Finally – All the features of MX series with mechanical characteristics! I’m already a BIG fan of the MX series, owning a full-size MX Keys keyboard and a separate Craft keyboard for my second workstation at my desk (for my creative work!).

I also have both an MX Master 3 and 3S mouse, an MX Vertical mouse, and the MX Anywhere portable mouse for travel (spoiler alert, I’m a Logitech peripheral fan!). Alas, I loved the MX series, but the keyboards required a compromise to take advantage of their build quality, backlighting, and reliability – Chiclet keys (low profile keys like a Laptop has!) The MX Mechanical doesn’t disappoint.

It has smooth, reliable key travel with a satisfying, but not-too-loud “clack” feedback that mechanical keyboard users crave. ALL of the MX Keys features are here, including customizability, EXCELLENT backlighting, and compatibility with Logitech’s own receiver format, and bluetooth PCs, tablets, phones and other compute devices.

There are a few new features specific to the mechanical keyboard that I thought were great: – The keys are two-tone, separating alphanumeric keys from functional counterparts – ABCDEFG1234 etc are all in a lighter gray cast, while SHIFT, ALT, CTRL, TAB, SPACE, etc are a darker color – It just gives the keyboard some style without losing the professionalism of the MX line – It would fit in with a business PC on an office desk, or in front of the latest gaming PC and frame sync monitor.

It really bridges the two worlds. – The keys aren’t just backlit, but customizable. There are multiple backlight settings available – Not just brightness adjustments. A few of note include a “wave” pattern to show off the variable backlighting in a wave pattern across the keyboard, and “breathe” pulse of all the keys, and a “contrast” feature (my favorite) where the functional keys are highlighted vs the alphabetical keys – Something that makes a difference for me in finding my way around the keyboard in my peripheral vision in a dark office.

There are a few quirks as well, mostly due to a generational leap that Logitech is making: – This keyboard is NOT compatible with Logitech’s UNIFYING receivers that they’ve been including with peripherals for YEARS now.

They have upgraded it to a new technology called Logitech BOLT which will replace UNIFYING in their lineup. BOLT has some technical advantages, such as reduced USB bandwidth and I believe better coverage/reduced latency but this will disappoint those who are only upgrading one peripheral and expected backwards compatibility with their other desktop components.

BOLT is the new UNIFYING at Logi, but you’ll need to upgrade everything to take advantage. – Just as with the hardware, the software is being replaced also- Gone is support for Logitech Options, the keyboard and mouse customization software for the rest of the MX series, to be replaced by Logitech Options+, which gets nary a mention on their Options website.

I spent about 30 minutes troubleshooting how I had the latest version of Options and STILL couldn’t see my MX Mechanical in its configuration screen. The good news here is that Options+ DOES support many of the older MX series items also, so upgrading to it in a mixed estate should be no problem.

All in all this is a generational change, which will delight some and infuriate others, but I’m so happy to have this device, no doubt inspired by Logitech’s gaming division and enabled as well as the rest of the EXCELLENT MX Series, in the stable.

I loved it so much I went out and added an MX Master 3S to the set (which I will review separately) just to have everything on my station on BOLT and Options+ and to take advantage of its improvements.

I am very skeptical of low profile keyboard in general, I have tried only couple of brands, the Keychron K1 and the Logitech G915 KTL so I can’t be so sure if the whole low profile keyboard market is that bad.

The Keychron K1 looks attractive, but for sure it can not compare with the quality and design concept from Logitech, where the G915 KTL looks stunning in every way, but when it comes to typing experience, both the Keychron K1 and the Logitech G915 feel terrible.

Here is why they are bad, they are both having the similar problems, the low profile switches and the keycaps are so loose, if you put a finger on a key, don’t press down but move your finger tip around, the key is basically follows you finger tip, this is where the problem is.

When type ping, you need to feel the stable keys and that where your typing confident is. When the keys are so loose and moving around to much, your typing experience and confident will start to go down, they will cause a lot miss type because your brain keep on telling your fingers to re-adjust to fine sweet table spot, but there is none, because of the keys design and the keycap with two legs insert design make the whole key construction even more unstable.

That is the key point of what a good keyboard about. Okey, that is the enough talk about the old stuffs! Let us now talk about the new low profile MS mechanical keyboard, I bought the Mini version with Clicky switches (I have alway been loving the clicky switches).

This is the key to the overall feel and confident when typing and this is why this keyboard is a lot more satisfying compare to the G915. There are so many review nuts on YouTube they talk too much about stuffs like sound test and mod this mod that, listening to them will dry you crazy.

For me I just wanted to focus on the satisfaction and how confident I feel when typing, because that is what you do, you need the keyboard so you can type text all day, not to listen to what kind of should the keyboard producing, or this and that.

One other important aspect about the keyboard is the layout position of every key, a good layout contributes a lot to how quick one can learn and adapt to keyboard and become productive when you work, for that I think the MX full size and the mini are very well design and I have no complaint what so every with Logitech good track record on keyboard overall design and layout.

One addition sell point about this keyboard is it’s ability to automatically select Mac or Windows keys map this is the feature I wanted for a long time but not many company out there make the Mac Ready keyboard like Logitech, I think they finally get it.

