20 Best Toys For Small Dogs (2023 Updated)

5 stars – It is a KONG and it does exactly what you would think. Greatest dog toy of all time!!! The puppy Kong and classic Kong are the greatest dog toys of all time. If you don’t have one, I don’t know how you survive the puppy days! I have 8 of the various Kong toys in my freezer and give one to my puppy every time I leave the house or need a moment’s peace.

You can use them as snacks or feed all of their meals in them. There are YouTube videos and online instructions with endless possibilities for filling these. If you are in a hurry, plug the small end with peanut butter, fill it with kibble, add a little water or broth, then plug the big end with peanut butter and freeze it! It will keep your puppy busy for 30 minutes.

I like to use chicken and canned 100% pumpkin for a lower calorie treat. Oatmeal, mashed sweet potatoes, lean beef, carrots, bananas, strawberries, anything that is safe for dogs to eat will work. If you don’t have time to freeze it, just put a few treats in and let the puppy work on that.

It’s one of the only toys I will leave with my puppy when I can’t supervise her. She even likes to play with it empty. Just a great toy. Every puppy should have at least one!.

My rough and tumble dog who destroys toys in a manner of minutes has had one of these for almost four years now and it doesn’t even LOOK beat up. She’s rough with this thing-smacking it into walls, shoving it into doors, and on one memorable occasion pushing it down a full flight of stairs (it didn’t even bust open, didn’t even untwist at ALL).

She still goes up to this thing and will ask for it when she knows it’s dinner time. Cannot recommend the Wobbler enough, it’s a wonderful product. It’s loud on hardwood floors and I will bet you is tougher than most if not all of your floor level decorations.

The hole in it is large enough to dispense most kibbles without just dumping food everywhere as it goes. It also holds ALOT. My beastie gets 3/4 a cup at a time, but this thing could hold 2 full cups no problem (I have the large version).

And even after almost four years of heavy use, it still goes together and unscrews just fine. Do yourself a favor, get you and your dog(s) a wobbler.

I have bought three Kong toys over the years. They last FOREVER! All of my dog loved them! Sometimes they just like to roll it around on the floor and play with it. even without any treats inside! I have put different types of treats inside…milkbones, smaller chewy treats ( ex.

mini bacon strips ), and of course peanut butter!! The Kong entertains for longer when you freeze it with peanut butter or the Kong filling. It’s great to give your pets before going to work or leaving the house for awhile….

Keeps them busy!!! Just be sure to only use REGULAR PEANUT BUTTER!!!! NOT SUGAR FREE, because the sweetener is EXTREMELY TOXIC to dogs!!! I wash it by hand after using with any type of treat. Im pretty sure this thing will last forever as long as I can keep it clean! I highly recommend the classic Kong dog toy!!! I will definitely be purchasing more products made by Kong!.

Kong Extreme products are the only toys that survive our 50-pound Portuguese Water Dog puppy. We tuck small biscuits inside each slot and it keeps our dogs entertained when we must go out. But, choose the size appropriately for your specific dog.

We also own the largest size of this bone — it’s heavy for the puppy to carry easily, but he hasn’t destroyed it. This smaller size is more appropriate looking for him, but he was able to tear off chunks of rubber in the first five minutes.

Just beware and know your dog. We’ll revert to giving this avid chewer the largest version of this toy, and give this slightly smaller one to some of the less aggressive chewers in the house. As always, Chewy was fabulous with quick, accurate service!.

I actually buy my two little girls mostly Kong brand stuffed toys-they are the best! They’ve had a Kong like this for years & love it. I decided to buy another so that they could each have one now. For some reason neither one has any interest in it.

It doesn’t matter what treat I put inside, but neither tried to get it out for long, When comparing the new one to the old one, it looks the same. Maybe it smells differently to them & not in a pleasant way? I also purchased the new Kong biscuits that are supposed to go inside.

My one dog who will eat pretty much anything finally ate it, but my other baby sniffed it a bit & never ate it. The biscuits were also hard to get in & a couple started to crumble. Not what I expect from this brand.

I ordered this to help with a chewing problem I had with our new puppy. The puppy enjoys it at times, she doesnt play with it daily. It has held up to her chewing and it sort of bounces and rolls on the floor so it does encourage her to move and chase it around a bit.

