20 Best Tool Bag For Mechanics (2023 Updated)

Makes and excellent tool bag. I keep it behind my passenger seat with my jack and tire iron. Functionally it is a bit smaller than a shoebox, I don’t know why but I was expecting it to be bigger. That being said for what I need it holds all my simple tools.

A full set of screwdrivers, a set of small metric wrenches, a small and medium size crescent wrench, pliers and wire cutters, a battery terminal tool, my continuity tester for checking fuses, a set of picks, a small led flashlight, and a utility knife all in the main compartment.

Why don’t I use the side compartments to store any of that? Maybe organize it a bit? I’m glad you asked. The snaps are awful. I mean they are certainly secure, because they are extremely stiff. Lots of stuff made overseas has what I would refer to as an extra tight finish.

They use prefabricated generic parts that fit perfectly fine until they get painted or plated for cosmetics and they become out of spec and either fit way too tight or not at all. That being said its not a huge loss for me, there isn’t much space in those pockets for tools anyways but I am a packrat so it may fit your needs.

I also don’t use the tool organizer inside, None of my tools really fit in them without jutting out of the top of the bag and they are pretty small in size. I imagine most screwdriver handles would be too big to fit.

If you use it as a range bag I’m sure some bore brushes would fit fine, definitely rolled up swatches. Little bits and bobs. Don’t expect to be organizing standard size tools in them. That being said, I love this bag for what it is and the price I paid.

Short of filling it with lead I don’t think it would break on you. I have sensitive skin and unlike some other bags and fabrics items I have bought I didn’t get a weird rash from handling this before cleaning it.

It did smell weird, other people have mentioned that as well. The zipper is sturdy. As I mentioned before it is not very big which I was looking for at the time but now I would buy it again for that reason, it stows away nicely in tight spaces even when filled as long as it isn’t way overstuffed.

Buy one if it comes up again.

I have one of these with a Bosch driver and bits, with other associated tools like a small vise grip plier, a small crescent wrench, a collapsible magnet wand, box cutter, flashlight, charger, etc. Another one holds all my 18650 style lights, batteries (in cases) and chargers.

If the power goes out they are readily at hand. Another one holds shoe polishing supplies. Horsehair brushes in fitted tins, dauber brushes, conditioners, saddle soap, cloths and cream and wax polishes and edge dressings.

A piece of medium fine grit sandpaper for sole edges. There are categories of tool or task that lend themselves well to a bag such as this one. I have toolboxes with more space for general portable use but no need to lug one of those when what I need is a bit driver with its accessories.

This bag is a great size for those common jobs with that common tool. Considering a couple more for other uses needing the same limited size, portability and protection of other tools and supplies for other common jobs.

material is great, construction great and use is proving the bags good for the things I use them for. I’d buy them again and probably will.

Got this product for my daughter’s new dachshund puppy and she loves it!! She uses this bag as an overnight bag for him and it’s perfect. When she travels out of town with her puppy, she can pack his overnight bag as well.

Has lots of space for his food, toys, and snacks, etc.

Wow! This bag is better than I expected. the canvas bag is a tough, sturdy item so it will diffently be lasting forever, it’s tough like the material that’s used in Carhartt products. There is alot of room for tools or some equipment, strong zippers, reinforced egdes so it ‘stands up’.

I really got a deal on this bag the only problem is that I requested a silver grey and they sent navy blue but it’s not something to lose sleep over just that the silver/grey is easier to spot when your in a hurry.

It is made very well and should last for years with some care. The brass zipper is tops unlike plastic zippers you are now seeing in tool bags and even work coats. I bought this one for keeping my chainsaw tools in.

This bag is a good size. It’s not too big, but it will hold large flashlights and screwdrivers. The inside has pockets on both sides – one side are many small pockets and the other is 2 bigger pockets.

Each side has a buttoned flap on the outside with 2 pockets each. The brass zipper is sturdy. It’s a nice utility bag.

Beautiful, beautiful – piece of kit. This item is generally bought to support the brand name DeWalt. From the outside, much praise goes out to this bag as the colour scheme is much more discreet than other competitors.

The Flap of the front pouch has a zippered compartment and two pouches – these make for a very organised admin section of the bag, for the storage of things like pens, invoices, note pads. The inner part of the front flap has mesh netting with two pockets that are ideal for storage of bit sets, thus offering innovative storage possibilities.

Storing sharp objects in the mesh netting will only damage the bag and diminish its functionality. It is a backpack – the main compartment opens up very wide, so it is more than likely that this bag is set up to be a job specific bag, to store parts and accessories needed to complete certain or small jobs.

This bag is practically a tool belt for the back. Another feature worthy of mention is the built in work light. It is peace of mind to know that there will be an opportunity for some light. The light is adequate and is something else which will need maintenance and some extra care to make it last to its maximum potential.

