I am on a septic tank system. It had gotten to the point when it rained a smell was coming up out of the bathtub drain as well as the washing machine. Our washer and dryer is set up in the hall bathroom by the tub that had the smell.

These pipes were connected hence the smell coming from the washer too. I had read that someone had a similar issue and they used this and it got rid of the smell. I used this in the tub and in the pipeline from the washer.

It was easy enough to use. Cap came off easily, poured down the drain without a mess. No smell. It foamed a lot and overflowed out of the drain, but when I checked back in an hour, it was completely gone.

I poured a couple kettles of boiling water down and assumed everything worked perfectly. The next day, I realized it was draining even slower than before when I was showering. Now I have to let my landlord deal with it which I was trying to avoid.

I’ve never written a review. For anything. Ever. I’m writing this review of Zep 10 min Hair Clog Remover because it really works. I have long curly hair that sheds constantly. Anytime I wash it, I try to catch it before it goes into the tub, but I still end up with clogs.

I’ve been able to snake the drain before, but this time was a no go. I read the other reviews and thought I’d try the Zep product. Ok, it works, but with caveats. For my particular clog, I used 1 bottle and let it set for 30 minutes as the directions suggested. Didn’t clear the clog. Fortunately, I bought 2 bottles, so I poured it out and let it set for an hour.

Cleared the clog! Maybe if I had just let the first bottle set for an hour it would have worked? Who knows. My advice for severe clogs is to let it set for at least an hour before flushing with hot water.

I can’t emphasize this enough – READ and follow the directions. I used it in our tub that was draining very slowly. I first removed all the hair gunk I could reach with a pair of twizzers then slowly poured in half the bottle.

I let it set 30 minutes then rinsed it with HOT water for about 2-3 minutes. Drain now works good as new. Just remember that there are clogs that may be impossible to remedy without a licensed plumber.

It happens so have reasonable expectations. This works on “regular” hair clogs that have accumulated over a few years. Clogs caused by other stuff such as grease or foreign objects may not respond. The clog could also be in a location that Drano may not be able to reach.

I have tried several methods such as the usual drain opener gels and liquids, even strong chemicals like lye. They only helped increase the flow a bit but not clear up fully. I think because if the clog is somewhere in the line instead of the U trap, the chemicals don’t effectively get a chance to remove the partially clogged slow drain pipe.

I was able to clear my slow drainpipe which is a common drain line for my dish-washer and clothes-washer. My problems started with slow draining which sometimes caused the water to spill out of the laundry drain standpipe hookup during large surges of water drained from the appliances.

I put a small amount in the bathroom sink, and in the tub, then waited until until I saw the water rumbling. The smell isn’t as bad as other brands which I’ve used in the past. The water started to drain slowly.

This chemical requires water to work but don’t use too much water or it will get diluted. After a few minutes I added a little more, and used my air powered drain cleaning tool to completely clear the line.

Run the water for a few minutes after it’s unclogged so that it will purge any debris which is left in the line.
