20 Best Tool For Edging Lawn (2023 Updated)

This is the best edger I have used so far. The blade and the teeth are very sharp. It still helps if the ground has been watered a bit. The price for the performance is very good. Highly recommend

The tool is not quite as easy as others have reviewed but I didnt want another electric tool to edge my garden beds. You have to use it after a rain and can only edge thin slices of lawn so you cant let it go too long between edgings.

However I will keep it because I only have about 20 feet to edge.

So hard to find locally but Walmart’s delivery service came to the rescue! I love this edger! It does a great job in cutting borders nicely and digging the borders edge to separate from the yard. It actually works better then an electric edger.

So glad i got mine!.

I only have one negative thing to say about this order. Picture & advert on this product shows a saw tooth blade & what I got was a smooth blade. Don’t want to go through the hassle of swapping the item out so I am just gonna keep it.

Otherwise product is good & is made of heavy duty steel. I had one before this one & the blade wasn’t nearly as heavy duty & the weld broke on it after 2 years of using. I think this one will last a lot longer.

Don’t try using it without really soaking the area first. We didn’t read the part about soaking the yard before trying to use it. Needless to say we bent the blade trying to push it through the edge of the grass.

Once we had the area soaked good it went through with ease. It seems to take longer to edge the yard with it and the fact that it bent first time out is enough for me to go back to the old fashion push roller edger.

Don’t bother! I bought this to edge about 100 feet of sod in my yard. The image of the product makes it look like this tool would be effective but it isn’t. It’s difficult to get your whole foot on the tool to cut the sod.

The “blade” part of the tool isn’t long enough to cut enough sod. I resorted to using out my old shovel with a longer blade and easier foot access.

The Weasel is simply the best edger I’ve ever used, trust me Ive used many. What makes this unique is the design to exert complete foot pressure onto the device to cut into thick, dry turf. Typical edgers and shovels do not allow full foot pressure, the Weasel does!.

This is made very well, but it is far from 9.5 in long. I purchased based on the product description to help bury pipe 8 in. This is great for edging but description needs an update

I looked at a few different offerings from some competitors. This is sturdy and well made. I am 6’3″ and had read some reviews about problems with other manual edgers for people over a certain height.

I had no problems whatsoever. I have had this for a few months and have used it on multiple properties. Easy to clean and durable. I recommend it.

Well-designed and well-made tool. I bought this item new to replace a nearly identical model by the same manufacturer that finally broke at the handle (sturdy plastic) after decades of very heavy use.

I plan to soon fabricate a new handle for the old model, which should then allow many more years of use on that one. It is old, but much too good to discard, especially since I can easily give it new life.

The positive reviews i had read prior to purchase did a good job of describing the unit. Good straight edging, easy trenching in even hard clay, and comfortable after adjusting to my liking. However, within 30 seconds of using the tool for the first time, the blade stopped spinning because the nut was loose.

I tightened it and about two minutes later the condition occurred again. THis time I really cranked down on the nut, and I have used the tool for at least 30 minutes without a problem. Based on the reviews, the lack of blade engagement is a common situation.

The Worx 7. 5” electric edger replaced a 20-year-old different brand. Maybe my expectations are too high, but I am disappointed with the performance of this edger compared to the one it replaced. Although it does an adequate job of edging along the sidewalk, it is underpowered.

The edging line is not as clean as I would like but is acceptable. My main problem with the edger is the design of the blade guard. In many places, the guard comes in contact with the turf, causing the right rear wheel to float off the sidewalk.

This makes it difficult to keep the edger flush against the sidewalk in order to maintain a straight line. The floating rear wheel also results in a shallower depth because the blade is forced above the turf by the blade guard’s contact with the turf.

Overall, this edger is average – average price, average performance.

I bought this trimmer initially because of its versatility. I am a retiree who is short and I have RA. The wheels on the trimmer allow me to use it easily and not have to hold it in my hands while working.

The battery life is great and I can adjust the length of the shaft so I am not straining to get the job done. I have a long driveway and I am able to trim the grass on both sides without running out of power.

I had an older version of the trimmer and I’m so glad I upgraded to this one.

Got tired of my gas trimmer and was looking for a way to get a clean edge and my sidewalks. This has worked perfectly. The blades cut through overgrown grass and create a clear edge. Some require a little elbow grease the first time, but it’s easy and fast after that.

