20 Best Tablet For Ebook Readers (2023 Updated)

I bought this as I wanted to see what the new touch-screen, back-lit Kindles were like. I’ve had a Kindle 4 (with buttons) for many, many years and love it. Although this Paperwhite is a very nice machine, and I do like it, Amazon have really messed it up! On my other Kindle I’ve always used Calibre to look after my ebook collection, creating book collections and series which get transferred to the Kindle 4 making it easy to negotiate my large library.

Amazon, in their infinite wisdom, have locked down the Paperwhite so that the Collections plugin in Calibre can no longer create them on the Paperwhite! The Paperwhite just shows pages and pages of book covers making it difficult to find the one you want.

In conclusion, the Paperwhite in a very nice ebook reader, just keep a small selection of books on it at a time.

I read a heap of books, and my Kindles get a hammering, I take them wherever I go, use and abuse them, and here I am coming back to get my next one! I needed a new one because the previous version wasn’t charging properly (apparently the USB ports can be repaired – but it’s probably more expensive to do that than simply replace it).

This version has more memory, a slightly different screen that’s seamless with the cover, and offers the usual excellent paperwhite screen with backlight. It’s waterproof to splashes and possible a bit of rain but I wouldn’t be testing it in the bath or spa.

It’s the same size as previous versions, and the controls are pretty similar as well. It definitely charges, and holds its charge, far better than my late, great and now retired one! If you’re a Kindle user, it’s worth it.

If you’re not and you read a lot – despite being limited to Amazon books (with some exceptions), it’s so much easier to carry one of these when travelling than a bag full of heavy books, just do it already.

Being able to enlarge the print, use reverse lighting (ie white letters on black background) in the dark so as not to annoy your sleep partner, and adjust font to what suits you makes this very useable.

My stepmom bought me one of these last November for my birthday, since I enjoy reading from time to time. Its mostly a good product. I enjoy using mine. It does, however, have a few inconveniences. But, I’d say, overall, it’s a good product.

Kindles are so underrated. I understand the value in reading ‘book books’; and continue to read ‘book books’, but Kindle is in many ways a better reading experience. People seem to think that reading on a kindle is the same as reading on an iPad or iPhone.

It’s not. iPads and iPhones are great devices, but they are not specifically designed to function as a digital book. For one thing, the battery life on the kindle is many times greater than my iPhone 8 or iPad mini 4.

Kindles are designed to be anti glare, too. Kindles are also better than big ‘book books’, because they are lighter and can slip into any backpack without feeling weighed down like you would had you brought your 1000 page tome to work.

In fact, I’ve read, you can carry 1000s of books on a Kindle. Kindles give you access to books which are cheaper than in the bookstore, but more expensive than charity stores or libraries. They also give you access to a greater range of books than in the bookstore, with all of Amazon’s library at your fingertips (e.

g. self published works). One more feature which is great about kindle is the dictionary which can be used offline (simply by highlighting a word) and Wikipedia, which can be used while connected to wifi.

For anyone who reads books or wants to start reading books, I would highly suggest purchasing a kindle.

I purchased my kindle on sale and I love it. It’s small, lightweight, portable, and comfortable to hold for long reading sessions. I really wanted an e-reader but didn’t want to spend $140+ on the paperwhite.

While this one isn’t waterproof, I don’t anticipate reading in the rain or bath. One downside is that the backlight doesn’t have an option to adjust the warmth, so reading in low light sometimes isn’t the best experience.

This version also doesn’t have a dark mode option to invert the text and background color. Those details aside, I really like this product. Hopefully in a few years the baseline kindle model adds warmth to its backlight.

I used this eReader years ago when I was an avid reader. Now sad to say I just don’t read books any more, as you can see by the no battery on it. I loved it when I used it. It shows all your books. It has a huge selection of reading material, especially if you have a kindle unlimited subscription.

You can adjust letter size, change lighting. The battery lasts awhile. That’s just the older one, I’m sure the newer version is even better. If you read a lot and don’t want to fuss with physical books or don’t have time to go to the book store this might be for you.

Please it’s nice and thin, you can always take it with you if you have appointments where you have to wait.

It is VERY hard to go from an iPad, iPhone, Fire tablet, Android device, Switch, WHATEVER. to a Kindle. It’s hard for me as an adult, and hard for my 7-year-old. It’s slow. The touch screen is at times not sensitive ENOUGH, sometimes OVERLY sensitive.

It’s not intuitive. Getting books onto it via Libby or age-appropriate Kindle Unlimited was a chore to grasp. HOWEVER, once you accept it for what it is; a reader that’s easy on the eyes and gives you access to 1000s of books at once, instead of lugging two or three in your bag while you’re traveling.

It’s better to read on than an iPad or iPhone (note: graphic novels are NOT worth reading on a Kindle, stick to a tablet).

