20 Best Tool For Cutting Steel (2023 Updated)

I shopped several sources before buying this shear from Wally-World. The price was great but I was more impressed w/ the quality of this tool. Works perfectly and strong! Plus, it arrived quickly. What’s not to like? 5 stars.

It does the job very well, easy to operate, powerful enough. The only thing to consider is – works good for big long straight cuts, not very useful for a tiny shirt or curved cuts

This is great. It cuts effortlessly. A great buy.

Good points: – Blade cuts mild steel hollow section like butter – no issues there. – Came with 2 “free” blades (so three in total including the one fitted to the machine) which means they were actually about £50 each when the package price is compared to other online sellers.

Bad points: – Very noisy motor. Wear ear protection and ask your neighbours to wear also. – Throws out a LOT of chips all over the place, very few actually go into the collection tray. Have a magnet handy to get chips out your hair and ceiling and floor.

– The Vice is TERRIBLE. The flimsy cast aluminium moveable back flexes when the vice is tightened. Worst is that the front clamping jaw lifts UP when tightened which means the work is lifted off the flat base of the machine – making it difficult to make repeatable cuts.

– The Vice angle is settable at 45deg however the slop in the pins means it moves between 44deg and 46deg so take a gamble or use a angle gauge to calibrate if you want it accurate. – Brushed motor – Made in PRC.

Nuff said.

We make Damascus knives and other custom metal fabrication projects. There is no comparison between the Evolution saw and the abrasive cut off saws we’ve been using. Stock prep is much faster, and cleaner (no clouds of abrasive particles everywhere).

There is less deburring needed after cutting. The base is a nice solid casting instead of a stamped sheet metal pan. Knobs and lever handles are cast metal instead of plastic. Most importantly the cutting performance blows abrasive saws out of the water.

This saw is doing the trick on a big aluminum cutting job. I like the overheat kickout on the handle avoids burning out the motor. Combined with the Milwaukee aluminum blade this has exceeded our need.

The only issue I had with it was as stated in other reviews the spot welds on the deck connector broke but I rewelded them and was back going at it in 5 minutes with no other issues.

As is the case with Milwaukee tools, this is a GREAT Saw for the money. Most of the serious metalworkers around my area have this Milwaukee and it has a very beefy feel and durability. I am a professional metalworker so I am sure that this will hold up to many many years of use.

Even the blade that comes with it is of very good quality. I also purchased a Freud Diablo 42 tooth cermet carbide blade because they seem to last longer than this one. It also cuts wood without much splintering at all.

The edges were smooth as glass and it was just as good as a standard wood-cutting circular saw. It even powered through wood with nails, rebar, and lag bolts without an issue. I made the mistake of buying the Dual Saw 6-inch twin-blade circular saw because of the counter-rotating blade technology and its (supposed) ability to cut both wood and metal and wow what an under powered piece of junk.

It doesn’t even cut half inch plywood without burning it (even with sharp blades). Go for a proper metal saw and get the job done right!.

It’s a great saw for structural metal studs. It’s almost like cutting wood studs with a regular saw. The jobsite I work on requires a fire watch when ever you use any tool that creates sparks, however this saw does a good enough job of capturing the steel filings that they don’t require me to waste a man’s time just standing there watching sparks fly like you would with a chop saw.

It’s nice that you don’t have to feed the material to the saw like a chop saw, you can just put you studs on a set of horses and use it like a regular power saw. I would definitely recommend ear protection, because cutting heavy 16 gauge studs is extremely loud.

Eye protection is a given, the saw even comes with goggles. The only CON I have is that when you are purchasing the saw they don’t go into any detail about what you can cut and what blade you need for your particular application.

It was just a fluke that I purchased an extra 48 tooth blade, and that is exactly the blade I needed for cutting 16 gauge metal studs. They don’t even tell you if the saw comes with a blade, let alone how many teeth it has.

The saw comes with a 36 tooth blade, but it is not suited for 16 gauge stud material. the advertising should show you a blade chart like the one that came with my extra blade.

