20 Best Toners For Black Skin (2023 Updated)

A year ago, I was struggling to find a toner to add to my skincare regimen. I searched all over Google, Youtube, and Pinterest, when I finally found this toner on google images. At that point I desperately needed a toner for my face, so I bought the Bolden toner without hesitation.

After a few use, I saw some difference in my skin. I can see the dirt and dead skin my cleanser did not completely remove, my hyper-pigmentation is slowly disappearing, and my skin looks brighter. I love this toner.

It was really hard for me during the pandemic when you guys ran out because no other toners worked. This time I’m going to buy extra so I don’t have to go through the pain again. Great product.

This is the first glycolic acid I have ever tried & it did NOT disappoint. I had heard about glycolic acid making some individuals skin burn with/after usage, so I made sure to use this product with caution.

I have NOT have that experience with this product, even at the 10% formula. This product really helped to clear the blackheads from my nose & forehead. It also made my skin soft & helped to reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation, as well as dark spots left over from breakouts.

I am sensitive to most fragrances as I have atopic dermatitis, but the fragrance in this product has not been an issue. Would definitely recommend to a friend & purchase again (& again).

So I just wanted to come back and revise my original review. I really loved it at first, but after a week or two after use, I experienced the worst cystic breakout of my life and it’s been stuck on me for a few months now.

I know what purging is like on my skin & this was not purging unfortunately. I really really really wanted to LOVE this product & I know it works for so many folks! But if you have extremely dry or sensitive skin, I would maybe consider something different.

It’s always worth a try if you feel open to it! I’m glad I could support Bolden. I just think my skin is too sensitive for this product.

Because of James Welsh, I only shop for K-beauty products when it comes to skincare. Therefore, I used his videos, as well as the internet and other Youtube videos to find a toner that would help combat my hyperpigmentation.

Yes, I do wear sunscreen everyday, which is recommended to help deal with hyperpigmentation, but my skin needed extra help. While I loved the Cosrx toner I was using, the hyperpigmentation was not settling down.

So, after stumbling upon the HaruHaru, which has this wonderful ingredient called Aspergillus Ferment which can help with hyperpigmentation from beginning to form on the skin, on several Youtube videos and reading up on the numerous positive reviews, I decided to try it.

After about 2 weeks of using it day and night, I can definitely see the transformation on my skin. Not only has the redness on my face has become less noticeable, but also my skin is a lot smoother and more hydrated.

If you don’t like a tacky finish, which this product does give, don’t worry because it goes away after applying a moisturizer. Love how it has no fragrance for my sensitive skin!.

I bought this after seeing a review comparing this and the original version and the person preferring this version. I love the original version and am not usually bothered by fragrance or alcohol in skincare, but why not use products without those ingredients if they work the same? I expected this to be similar to the original just without those irritating ingredients, so I was surprised to actually notice a difference.

First, it has some sort of pleasant scent to it It smells like it has fragrance in it, and it actually smells nicer than the original. I could barely notice any scent with the original but this is stronger; both are pleasant.

This is also slightly thicker! I love thicker toners, they are a pleasure to apply with my hands and I find them more hydrating. So this is now my favourite of the two toners, without a doubt. I’m glad I tried this version as I didn’t think the original could get any better.

This one rules! I think it’s fantastic that they made a version for those with sensitive skin, but I do wonder why they have the two options now? Is there a reason the original wasn’t simply upgraded to remove the alcohol and fragrance? Or do some people prefer to have those in their skincare.

I will have to do some research and will update if I find any answers. For now, I recommend you try this version.

Loveeeeeee rice products and I have bought so many of them (including the Haruharu WONDER – Black Rice Hyaluronic Toner and cream with lavender smell). But this one is soooooooo good. It has no Alcohol & Fragrance which was my main problem with the other Haruharu WONDER – Black Rice products.

The texture has a slight viscosity to it, but it layers well without feeling sticky or heavy. It feels deeply hydrating, absorbed quickly into my skin and it layers well with my other products. I use it in my morning and evening routine and I just love it.