I have not found another product at this price. But the quality is excellent. I highly recommend this product.

How about some Art work ladiese? Everthing is made so easy for us these days. Edging can be fun, especially for us single ladies for sure. Make a beautiful edge! Show our work off! Let our or “men” use an electric to cut an edge.

LOL! Be proud of your “own” work ladies! Plus, it gives us some exercise too. This project is called edge cutting. Exactly! Be creative by doing your own work without electricity or gas. An extra benefit is saving a tiny bit of electricity, not needing to go back to the gas pump, no smelly fumes up the nose too.

Well, time to go out to edge trim my lawn. If you want to read what I think about my new push reel pull lawn mower, I will be posting @ Walmart sometime soon for your review. It’s cutting edge make a difference not only to grass but environment for sure as well.

Very good product. I try to use this product weekly to keep a trench on the edge, which helps to prevent the buildup of grass in the trench. I find that I spend less time edging with this tool, than a corded edger that I have.

With the corded edger, I still had to go back and forth with the electric edger and moved much slower than I do with this manual edger. The back and forth movement is still recommended, but I do move much faster with this product.

Plus I am getting a little exercise. I think keeping a trench on the edge is key to the success.

I would wanted to give this product a higher rating, but without a edge guide, it will be only a 3 star. I am not sure why Greenworks not putting this simple feature in its edger, which other competitors have it.

I needed to struggle to make sure the blade didn’t hit the concrete sidewalk. If I knew it before purchasing the Greenworks, I would have bought another brand.

This item is cheaply made. It had parts missing. I was was able to find the bolt at Lowes. I used it for the first time today and the motor started smoking. I followed the instructions exactly. Don’t spend money on this product you will be ver disappointed.

My first edger. This one works very well. It’s very powerful and took some getting used to using an edger over a weed eater. The yard looks professional nonetheless because of this edger. The price can’t be beat too!.

I was so excited to purchase my new Craftsman 12 amp corded edger to replace a 30 year old Craftsman product that just had simply worn out. I was extremely disappointed to find that the blades turn backwards – that is counter-clockwise, making it impossible to use as an edger.

I took the product back to my original place of purchase (Lowe’s) and they were as perplexed as I – they even called Craftsman while I was there and were told that it was IMPOSSIBLE – that this must be a defect, so they took back the edger and gave me a totally new one.

You guessed it! I just finished assembling it this morning and the blades RUN BACKWARDS. Also – the pullup edge guide was broken, so I have to take this new item back for a refund. I am totally frustrated at this point.

Normally my husband does all of the yard work/mowings. I have started to try to help him out as much as I can. We thought that this would be useful for around the sidewalk and the concrete areas in our yard.

As far as edging the grass. I’m not too sure we will be using the trenching part as of now. We have no need for it. This was pretty simple to put together. We just had to put the wire in the handle and attach the bars for the handle tubes.

Ours was mostly assembled other than the handle tubes. The cord on this is super sort so you can hook your extension cord onto the little hook clip under the handle. If you have somewhere to edge pretty far from your power you will need a long cord.

We don’t have that problem so far as what I am using this for is mostly right out from our home. The blade is great so far, I have hit a few rocks and things I didn’t see and it just kept on going. There is an edge guide on the guard so you know where you are cutting.

I prefer electric to other types of yard equipment because I can just press the button and go. Super simple. This weighs next to nothing and I can now help without trying to start the thing or not being able to hold/carry the thing.

This does what I need and it is really easy for me to use. It will be a big help when summer hits and we are doing yardwork what seems every other day.

I am so happy with this product! I was finally able to use is and let me tell you it exceeded all of my expectations. I’ve always struggled with the grass growing up over my driveway and could never seem to maintain it.

This edger has totally changed everything! The wheels make it easy to use as it just glides along while cutting the grass. I also really like that it has the different lengths. After using it, it looks like I got my lawn professionally done! I highly recommend this to anyone that is looking to edge up their lawn! It works great!.

I just put in flower beds along my sidewalk, and redid the landscaping in a large corner of my house. This was just the tool!! It works perfectly along the sidewalk, and even worked on the curved edge I did in the corner.

It was easy to control the depth, and made installing a metal border a piece of cake!!.

