20 Best Touhou Games On Steam (2023 Updated)

Disco Elysium is easily one of the most unique gaming experiences I’ve ever had. There is no combat, and while I initially thought this would be a detractor for me, it turns out it isn’t — I’ve put in close to 15 hours so far and every single minute of playtime has been a complete joy.

The writing in this game is hands down the best I’ve ever seen in a video game. It feels entirely natural and realistic (though there is a lot of profanity and some very graphic/adult descriptions from time to time).

It also has some of the most comedic and downright laughable moments and dialogue in any game. You have to experience it to understand. I love the world you explore. The soundscape is haunting and fitting.

The characters and your main NPC sidekick Kim are all extremely interesting and unique. The voiced dialogue, new to the Final Cut, is top notch too and really elevates all of the writing and conversations throughout the game to another level.

It’s fantastic. The overall gameplay loop is extremely addicting with there being tons of things to discover, interact with, doors to open, mysteries to solve, and it can all be done your way. The skill system is rewarding, and essentially ties into not only unlocking new dialogue opportunities with NPCs, areas to explore, and story progression but also results in you having conversations with the different parts of your psyche which is extremely interesting, often aiding though sometimes even hilariously wrecking your dialogue with characters or attempts to overcome some obstacle.

I’ve never quite experienced anything like this. But if you’ve played CRPGs before, the basic concept of game systems will feel comfortable. If you like point and click adventures, choice based dialogue decisions, and classic CRPGs (Baldur’s Gate, Divinity Original Sin II, etc) you will likely enjoy this game.

Even if you don’t usually enjoy these genres, I’d still recommend giving Disco Elysium the Final Cut a try. As stated at the beginning, this is one is the most immersive, entertaining, and wholly unique experiences I’ve ever had in gaming and I don’t say that lightly.

Great retro RPG w/ two 6 sided dice rolled for a myriad of checks pertaining to ones attributes. And there are many; many unusual, too. The water color aesthetics are splendid throughout the day/night cyle.

The main character is a mess from the beginning & trying his best to keep it together (by the use of narcotics, if one so chooses, though to the dismay of your colleague. ) Kim Kitsuragi is your parter in the beginning investigation of a hanged corpse dangling behind The Whirling Rags (the hostel you woke up in.

) All characters you meet have distinct & charming dispositions I must urge you to converse with. If you get stuck on a check, don or doff a piece of garb (you’ll come across a LOT) or allocate a exp point to an attribute to raise stats.

Or, save the ability point you’ve gained (you can stack multiple points) to use on a particularly hard ability check. This is a must play game. I can’t put it down. I can not praise this work of art any higher.

A fantastic story-based adventure. Extremely dialog heavy, (so be ready to read). If you like detective stories, this will be right up your alley. You’re free to play your character any way you want, including just straight-up being a drug-addled disaster of a human being.

A while back (before Dread was real), I was complaining about the lack of Metroid on Switch and a friend recommended Hollow Knight as a game to scratch that itch. Turns out, they were right. 🙂 This is the first game in a while to capture my attention.

I bought it in the middle of some vacation time and spent hours playing it each day until vacation ended. The visuals are fantastic and parts of the soundtrack give me shivers. I can’t recommend Hollow Knight enough.

My only complaint is that I found gameplay a bit twitchy using the native controllers. Once I started using my SNES-style controller (and its d-pad instead of the joystick), things improved dramatically.

If you like Metroid/Castlevania type games, buy this.

This game was recommended to me by one of my friends earlier this year, but it took me a while before actually getting a hold of it. I must say, I am very glad that it was recommended to me because this is a very well-crafted game in every sense of the word.

Even the packaging, which comes with a fully illustrated color manual and a map of the in-game world is more than what most million-dollar companies are willing to do. The game itself is no less impressive, mastering the Metroid/Castlevania style of gameplay while also staying true to an original take on the formula, adding in elements from games like Ori and Dark Souls to help keep things fresh.

For the price tag it’s quite a steal with how much they added into it. The base game boasts a large world to explore and a variety of platforming and combat challenges. On top of this, four additional downloadable content packs were added to it, increasing its replay value with additional difficulty modes and speed running challenges.

I have never been too eager to spend money on indie titles because I never know how much or what quality I will be getting for my money, but I can safely say that this is one game that stands out from the rest and can compete with some of the games that are made by the big-name studios.

Buy it if you have not!.

Hollow Knight is the masterpiece that everyone has already claimed it to be. It’s the type of game that slowly digs it’s claws into you while gradually feeding you crumbs of sustenance while you beg for more.

It’s strength lies in how well it conveys emotion through it’s areas and npcs. From calm brooding areas like the City of Tears to Deep Nest which will make even horror fans uneasy it always nails (Ha) exactly the mood it needs to.

The NPCs are so similar to NPCs in a game like Dark Souls where they are in and out of the game fairly quickly, but their designs and especially the “voicework” are so fantastic that they stick with you throughout the playthrough.

It’s difficulty can initially be a barrier for some, but then you git gud. A truly enveloping experience for all gamers, not just fans of the metroidvania genre. Art is a 10 Music is a 10 Gameplay is a 10 All of the DLC is included on the Cart.

Absolutely Remarkable.

This game is so simple yet so complex it really is a diamond in the ruff. I heard about this from the community of Dark Souls as it was labeled a more basic version of Dark Souls, They were not wrong.

This game is all about mastering your moves and becoming profoundly good at it, but it also makes you want to be good at it. The graphics are so innovative and unique and I just love that. This game so quirky and fun! The story line is basic but funny! Im not much for storylines but this being simple and clear cut was one that stood out to me more so than some other deep storyline games.

The price is also such a good deal you really can’t pass it up! This game is like a deal with the Devil, you buy it cause it’s cheap and its pretty difficult but you must beat it! For any older gamers it reminds me of Sunset Riders for the SNES as it is a side scroller and the bullets you shoot are in comparison to SSRs bullets.

Also slightly reminds me of a much more difficult Mario who knew Mario could be more difficult right? Im kidding I suck at Mario but this game really is a smile bringer and sucks you immediately in. If you’ve been thinking about buying it but weren’t sure.

BUY IT!.

I’ve been looking forward to Cuphead for a long time now. The art style always grabbed me and refused to let go. The game looks like a 1930s-1940s cartoon with modern colors. The enemies are varied and weird and the boss battles are memorable as heck.