If I could have a jumbo side of this one it would be sooooo great !!!!!!!!! I will definitely buy it again. Highly recommended!!!!!!!!!.

I use the toner on my face and neck after double cleansing (following The Korean double-cleansing method). The toner is clear and has a light scent. It has thick, watery, gel-like texture which is probably because the snail mucin.

It doesn’t feel sticky or slimy though. After applying, my skin feels hydrated and moisturized. I love that toner is lightweight and non-sticky, hence it absorbs quickly leaving my skin looking bright, smooth and plump.

My friend even touched my face saying that my skin was glowing. So far, I have been loving the glowing effects of this toner and plan to continue using it in the future. I have already mentioned it to my friends and family who are also looking for products with snail mucin and collagen.

⚠️Contains Fragrance⚠️ for those that are sensitive/allergies My thoughts: If you have used products with snail mucin then you’re all too familiar with that ooey, gooey goodness texture but at the same time can be very sticky.

So I was expecting the same with this product… WRONG!! I was so surprised! This does have a slight viscous consistency but feels very lightweight and sinks right into the skin. And the best part, absolutely no stickiness left behind.

It gave a nice boost of moisture to my skin and with that moisture, it did help to plump up my skin ever so slightly and temporarily but besides that, I really didn’t see any lasting results from it.

It does contain fragrance, almost like a baby powder scent. I do have sensitive skin and didn’t experience any irritation but I do prefer my skincare to be fragrance-free.

I knew Mario Badescu was a good line. I remember first hearing of it from Martha Stewart. So I’m not surprised by how good it is, but by what it achieved. I had run out of toner and bought a sample size of this.

For sometime the skin on my face felt like sandpaper. Nothing improved it from prescription retinols, peels, heavy moisturizers. Was diagnosed with rosacea and and sebhorreic dermatitis a few weeks ago, and rx’d azealex cream, which mildly improved the roughness.

Then, I bought a sample of this toner and after first use, the roughness was gone. My skin feels hydrated like it did when I was younger, upon waking from a good night’s sleep. Do you know that dewy feel? I know it’s the toner because I use it in my neck and chest, and the dewy feel extends to there.

Love this product and I can’t wait to try more of the MB line. I’m giving it a + rating for all categories but scent, which is rose. I don’t like rose scented anything, but I will continue to use this for its super effect.

Read me if you have oily skin! I use this twice a day after Mario’s enzyme gel cleanser, apply Clinique serum (clear gel with the purple pump for wrinkles and fine lines, their new product. Can’t remember the name, sorry! ), top with Bioderma “mat control” pore refiner mixed with Bioderma “mat control” mattifying moisturizer.

I’m *almost* 29 with oily T zone and pore issues, this regimen has been WONDERFUL after just FOUR DAYS. My skin stays clear, sans oily t-zone, all day in summer heat. Dermstore has a fabulous tinted sunscreen that makes my skin a mattified porcelain dream! I have struggled for years with acne, now I’m just tightening my fine lines and oily skin.

Con: This toner makes my skin smell like a 90 year old granny’s perfume. Pro: This toner makes my skin as soft as a 9 month old baby :).

As someone with oily skin, I’m not a huge fan of toner. While I do wish I could just eliminate all the oil in my face, I would like to do so in a way that doesn’t irritate my skin. I received a sample of this toner (and since it was FREE) I thought, yea why not use it and then review it.

First time I used it, my skin was red, and it burned a bit. Used it later that night and on the second application, my skin did not burn or turn red. It has no smell and is white instead of a light pink as pictured above.

Guess it’s just an average toner except it does not burn, which then in turn does not make this toner average.

My son has very sensitive skin and was prone to acne, but most acne medications dried his skin up way to much. I always use witch Hazel after cleansing my face, to remove any left over residue. So I thought, hmmm I wonder if it would help him? So to make it easier and less “girl product”, I bought a screw top reusable plastic container (the one in the photo is by Ziploc) and loaded it with a package of cotton rounds.