Learning curve to figure it out. I’m still trying to figure it out. However, I like the matte paper white. I feel like I could read on this better than my phone. My son loves it and especially audible option to listen to stories.

We like as parents how it’s NOT games/watching tv on our car rides. Less backseat fights with siblings. Works with wireless headphones.

You better believe I jumped on this deal. Same as the standard 8GB version with absolutely NO ADS at a low low $120. The reading experience is quicker on this than my 2018 paperwhite. My last one got noticeably laggy.

I am loving it so far. The warm light is comforting to use. Don’t know if it does anything but it is the little things that count.

This is probably the best Kindle for just reading – less distracting than a Kindle Fire (which I also own), and lighter to hold. Nicely backlit, smooth page turns, plenty of memory for lots of books, responsive touch screen, fast Wi-Fi connectivity for syncing with other devices.

The screen is clear and very readable. The auto-brightness feature is very nice. The screen size is slightly larger than earlier Paperwhite devices so a bit more text fits on the screen – it seems more natural than previous Paperwhites, more like a paper back book.

It claims to be water resistant but I have not had need to test this. I use it without a cover and it has been rugged for travel. A charge will last a VERY long time, so it’s perfect to load up with books for an off-grid vacation.

Cordless charging works as expected, and the C port is a welcome upgrade – no more fussing with which way the cord goes in. I’ve not used the Bluetooth feature for listing to audio books. It’s a nice touch but it’s far easier to use my phone for this.

Downside – They put the power button on the button, and every so often you’ll turn off the device unintentionally if it’s resting on a table. It IS pricey but I expect this will last for quite awhile – my first paperwhite did.

I have owned a nook and 5 different kindles and an ipad. I was very hesitant to buy another kindle. Initially, i wanted something to take to the beach but could never see in the bright sun. Then speed, then sizing, always disappointed.

Then I came across Kristina Braly’s review on Youtube. I jumped in and WOW. Im reading in bright sunlight. Perfect size for holding and reading, i love the book cover is displayed at sleep. Charges great with my kindle fabric case on.

The one complaint i came across was the power button on the bottom. I read at bed time laying down with my kindle on my chest and It has not powered off once but i do have a case on mine, however, it is not protected or covered by my case at all.

I gave all my previous kindles away and am highly satisfied with this one.

Definitely worth every penny! I started using the kindle app on my iPhone and iPad. That was working great and all but it was draining battery fast on both of them. Decided to pick up a kindle and was debating between this one and the Oasis.

I’m happy that I got this one. Pros: 1. Battery life is phenomenal! Especially if you have the device in airplane mode. 2. Lightweight and portable. 3. Screen has tons of options in brightness and warmth.

4. The 32GB is a huge plus if you listen to audiobooks. 5. Syncing pages is quick and easy. Cons: 1. Typing on it can be quite slow. If you like to annotate, it could take a bit to get used to if you’re coming from a tablet.

I’ll usually just highlight and then write notes on my tablet or phone. 2. Screen glare is not too bad but it is quite noticeable in some lighting conditions. Overall, I definitely recommend this product.

I was getting a good deal when I purchased this at 50% off. Since summer vacations were around I subscribed for unlimited reading from prime thinking my child can read as much. However it’s very disappointing to see that most books that she adds gives a message that it is incompatible with this reader.

Why is this product being sold even if the books that we can read are not compatible on Amazon’s.

My son loves to read, but we ran out of books during the pandemic, and I didn’t want him reading from a computer screen due to eye strain. This definitely fits the bill. I also like that it is strictly reading.

I also like that you can set a timer, as he often reads before bed (and would keep reading until I stop him). I can see all the books that he has read from the parent app (and some have reading comp questions).

I think he has read about 4,000 pages since he got it six weeks ago, so he is definitely enjoying it. The UI has room for improvement, but it is workable. The kid’s FreeTime for a year for free is a huge bonus.

There are a ton of good books in there. We gave the second one to my mother-in-law for Mother’s Day, and she loves it too. It has a case included and a protection plan, so it made more sense than getting the standard kindle (especially with the bundle).

This has made a huge difference in our 7 year old grandson’s life. Before he was reading maybe a total of 1 hour a week. first week he clocked in at 7. 5 hours. second week he was reading 10. 5 hours and loving it.

The ways he can track his own achievements has been very motivating. and parents can track what he is doing as well. This was worth every penny! This is his activity of choice when he has some free time between his virtual classes.

I had high hopes for this Kindle for reading books and other documents. After having HD screens on my smartphones and tablets, I couldn’t get used to black and white book covers and other graphics. I really wanted to like this device, because the size and aspect ratio was just right.

Unfortunately, I had an extensive collection of Google Play Books that are DRM protected, and there was just no way to read those books on the Kindle. Although I could convert the books to EPUB so they could work on the Kindle, the conversion did not address the DRM protection.