However, this game takes it’s cues from the old school games that you may or may not have played in the 1980s and 1990s. If you ever spent hours upon hours playing old school games like Ghosts ‘n Goblins or Contra dying constantly and screaming with rage at times.

Well. this is THAT type of game. This is the type of game that you MUST master the controls and timing and even then the video game gods will curse you. You will have a flawless run going through the level and BAM! you lose your health from a couple of unlucky hits from enemies.

It can drive you up the wall, especially when you see how close you were to the end. However, the euphoria you feel when you finally conquer one of those aforementioned levels is worth it. If I had one major gripe with the game I feel that the control scheme for the shooting should be mapped to the right thumbstick.

It would allow for smoother aiming. Currently you can pretty much aim in eight directions and you’ll sometimes get hit by an enemy that comes at you from a degree you just can’t quite hit him from. But it’s a minor gripe.

Just for it’s art style alone Cuphead is worth the $20 price of admission. If you don’t mind replaying a level every time you die, Cuphead will keep you occupied for hours at a time.

First off, this game’s production value is through the roof. The 1930’s art, animation and music style is so on point that it can be a bit eerie at times. It’s reminiscent of old Steamboat Mickey, Betty Boop and Popeye cartoons of yore.

It looks like you are watching an actual cartoon. However you should know that this is NOT an easy to play game at all. Perhaps one of the hardest games I’ve played in recent memory. You will probably die at least 10 times before you can clear just one level.

My kids wanted to love this game so bad but it literally brought them to tears within the first 20 mins. They were begging for the pain to stop. Now when I mention the name Cuphead they give me a look of pure disgust.

That being said, the game’s not a lost cause. If you are persistent enough and research gameplay tips via google and youtube you just might be able to clear a level or two. I’d suggest changing your controller scheme if you find the controls funky.

Polygon had a pretty good scheme they’ve shared in an article. My other suggestion is to use your in-game coins wisely. Purchase the “gas bomb dash” move first, as it’s integral to getting through this game.

It will allow you to avoid damage as you dash past enemies. Then either get an extra HP or the “Roundabout” weapon. It takes some getting used to but it’s the largest projectile and has a boomerang effect that if held down as you play, will probably randomly save you from cheap kills as you run n’ gun your way to the finish line.

Last tip is the most important. PINK projectiles and enemies can be parried. In this game you NEED to Parry ALL the time in order to build up your power shots and even quickly revive a pal whos been “ghosted”.

My very last tip is to remember the enemy patterns as you go through levels. The bosses have patterns too but some are randomized. These are just a few minor tips, but honestly the only way to succeed in this game.

So just understand this will NOT be an easy game. At all. But! If you give it some practice you will be able to stay long enough to enjoy it’s charm. The developers actually hand drew everything and recorded actual live jazz bands to make this as authentic as possible to the 1930’s cartoon style, and for that I give this game a fifth star.

I love the idea and am planning to do my best at finishing it. But it’ll take a lot of convincing to get my kids to even look at the game again. Good luck!.

I love playing all of the Far Cry games, they are all so much fun and so exciting! But the Primal game in the series is one of my favorites by far. Even though they are speaking a “ancient”(made up) language it provides subtitles and the graphics are beyond amazing.

The scenery is beautiful, along with the animals. The gore is crazy realistic as well. You have to hunt for your own food to restore your health/energy. Search for different furs, plants, berries and other things to craft to get better and further in the game.

This game makes you feel as if you are right in the game, once you get into it you could be stuck playing for hours and not even realize how much time has went by. If you are looking for a new, fun , exciting, storyline game to get into this is something you should really check out you will not be let down.

I had never heard of this game, it seems it’s a side project to the main Far Cry games. My brother hounded me to get it and I’m so glad I did! It’s fun because it’s different to the usual shoot ‘em up games with war tactics and guns.

You get an awesome bow, spears, and best of all you get to tame predators that become your sidekick (you need it when everything is trying to kill you!) My favourite was the sabre, you can mark enemies and he will run after them and take them down.

You also have a Hawke which flows over and tags enemies for you. Sadly the ending was pretty lame, but all in all I was bummed it ended. It is fun to immerse yourself in a cave man world and do something completely different!!.

When this game was released I was unsure about it, thought it would be rubbish, being a Far Cry fan I eventually bought it. And Im really glad I did. Its much the same as all the other Far Cry games but with no guns or vehicles.

If you are into Far Cry and havent played Primal then I think you will be pleasantly surprised with this one. It isnt as bad as most reviews have said. Go on, get yourself a copy now.

Decent adaptation from the mobile version of the series. Everything looks better on a greater scale.

This game is a unique spin on the widely known Pokémon series. The gameplay takes all the aspects of Pokémon that fans love and mixes it up with double battle stamina-based system. The gameplay loop is fun but can also be challenging at some points which will require strategy.

Something to note is that it does require an internet connection to play so keep that in mind. My physical addition looked great as well so no problem with the disc or packaging. Overall, if you’re a big fan of Pokémon, you’ll most likely enjoy Temtem.

This is an online multiplayer game. It doesn’t work if you’re not able to connect online. I have it on the Nintendo Switch and I believe it uses the Nintendo online I pay for on the Switch. With all that being said I’ve really been enjoying the game and building my team.

If those things I said before don’t bother you give it a try!.

Pretty fun game. A bit harder than Pokemon, so more casual type Players might have trouble with it. I haven’t had any issues with it, no crashes or anything like that. If you like Pokemon you will probably like this as a break away from it.

If you’re reading this then you know Crysis, it’s all about great combat set within a crazy-detailed graphical environment. This game does not disappoint on either front, the graphics are literally the best in any game ever released, and no not by a *huge* amount but I think it’s clearly the best looking game ever made.

The combat is still a hell of a lot of fun and I was initially very skeptical about the crossbow as it sounded like a real gimmick since crossbows seem to be all the rage at the moment, I don’t know why.

However Crysis 3 does the crossbow right! It’s loads of fun to use and having to go retrieve your arrows so you don’t run out adds a little something to the gameplay for me. In short, if you like the Crysis series then this is definitely something you should buy and you should frankly be ashamed you haven’t already! The good: Fantastic graphics – The faces on the main characters are nothing short of breathtaking.