This is a quality tool that is still made in Japan. Base is made from stainless steel. I used this to cut multiple sheets of 14 ga CRS steel stack 1. 5” high. The cut is clean with minimal sparking. The blade ( made in PRC) that came with the tool did not last that long, and was replace with 7-1/4 Diablo 2 48 T metal cutting blade.

I’ve used this to cut 1/4 and 3/8″ plate and it works great. Doesn’t leave any dross like plasma or a torch so there is no cleanup after cutting. Leaves a nice clean cut, its comfortable feeling and well made.

I purchased the sheers drill attachment after seeing a video about the “new” dewalt sheer attachment. I read the reviews about the dewalt and several made comments about durability. “When the dewalt doesn’t hold up, buy Malco”.

So I checked out the reviews on them. I got to use them today for the first time. They are awesome. They ripped through the metal I was cutting like butter (not sure the gage but to put a crease in it, I need a hammer.

I can’t just fold it and smash it down). My advice would be to look for the upgraded model though. It comes with the drill clamp that makes it one handed. Without the drill clamp you have to hold the handle on the sheers also.

You can however buy a after market drill clamp that works, which is what I did. I would buy this product again since I already have a drill clamp.

Not really sure why there are bad reviews on this thing yes it has limitations. I use this about 3 times a week I work in HVAC it’s a must. I’ve noticed that if you run the drill in reverse. It works better on thicker metal.

Why don’t know. Just dose. Ignore the negative reviews they just are using the tool wrong find it’s sweet spot and go.

After reading some bad reviews, I almost didn’t buy this cutter. I can tell EVERYONE that it worked much better than I expected. I even had my 15 year old grandson work it. After a few minutes to figure it out, it works great.

I have used several different chop saws, most using friction blades to cut ferrous metals. I needed a saw for home use, and tried to get off cheap by using one from Harbor Freight. That turned out to be a mistake, and caused me to rethink my use of the saw.

I wanted one that could cut aluminum, brass, as well as steel. The friction blades are only usable on steel. I have always had good service from DeWalt tools, and I decided to give this saw a try. I have been very pleased with this saw.

And I have noted that there are some significant quality differences between this saw and others. First, the table is very stiff. It is made from two layers of steel stampings that are nested together and (i think) welded into a single base.

It is incredibly rigid and does not flex even when cutting large and long materials. I noticed that there is a cover over the blade under the table as well, so the blade is not exposed even under the table.

Nice safety touch. Second, the blade guard retracts easily and smoothly as you lower the saw. The lesser quality saws felt clunky in this aspect, but this saw is smooth and effortless. The blade guard is easy to retract when the saw is wide open to change the blade.

One nice little feature that I haven’t seen on any other saw is a small flap, or cover, over the bolt that you have to push open to get the wrench on the Allen screw. This appears to be spring loaded and would likely push the wrench out of the Allen screw in the event you forgot to remove it.

Not sure if that’s what it’s for, but it seems likely. Also, I noticed that when locked closed, the blade guard is also locked and there is no way to accidentally get to the blade. Third, the motor is smooth and powerful.

The saw starts and runs easily, and doesnt sound like an old thrashing machine. The motor is more than powerful enough to easily cut through large steel angles, tubes, channels, and flats. Fourth, the motor attaches to the base using a very strong and beefy aluminum casting that houses the spring and pivot, as well as a pin to lock the saw in the closed position.

This aluminum housing is attached to the base using two large Allen cap screws and two 1/4″ dowel pins to ensure alignment. The only downside I can see is the fence system is a little strange. It locks easily, and is easy to re-position for different depths or angles of cuts.

However, the alignment of the fence to the blade pretty much requires the use of a square any time you loosen the clamp if you need to hold precise angles. There is an adjustable protractor gauge that you can adjust for square.

The downside is that it has an etched line that you need to eyeball even with the side if the slot in the base. A more repeatable and precise angle adjustment would have been nice. I’m not too worried about it, because for structural parts the angles are close enough.

For materials I’m going to turn in the lathe or mill, I would cut them oversize and machine down to a much higher precision anyway.

