20 Best Touch Screen Laptops Under 1000 (2023 Updated)

I purchased the laptop on 6/14 but had to order it because the store didn’t have it in stock. The salesperson was very helpful in getting me through the process as I’ve never ordered an item or had one shipped to my home before.

It arrived on 6/17 and thought the Dark Moss color would bother me but I actually like it. I also like the smooth metal finish. Upon getting it set up which was much simpler than I thought it would be, I moved copies of my files from the cloud and downloaded only the apps I wanted to put on it, keeping it as uncluttered as possible.

Both transitions went smoothly and even getting my Office 2016 up and running was no problem. Although I’ve only had it for a couple of weeks it is a pleasure to use, though the numeric keypad has taken some getting used to because the touchpad is off center, it is something I wanted when doing research for the purchase.

The colors are bright and the sound is crisp and clear. The backlit keyboard is helpful when I’m in my room and the blinds are closed. I’ve used it in both tent and stand mode, the latter for playing games where a keyboard isn’t needed.

Having seen a couple of other reviews that the hinges may break I’ve been cautious when using the tent or stand modes. The battery definitely lasts a long time. I can take it outside and sit and work on it for a couple of hours and still have more than 70%.

Fingerprints are the only real problem I’ve had but I wipe the screen every night after I shut the laptop down. The only negative thing I’ve found is that when I flip it to use in tent mode the screen doesn’t follow and I’ve had to do it manually, the rotation lock doesn’t work for some reason.

It doesn’t bother me to do it manually as I don’t use it in tent mode very often. I admit I missed getting the sale price but since I needed a new laptop it was worth the price, as it had everything I wanted in a computer and it fits my needs perfectly.

Hi everyone, I have had my Yoga 9i since August. I didn’t have any problems with it freezing (requiring a reset, losing any current work) until September when I started using it more for grad school and my research, sadly past the return date from Best Buy.

My device freezes randomly with no indication of abnormal temperature changes, processes started, crash reports, CPU, GPU, or memory usage. I do nothing intensive on the device (sometimes literally nothing), and have actually been finding my phone to be more reliable to search the internet when sitting in front of my own computer.

I treat the entire machine as one large scratch directory. Factory resetting and reinstalling Windows has been the norm, instigated by Lenovo support countless times (I tried Windows 11 yesterday, it is a huge power drain and did not fix the problem).

I am unable to do anything that requires work on my machine since I can never trust when it will freeze next. I do all my work on servers or the web. Lenovo support initially addressed the problem with the usual paths of checking windows, drivers, resetting, but then they began sending technicians to repair hardware.

They replaced my motherboard, and later, my SSD. During the repairs, the technicians did something to cause my screen to be non-responsive to touch and my pen and lose functionality of some keys. Additionally, the service technicians replacing these parts have scheduled and rescheduled numerous times, resulting in me taking time off from work or missing classes to make appointments that end up not being followed through on.

They recently suggested sending the device back to the warehouse to fix it, but that would result in me losing my device entirely for days to weeks with no guarantee it will work or be new hardware. Retracing my steps with every Lenovo technician has resulted in hours lost on the phone with no resolution, causing stress and missing school or work.

Technicians have failed to follow through on initiating repairs, calling back, or helping me speak with supervisors to voice my concerns. Lenovo has scheduled a screen replacement to try and fix the loss of the touch screen.

I am concerned about the repair and if it will cause further issues with my device (and I will have to take time out of work/school again to have the repair expedited). I am sure Lenovo has lost more money building my piecemeal computer than they made selling it (the Ship of Theseus, computer version).

Sadly, I do not have that level of disposable income, with this device being the most expensive investment I have made in my future to date (despite school lol). I require a computer for my research, work, and education.

I am losing all faith in Lenovo to address this issue. I cannot believe I am having these problems with such a new machine.

The Lenovo Yoga is great, however, I was disappointed by the Geek Squad as they prepared by data and photos and set up the laptop. I initially went to Best Buy on 20 Dec 2021 to purchase a replacement battery for my HP Envy laptop I purchased in 2013.

No battery is available from HP for this laptop. I decided to purchase a new Lenovo Yoga 7i laptop. I was told that the Lenovo would be available in a week. I came back on 31 Dec 2021 to pick it up and take it to the Geek Squad (along with my HP laptop) for my data and photos to be transferred and for all of the applications that were on my HP’s taskbar to be installed on the Lenovo.

I asked the Geek Squad Agent to put all photos on a new EasyStore external hard drive that I had purchased with the new Lenovo. When I came back on 6 Jan 2022 none of the photos were transferred to the external hard drive, and only a few of the applications were installed on the new Lenovo.

They were very patient with the problem and I spent about 2 1/2 hours with the agent to get the photos and applications installed properly. When I got home, I realized that my Microsoft Outlook email was not working properly.

My email account is with Netzero, so it was not an easy install on Microsoft. I ended up installing my Netzero email myself. Then I realized that none of the links within my emails would open. I would get a dialog box that said I needed to check with my network administrator to get it corrected.

I called Geek Squad and eventually got a Level 3 Agent from India to take control of the laptop and diagnose the problem. He thought the Outlook application was not installed properly. I took the laptop back to the Geek Squad here in Riverdale, UT and the Agent found it was a computer setting that needed to be reset due to changing my Internet browser from Microsoft’s Edge to Google’s Chrome browser.

Overall, the Geek Squad helped me a great deal, but it took three visits and over 2 hours on the phone to a Level 3 Agent to get it all worked out. My recommendation is to be sure Geek Squad Agents are communicated well about what the customer needs and would like done.

Each time I came in to have an Agent look at my new Lenovo, they did not know any history nor did they seem to know what was needed to be done. I realize that it is impossible to get the same Agent from visit to visit, especially during the COVID-19 Pandemic, but there must be a better way to be sure the communication is improved.

Pros: Before I start, I just want to point out I have only used this for about 2 weeks as I had actually bought it for someone else. DesignThis is incredibly light (lighter than my 13″ laptop in fact) and yet it doesn’t feel flimsy or cheap.

The overall design aesthetic is nice and industrial, without looking boring. Keyboard/TrackpadThe keyboard is spacious, quiet and nice to type on. The trackpad is equally spacious, with accurate tracking and a quiet, satisfying click action.

PerformanceDay to day performance is excellent, with very fast startups (and almost instant shutdowns), near-instant app launches (even on larger apps such as Photoshop) and impressive performance in games.

DisplayThe screen is easily the headline feature. The brightness is definitely above average (although not even close to what you would find on something like a Macbook) and the QHD resolution keeps things sharp despite the increase in screen size.

However, the colors are what stand out most to me – it is hard to put into words, but everything looks so much more vibrant without looking oversaturated. SoftwareAs you’d expect, Windows 11 runs like a dream on this kind of hardware without any kind of hiccups.

Even the dreaded windows updates barely take any time. MiscellaneousThe sound when you close the lid is very satisfying. It is very easy to open, without being floppy. Battery life is great for a Windows laptop (seems to last about 8 hours), although not on the level of a Macbook or Chromebook.

The speakers are surprisingly good, and you can actually get some bass out of them with the right EQ settings. Cons: DesignI would prefer the plastic bezels around the screen to be replaced with the continuous glass variants found on most laptops these days, however, it is not a huge issue considering how thin the bezels are.

Keyboard/TrackpadThe keyboard backlighting is quite harsh in comparison to my other laptops and is also non-adjustable. In dark environments it is ideal, but it can be overpowering in other situations.

