20 Best T Square For Woodworking (2023 Updated)

I love this tool and wish I had bought it sooner. Starting off with the fact that this t-square is dead on accurate, and offers a ton of scribe index marks all the way across the 24” ruler. It is quite light and features a very smooth feel.

Comes with an mdf holder so you can place it on the wall for great storage and safety. Really glad I finally got this!.

WOW With the cost of this item and the reputation of the company I knew it was going to be good but I had no idea how special. It is heavy. It is red and it is accurate to a level that I can not find the error point.

I expect that it will continue to be those thing indefinnitly.

Unfortunately I returned this purchase once I got home and realised that the strip with the numbers doesn’t lie flush with the surface. Instead of being attached to the top of the cross section it would be better if it was attached to the bottom of it for increased accuracy.

My job that I am working on needs to be really precise and unfortunately this ruler did not cut it.

I purchased this product to help me straighten the raw edges of my crafting material before I start a new project. It is a most useful tool, without which there would be some wonky patchwork blocks!

This product is great for interior architecture students as the lines come out straight and it is a strong product great for having approximate lines

Where has this been all my life? So happy I bought this! You get the same benefits that come with the larger versions but it is so much easier to use on smaller projects. And the price! What a steal! Do yourself a favor.

I bought this t-square for my 8 year old granddaughter who is a budding artist. My college 2-d students used these for many class assignments. They are sturdy and wear well. Great price for a great product!.

Purchased the item to use with my DeWalt 18v circular saw. Before actual use though, I checked it against my accurate wood square. It wasn’t and is 1. 5mm out. I had read elsewhere about the same problem and now realise that I should have taken my wood square with me to the store and checked the rafter square before purchase.

As I’ll have to return it, that’s what I’ll do and hopefully get one that’s is accurate. I’m a DeWalt fan and have virtually all their cordless power tools, including hex, SDS drill bits, plus impact driver screw kit, all of which are first class.

It’s a pity their rafter squares are not quality checked before dispatch. Don’t assume if you’re buying one that it’ll be accurate and take another square with you to compare at the store. It could save time and hassle.

Solid with decent protractor markings. I needed this for ensuring kitchen cupboards were assembled straight and level, and measuring out positions for drilling. There are no metric markings on the rulers on either side.

The images show only one side of the square which to me hides the fact it’s an imperial only tool. Can’t comment on the accuracy of either ruler or protractor. I skimmed through the reviews before buying this, but only later on saw one mentioning imperial only.

Returned for a refund which was sorted without any questions.

It’s is very slightly out of square it’s 89. 9 degrees this is was confirmed with the a Bosch digital protractor and the good old two pencil line test. However, it’s very thick aluminum and more than good enough for using as a straight edge for a circular saw and general scribing/door casing.

I have both the 7 and 12 both are good enough standard construction work. It’s a rafter square made for site work not fine carpentry.

This is a great tool for my craft room. I have a few T-Square rulers, but this one is solid and I love the ruler printed measuring feature. This has helped me so much in measuring and keeping my lines straight.

This T Square was perfect for the art projects I like to do. I love having the extra space to work with. I’m gearing up to go back to college to study Fashion Design so I want nothing but the best tools to use.

Sometimes the best tools can be an older sewing machine to learn the basics of sewing materials. That is something I truly appreciate as well but for this T-Square, I appreciate a good guide to start with.

This T Square has it.

It’s not bad for the price. The measurements, in inches and in centimeters, are easily visible. The materials are cheap, the metal is thin making it lightweight, but also a bit flimsy. It depends on your usage if this would work for you or not.

I’m not sure how it would hold up for everyday use, but for occasional use it should be fine.

Works perfectly. Helps very much with drawing on canvas prior to oil painting. Helps stabilize the ruler to ensure straight lines.

Nice quality, lightweight T square, reasonably priced. I’m using it to draw up building plans. In stock at the store, and the employees were nice.

For the price this is one heck of good buy. It is well made with all-brass screw lock, and the scribe actually screws into place rather than just a snug fit. This item also sports a metric centimeter scale that is surprisingly helpful in a variety of ways.

Liked the feel it seems well made,like how it had some weight to it. But the warrenty is for1 year. Empire is life time. Too bad. Back it goes.