The Mac is taking over the PC market and that is why Logitech starting to listen to its customer request features. I am going to keep this MX Mechanical Mini as my main daily keyboard. I wish if Logitech will put the same switches and keycaps on the G915, that will be even a better keyboard in every way, I love the G915 KTL design and KTL layout is my standard form of compact keyboard, unfortunately Logitech put the bad switch on the current G915 and that makes it such when typing, if they upgrade the switches to something like this MX mini or better, I will buy it right the way.

Something to improve on are the switch can be a little more tightly build and more stable, little less wiggle will be even better, if you have ever type on the Pro X gaming keyboard, you will know what it mean to be the best keyboard that I have been using as my daily coding keyboard for many years, the feel is amazing, I can type fast and so confident with PRO X KTL gaming keyboard.

For that, I thinks this both the full size and the mini are very well design and I have tom complaint what so every about the layout. I think they finally get it. That is why I am going to keep this MX Mechanical Mini as my main daily keyboard. I they upgrade the switch to something like this MX mini, I will buy it in a hearth right the way. One this to improve on is that I think the switch can be a little more stable, a little less wiggle will be even better.

like the gaming keyboard Pro X keyboard that I have been using as my daily coding keyboard, the feel is amazing, I can type fast and so confident with PRO X KTL gaming keyboard. I purchased this to expand the space in my PS5. Unfortunately, the internal SSD that’s built into the system isn’t that large. It’s approximately 850GB and you can fill that up quite quickly considering the OS for the PS5 etc eats up quite a bit of space.

Then add on a few games and those games add-ons and the space dwindles quickly. I already had a 8TB for my PS4 games moving from a PS4 and a PS4 Pro. PS5 games are quite large these days and many gaming studios no longer take the time to compress them.

I wanted the 4TB but it was a little out of my budget so I settled for the 2TB. I’m the type I like to put the largest capacity disk in my console so I get some longevity out of it even when the next-gen comes out.

I coupled this SSD with the Sabrent Heatsink for PS5 Consoles since it’s the heatsink and cover all in one. I notice a negligible difference but I know my games load like they’re screaming. You literally can’t blink and it’s already up and ready to run.

It also moves games over super fast. I now don’t have to make the decision of deleting something because I lack space. And even though the PS5 is backward compatible with PS4 games, you can only play PS5 games from the SSD’s.

(i. e. I could move some PS5 games over when I ran out of space, but if I wanted to play them I had to move them back to the internal SSD) I know you may be thinking well why is it so expensive? I wondered the same I looked up some detailed reviews and decided to go with the FireCuda because of its longevity and 5yr warranty.

If you look at other drives in this category and similar they don’t have the ability to be overwritten for the length this does. If you can remember far back enough, when SSD’s first released that was the biggest issue that kept many from switching to them.

The overwrite lengths back then were short and the drives were even MORE expensive than they are now. My, how times have changed.

Added this to my PS5 and it provides some needed storage. I do notice that the system runs hotter and louder when using a game installed on the Firecuda SSD. I have noticed some lags on the system. I have also received some crashes i didnt have before the install.

When playing a game from the Firecuda and pressing start, i can hear the fan and system get softer but, as soon as i resume the game, it gets louder again. It also does this when holding the PS button.

Not sure what that’s about. Also, For some reason, putting this in was trickier than adding an ssd to my ps4. It was hard to tell when sliding the SSD in the slot if it was placed completely in correctly as there was no click noise or feedback.

The PS5 or the Firecuda did not come with the NVME screw so i had to pay $15 for a pack of them as I couldn’t just find one at the hardware store. It was extremely hard to remove the bay screw from the PS5 and i had to use a lot of force.

Some online searches show others had similar experiences. So far this thing has held up and my ps5 is still alive so for the most part everything seems fine. I prefer to run things on the PS5 ssd because of less fan noise and cooler run.

Time will tell if this thing holds up. Sony should have released proprietary SSD’s like Xbox.

I admit that this drive is EXPENSIVE but completely worth it. I play a lot of games, so many that I have always expanded my consoles in some way, either I got a console with a lot of memory or I did it myself.

This thing is blazing fast and extremely easy to install once you figure out how to take off the ps5 cover without breaking it. I honestly struggled more with that stupid plastic cover than slotting the ssd in and securing it with the screw.

It’s a perfect fit and it’s plug and play. Once you get your system back on, the PlayStation will pick it up immediately and ask you to format it and that’s honestly it. Congratulations you’re good to go! Also you can still use an external drive if that is your prerogative, just plug it back in after you format the ssd, it won’t pick it up otherwise.

Moving the games took seconds, like it’s literally insane how fast it is. My advice if you’re looking for a good amount of memory but don’t want to drop the money for a 4TB, get a 2TB and no lower, the write and read speeds are not simply there.

The drives can go up to the speeds that are advertised on the box but it’s a different story once you plug that drive in, with everything the more memory you have the better performance you’re going to get out of it.

Keep that in mind when you’re trying to make your purchase. Hope this helps!.

I’ve been using Thinkpads since 1997. I’ve purchased hundreds through the companies I have worked for and a few for personal use. My personal use case has always been the higher end workstation class of Thinkpads and I use them for a number of years.

I use Linux on my laptops and I need three mouse buttons and the TrackPoint is by far and away the best pointing device for a laptop and I won’t buy a laptop without it. I don’t like trackpads as you always have to take your hands off the home row of keys and clicking and dragging items is not nearly as easy as using the TrackPoint.