Somehow, LG has even managed to put bloatware onto the keyboard, with the function row being dedicated to opening their various preinstalled apps (none of which I found a use for). PerformanceThermal performance could be better, as they have definitely tried to keep this thing light and quiet instead of being a top performer.

DisplayNo complaints hereSoftwareLG has loaded this thing up with some of the most obnoxious bloatware I have seen, and most of it is useless. For example, one such app is a utility to sync your phone to your PC, despite the fact there is an identical feature baked into Windows already.

The same story goes for pretty much all of it, and even after resetting Windows it all comes back. One thing that irked me most was during the setup process. LG had bolted in the terms and conditions for some of their bloatware onto the same page as the terms and conditions for Windows.

This means you couldn’t accept the Windows T&Cs without simultaneously consenting to all of LG’s random software. MiscellaneousThe webcam is predictably terrible. There is no facial recognition. There is no full-size SD card reader, which seems especially dumb considering most people buying this will probably want to import photos and footage from their camera using an SD card.

The USB-C ports are only found on one side of the laptop, meaning it can only be charged from one side unlike some of the other laptops I have used.

There are many good things to say about this laptop. First of all the display is excellent; it has very good saturation, crisp text and overall excellent brightness. I currently have it set on a value of 60 and this is quite bright.

The initial set-up of the machine was super easy. The combination of the fingerprint scanner and the power button is good. Since this laptop has the Intel evo certification it has been tested and must pass certain requirements to obtain that certification and it certainly does.

From the time you touch that fingerprint/power button to useable Windows is seconds; it’s really fast. It’s equally fast opening programs and working with them. On-screen displays pop up with different key combinations to let you know when you activate various functions such as Caps Lock, Keyboard Backlight, etc.

Very nice. There are reviews out there that mention the flex in the unit. Well, I don’t really notice any extreme flex, I can easily pick it up from either corner without any noticeable flex. In any case it is not creaky or noisy when you do pick it up from one side.

Which brings me to weight; no computer this large (16”) should weigh this little! You mind plays tricks on you because you see this larger device on your desk and you anticipate it being heavy, but when you pick it up, well it is not heavy at all.

In fact, the advertised weight of my MacBook Air (early 2015 13. 3 inch) is 2. 38lbs, this LG is only 2. 62lbs; amazing. The track pad is large and just slightly off-center to the left not; really noticeable, but a good placement to help avoid unintentional input from it when typing.

It is very responsive to clicking and tracking as well as scrolling. I have had absolutely no issues with unregistered or extra clicks, it just works flawlessly. The keyboard has good size and feel to it with good travel and is backlit.

You can adjust the level of backlighting via the Fn+F8 option, and you can even set a “time out” for the backlight to turn off vial the LG Control Center. There is also a numeric keypad on the deck. The bundled LG Control Center makes it easy to see how things are set up on the computer and very easy to make changes from one central place.

Definitely a good piece of extra software as is the LG Update Center which takes care of drivers and such that LG specifically installed that are not part of Windows Update. I don’t doubt that the advertised battery life is achievable, but realistically I am getting about 14-16 hours from it.

That is to be expected as I changed the default behavior of the display battery saver in the Intel Graphics control from level 6 (most conservative) to level 3. This gives me a good balance of display quality and battery life.

Should I ever need to approach those higher battery numbers I would simply change that level back to 6. Also my normal activities do involve some battery draining actions, such as online games. A far as upgrading well the memory is soldered to the system board so what you buy it with is fixed.

There is however a second NVMe slot inside the unit that will accommodate another SSD should you ever want to add storage. Note that to take off the bottom cover you do have to remove the feet as they hide screws.

Heat of the unit is not really a problem either; there are professional reviews out there that measure temperatures, but I can say this; is it as cool on the lap as my 2020 M1 MacBook Air? No. But it is no where near as warm as my Mid 2010 MacBook Pro.

I have to mention the display again, because it is absolutely perfect. When you look at the image quality this display produces, you cannot say enough about it. So if you are looking for a light and quick laptop with a large screen (16” 2560×1600) with excellent saturation and color reproduction, that is quiet and a pleasure to use…well, you found it!.

I needed an updated laptop as my i5 8250U chipped laptop was sometimes struggling to drive a big 4k screen when there were a lot of windows active and lots of cameras on in Zoom calls. Costco ran this LG laptop at a very good price for Black Friday so I retired the old laptop a bit early.

Good points: Good internal spec. Unless you like playing games you will find this set up fast & capable for pretty much everything. Really good screen. 99% colour gamut & higher than HD resolution is great.

Even if you don’t edit photos you’ll like it. Real number pad on the keyboard! Not embedded in the letters like smaller laptops. It really is very light indeed and the power pack is reasonably compact.

Every time I pick it up I’m surprised at how little it weighs. Battery life is good and as it’s only a week old it’s getting better. It can cope with a 10 hour day working with Office apps on battery.

I haven’t tried any heavy photo editing etc. on battery yet. It comes with a little rubber keyboard protector. I don’t use it but if you want to use the laptop in the kitchen for recipes or while you’re eating breakfast it’s a very handy little addition.

Not so good: Keyboard is a bit clacky and doesn’t ooze quality. It’s a big laptop and the keys seem a long way away. You’re sort of reaching over half the laptop to reach the keys which makes it tiring to type a lot of text.

They could shrink the oversized touchpad and move the keys closer. If you lock the number pad on you need to hold down the Fn key to use Home & End! What were they thinking about? I guess I’ll get used to this but really.

When you close the lid to put the laptop to sleep there’s no way of knowing if it’s actually asleep. Other laptops will have a flashing yellow LED or similar so you can see if something wakes it up and starts eating the battery.

I would really like this functionality. Maybe this isn’t the laptop’s fault but my bluetooth headset connects even when the laptop is asleep. My other laptop doesn’t do this and I wish the Gram didn’t either.

It’s probably a setting somewhere in the BIOS. Obviously every review of every laptop has to complain about the ports. I need an SD port (full size please) so I bought a little USB-C dock which has extra USB ports, LAN, SVGA etc.

The camera is good rather than great. Good enough for family Zoom calls but if you make a living delivering online meetings you’ll want something better. Speakers are good enough for listening to radio or a movie but you really notice the improvement when you plug in external speakers for music.

As always I’m not interested in freeware so McAfee went straight away and I’ll have a look at the Cyberlink stuff but they’re unlikely to stay. I’ve no idea what the various LG apps do but so far they don’t seem to be using up too much resources so I’m leaving them for the time being.

Probably the biggest issue is the super-sensitive touch pad. Instead of the left & right buttons being fully separate from the pad they are still part of the pad so you’ll find yourself zooming in on pages when you are just trying to left click.

Obviously a wireless mouse solves this at your desk but I still use a laptop on the move quite a lot and I’d prefer not to have to keep undoing things that I’ve done by accident. Overall it is a great machine and highly recommended if you find it a the right price.

I wanted to give this laptop 5 stars because I fell in love with the exterior of this device upon seeing it at BestBuy, however, there are some issues holding it back from being perfect. I think it’s perfect for the average home consumer or even for small business.

Let’s start with the positive. The design is sexy, the exterior is all metal, making it look premium and I just love that dark slate grey. The screen bezel is minimal, which makes for a smaller laptop.

The performance seems solid to me as well, as I haven’t had any major issues running Windows 11 besides one small glitch with wake up from sleep & browsers. Touchpad is responsive and feels good to use.

The speakers are loud for a laptop and the display is glossy but sharp with the exception of the issue I will get into below. As for negatives: My unit came out of the box with a yellow tint in the screen, even in the bios screen (lenovo support couldn’t help me).