It was square out of the box, er… cardboard sheet. Ruler was also good. I bought this after failing to find an Empire True Blue 6″ square that didn’t have a bad ruler

I bought this for making large paintings. It is the perfect size. It arrived in fantastic shape.

I was surprised to find this 3 ft ruler on Zulily but at that price I knew I needed to order it. It very useful for various art project as well as home decorating projects.

I had been looking for an accurate combination square for a while and particularly wanted one that was actually square (otherwise what’s the point). I checked the reviews on a number of different combination squares many of which said other products were not square.

The reviews for this Stanley square were good so decided on this one. I checked it for square when I got home and it was spot on! A top quality combination square can cost up to £100 so the price for this product was a bargain.

I’m delighted with it. If you buy it just check that the little scriber hasn’t fallen out of the base of the cast iron body.

I remember using this exact tool when assisting my dad when I was kid, so it was part nostalgia as well as function that I wanted to get the same tool as an adult. Still a great tool with a lot of great features.

The scribing tool is a nice addition when you don’t have a pencil handy when measuring cuts, though, I’m sure there’s some other function to it that I haven’t quite figured out. The only complaint I have is the packaging just wouldn’t tear I opened it for the first time, so I decided to remove the slide rule which turned out to be a mistake.

Lining it back up to seat with the square was a bit more challenging than I expected. If the packaging could be changed to simple cardboard, that would be cool, but I get why you want it to be nicer.

The first thing that struck me is the bright yellow color. A little loud yet at least it should be easy to find if it’s misplaced. The next thing is the thickness of the metal it’s made from. I have a Craftsman #39567 ( USA made) to compare it to.

Guessing, Stanley may have made the product for Craftsman. The metal on your Stanley is slightly narrow on the handle. The level vial nicely secured though, as well as the scribe pin. The ruler adjuster easy to use and stays tight.

The print on the ruler looks generic. Over time may wear down If the numbers were stamped in, they could still be seen when the print wears down. Would also like to see the numbers in 32nds not just 16ths I have a Stanley #46-133 ( USA made) combo square ruler.

The print still strong. I give your 12 inch English/Metric Combination Square 4 stars based on the quality of the print and the fact it’s made in China instead of the USA. Still would recommend for a do-it yourself person.

Using this Stanley T-square doing building work at home very good, accurate, clear markings can not fault it really, just a pity its only metric nice to have had imperial as well but in all fairness not really a problem.

I would recommend this tool but it was wrapped in polythene no doubt as it’s such a big and bulky item. Unfortunately the short angled length was bent as this is supposed to be a precise tool it does degrade it’s performance.

Was it the courier to blame in this busy period? I know not but some what disappointed.

Good set square for making up 8′ x 4′ boards (and smaller boards for that matter), with two decent long edges, at right angles. The set square rests against the edge of the board (i. e. you can butt it up to the edge of a board to mark a true 90 degree line with a steady hand).

It would be handy to have the gradations start from the right angle rather than proceed from one end of the short edge to the other. Store flat, or at least with no change of the long edge sagging, as leaning up against a vertical surface it can warp.

Purchased this when I built my deck…. Best purchase I made. Perfect size for your pocket, graduated marks to set angled cuts, marked both in roof angel and degrees… all in all awesome tool

I did get to finally use it to work on a fence / gates I just recently built. I thought the black anodized with white lettering version of this one would be better because my eyesight is not what it used to be.

But this one was clear enough to use. Granted, I mostly just used it for the simple square but it did work well.

I have larger squares but this small version has become so handy that I now consider it a main tool.

I am replacing a deck and was using a 7 in rafter square to mark and guide a circular to make precise 90 degree cuts. It wasn’t quite big enough to be stable and some cuts were still off. I was shopping for something else and saw the giant rafter squares.

The aluminum ones were awfully heavy and I wasn’t sure it it would really help much. Then I saw the plastic version that was light and really inexpensive and decided to give it a try. I usually break plastic accessories right away but this thing has been steeped on, had lumber dropped on it and is no worse for the wear.