I’ve taken pictures of my monitor with my phone to show people, that’s how impressive they are! Fun, fluid combat – Once again you’re like some sort of super ninja who can switch between invisible stealth to outright tank only retreating to refill your suits power bar whilst hiding behind the nearest cover.

Then it’s back into the action again! Reasonably good storyline – I liked it right up until the last few bits, I thought the ending was too boring and the final boss far too dull for my liking. The bad: Short – The single player took me about 8 hours to complete and I really was taking my time wandering around and performing stealth fun kills rather than just running & gunning to get through it.

I’m not really complaining that it was 8 hours long, it felt long enough, but another couple of hours wouldn’t have hurt you know. It sure brings the pain to your GPU! I’ve got a GTX 680 and it wasn’t really enough for 2560×1600 on Very High so I managed to borrow my friend’s GTX 680 and ran it SLI which meant it was perfectly playable on Very High 😀 However anytime an in-game cutscene came on it dropped to 20 fps which was a real shame as it ruined the cutscenes a bit.

Classic SLI issue really. Anyway, it’s fun, buy it!.

If you know anything at all about Cryteks famous FPS series then youll find few surprises in the third installment of the Crysis series. To say that the graphics are breathtaking is a monumental understatement.

There were countless times where I stopped just to take in all the visual splendor the television screen was assaulting me with. Set in 2047, Crysis 3s version of a dilapidated New York City made me think of Mayan ruins with the streets and buildings reclaimed by nature.

After the awe-inducing setting became familiar and I actually had to get down to the business of saving the world or whatever cookie-cutter story was being thrown at me, the game started to lose a little of its appeal.

As a newcomer to the series, I feel that the story is rather generic and the characters are fairly forgettable. Dont mistake me: the voice-acting is great, the dialogue isnt too cheesy, and the facial animation leaves little to be desired.

But the entire time I was playing the campaign it felt like I was in a Michael Bay movie. For better or worse, it was just over-the-top sometimes. The designers take advantage of every opportunity they can to show off, either through constant explosions or the ever-present water that always seemed to be running down my HUD.

I get it, Im wearing a visor and you wanna show off how well you rendered water effects. Thanks. Fortunately, the campaign rapidly improves once you get past the first mission and youve become more comfortable with the nanosuit.

But where the game really shines outside of the graphics department is in the gameplay. This is especially apparent once you start to play multi-player. The ability to customize your weapon on-the-fly without having to pause the action is fantastic once you get the hang of it.

The abilities of the nanosuit that you wear are way more impressive than Master Chiefs Spartan armor. The ability to power jump, slide, cloak, vault, and basically parkour around during a firefight with other players who have the same capabilities is just plain fun! Crysis 3 may never usurp the multiplayer throne from the bigger guns, but there is enough depth and pleasure to be had here where itd be easy to lose track of time.

No review of Crysis 3 is complete without discussing the Predator Bow and how flippin sweet it is! Yes, its over-powered. Yes, it makes all the other already boring guns even more uninteresting. But who cares?! If you were a fan of Turoks bow on the N64 or you enjoy playing the Sniper class on Team Fortress 2, then youll have way too much fun with this weapon.

It appears that bows are becoming popular in entertainment, and that extends to games: Hawkeye in the Avengers movie, the new television series starring Green Arrow of all people, and all the artwork for the new Tomb Raider that depicts a roughed-up Lara Croft with bow in hand.

Instead of just falling into a trend, the bow is actually as cool as you would think, and even cooler on multiplayer when everyone can run around all cloaked and agile like a Predator from the movies.

Overall, Crysis 3 is a fantastic game. Its only when we start to dissect some of the particulars that we run into its shortcomings. And even those would probably not be half as disappointing if not for all the hype that was brewing around this games release.

Like most people, Crysis 3 was not my introduction to the series. I’d played previous installments and enjoyed them greatly, I was not at all opposed to the change from Jungle to Urban setting and was overjoyed when I heard Crysis 3 announced.

Sadly though, this failed to live up to expectations. The game play feels significantly more restricted (there’s a particular problem with using unplayable cutscenes to accomplish what the player could have by themselves).

The environments are not too varied and often come back to horrid, bland and grey as far as the eye can see. I wouldn’t even say it was a noticeable graphical improvement since 2. The story, without spoiling anything, is dreadful and frequent moments of “forced emotion” will make you feel uncomfortable as you’re meant to relate to 2d characters.

There’s also a quite heavy emphasis early in the campaign on stealth, no doubt to show off the only significant addition (The Predator Bow). The campaign will last you about 4-5 hours and I had to force myself to finish it, I see no reason to go back, even the few and far between set pieces aren’t worth showing off.

The multi-player is where the fun is, but it’s nothing you haven’t seen before. If you’ve played previous Crysis multi-player or even spent a significant amount of time in any Call Of Duty then you’ll find it uninspired.

RED DEAD REDEMPTION 2 out of 1 through 5 this is a 20. How can I comprehend the masterpiece of this game and the amazing character development and the incredible voice acting and the outstanding soundtrack? And best of all sets up perfectly for the first Red Dead.

Arthur Morgan Where do I start with him He is the perfect protagonist, in my opinion, the game sets him up as a simply hardened outlaw who lives to ride and kills to live with him and his gang but as you continue to play the story you get deeper and deeper into who he really is and it’s not only him it’s also with Dutch, and John, and Micah, and Javier, Bill (all these names are your gang members) we all see their true selves at the end of the game.

But Arthur changed the most because back then he was a ruthless man who gave no mercy or pity to others (if you choose to) But as you play as him he suddenly changes and shows that he really is a good man (again if you choose to have high or low honor for Arthur).

As you continue to get higher honor you see his character development as he helps his gang and other important characters like Rains fall and Eagle flies they played a huge part in showing his true self.

And Tuberculosis also played a major part in changing his life, and not only that but John and his family, Tilly, Ms. Grimshaw, Mr. Pearson, Mary-Beth, Even Uncle. Arthur redeemed himself by trying to save as many as he could and get justice to those who deserved it.

His passing was one of the most heartbreaking moments for gamers and It gets even better when you then Play as John Marston (AKA The main protagonist of the first Red Dead Redemption game) Arthurs Good friend and brotherly figure, Together with his former gang members Charles and Sadie who the game will introduce you to as the game progresses through the story.