I had to calibrate my screen via Windows Settings to get it to display somewhat color accurate. I also hate how all lenovo 14″ laptops designed their arrow keys (I know that’s how most laptops manufacturers are choosing to make the arrow keys, but it still sucks).

The arrow buttons should all be of equal size. There are also no dedicated Home/End/PgUp/PgDn buttons on this device. The only way to use those functions is to hold down the Fn key while you press one of the arrow keys, which drives me insane.

I also foresee the front facing speakers to be dust collectors. Also not a fan of the french keyboard but BestBuy didn’t have an EN option when I purchased mine. Anyway besides my screen issue, so far so good.

I’ll maybe post an update in 6 months of use.

This is only my second week of owning and using my new HP Pavilion x360 but I am already thoroughly pleased and impressed by the combination of performance and portability. I have gotten exceptional use out of the laptop, which I am using to write this review currently.

I recommend that if you’re looking into the Pavilion line you spring for at least an i5 processor, just for the enhanced Iris Xe graphics. I also recommend you include an HP pen instead of taking the chance on a third-party pen working correctly with the touch display.

I expected better graphics performance but haven’t been able to verify how much juice the chip is getting and recognize that as an early adopter the Iris graphics should get better with time to a point.

That said I can play the games I most enjoy with ease, Fortnite, Skyrim, Magic the Gathering Arena, things of this nature. I am impressed with keyboard despite it being a simple chicklet style, it is enjoyable to type on for extended periods and the raised effect adds to the comfort level.

Battery performance is acceptable for what I am using the laptop for, which is primarily light gaming and multimedia use. I have yet to use it for much creativity but am looking forward to getting better acquainted with the included pen.

I am also quite happy with the deal I was offered on 3 years of extended protection through HP.

I bought this from Costco several years ago. I do not recommend this laptop. The fan is always on at full blast, when you shut down/hibernate/sleep, it only actually goes off 2% of the time. Nearly all other times the screen goes dark but the computer just remains on with no way to get it back without doing a hard shutdown by holding down the power button (I’ve had to do this well over 100 times since I’ve had it).

Sometimes the laptop just restarts out of nowhere. This is not a common occurrence but it happened recently and was extremely frustrating, as I typed a whole note to myself out and hadn’t saved it yet.

The laptop itself when it works is great, though. Touchscreen works great, speed is great too. I should note that I had a newer HP printer as well. All the bells and whistles, great interface, mobile, everything was easy EXCEPT it would lose connection if idle for a while, so I had to constantly restart the printer.

I no longer recommend HP products at all, it is just not worth the hassle later. My mom needed a new laptop, had her eye on an HP, and I just couldn’t recommend it. I ended up recommending a Dell and honestly she loves it and hasn’t had a problem yet (and she always has problems with her PC.

even though she’s usually the problem :)).

I purchased an HP laptop several years ago and within a few months I purchased a Dell. Here’s the issue with the HP laptop. Comes pre-loaded with all sorts of HP “stuff” that slows performance. Even after going into the system and removing many of these needless programs, the HP laptop takes hours to recharge the battery, hours to download updates, and runs very slow.

Doesn’t matter whether I connect directly to the internet or use wireless remote the HP laptop has been frustrating from day one. The Dell runs faster and battery chargers faster. Both have about the same amount of data stored on the hard-drive, so the comparison was as close on one could get.

One can only hope QVC reads these reviews and rethinks their choice with HP laptops as HP needs to focus more on the quality of the product on less on the flashy appearance. HP should seriously consider building their parts and products back here in the USA.

These disposal products as killing the consumer.

Design – 9/10 (Aluminum chassis gives the laptop a premium feel and durability) Build Quality – 8/10 (Build quality is great but not the best) Display – 9/10 (16:10 aspect ratio with 3K IPS panel is a treat for all the coders and content creators out there.

A faster refresh rate could have been more satisfying) Keyboard – 7/10 (Typing experience on this keyboard is pretty good but certainly not the best) Trackpad – 4/10 (Behaves erratic most of the time, hope they fix it with a Software update) Performance – 9/10 (Intel 11th Gen Core i7 H-series Tiger Lake processor handles almost all the heavy-duty tasks you throw at it without any hiccups.

I mainly use it for productivity with occasional casual gaming like FIFA21, and this boy has never disappointed me. One less star for the fan noise it makes during high load, which is not load but not silent either) Speakers – 7/10 (Audio quality is passable for a laptop.

Don’t expect anything extraordinary from these downward firing speakers) I/0 Ports – 9. 5/10 (Zero complaints. It has the right number & variety of ports that’s needed for a laptop. I only wish it had a HDMI 2.

1 port instead of 2. 0 for future proofing) Battery Life – 5/10 (I was expecting a pretty good battery life since it is equipped with 86WHr battery but I’m getting only 4-5 hours on normal usage and only 2 hours when I’m using it for productivity) Overall, the Inspiron 16 Plus is a pretty good productivity laptop, with a few drawbacks: 1.

In Dell India website, its mention that RTX 3050 model boasts 3 fans and 5 heat pipes, whereas it comes with only 2 fans and 3 heat pipes. Dell should look into such misleading information that has been put on Dell India website very seriously.

2. Trackpad behaves erratic most of the time. I believe it’s a software issue that many have already complained about. I use a separate Keyboard & Mouse so not much bothered about it. 3. I was expecting a fairly good battery life from this boy but it has been a below average experience based on my usage.

I would definitely recommend this boy to those who are looking for a great productivity laptop, with great performance and good display at a reasonable price. Just make sure you could live with the above drawbacks that I have just mentioned.

CONS: – First, I need to say how poor the color quality and brightness of the screen is. It’s bad, and I usually don’t notice these things. If you’re planning on editing photos or videos, don’t even CONSIDER this laptop.

Luckily the AMD video drivers allow me to correct the colors partially so I can tolerate them now. The brightness doesn’t bother me because I only ever use this laptop indoors. – Second, OUT OF THE BOX the cooling was terrible – there was a graphite thermal pad on top of the CPU, and a dab of thermal paste.

As a result, the machine was overheating and thermal throttling as SOON as I hit it with a real load like a 3D video game. Once I let it go for a minute and it quickly hit 120°C and shut down. After replacing the thermal paste with some Arctic MX-5 and dumping that pointless graphite pad, the laptop is now acceptable for gaming, and everything else it does very quickly and quietly, I can up the power to 25-30W and with the fan at 100% it sits at 85-90°C.

Upgrade your RAM if you don’t have 16GB too and you plan to play games. – Third, get rid of Windows 11, it sucks for now – download the Windows 10 media creation tool, install it to a USB stick, and install Windows 10 instead.

The license works perfectly fine, there are no issues at all. PROS: – Really cool convertible form factor, the body is very thin and sleek-looking, nice thin bezels – Very fast performance with the 5500U, and you can also set it to battery saver and it’s still quick enough while sipping on power and staying quiet (the fan will be always off pretty much) – Upgradeable SSD, upgradeable RAM, easy to service the insides and replace parts, very good – The keyboard is nice, the backlighting has 2 levels (OFF-low-high), and you can lock the Fn key on/off whenever you like without going to the BIOS – The laptop comes with a USB C charger which can charge your phone, which is awesome, and if your phone charger is 35W or higher, you can charge your laptop with your phone charger.

The future is here.

I purchased this laptop from Dell’s website and feel compelled to write a review due to my disappointment with this expensive laptop. If you want a touchpad that works properly, then this is NOT the laptop for you.

