20 Best Toys For New Puppies (2023 Updated)

My 17 month old Golden Retriever has had one of these since we brought him home at 8 weeks old. We recently bought another one, the original one is still working, but it is so well loved that the fluff has flattened out and it isn’t very snuggly.

I could perform sewing “surgery” on it to add more fluff, but I wouldn’t want him to notice the stitching and begin to pick at it. So we got a second snuggle puppy to give him something more snuggly.

He still has his other one in his bedtime crate as well, and he does snuggle with both. I haven’t had the issue yet, 15 months later, of the first one having a defective heartbeat contraption. The new one so far hasn’t had any issues either.

When you put in new batteries, you hold the button down for at least 5 seconds, then it will steadily beat for about 2 weeks before the batteries die, at the earliest. Sometimes the batteries will last longer.

I don’t know if it is the particular batteries I’ve used, I just buy whatever bulk packages they have at the store. To me it is worth it, my pup stays calm with his pal(s). I know some people have said their dog seems terrified of the loud heartbeat, I’ve noticed depending on what the snuggle puppy is laying on or against can cause the heartbeat to sound louder or more muffled.

Like directly on the crate floor leaning against the metal sides of the crate, it gets loud. But on his bed surrounded by more fluffiness, not so loud. Also, one thing we did with him as a puppy as we introduced the snuggle puppy to him, we played with him with the toy, made it hop around and go into the puppy play stance.

Also we laid next to our puppy on the floor with the toy, and offered treats hidden underneath the toy, so he associated the snuggle puppy with good experiences from the beginning.

The gave this to us at the place we bought out dog when we got him at 4 months old. He’s a little over a year now and he still loves that thing even now, but more importantly, it has lasted!! I’ve bought this dog power chewer toys and extra hard blah blah blah toys and have had to throw them away 2 hours later because he destroyed them.

The only thing I hate about it is that Tank throws his head back and plays catch with himself and this thing BOUNCES! And because of its shapes, it’s not bouncing is a line, it’s flying off of everything like a wild bull.

But that’s not a product defect or anything. That’s a personal thing. Overall great product that my dog loves.

We have a puppy we fondly call “Chomps” and “Jaws” as she is teething and loves to bite down on our hands and fingers. We’ve spent a small fortune on various teething toys in efforts to retain our fingers.

Wasn’t sure how she would respond to this toy, but thought maybe the treat inside would inspire a little investigation and entertain her a few minutes. NOT! She had no interest in the bacon and cheese flavored cookie treat that goes inside this kong.

whether in or out of the toy. I assumed the chewy shape would help hold the treat but instead of intuitively using the toy as a treat holder. she sniffed it, bit it a few times and went on to other things to gnaw.

So far the kong and cookie was a bust for the puppy. We also bought the senior version of this toy for the older dog. He did bite off the piece of cookie protruding from the end of the toy, but that was it.

Left the rest of the cookie inside and had no interest in the toy itself. Ordered the canned liver flavor filler to put in these but it hasn’t arrived yet. Will update after receipt.

This ball costs more than others but it’s totally worth it! It may not crackle, squeak or have fuzz 2 pull off but it has enough give that my 65lb tough chewer loves chewing on it + it bounces so chasing it around, pouncing on it & playing fetch outside r a blast 4 him.

Also it’s the only toy I’ve got him that’s lasted more than a few days. He’s had it almost 2 months &the ball looks just like it did the day we got it. There r a variety of sizes available for any size dog u own.

I definitely recommend this toy for every dog owner that loves to chew & chase balls! It’s worth the price! It will last & ur dog will love it!.

I agree with most of the other reviews. A cookie will fall right out of the large opening and your dog will eat up the treats in no time. I can recommend this ball for moderately strong chewers. It gives with medium to strong bite pressure due to the hollow design.

It’s about as strong as, say. a Baby Kong or a Senior Kong. Maybe not for the serious highest pressure monster chewer who can burn through anything. The small size has been perfect for my Bull Terrier who’s on the small side at 55lbs.

The whole ball almost fits in his mouth but cannot pass into the windpipe. A larger dog or a stronger chewer might do better with the large. Don’t take your eyes off of the dog no matter what size you get.

The material can be torn and swallowed just like a Kong that’s starting to unravel on top. Great for fetch as it has a little bounce and is good for toss because it’s on the light side. But not for cookies so much.

These Kong balls, like every other Kong product we’ve tried, are incredibly durable, long-lasting and fun for the dog. Regarding the people who have reviewed it who “don’t care for the hole in the ball,” yikes.

This is a treat ball meaning that you put treats into the ball via the hole. While it is technically a ball, it’s a treat toy. Buy some Kong biscuits (or other treats), stuff them into the ball and call it a day.

Your dog will thank you. These are great, especially with our super-chewer Aussie mix.

Lol they did change. My shepherd is 107 lbs. I usually get the larger i-squeak ball Shaped like a baseball only because it’s less expensive. He really likes this one better because it used to be softer.

I had an old medium one from my older dog that passed away. It was missing the squeaker and my shepherd loves it. He chews real gently and loves the way it pops open and closed. I ordered 4 in my last order.

It took everything I had in my to get the squeaker out. I had to end up cutting it out with scissors. It turns out he hates it because it’s too hard. LOL Everyone is complaining about it being too hard.

Go figure. It would hold up to and aggressive chewer though. Anyhow I still love Chewy and so does Gregor!.

Like many Dog owners, I have purchased tons of toys, education, “dog tough”, cheap tugs, expensive name brand ones. and after 1 year this ball is STILL my German Shepherd Dogs favorite toy and it is durable.

The so called brand that looks like a tennis ball, they last less than 5 minutes. This one has been perfect for fetch and hide and seek. The squeaker did finally come out, however she takes this thing EVERYWHERE.