When I first started reading ebooks on Android tablets, the tablets were 7 to 8 inches in size with a 4:3 aspect ratio, just right for ebooks. Now they are so big for watching movies, that they are unwieldly for books.

So I really wanted to like the Kindle Oasis because it was the size of the first Android tablet that I owned. I just couldn’t see buying all the ebooks over again that I already owned just so they could be on the Kindle.

Another thing that was weird is that if you have a number of Word and PDF documents, you have to send the documents one at a time to the Kindle’s special email address. You cannot plug the Kindle to your computer and batch download your files to it.

They won’t show up to be read that way. So I ended up returning the Kindle.

I purchased this device out of curiosity. I purchased my first Kindle in 2008 and over the years have upgraded. My next one was the Kindle Keyboard and after that was the Kindle Paperwhite. I actually had 2 different versions of the Paperwhite.

The most recent Paperwhite I purchased last November for Black Friday. I like the idea of a bigger screen, so I decided to purchase this. I picked this up over Black Friday at a reduce price. Set up was easy.

Started reading on it. About 20 – 30 minutes later, my fingers started to get cold. I like holding the device and not using a cover, so that aluminum got cold quick. I ended up purchasing a light case that doesn’t seem to add much weight to it.

Have extra reading real estate is great. I think I read somewhere that having a 7″ screen, adds 33 more words to the screen. But I guess that would depend on the font size. I liked to be able to turn the page with the buttons, that is one of the reason why I loved the first Kindle and the Kindle Keyboard.

The Kindle Keyboard would be perfect, if it had a back light. I don’t know if its the ergonomics of the devise, but my fingers felt like they were cramped, after about an hour of reading. It’s a different feel or hold when you hold the Paperwhite and hold the Oasis.

I feel like I have to grip the Oasis when I hold it and the Paperwhite, my hands rest on the device. The battery life is good. When I set it up, It was about 78% charged. I charged it up to 100% and have been reading on the same charge since.

I haven’t decided if I’m going to keep it. I really like having the extra real estate to read more words and the page turning buttons. Except for the coldness of the aluminum, I don’t have anything bad to say about this device.

I do wish Amazon would think about making a 7. 8″ device for reading, otherwise I guess this one will have to do. Purchasing this at a reduce price, is the best way to do it.

I have had a Kindle for years i upgraded whenever i could. I got my whole family hooked and even went to kindles for online use. My Mama loved hers until the day she died. I love to read and with kindle unlimited I have gotten to read and love a variety of books I never would have known.

The newest has come a long way from my first one. It is light great to read from and text can be enlarged which helps my eyes as i have grown up as well and need a little extra help. It turns great and in its cover really feels like a book.

I can’t imagine life without it. The benefit is I already have so many books because it is so hard for me to let them go and I have ran out of room. My kindle holds so many books i have gotten and with unlimited it is a fabulous adventure into many types of literature.

You want be disappointed with this purchase, worth every penny.

Cutting right to the chase: the adjustable color temperature screen is the greatest advance in Kindles since self-illuminating screens were introduced on the first Paperwhite… period, full-stop. And, at least for this reader, there’s no going back after trying it out.

It’s that good, and that much of a game changer. With both warmth and brightness (they have separate controls) turned up to about the midway point, reading on a Kindle transitioned for the first time from merely reading words, to the experience of reading words on a paper page in a book.

This might sound like “Who cares?” nonsense to most people, but if you’re in that small minority of the public buying a high-end Kindle, you understand what I mean, and it’s that kind of difference that you’re paying for.

The new lighting also transforms the experience of reading in a completely dark room. On existing Kindles, I could never find quite the right light level. If it was as bright as I wanted it to be, that felt too harsh on my eyes.

But bringing brightness down to a level that felt comfortable seemed too dim. Now, by simply increasing the lighting warmth on the new Oasis, you can have brighter light with no harshness in a dark room, making reading much easier on the eyes.

Finally, I’m happy to say that Amazon seems to have (finally!) nailed the quality control issues that have plagued new Kindle lighting systems in the past: No splotches. No dark spots. No shadows. No weird color casts.

Just smooth, even, beautiful lighting across the screen. So, is this the perfect Kindle for me? No. The perfect Kindle would be this new 7” screen in a Voyager form factor. The ergonomics of the Oasis are still not great for me, although my satisfaction with the new screen appears to make the annoyances matter less.

The 2019 Oasis is not only a keeper for me, but I’m actually trading in both my Voyager and original Oasis.

Love it. Many have complained about battery life but I actually don’t mind it. I do most of my browsing on my phone or computer and the device is specifically for reading. So far it’s lasted me about a week with heavy usage (like reading more than 10 chapters on high brightness and warmth).

I love the page turn buttons and the ability to disable the touchscreen so I can hold it better without touching to turn on accident. Was going to go for the paper white but glad I chose the Oasis. Hopefully Amazon upgrades it and I can trade in.

