20 Best Sweet Vermouth For Negroni (2023 Updated)

Bought this for the price-i thought it was mislabeled it was so inexpensive-but it made the world of difference in my Manhattan. I wasn’t the only one who noticed.

Adds great flavor in bourbon manhattans. I grew up with wines from western NY. Am delighted to find the this products comes from Fredonia, NY and has the taste of NYState grapes.

I like to keep this around the house, both for mixing drinks and occasionally for cooking. If a recipe calls for just a small amount of white wine and I am out or I don’t want to open a whole bottle, this makes an excellent replacement.

As much as I love Carpano Antica, it’s more than FOUR times as expensive as the Martini and Rossi. TOTAL WINE carries this in the short bottles, so it’s always easy to keep some fresh around. I wish they kept the short bottles of Noilly Prat dry vermouth around too.

No sense making a Martini or Manhattan with stale vermouth! Compared to the Carpano, this has a lot less vanilla and a lot less complexity. however, this is pretty fine stuff! You may even prefer it in a Negroni or any other cocktail that calls for sweet vermouth because it doesn’t overwhelm the other ingredients.

I’m not a big vermouth drinker. I say that as someone who’s ever properly drunk it, I haven’t, this was a first for me. I tried absinthe once, but mostly under peer pressure but didn’t want more in age that dreaded green fairy would appear (hallucinations were always linked to it, not that I experienced it).

Modern day vermouth seems to be all the rage, if you like classic Italian drinks – Negroni, or other popular cocktails – Manhattan, Martini etc. I tried this with tonic, as suggested, but tonic water, has a weird twang to it.

Instead I opted for lemonade, a dash of orange cordial, ice cubes, and slices of orange & lemon. It gave a nice twist to the subtle notes of orange and caramel. Being so dark in colour, it looks like a scary looking Ribena, but once mixed, it makes for a good summer cooler, not that the weather has been nice enough for that in this U.

This drink is delicious- refreshing, sweet but crisp, and full of flavour. It is perfect with tonic and ice. Martini Rosso is the perfect summer drink and we have enjoyed it at many barbeques this summer with friends and family, it is an all-around favourite for us all now.

This bottle was my first time drinking Martini Rosso, I usually drink gin and tonics, lager or Aperol spritz, so it was great to discover new that I enjoy. I recommend trying it! I also love how versatile it is- there are so many cocktail recipes you can try out with it.

So refreshing.

I was using a much cheaper vermouth (Noilly Prat) and decided to try a finer liquor. The flavor difference is amazing. The Manhattan cocktail, along with a Luxardo cherry is now as fine as any I have ever tasted.

The NP vermouth was much flatter and lacked the depth of flavor and nuance that the Carpano offers. Definitely worth not being a cheapskate with vermouth and springing the extra money for this exceptional formula.

I have tried other sweet vermouth and hated them. I had generally substituted dry vermouth since I didn’t like the sweet versions. A friend suggesed I try a “good” sweet vermouth. While I had purchased more premium base liquors (gin, whiskey, etc) I had not bothered with premium additions.

My mistake! This is well worth the extra money. If you are not buying bottom shelf bottles, don’t buy bottom shelf vermouth!.

I have been using GALLO Sweet Vermouth to make Manhattans for decades. I used my last bottle and couldn’t find it at the business anymore. I searched the WEB and found your business was the only one that had it.

I’ve tried other sweet vermouths which were just as good but cost at least twice as much. The main flavor of a Manhattan comes from the whiskey. Best of all, you’re a local business.

I have never had vermouth and was curious what it was like so I grabbed a bottle tonight while picking up my other favorite wines. I came home and decided to just try it with some Pepsi zero (I did not have anything else to mix it with) and it’s not bad pleasantly surprised.

Definitely will be in my rotation. Light but flavorful and sweet but not syrupy.

It’s not the best. A little weak. I add extra bitters to my cocktails to make up for the lack of depth in this vermouth. That does the trick and you can’t beat the price.