I’ve been looking at metal cutoff/chop saws for a long time. I’ve looked at the friction cutoff and carbide blades. I tried several saws, much cheaper and also much less quality. This is by far the best saw I’ve tried, and I love it.

I decided to go with the carbide blade because I wanted to cut aluminum, brass, and steel. The motor is very strong, the blade cuts like a hot knife through butter, and the base is very stiff. The vise is good, better than any others.

The motor is attached to a very strong aluminum casting that contains the spring and pivot. There is a sliding pin that locks the motor down in a closed position for carrying or storage. The aluminum casting is attached to the base with two large cap screws, and aligned using two hardened steel dowel pins.

This means that the saw is accurately aligned to the table and wont shift over time, even if the cap screws loosen up a little bit. There is also a guard over the blade under the table so there is no accidental contact with the blade.

When closed, the cover locks closed as well and you cant open it to access the blade. You have to open the saw up all the way to access the blade. Lots of nice little safety items added to this saw. I would recommend this saw over any others that I have tried.

I’ve used it for cutting steel for several cabinet and shop fixtures, and aluminum bar and tube stock for several machining projects. It has been a dream to use, and I expect it to last me a long, long time.

This saw replaces an abrasive saw that I have used for a long time. The Dewalt cuts steel like butter. The cuts are very accurate once you get the fence where you want it. But therein is the reason that I only gave it three stars.

The fence adjustment is difficult and slow. It binds while adjusting requiring a lot of time back and forth with the Allen wrench and the locking lever. I make a lot of angled cuts, so the fence problem is a real pain.

I will take the fence mechanism apart shortly and lubricate it to see if that helps. I will edit this review to let you know if that solved the binding problem. EDIT: I have discovered what causes the binding.

There is a pin on the fence mechanism described as spring-loaded pin, (Item E, Fig. 11 of the users manual. ) If this pin is engaged in hole F, Fig. 11 then the fence binds when attempting to adjust the fence angle.

I disengaged this pin and then the fence angle was adjustable with no binding problem. The fence remained solidly fixed in position without the pin. Because the pin is described as further securing the fence position you should use your own discretion about disabling it.

Absolutely great product. Have made well over 100 cuts now and no problems at all. Cuts are square and very minimal filling if any.

Dont reduce your 2 year warranty down to a 30 day guarantee, shop at a reputable store with easy returns if you need it. The saw is coming from a country that uses a very different power supply. It will burn out after I use the 240 volts in Australia will kill it.

Lease this item for the Americans.

This saw just made my day. It cuts through steel like butter without the flying sparks and dust. Very quick and clean, square cuts that are cool to the touch after the cut. I used a small square against the blade to set zero.

I just wish it came with a stiffer chord to protect from tin cuts. But if your careful it works great. Was able to cut some old 18g corrugated steel. I am pleased with its operability.

The product worked great when I was residing a lean-to shed with steel siding panels. It cut thru the steel easily, but I did have a problem with bends in the steel siding. Cutting on an up bend was okay – but not so on the down.

Maybe if I used it a lot more, I’d master how to cut on the down. Basically, I would just flip the steel sheet over and it solved the problem. It certainly saved me a lot of time and it was easier on the hands instead of using tinsnips.

I use this tool to rip galvanized decking. It worked great till one of the blade screws broke. It is a little temper mental with the angle. Also it only works on flat surfaces. Do not try to cross cut corrigated materials or it will break those bolts.

This saw is amazing. It definitely cuts like hot knife through butter. Beautiful kerf. Haven’t used miter yet, but i have no doubts. The vise is super solid and well made, holds metal secure. Very highly compares to dewalt, Although i found this is build more solid even.

Only thing is the shaving toss, its def is messy. For the value thats super minor. Would def recommend this saw to any basic fabricator or hobbyist.

Saw works well, saving de burr and fit up labor. I feel the saw will easily pay for itself. Wish I had bought sooner. Only quality issue is with the removable V block that hooks on vice jaw. The V is not welded parallel with shoe causing cuts to be out of square.