When the touchpad first started playing up very occasionally, only two weeks after purchase, I initially put it down the immature and buggy Windows 11 operating system installed on the laptop. Now here I am a couple of weeks further on again, and the touchpad becomes unresponsive two or three times a day, with the cursor sticking and juddering when you try to move it, all the while somehow causing applications to open.

Sometimes you have to use two fingers to get the cursor to move at all rather than one. And yes, BIOS, drivers and Windows itself are fully patched. Support Assist keeps telling me there are no further updates.

I have now done research on this, and found that this seems to be a widespread issue with this laptop, reported across many threads on Dell’s own forums and also on Reddit. I have tinkered with driver settings and power settings, recommended by various other struggling users on these threads, to no avail.

My 30 years of working in IT and working on countless other Dell desktops and laptops has not been of use in fixing this issue. In short, the laptop I received is absolutely not fit for purpose, and I shall have to open a case with Dell Support.

Sadly I fear I am just over the 30 day return term otherwise I assure you that I would be returning the laptop and asking for my money back. I hoped for better from a laptop that cost me over £1300. I have gone back to using a 12 year old laptop from another manufacturer as at least on this a basic input device like a touchpad works correctly.

Also, the fans seem very noisy, even when the laptop is not under much load, so if fan noise bothers you then this is another strike against this machine.

PROS: Gorgeous (if a bit glossy) screen; lightweight; one of the fastest processors available — for now; CONS: No RJ-45 input; Windows 11 software still unstable; surprisingly poor graphics. I had high hopes for this model.

I ordered it July 4, 2022 — and Best Buy delivered it the next day. Unfortunately, it was all downhill from there. It’s clear that HP and W11 still don’t play nice together — this computer, like other HPs I’ve tried, has various issues with W11 instability.

But unlike the others, I was able to install a fresh copy of Windows 10 (version 21H2) on this model with ease — and that all but eliminated most software issues. But, to my eyes, the much bigger problem is the graphics component.

I don’t buy computers willy nilly — I do a lot of research beforehand. In researching this laptop, I found two credible websites that indicated the AMD Ryzen 5 5625u processor is supposed to come with a powerful iGPU — Radeon RX Vega 7 graphics, with up to 2 GB of VRAM.

Nope. This model comes with only a standard graphics card — and just 512 mb of VRAM. My eyes clearly see the difference between such a card — and my other computer with 2 GB of VRAM. There’s no legitimate reason why a computer normally retailing for $800 has such a comparatively poor graphics package.

If you’re less picky about graphics performance, this may well be a fine laptop for you. But if you are more selective about such things — then you may want to wait for the forthcoming Ryzen 6000 series models.

Originally I bought an HP Envy 8 GB/256 GB with an i5 processor laptop. I also purchased an additional 8 GB of expanding memory and I told the sales person the additional 8 GB of memory was to upgrade the memory of this laptop.

The sales person did not tell me the memory on this model was not expandable. To make a much longer story shorter, I found out shortly that the memory on this laptop was not expandable. Because of the way I use a computer (with lots of programs open) this new laptop quickly started to bog down.

I went back to Best Buy expecting a fight to return the laptop. The manager I spoke to (Shay) was very helpful and told me not to worry – to go buy the upgraded laptop I wanted, then have my data moved to the new computer – then return the first computer.

That is exactly what I did and Best Buy took the first laptop back. The HP Envy with 16GB/512GB with i7 processor I bought second is perfect. It has the capacity and speed to easily manage all the programs I keep open while working.

This is my 4th HP laptop over 12 years. I have never really had any hardware challenges. In spite of the many challenges you typically hear about doing business with Big Box stores – Best Buy came through this time with flying colors – other than the original sales person I worked with could have been better trained to know that the original laptop I purchased was not expendable.

I have purchased many electronics from Best Buys over the years. TV’s (I mean TV’s not flat screens – that’s how long ago it was), sound systems, Flat screens and many more things. Thanks for making this experience a positive one!.

Overall, spec wise, this laptop is hard to beat for the price when on sale. All aluminum case feels super well built and is packed with features. Backlit keyboard is nice and feels amazing The screen is super colorful and bright (400 nits) Great cpu Fast charging and decent port selection.

Where I question the build is. I got one and the screen did not sit 100% flush along the body. When the lid is open, you can see on the right side there is a gap in the corner between the screen lid and body and in the left side, it sits lower.

This by a few mm but still noticeable The trackpad also, for this price, should be a glass trackpad but it’s not. The click is nice and is super precise but, at 1100$ when not on sale, should be glass.

It also sits uneven slightly in the body as the right bottom corner sits slightly lower than the other corners that are flush. Onboard ram, why. no upgradability but should be good for a few years. Just don’t buy this with the intent of future proofing your purchase.

8 GB should be fine for most but not if you’re into intense video editing for example. Overall, on sale, very good buy even with those questional build issues. They are minor and don’t take away from the overall experience.

Maybe just get an extended warranty.

IšverstiShow in original languageThe linux support out of the box is very good. The wifi module needs kernel 5. 16 or newer, but if you meet that prerequisite virtually everything else works perfectly.

Suspend/resume, frequency scaling, wifi, bluetooth, touchscreen, backlight controls (keyboard and screen), audio/volume, accelerometer, and everything else I could think to try works. The sole exception is the fingerprint reader: some synaptics model that `fprintd` doesn’t support (yet) out-of-the-box.

The integrated Vega graphics are natively supported via open source drivers and perform great at compositing and gaming. The 8C/16T Ryzen 5800U chews through the many compile tasks I have thrown it while providing amazing battery life (varies, but often well past 10hrs).

The 16GB RAM is soldered but should be enough for me for a long time. I have the luxury of being able to compare this side-by-side with a recent Dell XPS 13. The build quality and comfort is a tiny bit better on the XPS (the rubberized carbon fiber to rest my palms on is missed).

The XPS also has a nicer 16:10 screen. But with the lower price, much higher performance, vega graphics, and better battery life, I’d pick this any day for use as a linux development workstation. This laptop earns direct comparison with the XPS 13, even if the price suggests otherwise.

Shockingly (and probably owing to solid support for Ryzen APUs in linux) the linux support is also in the same league as the venerable XPS, at least with linux 5. 16 or greater. I have a nice USB-C dock and wasn’t sure if the laptop would charge that way since it comes with an old-school barrel plug and the included adapter uses that.

I’m please to report all of my USB-C PD charging adapters will charge this laptop via USB-C. They are all at least 65W so not sure what the minimum spec is. Wish this had USB-C ports on both sides and used USB-C to charge exclusively.

The extra IO and charging flexibility would have been appreciated.

IšverstiShow in original languageMy boyfriend spent over a thousand dollars on this after all fees and extra costs were included and it’s one of our biggest regrets with buying tech. When I first started using it, it would ask to restart every other day, refusing to connect to the wi-fi unless I restarted it.

It’s been five months and we’re at the point were the laptop asks to restart several times a day, refusing to connect to wi-fi until it restarts. These are not requests for updates either. There are no viruses or any bugs affecting my laptop.

We’ve made sure all drivers and ports are squared away. This is an HP doing what classic HP does. I was so excited to get out of having a Chromebook, another HP product that is famously known for always needing to restart as well, and here I am, with the same HP problem.

My experience with HP the past ten years has been like sticking with a cheap car brand, because it’s affordable you buy it, but after you own it, you realize why it’s so terribly mediocre. To note, I do not use this laptop to its full potential.