Wow, we are impressed, to say the least. So our quest to find all USA made ingredients landed us on this vermouth to rotate into our mix of exceptional ingredients for our ultimate Negroni. This vermouth really pops our Negroni cocktails to a new level.

The sweet and spice are prominent on the front end while the mid and late flavors roll out quite subtly as herbaceous with a touch of bitter. What is so good about this vermouth is how it leads and extends all the other flavors for a fantastic roller coaster of the essential components of a Negroni.

We used the following in equal proportions: Leopold Bros. Gin, Leopold Bros. Aperitivo, and the Vya Vermouth mixed together first then poured over ice in glasses. Dreamy and dynamic concoction for a robust Negroni.

I usually buy Dolin sweet vermouth, but it’s been out of stock the past two times I have ordered so I bought this to substitute and to try it. I like it a lot! I use it for Manhattans.

For the price point, Cinzano really can’t be beat. I mean, Martini & Rossi may have it on the dollars and cents, but I always found the M&R to be thin and watery. The Cinzano has better flavor and texture.

Just the right amount of herbs (less oregano than M&R), citrus, and balanced, dark sweetness. It holds its own in a classic cocktail like the Manhattan or Martinez, but doesn’t overpower in something like a Negroni like a Carpano Antica might.

Yeah, you have to get a 750 mL bottle, but a simple a vermouth & tonic or Americano (1 oz Campari, 1 oz sweet vermouth, soda) can help you work through it with pleasure. Highly recommended.

This has a very strong tarragon flavor which is a little weird, some may find off-putting, but it is actually pretty decent quality in taste, a little bit better than that, good, which is surprising for something so cheap.

It tastes as good quality as other vermouths that cost $20 a bottle. It tastes like a decent vermouth that is made in Italy, not a cheap knock-off. I would say that this is a great value.

This was my favourite drink many years ago. I remember being around 19 yrs, I thought it was the bees knees. A classy drink with a great taste during the good old 90’s. I used to buy it at christmas for a treat.

I would always mix it with lemonade and of course, not forgetting a straw with some ice. A refreshing drink!!.

I love the test so much and it returns me to many years back on Christmas day in Baghdad.

I have traveled to many places in the world and am so impressed with my first experience with Noilly Pratt. I was pleasantly surprised at the nose of herbs and sweet notes of my first sip. Not a hint of bitterness.

I commented to my husband that in all of my years I will accept nothing less than Noilly Pratt from now on. Bravo!.

After years of making my Saturday martini with own brand supermarket vermouth I decided to try this. What a difference: smooth, silky and almost dry sherry flavours. I am finally drinking proper martiini, although I do like it shaken!.

Noilly Prat is one of the best vermouth around. Love it, fabulous in a Vodka Martini with Grey Goose for a sophisticated drink. Also great in cooking. It is a dry vermouth. Love it Great fast delivery from this company.

It’s definitely NOT the best choice if you’re looking to use it as a mixer. Not good for Manhattans or Negronis. It’s very similar to a Dubonnet Rouge. It’s probably at it’s best served alone over ice.

Doesn’t offer the complexity or bitterness necessary to mix well with spirits like bourbon or gin. “Sickly and thinly sweet” is my impression. Same as I get with Dolin.

Utilizing the same ingredients as Noilly Prat Extra Dry (with the addition of five more such as saffron and quinine), Noilly Prat Rouge Vermouth is deliciously well-balanced and sweet. The ideal component for classic libations such as the Manhattan and the Negroni, Noilly Prat Rouge Vermouth is also pleasant to sip on the rocks as well.

I’m assuming most people know how to make a Manhattan and/or Negroni without having to be told twice, so I’m going on an original limb and providing two recipes that greatly benefit from this rouge vermouth.

THE BOULEVARDIER – 1 1/2 ounce bourbon – 1 ounce Campari – 1 ounce Noilly Prat Rouge Vermouth Stir all three ingredients in a cocktail glass filled with ice, strain into a cocktail glass of choice, and garnish with a cherry.

PARK AVENUE – 2 ounces gin (Plymouth or Old Tom Gin is recommended) – 3/4 ounce pineapple juice – 3/4 ounce Noilly Prat Rouge Vermouth – 1/4 ounce orange curacao Shake long and hard in an iced cocktail shaker, and strain in an ungarnished cocktail glass.