We take it camping across the USA, she take it to work with me, sleeps with it (as the pic shows) to the park. she constantly is throwing it and entertaining herself and always looking for a person to play with.

The durability has impressed me. I picked up a few as spares just in case this thing ever gets lost or shredded because it would devastate her.

The “heart” of any of Tulla’s babies is the squeaker. She’s got to make it squeal after she catches up to it. These balls are heartless. The squeaker is a split design, allowing air to escape. And for some unknown reason, they have a relief hole drilled, which lets air get out, past the squeaker.

Being an accomplished “dog-baby surgeon,” I have a variety of baby hearts ready for transplant. No luck here. The defective heart is fused to the rubber and resistant to any adhesive that I might want to have inside of Tulla’s mouth.

Nice size, nice squish, insufficient squeak.

Another great recommendation by a Chewy rep! The smallest size is perfect for my 11-week-old Yorkie, who enjoys both chewing it and sticking her snout through the middle to toss it around. It feels durable but isn’t a hefty weight, and eventually I may be able to smear PB on the inside to keep her double occupied.

For now, the texture clearly appeals to her (she’s just hit that massive teething phase) and she’s chewing this more than any other rubber toy she has.

This toy is super cute. It’s Huge. I have a big dog though 100 lbs. We are LSU fans so purchased that one for our German Shepherd. It’s made pretty good. Hasn’t had time to play with it yet but seems to be made alright.

I would not recommend it for destructive chewers though. However just regular chewing is ok.

I love that these are still around! I have a 9 month old black lab puppy. He chews on it and tugs with it and it hasn’t ripped…yet. I know it will at some point but it is taking longer than most toys.

The breeder we got our Staffordshire Bull Terrier from mentioned her dogs love this particular toy so much! I bought one and so did the other 4 littermates! All of them this is a favorite toy. From when she was a tiny puppy this has been my dog’s favorite toy! Still is and she’s over a year now! It’s gone through bloody teething and now rough okay and it’s still holding up somehow! Also been through the washing machine a few times (came out aweome!).

I bought a backup but it’s still alive and played with aggressively daily and it’s still holding up. The ears and the tail are just her favorite for tug 😆 the flinging and the noise is satisfying to her.

I recommend this for every dog! It’s a great toy!.

This one caught me off guard. It seems to literally be a soft, thin layer of fur over a plastic bottle. Very lightweight. The rattle sounds like its little beads inside. Our 40lb Doodle is not a heavy chewer so it stands up to her with no problem.

It is especially big around compared to most toys so its a bit of a stretch for her to get a good grip but she does manage. Mostly she likes the tail and the ears to chew and throw it around which is kind of surprising bc she does enjoy the clunky chew of other toys.

I do think this one may be too wide for her or the bottle may be a bit stiff. Its very cute in her pile of toys.

My German Shepherd loved this ball the moment I took it out. He LOVES balls but unfortunately he’s a super aggressive chewer and kills balls (he’s even taken out a traditional snow man shaped black Kong extreme).

I thought given that it said it was a 5 out of 5 for toughness I’d give this a shot. It lasted 10 days before the super chewer literally split it in half. This ball was great for indoors: it’s light weight, extra bouncy and dried quickly from slobber.

And my dog loved that it had give and he would spend hours every day chewing on it and dropping it in my lap to be thrown. But alas his jaw is greater than the 5 chomper rating from Planet Dog. I guess he’ll have to learn to love the solid heavy rubber balls from Kong and West Paw because anything with give just doesn’t last.

If you don’t have a super aggressive chewer I’d recommend the ball for you!.

My 50lb AmStaff loves treat dispensing toys. This one is a good size for her, maybe a touch large, but she can still pick it up in her mouth. We love that it is translucent so it’s easy to see if there is food in there.

And, the insert helps make it a little more challenging for the food to fall out which is also good. Two drawbacks: (1) It does not get clean on the inside. The package says to put soapy water in it, shake it, and let dry.

That does not get the food particles/dust out of it and it stays wet for a really long time. Both of these factors are probably because of drawback 2. (2) The texture is rubbery and kind of sticky-like.

As it rolls on the floor, it picks up pet hair like crazy. This is also why the food dust doesn’t come out of the inside – it’s stuck to the rubbery texture.

My sweet little mini schnauzer mix is super picky about food. She also hates eating the same flavors of food for each meal. After buying into the fresh food hype and trying The Farmer’s Dog only to have her hate it after a couple months on it (a waste of $250), we went back to our tried and true dog food: Weruva.

Since she hates eating the same flavors over and over, I order cases of different flavors of Weruva via autoship from Chewy every month. I was a little skeptical of this flavor because of the gelee form (more of a pate style than the chunky Weruva flavors we usually get) but she liked it a lot.

This has been added to our case rotation now. I love the high quality nutrition of Weruva and the fact that my super picky girl likes it so much makes it a no brainer for me.

My 74 lb Pit/Lab mix loved it as soon as he got it. His whole face lit up and he was soooo excited. Unfortunately, the squeaker was dead within 10 minutes. The fabric appears to be pretty durable, but as soon as the squeaker no longer worked, my pooch lost all interest.

Now, he picks it up every once in a while, bites down, no squeak, and just drops it. I figured if ANY manufacturer would made a durable squeaker, it would have been KONG. Unfortunately, they didn’t. :(.

I purchased three stuffed toys for our new puppy and the big roasted bone. Since she is a giant size Great Pyrenees but just 6 months old she can tear just about anything to shreds in minutes. So we supervise all the time with these soft toys.

She loves them but I decided to give her one at a time until she destroys it, then I’ll give her another one. So far she has been a good girl and she loves the sound it makes. As far as the roasted bone goes it is her new best friend and she Absolutely Loves it.