This was rectified by milling off a little of bottom edge of shoe to make it parallel with V. This could also be accomplished with a little careful grinding. All in all I would buy again, no question.

got it to cut 1020 and 1026 steel in the production of bicycles for fast precise cuts and was blown away with how well it works. It effortlessly cuts the steel. No dust and jagged edges. Nice high torque motor and all-round well built.

Used a 25% off coupon so I got this at an unheard of price. It is a solid tool, cut fantastically thru 18 gauge sheet metal, but has a couple of issues worth noting: (Project. — auto body sheet metal fabrication) (1) Oil fill port on top is difficult if not impossible to use – there is a spring loaded check valve in the port that makes filling the tool with machine oil very difficult.

(2) The tool causes a slight cupping (small length wise “hump”) in material being cut -sheet metal is easily reshaped with a auto body hammer afterwards but it’s a nuisance. Otherwise, a very good tool and 1/10th the price of my Mikita JS1602 16g sheers.

Have had this tool for a couple of years now. It has worked wonders in commercial construction settings. Aside from metal cutting, this tool is fantastic for cutting straight, mess free lines for FRP installation in bathrooms, kitchen environments.

No more flying fiberglass and jagged cuts like other tools have done in the past.

Bought to cut metal roofing. Worked well on flat portions. Able to cut straight lines and curves easily. Good visibility of cutting blades to follow lines. However, unable to make transition where metal makes acute angles (on ridges).

Here, would have to use manual shears to make those cuts. No concern with power.

Nice tool, used to cut 1/4″ steel plate. Shavings come off nice and clean, still throws them around so you’ll have some cleanup to do. New blades cut nearly sparkless, but will start throwing sparks when they get dull.

I cut about 90′ of 1/4″ plate before the first blade went. New blade $50 on amazon and back in business. Cuts like a dream. There is a trade-off for visibility. You can’t see what/where you are cutting, but at least it’s safe.

Make sure you use a straightedge/jig when cutting or you’ll never get a nice cut. You can’t simply freehand this thing. Make sure you have an extra blade, but overall this is a great product. Have not found another blade that works as well as the stock Milwaukee at this point.

Over all its one of the better saws out there, I love mine. My only complaint is the shoe, the stainless material it’s made out of is better than most but the mounting is poor. When cutting tubing you have to be vary careful how you hold the saw because the shoe won’t hold the blade at 90*.

I was cutting 8x2x1/4″wall rectangular tube and it would be up to 1/8″ square. Once I realized what was going on I compensated for it. It never did cut perfectly square in tubing but in solid flat stock its close enough.

As far as power it’s vary good and the rest of the saw seems to be high quality.

This saw has been in my metalworking arsenal for over 10 years. It’s been used in a light duty fabrication shop. I can’t count how many cuts it’s made over the years. It makes perfectly square cuts which are burr free and require no cleanup at all before fit up.

Try that with an abrasive saw. Another benefit is how long the blade lasts. We’ve only changed the blade once and it has made many thousands of cuts. Many guys will complain about the cost of blades but if you compare the cost of how many abrasive blades you would have gone through to make the same number of cuts these dry cut saws are actually cheaper per cut.

not to mention all the benefits of the cut quality. A couple highlights which I really like are the built in chip collector which works well. Also the miter fence is much better than any other saw like this on the market.

A quick pull out handle releases the clamping fence which allows you to make angled miter cuts with ease. I use this feature all the time. most saws require a wrench to accomplish this same thing and is a complete pain.

The hold down clamp works great and has never had any issues with clamping force. The base is very sturdy, much better than the “yellow” saw equivalent which is very flexy. Many will complain about the 12″ blade versus a 14″ blade but I’ve never had any issues with capacity.

Compared to a 14″ abrasive saw this has the same or better capacity. At the end of the day I could not live without this tool in my metal shop. Between this and my Ellis 1600 band saw I feel like I have all cutting bases covered for my needs.