My go-to vermouth wasn’t available so I picked this up on a lark. Seems less sweet than other red vermouths and it made a very respectable Negroni. Price is an amazing value.

The most delicious combination is Martini Rosso and 1: 1 grapefruit juice and a few ice cubes. Grapefruit juice perfectly sets off the bitterness of Martini, while adding acid that dilutes the sweetnes of the drink.

You can also use orange juice – there won’t be that bitterness, but there will be more acid.

This is such a popular refreshing drink. It has been one of our favourites for years and we always try to have a bottle in our drinks cabinet. It is especially delicious mixed with a tonic water or lemonade and garnished with a lime or orange.

The flavour is full and just the correct sweetness. Great to drink in these hot sunny days as it is so refreshing, I often think of it as a social drink when I have guests come to the house. The bottle is also unique and looks great displayed.

This is a wonderful sweet vermouth and helps make the best Manhattan cocktail I have ever had or made – I learned about Carpano Antica from a bartender named Mike at Cucina 24 in Asheville, NC. Mike makes the best Manhattan I’ve had with this and with Russell’s Reserve Rye, along with two specialty bitters.

Wonderful! Carpano is hard to find in Virginia so WineChateau is a great source.

Dolin’s Dry Vermouth has been my favorite for decades, primarily in martinis, but also I’ll admit that I can be a bit of a martini snob. For me, it’s all about the quality of the ingredients. I prefer a classic London Dry Gin over any of the cloying botanical-bombs, and a quality dry French vermouth vs.

any of of the Italian labels, which I find a touch too bitter, often with a funky, spoiled aftertaste. For only a couple bucks more than the other labels, it brings a wealth of freshness to the glass unavailable from the other brands.

I bought this to experiment with a lighter version of a Negroni. I use this together with a citrusy gin (Dorothy Parker) and Aperol. The Blanc heightens the orange flavor in the cocktail. It’s also great on its own – use a single large ice cube and an orange slice.

glad to see Total Wine keeps us in stock because it was a bit tough to get. how to make this French Martini: (this recipe makes two adult sized drinks) load up your shaker with fresh ice 2 oz of this Dolin Blanc add a long thin piece of fresh cut lemon rind shake the heck out of it for 15 seconds now add 9 oz Citadelle Gin stir with a big bar spoon for 30 seconds strain into the Martini delivery system glassware of your choice put three Merzetta queen olives on a stainless cocktail pick and place in each glass enjoy in moderation.

perhaps someone can come up with a better name for this than “French Martini” The Dolin Blanc is ever so slightly sweeter than the Dolin Extra Dry and it goes very very well with the criminally underrated Citadelle Gin.

Obviously you can vary the amounts to taste.

My impression of this vermouth is that it has a pervasive sweet grape candy flavor and not much else. Maybe a tannic 2-day old table wine finish, with a weird milk-cartons-in-the-school-cafeteria-dumpster aroma.

Not good. I tried it straight, on ice, in a Manhattan, Negroni, boulevardier. Same conclusion across the board. I prefer it over the pizza sauce flavor of Martini & Rossi rosso, but it is inferior to Gallo rosso.

Yes, this is inferior to Gallo (my opinion). Not for drinks you want to savor, but probably passable for a party or a dive bar.

We always used cheap Vermouth to make our Manhattans. We thought it was fine. Finding this was a game changer. Never knew what we were missing. This is a cut above and you can really tell the difference.

Try it and you will see.

I didn’t always like drinking dirty martinis until recently I decided to try again using this brand with vermouth. It was delicious! I paired it with Summum Vodka a premium french vodka with mezetta olives.

I highly recommend it!.

Recommended for use in fish recipes in Skye chef John Kellys cook book. It adds that little something extra to Cullen Skink, fish Pie and creamy fish and mussel sauces because of the extra herbs. Delicious.

As almost everything from Italy this Vermouth is excellent. In my opinion it is best served on ice with slice of a lemon. Perfect apéritif.