I will use an external mouse over a trackpad every time if I have the option. My personal Thinkpads have been the A31p, W500, P70, and now the P17 Gen2. As for weight, my P17 Gen2 fully loaded comes out to 7.

1 pounds. My P70 fully loaded was 8. 6 pounds and I can feel the difference in the lighter P17 Gen2. My P17 Gen 2 has the 8 core Xeon processor and 128 GB of ECC memory. I have three SSDs install, one for Windows and two for Linux using ZFS along with needing virtual machines and that is why I need ECC memory.

Overall I like the P17 Gen2. But, and there is always a but, I have some things that I don’t care for Lenovo’s design decisions. Compared to the P70, it is missing the dedicated volume buttons and the storage activity LED.

Keyboard travel is less than the P70 and has a hint of a mushy feeling compared to the P70. The physical Trackpoint is smaller and a smidgen less precise along with being harder to configure under Linux.

As for Windows they gimp the TrackPoint. By default the middle mouse button does not do a middle mouse click or scrolling at the same time but one or the other. There are ways around that under Windows by using the W10wheel utility from Github.

The storage devices has also been reduced in the P17 Gen2 from the P70’s four to the P17’s three. The only advantages the P17 Gen2 has over the P70 is a brighter screen, 128GB of maximum memory, and newer CPU/GPU.

The P17 Gen2 should have comes with a 16:10 screen and with the bezels being so big they could have fit in a 18″ screen. Now lets look at the bad Lenovo Thinkpad design decisions made over last 15 years.

The keyboard gets worse with each generation. They moved away from a deep key travel 7 row keyboard that had dedicated buttons for volume, brightness, etc. (I use my F1-12 keys all the time). They gimped the TrackPoint under Windows instead of making it better.

The TrackPoint used to be able to be pressed to act as a mouse click along with the middle scroll and middle click working out of the box. Lenovo, you should be making your Thinkpads better, not worse.

I understand with trying to make the laptops thinner you have to make the keyboard have a shorter travel for something like the X1 series, but don’t do it to the workstation class of Thinkpads. As for the future, Lenovo is discontinuing the P15 and P17 to merge it into the P16.

I think the P16 is a great idea for those that want something in between the P15 and P17. Though for those of us that work almost exclusively on our laptop and not being hooked up to an external monitor, don’t take away the option for a larger screen.

There will always be those of us that need more power and a true workstation class of laptop. So make us a P18 with a 16:10 screen, 4 storage devices, a seven row keyboard along with everything else a larger workstation should have.

I want to give it 5 stars, but there are some improvements that need to be made. The positives are what everyone has mentioned, extremely solid build quality, which is awesome. 1. Screen opens all the way back, love that.

2. Keyboard is both great and not so great in a way. 3. TrackPoint is spectacular. 4. TrackPad is okay, needs improvement. Doesn’t track perfectly with small and slight movements. I definitely like the soft and quiet noise when clicking the trackpad compared to other laptop’s loud clunk noise.

5. I love that the speakers are top firing. 6. Fingerprint sensor is very fast. 7. Camera is fine. Now the issues I had with it: 1. The TrackPoint stopped working until I put the laptop to sleep or restarted it (I forget which), at which point it resumed working.

I read that it’s common and there’s a fix but Lenovo doesn’t want to fix it for some reason. 2. TrackPad really needs the buttons back and needs improvement in tracking. I don’t like TrackPads without the 2 or 3 buttons below.

All companies are removing them, no idea why. They think gigantic trackpads are important, and they’re not. Thanks Apple for ruining both laptops and smartphones with your horrid removal of important features, causing all other companies to follow your restricted ways.

3. Screen: while the 4k is great and very sharp, the viewing angles are strange. First, it feels like a lower quality screen. It’s difficult to explain, but my Legion 7i Gen 6 has a nicer quality screen (QHD) with no discoloration.

The P17 G2’s screen turns red when you’re viewing the screen from above or below. That is very strange. There’s also a feeling of lower quality, like a shiny material on it, it’s difficult to explain, which is what I am used to in older ThinkPads that had bad displays.

Sad to see that in such a premium and expensive machine. Colors are still great though, very vibrant and accurate. Though, I think contrast is better on my Legion 7i, if not mistaken. And, all P17 Gen 2 and P16 Gen 1 laptops’ screens are at 60hz for some reason.

Why not move to 120hz minimum? And, when unplugging, force change to 60hz or with fn+r, like on Legion laptops. 4. Speakers: they are top firing, which is superb, and they sound very clear, but they really lack bass.

Nahimic doesn’t work here, but the Dolby software does and does improve the sound quality. It’s a huge machine, and smaller machines from other companies have 4 or 6 speakers! Lenovo sticks with 2, which is fine, but at least make the speakers bigger with 3 or 4w each.

The Legion 7i’s speakers are at 2w, supposedly, not sure I believe that since they sound like 4w speakers, and are very powerful, sound amazing, but bottom firing so not that clear until you lift the laptop.

Premium machines should always have high end speakers. 5. Keyboard: love the curved keys and keys should always be curved on keyboards. And, 1. 8mm of travel is pretty good, though I would prefer 2 to 2.