But it is very much appreciated how at least the bag has an inbuilt option for some light. Most people don’t know that there is a light on the bag unless they know about this feature or until they see it being used, which is great – the light is covert an well integrated.

The only drawbacks i can come up with are the following: – it could stand to be five to six inches taller. – instead of tapering off at the mouth/opening. I would not mind if the overall bag was generally more rectangular.

– thicker shoulder padding should be included as a removable feature. – some molle attachment points would be nice, so that things such as saw blades can be stored separately – there is no hydration bladder storage section.

– lastly, if a belt strap could be integrated and hidden away, like in some adventure backpacks, this would definitely be up there as a Rolls Royce of backpack style tool bags. Overall all – this bag will suit some more than others.

Still, one can never have enough bags at the worst of times and this one is of higher quality, made by a brand with a good reputation.

I sourced this type of bag to use as my Railroad grip. The pockets fit both of my phones, reverser, pens, flashlights, time book and many other small items I carry. Outside zipper pocket holds my train documents, the pockets on the back are good for gloves, vest and the erg book.

Inside I can fit my lunch, a few drink cans and snacks. A side pocket holds my day/night safety glasses. Theres easily room to still pack a change of clothes and toiletry but I just use this as my local bag.

Only had it for a few weeks but so far so good. I do maintenance work so I’m happy with the amount of storage for the size of the bag. I can fit all the hand tools I typically need as well as my drill & impact and accessories.

It fits enough stuff that it can get pretty chunky so I’m glad it has a shoulder strap when I have to carry it for a decent distance and it also frees up my hands. As long as the build quality holds up ( zippers, pockets etc ) I definitely consider it a good purchase.

Works great, holds tools securely, even the ones at the end, which I was skeptical of it securing. I just do small handy man type repairs, not a professional by any means. I like using it over my metal tool box, as it’s not as clunky, and stuff isn’t just flying around in there.

My only complaint is the size of the pockets could be varied a bit more to help me secure some smaller tools, and individual pocket flaps for the three velcro pockets on the end, vs one large flap. Otherwise I love it and am ordering another one.

The tool pouch is well-made and looks great. It was a little smaller than I had anticipated but has assorted size slats for Tools. It rolls up and holds the tools securely. I had hoped to order it in black but the black was sold out.

I purchased it for a emergency tool pouch to carry on my motorcycle. I have large saddle bags so a larger pouch would fit. It does serve its function. It would be nice if Carhart made a tool pouch that would hold combination wrenches in assorted sizes.

I like it so well I’m thinking of ordering a second one for my truck. It matches the 28 inch Carhart tool bag perfectly. If it were a little larger one could carry a few larger Tools. Quality and design is a five but due to the size I was wanting,I give it a 4.

I use this roll every day. Its nice to have a compact vessel for all the tools I use on a regularly. Two little issues though, one of the plastic buckles has broken and comes undone sometimes, also the compartments at the end of the roll have never stayed closed.

I think snaps would work better than the weak velcro.

Larger than normal bags. Fits more things into it. Using it for a drill bag to hold drill, chargers, batteries and drill bit kits.

Supposed to be “Jumbo.” Actually kind of tiny. There’s not enough room to replace my old tool bag. Maybe I will use it as a range bag; probably not.

Arrived a day earlier than stated. Appears to be good quality bag. Ordered the OD one and it appears like the one in the pic, however the snap buttons on mine were black plastic not brass. Made of an old-school heavy cotton canvas type fabric.

The zipper is nice and stout too. The inside has a few small dividers on the inside of the sidewalls. I have never had the issued version of this bag, but it seems like it’s probably a faithful representation of it.

Looks like one your grandpa would’ve carried back in the day. The only problem is that it smells like that too: had a weird musty smell like something that comes from grandpas basement from the 1940s.

Rinsed it off so will see if that gets rid of it.

These military grade tool bags are perfect for carrying tools, using as a gun bag for your favorite pistol, and a thousand other uses. Very durable, flexible, tough. My one suggestion: get a BRASS ZIPPER.

I notice that Rothco and other makers are going to Nylon or plastic zippers. I haven’t bought one yet (nor do I plan to), but my gut says that they aren’t going to hold up like the Brass Zipper. Keep the zipper oiled, keep the bag clean, it will last you a lifetime.

BTW, I carried one of these in the U. S. Air Force for 4 years. this is essentially the exact same bag!.

The Rothco small bag (“12” or so) is exactly what I was looking for in the type of bag I can just place all my tools into without having to sort them in compartments. Just toss em in, and go. Of course for the fine tip screwdriver, thread-lock, and thickness gauge tools there are several small pockets (about two-fingerwidths) on both insides to store these into, and each outside has a flap with a larger pocket with buttons.