Argentina, land of immigrants, specially from Italy… Cinzano… fill glass with ice all the way to the top… fill 75% of the cup with Cinzano, 25% with carbonated water and add 1 slice of Orange or lemon inside the cup.

That’s it. Delicious.

This has a different flavor profile than any vermouth I have tasted. Has more citrus aromatics along with a hint of vanilla. Really pleasant in a Manhattan. I still use a 50/50 mix of this and Martini & Rossi red vermouth.

Then a tiny splash of Carpano Anitica Formula. That gives me the best aromatic results along with some Anogustora bitters. I can’t wait to try this in a Negroni as it seems to have a perfect flavor profile for that!.

Love it. I’ll drink it straight in a snifter, maybe with a dash of gin, or as a spritzer with sparkling water (with or without gin). Makes amazing Manhattans. It’s smooth, rich, very sweet but not too cloying.

We accidentally left an open bottle in the pantry for a few months, and surprisingly, it was still delicious. So, it keeps well!.

Tried making Negronis with different gins, but it was the vermouth that needed the upgrading. Cocchi Vermouth di Torino is the star of the drink and gives it a lot of sweetness and body. Even friends that hated other Negronis loved this one.

This is straight up the worst purchase I’ve made at Total Wine – and I previously ended up with completely oxidized dry vermouth before (bottle wasn’t correctly sealed). I’m amazed at how terrible this is compared to other sweet vermouths out there.

I picked it up because it was on sale and I gambled on saving 5 bucks from Cocchi di Torino – and it’s a bet I sorely lost. I’ve tried a number of sweet vermouths, and this doesn’t compare with bottles significantly below it’s price.

It’s cloyingly sweet to a degree that none of the botanicals can get anywhere near competing. Reminds me of an artificially sweetened fruit wine. (But there are much better artificially flavorted fruit wines out there too.

) If you’re looking for a di Torino style vermouth, spend an extra few bucks on Cocchi di Torino. If you’re looking to save money on a sweet vermouth – go with the cheaper Dolin Rouge. It was so bad that I created this account to try to warn other people of it’s malevolence.

Leave it to the Italians to make a beautiful, aromatic botanical gin. On the nose, the classic juniper aroma is recognizable, but the citrus and the floral notes come through without being astringent or like cleaning products.

On the palate, this gin is sooooo smooth. No harsh bite, no sourness. Just astonishing. However, the juniper fades and the citrus/botanical takes over. Although I like a more “pine” flavor, this has become my wife’s go-to gin.

Bought it because it sounded good and it bears the same name as a friend of mine. When first poured, the alcohol jumps out of the glass. After a few minutes, the florals are present. Not obvious the way Hendricks is like drinking a bouquet of flowers.

Maybe Lily or Peony. Woody brown spices like cinnamon and anise. Also an herb that comes across like rosemary and a bit of pithy bitterness. Definitely the stuff of a Martini or Gibson rather than gin and tonic where it would be lost, or sip it neat.

Complex and fun.

Fine blend of white wine infused with aromatic flavours of herb and a sweet floral taste with a hint of citrus and vanilla this is perfect to pair with soda water, tonic water or lemonade to make a spritzer add a slice of fresh lemon or lime and your in heaven.

You forget how hot it is and enjoy the sweet, citrus flavours. This is so nice you don’t even think about it being alcohol and more just a summer refreshment. The flavours are paired perfectly to compliment each other so you get just the right amount of each coming through.

I shared this with family at the weekend and everyone was asking where to buy it. This has quickly become my favourite drink for the garden, sun shining with a book. I highly recommend this to everyone I certainly will be buying more.

Hadn’t tried this in a while, but decided to give what I viewed as a retro drink, a whirl. Often used in cocktails, I mixed with tonic and ice for a more classic drink. The unique mix of aromatic herbs, that give the vermouth a distinct flavour, and the subtle citrus hint made for a refreshing drink.

Perfect for the summer party or bbq. Of course there are a host of cocktails for me to explore and try now I have it in the cabinet, and I cannot wait, having woken my love of this classic.