I used the root slayer to edge around a honey locust tree. It cut through small roots with ease and made a nice deep cut. I already own another root slayer product, which I ike very much. Only problem for me was the root slayer was heavy for me.

This is the best edger I have ever used. Hands down easier than the half moon. Sharp and tough. Wish I made the jump and got it years ago!

Great alternative to any other powered tools. Need to put some effort to get the job done, but like others have mentioned after the first time, following edging jobs are just walk behind the edger. Frees up storage space as it is a long handle tool.

As far as the quality of the product, Ames is a company which stands behind their product for any issues. Quality control at the time of assembly should be much better as the sharpening blade which is placed against star wheel was way too tight and the wheels moved only in one direction.

Had to get a flat tool and lift up the sharpening blade to allow the wheels to move freely. This tool does not have adjustable height from what I can see.

Because I like using hand tools over electric tools. However, I have Charleston grass. This tool was practically impossible to cut through the thick blades of grass and it wrapped around the wheel. Unfortunately, it doesnt work for my type of grass.

Im back to using a big pair of yard scissors.

Such a super waste of money, I guess I just don’t know how to work this but I should have at least just got the one that’s a straight edge. I tried to do this on wet and dry ground and its like what in the world was this made for.

now I have to go buy a cheap electric string trimmer. this was a waste of money.

Such a useful piece of lawn keeping equipment although relatively expensive. The Wolf garden tool range is amazing and this is my latest piece. Wolf is very reliable, well designed and space saving!

I bought this as it looked well made, however, on trying to use it, and looking closely, the blade(??) has just been cut out of 2mm steel and not sharpened. I will go back to using an old bread knife to tidy up my kerb/lawn edges.

I have bought many Wolf-Garten gardening tools and the quality is superb. This item replaces my previous lawn edger an d is much easier to use, requires very little strength to operate and leaves a good clean cut edge.

I have even used it to trim around garden barrel features, and trees with great results. I wish I had bought this item years ago. I would thoroughly recommend this item.

the wood handle is only 7 1/2 inches long. Not much of a grip and not much of an extension of your gardener’s reach. Martha Stuart’s tools are usually superior, but not this tool. It was inexpensive but it is what I got a cheap tool.

Walmart uses FedEx to deliver their items. The boxes are often damaged, delivered to the wrong house, and these garden tools were “attempted to deliver but no responsible adult to receive the package”.

We were home. (looking irresponsible). no one came to our home and our package got to travel around for a while.

this lil’garden tool is wonderful. im in total ahhh of it. shipping took alittle longer than it shoulda. thankfully i got my nifty new garden tool jus in time. of course its made by martha stewart & available on zulily.

seems to be well made. i got it for very good price.

i usually use an old steak knife to dig weeds out of the driveway, pavers and sidewalk. Sunce receiving this tool, I’m retiring my old steak knife. This tool goes as deep as you want it to. The 90 degree angle makes it easier to extract /scrape out the weeds.

The task is easier on the wrist. This tool is very well made. Great addition to my arsenal of garden tools.

It gets the job done but I wouldn’t recommend it over similarly priced equipment. I just finished edging a sidewalk for the last two hours. The stuff I was cutting through was approximately 4 inches of small ice plant.

There are three things that were sorely lacking: 1) a detachable guard; 2) a swing joint on the handle to pivot 180 degrees horizontally relative to the blade and 3) something like a plow or dozer to clear all the dirt and vegetation that was accumulating in front of and below the machine.

That said, it had plenty of power and didn’t get stuck. The blade held up despite throwing sparks from frequent contact with rocks and concrete. The spin direction punted the debris away from me, which I appreciated.

It’s not bad, but with a few tweaks it could be great.

LE750 (the LE760 is the exact same except it comes with a spare blade, and some other loose spare part) I purchased this edger because it has an edge guide. I could find no other edger that explicitly stated it had an edge guide.

The down-side to the edge guide is that it puts the blade a little further away from the concrete walk, so I get a 3/8 inch wide groove along the sidewalk. My star-wheeled manual edger would cut the grass that laid on the sidewalk, but was too slow and dull to cut grass 2 inches up, overhanging the side walk.

