I’m moving to a new house but leaving my home buyer with the watchdog big dog. This unit was fairly easy to install. I had to knock a second hole through my block as I ran a second line, but that was my choice.
Honestly I don’t lose power too often but during tropical storm Irene we lost power for many hours and the pump ran every 10 minutes. I watched the pump cycle nervously for a few minutes and decided to go to bed, hoping for the best.

Always assumed the watchdog could handle the worst. It did. This unit has been functioning for about 7 years and I’ve replaced my two batteries once. So a total of 4 batteries purchased. Cons:I don’t love having to fill the acid and also add the distilled water.
I found the water level monitor to be somewhat of a sham. It only monitors one cell in one battery. Somother cella can get dry and you’d never know. I bought a pitcher online to automatically measure and pour water into the batteries.
This made it much easier. As the unit got older, even with new batteries the charger seemed to run very frequently. This worried me, but the batteries seemed to have sufficient charge when I tested them so I decided if the control unit was getting older it was a smallPrice to pay for a dry basement.
I also had some issues with the “weep hole” andAirlock with this unit. Even with proper installation and calling the manufacturer this unit would airlock with a check valve. My vertical lift was not very high so I removed the check valve on the back up line only and never had anymore airlock issues.
But a back up needs to be relied upon, and I wish this unit didn’t have an airlock issue. If your water level in your sump pit is high this unit might airlock. Just a thought. Overall: good unit, worked for me.
Installed this unit for my sister-in-law. She lives alone and power outages occur often during storms. With extremely heavy rain sometimes sump has to run a lot. The sump hasnt had to be activated as of yet.
She has had one power outage and the system was activated on stand by but water was not a problem. Pump never actually had to operate. I assume pump would have activated if needed.

Nice setup. Pumps Well. Alarm functions as it should. Easy to install. Comments:1. The backflow provided in the kit is junk, which then does not allow you to install per Method A in the instructions.
And then renders the provided T useless. Plan to buy PVC pipe and fittings and plumb yourself. 2. EXPENSIVE! The pump and battery box are the SAME unit as provided in almost every other battery backup that is $100-$150 less.
I bought this setup due to the fact that the charging system had much better reviews than its competitors. You end up paying a premium for the charging system. 3. Float work well. Overall, nice unit, but it could be $75 cheaper and they would still be making a killing on it.
Added this pump to liberty cast iron pump. Compact size, good float, can use any marine battery from the mart. Nice quality wires and everything you need except the battery, teflon tape, pvc and glue.
Float is easy to adjust to the proper water level. The only thing that could be improved is the very small check valve. I added a Zoeller check valve to my installation to ensure no water would back flow thru the drain line.
Also check valve allows easy disconnect in case I have to remove pumps from sump pit. I married the two pumps together just like the Liberty combination sump pump kit. The kit is easier and comes with check valve for main pump.
If the power goes out I feel protected from a flood at least until the battery runs down. Generator will be the next step. But you have to be home for that.
Purchased liberty 441 backup sump pump and liberty 257 sump pump. I also purchased Costco 27m deep cycle marine/rv battery. $80. After installing to manufacture directions I flooded the pit with water.
257 worked great. I unplugged 257 to simulate power loss and 441 turned on but dud not pump. Tried a few times and it still did not work. I called liberty and they told me that back up pump needs to be on a 45 degree angle because the pump gets air locked.
They also said that they are in the process of rewriting their instructions. So I turned the pump on a 45 degree angle and it works fine. It was a simple fix and it pumps a lot of water.