They hunt and avenge for their good friend and get the retribution he deserved and cuts into the sequel to red dead redemption the entire story is amazing from beginning to first. with breathtaking graphics and unmatchable features that you and all the people in red dead redemption 2 have (your hair and beard literally grows and flows in the wind that’s how amazing it looks).

you have so many strangers and side missions that you can interact with, and it just gets better and better hunting legendary animals, treasure hunting, secretly unlocking weapons that aren’t supposed to be unlocked yet the list goes on, the soundtrack matches perfectly to each mission and gives you a feeling of intense excitement and a feeling that makes you cry, now there are some critics and gamers that have a problem with horse riding because it takes to long, but personally, I enjoyed every moment riding on a horse it was cool, and people also say that the controls are clunky and weird but again in my opinion they’re not it’s pretty good to me and another thing the controls are just like GTA 5 so I don’t understand why people say it’s bad but it just is to them but opinions don’t count in a rating.

The gamer has all these amazing things RED DEAD REDEMPTION 2 if I could give higher ratings I could this game deserves more than a 10/10 it deserves a 100/10.

This is the most incredible and beautiful game. The landscapes are epic and have even fooled television stations into featuring screen grabs as viewer photos. Once you hit chapter 2 (chapter 1 is the tutorial), the incredible open world is yours.

Experiencing it for the first time is a marvel. The AI is incredible. All the animals and npc characters have lives of their own and you can spend time just watching in amazement as wolves play, grizzly bears scratch their backs, you can even canoe down mountain rivers and watch bear cubs, etc.

I guarantee you will bond with your horses as if they were real. The gameplay is engrossing for both experienced gamers and newbies alike. I have spent thousands of hours on this game with no plans to stop.

The story is rich, fun yet heartbreaking. Truly magnificent game everyone should experience.

I used to be in the top 5 streamers in the world for this game from release for a handful of months afterwards. I have over 1K hours just live poured into exploring, nukes, photos and trying so hard to love each glitch or bug.

No more. Fallout is one of my favorite game series! I’ve played every single one. I own fallout merch up and down. I LIVE EAT BREATHE the wastelands – this isn’t it. I own this game on both console PC.

I spent a year trying to make excuses for why it was okay everything was broken, why we’d been lied to over and over, or why the game was virtually unplayable 40% of the time after patches. I would bounce back and forth between console and PC, laugh things off and hope they’d get better, I was doing interviews on podcasts instead talking about characters or the future patch notes.

This game is a disaster. Anything they promise is a joke or lie covered up by a broken mess Or microtransaction. Their customer support is unresponsive. The game STILL doesn’t work, and their response to this was a subscription program for double the amount of the initial overpriced game a year? When their tag line motto is a meme of “it just works” as an excuse for why NOTHING does? You know it’s bad.

Each time I try to log back in nothing has changed. It’s a broken glitchy mess that doesn’t even feel like a fallout game anymore. Instead of fixing their content – they added subscription paid vinyl optional flooring for your bases and spotless pianos or curtains.

Folks bases don’t even look like a wasteland anymore – it’s sims. The only people who can play are paying $100/yr for extra “stash space” on top of their $60 game. Not worth it. Save your money. Yikes.

This is really great game. Game play is really good. I love games like this before you have more freedom to choose what character you want to be good or bad. And with hundreds of places to go, including thousands of weapons and items to choose from.

Nothing you can asked for. Great graphics as well with 4 GB graphic card Ndivia GTX 1050ti I’m using on my gaming PC plays like a charm. Great hd sounds from the graphic card as well. But you might have some issue for installing this game.

Xlive. dll files are not included with game which is surprising to me. You must go online install Windows live to get the Xlive. dll file to game to play with your PC. Which I did not get with the disc.

That’s the only catch. Other than that it’s play well with best OS Top of the line in the market Windows 10 Enterprise software version 1903. I can’t wait to get the fallout 76 I’m a big fan of fallout games.

I highly recommend this game if looking for survival gaming.

Best game of the year. One of my favorite games. The replay value is unstoppable. I wouldn’t improve it best as is. Definitely enjoyable to play. Many of hours of fun. Definitely recommend this game to others.

Fallout games are amazing.

Lovely graphics in this physics puzzle game. Sometimes the physics gets wonky on some levels depending how to attach stuff, but otherwise found this game entertaining and beautiful to play through. Played this with a friend and we laughed at all the oops fail moments.

Plenty of levels for the price.

Came exactly when expected. It’s a new copy, still in factory plastic. All included download codes were functional. Seller responded quickly when I had a question about my order as well. All in all, great experience purchasing from them, and I’m excited to start my new games!.

Love that we finally got this collection on all systems! Great to finally play it from the beginning & I love the style of this game. It’s like The Lost Vikings but to a whole new level!

Although it borrows a lot of things from Guilty Gear, this is a fresh start if you like GG series, but youre tired of the same game over an over, with the same characters every time. Is good to say that its not a mere clone, BlazBlue has enough elements to stand by itself.

The gameplay is similar: your character has normal moves, special moves, and super special moves you excecute using 50% of the local gauge (Heat Gauge here), and you have a 1-hit-KO move, but in BlazBlue is not a “desperate move” you can do when you are losing, its more like a Stylish Finish, since you can only do it in the last round, when your oponent has 20% of healt or less (which can be ereased with a normal super special anyway).

BlazBlue is more focused on performing combos on grounded enemies and at some extent aerial opoenents too. Instead of a “dust” button, yo can send flying an oponent with simple moves. Theres a “Drive” button, wich allows each character to use the “specialty” of each one, difering between characters (one use a living bo, some other use huge revolvers, another one uses a huge sword, etcetera).

This “specialty” is used in combos, and in some cases to set ‘traps’ to your oponent, being the main force of each character. One thing you should notice is the low difficult setting. Usually when I play a fighting game, I play it on normal (or whatever they use to measure the difficulty, like the level 4 in the old arcade fighting games) and have a lot of troubble with the final boss, at least the first times, when im still getting used to the control scheme.

But in BlazBlue I played at normal difficulty, and it took me a couple “credits” to beat the boss. That the case, skillfull players will have no trouble beating it the first time, so I reccomend using higher difficulties.

In all, the characters are well balanced. You will like some of them, while others feel like taken out from a character mass factory (I mean, clich characters). But shurely theres one youll like.

The characters are so different from each other, the story is actually good and makes sense, the characters really distinguish from each other and have no real clones, and the fighting is easier to learn than other fighters, yet has tons to master.