If you notice in the photo, I separated them and then arranged them slightly overlapping each one. This helps to remove one each time. I then liberally pour the witch Hazel onto the pads. As they soak up the liquid, you can usually get the rest of the single sleeve in there.

Make sure they are soaked through. But not leaving a puddle in the bottom of the container. Now they are great cleansing pads, but without the salicylic or benzoyl acids, that dry out the skin. The witch Hazel pads remove any left over soaps or cleansers, excess oil from sweating etc, and really do help your skin at the same time.

My son can now quickly use these pads in the morning before school, after school and before bed without his skin drying, and now his skin looks and feels great.

I was gifted this product from Bliss to review. Prior to receiving the Clear Genius Clarifying Toner + Serum, I had mainly used witch hazel or astringent type of toners. I always liked that dry but hydrated feel after using those toners so I was very curious to see how this one held up.

First, I love a product that is multi-functional, and this serum and toner combo is perfect. Second, there is still witch hazel in the toner, but the smell is very mild. Much different than my usual liquid toners.

Third, the texture is gel-like, but very soft and non-sticky. It took me a little bit to get used to the top dispensing system, but once I did it is an ingenious detail to this product. One of my favorite things about Bliss is that they seem to really consider the consumer when creating their packaging and products.

They feel very attainable and luxurious for the middle-class working person or stay-at-home parent or anything in between. Lastly, this product works! I do not have consistent breakouts, but here and there, (especially in the summer heat) I will get a pimple or two that will pop up every so often.

When that happens I use this product both morning and night and within 24-48 hours the pimple is gone! My teenage self would have bought this product in bulk had it been available in the early 2000’s.

This is a great product for acne prone skin or skin that gets breakouts here and there.

Can someone from the brand please tell me why ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL is the SECOND INGREDIENT listed on my toner? That cannot be in any way safe for the face! I am mortified that I have been spraying hand sanitizer in my face for weeks without knowing.

My face has completely broken out since I started using this product because the ALCOHOL DAMAGED MY SKIN BARRIER. Please! Someone better have an explanation for this.

i’m filipino, 25 y/o, oily in my t zone and normal everywhere else on my face, if i have breakouts they’re usually near my temples, i also weigh 115 lbs so i drink 115oz of water every day. i’ve used so many different toners (witch hazel, tatcha, proactiv, brand name to drugstore, etc.

you name it) and this is the only toner i swear by! after my face wash i spray six pumps onto a cotton round (i actually just got reusable cloth rounds!) and lightly apply all over my face, then my spf moisturizer in the morning (or use my moisturizer with no spf at night).

this toner absorbs quickly, doesn’t leave a film on my face, leaves my skin feeling fresh and clean, and gets rid of any excess sebum on my skin leaving it matte, but still feeling hydrated. i also love that there’s almost no smell to it (i hate fragrant face products!).

overall 10/10, have been using it for i think four or five years now and swear by it. will never use another toner! only downside is that it’s been getting harder and harder for me to find in drugstores or at my target store so i’ve resorted to ordering through amazon.

Speaking of the toner. I’m glad there’s no alcohol in it so I can avoid that burnt sensation after washing my face and applying the next product. Complements the cleanser really well wiping off the extra grime that i could’ve missed from the washing.

I can tell gets the job done because I actually love the soothing feeling. My face looks super refreshed and that feeling is amazing. Mattifies my skin and also helps with acne. I even believe I can use it on parts of my body like my back and shoulders since I tend to get acne/ pimples every once and a while (which I consider being so annoying) and if this product can help me with that.

this is my fav toner. i got it in a subscription box and fell in love. any time i get a pimple it’s gone by the next day after using the toner. it’s gentle on the face the little to no tingling and it smells good!.

Now that I’m pregnant I can’t use retinols and my acne scarring is starting to outpace so when I finally had no active outbreaks for a few days I used this. I am extremely sensitive to smells and they can trigger migraines, but I actually found this scent very soothing to fall asleep with.

I am being careful to not cause a purge so I am only using 2x a week but so far it feels good when I apply, it isn’t irritating my dry acne-prone skin, and it hasn’t caused a breakout. That’s better than every toner I’ve found yet.

