20 Best Tool To Cut Bushes (2023 Updated)

I have a full size corded hedge trimmer. I hate it. I only have a few hedges and the time it takes to get everything organized to use it seems lime more of a hassle than it is worth, so my hedges usually get unruly.

I came across this little trimmer and decided to try it. It arrived 20 minutes ago. I slapped a 4 AH battery in it and finished about 10 minutes ago. Changing from the grass trimmer to the hedge trimmer was easy.

Just watch the grease when changing the blades. I was worried that it might not be able to handle the more branch like parts of the one hedge, but it was not an issue. With a 4 AH battery, it was still super light and easy to handle.

I like the shorter blade for the small hedges because I am working close and able to see the entire cutting area. I wasn’t worrying about a longer blade taking chunks out of the hedge next to the one I was working on.

I was able to get a nice shape to them very quicky. I had it on the shelf next to the trimmer that I am selling and the battery on the charger in no time. This is a game changer for me. This is the year my yard is going to look amazing thanks to the collection of Worx tools I have been gathering.

This tool arrived two days ago and I used it extensively to cut back the faded stems on about 50 feet of hostas and used the shrub trimmer on about 20 feet of low shrubs. It worked well. Certainly proving the adage that the right tool makes the job easier! I have two concerns – First, will the blades stay sharp ? Both blades worked well but will they stay sharp? Second, both blades had thick grease where the blade connects with the motor.

Will this last? Will it get gummy? I will try to update this review as time goes on. I see some criticisms about the strength of the motor. The 20V motors are simply not as powerful as a gas or even an electric motor – but I expected that to be in the case.

I found that the tool had the right power for the job. The first day that I used it, I thought that holding the safety button was a little annoying, but the second day, I didn’t even notice it. Bottom line – assuming it stays sharp, I am very satisfied with this purchase.

I bought this a couple of weeks ago and used it to trim all of the shrubs around my house. The small size with the 8” blade is the perfect size. It doesn’t tire my arm as I cut a lot of shrubs. However, the blade needs to oscillate about twice as fast.

It’s rather slow so I can only move it at a very slow pace for it to cut adequately. The second drawback is the bottom plate that keeps the blade attached to the tool comes off very easily. It came unattached several times during use and the blade fell off.

One time a small spacer also fell off and it took me 20 minutes to find it so I could reattach the blade. I was not cutting anything approaching the thickness that should have caused a problem. So, the concept is just right – a small handheld hedge trimmer that doesn’t tire you out.

The cons are that it seems underpowered and the blade attachment cover needs to be better attached so it doesn’t come off during use and potentially cause lost parts.

I bought one of the store brand pruners and they their latch messed up and took them back within 30 days. The manager let me upgrade to Corona, a “better” brand. I got these to keep in the truck to cut off thistle “flowers” before they could fly away.

At the end of the season, I noticed the sharp but very thin edge had broken away (sharpened wrong by factory or bad steel) only after light use. I tried to take them back to the store, but the clerk said the warranty was with Corona.

So, no different than mail order customer service. Good luck. I don’t know how on earth you could cut up to one inch with these; the metal chips on weed stems I mean, flower heads.

I don’t know if I got a faulty pair or what. I was SO excited about these after years of using fiskars and replacing them every couple years. They just feel sturdy in your hands. I decided to be very diligent in taking care of these since they were so expensive.

I’ve had them 1 month and used them 5 times, washing and throughly drying after each use. Just found them rusted shut. I had to sand them and coat them in lubricant to get them working again. I know it’s all downhill from here so I’m pretty angry about this ‘investment’.

Corona knows what they are doing in a solid workhorse pruner. These are solidly made, no-nonsense, and if you don’t lose them, will perform for years. I purchased a replacement pair as my previous set are missing after five years and nothing else cuts like a set of corona’s.

Weed clearing, tree pruning, these do the job. And the latchy thing isn’t forever falling into place preventing you from making a cut by obstructing the set from closing or from accidentally latching them shut.

The handle grippies don’t come off all the time either. These are a very worthwhile investment. I tend to have to hack junk volunteer elm trees so the one inch are important. I do have a few hand issues but have plenty strength to go around with these, because they do deliver ‘cut’.

