20 Best Toner For Dark Skin (2023 Updated)

Humphreys Witch Hazel Toner with Grapefruit has some good things going on, but ultimately is not a product I feel comfortable recommending. My collective thoughts are at the bottom, but I want to talk about the good and the bad first.

The Good: The toner is silicone, paraben, dye, phthalate, gluten, and sulfate-free. It’s also vegan and cruelty-free. I love that the second ingredient is niacinamide (vitamin B3). It’s a phenomenal skin-restoring ingredient that helps with uneven skin, fine lines, enlarged pores, and more.

Aloe is another good ingredient that helps soothe and hydrate. The last good ingredient in here is glycerin, which is a wonderfully hydrating and skin-replenishing ingredient. However, that is the actual last ingredient in this product, meaning its concentration here is too low to make a difference.

I also like way it’s sealed when you first open it. The Bad: This toner is filled with skin-sensitizing ingredients. Witch hazel is the #1 ingredient here. While it can have antioxidants and be soothing, it has a high tannin content that can sensitize the skin with repetitive use.

The toner says it’s alcohol-free, but when distilling witch hazel alcohol gets added to it. Humphreys might use a different process to do this, but this is the standard way. Sadly, it also includes tea tree and grapefruit extracts, along with more grapefruit added for fragrance.

All of these are extremely sensitizing and not beneficial enough to be added in. In short: While I love the inclusion of niacinamide at such a high concentration, there are too many fragrant irritating ingredients in this product for me to feel comfortable adding it to my daily routine.

I am not familiar with witch hazel based products outside of how great I’ve heard they are, so I was excited to try this product. I have combo skin now that I’ve moved to Illinois and I definitely get some dry patches in the winter months on my forehead and cheeks.

I was hoping this would be a great, clean alternative to a skin soothing product I use. The product component is attractive yet simple – a colorful label with an engraved wooden top that is both elegant and matches the earthy, natural product ingredients.

I also LOVE what they did with the inside of the bottle- the printed label that shows a scenic display throughout the insides of the bottle was genius. Inside I appreciate that they included a pre-poked hole in the seal to help ease product out – but you can still remove it entirely if you’d like.

I love that I can read and understand what’s in the formula, though The fragrance does not spell entirely like natural grapefruit. I’m wondering if maybe the witch hazel scent distorts it a little – my nose reads it as slightly chemical when applied.

In terms of application I don’t find this turns my skin red when applied and it does feel like it’s doing something, but I feel like it also dries out my skin a bit. I used this for several days and then swapped back to my Laneige toner and instantly noticed a difference in how moisturized my skin felt.

I don’t know that the dryness was enough that I noticed my makeup applying differently but my face would feel tight for the first 5 minutes after use. and sometimes my dry patches would tingle a bit.

Overall I think this is an ok product and I love that it’s clean but it’s unfortunately not going to be a staple in my skincare routine. I think I need something a little more moisturizing.

Humphreys recharge Witch hazel with grapefruit alcohol free toner is the first toner I tried which has- *witch hazel *grapefruit *no alcohol I wasn’t sure what to expect from it. I was impressed with its label information.

It’s works wonder with with skin I use it once a day. I’ve a sensitive skin, so far no rashes or breakouts on my skin while using this product. I did a patch test on my skin before using it on my face neck.

It’s clean refreshes my skin. After using it thankfully my skin feels no tingling or stinging sensation or redness that used to happen with me after using certain products in the past. ( especially during my teenager days, it was of course long time back, but some “stinging” “astringent” memories sure riled up!) *The smell is pleasant not overpowering very subtle tones.

It won’t linger on after a minute or two. *Last but not least, I love its wooden cap, love the packaging you can see the wild forests glimpse inside the bottle. How to use toner- Few tips- After cleansing/washing your face, Toner needs to be applied before using moisturizers, SPF or serums.