I have used peanut butter and apples in it but it isnt necessary for her to have food inside. In some ways the food seemed to be frustrating to her as she struggled to get it out. I bought the appropriate size but she still struggled to get the pb out.

Have to watch her snack intake as she is getting multiple snacks and bones to chew during the training process. She doesnt seem to mind if its empty. It’s a little hard to clean after food has been used.

However, it has not broke or lost pieces and that’s a plus.

My Oscar, who is a miniature white poodle loves these little furry toys and he plays with them until they are unrecognizable. However, the good thing is that they tend to last a long long time. I was a little disappointed as they usually come 3 in a nice tidy clear plastic wrapping however, this time they were loose in the box with no packaging at all.

It was as if someone has opened a package and returned it and I got the open product but paid for it as new. I didn’t like this but the toys didn’t look dirty so I kept it. Chewy needs to do better with the packaging.

I personally like OPENING my products, not finding them already open in the bottom of a box. They weren’t even together in the bottom of the box, one was underneath the case of dog food, one was on the left and the other on the right.

Clearly, they were just thrown in the box as there is no way they had room to move around during shipping. There was brown paper stuffed on top to prevent anything from moving around. Better packaging is recommended Chewy even though the products are for pets!.

Finally. A no mess toy for Tbone. Tbone and stuffing do not mix. I suspect Ill be finding a removed squeeker but the toy really holds up to the worlds most destructive, killer of all toys Tbone. (I don’t know why he hates toys so much) The fox is different.

He actually likes this one. (Honestly he flat out ignores the others. ) But fox has touched his heart somehow. Watching him snuggle with it does my heart good too. Thanks Chewy for the 3 pack. Great buy.

As an interactive toy, this is a good one but not the absolute best. Made of a hard shell, it is best used on carpet or softer flooring as it can be very loud on tile, etc. (my pup has used it on carpet, lino and tile).

The ball doesn’t open, so it is a bit fiddly to put more than a few treats in. Also, due to the small holes for treats to come out, food will come out somewhat slowly and you’ll need to use kibble or small treats.

Our pup enjoys this one but gets frustrated or bored if we put more than 1/3 cup (of his regular food) as it dispenses quite slowly due to the small holes. That being said, it is a very reasonable price our preferrest treat dispenser costs about $40).

This ball is hard plastic and makes a lot of noise as it knocks around the house. My dog loves to push it around, but it drives me nuts because of all the noise. Too bad it isn’t made out of softer plastic! Also, if you have 2 dogs, like I do, beware of jealous fighting over this toy once the treats start to fall out.

Yikes. So many things I didn’t consider when ordering this.

My cockapoo really enjoys this toy, especially at dinner time. He will nose it all around to get his food out. I wish it would open up to more easily add food or remove food. We use it with treats for when we are leaving for work.

I would recommend this product. Just make sure you’re willing to add the food or treat piece by piece.

My Frenchie loves any and all GoDog toys! This one is a favorite and we’re actually on his second one. I love that these toys hold up to playing catch, dragged around, chewing/sucking on, and best of all come out clean in the washer and are easily dried in the dryer.

If an arm, leg, or tail starts to come off it’s easy to amputate because each is sewn on separately. I have sewn up holes he’s made and these toys last! We have tried other toys and never found another brand that was better.

They are pricey sometimes but so worth it.

This is the only fabric toy I have gotten my dog that lasts more than a week or two. My bluetick coonhound loves to rip up his toys and pull out the squeaker usually within a few days. The first time I got this dragon toy, it lasted the longest of all his toys (about 3-4 weeks before the squeaker came out), and he still enjoyed playing with it and chewing on it even after the squeaker was gone.

I got him a second one in July and it has kept its squeaker and stayed in great condition (minus a couple legs and part of his head) over 4 MONTHS later. I’m astounded! He picks it up and plays with it regularly, he just loves making it squeak because it has a more powerful and firm squeaker than most toys.

The fabric is so durable that it withstands quite a lot of his strong chewing. I think he likes the toy so much he has preserved it well on purpose!.

It’s rated 4 stars for amusement and would be good for a dog who is gentle with plushies. The plushie will only last so long for my ESS. He loves this plushie so much that he will gut it in 6 seconds.