No side play either when you bite into the branch. Cheaper types often twist that way and otherwise go to junk immediately. These stay on the mark. Use a set of Corona’s once and you’ll wonder why you ever bought the cheapy junky ones.

These clippers made it very easy to cut all the branches hanging in my yard and driveway. They worked well and I was able to get it all done much faster than I thought I would. They were easy to cut without using a lot of force.

Cuts through the blackberry bushes like butter!!! I¡¯m sure it will do just fine when it¡¯s time to trim the rose bushes back. And you get free gloves!!! They fit me just fine

It’s been a while since I last used a manual type hedge trimmer.electric was the preferred choice for quite a while. But now I only have a few shrubs to trim, so these will work for me

Update after over a year of owning these i still recommend then 100% I bought these at my local Home Depot a few months back for light duty pruning around my yard and a few neighbors’ yards that I work on.

And these are far from light duty! These things power through live branches with very little effort on my part. I will say they do not work as well on dead branches! I’ve tried them on: Holly /lilac /maples*red -silver -Japanese */pine /oak/ cypress / and more They are okay on roses but not great.

Pros Light and compact Sharp Easy to use Okay on the hands Reasonable price Cons After using them for a few months one of the handle covers *Lack of a better word* fell off and got lost. Maybe a pair with brightly colored handles so they are easy to spot.

Not a con just a suggestion!.

These compare to the mid-level Felco pruners but without the high price tag. They hold together at the joint better than many Corona and Fiskars when cutting larger limbs. The orange handles make them easier to find.

Nice product from Stihl.

This blower is very easy to flood. Use it for 30 minutes or so turn it off then 15 minutes later it will not start….time to find a reliable blower cause it ain’t the Stihl BG56C

Great pruning shears. A bit dirty and scuffed which makes me think they’re seconds but definitely Stihl and perform like a new pair. Get dirty after first use anyway.

My first Makita disappointment, I realised this tool was not a proper grass or hedge trimming machine, but on using it I was left regretting my purchase, the grass trimming was ok but nothing like the video, but although slow it worked after a fashion, the hedge cutter attachment, was for just taking the tips off a long low box hedge, but it stopped cutting after every one or two metres, I had to keep taking it apart and putting it back together again, it took me at least 6 times to do a 12 metre small hedge.

One Drive arm seemed to jump off it’s cam drive, although assembled as per instructions. Unit returned for refund. Will buy a battery Makita stand alone hedge trimmer instead.

A very handy garden tool. The Makita DUM604RTX is a top of the range cordless grass shear and hedge trimmer with a strong motor and long lasting battery. It can handle those jobs that cheaper competitors struggle with.

I’ve been extremely impressed with how well it is made, and how useful it is for an assortment of jobs around my garden. It’s proved to be a huge timesaver. I was initially reluctant to make this purchase due to the price, but it has proved to be well worth the money.

The handles on this lopper simply will not stay locked. It is frustrating, and potentially dangerous, as I found out when trimming a limb, and one handle unexpectedly collapsed. Had I not been braced I would have fallen into the tree.

This item should be recalled or replaced with one in which the handles securely lock. Otherwise this lopper worked great when cutting woody plants.

I’ve used the 1″ plus shears that are out, and not been pleased, since there’s always one branch that’s bigger than their bite. With these shears, I can make to partial bites on one side, and a final on the opposite and cut about 3″.

They’ve done the trick, stayed sharp, and exceeded my expectations. My wife, a slight young thing, with tender sensibilities, also finds she can work well with them.

This tool is perfect for my husband to use to prune our citrus trees. He is 81 years old, so he likes that the tool is lightweight and has the shoulder strap to give him added stability. Using this tool means he no longer has to climb the trees to do the pruning and I like that.

This is an amazing piece of kit. I have dislocated my shoulder 3 times and have a really difficult time holding loppers up over my head. These are so light that they don’t bother my shoulder and they do a great job.

The shrubbery was above the roof when they arrived and now it’s clipped and tidy!.

I have always been happy with my Fiskars gardening pruners and loppers. After almost 16 years I retired my original lopper upon receiving the new lopper. Not much had changed over the years. The design is almost identical.