5 much more. Sadly, they’re moving to 1. 5mm with the P16, which I also bought (waiting for delivery), and that is very disappointing since it makes typing more difficult, with more mistakes. Now, the issues I have with the P17 G2’s keyboard is that it is like my Legion 7i, where the keys are harder to press.

The space key is very hard to press and some others keys as well. All other keys that are “easier” to press have a really strong tactile feel to them, which might “feel” nice, but isn’t benefitial for typing as they’re too hard and not soft to type.

I end up making mistakes. My wife has a simple Dell Inspiron 17in’ QHD (which is what Lenovo should go for and no 16″ for new business laptops!), and it has a simple keyboard with soft to press keys.

It’s very comfortable to type on, no need to force. 6. The fans are pretty quiet, but they do make a high pitched noise, unfortunately, especially the one on the left. 7. There’s no way to change from the iGPU/Hybrid to dGPU/discrete in Vantage (or anywhere in Windows) but we’re forced to go to the BIOS to do that change.

Legion laptops have it in Vantage (in addition to having Advanced Optimus, no need to reboot). 8. It does heat up fairly quickly in intensive tasks or in games, but no throttling so far. Not sure if it will throttle but the GPU was at the max, 87c, after which it will throttle, and CPU at 100c.

For such a big laptop, this shouldn’t happen in the first 2 weeks of ownership. I think it needs better thermal paste. 8. The laptop is big and thick, which I am fine with, but with all that space, they could have added bigger speakers, more airflow/bigger fans, etc.

So, since it’s so large, they should have reduced its body size and have thinner bezels, though I do appreciate bezels for picking it up or opening/closing the screen. 9. The BIOS has lots of features, but yet lacks useful features.

It’s also slow, for some reason. Needs a redesign and to make it instant. 10. The camera privacy slider is difficult to operate since you need to use your nails and even then, it gets stuck when sliding it, for some reason.

Apart from the above, the RTX A4000 is very powerful and plays games with almost the same FPS as my RTX 3070 in my Legion 7i.

I was excited when I first saw the availability of this model. It was advertised with 86WH or 52WH battery based on configuration. I chose the one with the highest configuration in terms of screen, memory (32GB), storage (1TB), and believed I would be getting the 86WH variant.

At that time it was too new to have any review, but I trust Lenovo especially with the ThinkPad brand to be with top notch quality, so even though it says ships in 2 months I still happily ordered. Upon receiving it, the build quality is totally great.

I like the screen especially, and it seems to be of similar quality to my Legion 5 Pro with Ryzen 5800 w/ RTX3070, which is excellent but too heavy for road, and hence the purchase of this P16s. However I soon discovered the battery life is too short.

I intentionally picked this model over anything with a dedicated video card so I can bring it on the road. Unfortunately the power died on my trip from DC to NY on the train, for a merely 3 hrs travel.

Then I realized this one came with the very small 52WH battery. After many reviewers posted the same concern, I saw Lenovo’s website now removed all 86WH battery references and just 52WH across the board.

I think this is a very strange decision on Lenovo’s side. At one hand you have a very nice laptop that checks every single box, with a light weight to fit a road worrier’s need. At the other hand it’s equipped with a super small battery that did not survive a 3 hours trip.

I have to be honest that I would not have bought this if I have known it will only be shipped with 52WH battery. I considered returning it but I do like the unit. At the end of day, I use it for regular things, and on business trip I had to carry extra battery which negate the saving of the weight.

Or I had to bring the 3 years old Dell XPS which always gave me over 6 hours. I think Lenovo should do the right thing to swap the battery for those purchaser who ordered the top trim during the time it was advertised with 86WH battery.

For the purchases made after the spec was changed to 52WH only then they knew what they will be getting. Not us when we thought we will be getting the 86WH ones. It’s similar to buy a car which advertises with either 5LV8 or 2LI4 engines.

When the buyer happily to go with the top trim, only to find that ALL CARS ARE EQUIPPED WITH THE 2L 4 CYLINDER ENGINE. Yes, that’s exactly how it feels. Otherwise, this is such a great laptop. I didn’t try the gaming performance because I have already the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro for that.

This is strictly for business and when plugged in, the performance is truly top notch.

I Purchased the P17 (i9-10885H processor, UHD, 32GB ram, 1TB SSD) as a replacement for my aging W540 (3K display) which has been running almost continuously for 6 years. I do mostly code development for embedded systems and some web development with graphics manipulation.

I like having high resolution as it gives me maximum desktop space when on the road without having to rely on external monitors. With this purchase I wanted to avoid problems experienced with the W540 while retaining the track point.

The W540 has a weird keyboard layout that forces you off center and the integrated touch pad/mouse buttons never worked right. It also runs very hot all the time and slows down significantly when it is really cooking.

So far ( a week or so) the P17 has been a marked improvement in almost every way. It does not run hot although I have not really stressed it yet. The keyboard/track point/mouse buttons are excellent, the power management, sleep/hibernate startup times, fingerprint reader, and networking are all very responsive.

It is a heavy beast but my W540 was heavy as well so it is really no different if you are used to that kind of thing. I expect it to be a computing engine with full workstation ability so I am not put off by the size or weight.

Given the 17″ form factor I don’t expect to be using it on airplanes unless I have the luxury of biz class but it is manageable and getting to the destination with a full on workstation in hand is very powerful.