Waiting to see dark spot lightening in a couple of weeks but so far so good. If it does I’ll be buying a bottle.

Does it work? Yes. But it requires patience and consistency. You really need to use this product consistently to see results. I’m almost through nature bottle and in my experience, you don’t notice any results for a while and then all of a sudden it seems like you just wake up and notice a difference.

One of those that sneaks up on you kind of products. Use nightly, not during the day. And don’t forget AHAs in these type of products can make your skin temporarily more sensitive during sun exposure which mean you could also see dark spots occur.

This means, just be sure to use a daily sunscreen. Otherwise, every time you use this product and don’t use sunscreen the days after, you’ve just waisted your time and money.

Been using this product for a few months now and I’ve definitely noticed it clears up my dark spots from acne a lot faster than other exfoliating acid toners I’ve tried. It also has given me a nice glow I didn’t see before using it.

However, if you are new to exfoliating acids I wouldn’t recommend this as it is very strong and could irritate skin that isn’t used to acids very quickly. They recommend using once a day but since I’ve been using acids twice a day for years I use it twice a day and notice a huge difference in the redness/size of any pimples and lightening of dark spots.

I saw many negative reviews about it causing redness right after use which is normal it happens to me often but that’s just because it’s a strong toner, the redness fades for me after about 15 min. If you’re looking for a strong exfoliating toner that helps acne/dark spots and have tried AHAs and BHAs before I would highly recommend! If you’re new to AHAs and BHAs or have never even heard of them I’d recommend something less harsh/strong like the Shea Moisture African Black Soap toner just to get your skin used to them.

Even tho I would rate it 5 stars I gave it 4 because it is not universal and excludes a group of people with really sensitive skin or skin not used to acids. Hope this helps!.

I pretty much love this toner and it’s a part of my everyday skincare routine. One major reason to love this toner is that it’s infused with Hyaluronic Acid. It also contains witch hazel and Aloe which always works wonders on the skin.

I have normal skin, sometimes oily on my forehead and nose. However, this would be great for sensitive skin as well. I bought this to use at night after I cleanse my face. I love how refreshing it is and the smell is light and airy, very clean.

It makes my skin look and feel so clean. I use the Supertone Toner in the morning, and this one as a great compliment to my nighttime skincare routine. I follow up with the Holy Hydration Moisturizer and the moisturizing drops, as well as the Holy Hydration Eye Cream.

Basically my whole nighttime skincare is now ELF. The prices are incredible for such amazing products. I was using more expensive skincare, but why pay the money if ELF is doing just as an amazing job? I also only use cruelty free, and ELF Is the best you get for the money.

The SheaMousture African black soap for blemish prone skin line is my favorite drug store acne products. I own the facewash, the wipes, the mask the toner. I’ve done reviews for almost all of them, now I’m gonna tackle what I love about this toner.

The toner is made with: African Black Soap, tamarind and tea tree oil. The African black soap is an all nautral remidy for acne prone skin, the tamarind extract is nature’s astringent and brightens skin and last but not least the tea tree oil.

most people who are into all natural acne solutions know that tea tree oil reduces the appearance of breakouts. I love this toner because it’s all natural and it WORKS. there’s no synthetic coloring no mineral oil in this toner.

This toner is the drug store Holy Grail of toners for problematic skin. It manages your oil and “shininess” all day without drying your skin out. It purifies your skin, removing left over makeup. Refines large pores leaves a matte finish to your natural skin (even before make up) This toner has worked wonders for me.

I’ve been using it for a year, was hooked in 2 days, and saw dramatic results in a week. If you have acne and you’re looking for a toner, this is it.

Bought this brand after I used a different one that caused my pores more problems than before. After a week the irritated pores started to heal an go back to normal. There’s still a good bit of damage that needs to heal but I feel I’m on the right track.

I switch between the African black soap an the daily hydration. I bought 9 products with in the brand an my skin seems to love all of them. Not to mention it smells so good. Very happy an ready to purchase more from them.