massive Rainfall and power outage or primary pump failure. I bought this pump and a high quality marine battery so it ran me around $550 in addition to my Zoeller primary pump that is 3 years old. I had a pump fail a few years ago due to A sticky float switch and it cost me thousands to un **** my finished, carpeted basement.
If you have finished basement space, you absolutely have to have a trustworthy backup system like this. Zoeller is widely respected and trusted. Ask any plumber. I highly recommend. If I had one complaint I wish it was a more compact design because by the time you get it parked right on top of a primary pump you are really close to the drain tile inlets for the sump bucket.
The range of motion for the on/off switch on this pump is very short and the shut off point is well within the bucket inlet zone. I have a feeling that by the time it kicks in its gonna run continually and I kind of worry about it’s ability to keep up in really heavy rain situations.
Bought this as a replacement for my 1997 Zoeller backup pump and was pleasantly surprised at what I received. The picture is wrong. The charger is not the old beast but a much smaller unit with a front panel display and ablility to connect to hardware that enables texting you if you have a sump problem.
Additionally the assembly for the actual pump was much easier to install than the older unit. All in all, a great upgrade with Zoeller’s excellent dependability. When your dealing with a sump pump. Don’t fool around, get a Zoeller.
I thought it would never happen to me. but it did. After not raining essentially all summer long, we recieved about 3 days of much needed rain. My sump survived through all three days and once the rain stopped the float stuck in the off position.

I typically don’t write reviews for a product after not owning it for any appreciable length of time, but in this case this is actually my second Zoeller 508 system. The first I installed for the in-laws after they added on.
They’d always have “the annual basement flooding” where one of their three (yes, three) sump pumps would die during a storm, and water would start to rise (they have, as I’ve been told, an underground stream running through their basement).
Well, this pump was bought at my urging to help buy them enough time in case one of the primary pumps died to get a backup ushered in (or get backup power connected in case of an outage during a storm).
Initially I had it plumbed in to the primary pump’s discharge. For normal applications that would work fine. until one downpour where all four pumps were needed (inducing this one) to keep up with the water.
When this one kicked on it actually slowed the discharge rate of the well’s primary pump enough (by virtue of additional water pressure in the discharge line) to actually reduce total water discharge rate.
and flooded the basement. I have since added a dedicated discharge line for this pump to alleviate that (and that’s come in handy on more than one occasion since, as they have had a dry basement for over 3 years now – the previous “record” was about 18 months).
The pump was installed there about 3 years ago. Not once has the pump or battery had any issues. I have been so satisfied with its predictable, reliable performance in the high duty cycle application from that first installation that I decided to put one in at my new house.

First off, as of late 2019 the charger included with the 508-0005 is no longer the lcd readout version in the pictures here and elsewhere, but is the Aquanot Spin charger. The new charger has nothing but a couple LEDs and is rated at less amperage.
I purchased the 508-0005 in early 2019 and the charger never did behave properly. When I contacted Zoeller, they pushed me back to Supplyhouse which promptly sent me a replacement unit. Unfortunately, the new unit (pump & charger) was the Spin version.
When I again contacted Zoeller the rep was surprised that they had not changed the SKU when changing the charger to the (IMHO) cheaper version. They did still have the old chargers on hand and sent me one directly this time.
Why not the first time I called? In any case, I can’t recommend buying the new version as it does not have the functionality of tracking pump cycles or power outages and is rated lower. I also think it is quite sneaky that they left the SKU unchanged.
Even Supplyhouse didn’t know what was in the box. Now that they do, Supplyhouse should change the picture.
(Disclosure: I have owned multiple Zoeller AC pumps for years and have liked them very much. This is the first battery backup Zoeller for me however. )Installation was not a snap. The horizontal discharge when attached via the recommended PVC tee fitting to my existing AC pump made the assembly too wide to fit in my (standard size) sump pit.
I had to independently plumb the AC and DC pumps, place them to fit in the pit, and then plumb them together using a 45 elbow and a wye fitting. Not the end of the world, but definitely a time eater.
The inclusion of in line check valves for both pumps was an unexpected side benefit. The battery charger displays batt voltage and charging current continuously. When I first installed the unit using a new maintenance free marine battery, it started out charging the full 10 Amps, went down to 3 after a while (when the voltage was at 14.
2 v), and at that point I stopped watching. I came back several hours later and the voltage was 13. 1 v with no charge current. I was somewhat surprised as I expected some charge current of 25, 50, or 100 ma to top off the battery.
The manual speaks somewhat cryptically of a charging hysterisis, so the 0 charge current may be proper operation, but at this point, I’m not sure if it’s proper or I have a charger malfunction. With a little better manual, this might have been explained better.
The movement on the float switch is less than 2 inches, which means the pump runs often for short duration. Not inherently bad, but again, a little unexpected. None of these points are killers, just a little concerning.
With any pump, the ultimate tests are its pumping and reliability. Based on my previous Zoeller experience, I expect both to be great, but only time will tell.