The display at max resolution is gives you a great desktop to spread out documents and code. However, given the fine point size, you may need to dig out your reading glasses. Screen contrast/intensity is even and bright but I’m not doing fine color rendering so I can’t comment on the accuracy.

Computing performance seems pretty good although at this point I have not stressed the machine in any significant way. Most of the work has involved migrating and installing development tools of various sorts.

The SSD disk is obviously a great improvement over prior SATA drives. This is my 4th Thinkpad starting with the original IBM manufactured models and all have all have given me great productive lifetimes.

In the few cases I’ve had repair issues, the service was quick and responsive. I’m looking forward to using this tool for the next 5-7 years.

Mine is not a baseline P17 – I loaded it up with the i9-10980HK running at 2. 4 to 5. 3 GHz, 64 GB RAM, the NVIDIA Quadro RTX-3000, and two 2 TB SSDs with OPAL encryption. With the fingerprint reader for login it’s all of maybe 5 seconds from power-on to desktop! I wanted a true mobile workstation and I think I have it.

With a battery that they claim will give up to 14 hours of service, being out in the boonies for a workday should be no problem. But this is not a system you want to be lugging around trying to make airline connections – but I knew that going in and intentionally chose the 17″ model over a 15″ for a more usable screen when I’m not in a place with a larger external monitor available.

Also, if you buy a case to carry it in, choose carefully because this is a 17. 3″ unit and some cases made for 17″ laptops are. 3-inches too small to get the zippers over the corners! It runs warm, but not hot – checking temperatures on all 8 cores I generally see temperatures right at 40C (max operating temperature is 100C).

Would I recommend it to a friend? Absolutely but I’d give them a heads-up that to get one that performs like this one does, be prepared to break out the big checkbook or heavy-duty credit card. Thankfully, Lenovo’s almost continuous in-house discount codes ease the pain considerably, and if you are military (active duty or not) there’s an extra 10% discount available at checkout, be sure and look for it and jump through the few hoops required to verify your status.

Back to performance for a bit and I’ll let you start customizing your own! Using the latest version of AIDA64 it benchmarks at #8 for the CPU Queen test with the 7 above it all having more than 8 cores and all were obviously custom built systems on Gigabyte or SuperMicro motherboards.

For the CPU PhotoWorxx test it was #9 with the majority above it being 10, 16, 20 or even 32 core CPUs and again on non-OEM boards. Same story with the rest of the series of tests – placed in the top 10 in all of them with most results at #7 mark against 10, 20 or 32 CPU driven systems and I’m betting all were in tower cases, not a laptop!.

Summary: I was looking for a computer that would work well for machine learning heavy lifting, software development, and also be useable as a laptop for light work. I can confirm that this high-end P17 fits these needs.

Configuration (maxed out everything): xeon10885, 128gb ecc, rtx5000, 4k display, 2x2tb ssd, Windows for workstations Size vs Weight: It is a personal preference whether the larger screen is worth the extra weight.

I don’t have to travel a lot and I like to see code and apps side-by-side so, for me, the larger screen is definitely worth the extra 2lbs compared to the P15. I did need a larger laptop bag to fit it 🙂 Performance: Given the reported heat issues with prior models, you may be wondering about the heat and performance.

If you are plugged-in and running heavy workloads for long periods involving multiple cpu cores and gpu, it is going to run pretty warm but the fans keep it from being too hot. There will likely be thermal cpu throttling so don’t expect to see the quoted 5.

3ghz turbo speed in that situation. In Ultra Performance Mode, sustained 4. 3ghz under a heavy workload or benchmark is more typical for mine. GPU: If you are doing machine learning in 2021, the rtx 6000 is not widely available so the rtx 5000 is the current top of the line “pro” workhorse in mobile workstations.

16 gb of gpu ram allows for large models trained on large datasets. If you do this kind of work, you’ll appreciate having the extra ram and gpu cores. If you need more, you will have to go with an egpu or a cloud option.

The whole max-q/mobile clock speed question is still a bit unclear. At purchase, the P17 gpu was quoted as “Max-Q” but, in Device Manager, the card is identified as “Quadro RTX 5000” – no “Max-Q” in the name.

423752. 0. html) a boost speed of 1545 equates to RTX 5000 Mobile with TGP = 110 W. You can research the gpu benchmarks but I can confirm that the rtx 5000 works well with TensorFlow-based workflows.

Battery (and heat): I need the computer to be a functional laptop for light workloads and was initially disappointed. In Balanced Mode, I would disconnect from power and, doing light work and/or web browsing, I got less than 2 hrs on battery.

And, as the battery got lower, the computer would get progressively hotter to an unbearable level. One day, as I was seeing the battery start to quickly drain, I restarted and the battery drain slowed down and it was not overheating.

A simple reboot seemed to fix the problem and give me >5hrs battery time and fix the heat issue! This is consistent, repeatable behavior if I unplug after the computer is on/plugged-in overnight. I don’t see an obvious application or other cause to explain this — maybe a driver, a sleep-wake issue, or a mis-calibrated idle time process.

Maybe Lenovo can fix this but, until then, I can live with a simple restart after unplugging to give me 3x+ battery/heat improvement. Display: I’m not a graphic design expert but I have no complaints.