Hands down my favorite toner. This should not even be called a ‘toner’ as it is in its separate category. It is hydrating, not stingy feeling, refreshing, light, potent, effective, and easy to use. I tend to use this without a cotton pad if I want a light splash in the mornings.

For days where I have makeup on or I had a heavy sweaty gym session I would use a cotton pad and then this toner – it removes all the grime off your skin. Again, perfect for my sensitive skin. No redness, no rash, non side effects.

The smell is refreshing, nothing too strong or toxic/chemically. The ingredients are superb as I can feel an immediate positive effect afterwards. I wish this came in two sizes so I could travel with this bottle in my carry on, not a small travel size but a nice 3 oz size bottle would be sufficient.

This is one of my most favorite products, and a basic part of my skincare routine! Acwell’s Licorice pH Balancing Cleansing Toner is such an important part of my skincare routine that if I don’t use it, I can feel the difference in my skin! After I wash my face, this is the very first product that I apply.

The Acwell toner provides moisture and is a great base for my other skincare products. It keeps my skin soft and supple. I don’t use a cotton pad to apply, but just use my fingers to gently pat into my skin.

It is made with quality ingredients that my sensitive skin gladly accepts–no breakouts–and I have been using this product for at least a handful of years. Highly recommended for every skin type, and the price point is affordable, too! I would consider this product a must-have toner that is great under other products, and keeps skin supple, holding in moisture–and it’s affordable! I will keep purchasing this product!!!.

I can only comment about the texture of the serum. I personally did not experience any significant results. But I think the sample I got was too small. Overall it’s a nice serum with a good texture.

It wears well and can be layered with sunscreen. It also goes well under makeup. The serum is moisturizing, tightening and absorbs well too! Overall a great product.

This was my first experience with the TONYMOLY brand and I’ve been a huge fan every since. They have a lot of cute products in a lower price range, a lot of which I feel might be better suited to younger skincare needs, but the Black Tea London Classic line definitely kicks it up several notches with sophisticated ingredients and style.

I recieved this serum as a sample in my Ipsy bag and I was very excited as I had just started experimenting with serums, and I’ve compared every other serum to it since. The first thing I noticed is the very clean, fresh and gentle fragrance I enjoyed tremendously.

I was using this serum in the late winter/ early spring months when the weather is still crisp and drying, it brought life back to my face. Within a few days I noticed a brighter complexion, plumper and dewy.

Over time it nourished my skin and replenished it, and within a few weeks I started see a subtley younger version of myself. I don’t have a big problem with wrinkles yet, but my skin did have signs of stress and looked generally dull and tired.

This serum erased all of that. Absorbs nicely. I used on my face, neck, and decolletage. I loved how soothing and hydrating it was. Left my skin softer. Would definitely recommend to anyone who needs their skin brought back to life.

🍃 Contains notable ingredients such as camellia sinensis leaf extract, niacinamide, and tea tree leaf oil 🍃Since it is an emulsion, it has the consistency of a serum, but works like a moisturizer. For my oily skin, this was perfect as it sinks right into the skin.

For those with dry skin, emulsion alone may not be moisturizing enough. I recommend layering a separate moisturizer on top. 🍃 I actually really enjoyed using this moisturizer! Especially with all the goodies in it, I don’t have to worry about using a separate serum.

🍃As far as any significant changes go, I have yet to see any. To be fair, it takes weeks to months before any actual results shows with using any skincare products. Overall, I am happy to add this is baddie to my skincare routine.

Pros: It’s very moisturising, doesn’t clog pores or break me out, smells nice, if combined with a light moisturiser makes your skin look good all day. Cons: It has a slightly heavier consistency and leaves a residue on the skin.

This means that you cannot combine it with anything containing dimethicone (e. g. primers) or you will create a very unattractive, thick layer on your skin which will separate in a few hours. Not a pretty look.

Also, fragrance is not good for your skin (there’s lots of research behind it) and this product seems quite heavy on it.

Too much fragrance , just an ordinary lotion as far as I’m concern . The hype over snail mucin is overrated .