I have a summer home at the NJ shore outside of Atlantic City. It is a 95 year old perfectly restored property that is 1 1/2 blocks from the beach. Last year I decided to install 3 of the Basement Watchdog Big Combo units to replace three standard pumps in my 1500 sq.
ft. basement. We have just experienced the devastation of Hurricane Sandy while physically being in Florida for the season. We lost power in the first day of the storm, most likely sometime Monday; and just had the power restored this afternoon (Thursday).
We had serious concerns first for our entire property and secondarily for the basement. Yesterday we discovered that our house has no damage whatsoever, and the basement had a couple inches of water.
Today someone physically entered the house and reported that the pumps were back up and running. The batteries were recharged and the basement was already clear of most of the water with only wet spots.
I suspect the three units handled the surge of the storm and lasted until the batteries ran out. Since the specifications are for 7. 5 hrs of continuous running, there is no exact way to tell how long they lasted with some intermittent cycling after the storm and high tides passed, but considering this once in a lifetime storm I cannot say enough great things about these units.
For anyone wondering why they should spend more money for these units than ones that cost a lot less- read this again.
I just got this system installed a week ago Monday, October 29, 2012 (actually 2:15 AM October 30) I just completed the install and got it plugged in no more than 10 seconds before the power went out.
It immediately went to battery operation and worked fine. I was surprised that it worked showing the battery as fully charged, as I had just put the acid in the battery about 15 minutes before completing the hook up.
I purchased the acid from a big box store which was the least expensive source. The acid price varied widely. The big box version comes in a plastic bag with a tube to feed it into the openings in the battery.
The bag contains the same as 6 bottles from other sources. I thought this would have to go through a charge cycle before it would work as back-up power, but apparently not since it worked as soon as it was connected.
The power was out until 12 PM the next day. I left the pump system working on battery until about 8 AM, when I hooked up my generator to power the key areas of the house. I do not know the long-term reliability as it has only been installed for a week; and that includes a new main Watchdog pump.
I installed the back-up pipe to feed into the main pump pipe and used two anti-back-up valves.

My sump pump combo finally died. (It gets a lot of use). This was easy to install with the existing discharge pipes I already had in place. One cut, pop the boot over both ends, (after snuggling up all those clamps), and in 15 min she was in and pumping water.
Had to adjust the float level, ( also easy). Doesn’t come with the wifi box, that is sold separately for $125, ( wish I had known at time of purchase). Still cost me FAR less than the $1800 a local plumbing company was going to charge me for a new system.
I would go this route again, hopefully I won’t have to for another ten years. Time will tell.
I have owned this set up for quite a few years. The one i just purchased is a backup. Just in case. The one i am using now is identical. It works great. My pump runs a lot. Never has failed. In fact the backup has never been needed.
Main thing is to keep everything clean. And check battery at least 2 or 3 times a year. Also unplug main pump to make sure backup pump is performing as it should periodically.
This product works as advertised and the install was easy. The directions strongly suggest using a wet cell battery with their brand name on it that requires maintenance. I was a little put off and stopped reading the directions when they suggested that using anything but the watchdog battery was not recommended.
There are better options offering more value, no wet cell maintenance and 100-120 amp hours.