I have (willingly, lol) bought several of these skinny dragons over the past year, replacing each one as he destroys them. It’s an indulgence for him. The toy initially lasted for about a month or two, but as he got adept at locating the squeaker, they did not last long.

There was one time where he gutted the dragon in 6 seconds – got that squeaker and it was a dead dragon. I took a break from buying him plushies then. But he also got more surgical in his gutting of the dragons.

Only the section where the squeaker is located is torn apart. I just sew the dragon back up – no squeaker but still works as a toy. Of course he began to associate my car with having dragons in it as he now checks my car to see if there are any new dragons lurking about.

I keep the replacement dragon in the car until the old one would be totally destroyed. His current old dragon is now missing a wing. I already have a replacement dragon ready for him. Yes, the dog has cost me plenty in skinny dragons, but it’s my indulgence for the dog.

This toy is AMAZING! I have yet to be disappointed in Jolly Pet toys. My childhood dog started out and 3 generations later Jolly Pet still holds the gold medal of toys. They are make well and last forever.

Not to mention your dog will go crazy for it. Right now we have 3 dogs in the house under the age of 3 and Poppy our oldest has not left it leave her sight since it came in the mail! I actually went and ordered a larger one.

Poppy is on the cusp of needing a medium and large so I started with the medium 6 in because it was best suited for all the dogs. Can’t wait for the Large to come in and see which one she prefers and which one she lets the others play with haha.

Border Collie approved. Definitely her favorite toy to entertain herself (which I love) and if I’m bored I just shake it or hit the inside smaller ball around and she goes crazy (which I sheepishly also love).

My only critique is that a version with a kind of silicone outer lining or something similar for grip and comfort would be nice as it is all scratched up due to her biting it and carrying it around. This causes scratching on me if she sets it on my legs or I pick it up.

Otherwise it is great. Not to mention I have owned it over one year. To note: My dog is a classic border collie who needs entertainment and while she is a heavy chewer, she is trained to get a bone when she wants to chew and I have met other dogs (such as many pits) who are stronger chewers.

She uses a medium extreme ko-ng for reference and can escape any crate. Silicone heavy duty toys usually last. She is also anxious and ball obsessed so she does not try to destroy this though she probably could with motivation.

It is a good idea and works pretty well for keeping them occupied and not just gobbling down a treat instantly. The issue I’ve found is that after the first few uses, my dog, who is completely food motivated, smelled it and didn’t seem to be interested.

The bone has that strange sweet smell that some rubber or plastic toys can have, and I think it overpowers the smell of the treats, especially if they sit on the toy for any amount of time. It seems like my dog can’t even tell there’s a treat on it and so I’ve had to get creative to get him to use it.

In my house, there’s a springer, a large breed puppy and foster dogs on occasion. After getting one for a set of small breed puppy fosters, I bought the larger one for my adopted large breed puppy. Now I keep one on hand for every dog in the house.

So helpful for their chewing needs, they’re content with this toy for long stretches of time. Even my 9 year old springer loves them. As an added bonus, it keeps their teeth clean.

I have two of these. The first of which I bought when my dog was still a puppy, he is now 4 years. Most toys do not survive a day with him, let alone multiple years! And it isn’t that he doesn’t play with it either.

I will say he doesn’t chew on it everyday like a nylabone, but he does chew it and still has not managed to do any significant damage. He loves playing fetch with it as it has a slight bounce when it lands so he can’t predict where it will go.

Drives him nuts!.

From the moment Belle’s jive ball got here it’s been her go-to ball. Belle, who is a registered wrecking ball, destroys or eviscerates every toy (if you consider my Furnature a toy) we’ve introduced to her.

Not the jive. Our trainer, Marty Strausbaugh of Pawsitive Training, suggested your company and specifically the jive ball. And boy I’m glad he did. I confess I use it in the house when the weather is inclement.

I bowl in across the living room thru the dining area into the kitchen over and over and over again. I wish I had a video to show but I can’t bowl and photo at the same time. I’m including a picture of Belle, the Vizsla wrecking ball, just so you know what she looks like.