I love physical books but hate storing them because I never have space nor do I ever rarely re-read some books. This device is a game changer and makes more excited to read more books.

Have to say first that after a trial, I decided to return the devise, because 1) I still need to read some kindle books, which are not easy to get on pocketbook. Although I won’t buy a kindle (don’t like its monopolised marketing), I will consider an android e-reader that can at least run a google play.

2) I prefer a bigger screen. However, I think this is a very decent E-reader. 1) It is not linked with any book-store (like kindle or kobo). 2) you don’t have to register (which is good for privacy).

3) it is compatiable with most of the formats. 4) It has audio option. So it’s up to you to decide which function matters most to you.

Excellent product. Pocketbook is one of the top ebook providers – this is now my third model of theirs and they are the best available. The best thing is that they are customizable. I replaced the stock epub reader, for example.

Screen back light blinks ever time I flip the page, supper annoying, I gave one star extra only for the PDF reader voice.

I love my Kindle Paperwhite! Using this e-reader has been such a fantastic experience. I love being able to read an e-book that appears exactly like picking up a paperback book. The battery life on the Kindle Paperwhite is amazing too- you only need to charge it twice a month and that’s if you use it a lot.

There’s a lot of nice features on this device- you can adjust the lights, the font, and the page spacing too. The price is good for such a high quality e-reader. Amazon runs sales often on their products too.

The Kindle Voyage is still an excellent eReader. I bought it in November 2014 sold it and bought it again. Now that says a lot about how good the Voyage is. The Kindle Voyages screen Resolution when held next to the current Kindle Paperwhite 10th Gen as well as the Oasis has better screen resolution out of all three of them.

All three of them have 300 PPI resolution. The Kindle Voyage has the best screen out of them all with its deep dark inky blacks even though it shares the exact same resolution as the other two. Very clear screen like reading from a book and super lightweight.

It has the page turn buttons you press down on, but I never use them. Just put a case on it to protect it and youre good to go! Using it without a case makes it even more light as a feather like. All in all I still recommend this eReader because its just that good.

Overall, buying a kindle is a great purchase. Truly worth the cost for an amazing reading experience. The kindle paperwhite 7th gen is a suitable kindle, better than spending more for the newest version.

Specifically for this item (being used and such) is amazing! The quality was overall like new, with a view scratches on the border and a small knick on the screen (which is not visible unless closely observed).

It also came with a black amazon case which is greatly appreciated and unexpected. A kindle definitely benefited my life, I read so much more, I absolutely don’t regret buying this product!.

The Libra 2 is the best affordable e-reader currently on the market when considering battery life and features. It’s a great size, perfect for holding with one hand when sitting down or laying in bed.

The Overdrive library allows me to borrow books for free from my public library, I can easily find new books on the Kobo store, and I have also sideloaded my own ePUB files without problems. The book sideloading capability makes the Libra 2 a much better option than the Amazon Kindle series.

I only wish that I could sideload audiobooks as well. I appreciate the USB-C charging port over the old micro-USB standard in my Kobo Clara HD, and my unit charges quickly. Battery life is superb. In one instance, I didn’t use or plug in my e-reader for over 2 months, and when I opened the Sleep Cover it still had over 30% battery left! I have not tested the unit in water but I am pleased that waterproofing is a standard feature.

The actual display is beautifully crisp for reading books and displays images in grayscale well. Backlight distribution is perfect, no inconsistencies there. Color temperature adjustment works great too.

I also like the integrated Pocket service where I can read articles from various news sources on my e-reader. The user interface is friendly and I absolutely love the integrated dictionary feature and the ability to highlight important text.

The SleepCover is perfect for this unit too, and feels great to the touch. I highly recommend this product.

It’s a great product, except that there are several glaring design and usability problems that have somehow been carried over across multiple Kobo models. The worst is probably the rendering of unaltered epub files.

Kobo has its own version of the format that is somehow slightly different, you see, so Kobo epubs are rendered with a different engine from normal epubs. Which would be okay if the two matched up! But they do not.

Compare the text on the two pages attached. The unaltered epub has text SEVERAL TIMES larger than the kobo epub. This is pretty consistent across books, it’s been an issue at least since my first Kobo in 2015 and it’s *bizarre* that it still does this.

Calibre fixes it in conversion. But this absolutely glaring mismatch in default font settings means it’s maddening to ever try to use epubs (even free ones off the Kobo site!) if you also ever read kobo epubs.

You need to remember to convert every time. Weird! Why does the device not just convert them itself? Another longstanding design problem is the brightness control, which seems to be on a linear scale.

That means that 2% is TWICE as bright as 1% (which is already a bit too bright for my night-time reading preferences), 3% is 50% again as bright, but 91% is 1. 1% brighter than 90%. I literally cannot conceive of a situation where I would care even slightly about the difference between 90% and 91%.