Works brilliantly. Quieter than a standard abrasive saw, cuts quicker and cleaner too. Bit of advice, chuck a bit of square tube in the jaws, sticking past the cutting area and weld another bit of square to it that sits against the right hand side of the unit, this makes a quick and easy angle jig for quickly moving between common angles.

This saw worked right out of the box and I put it to work right away. I have used a abrasive cutoff saw previously but needed something more precise. Used this saw for hundreds of cuts on 2×2, 4×2, 5×2, 1/4” square steel tubing, cold rolled 1”-3” dowel.

1/2”x6” plate. Cuts through it all like butter. Very little dust, minimal sparks, easy clean up. The miter is easy to adjust and holds its angle very precisely. The clamp holds the material very well.

Love this saw. If your looking for a metal chop saw this is worth every penny. My mitre cuts are dead on making welding frames a joy. Wish I hadn’t wasted my money on abrasive saws in the past. If your thinking of buying this saw.

I’ve been a Milwaukee Tool fan for nearly 25 years. They should be ashamed of themselves. The blade is completely done after just four small cuts (6″ each) in my HVAC galvanized plenum. At this price, it was returned for full refund.

Bought only the left for an alternative replacement to a cheap pair of wiss snips that had broke. As durable as they are they do not cut up to 16 gauge. Wiss will outperform them hands down, and Midwest will outperform Wiss.

Good as a backup pair/set but thats it. Too much serration marks left behind on softer materials such as aluminum or copper. Good for 20 gauge and up on galvanized and mild steel sheets.

Worst Left snips ever! Purchased these snips in May 2018 online. Problem being they are not left cutting snips, they are built the same as right/straight snips. I was expecting long cutting LEFT snips as advertised.

Very dissatisfied. That being said they are great RIGHT snips and perform perfectly well as RIGHT snips. If the product was advertised as Long Cut Offset Right Aviation Snips I would give them 5 stars.

These cutters are reliable and a great price. We use them for cutting holes in steel poles for powerlines.

It is brand new, still in box, and works great! Came very fast in post.

Bought this for a complicated roof repair. I knew I would either have to continually go down and make custom cuts off the roof, or get a tool like this where I could cut on site. No hassle of sparks on the roof, and the ability to cut through ribs and angles is great.

Now that I have it, I pull it out anytime I’m doing metal work. Quick rough cut with this, then fine tune with shears. Saves a bunch of time, and no need to set your self up somewhere if you’re worried about sparks ruining finish work.

I bought this nibbler to cut R and U panel metal roofing and siding. I had been using regular snips which took a long time. Now I can cut panels to length in about 20 seconds and cut in my valleys just as quickly.

The tool is fast, cordless and makes accurate cuts. Saves a lot of time and frustration. The only reason for 4 stars is because with the “fin” on the back of the tool, it is hard to cut tight circles.

Cuts straight with no problem and is easy to control.

I purchased online and just received this tool. It said tool only, so I thought no case, but I was expecting a battery and charger. Majorly disappointing, The battery and charger are sold separate. This brings the price to well over $600.

00 for the actual working tool. Now I can look at it for two weeks till the battery and charger arrive.

I bought the 14 Fein Slugger Dry Cut Metal Saw over 6 months ago. I bought this saw for my own shop at home, but I use an Evolution 14 saw at work. The Evolution is still 1000X better than any abrasive saw, but the Slugger blows it way out of the water! There is really no comparison between them.

The Evolutions base is about as flat as a pretzel, its stamped, thin sheet steel with waves, peaks, low-points, and a super rough surface. You cant even put a square up the front edge to true the fence angle up to the blade.

The angle gauge is completely useless and inaccurate, so if you need any amount of precision, youll have to dial it in every time through trial and error. Basically its a guessing game with the Evo. Beyond that, the work holding mechanism is not very rigid for several reasons.

The first, most obvious one is just that the entire base is a flimsy, pretzeled up piece of sheet steel. Second, the vibration of the saw and workpiece arent too bad, but theres way more vibration and blade deflection & walking than the Slugger.