Installation was simple, as the pump assembly is in one piece – so you add PVC, the included check valve, and some time connecting everything.
The instructions were clear and helpful. Zip ties were also included in the package. allowing me to tie the power lines to the PVC, making the installation look professional!My sump’s diameter is on the smaller side.
That said, the dimensions of the pump assembly were accurate and once resting on the bottom of the sump, there was sufficient room to situate the pump to accommodate the discharge line while preventing the floats from touching the sump’s wall.
Actually, I found the floats to be ‘smartly’ located, greatly reducing the risk to them being obstructed. I would make two changes if I could. ONE – make the 12v pump replaceable. (I was told only the 110v pump was replaceable and if the 12v pump had to be replaced, I would need to buy another complete assembly.
) TWO – make the battery box another two inches taller as many deep cycle batteries have a ‘carrying strap’ that adds to the battery’s height, making the lid not fit perfectly. NEITHER of the these things is a deal breaker in my book.
Both pumps are quiet workhorses and appear to be very well made. (Time and use will be the determining factors, but for now, I am pleased. )Suggestions:DO NOT bargain shop when buying a battery. Use the suggested rating as your starting point.
I live near a lake and have a high water table. I know that when I need that battery, I don’t want it to be a lightweight. PLUG your pump and your battery into separate outlets on separate circuits. This way, should you blow a fuse/breaker, you do not disable both pumps.
Just bought a new house and within the first month we were here the power cut out twice during a storm so we knew that we needed to look into a battery backup system. The old sump pump was a Zoeller which to be honest worked fine.
I imagine that it’s about 6 years old which is how old the house is, but it obviously won’t work without power. So as with everything I researched and probably over thought the whole thing. Long story short the Wayne WSS30V seemed to fit our needs, had extremely good reviews, and while not the cheapest was far from the most expensive.
The first thing that I noticed was that it is extremely quiet compared the Zoeller. Now part of that is the pump itself, but having the check valves inside the sump well makes it quieter. It’s a lot quieter.
Like I can’t describe how much quieter this thing is it’s unsettling after being used to the Zoeller. The one thing that I may have to address would be the height of the backup float. I did a test the other night during a storm where I unplugged all of the power and the height of the plumbing feeding the well are fairly low so there is a considerable amount of water that is rising inside of those pipes before it kicks on.
Another thing is that the backup pump is not nearly as powerful as the primary (to be expected). What I didn’t like was the fact that it didn’t pump out very much water before it kicked off. If I was designing it I would have it run a bit longer so that it wouldn’t turn on as often (at least that is what makes sense to me).
Of course the power has only gone out for a few minutes since I bought the pump so it does feel like I may have overreacted by buying this, but it just seems that most of the time that the power goes out it is during a storm which is when you need a sump pump the most.
Peace of mind and some insurance goes a long way. We’ll see how the long term performance is, but I feel pretty good about the purchase so far. The only thing that I will say that could be considered negative is probably more about my sump pit cover than this system.
My cover has the discharge hole fairly close to the edge (i. e. , not in the center) so it was a bit of a challenge to get the sump pump installed and lined up. I could have drilled a new hole or replaced the cover, but it did work out well.
I also made a wooden stand for the battery box to keep it off the cement not sure if the thin plastic battery box would insulate it enough to keep it from draining.
This is my second purchase of this excellent pump system. I bought my first one 6 years ago and it is still performing strong. When the spring storms come in, the water table in my area rises and my pump can run every 3 to 4 minutes for weeks at a time.
With a finished basement, a pump failure can mean an expensive flooding disaster. The 12V back up pump gives me peace of mind in the event the main pump fails or the power goes out. I purchased this entire system a second time in order to have in a full unit in reserve.

