20 Best Tomatoes For Spaghetti Sauce (2023 Updated)

Coming from an Italian family: Muir Glen products including the crushed tomatoes are the best. When I couldn’t find my normal brand during the pandemic, I asked my mom, who has been making sauce for more more years than I, if Muir Glen was good.

She said it’s EXCELLENT. So, with that, I bought some and this is my preferred brand. It is The Best for sauce, stews, soups, etc. (Now if only my Target would stock the whole line and keep it stocked, I would be so happy.

) If you can find it, buy it, and may I also say Target curbside is an excellent and easy way to get it.

I ordered 6 of these, as I have difficulty finding “no salt added” products locally. Unfortunately, every single one of these cans arrived dented. Since it is not recommended to consume food from dented cans, they went into the garbage.

I requested a replacement, 1 of the replacement cans was also dented. My order (including other items) was very poorly packaged, as was the replacement order. There were a couple of pieces of bubble wrap thrown into the flimsy box with the cans, but the cans were free to roll around and bump up against each other during shipment.

The bubble wrap provided no protection whatsoever. Other items in the shipment were damaged as well. I will not be ordering anything that is not totally indestructable frrom Target again.

I have had two very negative experiences with Muir Glen whole tomatoes. The first was finding a rotten black tomato in the can. I wrote to the company about their quality control, but they apparently didn’t do much about it.

A month or so later, I opened a can of whole tomatoes — and it was nothing but tomato juice. There wasn’t a single tomato in the can. I use a lot of canned tomatoes, but this has never happened to me in over 70 years.

Again I wrote to the company, but I don’t expect any improvement. These examples speak to a serious flaw in Muir Glen’s quality control, or their processing methods. Anyway, I’m done with them and will stick to organic Cento San Martino tomatoes from now on.

For someone that lives alone, like me, I don’t have to make big batches of sauce. This smaller can is best for my needs and I have always trusted Contadina to give me good quality. Just add, Italian seasonings, a shakerful of Parmesan cheese and you have spaghetti sauce or anything else Italian.

I have used the Mrs Wages salsa seasoning and liked it. The pasta version not so much. It is way too salty for me. It called for 6 pounds of tomatoes but I think 12 pounds might have been needed to dilute the salt content.

I’ll make do by not adding any salt to the pasta water or the meatballs, maybe that will even things out. Disappointing that I wasted 6 pounds of garden tomatoes on this.

This pasta sauce was perfect. We had a bumper crop of tomatoes and I had always wanted to can sauce before but put it off. After reviewing the Mrs. Wages products on Blain’s site I opted to give it a try.

I am so glad that I ordered 2 packs. We love the taste of it.

I was skeptical to try this pasta sauce mix. I wanted to do one from scratch, but thought what the heck, I’ll try it. To my surprise and amazement, the sauce is delicious. I made some pasta for my grand kids using this sauce, and they loved it.

So did my husband. Because it was so good, I also canned the pizza sauce. It smells heavenly. Glad I tried it. It’s a keeper.

If I can give a 0 star. I would. Because this sauce is an absolute monstrosity. It looks good from the outside but once you open it, it smells horrid. I decide to try it anyways because I thought mayyybe it won’t be as bad.

Biggest mistake. It was so gooey and lumpy I couldn’t even take it out of the jar. Once it got into the hot pan it wouldn’t even melt into a creamy sauce so I have to put a splash of water in it to loosen it up.

Don’t even get me started with the taste that I can’t even describe. It made my pasta and broccoli taste like sour milk. I was gagging. I was really excited about this sauce because most Alfredo sauces contains sherry wine and I can’t consume alcohol because I am a Muslim.

I think vegan “chefs” need to stop creating these “alfredo” sauces. My Sicilian ancestors are rolling in their graves because of this blob of abomination.

The flavor of the sauce was good after adding my own seasonings like basil, onion & garlic powder, & Cajun seasoning with a bit of fresh lemon juice. I tried to make it the way I would make my regular dairy Alfredo sauce, but the flavors were definitely much different.

It would’ve been fine because the flavors were still good, but when I opened the jar to pour some—emphasis on SOME—of the sauce into my pan, the entire jar plopped out. Like a can of slime. Super disgusting to look at.

I added some pasta water to thin it out which worked, but when it started cooling down as I was eating, the texture became gummy again. I think it may have to do with the tapioca thickener used since thats what they use in vegan gummy vitamins.

If they could figure out the right consistency then it’d be pretty good. Not worth 9$ though.

I bought the No-Dairy Alfredo sauce and cooked some penne and broccoli with it. I thought that it had a good consistency for a non-dairy product and I was impressed with it, but I did thin it a little bit with some milk so that it would incorporate better with the pasta itself.

I tried some of the sauce plain as well. It was delightfully creamy, with a strong lemon flavor and undertones of pepper, and it had a slightly cheesy flavor (likely from the combination of cashew and nutritional yeast).

I did think that it was a little too lemony, but figured that adding it to pasta would make it a more appropriate level of lemony. It was still delightfully creamy and the slightest bit cheesy with the pasta, but the flavor of the black pepper disappeared (which I was a little disappointed with and solved by cracking some black pepper over the top) and the lemon flavor was still a little too strong, even with the pasta and broccoli.

