20 Best Tool Box For Garage (2023 Updated)

Got this toolbox for my husband, when his old one became unusable. I was surprised by the size of it. I actually thought it would be a little bigger, but he loves it. It’s sturdy, lightweight (even thought it’s metal) and the fact that it can be broken up into smaller boxes makes it easier for him to store in his truck without the tools getting all mixed up.

The product also arrived way before it was scheduled, so that made for an unexpected surprise for him.

I purchased this as a Christmas gift for my husband. It arrived in a box packed in styrofoam. I wrapped it up immediately, so my husband wouldn’t open and look in to see his gift. Upon opening it Christmas day, he discovered the item was completely cracked on the top corner of the first toolbox and the bottom plastic framing was broken as well.

Clearly the item was abused in transit. Other than the damaged item, it looks like a functional item and my husband would like to replace it with an undamaged one of the same.

These boxes are convenient for when you work outside. You can just close the lid if a monsoon comes and know that your tools, snacks, camping food, sensitive equipment, etc will stay dry, yet it is breathable in extreme her or cold and it allows for expansion and contraction from the weather.

they stack easily and have multiple handles and ways to carry them. If you’re like me and you haven’t evolved to the point of having a good bed cover or camper shell, these convenient boxes can be in the bed of your truck without worrying about your equipment getting wet.

They come with dividers to help with organization. it’s not too big and you can grab the box you need for your job or camping or whatever you do. You can put your clothes or camp groceries or your antiques for sale or trade, in them.

If you do arts and crafts, these are perfect for transporting them to show, rockhounding, fishing equipment, etc, whatever you do! These boxes are rugged and are one of the best accessories you can own whether you own the other Decked toolbox systems or not.

Go out and buy a few and you will quickly wonder how you have done without them all this time. One minor complaint and you will need to look elsewhere for this, but I wish they offered foam inserts to cushion your valuables.

Like the entire Decked “system,” it’s just a molded plastic box. It can’t be completely sealed because vacuum pressure would prevent it from opening, so you have to notch the gasket. Overall, the box is very sturdy but it sits at a different height than the “D Box” so they look uneven in the truck box.

Neither of them will open while mounted inside the truck box, which is annoying and the main reason I can’t give it a “5” rating. You’d think that by 2022 someone could design a box that would open while mounted inside a larger toolbox.

inset hinges anyone? It does no good to have an attached ladder if you have to remove the smaller boxes to open them. Then, where do you put them? Truck bed? What if it’s loaded already or has debris or waste in it or maybe uneven objects that you can’t sit the smaller toolbox on and open it? If it’s wet or muddy, you don’t want to sit the small box on the ground, so you see the dilemma.

Making use of the lid by adding measurements is smart and handy. The latches are nice and tight. That can be good or bad depending on the situation. Overall, it’s a quality product. Excellent workmanship, but then, it’s a molded plastic box! Either up your game by making it more user friendly, or lower the prices.

It is made in the USA so that is a BIG plus for the demographic. With a few tweeks it would be great!.

Let me start by saying that I LOVE my DECKED system and would be more than happy with you sharing my experience externally. I don’t know what category I belong to for my use but I’m a family man with two young kids.

I drive a full sized crew cab pickup. By the time you add in gear, food, guns (which until I had the DECKED system I wouldn’t put guns in the bed of my truck because I didn’t want them bouncing around), there was no room for the kids.

I’ve had the DECKED system for a month. All my gear is stored and everything is out of my truck and neatly stowed for quick use. I will admit that I lost some minor functionality but I’ll get it back.

I currently have a tri-fold hard cover so with the DECKED system I only have about a foot above the system for storage. I’ve purchased a camper shell which will reclaim my storage space. Once installed it will allow me to have my kids sleep on the DECKED system and for my wife and I to sleep on the camper shell in a tent.

I simply can’t say enough about the DECKED system. Best storage system available on the market.

I’ve never owned one but you can get the craftsman equivalent for 60 dollars I don’t recommend this box just go to Lowe’s and get a higher quality one

1st, they are nice boxes, though the price keeps climbing. 2nd, these have thicker steel than most of the other boxes for sale at competing box stores and compare better to a serious snap-off or matco box.

3rd, the drawer spacing is great and means that you actually get more space in these boxes for their size. so many others now have these huge deep drawers that are useless unless you want to put all your cordless power tools in there (I don’t.

), rather than the usual sockets, wrenches, screwdrivers, etc. 4th, these are heavier than they look. I didn’t have much help to unload it at my shop, so I used an engine hoist – easy peasy. I bought two, to put side by side.

The first one is great, no issues. The second one the box looked different and was a bit roughed up. got it out and it looked ok, so no big deal. but wait, the last drawer won’t come out all the way.

bad slider rivet. ok, no problem, remove the bad one and install a fresh one and now it works fine. Go to move it and it only rolls on 3 wheels and teeter totters. hmm. Roll it up next to the first one and that’s when I notice this one has a significant lean to the right (about an inch of lean, from top to bottom!), probably when it got dropped on a corner somewhere between here and china.

