought. Battery drain is huge. Feedback help from maker was useless 🙁 🙁 🙁 Requeststo update Never work!!.

I love this! It is easy to set up and even easier to use! It can also help you find your phone. I highly recommend this!

The version that ended up ordered was on the AT&T network instead of T-Mobile. The interface and cart details could be improved to avoid this. Then I got a T-Mobile SIM but couldn’t activate it on the TickTalk Wireless site.

Turns out that although the SIM was white-colored and the QR code sticker took me to the TickTalk Wireless site, it was a Red Pocket SIM. There was no visual or evident indication of the Red Pocket network.

How would a customer know this? After waiting the whole weekend to talk to support on Monday, I was then thrown at the Red Pocket site and basically told to “figure it out. you have to call Red Pocket if you encounter any problems”.

Not a great customer experience. I was then able to create an account and figure things out on my own. Red Pocket’s interface is bad. The overall activation experience is cumbersome and not user friendly.

It would be nice if customers could have the ability to choose the wireless network provider when making their purchase or if TickTalk could properly identify the SIM card or provide instructions to identify it.

The overall apps/sites experience is also not great. You have 3 different usernames/passwords: one for the TickTalk site (orders), another for TickTalk Wireless, and then another one for the mobile app.

The whole thing is complicated if you are not tech savvy. Also, the login screen in the mobile app is not password manager friendly. That said, there are not many comparable smartwatches out there, so customers (like me) do their best to navigate these user experience issues.

Once you configure everything, I can’t deny that the smartwatch has been pretty reliable. Parental controls are a little tricky to understand at first, but they have some very good options. It’s only a week of use, but the device has already been a game changer in terms of communicating and knowing where our kid is.

The group chat feature has been the best way to simplify communications between our kid and both of us parents. The charger is just a USB A cable with a special terminal connector that plugs in the back of the watch.

It would be nice if the USB wall charger was provided with the device. After reading so many reviews and looking at all options available (in 2023), my experience is that the TickTalk 4 seems the best option to give our kid a phone-like device with parental controls without actually handing them a phone.

As an 80 year old disabled person living on my own the Call Blocker now puts me back in control. Best thing I ever purchased.

This is a good product, it blocks all numbers you want to block and very easy to use.

Pretty good smart watch for kids. It has lots of games, a camera, a flash light that is bright, pedometer to track how many steps, audio books and music. The touch screen works great, it’s easy to navigate the different functions on the watch.

My 11 year old loves it!.

My daughter wants to be just like mommy with her own smart watch. This one is so cool! It’s very user friendly and easy to navigate. It even has a touchscreen! The band is adjustable and silicone with a nice feel.

We were supposed to see friends from Georgia in NY over the holidays but Covid put the kibosh on that. So we sent the gift down to her and it turned out to be her favorite gift…and this kid gets gifts! It was a real hit and well worth the price.

We got a Jiobit about a month ago, and use it with our one remaining pet who goes out of doors. Our cat is medium-sized, but he doesn’t seem to mind the Jiobit, which dangles down from his collar. We actually sewed the provided cloth holder to his collar to make it work better – if we tried to attach it directly, using the provided plastic clip, it hung sideways.

We also had to loosen the cloth holder a bit to make it easier to slide the Jiobit in and out. A custom secure collar would be appreciated! The system does a good job of reporting when our pet goes outside the ‘trusted zone.

‘ It’s a little unnerving that there isn’t a ‘force refresh’ button so we can get tracking on demand – you have to wait for the system’s regular automatic update reconnects. Possibly the creators were worried that pet owners would keep pressing ‘refresh’ but our guess is that this would be temporary – the system really does a good job of tracking your pet.

The locations look accurate. We were easily able to compare the map to Google Maps and determine that the places our pet went were plausible – no signals from office buildings. One time we though the Jiobit was in error – it made our cat look like he was inside the house.

Turns out he was walking across the roof to a back door! More distant tracking with the cellular network works best. We noticed that close-range Bluetooth had some trouble narrowing down location (you would think it would be more accurate).

Don’t expect to see a move of a few inches, but tens of feet moves always show up. There is a beta Timeline feature allowing you to see the route your pet took. In our case it was really helpful – we discovered that our cat’s disappearances from the back yard all went to a single house a few hundred feed away, near a small park.

Radar (we named our cat before we got the Jiobit) makes a beeline to that house every few days, and comes back by a direct route. We suspect this is a house that feeds strays. The Timeline feature should definitely be made standard.

This is definitely a good tool for peace of mind.