Capcom is a company responsible for much invention in the fighting game field, and of its hit and miss attempts to push the medium forward, X-Men vs. Street Fighter was the defining point in a new era of ‘manic’ fighting games.

With the action cranked to eleven, it redefined the genre in a new, frenzied form. Although Arc System Works’ Guilty Gear is no idle rip-off, it has drawn influence from Capcom’s crossover series. Even if its complexity can be eluding, with beautiful anime styling, heavy-metal themes and wildly overblown combos, there’s no denying its spectacle.

With Guilty Gear, the Yokohama-based developer has not only raised the profile of 2D fighting games over the last ten years, but has itself become a recognised power in the field. In light of this success it’s unfortunate to learn that, through a legal loophole, Arc System has lost the Guilty Gear rights to SEGA Sammy Holdings.

It’s no surprise then that it’s urging fans to adopt its latest fighting game, BlazBlue, in its place. Running on Taito’s Type X2 hardware, BlazBlue is one of the first 2D fighting games to be designed from the ground up in high definition.

It’s very similar to Guilty Gear in style, with similarly vibrant graphics and an even crisper display. The backgrounds are in 3D, but with enough detail and colour depth to sit comfortably with the foreground sprites.

Initially the designs don’t quite leap out at you like some of the better Guilty Gear locales; but little touches, like the influence of certain moves on Rachel’s rose garden and some impressive background activity, really lend the game atmosphere.

Although the high-definition display hasn’t improved the animation much beyond Arc System’s already excellent standard, BlazBlue’s ten original characters are distinct, colourful and vivid. But, despite obvious artistic similarities, they aren’t as initially striking or appealing as the Guilty Gear line-up.

With Ragna, the sword-toting Sol Badguy replacement, it’s clear Arc System hasn’t lost its affection for belts and buckles. Blond-haired Jin bears a close resemblance to Ky, as does his female counterpart, the gun-toting and annoyingly shrill Noel.

Tager is an obvious stand-in for Potemkin, steamrolling your energy bar with a repertoire of debilitating grab attacks, and Rachel and Carl have the whole gothic thing going on. Arkune, the game’s token ‘weird’ character, presents the first opportunity to play as a demon from a Miyazaki flick, his warped design lifted straight from Spirited Away.

BlazBlue isn’t as female-heavy as Guilty Gear, with Litchi being the only one to sport a set of proper high-definition boobs. The jury is out on what creepy cat-like Taokaka is meant to be, and that just leaves Bang, a fairly uninspired Ninja whose voice acting lends him great individuality.

What does stand out about the character roster is the amount of effort that has gone into giving the characters a tangible personality. The back-stories are particularly strong and shrewdly implemented.

For instance, Noel and Jin’s speech changes when they meet in battle, even extending to things they shout when throwing projectiles. The first thing that’s apparent about BlazBlue’s fighting system is tha.

It comes down to this: buy blazblue! Why? There many reasons, but the main and most important one is basically this: Blazblue is awesome and its a great gaming experience. At a first glance you can tell what this game is about – 2D fighter with 12 characters who carry a weapon in order to destroy the opponents.

You might look at this game as the “natural evolution of the Guilty Gear series” (this expression is being used over and over to describe this game), so you can expect great paced combat and lots of combos.

Now, in this quick review i’m going to talk about the basic stuff: characters, graphics, gameplay, online and training mode. If you don’t usually play fighting games you’ll probably think: “training mode? What the heck?”, but a good training mode is the lift one needs to get the combos on the road.

This game has a great character rooster and you will certainly find at least one character you like. Even tough there are only 12 (yes, it’s not that much), you can find a vampire girl who can throw lightning frogs at you and controls the wind, a white samurai with an awesome gigantic sword and even a kid who fights along with a soulless doll who uses its claws to beat its opponents to the ground.

Each and everyone of these characters are anime style and we’re talking about high definition, so if you’re an anime lover, you’ll “fall in love” with Blazblue’s atmosphere. Moving on. Gameplay! Yes, gameplay! Just thinking about the joy of playing this incredibly fluid and fast game makes me want to stop in time and get my hands in my ps3 controller lol! Well, maybe i’m overreacting, but the gameplay is that good.

You can play the classic arcade mode, but you also have a score attack mode (basically a survival mode when you aim to get the best high score possible and top online leaderboards) and a story mode. This game mode is actually pretty fun, since you get to know some characters and their “drive” to fight.

However, all of this wouldn’t be great if Blazblue didn’t have a great online to match. Well, rejoice people, because Blazblue’s online mode is almost flawless. With a good connection, you will experience almost no lag in ranked on online matches, and will be able to combo at will without any problems.

There is only two major problems though: quitting a match before it ends won’t penalise “chicken” players and everyone seems that only wants to fight stronger opponents – which can make difficult to get online matches sometimes.

And finally, the training mode. Since this is a fighter that relies mostly on combos, a training mode with extensive training options will certainly contribute to perfect one’s abilities. For example, you can set the CPU to block every attack after your character’s first hit, forcing you to string quick paced combos with no recovering chances to your opponents.

Sometimes, you’ll find even harder to combo in training mode than agains’t real players, because the CPU achieves perfection in recovery timing (something many players don’t).

Euro Truck Simulator 2 is the best example of a game that has a simple concept that it builds off of and becomes this massive giant of a game that you will fall in love with. The graphics are amazing and even if you don’t like them or think they aren’t good enough and computer can handle it, there are graphics enhancing mods that give amazing fresh looks to your game.

Or maybe you are on the other side of the horse and you have a really old computer. That’s perfectly fine as well since even on the lowest graphical settings the game still looks great and it runs really smooth.

Also, by altering some actual gameplay settings (such as the probability of rain) you can boost your performance even further. A steering wheel controller is not necessary to play, I have played several hours using only my keyboard, but it definitely raises the experience by A LOT, and there’s absolutely no escape, once you are addicted and loving the game, you WILL spend money on one.

There are a lot of DLCs, but all of them add enough content to be worth the price they are asking for. The devs recently added an official multiplayer function to the game called “Convoy” where you can play with up to 8 players and deliver cargo with your friends or alternatively, either join a random convoy lobby, or become the lobby itself since creating a Convoy game is as easy as clicking a button.