Overall, this was a delightful no-dairy alternative and I would buy it again for a special occasion. I prefer no-dairy alfredo to regular alfredo because it doesn’t feel as heavy or as rich after you consume it, but it is still appropriately creamy.

I think ideally this specific sauce should be served in a pasta or dish with lots of vegetables to really pair well with the creaminess and the lemon flavor – maybe as the sauce in a pasta primavera or with zucchini noodles.

The only real detractor for me is that strong lemon flavor – I do like lemon in my food, but this was overkill for me. I would still recommend this to my friends with that caveat because this is a non-dairy alternative that I liked quite a bit.

This is THE crushed tomato brand for making your own sauce. There is not a canned flavor, nor does it taste like tomato paste like some other brands. Definitely recommend.

Excellent product for breakfast. I layer slices of cheese on base of dish. Heat up the hoops in a saucepan and pour into dish on top of cheese. The heat melts the cheese. A low calorie breakfast that is filling (need to calorie count cheese of course).

Iceland price is always very competitive, and Heinz spaghetti hoops are often on offer.

Bought a couple of cans recently and have not had this for years. It’s really yummy over some hot buttered toast with a little grated cheddar cheese on top. It tastes exactly how I remember. There’s quite a lot of sauce so I think this would also be nice with some mashed potato, baby potatoes or even chips to make the meal more substantial.

If you’re expecting the spaghetti to be al dente then you will be disappointed as it is really soft. I think this is a little expensive but it’s okay if on offer.

Given that it’s a cheap tinned meal, I will review it as such. After all, where could you get a restaurant quality meal for under £1? Wow! What a difference. A few years ago Heinz made the HUGE mistake of changing the flavour of most of their tinned produce.

Like most, I was so put off that I stopped buying them. This was a ‘replacement item’ in my delivery (nothing like the original item), so I decided to give it a go. I heated it in the microwave, added some black pepper and grated cheese melted over the top.

I was surprised to find that it made a really enjoyable lunch. The taste of this product is now very close to that which I remember from my Uni days (poor students), several years ago now. Fingers crossed that Heinz do the same for all of their other tinned meals/snacks.

Just tried this and really not impressed. No complexity and acidic. One user rated it 5 stars and mentioned using it as a base for adding spices to make it better. It probably would work for that, but I want a pasta sauce that tastes great out of the can.

Otherwise I would just buy tomato sauce and make my own. Do yourself a favor and skip this one. For little bit more per serving more you could get something like Barilla. And the Great Value varieties are pretty good too if you want to save a little money and get a pasta sauce that is palatable.

This sauce is similar to the sauce used in canned spaghetti-os or canned ravioli. Very underwhelming and blah. Cans received dented and damaged (with no damage to the shipping box) and with early expiration date.

These may have been sitting in a warehouse for a while. Thanks Walmart. The only thing good about this pasta sauce purchase was the price. Also not sure how this sauce has such high sodium yet be so bland, bitter and tasteless.

#Del Monte pizza sauce has a #pretty good flavor to it. I really love the flavor of it when l add #extra spices to it to give it even more #flavor. This sauce #helps make really good home made #pizza.

OMG this sauce is my new favorite. It’s exactly what I’ve been looking for, a light sauce full of flavor. I must confess that I’ve doctored it up but just a tad to adapt it to my palate nowhere near to what I’ve done to the other brands of sauce.

I won’t go back to anything else, I’m fully committed to this brand.

I like this sauce because of the consistency (not to watery and not too thick). It is flavoursome and great for arrabbiata dishes. I have been buying this one (and also the other ones: veg, basilico, olive and parmigiano-reggiano) for a while elsewhere and was pleasantly surprised that ASDA has some of them now and at a lower price than what I have been paying.

I will definitely continue to purchase these sauces as I really like the taste.

Mutti produce great tomato products and if you ask any Italian. they will give their approval. It’s great that ASDA has started stocking these three sauces, fingers crossed they will stock some tinned tomatoes which are equally phenomenal.

The olive sauce has such a great amount of green and black olives and the base sauce is lacking the awful metallic tang that all too frequently comes with a premade sauce. I’ve been using it on pasta but it also makes a fantastic base for homemade pizza.

I usually make sauces from scratch but this is the best ready made one. Has a great chilli kick and fresh taste, unlike others jars. A real taste of Italy. Highly recommend

Classico pasta sauce is flavorful and very affordable. Definitely a step up from generic brand pasta sauce. I use this to whip up a quick spaghetti and meatball dinner. It’s also good to pour over your favorite ravoli.

It has a smooth consistency which is my preference.

Meh. It’s vegetarian which could be good for some but I prefer meat in the pasta sauce. It’s not terrible but homemade is much better. Slightly bland but good for when you need sauce and don’t have the time or ingredients to make it from scratch.

cook sausage until done, pour Classico pasta sauce, pour sour cream and cream cheese. will come to a rolling boil. mix together well. pour cooked pasta into mixture. mix until pasta is completely covered.

pour mixture into casserole dish, top with shredded chees. bake at 375 for 30 minutes or until cheese is melted. serves an army!.