These cut my Chinese fan palms and other plants like butter. I have cut crepe myrtle limbs over 1 1/2 inches, its not always easy but the long handles gives you leverage. The lopper itself is not too heavy for a woman to handle, the 22″ long arms provide good leverage.

The handles have non slip textured grips. The title is misleading as the total overall length, including the blades is 28″. The only negative is that the blades are part of the tools arms so they are not replaceable.

I believe some models allow the blades to be replaced. I use my loppers just a few times a month. The old loppers were dull and had been for some time, but still worked. Hoping to get another 16 years out of this set.

I keep them sprayed with silicone or WD 40 so that they are easy to use. Fiskars offer a reliable and affordable brand of gardening products that come with a full lifetime warranty.

Only had it a week and I love it. Attached hments are easy to change and simple enough to use. Only reason why I dodnt give it 5 stars is because the attachments are covered in grease but it can be quite messy as the part where the grease is isn’t covered so you have to be careful where you store them.

I had a strimmer but I didn’t feel in control of it and gave it away, preferring to use scissors to cut my garden edges. When I saw these I hesitated because of the price but after much deliberation I brought them and how glad am I.

They are amazing. Easy to use, quick, fairly light and I will definitely get my monies worth.

I have about 5 Worx tools and am delighted with them all. I had been trying to find the above in England for over 6 months. I already had batteries. This is a solidly built small trimmer which is held in one hand but trims hedges easily.

Its great for tidying up. I also have a larger mains powered one for bigger jobs.

I love, love, love this lopper! I bought my first Corona lopper in 1996. One day I was cutting brambles and mistook a wire for a bramble and dented my blade. That was a sad day. I’ve bought several other loppers through the years and none compare to this Corona! I’ve cut mountains of branches through the years with it and it’s still going strong.

It can cut larger branches by doing a portion, rotating, and cutting again until the branch does fit into the space: seriously, up to 3 inches as I’ve done many times. I sometimes use my legs to squeeze on bigger branches- it always gets the job done.

I decided to shop for a replacement blade. I’ll probably fix that old one to let people use it and get a NEW one for only ME! I’ll never try cutting a wire again :(.

I bought my first pair of Carona Tree Loppers seventeen years age and have used them quite extensively, I owe a Landscaping Company. I finally after all this time cracked a handle, so I order a new pair of the exact same kind.

What I received looked exactly like my old ones. The blade bent on the second branch I cut! The cutting blade was made out of the cheapest metal imageable. I can’t believe it was steel. I took my old blade off my old lobbers, which was twice as thick and twice as heavy as my new ones, and I now have the quality I expected, The new ones were junk! All my hands tools are Carona and I have always recommended them as the best Now I have serious doubts,.

I own just over an acre of California foothills property over which I’ve been trimming trees and cutting brush annually for over a decade using a Stihl chainsaw, pruning saw and Corona brand loppers.

I recently broke the aluminum handle of the 20+ year old Corona loppers I’ve been using on this and my previous property. 20+ years is pretty good durability for a heavily used tool, so I thought another Corona would be the best bet.

This FL3470 unit was my chosen replacement. Not happy with them. Should have bought a version that didn’t feature the extendable handles. Here’s why. 1) The ability to extend the handles is a fine idea; pretty useful for hard to reach horizontal and overhead locations.

Even allows one to do less bending at the waist for near-ground level pruning. However. the rotation mechanism by which one loosens/tightens the handles to allow them to be extended/retracted is very easily released.

When in the course of normal use – switching from hand to hand or just simply trying to snake the tool over/under/between stems and branches, pretty nearly any manipulation of the tool in hand will frequently result in the locking mechanism releasing, allowing the handles to slide in/out; requiring the user to respond in kind by readjusting the handles and re-locking the mechanism.

It’s a hassle and an irritation that could be solved by a more positive locking mechanism. 2) The “foam” hand grips are junk. Mine tore and split in multiple places in both grips the first time I used this tool; within the first couple of routine cuts.

I wear lightweight leather work gloves. These padded grips could not withstand the slightest side-to-side/rotational tork without tearing. I’ve been forced to warp them with Gorilla tape in order to keep them in place and prevent their complete destruction.