I often run it at 1920 x 1080 just to avoid any potential application text scaling weirdness but I have the high-res mode when I need it. Misc: – I like the keyboard and even the number pad. However, I would be happy to give up the number pad for a smaller screen bezel and more compact form factor.

– I like the fingerprint reader. – I like the physical camera privacy shutter. – The camera itself is not really up to modern camera quality. – It is noticeably thinner than the older P71 but just as heavy 🙂 – I miss the bottom touchpad buttons.

Using the built-in touchpad buttons, I have to press harder so my hand gets tired after long hours of use. The buttons above the touchpad are designed for use with the track pointer but I haven’t used a track pointer in many years.

– The bottom edge of the wrist rest is kind of sharp so it can cause some discomfort depending on the angle of your wrists. – As others have noted, the ThinkPad black case material is a skin oil/fingerprint magnet.

A laptop skin will help keep fingerprints from being so visible on the top cover. – Lap use: The air intake is on the bottom so if you are doing work in your lap, you may want a lap pad. The P17 has little feet so sitting on a flat surface allows better airflow for better cooling.

The computer is brilliant and really love the possibility of hardware customisation available if required. I was expecting the software to be bloated with HP software but that is not the case, which is welcoming.

Straightforward setup and performs as expected

I am a long-time ReadyNAS user (both at home and at work) and have used the ReadyNAS for backup and disaster recovery at work for over 7 years. I have also been using and recommending Netgear ReadyNAS for many of my customers.

Netgear sent me a complimentary ReadyNAS 526x in exchange for providing a fair and honest review of the unit. The new ReadyNAS 526x units have eliminated the need for all of the complicated backup settings and firewall issues with the introduction of ReadyNAS Replicate.

After enabling the Replicate service on the devices, the administrator can log into the Replicate Portal and quickly and easily setup secure backup jobs between devices. Additionally, with the ability to create unlimited snapshots, the user has ability to restore individual files, folders or the entire system from a specific point in time.

My original disaster recovery installation included a ReadyNAS 2100 at our main location to receive backups from a dozen various servers (Windows, Red Hat and Linux-based VoIP phone system), as well as 2 others units located at our other sites.

Every night, the main site backups are sent to the off-site locations. At that time, the setup and configuration of the backup jobs on the ReadyNAS was fairly straight-forward but required some knowledge setting up the NAS protocols (such as rsync), security (SSH keys) and IP addresses & paths for the remote units, as well as some firewall knowledge with respect to port-forwarding.

The new OS on the ReadyNAS 526x makes offsite backups extremely simple, even for novice users. The ReadyNAS just works. Outside of the occasional drive failure or upgrade to increase capacity, I have not had to fiddle with anything.

As a side note, my original ReadyNAS NV+ that I purchased way back in 2007 is still in service today and provides backup and media streaming services.

I needed to update my NAS. The Iomega, now Lenovo, PX4-300d is getting fairly old, product wise. Migrating most of my network to NETGEAR (firewall, WiFi, etc. ) so adding a NAS from Netgear made sense.

I opted for the ReadyNAS-RN248. It had the upgraded CPU and is powerful enough for our office. Plus with 8 drive bays, it has plenty of space for storage and backup.

I have been using Netgear NAS for years and have just recently upgraded to their latest RN42600. They are easy to set up, very reliable and built like a tank. It is great value for money as the performance and quality is superb.

A very compact computer that is a bit underwhelming as a CAD workstation – you can only put in a mediocre GPU with a 35W T-class CPU before the PSU start struggling – so you won’t be looking at a rendering beast or modelling an international airport in LOD500.

But that is entirely missing the point – this is not a Workstation. This is a 1 litre chassis that has – AMT management, – official Ubuntu support (if that helps procurement signing it off), – 2x SODIMM slots up to 2x32GB, – 2x PCI-E4 x4 NVMe bays, and – an internal PCI-E3 x8 Half height expansion bay allowing non-proprietary cards.

This combination of factors make the P350 Tiny fairly unique in the SERVER market. The flexibility the PCI-E slot makes this a very versatile edge solution – with a single 40GbE QSFP+ NIC like a MCX353A-QCBT you can have a low footprint on prem storage/SQL etc solution; with a small Quadro you can have a competent CUDA compute node; with a PCI-E capture card you can have a video capture station you can stick behind a VESA monitor.

The possibilities are endless. The only thing to consider is whether 11th Gen P350 warrants the higher price over its older siblings 10th Gen P340 and 8/9th Gen P330, which still offers everything listed above at a bargain price.

However if you are reading thisreview when Alder Lake P360 is already out – do have a think about those as the Efficiency cores might drastically improve the utility of a small node like this.

I’ve been doing PC’s for both personal and professional use, in one iteration or another since my first Apple II GS (with the optional 1 megabyte of RAM). I’ve owned hardware from several different manufacturers.

Some have been great, some not so much. I had my first experience with Lenovo back in 2014, with a pair of ThinkCentre M83’s (Windows 7 Pro, updated to Win 10). They were recommended by a friend who is an IT consultant.

The experience with them has been excellent, and by that I mean they have been used daily, seven days a week without a hitch. While they take a little longer to boot now than when they were new, once up and running, they are still quick.