Toner is supposed to help to balance the ph level of the skin, nowadays we see toner for all kind of skincare from hydration to toner that comes with glycolic salicylic acids for oily skin. You can choose them as per your skin needs.

Pro-tip- always do a patch test on small portion of your skin before using/trying any new products. This is the best way to make sure you don’t have any adverse reaction to that product or with any product ingredient.

I’ve been using this toner for about 4 months now and I don’t see myself ever using a different type of toner. I have a health condition that can really dry out my skin, and when that happens it makes my skin so much more hydrated and I feel so much more comfortable.

During the months where my skin tends to go more to the oily side, I feel like my skin is still very well balanced. The ingredients like glycolic acid, hyaluronic acid, and pycnogenol are amazing. Different parts of this contributes different benefits; Exfoliating, hydrating, anti-inflammatory, reduces redness, prevents UV ray damage and UVB wrinkles, and reduces melasma.

It definitely smells like rose/botanical, but the smell becomes less and less noticeable with time regardless of how you feel about it (I’m personally totally fine with how it smells). I’d personally recommend this toner for people who are trying to prevent aging and are aiming to balance their skin hydration.

Anyone who has more irritated or inflamed skin may also benefit from using this. If your skin is super sensitive, you may want to have another toner on standby, but this has so many soothing agents in it I think you’ll be fine.

This is my 3rd bottle. The first bottle was great and smelled so nice! The second bottle smelled a little off, slightly like vinegar. I know every now and then a batch can be off, so I continued to use some of it before tossing the rest.

The next toner I bought was the anti-wrinkle toner with the red lid – absolutely wonderful!! Worked well, my skin was so clear and bright. Recently, I ran out and went to buy more of the anti-wrinkle toner, but couldn’t find it anywhere on the site.

I ended up trying the radiance toner again, hoping it was back to the quality of the original bottle I bought – sadly, it’s not. Still smells slightly vinegary, which is very disappointing because all my other products from DermaE are excellent.

I won’t be buying this one again, now trying to decide whether to toss it or what.

Note: My first bottle of this toner was free in exchange for social media posts. Since then, I have bought it twice. I’m almost done with my second bottle, which is why I had to buy the Essentials Radiance Toner again.

I have sensitive skin, but I worked my way up to using this daily. Initially I didn’t apply it over the most sensitive parts of my face, and I immediately rinsed my face after using this toner. This was more of a precaution since I never had a reaction.

Now I use it as part of my evening skincare routine. After cleansing my face (usually with the DERMA E CBD cleanser), I pat it dry, and then I apply this with a reusable cotton pad. I let my skin air dry for about a minute before continuing with my routine.

I love how my skin feels and how it looks. Most acids are too strong for my skin, but I’ve never had an issue with this one.

The BEST hydrating / repairing toner I have ever used. The ONLY toner I will ever use again. I used to think toners were a beauty industry gimmick, another step in our routine to waste money on. However, in the past few years I have jumped on board with toners, hydrating toners specifically, and I’ve tried many of them.

This advanced replenishing toner adds nourishment and hydration to the skin. It is formulated with hyaluronic acid, fatty acids, and antioxidants to replenish the skin. And formulated WITHOUT fragrance and drying alcohols, exactly what I look for in a toner.

This toner is a milky texture, a little more viscous than some other toners I have tried (Fresh rose hydration toner or Murad hydrating toner), but not heavy on the skin. This leaves my skin feeling soothed and supple.

After cleansing, I soak a cotton pad with product and swipe it across my skin. If my skin is in need of extra love, I will pour toner into my hands and pat it into my skin for extra hydration. (I cringe when I hear people say that a toner will remove any left over makeup/gunk.

If your cleanser is not removing EVERYTHING from your face, then you need a new cleanser or double cleanse). Basically a “liquid moisturizer”, this replenishing toner has saved my skin. I absolutely recommend this toner, it will benefit anyone and everyone: dry skin for nourishment, sensitive skin because its gentle, or oil skin to balance out.