This product proved to be very disappointing. I placed it on my cat over a month ago, who is frequently outside in our large yard, I thought it would be interesting to see where she goes and to be able to find her in case she didn’t make it home.

Very minimal activity since then, rarely a notification of movement. Yesterday morning I received a notification that she had left the home area, and the GPS marked her as being almost 1/2 mile away across a 6 lane expressway near a warehouse.

As one would expect, I panicked and began the search. While tracking with my cell phone at the designated location, I was informed that the “location accuracy was weak”. The whole purpose of this device is to pinpoint the location when the animal has left the trusted area, and when you need it most, it tells you right up front it isn’t reliable.

Fast forward through an entire day of random notifications, that she was home, left again, home, left again, across the highway again, sometimes less than 5 minutes apart I was receiving notifications that she was home and then 1/2 mile away again.

All night, repeated notifications that she was home, even though she was not. And the most disappointing part was that the feature to “ring the device” (so it makes a noise for easy finding) is NOT something you can do while the animal is considered out of their area.

So even recovering a dead body by listening for the device in the middle of a field is not something this tracking device can help you do. She was on my front porch in the morning, as usual. Complete waste of my sanity, time, and money.

The company won’t provide a refund because I didn’t buy it directly from them.

I started using this for my wandering jerkface cat four days ago and overall I love it. The app was easy to set up on my iPhone, and the tracking works very well. I set a 100-foot radius because my yard is small.

The first day I walked to track him down several times. I also found out that he was wandering in areas I hadn’t know about before. It has given me real peace of mind. A few minor criticisms are below: 1) Getting it on the collar was a bit of a challenge.

I had to buy a breakaway collar because the cat doesn’t like me messing with him and I needed to minimize the time to take the device on and off. Why on and off? Read on. 2) Battery life sucks so far when he’s out of range of my home WiFi network.

I understand it should get better after a week(?), but this is the fourth day I’ve used it and it’s gone down 34% in the less than four hours that the cat has been out of range of my home WiFi network (battery barely loses juice when it’s connected to the home WiFi).

So I have to irritate the cat to take the collar off to put it in the charger, every night. Oh, and charging takes a while. At least three minutes per 1% charge. So it will take somewhere around 5 1/2 hours to charge fully if it runs all the way down.

3) Also, I wish there was a second clip on the device so that it would lay flat against the collar instead of sliding down to the bottom of his collar and just hanging. Or that the device was somehow smaller.

The cat doesn’t seem to mind the dangling so far, however. 4) When you’re out searching for your pet and you get near enough to the device for it to connect your phone via bluetooth, the map changes the pet’s location to the location of your phone.

That’s not very helpful if you haven’t spotted the pet yet and you maybe don’t want to tip it off to your presence (my cat fortunately comes when I call him). Temporarily turning off the bluetooth on your phone will resolve this issue, presumably increasing battery usage.

This version of a “fit bit” has been one of the biggest hits with my 8 year old grandson. He absolutely loves it and because it is aimed at his age group it does not have anything on it to distract him from using it simply as a way of working out his daily progress.

It tells him about the world around him and keeps him informed and entertained without the worry of extras such as inappropriate video games or access to Youtube. He absolutely loves it and the price was something that drew me to this particular fitbit, plus the reviews and articles were excellent.

I totally recommend this to anyone thinking about getting one for their child/grandchild without paying out for an unnecessary expensive market brand. This fitbit is well made and well designed. Everyone was very impressed and It was such a hit with all the family that my son also bought a replaceable strap so my grandson could ring the changes.

The order was dispatched and arrived quickly and the two year guarantee that John Lewis gives was an added bonus. Good value for money, excellent.

I just bought two of these for my kids and I’m sure they’ll be great but I had some major setup issues for my daughter because she’s 14 and apparently you can only setup an account for these for children 13 and under.

You can’t make a child account for a child over 13 and you can’t connect this device to a regular account. I had to call the help line to figure it out. Even though my daughter had already made her own account, we couldn’t use it and had to make her a child account and say she was 13.

The birthday date I used rolls over in two days and the device is supposed to prompt her to make an adult account at that point and supposedly the Ace 3 will still work for her with the new account. Also, the guy on the phone says we should be able to use the existing account but we’ll see.

I have a feeling he misunderstood my question about that.

Kids Fitbit. Concept is good but applications are very limited. Good for tracking steps and activity minutes. Wish they would allow more access to features for the kids version. Regular Fitbits can’t be linked under the family account so this is the only option for kids.