The difference between 1% and 2% is the difference between slightly too bright and WAY too bright (although not quite as glaring on the Libra as it was on the H2O). About a millimetre further and I’m on 5%, shocking in the dark! Another REALLY important design flaw has persisted through at least four or five different Kobo models: the brightness control is not available on every page.

If you’re on the home page or even if you’ve accidentally selected a word in a book, the brightness controls don’t work. This is dire, because it’s vital to be able to change the brightness without looking at the screen! If the screen-light is off and you’re in pitch blackness, you’re screwed until you can find another light source.

If the screen-light is BRIGHT and you’re in the dark, it’s AWFUL. This could (and should) be fixed by ensuring that the interface for changing brightness works on every screen, not just in the main reader-view.

This would have literally no down-sides from an end-user perspective. Another design flaw is relatively recently introduced, but it’s shared with the Elipsa: the switch to toggle Dark Mode is only available in Settings, and on the second page of them on Libra.

There should be a switch attached to the brightness setting slider; there’s plenty of space for one. Dark Mode is a massively welcome and overdue addition though; it finally allows me to make my screen dim enough to read comfortably in the dark.

I REALLY like the design of this reader. It’s a tiny bit larger than the Clara, but in some respects that’s an advantage — it has good sturdiness — a big plus for me since I take it on my long backpacking trips for my evening reading; fits in the backpack easily, weighs about the same or less than a single paperback, and provides its own lighting.

Navigation is excellent — I like the navigation buttons; they augment the screen controls very nicely. The internal guidance and icons are both straightforward and useful. If I had a nit, it would be the understandable but annoying focus on the Kobo store as the library.

I acquire books from a variety of sources, add them to my Calibre Library, and then transfer the backpacking readings to the Libra 2 (and did so previously with my Clara). Hence, when I go to “My Books”, I would prefer it was just presented as my book library, period — not differentiation between Kobo native books and my Calibre imports.

I know, Kobo is a bookseller, too. But, I chose the Kobo Readers BECAUSE I did not want a Kindle, BECAUSE I didn’t want to be bound to the Amazon ecosystem or any book ecosystem. I’ll acquire books from Kobo where it makes sense (price is competitve which means within 5% or so of other vendor), but sometimes Kobo doesn’t have a book.

Happens. So, I suppose I’d just like the Libra 2 to be a little more agnostic with respect to book source differentiation — kind of like my physical library: without looking at a physical book’s interior, I cannot know it’s publisher and in any case I do know know the vendor.

Where did I buy my copies of _A Theory of Justice_? I now have no idea — from a bookstore, and that’s about all I can say. My Libra 2 library ought to mimic that at least to some extent. Enough vent on a minor point.

This is just an extraordinary reader in every other respect, and especially for taking out in the back country. Given a choice between Libra 2 and its competitors, this is the far superior reader.

I purchased this to annotate technical papers and store my reference text books for work. Having figures in color and the ability to highlight in difference colors, annotate, and write and sketch notes is invaluable.

My eyes get tired staring at a computer for so many hours a day, and this little book is a lifesaver for both space (goodbye, giant binders and texbooks!) and computer headaches. I have to provide annotated versions of documents to renew several of my credentials, and this is a great tool for making those electronic annotated documents without being trapped at my desk for even longer hours.

The portability is wonderful, I love having the option to read in the park. The stylus connects firmly (tip down only). I already dropped this from lap height into hardwood floor- the screen did not break.

What I love: The colors are quite nice (YSK: the color palette is overall muted- no saturated or vibrant color options). The search feature, page turn speed, zoom, moving around the page, organization,and notebooks are EXCELLENT and intuitive.

Customization of tools- which ones appear in what order and where- is a very nice feature. It’s very fast and easy to add or remove papers and texts by WiFi. It is legible outside on a sunny day (at least in the northeast), and the battery life is fantastic – lasts me days.

I would change: I wish the screen were a little larger, and that there was a way to flip between a notepad and a PDF to take notes in a notepad (one can always write/highlight directly to the PDF, or flip between two PDF documents, but not a notebook and a PDF).

The pen cap doesn’t hook into the back of the stylus; I’ve already lost it. When the unit gets hot, greyish specs appear in the background of the book and there is some ghosting effect, but these disappear when the unit cools down and restarts.

Overall, a great little device. I highly recommend it for technical experts who spend a lot of time reading and annotating documents.

There are plenty of long reviews of this device so I will keep to a few specifics. Firstly it is worth saying this is not a normal colour tablet, it is not a normal eInk ereader. It is slower than a tablet and it does not have a screen that comes anywhere near to the colour display of a tablet or the contrast of a normal ereader but it does have a screen that allows reading material when in sunlight with colour making it almost unique.

I bought this looking for a device to read books, emails, and the newspaper outside because I hate trying to do that on conventional devices with the light turned up to max. This ereader/Tablet is much faster than an older Boox device that I had.