That, and it was a lot of work for an old guy. I was surprised that to get the edge guide to go down far enough to engage the sidewalk, I had to set the edger for max depth: 1. 25 inches, and set the edge guide as low as it could go.

The edge guide pulls up out of the way for trenching. This edger was great. Easy to hold a straight line first time in use, and I edged 130 ft of sidewalk in just a few minutes. I did already have a groove in place, so not sure how well it would work if sod had overlaid the walk -like when I first made the groove two years ago using a flat blade shovel.

Not as loud as I expected. At over 8,000 rpm it is not quite, but its not as loud as lawnmower or leaf blower. It would be good if all powered tools included decibel rating on the box. When it comes to edgers, most have none of the info I was looking for on the box.

I searched a lot online and in stores to find any edger (battery powered, AC, or gas) that had an edge guide. I even looked at edgers with Honda engines priced at over $850. Not sure why this industry doesnt get that leaving out that feature, or not stating that they have that feature, is costing them sales.

I would add photos, but this review site lacks the common feature of down-sampling images and my iPhone also lacks that basic ability.

So I bought the little Black& Decker edger trencher at Menards in Athens Ohio. Was like $88. I used it 16 minutes and it was grinding the concrete and I ended up having to move it over to where the wheel was on the grass alignment seemed off a bit.

then all the sudden it made a loud chunk sound and I looked up underneath and the little piece to raise and lower the guard came out of place and was completely tearing up the plastic and I can’t get the piece off at all to get a new one or get it fixed.

I am really mad because I’m a single and my money is very important to me. This was a luxury purchase. I could have done a whole lot more with that $88. Store will not take it back and I can’t get Black& Decker to answer their phone.

Total sadness. 16 minutes really black and decker? Really.

I am writing this review because I do not want others to base their decisions on the five year warranty that comes with an Echo product or waste their time and hard earned money as I have recently experienced.

On July 14th, 2013 I became a proud owner of an Echo PE-225 edger. I thought that I was getting a commercial grade product with an industry leading five year consumer warranty. Over the past few years, I performed the regular prescribed maintenance and only used ethanol-free gas and Echo two stroke oil.

Approximately three months ago, I went into my garage and noticed a large puddle of fuel underneath my Echo PE-225 edger. I cleaned up the fuel mess in my garage and realized the entire fuel tank from my edger had drained onto the floor.

I thought to myself, maybe there is a crack in the hose and it needs to be replaced. I went to my local Home Depot and bought the Echo branded You Can fuel system kit for $16. 34. The kit included the fuel filter, fuel lines, grommet, gasket, fuel tank vent and purge bulb.

I installed all of the components except the purge bulb because my existing purge bulb was still in great shape. I filled the tank with fuel, operated the edger for about 15 minutes around my house and then left it in the driveway.

I proceeded to mow the yard and when Icame back there was a massive puddle of fuel sitting underneath my edger and the tank was nearly empty. It seems that every time I left fuel in my edger, the fuel would syphon right out of the tank onto the floor.

After not having any luck with the Echo fuel repair kit from Home Depot, I decided that I needed to have a professional take a look at it. I checked my records and noticed that my edger was still under warranty.

AWESOME! I called Echo to see what was required for me to get warranty work done and they said that I needed to take it in to my local authorized Echo repair center. Fortunately there was a shop five minutes from my house.

I took the edger into the shop and they said they would take a look at it and get back with me when it was ready for pickup. A week later they called me back and told me that it wasnt covered under warranty because it was a fuel related component.

They said if I wanted to get it repaired out of pocket that it would be $75. WHAT???? The authorized repair center told me that Echo usually doesnt cover stuff that has to do with fuel because they dont know what kind of fuel I used in it.

Since it was still under warranty, I did not want to pay to have it repaired. In addition, when I got to the shop, they told me that I still needed to pay $27. 50 for the diagnostics since Echo wasnt covering the bill.

I was so frustrated because I had already spent over $43 and still didnt have an edger that didnt leak all over my garage. I called Echos corporate line and they said that they have no control over warranty decisions.

They told me that the distributor makes the decision to repair the unit. I asked if I could get the phone number for the distributor and they said that they do not share that information. Echo advised me to go to a different repair center to see if I could have any better luck somewhere else.