So now that one needs to go back. Also noticed its somehow about 3/8″ shorter than the first one! Probably slightly different casters. That alone sucks, since I plan to have them sitting next to each other.

Yes, I could shim the short one, but for over a grand, should I need to do that? If they had both been perfect, it would be 5 stars. Hopefully there isn’t an issue getting the damaged one swapped out for a new one that matches box #1.

Moral – check, inspect, and be prepared to maybe have an issue. these have a long trip to make it from factory to us.

This will be box #14. I’ve known about US General for a long time. The bang for the buck, features, durability etc. I retired from auto repair after 45 yrs. and made much of my living out of a tool box.

I would recommend these boxes for any tech, especially a new guy. They are a tremendous value and in the home environment an even better choice. I stripped mine out of the packaging including the custom pallet at the store to inspect for damage, there was none.

The casters were already installed. In other words it was ready to go as soon as I got home. I used my tractor with add on forks to unload it as it weighs almost 300 lbs. Be careful there! The drawers have liners, they have a detent that keeps them closed, and a keyed lock for security.

They slid in and out nicely. I also used an advertised 10% discount, and an additional 5% for being a club member so save almost $100. Anyway, a great choice, a nice durable box, and no headaches. Call first as they only have a couple per store!.

I bought this because I was looking for a small toolbox the was girly. No confusion on who’s toolbox this. It passed my expectations. The drawers close nice and smooth and and the top is deep and locks.

So my boyfriend and I live together and love to work on cars. With that comes the ownership of a ton of tools, He owns Chevy, I own Toyota, so we have two different sets of tools. I was looking for tool chests that we could each store our tools in.

I wanted something that was more awesome than just plain boring black or the old tired red that all our fathers owned. When I saw these I thought they were perfect. I definitely didn’t want pink, but this green is bright, cheery, and just my style.

This piece fits on top of the bottom chest perfectly. The top of this chest lifts up and stores stuff in the top, and there are drawers that are the perfect depth for the tools I want to store in it.

So far I don’t have any complaints, my tools fit into each of the drawers and allows me to stay organized. It also allows me to keep my tools separate from my boyfriend’s. The chest has held up well and is still the bright green color that it was the day I bought it.

Exactly what I was looking for! Strong, durable, love the matching mats and because of the great shiny color coating, they can easily be left out on display. I bought 2 of them, an orange for tools and the lime green for office supplies that sit on my work table in my home office, thus helping to eliminate clutter.

I’d love to get 2 more different colors!.

As part of my garage renovation project I went to Lowes and purchased approximately $7,500 in Craftsman products itemized below: • 7 x Item#: 1061661 @ $469/each = $3,283. 00 • 2 x Item#: 1022359 @ $329/each = $658.

00 • 4 x Item#: 1061663 @ $279/each = $1,116. 00 • 1 x Item#: 997954 @ $699 = $699. 00 • 1 x Item#: 997955 @ $799 = $799. 00 Sub-Total = $6,555. 00 Grand-Total (with taxes) = $7,407. 15 I was surprised to find significant damage to the products as I started to unpack them.

Almost all of the items were damaged to some degree ranging from small dents to large ones which had to be reshaped. The cabinet panels also had significant scratches on some of them. The Craftsman plastic badging had also broken off a few of the cabinets and work benches.

The most significant damage however was in the base unit on ALL of the (7) cabinets had MAJOR damage which could not be repaired. The mounts for the support legs had snapped right off as it only had two little spot welds holding them on.

This ultimately prevented me from being able to install the support legs. I am very disappointed in the overall product quality and packaging which caused significant damage. I would like to know from Craftsman what can be done to reimburse me for these obvious product quality issues (I do have photo evidence of all the damage).

I recently purchased this cabinet having read the reviews. Easy to assemble few pieces were scratched nothing major but one of the side panels was bent making installation of top piece. Rather that putting back into his and returning it I was determined to make it fit.

One the sides are to holes where screws will go I had to insert screw drivers and twist to make holes line up. Having done that it worked but there is a gap at top back of cabinet. Makes me wonder about quality control at craftsman.

Once all was completed I’m happy with how it looks I just hope they will fix these issues quickly.

purchased two cabinets from Lowe’s as part of a weekend garage re-organize project. Giving this product a 3 rating due to missing parts/hardware bag. Not being able to assemble the cabinet ruined the weekend project as now I have to try and find parts that should have been in the box.

The box was not damaged and banding straps were intact. So, clearly, it was a failure on the quality control/inspection aspect at the end of the assembly line. After contacting and getting shuffled around to various customer service reps at Craftsman and Lowe’s, I am told it’ll be up to a week and a half before receiving the missing item.

Not happy with quality control right now.

I happened to be walking in Walmart when I saw this cabinet. It is exactly what I wanted and the price was way better than elsewhere. I looked everywhere for a multi-drawer cabinet with rollers and with this width.

This is what fit for me. I put my smaller tool box on top with no issues. I can’t find where the weight rating is for the top of this cabinet but I think my smaller tool box is close to 100-125 lbs I still can’t figure out the wheels and how to lock them but ok, I have everything else to my liking.