Our other dog, Rhett Butler, is content with tennis balls for dogs, but Belle takes the toupees off of them and eats the rubber. God bless you and your company for serving the needs of wrecking ball dogs and their wrecked parents.

West Paws is game changer for our aggressive lab chewer. It’s been weeks and she cannot chew thru these products. Only 4 stars bc this is not holding her interest, but Hurley bone is! At nearly 3 yrs and 55lbs she wayyyy prefers Zogoflex Hurley over this and Rumpus.

Best guess is size, shape and fit to her mouth. Also bc she can play tuggy with her sister and Hurley bone. Other products of which I’ve tried everything, have failed miserably and immediately. Either she can chew thru or they’re too heavy in weight or not slightly plyable.

West Paws checks all those boxes. I hope she finds some interest in this and Rumpus bc Hurley is the clear winner here! Pic is of Hurley.

This box of goodies was a wonderful purchase. There are so many toys and options that are perfectly sized for our 2 dogs. They each have their own needs and the toys are able to address and satisfy them.

I was also pleased that a drawstring bag is included and stores them nicely.

There is no way these are made for a medium to large dog. My dog DESTROYED these within five minutes of playing with them. Extremely disappointed with the quality and feel like I wasted my money. These are made more for a smaller medium dog that doesn’t chew a lot.

This box of dog toys were exactly what I ordered. As puppies they have thoroughly enjoyed them. As a large breed dog, surprisingly, they still have some of the rope toys that they continue to play with.

Good product for the money.

This lil toy did surprise me. I bought it originally thinking it was bigger, but the small size turned out to be perfect for my small dog (maltipoo around 8-10 pound) It’s been almost a year now and he still hasn’t taken the squeaker out of this toy and its in fairly good condition still ( little parts are teared up, but for my dog this toy is holding up fairly well) I would repurchase this if my dog managed to take out the squeaker.

I have a one year old Pug puppy and a 4 year old Pug. The puppy loves to chew on things just like most puppies do. I got this Hartz Chew N Clean drumstick bone for him and he really likes it. They even fight over it! You can put treats in it too.

I haven’t done that because he seems to really like the flavor of the bone itself. It seems to satisfy his urge to chew and he spends a lot of time trying to keep it away from my older dog. His breath has improved since I got it too.

I really like it and plan on buying another one for my other dog. I got a size small but it comes in other sizes for bigger dogs. I’m really happy with this drumstick.

Yes, I’ll admit it, my 7 month old mini poodle is spoiled with treats toys. I really like the Hartz brand.  This treat within a toy made my puppy happy. She threw it around, chewed it and played with it.

How smart to hide a treat inside a drumstick toy. It looks like this toy/treat will be long lasting. I did have to take away one ⭐️ , however, because the scent of the treat may bother some people ~ it is a bit strong.

Wonderful toy!Durable, well made squeaker works a little after 3 years. My dog’s name was Clicquot, so this was his extra special, beloved toy. His niece and cousin still play with it safely, in one piece, although he’s gone across the rainbow bridge 🌈.

Pups love it My basset hounds are constantly battling over this toy. It’s the most fought over toy in the bin! Plus, it’s CUTE!

I have bought many Soft bite floppy disc for years. They were made of a durable material and floated well! I just bought 5 new Tail-Spin Flyers and found them to be made of a very thin material that does not stand up well.

2 days use and already shredding. I have dogs that just catch and release to hand (no tugging) and also retrieve from water to hand again no tugging. The new Tail-spin Flyers also do not float as well as the Soft-bite ones.

My old Soft-bite floppy discs could easily last a year with little wear, faded but the material held.

My pup and I love this floppy frisbee. This is the first time I’ve owned an athletic dog that is interested and able to catch a frisbee. It’s so much fun playing with her. This is rugged and flexible.

Lasts a long time, but does eventually get holes in it from biting and tug-of-war. This is by far her favorite outdoor toy.

My new mini dachshund loves these soft and durable toys. Great deal.

Not really ideal for any dogs, my daughter’s jackapoo destroyed all four within two days.

My mother’s dog has a hate/hate relationship with squirrels in the local parks. I bought this to prank him – put it in the garden, let him out, pointed it out and watched him stalk up to it and then make a dash for it.