It allows me to see the screen in the sun, it has a good battery life compared with a tablet but less good when compared with a Kindle. I am very happy with it. BUT it is not the best device to use as a simple ereader for books.

There are a few reasons quoted but the most important is is because the screen is very dark unless there is a lot of ambient light so the front light has to be used when inside (but I use a normal tablet inside !).

So in summary the device allows me to do something I could not do before which is read in the sun ! The colour means that instead of shades of grey in a normal einkdisplay there are colour contrasts making it much easier to read magazines, newspapers, web based material it does nothing to help reading a book !!!!.

I’m very happy with this product. It is compact and light, works well, and the battery lasts very well. Getting the play store to work to a little time waiting for the confirmation to come through, but once done there are so many great apps that can be installed.

I use this to read books I have with boox but also with three other ebook stores I used over the years. The screen is clear and colourful, I find I need to leave the front light active at a low level, but even with this the battery performance is great.

The included poem works well for note taking or sketching, and the results can by sent to various cloud storage providers as pdf. Very happy overall, would buy again.

Malfunctioning after a few months of use and the customer service was a disaster. Now I couldn’t write or erase on the tablet randomly. It’s not the problem of the stylus since even a new one fails on the tablet.

The customer service just repeatly asked me to factory reset, update firmware (newst version already) and test my tablet following their instructions. Every time after a trial, I have to take photos/videos to show the problem still exists.

I couldn’t believe after > 4 months of back-and-forth, they just won’t take the tablet back and fix it! Worst purchase experience ever. Already bought Remarkable 2 and works like a charm. Avoid Boox at all cost!.

I have been waiting for an e-reader like this for 10 years now. Its size makes it possible to read most documents and books in a 1:1 format, contrary to most e-readers on the market which are significantly smaller.

Graphics will be displayed fast, but do keep in mind that it is a greyscale only screen. It’s handwriting features might not be as polished as that of the “Remarkable” but the difference is tiny. I was surprised that it would more often than not recognize my (horrible) handwriting without too many errors.

One major feature of this device is that it is a full Android tablet with an e-ink screen. Compared to other e-readers that means that there are many, many more apps available. Onyx sadly does not yet offer a cover that fits this model perfectly.

The cover for the Max 3 fill fit somewhat, but not perfectly. I listed the “manual activation of Google Play needed” both as pro and con since it will be a bonus for those conscious of privacy, but a malus to those wanting the newest features and integration with other apps.

Boox Max Lumi2 has a huge screen compared to Boox Note Air2. The 13. 3 inch screen means more screen estate for reading and writing. In practice, I am able to write a journal with a TO-DO list in a single screen instead of having to flip pages.

Plus, I am able to view books in a two column mode for both Amazon Kindle and Google Play Books, emulating the experience of reading physical books. This is a god sent when it comes to reading PDF files, too.

While this is an expensive device, I highly recommend it as it is well worth the price.

It has changed my life to have such a simple way to read, take notes, and stay focused. I now journal every evening before bed by hand and insert pictures of my kids with captions. Takes 15 minutes. I also use it at work to mock-up presentations & convey concepts to my team that are hard to get across in words without pictures.

Before COVID, I always kept scrap paper or a whiteboard handy for these purposes, but since COVID my ability to communicate with my team had fallen off dramatically. This has restored it. Reading on this thing is also a joy.

I’ve stopped playing hours of video games every evening because I prefer to read instead. I read to my older kids (pre-teen years) every night for 30 minutes from a book that we can all enjoy together.

Then I read early-reader books to my toddler before putting him down to bed. We’re much closer now as a result. First thing every morning, I read an inspirational talk or some scriptures. I don’t even reach for my phone anymore until I’m headed out the door to drop my kids off at school.

Thanks to the large screen, it’s great for reading on the treadmill too. Given how much better my life is with this tablet in it, I’ve actually ordered an e-ink smartphone to go along with it in hopes of eliminating my addiction to my phone & mobile gaming altogether.

The screen looks fantastic. LOVE the ability to set levels on both the red & blue lighting individually for evening reading. I fall asleep so much easier now than I used to. The Boox Note series has all of the joy of an e-reader + most of the joy of a tablet + NONE of the distractions that come with staring at my phone/tablet.

This thing is a fantastic lifestyle choice if you’re looking to get back your ability to stay focused.

This is a really nice tablet – I have previously had apple, asus, and samsung tablets. One of my biggest gripes on other tablets had been battery life (really just picking it up after a week of no use and the battery is dead).

I use this for reading the news apps, medium app, and connecting to my google drive for reading journal articles. For these purposes it is great. Screen refresh is much slower than a standard screen, but it is what it is.

Battery life is excellent and it automatically shuts down after a set time (mine is set to 1hr). I get at least 5 days of use without needing to recharge. The e-ink is better than I had expected for reading – really nice outside as well.