I am not going to pretend that this game is flawless, I have fallen through geometry a couple of times and have seen the AI do some interesting things, but if you have a passion for immersive simulators, this game is a must in your library.

If you are still uncertain, the game has a playable demo on Steam, which I highly recommend checking out for making the decision.

Great game as long as you love driving trucks and sims. Can be long trips with no “speed-up/jump-to”! Well written, plays well. Work for others or start your own trucking Co. Big range of customisable trucks.

It CAN work with kb+mse, but is MUCH better with a wheel and pedals. Don’t expect to recognise your home town, but the road network is fairly accurate. The Platinum edition has 8 extra add-ons/games included.

Unlike other simulators, the Driver can start off in what I call easy mode using the minimum amount of controls, and as you gain experience you assign more buttons for even more commands in the Sim. I am very happy with Euro Trucks.

it really is a brilliant Sim. I hope to be getting some more add-ons for it.

I’m just going to get straight into the meat of the game and put my conclusion at the end. There are 3 gameplay modes: Campaign, Multiplayer, SnapMap. Campaign and Multiplayer are self explanatory. In SnapMap you can create your own maps and play maps others have created.

I’ll give an overview of the positives and negatives, mostly of the campaign mode. Positives: – fast paced action: constantly on the move, no aim down sights for most weapons, no reloading ammo, always sprinting, have to keep moving otherwise demons will overrun you – platforming is done right, it helps change the pace up and is fun – unique weapons each with 2 upgrade paths – secrets found through the levels (secrets include the ability to replay old Doom levels) – armor and runes upgrades which add more depth and abilities – codex which gives you lore and detailed information about the world and demons of Doom – story/setting is interesting and keeps you enticed the whole game moving you between Mars and HeII – campaign is long and took about 11 hours to beat (not including all the challenges and secrets to be found) – mission select – able to replay old missions and pick up missed collectibles and finish challenges – Multiplayer: lots of variety in skins, fast paced, can transform into a demon – SnapMap: has some amazing levels that people have created, easy to make your own level Negatives: – bugs that prevent some challenges from being completed and some trophies from popping up (played on most recent patch 1.

06) – lack of variety in demons – too fast paced for some (friends complained about making them dizzy) – indoor environments can sometimes become bland – Multiplayer: levels are bland, players are massive bullet sponges, unlocking skins is completely random – SnapMap: not enough variety in the pieces you can place, no outside environments If you played the original Doom, you will love this classic reboot.

If you haven’t played the original Doom, then you will be in for a very tasty treat. This game is oozing with personality. If you are even slightly interested in single player FPS games, then YOU MUST pick this game up.

I don’t even play FPS games anymore but this game just reignited my enthusiasm for the genre. The multiplayer is fun although there are many games out there that do a better job but the campaign mode is where it is at.

It will keep you hooked for days and even after you’re done, you will find yourself wanting to replay the game. It’s that good! If you have the time and money, then I suggest you invest in Doom, a game that will entertain you for many days.

DOOM changed gaming in the 90s with its fast paced and brutal first-person action. Since then shooters have reduced the pace and increased the filler. Even Doom 3 succumbed to the prevailing trends, slowing the movement speed and placing the player in claustrophobic environments with no more than a few enemies to challenge the player at once.

DOOM (2016) returns to the franchises roots and pushes it to the extreme that modern hardware has made possible. There is no button to sprint. Your character charges full speed ahead at all times. The game doesn’t dole out the enemies in small groups.

It throws down the gauntlet and unleashes the horde. From a bloodied Mars base to hellish landscapes the game takes the player to another place and time that shines visually and disturbs graphically.

The sound is spot on with the weapons thumping the bass and packing a punch. Not merely satisfied to revamp the classic gameplay there are added challenges that can be found within each level as well as upgrade options for your armor, stats, and weapons.

This game is a love letter to the early days of the first person shooter but it also manages to feel new. It demonstrates that the elements that made the FPS revolutionary in the 90s are still brilliant today.

This is a good time to be a FPS fan. There’s been a renaissance of sorts with current-gen where multiplayer used to come first, single player stories and fun second. The script has been flipped with the revivals of both Doom and Wolfenstein: the New Order.

(Heck, Wolfenstein has NO multiplayer at all, and is oh, so much better for it!) While Wolfenstein focused primarily on story-telling, Doom hits the ground with “fun first, and immediately” as its mantra, and, like Wolfenstein, is now one of the two FPS games I simply won’t entertain the idea of ever trading in.

Unlike Doom 3, which was met with mixed reviews, but undoubtedly agreed upon that it signified a change in the series, Doom goes back to what made the first two so great and so re-playable. Wave after wave of demons, mass firepower, ammo, health, and power ups galore, and the unapologetic feeling of glee of just plunging headfirst into battle.

Everything about Doom is just a throwback not only to greatness, but to an originator of the entire FPS genre, except where it matters: graphics, sound, and the mild improvements to gameplay that keeps a series moving forward.

It doesn’t make the same overall changes to Doom that Doom 3 tried to, making it feel like a different game altogether using a license to characters; no, it returns to its roots wholeheartedly, and in my opinion, is a much better game for it.

For lovers of the first two games, original levels are hidden in each new level, begging to be found and added to your collection to go back and play for nostalgia’s sake later. Don’t hesitate on this- and if you haven’t played Wolfenstein, order or pick that up from Best Buy, as well, along with its standalone, Old Blood.

The folks at id/ Bethesda have given us two absolutely FUN games to play that pack more freshness than the past decade of Call of Duty has. Support is needed to ensure we keep receiving these types of FPS that place emphasis on a single player experience that, at minimum, matches the fun of multiplayer.

With the announcement that id/ Bethesda is also reviving Quake, we can only hope it marks the full return of the 3 biggest players of FPS that I grew up with. After playing these first two, Quake will be a no-hesitation purchase, for sure.

I rarely play below normal difficulty, but parts of this game were just too much, even on easy, the first time around. In fact, I probably died more on this game’s easy level than I do playing Call of Duty and most other shooters on Hard.

They throw a LOT at you, and the way bosses become almost common baddies after you beat them for the first time, it’s a challenge. There’s certainly no place for stealth or strategy at any point of this shooter.

The story felt more action oriented than past installments. Even the early games could make me a little nervous when a big bad monster was first introduced. Not so much here, whatever the reason. My only real gripe with the game has to do with the auto-saves.