I have also purchased Lenovo Chromebooks for my (now) 10-year-old grandkids. I can’t quite say the kids have abused them, but aside from me making sure they stay updated, the kids haven’t exactly treated them like the crown jewels.

They are also still running fine. To the P348, I’ve always preferred to spec my own tech. It’s getting more difficult to find “customize and buy”. The P348 had the best number of options in the function and performance categories I could find, and I did spend a fair amount of time looking.

The price was, I thought, very fair for what I was getting, and I managed to hit the timing right with a coupon or two. Without going through the whole list, I opted for the i9 processor, 32 GB of memory, and the NVIDIA T-400 video card, among other things.

It did take a couple of months to build and ship, but that’s the nature of today’s world. It came very well packaged and arrived a little earlier than I expected it to. The video card requires mDP cables, which I had ordered in advance.

Once unpacked, I was up and running in about 10 minutes. The machine, even with the fan running is very quiet. With the SSD as a boot drive, from power on, it is ready to go in around 30-45 seconds. While not specific to the hardware manufacturer, the Windows 11 is pretty simple to set up, and is functionally close enough to Win 10 so as not to cause any real headaches.

Performance wise, the thing screams. I haven’t had it long, I’m writing this review about two weeks after receiving it. Not that I expect to need it, but I did opt for the 3 year premier support upgrade.

It’s priced very reasonably, making me think that Lenovo has enough faith in their equipment to feel I’m not going to need it.

The system overall is a work of art, it’s amazing. The problem was the fact that I got a custom brand new system which took 2 months to come in, then when it came, 2/4 ram slots did not read anything.

I called premium support (signed up for 5 years) which they did a diagnosis and came to realize that the motherboard might be DOA. So, they send a NEW RAM to diagnosis. Tech came in the next day to diagnose, figured it was a dead motherboard, so the tech called lenovo to send in the motherboard.

I did get the motherboard on the next day in which lenovo sent out a tech after 1 day of the part arriving. problem was, the motherboard that the factory sent is again DOA. so they had to send out another motherboard, took another 2 days to get the tech.

fortunately the tech from peopletogo was amazing and accomodating, he installed the new motherboard and the PC was finally up and running! After being so excited, I started installing all the programs and all and yet again found that the microsoft office I have bought is a subscription and not a permanent license.

(when I bought my old lenovo t470p, the option for microsoft office on the first page of building your system was always permanent, now it’s not) So, be wary of what software you purchase!!! read them first because lenovo wont tell you it’s a subscription.

overall experience is terrible but like I said, the PC is a work of art. I am just overall sad.

The computer arrived well packaged and as promised and overall seems to work smooth and fast. The setup took some time. Several (20+) software updates were required. This was not readily apparent initially and caused a delay in loading other software.

Because this is an All-In-One, setting it up in its final working location is difficult because of the requirement to access the rear ports to connect USB, HDMI and power cord. Ultimately, I was unable to successfully connect the HDMI and because of the fragility of this connection, I believe the pins are bent and the port doesn’t function.

The wire concealment in the base stand is good once the connecting wires are patiently threaded through the slot on either side of the stand. There is easy access to USB – C and USBx2, mute and headphones on the right side next to the power switch.

The initial setup frustration made a negative first impression. Once set complete the computer seems to work smooth and fast for MS apps and CNC CAD software. I would purchase again if on sale.

I love this All-In-One Thinkcentre as I do graphic design and was definitely getting tired of trying to do home-based work on a laptop screen. This is a great system. However, I would have given this review 5-stars but for one experience that made getting the system set up a great difficulty.

When I was ordering it I did NOT realize I had to specify wanting a wi-fi adapter installed on it. I just assumed the capability came with it as the specifications do not make it obviously clear to the buyer.

So, it could not pick-up my wi-fi signal to connect to the internet, which caused me a nightmare of trying to determine why. I tried different wireless routers to pick up a signal and resorted to hooking it up directly to my living room router via an ethernet cable.

Definitely not what I wanted to do since my home office is another room of my house and I was not going to have cables and extentions running down the floor of my hallway to get the internet. After finally determining that there was no wi-fi capability in the system AT ALL I bought a wireless adapter add-on that plugs into a USB port on the back of the monitor.

That worked perfectly and I was able to set up my home office. So my one complaint is that Lenovo should make it VERY clear that a buyer needs to specify the wi-fi capability installed or they will need an add-on piece of hardware.

To the average person who may not be so “tech-savvy” they may easily overlook this detail when ordering. I’m enjoying the system now and love it.

We generally install the m75q’s in business because of their extremely tiny form factor. However in several instances this m75s seems to be a better fit. We have several clients that still need and use DVD drives and having the ability to add additional peripherals internally is important for others.

Having the additional memory slots is also a huge Plus for some of our power users who use 64 or 128 gigs of RAM. Overall we have been very satisfied with these units, and the AMD processor and graphics combo works perfectly for our Adobe using clients as well.

It seems to work fine with InDesign as well as illustrator. I would recommend these for any business deployments where you need a lot of power in a small form factor.

This workstation is very adequate for my Autocad 3D work. My model file size range around 45Mb and handles smoothly in realistic as well as x-ray view modes. The workstation was easy to set up, is quite, and sufficiently expandable for my needs, despite its relatively small size.