It is also stiff enough that it functions as well as I would have expected from aluminum. I have not used the angle function to layout stringers or rafters yet, but I can always check the angles with my smaller metal versions if I have any doubts.

The only downside is that it wont fit in a tool belt.

You would be surprised how many times I had bought a speed square only to find it not to be accurate in either the 90 or 45 degree angles, sometimes both. This one shocked me to be accurate in both. I have not checked the other angles as of yet but I’m sure they are within an acceptable tolerance to the markings for framing work.

Excellent time saving multi-tool. No need for 2 sliding bevels as was the case before I first purchased one of these. Just bought a new one as my old one was showing signs of wear & tear after 20 years of hard labour.

Simply set the pitch and get the seat cut and plumb cut bevel on one tool. Once the pitch is set easily read off the figure on com/jack scale and transfer to the hip/val scale to get the pitch of hip rafter.

The figures on the com/jack and hip/val scales are a little confusing if you’re not acquainted with the old skool feet & inches. These figures show the rise in inches per foot of run. Simple to use tool that I could not now cope without.

No need for a protractor to set any bevel. Can also be used as a power saw guide when clamped to the work piece. Top tool, job done!!! Ande, Total House Construction.

I grew up doing carpentry with my grandfather and squares are indispensable. However, a speed square has so much functionality BUT this is not a speed square. If you are doing framing, get a square with more features.

This has many features but the Swanson can do so much more. This does not even have the widths of the lumber on the inside or the scribe marks. Good tool but disappointing when you learn how to really use this.

It is a level 2 on a 5 level scale. One step above a basic square since it adds the protractor information.

I got this for Xmas and am impressed with its sturdy construction & functional appearance. Then, not being a framing carpenter, I started wondering what the cryptic markings such as “COM/JACK” and “HIP/VAL” meant (I figured the latter ones out).

THEN I started wondering how you use it and what it was designed for, besides use as a speed square or a protractor. Surprisingly, the packaging said NOTHING about it, but did mention a manual on the stanleytools.

I do construction and remodeling work for a living. I use a speed square everyday. This is the best available. It is of great quality and has many features not seen on cheaper “Harbor Freight” type models.

It is thicker and made of better alloy than the cheap ones too. The only reasons I have ever had to replace a Swanson is because I lost it, or I damaged it by using it for a task it wasn’t intended to do (I have used them as a hammer and a pry bar, in a pinch).

Used as intended, and if you don’t leave it on a job site, this square will last you forever.

Very handy tool with several applications explained on the packaging. The enclosed booklet provides detailed info on further uses of the Speed Square in construction. The belt clip is a plus and allows you to keep your Speed Square readily available for greater use.

The Woodpeckers Mini Square has been a great addition to my shop to this point. It works great for table saw setup, setting the fence on a jointer, fits easily in a tool pouch or pocket, therefore always being at hand to check squareness of any project on hand.

I’m extremely happy with the square to this point I would recommend it to anyone who needs an accurate Square on hand in their shop or at their job.

This square is great for checking to be sure chisels and plane irons are square. It also works great to check a scroll saw to make sure the blade is square to the table. I’ve even used it to get into tight spot that a regular square won’t fit.

This little square is great in too many situations to list here. I know its not the cheapest tool, but I find myself reaching for this one every time I need to make a quick check table saw blades and projects for squrare – couldn’t live without it.

Great price for item I needed for art class, had hard time finding it at other stores and was happy to find what I needed. Works well, and exactly what I expected it to be.

As a woodworker I draw plans on my computer. However, for finer details, notes, & the like, I prefer larger paper. This T-square reminds me of the ones used during 3 years of drafting. I particularly like the see through composite above and below the wood center.

This clear composite is thick enough to support triangles and other templates. The light weight allows it to move up & down and left & right along my desk edges.

If CAD isn’t appropriate for your project, or you’re incurably old-school. this is the t-square you need. The plastic edge is slightly recessed on both sides of the wood so that it’s not quite flush with the surface you’re drawing on.

Unless you’re using a large draughting table the 24-inch length is a nice compromise size and suffices for most purposes.

I’m happy I found the t-squire that I was looking for. The only thing I’m disappointed in is it does not have inches marked along one side like a ruler. Otherwise it is useful.