We purchased this product in 2017. My husband did extensive homework and the reviews on this product made it seem worth the investment of over $500! Thankfully we never needed it. until last night. A series of heavy storms has hit the midwest this week leaving our power out for 9 hours last night.
We went to the basement to find some water in our sump pit but thankfully not an alarming level because this product was worthless. The battery indicates it’s fully charged but the pump never kicks on.
When we try to manually initiate the pump it just beeps with no pumping of water. What a let down in our time of need and a waste of a lot of money. I would not purchase this brand again.
This backup sump works great until the battery fails. I have replaced the battery 3 times already. What i think is happening is that the Wayne battery charger does not switch to a ‘maintenance ‘ mode after the battery is fully charged.
It just keeps charging the battery as much as it can. Then of course the battery dries out in about 6 to 8 weeks. I fill the battery as often as i can, but if you forget then its another $150 battery.
Does anybody know if Wayne has an upgraded circuit board that would not overchargethebattery?.
Bought this battery back up system for power outages so I can have some peace of mind before I get my generator hooked up. Install was simple with basic plumbing knowledge. My pump didnt work and it kept blowing the fuse.
I contact Wayne and they sent a new control board and power cord. The pump operates now but only draws about an inch of water out of the pit on first activation. Each subsequent activation pulls about 3 inches of water from the pit.
Contact Wayne again and they said that shouldnt be. They sent me another control board. I will install it and see how it goes. If that fixes the problem I would rate the pump higher.

I live in an area with infrequent, but prolonged power outages, especially during tropical storms or unusual rain events. My sump pump never runs except these times, but its required to prevent flooding in my basement.
I have a 1/3 HP ejector pump, but need a backup pump in the event I’m away and can’t hook up my generator. Both pumps are in an 18″ diameter sump. VERY tight fit. I had to replace the input connector with a street elbow to get it to fit, which it did but just barely.
I’m somewhat disappointed in the flow rate I got, but it’s all there in the specs. The unit is plumbed with 1 1/2″ PVC, I used conduit sweep 90’s to reduce the back pressure. There is about 7′ of head, and about 25′ total pipe.
I ran 3/4″ PEX to an existing pipe within the house. My normal water pressure is about 65 PSI. With the unit running, the pressure at it’s input drops to about 25-30 PSI, more drop than I expected, this thing needs a lot of water to work.
Under these conditions the specs say it will be pumping about 6 to 9 GPM, which seems pretty close. If I were to do this over I’d run 1″ PEX back to the entrance for more pressure. It’s going to work for my purposes, but not with the comfort level I’d like.
I’d recommend it with reservations, you have to be very aware of the actual requirements to make it work. The reviews that complain it doesn’t pump are probably correct, but for a reason.
I live on an incredibly wet lot so having a good backup system is a necessity. This system is a much better hydro backup system than the previous one I had. The sumpJet pumped out the sump and french drains around my basement in what I thought was a very short period of time.
I can finally go on vacation and not worry about losing power and whether or not my backup system can manage for a extended period of time. It’s also taking the pressure of me to get an auto backup home generator.
Purchased this unit with the 1/2 HP main pump 6/2020. Installed pretty easily with no problems. Initial hook up to my wifi and in home network was a breeze. Fast forward to 3/2021 and the system will no longer connect to my wifi network – nothing in my home or network has changed.
If I reboot the router or lose power, the unit will not reconnect to my network after dozens of Aquanot resets and attempts. Have spoken with technical support at Zoeller. They may be experts in manufacturing pumps, but they are worthless when it comes to their wifi based products.
All they do is repeat what their instructions say. I can read myself. If you are looking at purchasing for the wifi and remote connectivity, dont waste your money, look at other manufacturers.
This is the system I’ve been needing. The main pump is quite impressive. It’s very heavy and of obvious quality, everything from the heavy cast iron frame, its paint job, and the switch, which is part of it and needs no adjustment.
The DC pump, on the other hand, is a cheesy little plastic number that does not instill the same kind of brute force awe that the main pump does. Its switch is not integral but is mounted on the discharge pipe.
It took some fine tuning to get it to turn on and off at the right times and the instructions could have been better. It would be nice if the DC pump were as powerful and of as obvious quality as the AC pump.
However, in all likelihood it will almost never run and why put a lot of money into something that is an unlikely participant in your pumping system? It’s the same reason the spare tire in a car is a little donut that is not anywhere near the performance and durability of the real tire — With any luck you will never have to use it.
Otherwise, I wish the wires from the DC pump to the battery were at least a foot longer so I could get the battery further off the ground. The plug for the AC pump is plenty long. I also found that the kit did not include the stand, which you really need to keep the pump off the bottom of the sump.
So I had to find and buy the proper stand separately and this delayed the installation of the pump. It really should be included with everything else. I did a lot of research before buying this system and it seemed like the best system for my needs and I am happy with the purchase.
I am hoping this turns out to be a good long term purchase, but my initial impression is that Zoeller did not take much care during the assembly process. About 1/2 of the pump case screws were loose, the plastic seal plugs in the area of the switch were loose, and the check valve in the main pump base was loose.
Fortunately for me, after confirming with Zoeller customer service these should all be tight, I was able to complete their missing assembly line steps. Not the way I expected a $700 product to show up, to be honest.
One other thing to be aware of. This 98 main pump in my case replaces an old 53 type main pump. The water level height in my sump crock to turn on the 53 was a fair amount lower than the water level height to turn on the new 98 pump.
While normally this might not be an issue, the installer of our sump crock has the two water inlet pipes to the crock entering at a relatively low level. With the new 98 pump and it’s activation height, the water level in our crock is now above the inlet pipe levels.
I really wish Zoeller listed a spec on water height activation level for their pumps, so I could have looked at this before picking a new 98 over instead a new 53 to replace my old 53. Now, instead, I need to figure out a way on the 98 I have to set a lower water level height to turn on this pump (which does not appear to be a setting from what I can see).