The third only applies when trying to make a miter cut, as the movable jaw cant provide sufficient surface area or the proper balance of clamping forces to support the workpiece at any angle other than 90, so the workpiece moves, causing theangle to come out wrong every time.

The Evolution blades cut much slower than the Slugger blades, they vibrate, walk, deflect, and dont maintain smooth cutting action like the Slugger blades do. The Slugger is a beast, weighing over 60lbs.

The base is very flat and has a super smooth surface finish, as do the vise jaws. The base is somewhere around 1 inch thick and is a solid casting, most likely machined from MIC-6 or some similar cast tool & jig plate alloy.

The cutting action is very quiet, extremely fast and smooth. You cant feel the teeth of the blade contacting the work, its just a swift glide through the material every time. Its very consistent, precise, and leaves a much better finish without burrs relative to the Evo or any other metal cutting method/machine except for maybe a good milling machine! The Slugger is just a beautiful machine in every way.

Its solid, it was very obviously made with great precision and attention to quality and detail. If youre someone who appreciates, and values precision, quality, accuracy, repeatability, efficiency, and craftsmanship, then this is THE machine for you.

It is absolutely worth every penny to have such a well built saw that you can rely on to produce high quality results every time and will hold up to industrial use for years to come. For me, its also really nice that I can make cuts without generating a lot of noise, and without any dust or sparks, or surface contaminants.

If you need a great saw, you will never regret investing in the Slugger.

I have been using the Harbor Freight 64. 5 band saw for several years and while it works great, it is very slow. I have been reading about and watching videos of the Fein 14 inch Slugger for a while now and so I decided to get one to see what all the hoopla was all about.

The package came in two business days. It is well boxed from the factory and arrived undamaged. I had quite a bit of metal that needed to be cut so I brought the saw down stairs. it weighs in at about 65 lbs.

not light but not all that heavy to me. I set it up on my workbench and plugged it in. The chain that holds the cutter wheel down while moving it is a bit tight and sticks into the hook by the plastic shield with the warning on it.

It was easy to bend and I think I will keep the plastic shield on as it keeps the little chips from hitting my face. I always wear eye protection and I also wear hearing protection although this saw is a lot quieter than some of the other cold cut saws I have used and seen.

Using it is easy. a two safety switch system. You have to pull both in towards the handle for the saw to run. Cutting 1. 5″ x. 5 inch square bar was very easy. Did 50 cuts in less than 20 minutes. way way faster than the HF band saw.

Cuts were accurate and square. Cut somecold rolled 3/4 round and did that very easily. I took my time cutting, not forcing the cut as the blade really does the work easily. I took a tip from an old timey machinist who uses one of these by spraying the blade with WD40 every 5 cuts or so.

just a quick spray while the blade is moving on both sides. He says that the blades will last a lot longer by doing this. It does keep the sparks down although this saw has very few of those. a whole lot less than my Milwaukee abrasive chop saw.

And NO DUST!!!!! The chips will land mostly in the tray in the back of the saw although some will bounce around outside the saw and onto the work bench. Wear a heavy duty shirt that will not allow the chips to stick to you.

I made the mistake of wearing a wool sweater and I was picking chips out of it. not fun. Make sure you have a shop vac and a wide broom handy. Cleaning up is a lot easier with those. The base is flat and cast.

not like some of the other saws that have pressed sheet steel and are not all that flat. Not sure of the longevity of the blade but so far it is holding up very well cutting 1/2 inch thick steel. I hear people getting up to a 1000 cuts.

we will see. The blades are around 120 dollars or so which breaks down to about 8 cents a cut depending on if you get 1000 cuts. Even at a slightly higher cost per cut, it is well worth the time saved over other cutting methods.

I highly recommend this saw. Built better than many of the others and the blade seems to be very well made. Yeah it is a bit more expensive but as the old timey machinist told me. you get what you pay for.

Putting the Fein name on this certainly baited me into buying this saw because all of the Fein tools I have are Made in Germany. Nowhere on this saw is the name Fein. The tag does say “Made in Taiwan”.