I’ve already ordered another one for my dad. Car and airplane mechanics, boaters, hunters, hobbyists all have a use for this bag. Not to mention it’s aesthetically very nice. tough canvas, nice finishing touches, and a large heavy duty, gold-colored zipper.

The bag is made of a very heavy canvas cloth. The pockets on both front and back are good for separating small tools. The zipper is heavy duty brass. The overall quality is great for the price.

Great product. It’s exactly what we were hoping for. Inexpensive, yet durable enough to store what we needed. Love the pockets and snaps. We plan to buy them again.

For a knock-off its not bad at all. Had to replace an Army-issue tool bag after 25 years and this seems it will be a great second go. I did have to open a couple stiches that closed off the exterior pockets (a clue that it was a knock-off) but no harm no foul.

I have been using a Klien Rolling Bag but needed something bigger. But the larger Klien bag is almost double the price of the ToughBuilt. I have been using the Bag for a couple of weeks and can’t fault it in any way.

Good quality tool bag with good sized wheels, my only gripe really is it would have been better with a double zip as then the user would be able to padlock the zips together, just having a single zip prevents this.

Other than that it is a very sturdy and efficient bag for what I need it for.

If youre a fan of Dewalt youll justify this purchase but its really a bag with a light, if you regularly work in the dark over winter its probably a justifiable upgrade as the light doubles as a light inside the bag so you can see what tool you need or flips so you can shine it where youre working, its not going to replace your rechargeable head torch or site lamp by any stretch.

At this price Id recommend getting a dewalt dcl050 lamp for 40 and DWST82991 for 50 the lights better and the bags bigger.

Amazing toolbag!! Especially with the light feature!! It really does light up the tool bag I can now find the tools easily. It’s got good handles so easy to lift when loaded with hand drills etc and it has plenty of pockets to hold nik naks tapes , drill bits etc.

I needed a quick carry bag for my basic tools to take back & forth, instead of my heavy toolbox on wheels. I didn’t need everything, just some stuff and this is a great bag for that. It’s thick, sturdy, and has lots of pockets to utilize — inside & out.

I wish it were just a LITTLE bit deeper because anything with a long handle has to lay down flat instead of using the pockets on the inside. But with the wide mouth zipper, it’s easy to open & look for things.

Then, some of the pockets on the inside are VERY thinly sewn. So storing a screwdriver would be handle UP, instead of handle in the pocket. Also, I have another kit in the bag which is a bit bigger and won’t allow the bag to be zippered, however, with this design, I can still pull the handles together to carry it.

So packing this thing to the fattest still allows you to use the carry handles — which is a good thing. Anyway, this is brand new to me, so Idk about the longevity of it, but with the structure & stitching of it, it “seems” like it’ll last a good long while.

I give it two drills up.

The bag was as described, measurements were and bag were just right for what I needed. Bag itself is well made with heavy material and heavy stitching. There are two inside open compartments, one on each side of the interior of the bag that are handy for smaller items.

The zipper is heavy duty and covered by the material when zipped closed.

These bags look great. I think I left a one star feedback and simply made a mistake. Five stars all around.

Perfect For Heavy Wrenches And Tools ! Works Great On My Fire Truck

I was very pleased with the first one I purchased about two years ago but this second one is a bit of a disappointment. The material appears to have much less padding causing the walls to collapse easily and It only has the ‘Makita’ logo embroidered on one side.

Mind you it does have a number of internal pockets which the first one didn’t. Sadly It just feels cheaper. If it wasn’t for the 20% discounted price I would have returned it.

IT’S WELL BUILT, I RUN AROUND A SAWMILL THROW IT IN A CORNER, IT HOLD’S UP WELL, DON’T WORRY ABOUT IT HOLDING UP, IT’S GOT A PORTABLE HACK SAW IN IT, AND IT GETS TOSSED AROUND, AND IT HAS A PORTABLE BAND SAW SAW IN IT, MAKITA XBP02Z, AND BOTH HOLD UP GREAT, ( HEAD MILLWRIGHT 15 YEARS).

BOTH BAG AND SAW ARE GREAT TO STAND SAWMILL ABUSE.

The bag is sturdy and well made. The bottom has two skids that stiffen the bag’s form and really protect it when you drag it on the ground. I have 35+ lbs of heavy 10-3 extension cords coiled and stored in this bag and it gets thrown in the van for travel to job sites.

Seems perfect and ready to take some abuse.

I bought one of these to keep some tools in. I was a bit wary of the “heavy duty” as I’d seen “heavy duty” bags before that were rubbish. This however is exactly what it says. This is a real heavy duty bag with good strong handles and should last a good many years.

In fact I have so much faith in this bag, I’ve already purchased a second one. I would say that if you’re after a real heavy duty bag, then this is the one for you.

This tool bag was bought to keep a cordless saw in as the item didnt come with a case/bag. The canvas tool bag will keep the saw clean and tidy when not in use and at a reasonable price.