I bought this sump to replace a burned out battery backup sump that was sitting in my sump for a few years now. After two power outages and a flood, I decided it was time to replace it. I found this sump on your web site and it fit my needs perfectly.
I already had two marine batteries so all I needed was the pump and the case. The product arrived very quickly and came with easy instructions. There was a little bit of damage to one of the connectors that must have happened during shipping but it was only cosmetic and did not affect the sumps performance.
The sump signals when power goes out and also when the battery gets low. The only thing I didn’t like was the float switch. I had a similar float switch on my aquariums auto top off system and it went bad after about a year.

I replaced my sump pump with this combination system and it was a breeze to install. It appears to be high quality, is quieter than my previous pump, and started right up. It is recommended that the backup system should be plugged into a surge protected outlet, $20 at the hardware store, and peace of mind.
I had one minor issue. The manual says that the unit “. measures 23 3/4 inches from the bottom of the pump to the top of the Y-connector where it will be attached to the discharge pipe. ” It then says to measure the distance from the bottom of the pit to the end of the discharge pipe and subtract 24 3/4 inches and cut a piece of pipe to that length.
The math didn’t didn’t look right so I measured the unit and it is NOT 23 3/4 inches but rather 17 1/2 inches. I put the pump in the pit and measured from the top of the Y to my discharge pipe and cut that length.
The old adage “measure twice and cut once” never fails.
We purchased this last year for peace of mind during the rainy season and had it installed in the summer. We had our first chance to see it in action and haven’t slept for many nights. These are the noisiest check valves I’ve ever heard.
You would think for the money you’d get top rated quiet check valves but no. Every time the unit shuts off, you hear a loud thud from the flapper closing. This is, also, not an easy fix. When the two check valves come installed, the float is attached in a way that doesn’t make it easy to replace and you have to make accommodations for your piping for the taller footprint.
There should be considerable thought in manufacturing these with quiet check valves. I won’t purchase again but they already got my $800.
Purchased pump upon recommendation of my plumber friend. Received pump with instruction saying it was a new design. Installed it, but primary pump did not work. Called Glentronics and was told it was the new style of the pump and to try drilling a weep hole about 6 inches from the top of the pump output pipe.
Still not working. Had to return pump for another new one. The next pump was the slightly older style but this time it worked properly and I did not have to try an jerryrigging of the pump like first time.
Not rating pump a 5 out of 5 because of the problems. Direct Sump told me to talk to manufacturer, Glentronics, instead of just replacing my bad pump in my first call for help.