I appreciate the built in bluetooth and wireless connectivity which serve as a backup for me in case the wired network is down. I like having the CD/DVD and SD card reader as standard options in case I ever need them.

I expanded this workstation with a 1TB SSD for data, and purchased from Lenovo a second 16MB of RAM module for a total of 32MB. I positively noted that Lenovo provided both a SATA cable (terminated to the motherboard) and a power cable for my SSD expansion.

With i7 11th gen processor, T1000 Nvidia graphics, 32MB RAM, and M2 SSD mounted directly to the motherboard, this workstation should be good for sometime.

While I would like this to be a more glowing review it cannot be yet. The P350 Tiny I received was packaged well and setup was easy. It is small and sleek looking if you want it on your desk, it can also be invisible mounted underneath it.

Unfortunately, that has been the only parts to go smoothly. We placed our first P350 Tiny Workstation order on 2/23 for overnight delivery. That order was delayed and then cancelled for “security concerns” on 2/27 and that top model was no longer available then.

Our 2nd attempt P350 Tiny Workstation ordered on 2/27 and arrived on 3/2. As of this writing on 3/13 it still will not boot to windows. Support has been slow to resolve the problem. The BIOS system checks all pass.

When turned on we receive an error stating Windows failed to install click ok to restart your computer and reinstall Windows. We received the same error fresh out of the box, using the recovery partition, and using the USB recovery media downloaded from the web site.

This has been very frustrating to date.

I have used Qnap NAS products for years. They have been very reliable, if not always the most speedy solutions around. This Ryzen based unit is very fast. I’m using M. 2 SSDs for cache and SATA SSDs for the first (system) pool.

The other six slots are HDDs in a RAID 6 pool. I am using QTS hero for the OS. I am very pleased so far. A couple things to note: 1. Make sure your SSD, HDD, and RAM choices are on the approved Qnap compatibility list.

You may run into problems if you stray from that list. 2. If you want to use QTS hero for the OS, you need a lot of RAM. To get 64 GB of memory, you will need 2 each SO-DIMMs. Since this is a NAS, which is a server, you will want to go with ECC RAM.

QTS hero uses ZFS for the file system, and ZFS needs huge amounts of RAM to work well. You probably want the full 64 GB. The compatible RAM chips are very difficult to find. 3. Do not expect this to fit into an EIA 19″ rack, even though it is a rack mounted unit.

You will need the ISO type of rack with square holes and the rack mounting kit from Qnap. This is a very frustrating situation. 4. This guy takes A LOT of time to set up and get usable. Plan ahead. 5.

QTSh does use QTS apps, so this is a great server for small businesses and organizations. Bottom line: recommended!.

I bought this NAS because it is both powerful and versatile. I am a total newbie with NAS so I need the versatility as my needs evolve. It’s essentially a small server which can do anything well – from VM and hosting to being a home media server.

It has a Xeon processor and RAM expandable up to 128GB. Its versatility comes from its hardware features. Not many NAS at this price level include internal M. 2 NVMe slots, 2. 5Gbps ethernet ports and two SATA bays for SSDs.

This means that you can run your system and primary pool on one set of SSDs (say M. 2 NVMe for fastest peak speeds), have your cache in another set of SSDs (say SATA bays at the front) and still enjoy a separate, secure and relatively fast RAID 10 array of four HDDs.

Or you can aggregate the four 2. 5Gbps into a single 10Gbps ethernet connection, run your system off the SATA SSDs (a little slower than M. 2s) but enjoy a blazing fast M. 2 cache that will make good use of your 10Gbps network.

You can also install a graphics card into one of the two M. 2 NVMe ports for video transcoding, for example. Whatever your specific requirements are, this unit can probably meet them. Important: the operating system QuTS Hero uses a data management system called ZFS.

ZFS is great at not losing your data while securely not wasting your valuable storage space. I love having the ZFS, because it allows a rigid RAID 10 (superior to RAID 6 for most uses). However, rigidity has its downsides: – ZFS does not let you expand an existing RAID array with an additional disk.

You have to set up the expanded RAID as a new array (will erase disks) or add the new drive as its own array. – its cache is very demanding on RAM (128GB recommended for 2TB cache), – does not have write caching – you cannot swap disks between QuTS Hero and QTS (non-ZFP) without having to reconfigure the disks (= erase).

– not sure if you can connect a QTS expansion unit via the USB or if it has to be a QuTS Hero unit. Another point of note is that the Xeon processor does not have a graphics unit. If you want this NAS to run videos internally (directly to an external display), you will need to install a graphics card in one of the two internal M.

2 slots. It’s just something to know. I still love ZFS for its protection and efficient use of disk space. I also prefer a read-only cache as opposed to a write-cache in RAID 1 with half the capacity.

I highly recommend this NAS to any small / medium business professional or a home user.

I bought this because I thought it would be more convenient than NAS I’ve make with old computers and Raspberry Pis. Absolutely wrong. It’s no easier to set up than putting Linux on an old computer or Pi.

There are very few apps available and they’re like apps on phones a decade ago. Even with the limited functionality, the apps are slow. With NAS on a Raspberry Pi I can play music without pauses on my network and through the internet.

When using QNAP’s music app there’s a pause after every song, even when the phone or computer is connected to the same router as the NAS. Read the QNAP forums before buying a QNAP NAS. I wish I had.