Plenty of memory still left on it, I mostly browse the internet and send some emails, no streaming or uploading of any kind. I’m too scared to venture into using this model for the reason I bought it – the drawing tablet HP was so proud to create for this model – because I just know I will be entirely disappointed.

Why? Because the laptop already regularly loses my webpages and emails as I’m using them, there’s no telling when it wants to restart, but once it wants to, anything using the internet is cut off and not retrievable after the restart.

I can’t imagine creating a work of art or just even having a little fun doodling, only for the laptop to decide it wants to restart and lose everything. I DO NOT recommend this product from HP. I am so verily disappointed.

The sales tech at Best Buy was so firm in his pitch to buy this product and we are so sad we listened. We should have gotten out of the HP brand when we had the chance. I’m going to Office Space this garbage HP Envy – it’s that terrible.

There is a real disappointment regarding the purchase. The problem comes from the touchpad and fingerprint reader of the laptop I bought (yoga 9i, 14 inch). I really would like to know why the GENIUS designer design the things in this way: the touchpad and fingerprint reader are totally flat.

I mean there is no notch (height difference) for your finger to distinguish the periphery of the touchpad and fingerprint reader. This really gives a really greasy rather than a comfortable and neat feeling for those people who really use the touchpad (I think it is designed for convenience rather than as a decoration).

When you are typing and watching the screen, it is really hard for your finger to practice the accurate left and right clicks on the touchpad, especially for some complex operations such as copying, pasting and moving an object.

And the sticker to locate the fingerprint reader should not be removed since then it becomes very hard for your finger to touch the reader accurately, and the speed and accuracy of fingerprint recognition are thus bad.

For a user like me who is heavily relying on the touchpad, this really hinders my efficiency and comfort substantially. This is the first time I see this design. I am now getting used to this but I think the traditional design of touchpad and fingerprint designers with notches are REASONABLE and there is really no reason to change things in this way, which in my opinion is ANTI-ERGONOMICS.

Any feedback and comments are welcomed and I am curious about the inspiration of this design and whether I am the only one who thinks the operation experience is not good. I will continuously support Lenovo since it has provided me with a lot of wonderful devices over the years, while I really would like to help improve the design of this Yoga 9i product by participating in the discussion of the reasons behind the design of touchpad and fingerprint reader, if possible.

I have been stalling on buying a new laptop for a few months because I couldn’t find the right machine with the right features at the right price. Then I got an email from Lenovo with a link to a sale and that all changed.

Fast Processer – check, USB-C charging – check, 2-n-1 – check, 1080p with a brilliant touch screen – check, sleek design – check, aluminum case – check, in-stock and ready to ship – check! So I pulled the trigger and it was delivered several days ahead of schedule in less than a week.

As with any new tech toy, it takes a little time to get used to the features. The biggest surprise was how well the handwriting recognition works with the included/docked pen. I can scribble in the box and it generally knows what I intend.

This makes using the machine in tablet mode a very user friendly device. Speed is not an issue with the included CPU and 8GB of memory. WiFi6 is a nice addition and since my home network can support the connection speed, backups to local network storage are quick and efficient.

The screen is beautiful. I opted for 1080p vs 4k because at 14″, the pixels are already small enough! The extra money for a 4K would be wasted. The leather cover is a really nice touch. It has a great feel and steps this device up from a toy to something elegant.

Battery life is good and it charges quickly with the included 65W USB-C charger. I may add a single-cabled dock so I can easily use it with my desktop monitor keyboard and mouse. One cable for everything is very convenient.

It’s also very quiet and doesn’t seem to get as hot as other laptops that I have used. The only complaints I have are these: It came pre-loaded with Win10 and the immediate upgrade to Win11 took many hours – seems like it could have shipped with Win11 from the factory.

The camera doesn’t work with Windows Hello. The touchpad and fingerprint reader need a more pronounced edge – they are impossible to see if the ambient light is low. The Pen could be a little bigger in diameter and perhaps have a larger battery.

I’ve had the Yoga 9i for a little over two months now, and it’s an amazing laptop, to say the least. For starters, it’s beautiful. I love the leather cover, speaker design, and fully glass touchpad area.

It feels like it weighs almost nothing when carrying it in my bag and is small enough to use in the car when I’m out and about without turning myself into an origami work of art when trying to type. The battery life is phenomenal, and most of the time, I leave the house without my charging cable.

I’ve yet to get even close to running out of juice when away from home. The video quality for zoom calls is more than passable, and I love that it has a built-in camera cover. Sound quality is top-notch, and I can’t believe that no one else has thought of designing it in the same way.

All that said, it isn’t perfect. The keyboard is comfortable and spacious, but I would like more ‘clickability’ in the keys. Sometimes they feel sort of soft, or maybe I just enjoy hearing that ‘click clack’ sound when I type.

Also, the touchpad is overly sensitive, in my opinion, sometimes resulting in unwanted onscreen actions taking place, and I still haven’t discovered a way to reduce the sensitivity to an acceptable level.

(Like many of us out there, I’ve become a lazy typist over the years, resting my hands on the trackpad area when they should be raised. As a result of the trackpad sensitivity, you’ll have no choice but to type correctly on this laptop.

I’m complaining, but I’m actually typing the way I should now. ) Finally, this laptop doesn’t support Windows Hello and uses a fingerprint reader instead. The fingerprint reader, up to this point, has been hit or miss.

It works about 65% of the time for me so far. Unfortunately, I have to leave my finger on the reader area for long periods (up to 10-15 sec in some cases) for it to work, if it works at all. None of the detractors I’ve mentioned are game breakers, but I think people should know about them before purchasing.

I’d still buy this laptop again in a heartbeat. For a portable laptop, it pretty much hits all areas I wanted to address: Long battery life, minimal footprint, reliability (we’ll see), business-appropriate appearance, lightweight, internally housed pen, and fast.

For business on the go, this is an amazing laptop.

I work as a Tier 2 tech on computers so it takes me forever to pick anything up as I over research it. My wife needed a computer to run the cricut software and a touchscreen was going to help. I researched all of the different brands and options for a 2-in-1 laptop for the price I was willing to spend.

Pros: AMD Ryzen 5 5625U is a reliable and fast processor. It’s perfect midranged for any PC. Wi-Fi 6E (2×2) and Bluetooth combo is the new normal and it’s quick and has less issues then prior version 360° geared hinge: is really strong and I don’t worry about it breaking with constant use Cons: 8 gb memory – most companies are trying to save money by only offering 8gb and while I do suggest 16 for the price 8 is good.

I want to add that unlike other competitors this laptop does not have the memory attached to the board with sauder. It also has a 2nd memory slot so it’s easy to upgrade (If you know what your doing).

I did put it as a negative because they added 2x4gb chips so you have to get a full replacement or just upgrade to 12gb when you do. Neutral: 256 GB PCIe NVMe M. 2 SSD is not the best drive due to the size.

Most people won’t have an issue with it and it can be upgraded. It is a fast little drive but 512 is really the min I would suggest. Check out the Samsung 980 or 980 EVO drives they are an amazing upgrade with quick boot.

Graphics: AMD Radeon Graphics – This is a good built in graphics and for the price it’s all you really can get. It’s not gamer level but it is consumer level. Just know what you are buying and don’t expect to run your games at 4k.

Overall: I would really suggest this laptop for most consumers. It is not a gaming laptop but it’s not meant to be one. If you are looking for school, work, or pretty much anything expect for gaming or programming this will suit your needs.