I THINK NOT! I am not going to throw any more money at this edger on diagnostic fees because of declined warranties. As a last ditch effort, I took my edger to Home Depot and asked to speak with a manager.

I explained my situation to the store manager and they told me that they would take care of it for me. They told me to take my edger to the tool rental center and they would send it off to get repaired.

I brought it to the tool rental center and they said I had to pay a $27 deposit in case Echo doesnt cover the warranty. I asked the tool rental clerk to be honest with me as I have gone down this path before and asked if it is common for Echo to decline warranty work.

The sales clerk told me, unfortunately I see this a lot. I said that it seems that Echo does not stand behind their product and the tool rental clerk agreed. The clerk even told me that they had gone through the same issue of getting warranty work declined.

I have a STIHL string strimmer that I purchased two years prior to my Echo, used the same fuel and it is still running strong and it doesnt leak all over my garage creating a potential fire hazards. To summarize, the Echo 5 Year Warranty is only good if you dont put fuel in it, otherwise the warranty is useless.

DO NOT BASE YOUR DECISION ON THE FIVE YEAR WARRANTY!.

I like this. Good price. Started right up and runs good. The only trouble I have is that I have a little trouble with my balance and keeping it in line to cut the edges takes a little concentration, but it’s still easier to get out, start and use than then three-wheeler 4 stroke edger machine I’ve had for 40 years.

ONCE I got my new Echo PE-225 started, it ran very well! It just took me about 20 minutes to finally get it running. !Other than that, it did the job edging my concrete walks. It does a much better job IF the ground is a bit damp.

It is heavier than I expected but seems to be durable. Good tool.

Seems pretty well built. I like the serrated blade, which made cutting into the grass roots much easier. My only advice is to wet the area where you’re planning to edge. The soft ground is much much easier to cut into.

It does exactly what it is supposed to do. I was very leary of it, but was pleasantly surprised. It is very good to create a trench around flower beds, etc. But you must remember it isn’t designed to go through heavy grass very easily.

There was an issue with the way the handle was secured by a pin which after a short use broke and fell out I replaced it with a more suitable screw and nut which is much more stable. I would recommend you review this method of securing the handle as the current method of peening together with an aluminium pin at the greatest stress point seems to be the weakest link.

People make me laugh with there reviews saying this tool is blunt, most people have a flat file or access to one, it’s very easy to put an edge on this tool, just use some common sense. It’s a simple job.

Hi bought garden edger. Excellent quality edger and was posted out very fast. Really good value as well. Super pleased with it.

Mostly well made. the blade was sharp enough the length was quite comfortable for me though I am 6 feet tall. The one flaw that I found was that the handle was plastic which is not a good idea as plastics cannot be repaired but also because it was riveted in position and this had been done with such force as to break the plastic handle.

Well made, reasonably priced. Only drawback is handle is a little small to allow control.

Absolute rubbish, bends every time you use it.. have to bend it back again to use each time..wont be long and it will just snap.definatly not hardened as advertised.

WELL BALANCED EDGER. RELATIVELY LIGHT WEIGHT AND EASY ASSEMBLY. SEEMS TO HAVE PLENTY OF POWER TO EDGE EVEN IN OUR HARD CLAY SOILS. ENOUGH POWER TO EDGE MY DRIVEWAY, CITY WALKS, FRONT ENTRANCE WALK AND AROUND MY LANDSCAPE EDGEING BOTH FRONT AND REAR OF HOUSE.

NOISE LEVEL IS MUCH LOWER THAN MY PREVIOUS GAS POWER EDGER. ONLY DRAWBACK IS THE HEX WRENCH INCLUDED WITH THE EDGER FOR ASSEMBLY. T-HANDLE WRENCH WORKS MUCH BETTER AND EASIER ON THE HAND.

I’d give the edger a four star rating, but my repeated rebate applications for subsequent purchases have been rejected. So far I have purchased five different 60V lawn tools from Toro (thrower, blower, trimmer, hedger and edger) and I have only received one rebate of $20.

Disappointing. In terms of performance, the edger handles straight lines just fine but makes a mess with rounded edges.

Does the job well, plenty of power for my compacted clay soil. My only feedback to toro is to simplify the broader range of 60v tools as it’s confusing to identify the difference between them and start offering bare tools for everything.

Without bare versions we can’t leverage the ecosystem!.