A 4 oz bottle for $24, a good price for a product with great ingredients. (I’ve tried other expensive toners that didn’t nourish my skin as much).

I was so excited to receive a free sample of this from Influenster and Charlotte Tilbury since I love her brand and never let myself splurge on it and was grateful to be selected to give my honest opinion.

The very first thing I noticed was the very strong scent, which made me very nervous because I know my skin reacts to overly perfumed products. It took me a few uses to place what the scent is and finally realized it is very strong but pleasant rose botanical scent that I actually like it but am sure it would bother anyone who doesn’t like roses or scented facial products.

It has a very watery texture and I put a couple splashed in my hand then rub onto my clean face at night. It instantly makes your skin feel velvety – not necessarily moisturized but definitely a nice luxurious texture.

I did try it in the morning prior to putting on makeup but didn’t like the way it reacted with my foundation so mostly used it at night. The issue I had with the toner is that it caused my skin to break out, both in the little red dots I get from irritation and several random blemishes that I almost never get.

I took several days off from using it and tried it again and yup got another blemish almost instantly. I was so disappointed because I really wanted to love this and be able to use it daily but it isn’t worth the skin reaction for me.

I do have sensitive skin and am betting it reacted to the fragrance but I can’t be sure. I am sure it would work great for anyone who doesn’t have sensitive blemish prone skin and they would enjoy the way it leaves your face feeling soft and pampered but unfortunately it is not for me.

So it’s been good one month since I have been using this exfoliating toner. I admit I never liked toner before this product. I found toners irritating and uncomfortable for my skin. So I was very skeptical about this one.

I first used it with cleansing pad and then with cotton swab. I was seeing that it gets so quickly absorbed in them. So I decided to use it with my fingers and pressing on the skin. I liked that results are better that way and you are not wasting the product.

Some people might find the smell disturbing but I like the faint flowery smell. Smells like roses to me. It sure leaves the skin plumped and creates a very good ground for serum and moisturizer. I feel quite addicted to it.

I think my skin looks healthier and pores smaller. It is little pricey but lasts a very long time. I use it twice a day or if I wash my face in between, I use it again. This has become my routine now and I will be buying this product.

I recommend it. Adding a picture without makeup in daylight for review.

This toner has a thicker milky consistency that is actually very soothing on my face, I’ve been applying it twice a day for over a month and overall, it’s a good toner for my oily combination skin. I like that it goes on smoothly and instantly mattifies my face.

Over time, I noticed that I had brightened clear skin that looked good without makeup. The only reason I removed a star is because I didn’t enjoy the slight tingly feeling right after application, and I also struggled to find products that played nicely with this toner.

While it may be acid-free, I had to treat it as an acid to prevent any irritation or negative side effects. Would still recommend!.

This is incredible. I bought this during the sale and I am blown away. This toner is potent. If you’ve ever used the Tarte tingling toner, this feels very similar and gives you the same degree of exfoliation for less cost and less tingle.

I love this! Zits on my jaw have pretty much flattened completely over night. The glow this gives you is like nothing else. This can and probably will dry your face, so I recommend using a good moisturizer afterwards.

But if you are a skincare enthusiast or love acid toners, try this out! It’s wonderful. It does smell slightly like vinegar, but it’s not offsetting and disappears on application. Stop being skeptical of these other reviews!!! Read the ingredients list and do your own research.

These ingredients are fantastic and the formulation is phenomenal. I have used this and fallen in love in a short amount of time. Try it out and your skin will thank you!.

I’m not gonna lie, this toner doesn’t smell that great. A little like vinegar, since it doesn’t contain unnecessary added fragrance (which I love that it doesn’t). BUT it does work really well, and the scent doesn’t linger.

I wish I had taken a picture of my skin before I started using this, because it’s made such a difference. It’s helped get rid of stubborn acne scars, dark spots, and made my skin tone much more even.

Using it every other night has seemed to help with how oily my skin is during the day as well. Definitely recommend.