The biggest plus is unlike the Dell and Lenovo 2-in-1 you can upgrade because of how it was built. Solid laptop I would suggest.

Good value for the price; however, the laptop is slow. the display has slightly too much white light and the keyboard is difficult to read due to the lack of color contrast between the key color and symbol color – or lack thereof.

The stock 1 TB hard drive is slower than expected, but probably fine for most users. The RAM is good in regard to it being 12 GB but you’ll need all of that just to run windows and a few basic apps. The network card seems to be normal in its performance without any obvious problems but I did not spend enough time on this area to make a true evaluation.

I cleaned up Windows by removing some of the preinstalled apps and changing some settings that are more of a resource hog rather than a true feature enhancement – fade in, fade out, etc. , in settings located in the control panel.

I also updated to the latest Windows 10 packs that I thought were ok – you should know if you’re not into tinkering, that not all updates from the mothership are actually beneficial – Google that for more insight.

I installed a new solid state drive to speed things up. Now the laptop performs. I also shopped RAM and searched for the best “timed” RAM for this motherboard and settled on Corsair that was the same spec as the replaced mod.

Even though the spec didn’t change, and even though the onboard memory wasn’t changed, there is a noticeable improvement in performance measured with benchmarking software. Each PC/Laptop will have different results as techies will know even when the components are the same brand, model and version.

So a side by side comparison will not be a good way to choose upgrades if your looking for optimal performance improvements. Be sure to research you individual components using the proper utilities (BIOS updates) to inspect your motherboard’s settings and how is actually operating rather than what it is touted to be.

Lastly, when it comes down to choosing Intel or AMD, do some research. I chose AMD because of the overhead factor. Each brand has its superpowers, but essentially I offer the following analogy: you can drop an apple from head height and it falls to the ground or you can drop the same apple from the same height with obstacles, or overhead, in its way.

Overhead is what it takes to run the chip and AMD has less overhead. AND its less expensive.

I needed a replacement for the 8-year-old laptop that just died on me and wanted one with a bigger screen but wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg! Nearing Black Friday, I got a great deal on this ASUS Vivobook K712EA-WH34 laptop with its 17.

3-in screen, genuine Intel Core i3 processor and a 256 GB SSD, which is more than enough for my needs. I received my new laptop in just 2-days and it was easy to setup. The MyASUS software is a nice touch, but I would have preferred if they included the full User Manual, which is downloadable from the ASUS website.

Once I set up the included Microsoft Edge browser and clicked on the import bookmarks tab, the desktop loaded up with what I had on my former laptop via the Cloud! It’s a nice-looking unit out of the box! It doesn’t come with a bunch of pre-loaded software, which is a good thing in my opinion; the last thing I want is a bunch of programs that I’ll never use taking-up space on my drive! It does come with a trial subscription to McAfee, but being a long-time user of another brand of anti-virus software, I chose to go with that, instead.

There are plenty of ports on the sides that should cover almost anyone’s basic needs. The speakers are adequate and should be suitable for basic needs; for better sound, one can always pair a Bluetooth speaker.

The large screen is great for viewing most videos or for having several browsers open at once. It should be noted that I would not recommend this for gaming if you like to play the latest games. Older games or basic games should not be an issue, but I would suggest spending a little more money and getting a “gaming computer” if that’s what you’re into.

This particular laptop would be better for web browsing, education or even business work. If you do a lot of traveling with your laptop, I would suggest getting a smaller laptop to carry around as any laptop that features a 17-in screen could become a bit clumsy to haul around with you.

Also, the battery life is a bit short at around 8-hours, give or take, which may not be ideal for travel. I wish this came with an optical drive, but that is more “the norm” rather than the exception on many of today’s laptops; external USB optical drives can be found and are inexpensive.

In all, there is really only one matter of disappointment with this laptop; the keyboard is not backlit. From what I’ve learned, not all ASUS K712EA keyboards have backlit keyboards, although some do.

With the keys, keyboard cover and mouse all being colored silver, it makes it very difficult to see the letters, numbers and icons on the keys, themselves. They are not painted on the keys, but translucent.

It seems to be that they use the same keys for the backlit and non-backlit keyboards, which makes it very difficult to read the keys on non-backlit models. If you want to know if the K217EA you are using has a backlit keyboard, look for a keyboard icon on the F7 function key; if there is no icon on it, then you do NOT have a backlit keyboard.

In my opinion, this was a very bad decision by ASUS and all of the K217EA keyboards should be backlit, or replaced with the “standard” black keyboards with white-painted letters, numbers and icons on them.

Overall, it’s still a very good laptop for the price I paid and, with ASUS’s good reputation, should last a long time, as well! *Disclosure: I am receiving an extended warranty by ASUS for my review.

I am a 75 year old, and I only you it for emails, google search, maps, documents, excel spreadsheets, banking, and paying bills and some extras. I need Windows 10 or 11 for Turbo Tax. So this laptop is so great for my daily use.

The pictures are so pretty, I love it. For the price, I am getting all the stuff I need. Speed is very good too. It came with Windows 10 and then upgrade to Windows 11. Very easy and convenient. Very happy with it.

No complaints at all.

The computer is great. It does what laptops do. My only real complaint is that the speakers are on the BOTTOM of the computer??? And it really messes the sound up if you put it on other surfaces. It’s just weird and the sound gets muffled when you put it on anything.

I wish I looked harder at this computer before buying it because I wouldn’t have gotten it if I’d noticed BOTTOM SPEAKERS.

I’ve been using the Lenovo ideapad Flex 5 for around 6 months. I use it for business, usually running 3-4 different software programs, often in PowerPoint working with images. Compared to my 4-year old Dell XPS, I thought I’d have a much better experience with the Lenovo.

I liked my Dell a lot, but the trackpad became very difficult to use (do they wear out?). On the Dell, it was very difficult to see the arrow on the screen as I tried to move it around, and I often resorted to just touching the touch screen to click buttons or place my cursor where I wanted it.

The Lenovo is better on that score. But it has another nit that I absolutely hate. The clickable are on the trackpad is tiny. You have to click in just the right spot on the very lower left corner to get it to register as a “click.

” If you click and it doesn’t take, which is often, then the editing drop down appears in the middle of the screen, and you have to click out of that, usually by touch, to continue typing. This trackpad situation is almost bad enough to get rid of this laptop and get something else.

I am a pretty fast typist, and it seems when I type quickly, the sticky key window pops up and I can’t proceed until I close the window. Maybe there’s a way to disable this, but doesn’t seem it should do that in the first place.

Also really annoying. As I said, I use PowerPoint a lot. I don’t know if it’s the laptop or what, but working in images is slower than I’d like, and even when using a wireless mouse the response between mouse and laptop is slow.

Maybe a hardware/software issue causing the response delay, but I would think a relatively powerful little PC laptop should be able to handle a wireless mouse (with new battery) without a lag. I do really like the numbers n the keyboard and the keyboard features.

Very intuitive.

I currently use this laptop for some personal home office/college use. I’ll start off with the only two negatives I currently have. I know I chose the 15. 6″ because I use the heck out of a 10-key, but the size makes it pretty heavy in tablet mode, which I also wanted.

Therefore, if you can forgo the 10-key, I would recommend the smaller laptop if you will use tablet mode often. Also, like other reviews have stated, the lip around the edge of the screen is very flat when closed, which kind of makes it difficult to lift to open.

Otherwise, I like everything else about the laptop. I bought it during the March spring sale and I feel you get a lot of bang for your buck. Plus Lenovo also gives additional discounts for First Responders/Teachers/Nurses, etc.