Leather or far more heavy duty grips are required for tools of this type. Padding as found in the current grips is far less important than pure non-slip gippage. Cheers!.

I’m only giving three stars because the one screw was bent when I got it. First of all black and decker shouldn’t even put all screws in them until we put them in when we go to out the handle on it they should put them in a little plastic bag then it wouldn’t get bent like that.

It’s ashame because I can’t even out the handle on it until I get new screw for it. I already contact the black and decker company and told them about it. For the money I paid for I shouldn’t have to take out the bent screw to out new handle in so they should mail me new screws.

So I didn’t get a chance to use it yet.

The Black and Decker 22” hedge trimmer is great for a 66 year old inexperienced female. The trimmer are lightweight, easy to transport, and and easy to use. It cuts branches quickly. I like that it is electric so I don’t have to worry about gas spilling or fumes.

The trimmer does a much better job than the shears. It does, however, take some experience to trim properly. I am working on that. We have globe arborvitae and I can make the circle on the shrubs so much more easily There is a lock switch which prevents accidental starting.

I highly recommend this sturdy hedge trimmer. It is well worth the price.

The trimmer came packed in a strong box. It takes only a few minutes to assemble the shield and handle. I sprayed the blades with WD40 then went right to work on my bushes. This is a great trimmer. Very sharp and cut into heavy evergreens very well.

My last trimmer was also a Black and Decker and it lasted over 30 years. This new trimmer is easy to ues and it is well balanced. I have bad shoulders but this is light enough for me to use. Once it is running you do not need to keep pushing the lock button.

It will not fit back in the box, for storage, after the handle is installed. Too bad it does not include a blade shield. My old one does not fit as these blades are wider. Great trimmer.

I have always used petrol powered tools in the garden, and never thought I would change. We have over 5 acres to maintain so this ease of use is important. I went to use my 2 stroke hedge trimmer to tidy up the early growth and once again it would not start.

~After a while spent messing around, plug change, filter clean etc I thought I would check out the alternatives. I came across this Dewalt model and the reviews read well so was bery pleased to see here was an option to go for a naked one.

Far cheaper, as I already have 3 4. 0 AH batteries and charger with my other Dewalt kit I thought I would give it a go. Before using I opted to oil the blade. (Beware, it is unbelievably sharp, even taking car i still managed to slice my finger end through the cleaning rag.

) I have 400m of hedges to cut as well as a variety of trees and bushes. The hedges include blackthorn, gelder rose, hawthorn, dog rose, laurel, etc. So cutting is a major task often lasting several days.

I am absolutely blown away, no more having to mix petrol and 2 stroke oil, continuously having to fill up the tank. No more getting burned arms from the heat of the exhaust. It is so much lighter – so much less strain on the arms and shoulders (many hedges are 6 foot high.

) Battery lasted far longer than I did, so no issue at all with running out, I cut the hedges cut over a tarpaulin sheet to save having to rake everything up so normally have to keep putting the trimmer down to move the sheet along.

Often stopping it as it wastes petrol, But here once hands off the grip it stops, no more having to pull the starter chord to start up again, just pick up and carry straight on -what a joy!. And to top it all, saved a fortune on petrol, oil and servicing etc.

After a days cutting I did not smell of fuel/exhaust, my ears did not need time to recover from the noise and no horrible vibration. Going from a battery garden tool cynic (as I did not believe the torque would be sufficient) I am now completely sold and will possibly be looking to change over to battery powered leaf blowers, chainsaw, and strimmers.

Best of all there was an offer on to get a Dewalt combi drill free (naked) whats not to like? Highly recommended, wish I had done it years ago.

This little chainsaw is essential if you have a number of trees to clear. The Ash bore beetle has decimated our area and every house has a number of dead or dying trees on their property. My other chainsaw is a 18in Husqvarna monster which is great for felling larger trees, but after a day of swinging that around, I could barely lift my arms.

Bought this model from HD since I have a bunch of Dewalt tools/batteries already and it made a world of difference. It was so light that it felt fake compared to my other one. But what a little power house! It easily ripped through everything except the largest trunks I had.