He was very convinced by its realistic tail and pose and his reaction was golden. 10/10 amusement value. After his initial frenzy (squeaksqueaksqueak! – by the way, the squeaker works), he carries it everywhere and takes it to bed.

It’s definitely not the size stated(much smaller) and looks nothing like the pictures. Mine only came with 1 eye! Definitely not worth the money… Disappointing purchase

The fur on the tail comes out in clumps that I had to take out of my dog’s mouth, and she quickly made a hole in it and got stuffing and ultimately, the squeaker, out She dies love it though. She knows squirrels from the ganden and associated it with the word ‘squirrel’ straight away so there’s no denying it looks like a squirrel!.

We have many hedgies in our household. I think the dogs like the shape, and I like that there aren’t any “removable” parts. This one had a white string sticking out from the top where it had been stitched where the dog immediately wanted to pull it out from.

ALso, the seam in the front was open about 1/3 of an inch. Would I reorder? Yes, because the dogs love this toy, even though this one isn’t as dense as our others; I can stitch up the areas that are opening —- but I shouldn’t have to.

Maybe another one would be better made???.

Our 116lb boy loves toys but especially Hedge Hogs. Our older paraplegic dog loves sleeping with this one. They love HH so much we purchased three different kinds and came back and ordered another one of each.

Highly recommend. Pretty durable unless you have an avid chewer.

When I buy my 2 boys stuffed animal toys I buy them with the understanding that they will last as long as it takes to chew the nose off and pull the stuffings out. We call it “making clouds” But the fun they have!!! So they did love this toy and its all about the fun.

If you look in my dogs toy basket you will see rags left over from other toys yet they are still playable. Others are missing noses and ears because they are the 1st body parts to go. Anyhow, if your dogs do shred toys and you dont want them to then dont get this.

Rather get Chewys gorilla, wolf, tiger, unicorn, etc because they last long.

This little guy is an absolute cutie. Well, they all are, but this one’s a miniature. And satiny soft, yet tough as nails. I don’t know what this “chew guard technology” consists of but it’s foolproof.

My dogs love to gnaw, bite, play tug of war, squeak squeakers endlessly til they squeak no more, and it’s my Rottweiler’s mission in life to rip and tear the stuffing out of anything that’s stuffed. But this little guy came through all that torment unscathed.

Try as he might, Okee couldn’t get a seam to split, a tooth to puncture or an arm or leg to dislodge. After about a month and a half of extreme effort, I think Okee got exasperated and gave up. The mini toy (not super mini mind you) was a little worse for wear; his ear had ripped a little, he was caked with slobber and dirty as all get out, but other than that I’d almost claim a miracle.

The only negative thing I can come up with is the toy might be a bit small, even for my Silky Terrier who much prefers big ‘ole Skinny Pig. My dogs seemed to tire of the little guy even though they were – and still are – enthralled with the larger sized toys.

They seemed to have just lost interest. Maybe because the squeakers no longer squeaked, I dunno. My advice? GET THESE TOYS FOR YOUR DOGS. They’re more than reasonably priced for what they are, they’re machine washable, and wash well, too, my dogs have hours of fun with them, they entertain the animals endlessly, in fact my dogs even use them as pillows.

Well, maybe not the mini. But if you do get some, your dogs will love you forever even longer, and you’ll be patting yourself on the back for making your furbabies so happy. I think I’ll put mini horse on a shelf to be admired, he’s that darn cute!.

I got this for my neighbor’s yellow-lab- admittedly he may be too big for such a toy. But he LOVES it. The material is very sturdy, and I like that there are the legs and body- it makes it easier to grab the toy from the dog’s mouth, but also minimizes getting your hands all slobbered up during a game of fetch.

The squeeker inside the toy is not the best, but I see this as an advantage, as this dog is obsessed with the squeek and will do whatever it takes to rip the toy apart if the squeeker is really loud and consistent.

That it is not in this toy also makes it not annoying to us humans. While the material is sturdy, I would not recommend this if you have two large dogs who enjoy tug-a-war. We tested out just how durable the toy is to being ripped apart, and it took a teenager and a large yellow lab about 30 minutes of off/on (mostly on) tug-a-war before the head fell off.

That said, we stitched the body up sans head and the dog still loves this toy.