Talk about misleading. I’ve seen the name Jancy on it elsewhere. Also note there is no way to adjust the blade perpendicular to the table. Most machinery would provide some form of adjustment for that.

It is what it is now and after it wears out to any degree. While the saw table and vise are better than the Dewalt, there’s nothing else that strikes me as great. It cuts the same as the Dewalt. The blade has a bit of a vertical oscillation too for some reason.

Overall, it was ok to keep but I do have a fair amount of disappointment.

Excellent piece of equipment. Had to know how the drill motor will hold up if it is being used a lot but for my purpose, occasional use, it is very good. It came with an extra set of shear blades and motor brushes which is a bonus.

I’m really happy with the tool so far.

One of the best tools I’ve ever owned for the purposes that is meant for.

Works well but nibbler is not sharp and it jams. Useable but just okay.

The tool is a great concept, but the moving head blade side is so loose it doesn’t keep the gap setting. It even chipped the blade requiring me to buy a new set of blades. I’ll see if resetting it with new blades will work better before setting this tool aside.

Also it said the blades where tungsten carbide but they are hardened tool steel.

I bought these shears with very low expectations due to the price. I’ve always used the more expensive shears that are 4 times the price, and all I can say is wow. These preformed flawless and cut everything I needed.

When the time comes to replace them I will definitely be purchasing these again!.

First use was to cut up sheet metal from the outside of an old water heater. Worked great. Pros: quality tool. Cons: Blade adjustment takes care and time.

I purchased this set of snips to replace an old set from another brand that had broken after years of use. Although the old set of snips did the job, they had a “loose” feeling that always made it a little more difficult when cutting sheet metal.

With these DeWalt snips, I immediately noticed how the various parts were tightly fitted together and how “sturdy” they felt. This makes a noticeable difference when cutting sheet metal as compared to what I was used to.

These DeWalt snips cut the metal effortlessly and their sturdiness makes it easy to make tight and precise cuts. I definitely recommend these!.

Turns out aviation snips are perfect for cutting copper electrical wires, and the long cut snips allows me to cut a whole bunch at once and reach deep into narrow crevices. These DeWalt snips are decently priced, cut well, and are very robustly built.

I also like the one handed release, which is easy to use & doesnt get in the way.

I have only used the red snips once so far. They cutt with ease. Handle is very comfortable. The price is great. Basically getting a pair for free.

Heavy, powerful, average price for this type tool. I have used air powered cutter before, and am comparing to that experience. However, the cutter could be better. Cutting 18 gauge sheet, had to push hard to keep cutter engaged, as if there were not quite enough bite area.

Hard to keep on a straight line, and seemed to be struggling to cut. It seems to me the unit has the power, just the cutter design being straight line rather than slightly curved jaws. The cord should be out the back and not the bottom; by design the cord now is pushed onto the work piece and is more prone to being in the way.

I am only using this very occasionally so it is not a big concern, however, if I were cutting sheet on. a regular basis I would get a better designed one. Unless your primary material is much thinner.

This is the best thing I’ve used for Fuel Pump Replacements in autos. Yes, I Cheat. I cut a “Trap Door” to get to fuel pumps vs. Taking Fuel tank out of vehicle. I’ve had to do 5 of my own, and 8 customers.

Of course I explain to people what I do, get waiver signed to cut a hole in vehicle. Once initial hole is made, the cut a serious path to get to pump. I always use a Fire Blanket over the tank, even though this tool makes NO Sparks as a grinder or cutting wheel would.

Most Pro Mechanics DO NOT Approve of this method, but for me and my shade tree, saves a Lot of time, and aggravation.

These things are SO much better than trying to use hand shears. They literally cut through sheet metal like butter! One tip: if you need to cut curves, “wobble” them slightly from side to side while turning the shears in the direction of your curve.

That makes it way easier as they really want to cut straight lines. Great value for the project I needed to do (cutting the backs out of 6 metal cabinets). I may never need them again, but as usual with Harbor Freight, you can own a tool for less than a rental.

These seem well made and were very powerful.