This game has a LOT of crazy jumping and climbing. I fell a lot. In most cases, it puts you back at the very start of the jump/climb level, rather than close to where you actually fell. As someone who didn’t really like the jumping levels, this was especially frustrating.

In one sequence toward the end I started with full health, ammo and full armor, but fell so many times in the attempt that I drained both health and armor completely and died. When I respawned I only had 25% health 30% ammo, and no armor, which was about what I had when I finished the preceding mega-battle.

But I left the battle area with full health, ammo, and armor, traversed a long corridor, even opened a major door, so returning me to a save so far away was more than uncalled for. Anyway you slice it that was just plain bad programming.

I played this game on the PS5 – the PS4 version will play on the PS5, but it also has a free PS5 upgrade that popped as soon as I inserted the disc. Fortunately, the PS5 controllers aren’t as loose as the PS4 generation controllers always were, so navigating through jumps were a little less frustrating than they might have been had I played through on our PS4-Pro.

The free steelbook that Best Buy included (separately) was nice. I was surprised they still had them. It always pays to buy physical. Sad that younger generations may never know what they’re really giving up buying digital.

Doom: Eternal picks up where the previous Doom leaves off, with the Doom Slayer coming to Earth to fend off the demon invasion. This sort of mirrors the plot of the original Doom 2, but the story is much more fleshed-out here.

The first-person shooting gameplay is more frantic than ever and will definitely put your skills to the test on the Hurt Me Plenty difficulty or above. Earning your resources back during intense skirmishes requires skillful use of melee executions, the chainsaw, and the new shoulder-mounted flamethrower; you’ll need to keep moving constantly in almost every encounter.

Most familiar firearms make a return, although some changes have been made in their secondary functions. such as the Super Shotgun now having a grappling hook which can latch onto foes at mid to close range.

The campaign is a respectable length and there are lots of secrets to find in each level, so expect to have a guide handy to find them all. The new Battle Mode is a welcome addition too, which allows players to fight as the demons.

If you liked the last Doom, you’ll enjoy this one.

Doom 2016 on PS4 was an exercise in patience. The load times were pretty atrocious. They would’ve been acceptable if they only appeared on level load, but dying and reloading would also put you through that lengthy loading screen.

Doom Eternal fixes this issue with the Lives system. Though it does take away from the challenge, it provides a much less frustrating experience. This, combined with more movement and traversal options, helps make for a faster-paced shooter game.

The combat is pretty cleverly designed. When the player is low on health, they can freeze enemies. When they are low on armor, they can burn enemies. And when they are low on ammo, they can chainsaw enemies.

Enemies themselves become resources. The enemy variety lends to natural incentive to use each and every weapon as well. There are 2 mods for each weapon that change how that weapon functions. I myself found a favorite mod for each weapon and never really switched it up but I never felt like I was lacking in combat options.

Altogether these systems keep combat engaging from start to finish. Exploration is worthwhile, providing you with upgrade points, keys, and collectibles. Obtaining all collectibles is made easier with a map that’s broken up into sections and a count of collectibles in each section.

Once you reach the end of a level, you can freely warp from section to section. Story isn’t normally a highlight for the series, and here it’s not much more than save mankind from being overrun by demons.

But it does lead to some grand setpieces and bossfights.

So the game was okay, but the issue is I got it originally thinking I could play with my friends. But due to me having a ps4 and them having a Nintendo switch mini we can’t play together. The graphic are good and plays well.

But i would be happier if I could cross play with other systems. I would definitely recommend the game, but if you want to play with friends make sure that you have the same system.

My nephews got this for Christmas on their PS3 and asked me to come play. Up until then, I’d seen this game on the shelves, but had no interest in it (I blame the logo – I don’t know what it was about it that seemed lackluster).

AFTER playing it with them, I was immediately checking where I could get it, which was difficult following Christmas. I was able to secure this copy and have been playing with them online or at their house several times a week since then.

A note about online play – PS4 requires use of Playstation Plus, which I had no interest in. I signed up for a 2-week trial while I searched for the PS3 version of the game because PS3 doesn’t require any paid service for online play.

Either way, though, I was able to play with my nephews as the game supports cross-platform play – you can have a mix of PS4 and PS3 players all on the same online game. When playing by myself, I prefer the PS4 version.

When playing with others, I just upload my character and my map to the cloud (a Terraria feature), then download them onto the PS3 (mine for online or others’ for local play). I wrap up our games by uploading my character and map back to the cloud so that I can get that progress downloaded onto my PS4.

This game is awesome and everything about it makes for really fun multiplayer, whether local (my preference) or online. There’s tons to explore and do, along with loads of different tools, tactics, and adventures.

I highly, highly recommend this game.

After seeing friends of mine laugh and have a blast while playing Terraria, I decided to purchase this game because it seemed like I was missing out on all the fun. Fortunately, I made a great decision, a decision that was worth every penny.

For someone who enjoys playing games that involve exploring and creativity, this game fits these two things/interests perfectly. I loved being able to roam around finding resources in order to make weapons such as the Excalibur.

The multiplayer experience was incredible, I was able to play online with smooth gameplay without having someone’s connectivity status interrupt or cause the game to lag. However, what I did not like so much is that other players can come into your world, take your stuff and leave with the items.

But the overall the positives, such as the free roam experience, greatly overshadow the smallest of problems and worries such as the one previously stated. If you are into games that involve extensive exploring and creativity, I would strongly recommend you to try out this game.

If your into playing with your buddies to take down other clans then thus gamers for you. If your just into building structures the PVE has you covered. Do t expect full nudity on consoles if that’s your thing but otherwise it’s a great game to play.

Get it on PC if you want the Mods though.

Very detailed open world. Rpg style game. You can play singleplayer, pvp, pve or a mix of pvp pve. Other players can Afk your base in pvp. Fun grinding so not really repetitive, more rewarding. Hard working dev team.

Tame animals and humans to protect your base when your not on. Amazing build almost anywhere mechanics. Highly addictive rewarding game 10/10. New spin on ark like survival games. Tags: pve, pvp, rpg, building, personal needs, drinking, eating, gathering, temperature, energy.

You can easily find yourself drawn into this game for hours. The graphics are fantastic. Lots of fun exploring and building. I often refer to it as an adult minecraft. lol. It does leave a bit to be desired in the multiplay area.