It ran through anything under 18in easily; little slower than my Husq, but not a bad trade off considering how light and quiet it is and almost no vibration. Used the gas chainsaw to drop the tree and for the trunk, but the rest of the time it was all the Dewalt.

It’s like woods/irons in golf. you use the woods(driver) only a couple of time, but you use your irons way more! Couple of things to note – you should have extra batteries on hand and more bar/chain oil than you think.

I found that I needed to refill bar oil more frequently (even before the 4amp battery needed swapping out). Also no tools needed to adjust the chain tension! It really is a well thought out piece of equipment.

I am throughly impressed. Also looking forward to being able to use it next year without the maintenance needed for my gas one! I have since lent it out to some of the neighbors and they all could not believe how good it was.

I purchased this newer version 18 inch Dewalt chainsaw because I was unable to get the 20 inch Dewalt saw DCCS672B I have the 16 inch Dewalt chainsaw DCCS670. I also purchased the new 15 AH Dewalt Battery DCB615.

Dewalt says the new improved 18 inch saw has almost twice the power than other saws. My findings say other wise. I was cutting up a tree that came down to recent storm. It was about a 23 inch hickory still green.

The new 18 inch saw kept shutting off I’m like every 3 to 5 seconds. I had to trigger the saw to reset it. It drained the 15 AH battery in just 1 and a half cuts. So I picked up my 16 inch DCCS670 saw and thought what will you do with just a 6 AH Battery.

I was more than twice as fast as the bigger saw, it did not shut down a single time, it was also completed 7 full cuts through the same log. To be honest I wanted to see what the 16 inch saw would do with the a fully charged 15 AH Battery.

It took about an hour with the Dewalt quick charger to charge the 15 AH Battery. I then proceeded sawing with the smaller saw and the 15AH Battery. I have to say cut after cut it performed circles around the much bigger saw.

I’m going to contact Dewalt to see about getting a replacement for the 18 inch saw. There is no logical explanation as to why the smaller saw out performs the newer bigger saw. Other than it must be defective.

I also want to mention I purchase both saws at the same time from two different company’s. So both saws were my first experience using a battery powered chainsaw. I’m not a heave logger. I just use them around the farm and cut my winter supply of firewood.

If the 16 inch DCCS670 holds up I will never own another gas powered chainsaw. I also want to mention I have been a home builder and remodeler for 30 years. I have almost every 20 volt tool Dewalt makes some are 18 volt with 20 volt battery adapters but they still work great and full my purpose.

I have purchased the newer version of the 18 volt tools in the 20 volt version but why start on them when the 18 volts still perform like they did when they were new. The DCCS672B saw as of now if a new saw does not perform any better I would recommend passing on the bigger saw.

Bought this a week ago after deliberating for a few months, mainly because I was sceptical that it would be below expectations as I have had a Little Wonder electric hedgetrimmer for 25 years thought I may need to next model up.

The obvious benefits are lighter, quieter and no electric cords (have severed the extension lead at least 3 times – thank you trip meter). It is easy to use and quick, leaves a better, cleaner cut, cuts on both sides and can be used horizontally or vertically.

I am probably more shocked than surprised at how good it is – wish I had bought it years ago!.

As usual it’s hard to give a helpful review only 2 weeks and a single use after purchase. Our last corded Makita suffered a snapped blade after 3 years and this was bought as a replacement. I’m wary of battery powered stuff (cost, enviroment, power etc) and most of my power tools are still corded or petrol but it seemed justified for a hedge trimmer due to the real risk of cutting the cord.

First cut with freshly charged new battery great. Good deal from Screwfix, easy collection.

Bought this product and expected to require purchase of a 6Ah battery, however using the 1. 5Ah battery from my drill, I was able to trim about a dozen very out of control trees/shrubs (large pittosporums).

I estimate the motor was running for about 30 mins on a single charge. It’s not as powerful as a corded trimmer, but still a very capable machine and able to cut branches about 15mm diameter with a couple of attempts.

Definitely recommend if you dont want the hassle of a cord.

Easy to handle, easy to use, makes great addition to ‘armoury’ of garden tools.

These are excellent shears. They’re bright green not black as advertised but it means I can find them easily!