As others have stated the band isn’t great quality either but a new band can be purchased for decent prices. Same bands used for the Fitbit inspire 2 model.

I got this watch for my then 6 year old son last January (2021). I was very happy with it until recently. It motivated my son to move more, do more exercise and encouraged him to do some household chores and become more independent.

He got a sense for saving up virtual coins to get a new toy or book and to work for it. The adventures offered in the app was captivating enough for him, but 9 months in we reached the end of the adventures and it started from the beginning.

At this point he has lost interest in. To get a new set of adventures I’d have to buy a new band (strap) in red or black which would unlock the Avengers adventures. A new band costs 40 euro including delivery and VAT.

But the main problem is that the watch stopped working. It started with the watch not keeping the time and then the battery died, so we changed the battery to the recommended one. However after a few days the time kept lagging behind again and when that happens the watch doesn’t count steps or measures the sleep.

I changed the battery again (both were high quality branded batteries), but after a week the same happened. I tried a few troubleshooting steps that I found online, but it just got worse to a point that the watch is now rendered completely useless.

I’ve been in touch with Garmin support for 2 weeks, sent them a few details, but so far I’m none the wiser. While researching online about this issue I realised I’m not the only one facing it.

Pros: Nice design, the watch face is q good size – not huge and clunky like most kids dmartwatches. Options for anologue or digital watchface, the adventures keep my 6yo entertained. Its also waterproof which is a big bonus.

Activity and step tracker are pretty accurate. Overall, a decent fitness watch for a child. Cons: Its great for the 5-8 age range but definately too young for any older. This watch (while attractive) is only in various disney themes and no neutral/plain options available.

This is the second VivoFit JR3 we have purchased from Rebel Sport. We purchased the first for my eldest son’s 6th birthday. Now it’s time to repeat the process for our younger son’s birthday. We have had great success using the step counter and marvel game rewards to get the kids out and about, whether swimming, walking or riding, they love checking in afterwards to see how many steps have taken.

Also worth noting that we had a fault with the first watch and I called Garmin directly. They were incredible and replaced the watch straight away. Very impressed, that why we purchased another for our other child.

As per other reviews, this unit is a bit tricky to setup. The instructions included with mine aren’t great (one or two errors) but a better version is available to download from the Halfords/Streetwize website.

These may now be included with the unit as I bought mine a while ago. It can track in a couple of ways. Either it can report its position to a server provided by the device manufacturer (TKSTAR), which you can then use the app to access, or you can use it via SMS which allows you to text the unit for information.

This has the added advantage of not revealing your unit’s location to a server hosted somewhere else in the world and keeps it in your own control. Personally I’d recommend using it in SMS mode and with sleep mode enabled (contrary to the instructions) to maximise battery life (or reduce current draw on your car’s battery in my case).

Skip the sleep command in the instructions and by default it will wake up either when it detects movement/shock or when you send it a SMS message. If you do turn off sleep, the device is constantly live for GSM & GPS, as well as GPRS if you’re using the app which might explain some of the comments here about poor battery life.

Overall recommended especially at £45, but the instructions (even the improved ones) lack in-depth info about the unit’s additional features and settings which you have to dig around on the internet for (clue, there are several other similar GPS units that use the same commands).

The iOS app is also very clunky & badly in need of updating.

Instruction booklet printed so small its unreadable. I struggled through it with a magnifying glass. Coloured warning lights on device difficult to see and interpret, one is in / behind power socket so view is blocked.

Installation of SIM card fiddly, 4 screws to open the thing in half then the full size SIM goes behind a metal holder you have to click back – nearly broke it trying to work out which way to slide it.

It is Unreliable – I have tried several locations in the vehicle it is too easily shielded by bodywork to the point that it almost needs to be on view. If I send it a text and the signal is weak I have no idea if it will ever respond to that text, so I don’t know how long to leave it to try again.

With a lot of persistence I suppose it can just about do the job, with a bit of luck. Below it asks which store. I BOUGHT IT ONLINE!.

I bought this as a tracker for my motorcycle. The PAYG sim required a £10 credit and another £5 every six months to avoid the number being disconnected and credit being lost. Tested it twice before it turned itself off which required half an hour of digging it out from its hidden position to turn it on again only for it to turn off again a day later.

You have to text the tracker repeatedly to find each position so if it’s on the move you’ll soon spend your credit trying to tracking it. Spend a little more and get or like me up I’ll end up wasting £55 on the “tracker” and £15 on credit for a something not worth even half the money.