Eye fatigue is significantly reduced compared to reading a traditional screen or phone. The backlight works good for lowlight reading. The only major negative aspect – as mentioned elsewhere on the internet, this tablet routinely sends information back to China.

What is it sending back (??). You can install and configure an app called Netgaurd to intercept this traffic. There is a youtube link somewhere on how to configure. All in all – it is a good tablet. Its well manufactured and designed.

For my limited specific uses it works fantastic. I can’t comment on the note-taking since I dont use it for that purpose. Hope this is helpful.

In sone ways, i’m super impressed. Browsing works, which is needed to buy kindle books and b&n books. Nook and kindle work great. Native reader works great with epubs. I do pdfs on my ipad so don’t care that pdfs are too small on boox note air2.

Pen works great. Notepad app is responsive works perfectly with the pen. I’ll probably give this to my wife tho. I don’t need a notepad. Don’t need the premium feel of metal and glass, don’t need a pen.

As long as there’s a good native reader, a good nook and kindle app, i’m fine. And i can buy digital content from my smartphone and send to my ereader so it’s not a big deal. If you need a notepad and ereader, don’t need to read pdfs too often (cuz it’s way small on this device) and you want the flexibility of downloading any app from google play, and if you like audiobooks, then this device has u covered.

If u just want an ereader that has nook and kindle and a solid native reader, this is overkill. One small thing, not a big deal. the wide format makes this device harder to fit in things like slings.

So, i’ll be picking up a new boox device that is smaller and just an ereadet Note to boox: u ootinized kindle and made it available from the boox store. Please do the same with nook!.

I read 131 books last year using the Kindle app on my smartphone. It worked well, I always had a book or 3 on hand, and the bulky, poor battery e-reader experience I had a decade ago convinced me that my smartphone was an ideal reading device.

I was wrong. I love, love, love the new Kindle Paperwhite for it’s immersive, enjoyable reading experience. It is lightweight, feels well balanced in hand, and is easier to hold than my smartphone despite the sometimes awkward bottom power button placement.

The screen is a joy to read with – clear, crisp text with infinitely adjustable brightness and tint. The softer light from the Paperwhite has actually helped my insomnia. If I wake up and read, it is much easier to drift back to sleep.

I had my smartphone set to dark mode and didn’t realize how much blue light it was still emitting, keeping me awake at night. The battery charge lasts for weeks and stands up to the challenge of a rigorous reading schedule.

I love that I can queue up dozens of books to read and still have plenty of storage space for more. The ad-supported version isn’t much of a bother, although the ads are tailored to your reading interests.

I quickly figured out how to turn ad filtering on to keep the romance novels off the lock screen and keep it family friendly. I also set up the Household and Family Library to select books specifically for my kids to read.

I can create a child account, manage their digital content, and hand the Paperwhite to them to read without worrying that they’ll stumble into less age appropriate reading. I tried an Audible book with the Paperwhite, and it was simple to connect my headphones via bluetooth to stream the book.

I felt like using the bluetooth consumed a bit more battery life and didn’t see much advantage over using my smartphone, but it is nice to have the option. Overall, I am glad that I made the switch from smartphone reading to the new Paperwhite, it really, truly is a vast improvement in the reading experience beyond what I could have imagined.

Oh I’m literally obsessed. I was shocked. I was super anti-kindle it for YEARS because I’m not a screen reader, I like turning pages, I like a physical book collection, yada yada. BUT — I’m not even kidding, I cannot put this thing down.

I read 4 books in 7 days because of how much I truly enjoy it & how easy it makes reading. It’s not super “technologically advanced” like an iPad/iPhone & can sometimes be a little slow to get back to your library or shop the kindle store, but honestly I have 0 issues with it & it’s easy to learn how to use.

Part of me also wishes the book covers could have some color BUT I think that would mess with the overall “true to paper” style so I don’t mind the black & white. The screen is not your average computer/tablet screen.

It’s soft, perfectly lit, & is such a comfortable read. You can set the text to multiple fonts/sizes, change the brightness & warmness, and the charge holds for weeks. I’m now actually searching for the physical books I have ON the kindle because I’d rather read them there.

If you’re on the fence, I doubt you’ll be disappointed. It is slightly more expensive but waiting for a promotion/sale made it definitely doable for me!.

This new 2021 Kindle Paperwhite is a really nice upgrade from previous generations. It has a larger screen with the same 300ppi screen density as previous Paperwhites, and now has the addition of warmth light adjustment as well as brightness.

It’s nice to have a warmer light backlighting the screen rather than the bright blue of previous Kindles. USB-C charging is available now which is becoming the charging standard for almost everything, so that is nice.

The page turns and navigation are certainly faster than previous generations as well. My only quibble is the Amazon software that is baked in and can’t be changed. Ads on the Lock Screen and constant offers for Audible or Prime Library and Goodreads integration are also present on your homescreen always.