It desperately needs some way to track your friends in game. You have to visually be looking at your friends characters to see them. If someone wanders off, there is no mini map showing where they are, no way to form a party.

Kinda defeats the purpose of co-op play. They need to fix this. Otherwise , enjoyable.

This should of been an Xbox Live Arcade/PSN game. I bought it for a decent price here at Zavvi, so don’t feel that hard done by, but it’s not one of Codemasters best. I used to love the Michigan Destruction Derby races on Grid, they were very popular online even a year after release.

Codies obviously saw this, read the stats and saw what people liked it, and made a game which they thought would be my cup of tea. Well it’s not bad, but it’s not good either. There is little innovation here, or anything you haven’t really seen in DiRT 1/2/3 or Grid (where’s Grid 2?!).

It’s a mix of sort-of racing with special events (Hoonigan rubbish basically, if you know it). It is tedious stuff, going off jumps, doing donuts (American spelling in the game), blasting through markers.

It’s filler really. Then the actual races don’t feel much like races, of course it’s very arcade-ish, but Grid and Dirt did it better without the OTT. Destruction derbies aren’t as much fun as you think and get old quick.

There is little depth other than to “upgrade” you’re cars stat’s, you do not buy parts or change mechanical settings like Forza/GT. It is basic and limited. There isn’t much reason to come back to the game and I’ve only played it for a few hours.

Also the multiplayer seems very quiet after only a short time from when the game was released. Doesn’t bode well. My advice is buy Grid and/or Blur. Both must be under a tenner now and are far far better driving games.

Blur is wicked arcade fun, and Grid has the semi-serious realistic racing, with much more depth than Showdown.

Dirt: Showdown is a gem. Why? Because it’s pure fun. Yeah, it’s an arcade, but this game was meant to be simple to master, and once you do, you’ll enjoy it. Racing, derby, tricks – it’s all here. And the joyride mode is excellent.

It was a real pleasure to do all 150 tricks. It’s too bad there are only 2 playgrounds. There are also 4 tours, each consisting of 16 races, and plenty of vehicles to choose from. All in all, it’s a great arcade racer.

Just don’t take it seriously and don’t expect it to be a rally simulator.

Dirt: Showdown is a very “arcadey ” driving game. It does what it does pretty well, that is to provide quick fun with crazy races and car-smashing shows (quite à la Destruction Derby). There are some hooningan events, with hoonigan tricks, drifts and mini-games.

Although the number of venues and cars (few of them real) is not huge, the game is quite fun and satisfactory. If you are looking for a “Destruction Derby 2012” experience, this looks fine. Just don’t expect any of the driving simulation or technical intricacies of previous Dirt games.

Many say it’s like Endless Space, but that’s not true. It differs a lot. Since this is a Paradox game, it is worth getting DLCs one way or another. It is worth getting it.

It may suit some people but for me games are a bit of light relief at the end of the day. I tried to get to grips with it but found it far to complicated. Passed on to my children with similar feelings about it.

I find it quite redundant to have a physical copy, when only half of the game is on there. The only point left is to save download space, which isn’t exactly handy when there’s still half a download left.

This is such a phenomenal game. It’s one of the only games I have ever played that it’s really just impossible to put what this game is into words. But, if I try, I can say that this game is many things.

One, it’s relationships. Romantic relationships are an option with most of the characters in the game, and for any character you don’t get with romantically, meaningful friendships are the thing. Of course, it’s up to you what your relationships look like.

If you want to be enemies with everyone, go for it. If you want to date, marry, divorce the town (people have done it, I’ve seen it and it’s so funny), then live your dreams. But for me, it’s about a cute little love story for my character and all the unique friends she makes along the way.

Two, it’s farming. But so much more than farming. It’s growing crops, yes, but it’s also buying seeds, tending crops, and turning crops into products like juice, honey, and food. The farming in this game is stellar because listen, I am not usually someone who enjoys farming games but in this game I can’t get enough of it.

Three, it’s mystery and exploration. There are seemingly endless quests, mysteries, and areas to be unlocked. I’ve been playing for years and I still have so much more to do. Four, it’s absolutely adorable animals.

You can have a cat or a dog for your household and then beyond that you can buy a horse, get a barn, and barn animals ranging from cows, to sheep, to truffle finding pigs (this is where the money is at fyi), to (spoiler?) little dinosaurs.

Five, it’s holiday/special events. The game has a calendar and for each season there are unique events. Some you might recognize as reflections of our holidays, like “Spirits Eve” or “Egg Festival,” but others are more unique like the “Flower Dance” or “Night Market.

” Every character also has a birthday and so another challenge lies in trying to figure out what to get them each year. Six, battle/fighting. Yeah, you get to collect weapons/armor and fight some difficult bosses while exploring intense caves.

I am almost definitely missing stuff here because like I said earlier, this game is impossible to sum up. It’s just entirely unlike anything else in that it is a combination of almost every game aspect out there.

I really cannot recommend this game enough. It’s one of the best games I have ever played and a game I know I will always return to.

Excellent game, the physical version also includes all dlc that has been released on the switch. Just a great game to sit back and enjoy if you like that old school Harvest Moon (SNES) feel, with minor combat/mining.

It features Online coop and also Local coop, and it does have a splitscreen coop, but i have not tried that specific one. The online coop is where its at, amazing gameplay, get a friend and build a farm together, explore the mines together, and just enjoy.

One really nice thing about the coop is that the host can start game online, and lets say the next day you are in the same place as your buddy, you can host the same save file but in Local coop, so you can play along with a friend while on an airplane without the need for internet, and use the same save file when you are miles away in different states through online connection!.

I have played on pc, PlayStation, and now as a new switch owner since 2017. The switch controls are by far the best, and very similar to PS4. Stardew Valley is my home away from home. For at least half the price of regular games, you get your own little world of farming, mining, crafting, fishing, decorating, dialogue, events, and endless cut scenes.

Complete creative freedom, adorable story lines, challenging but not impossible goals and quests, and years worth of entertainment. As a new player it will be a little rough in the beginning, and I highly recommend watching a handful of YouTube videos to avoid mistakes that are nearly impossible to fix, as well as join the subreddit r/stardewvalley for questions and tips.

I passionately recommend Stardew Valley to all friends and family members. It is so much more than any review or gameplay will show you. Has a wide range of cross play but because of the dynamic of the game, I suggest playing alone to let it be an oasis of accomplishment.