I am not rolling it out unless I need to clean. Most likely it is staying put. I put a piece of cardboard on each side to protect the sides and on a side work table I have a vise so I could not use the side handle for either side.

I am keeping it until I need it/can use it.

I bought this to store my grinder,clamps,and larger tools. It will be modified to hold a shielding gas bottle and my mig welder and plasma cutter will sit on top. I like the nice deep drawers and the prìce.

As good as construction as some of the Craftsmen boxes and better than some. It was delivered packed in styrafoam on the sides top and bottom. Had plastic corner protecters and a sturdy cardboard box.

Quality powder coated finish. Very nice looking box for $129. 00. Some entry level box sets are selling for $119. 00. This is not the same as the top of the line boxes at the big box stores but it’s close.

Don’t be afraid to buy this. You will need to get some drawer liners. Only assembly is to bolt on the wheels and the handle. The handle is a tubular design.

I read a ton of reviews on the other 2 brands from the home stores and they had reports of damage and being flimsy/tin like steel. These are suprisingly durable for the price and packaged impeccable! One had a big gouge in the corner of the cardboard box however the packing was so strong and thick that the toolbox was just fine.

I own a Matco 6S -3 bay box that cost more than my first car and these could never compare. However they weigh around 85lb empty and the pannels are not flimsy and roller bearing drawers!. not bad for the size and price.

I can’t comment on the 50lb drawer weight capacity as im using these for cabinets under a uplift sit/stand L shape office desk versus tool storage.

Pros: Quality exceeds anything else in this price point. Price is very reasonable. Strong drawers. Ample storage room. Rolls very easily. Modular design allows for additional cabinets & boxes. Cons: No drawer locks.

*Definitely became a major issue for me* Because drawers have no locks, you almost have to slam the drawers to “lock” them causing all of your tools to shoot forward. I found this extremely annoying.

Even if you closed the drawer gently, the friction lock system still causes tools to slide forward and jumble the components within the drawers. 44” is kind of small, I recommend stepping up to the next size up.

Plus you get actual locks! Conclusion: It’s a great value for the money, however I would step up to the next size up because of more room and actual locks on the drawers.

I wrote a review (an honest review) on this box and Harbour Freight would not publish it: I was very excited when this box was released. Good looking, Solid, and the price oh my, how could I go wrong.

I own a shop and this box was to be bought to replace my 30-year-old craftsman box at home. Got it home and begin to set it up. The drawers are too shallow to accommodate any deep well sockets, which make it very frustrating considering I am a mechanic.

None of the blow box storage for test equipment will fit, once again because the drawers are to shallow. Except for the price and construction this box is basically a paper weight in my home shop. I’m so disappointed cause it seemed to to be the perfect replacement.

As far as recommending this box I guess I would say, take some samples of the tools you plan to store in the box and try it on for size.

Have owned this cabinet for about a month now. I like the storage capacity of this cabinet. I moved up from a 26 inch Craftsman cabinet and this makes finding tools a breeze. I am able to have a separate drawer for different tools.

I like the blue color that I selected. After 45 years of red cabinets it is a nice change. The quality and value of this cabinet is outstanding. Would recommend it to everyone. I liked it so much I have ordered the matching top box to go with it.

My only dislike is it came with some slight damage to two of the drawer fronts when I unpacked it. The box it came in showed some abuse when I picked up the cabinet. But was assured at that time it could be returned if damaged.

I decided to keep it instead of returning for a replacement because of it’s size and weight. Currently do small engine repair and service. And do my own upkeep on farm and yard equipment.

With everyone’s busy life and schedule. The last thing I want to do is to search for the things I need. So instead I setup one of these so that I have what I need and if I don’t have the time to finish.

I just put everything back in the box. So it’s all there ready to go when I am. I highly recommend this tool box.

Bought total of 10 lower cabinets and 11 top cabinets with one locker and they are fantastic! The best cabinet in this collection is the 42 inch pro tool cabinets because of it is large enough to fit entire sets of tools such as sockets, wrenches, pliers all in their own drawer.

Easy to organize and very sturdy, also very nice to have the 4 inch height so my sockets could be organized standing upwards for example with the bottom drawers standing at 9 inch height and 20 inch depth allowing all power tool to store in one drawer.

It is very nice to have all drawers and cabinet doors to roll out smoothly and have a soft self easy closing system. The metal drawer separators are also an amazing feature to organize and separate as you please.

Installation was very simple as New Age provides all bolts and accessories for installation. It would be nice to have option for some identification tags on each drawer and also kick plates to prevent dirt and object from rolling under the cabinets.

Overall these cabinets are well worth the money, sturdy, practical and gorgeous. Highly recommended!.

I purchased a cabinet set for my engineering development area. The quality of the cabinets is pretty good. I had no issues with damaged panels. The powder coat finish is high quality. Overall, my engineers are very happy with the cabinets.

I will consider NewAge in the future for additional cabinets and also for cabinets in my home.