Battery life seems to be great as all Kindles are. If you have smaller hands you may want to try in store before purchase as it is just on the cusp of being too large to read one handed. I’m happy with my purchase and the new hardware is nice but it isn’t a five star device because of the Amazon software.

Not our first kindle we are a family of 5 with 4 of them. This is the prior model of the Paperwhite. The software has recently been updated and its very intuitive. It is in our experience a fool proof purpose built device.

Can’t go wrong but would consider the newer model. Pricing at Best Buy was better than Amazon when I bought it. Also has a web browser but not its best feature. I love sending PDF documents to it saving time space and my back from carrying paper on long trips.

Kindle versions of books are always cheaper in my experience so the purchase has a short payback. The ability to carry hundreds of books is kind of amazing.

I’ve been reading library ebooks on my phone, and decided to upgrade to a Kindle. I got this on sale, I think it was around Prime day, with an additional discount from a Best Buy coupon I got in email.

I like that it has a light, but wish it auto-adjusted to ambient light levels. Also, when I come across something in a book that I want to know more about, searching for information is better on the phone app than the Kindle device.

For example when the name of a character comes up and I can’t remember who is who, sometimes that information is built into the ebook, but sometimes you need a web search, which is easier on a smart phone.

However, the kindle is better for reading at night because it’s less disruptive to sleep. Also it is lightweight and the battery lasts much longer than a phone, with less opportunity for distraction.

Instead of a regular case I got a popsocket which has made holding the kindle in bed pretty convenient. Someday post-coronavirus I imagine I’ll want to bring it to work with me to read on breaks, in which case I think I’ll look for a protective sleeve for stuffing it in my bag.

Bought a very cheap second hand kindle at the time of the first lockdown, when I could no longer get to the library or charity shops. I read a lot and this was a useful addition to buying physical books online.

I wasn’t sure how much I’d enjoy it, so didn’t want to spend a lot. In fact, this version does everything I want it to- can access the internet and listen/watch YouTube as well as reading books. Very easy to use and useful to be able to change font size, background brightness etc.

Because it’s an old version it no longer allows you to download audio books and there are a few other limitations- what games you can download, for instance- which don’t bother me. It’s an old machine so its battery life is only average- I have listened to YouTube for up to 4.

5 hours before needing to recharge, and have been able to read for much longer. All in all a good buy at the price.

Hi I actually had the older Amazon fire tablet when they first came out. I thought I would use it more for reading but I didn’t. I actually used to play a lot of my online games that I like. It was a little more convenient to have them on the tablet versus on my phone.

Sometimes I forget that I have his tablet and with all of the technology that they have added to phones I find myself not really using my tablet. But this would make a great gift for an older person that’s not text savvy and also a toddler.

Got this for myself after seeing how much my kids liked theirs. Love it! I love that I can read, listen to music, surf the web, take pictures and videos, watch shows/movies and even download apps I like to have like Pinterest.

Has a little bit of everything. You change the font size, screen brightness or color and adjust the volume easily. You can take notes and bookmark and you can even look up words if you don’t know what they mean! Plus after you download a book it will suggest new one with similar vibes.

You can also download samples to decide if it’s something you want.

Over all, the Nook does what a Nook should, display books. I received this product and had to forcibly hard reset it as it had issues turning on and had the original accounts still registered. Once I did that, it started turning on a little easier.

The only issue right now is it has a finiky battery. After it dies, I will plug it in to charge until the light turns green. Turn on the screen, see it has 100% battery, unplug it, and suddenly it either drops to below 25% or will power off from NO POWER.

But after messing with it further, I can generally get it back onto the main screen. If I had known about the issues with the battery, I probably wouldn’t have bought it, as I had gotten it to help distract my toddler.

Nothing worse than having a happy toddler melt down because a ‘fully charged’ tablet suddenly dies from no more battery.

I wanted a tablet that could be a laptop/phone on the go. The Nook somewhat achieves this at the most basic level. I got the 16 GB version, which only allows you to put on 1 GB of your own stuff, like pictures, movies, and music.

The battery is great; it’ll be on standby for more than a day and barely lose any battery life. But there are quite a few cons: most of the major apps are not in the Nook Store. Games are mediocre, ability to check your emails is somewhat acceptable but Gmail is formatted oddly, and a few apps to use are not very user-friendly.

Many useful apps, like those to open a pdf file, or notepads, or a simple game to pass the time, are ALL apps you have to pay for. There are very few free apps, and the free ones are some of the worst.

It’s at least a good thing that is has Netflix and Pandora, but honestly, I wouldn’t recommend this for anyone who wants to do much more than read. It’s pretty great for that: you can change the brightness to be really bright and the low levels are perfect for nighttime reading.

Also, just in use in general, the ease of going between checking an email to switching to a browser is inconvenient; I had to look up a lot of little tricks to doing even simple things, like a back button or returning to the home screen.

These were not made for ease for the buyer at all.