, which is awesome and can be used with other discounts! Set up was very intuitive. Screen quality/pixels are nice and crisp in my opinion. Sound/volume is fine for my needs. I like the track pad. My old laptop didn’t have a track pad with integrated mouse buttons, so that’s nice! Windows 11 is interesting but as usual it’s fairly user-friendly.

So far the 8gb ram is fine and nothing lags, but I don’t do any sort of gaming. I bought the Lenovo Active Pen 2 separately (~$50) and it pairs very easily and works well. The pen also has an erase button which is very nice.

You do have to have your hand off the screen to use properly, which is hard, but easily solved by a bit of fabric under my writing hand. The pen also doesn’t slide as easily as I thought it should. Overall, I would buy the laptop again and would recommend it and Lenovo to anyone.

This laptop is perfect for school, as well as gaming on the go. I travel a lot for work, so I needed something that could handle my in-person classes well, as well as be small enough to fit in my bag that I use to travel, and be powerful enough to game on.

This is the perfect laptop, however, it has some issues that have caused me a ton of frustration BATTERY – When I go to my lectures, I’m usually in class for about 4 hours, I write notes using my BAMBOO pen, read powerpoints, use one note, and code in Visual studio, and I usually only use about 25%-35% of my battery in those 4 hours.

The battery is very good, and you can set it to stop charging at 60% or 80% to extend the battery life. This was my biggest concern, and I was pleasantly surprised with how good it was. In order to make it last tho, you should turn off the dedicated GPU in armoury crate (the laptops proprietary software) while on battery.

This will greatly extend your battery life and is a must for college classes GPU – I have yet to find a game that I cannot play at 1080p on low settings. It performs very well in every game I play, and I haven’t noticed any issues while gaming.

BUILD – Keyboard is really good, the trackpad’s very nice but a little small. The white back light makes it easy to see at night and isn’t too obnoxiously “gamer”. CPU – Very powerful, computer is super snappy, and I have yet to have any performance issues when working properly.

UGPRADABILITY – There is nothing upgradable except for the SSD. But the SSD is a 30mm m. 2 SSD, so there not really any SSD’s that size over 1 TB PEN WRITING – I use a wiacom BAMBOO pen, and it usually doesn’t have any issues, however, sometimes it will not write, and I’ll have to make the same stroke 4 or 5 times before the line actually writes.

When not in table mode, it always picks up my plan and messes up my writing/drawing. This is much better in tablet mode, but still occurs every now and then. ISSUES – Not sure if this is just my laptop, but I have experienced a couple of frustrating issues to watch out for.

Sometimes when I open the lid, the screen will be sideways and will not rotate. When connecting to an HDMI cable, the picture will be flipped, and again will not rotate. The only way I”ve fixed these issues is by continuously closing and opening the lid again, and it usually fixes itself.

Sometimes when booting up the PC, it won’t read my SSD. I opened that back and it’s not loose, the BIOS just won’t recognize it sometimes, as it doesn’t even show up in the bios. Once again I usually just have to restart my laptop a few times and it fixes itself.

My final major issue which hasn’t started occurring until recently is if the drivers are out of date, the PC will randomly blue screen, unless it is plugged in. Updating the drivers fixes this issue, but I’ve had a couple coding projects get corrupted and lost progress due to it.

SUMMARY – With great battery life and performance, this is great for a student who wants to take notes with a pen, needs a powerful computer, and wants to game on the side. When it works correctly, it is the best laptop out there, However, my old laptop has never had any issues, and I abused that thing viciously for about 6 years, where as this laptop has had issues after only a few months which include bluescreens, not recognizing SSD, and not being able to rotate the screen.

This little laptop has far exceeded my expectations. Even at full retail I think this laptop is worth it based on performance and build quality, but at its current $1249 price it’s a no-brainer. Full RTX feature support including resizable BAR and DLSS.

Gaming is smooth and enjoyable without sacrificing graphic quality. The screen isn’t large enough to warrant running most modern titles on “Ultra” or equivalent, so “high” settings work fine. On the new Final Fantasy XIV Endwalker demo, the 3050ti scored 10975 with avg frame rate of 76.

5 tested at “High”. For the sake of comparison, my OC’d i9-9900k with a FTW3 Ultra 3090 scored 15789 with an average of 109fps at 4k HDR “maximum” setting. The only other game I have really had time to play is Diablo 2: Resurrected, and it averages 75-100fps with graphics maxed and DLSS on.

The 120hz display is fantastic, no tearing or artifacts while gaming. There is a slight learning curve to getting Armoury Crate and the Radeon software configured, but it’s well worth the time investment if you plan to use the laptop on battery much.

In Armoury Crate it’s very easy to configure gpu power saving so the 3050ti shuts off on battery power, then turns back on when plugged back in. You can also assign through the Nvidia Control Panel what apps use what gpu.

and the radeon igpu is way, way better than intel iris xe. With a little tweaking you can get some nice battery life out of this laptop without any noticeable performance drop. For me, in normal unplugged operation the fans never even came on during a 4 hour stretch of work with 2 desktops running using Edge with 10 tabs open on each desktop, plus all the background stuff running in tray (Dropbox, Teams, Battle.

net, iCloud etc. ) And I still had 60% batter left with the screen being on 100% of the time. No issues with build quality either. it’s not quite as solid as a MacBook Pro (when doing a corner hold) but close enough.

Hinges are tight but not overly so, and no issues with flexing. Anyway, very happy with purchase!.

This laptop stands next to the M1 series of macs in nearly every aspect. Windows (ASUS) laptops have a marketing problem that holds them back from their true market potential. There is no reason this needs to be marketed as a gaming laptop and I honestly believe that is why this is the industries best kept secret! Great battery life paired up with a top of the line processor and dedicated graphics in a tiny package.

This is Apple’s bread and butter and why they sell so well to people in my industry (UX/Design) The only thing this laptop doesn’t match with the new M1 Pro mac is the screen specs (1k nits is insane) and unheard of battery life.

Otherwise this is the full package. I had the ROG G14 (felt chonky and cheap) Razer 14 (getting too close to the new Mac Pro price to not just jump ship – I use a 2016 macbook pro for work) and MSI Delta 15 (nearly had me) but I kept coming back to this laptop.

It is just so much more portable and versatile with its tiny usb-c charger and ultra-portable frame, not to mention the touch screen and 2 in 1 functionality. So why was it so hard to decide? 1. In my line of work I am always looking for a decent panel that has good colors and pushes out enough light.

The panel is not bad, but at 300 nits it pales in comparison to anything I have used in the last 5 years. 16:10 and 120hz should be industry standards but I would have spent another $100-200 to get a 500-1k nit panel.

External monitors fix this but still, give me a bright panel. 2. The idea that a game will pop into existence that makes me want to get into it again. I don’t play a lot anymore but knowing the 3060 in the Razer 14 (very similar footprint) can spit out another 30 frames made me hesitate.

The one thing that kept me from the Razer 14 was that the base model screen was an absolute disaster and required a jump to the 3070 model ($2200) to get the better screen. I watch as reviewers gawk over Macs like they are marvels of tech (the new M1 chips are) but a laptop like this comes along and has to be marketed as a gaming laptop because reviewers are sent the model with the 3080 hanging off the side.

I am extremely happy to see this laptop getting so much love in the BB comments section. If products like this are made more often and don’t have to be tied to the ‘gaming laptop’ standard it would be sitting next to the Mac with reviewers.

To the marketing team at Asus: You missed the mark. You made reviewers set this laptops benchmark at ‘how does this compare to a 6lb monster with a 3080 and 300hz screen’ as opposed to ‘the most powerful and versatile professional laptop in the Windows camp.

‘ To everyone still here: Buy this laptop. It has a ton of power in a tiny non-gamer chassis and it sips battery so it will last you the day if needed. Sure it would be nice to have a 3060, brighter screen, and a larger trackpad but not at the cost of a proprietary 2lb charger and an extra $500.

This Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 (16″ AMD) – 82RA000JUS is my first AMD system ever. It is truly impressive. Despite the limitations of being equipped with merely 8GB LPDDR4X-4266MHz (Soldered) the performance is surprisingly quick.

The 2-in-1 design gives it versatility, as do the 16″ WUXGA (1920 x 1200), IPS, 45% NTSC, 300 nits, 60Hz Touchscreen and touch sensitive Lenovo Digital Pen. (Though the it is high gloss, the screen remains relatively smudge-free) Naturally, the keyboard has the renowned Lenovo tactile feedback.

It is disappointing that the backlit keyboard cannot be set (even from within the BIOS) to remain on continuously as with the Lenovo laptop that this replaced. Unfortunately, it is only offered in an 8GB RAM configuration.

This is curious, especially when its documents specify that it does support up to a total of 16GB. The build quality is very high. It has a very solid feel with an aluminum top and an ABS composite base.

1 HDMI, 1 USB-C, 2 USB-A, 1 SDXC SD Card reader, and 3. 5mm stereo-mic ports, plus the latest Wi-Fi & Bluetooth protocol make this system compatible with many current and legacy devices. It has other inputs with a multiple point Touch Pad, 1080p FHD Camera, and a Fingerprint Reader.

The Micron 512GB M. 2 2242 PCIe Gen4 TCL SSD benefits the overall performance significantly. After Windows 11 updates, installing several applications, and updating drivers, the Fingerprint Reader no longer is functional.

Windows Face Recognition never was functional. Clearly, these are software issues yet neither Microsoft nor Lenovo support have the correct answers. It has become evident that I must resolve these issues myself (no surprise).

Is this system perfect? No. And nor is their support (little expertise beyond reading from a script). However, with a few simple improvements it would come extremely close. I can highly recommend it (If hardware and software conflicts are not a deterrent).

Pros: –Found this at a great on-line price as a Special Buy. Staples delivered to my home within 24 hours. –Glad OS is Win 11 Home without the S mode. –An important selling feature for me was wifi 6 (802.

11AX) and bluetooth v5. 1 because all my other hardware has been upgraded to the faster, OneMesh compatible standard. –On Lenovo support site, this is IdeaPad 3 model 15ITL6 (you’ll see it marketed as Pad 3i and 151TL06).

Windows updated the firmware and all software without my having to download anything from Lenovo. Very relieved Windows 11 accepted my old favorite software: WordPerfect Office X7, Nero CD and Cyberlink PowerDVD 13 in addition to a few other photo editing titles.

Cons: –Buyers Beware. Seriously concerned about Warranty period displayed in a couple areas. My unit manufactured 08/16/2021. Warranty shows start date of 09/23/2021, ending 09/23/2022. Problem is I just purchase it on 06/13/2022.

Packaging had security seal in tact, saw no signs of prior ownership and initial setup felt like a clean install so don’t know why I might have only about 4-5 months left on a new product warranty. If true and I have issues, then Staples and/or Lenovo had better stand behind the product because I expect at least one full year warranty on a new product.

Other thoughts: –Unit came with 4GBs RAM but will add another 8GBs after market for $32 which is a good deal. –Spent about one full day downloading Windows 11 updates before installing any third party software, eliminating unwanted bloatware then finalizing personal adjustments to system.

All went well and I’m happy. –Keep an eye on the McAfee Security software, it’s a 30 day trial program so take care of that ASAP. I’m using, like and trust AVG. Immediately uninstalled the Microsoft 365 suite, always use WordPerfect and LibreOffice.

The computer is a four, but Windows 11 is a one or two. I was working on a project, and my excellent Thinkpad, recently renamed “Not Responding,” was dying. I needed a replacement right away. I miss the Thinkpad’s Trackpoint and the built-in left and right click buttons, but appreciate the added number pad.

With the number pad on the right, I had to re-learn where the “delete” button went, I could no longer get to it by feeling in from the corner of the unit. I have no use for the touch screen or touchpad, though I did successfully use the touchpad a couple of times before I connected a wireless wheel mouse.

I’ve used DOS, and at least 8 different versions of Windows from 3. 0 through 7, but trying to use Windows 11 is like using a computer for the first time. Nothing is where it is ‘supposed’ to be. The bloatware eats up most of my storage.

I have less than 1 GB left for myself on the internal drive after copying over some of my files but few programs. And everything Windows 11 does seems to be as an online client. In my opinion, Windows 11 is spyware.

The power supply is like a huge wall wart on steroids. It is too big and heavy to stay plugged into the wall, I had to get a power strip so it could lie on the floor. All previous laptops had an AC cord on the supply.

Plus, the coaxial DC jack keeps backing out of the laptop. I usually don’t notice that I have been working on battery until the “low battery” flag pops up. I’ll have to see if I can set a different screen brightness to warn me.

But the battery life is the best I have experienced. The computer meets my needs for email, browsing and document work at a reasonable price. But Windows 11 belongs installed on the RMS Titanic.

IdeaPad 3i – 15ITL6 with 8GB RAM and 1TB HDD is a decent laptop, but as it is configured from the factory, it has several issues that causes the system to perform very poorly as many reviewers and indicated.

The two main issues are the 1TB HDD drive and the factory configuration. The upgrading to SSD drive will significantly improve the system performance. The bloatware and One Drive setup are causing disk usage to be pegged at 100%.

I made the following changes to make the laptop to perform at an acceptable level still using the factory installed 1TB HDD. 1. Uninstalled the McAfee. Using the built-in Windows virus protection. 2.

Stopped the One Drive backup. From settings, Accounts, click on “Set up syncing” and stopped all backups. From my experiences, One Drive backup can really slow the system down especially on a slow HDD.

Use your own backup method. 3. Uninstalled Lenovo Vantage. Also uninstalled Lenovo Help / Support application. I keep on getting Lenovo help popups and I know this is also slowing the system down. 4.

Performed the Windows update. This took a really long time on a slow HDD. I would say that it took about 4 hours to complete. I used the Task Manager to watch the disk usage and until Windows update was finally completed (after many updates and restarts), the disk usage finally became normal (no longer at 100% usage).

Until the Windows update is completely finished (about 4 hours), attempt to use the system for any other purpose is NOT possible. Be sure to complete all Windows updates before attempting to use the laptop.

After these changes, the laptop works reasonably well. It is still little slow to boot up, shutdown and start the browser application, but it is acceptable. Next, I will upgrade to the SSD drive. This should make the system work almost as good as Windows 10 (but Windows 11 is still slower).

I saw another post, the reviewer installed fresh Windows 10 instead. This would be the best, but it is also the most work. I have not used Windows 11 until now, so I will upgrade to the SSD drive and keep Windows 11 and that should make the laptop perform fairly well.

Hope this helps someone who is considering purchasing this laptop. With little bit a work, you can get a decent working laptop at a reasonable price. Some other limitation is the USB C port is only for data, so you can’t connect external display via USB C.

Also, HDMI is only 1. 4b, so really only 1k external display support. The battery life seems little bit on a short side (I have not completely discharged yet), but my guess is around 3 hours of typical usage.