I have to pump out only 12 feet out of basement and it empties the pit in just 6 seconds , and the pump runs on timer much longer after all the water is gone. I am not sure if there is a way to reduce the run time.
But the pump is great little machine, power full and effient. I bought the DEEP CYCLE battery from Walmart. Its 120Amphrs. Most of watchdog batteries are 65Amphrs. I have also installed a float switch which runs a buzzer with 3.
7v independent 80db buzzer if main pump fails and before back up pump starts, once back up pump starts and water goes down, buzzer stops. I hope this will help some one.
Relatively easy to install, particularly if you’ve done any kind of work with ABS/PVC piping previously. The only real unexpected hurdle was getting appropriate holes in the sump cover for the additional piping without actually destroying the sump cover or compromising the seal.
A standard hole saw bit worked well. A general note on this particular model for anyone who might have missed this. There is no way to connect this to the WiFi module should you want to do so in the future.
If you want this kind of connectivity buy the appropriate model up front that includes WiFi connectivity.

Installed this system along with twin ION 33 Sump Pumps just in the past 2 weeks and I’ve slept better and worried less about water in my basement then ever before. Just had a Chicago wind/rain storm blow through and it worked like a charm.
Lost power briefly and the SUMPRO kicked in, sounded an alarm, and after a short delay ran my pump. Power wasn’t out for long so I can’t comment on total runtime on battery power. I have my Comcast Modem & Wireless Router connected to the SUMPRO system and it provided WiFi for the short time the power was out.
Not inexpensive but after messing around with various arrangements battery of Backup /Dual Pump Systems I think I’ve found the best solution short of a Whole House Generator at a fraction of that cost.
I was first introduced to the existence of the SUMPRO when, several years ago, I sought quotes to update our basement water-handling. The most credible quote included the original version of the SUMPRO.
While we didn’t upgrade at the time, the SUMPRO was always the unit I wanted. Now, with the newer model, I finally “took the plunge”, and am very happy I did! The unit, in spite of its weight, was shipped and received with no damage to the shipping boxes so common these days.
Installation was easy, and the unit worked flawlessly. One note to new owners, is that the charge indicator doesn’t generally go to 100% mine stabilizes at about 95%. I called the manufacturer, and confirmed a range of 92% – 98% is normal, at full capacity.
I’m guessing this is to accommodate a wide variety of battery types, with the capacity gauge measuring only voltage. While I also have a 12V backup system, I really wanted a 120V backup too. A stand-by generator is noise-prohibitive per local ordinances, so battery backup is what worked best for me.
On one hand it is hard to get too excited about a backup power supply for a sump pump. The goal is to never have to use it BUT given the flooding in the basement when the power failed it seemed a prudent measure.
The unit is good quality and easy to setup. It is a bit heavy so plan on a couple people to put it together and at least 2 people if you have to move it once assembled. Assembly was easy, just connect two batteries and connect the “brains” of the unit to the battery compartment with a couple screws.
Took about 10 minutes and it was powered and providing power to the sump pump. Hope I never need it but feel confident it will do the job in the event we do.

No issues so far with the equipment ( purchased 3 weeks ago) except the eyelet on the monitor was to0 small on the negative side so it did not fit on a typical battery negative post. I needed to enlarge the hole with a rat tail file and it then fit.
My only issue was with the female sales person. She was no help on where I could purchase cover to the sump pump hole to control radon gas. The one I have had to be destroyed to enter the primary sump pump well.
In addition, when following up to the order, she was not accessible or reachable. I had to communicate at least 3 additional sales staff. Also, be aware the 30 day return policy starts when you order not when you receive the product.
Ask for a receive date. The manual seemed to be clear and correct in the various install approaches. Further, the lack of the inside diameter of the battery case when closed should be measured so your battery choice will fit the case.
Before ordering, be aware of your water lift and extension distance to the outside. The sales person never brought it up until I asked the question. Finally, the equipment is not supported by Sump Pump Direct.
It is your responsibility to reach out to the manufacturer for problems after the 30 day return policy.
I’m using this with a 300ah Life po4 battery and it’s working great. I forgot to replace the GFCI outlet on the sump pump when we moved into the new house like the plumber told me to and it tripped on two separate occasions both in the first two months and both at night.
This worked perfectly and the alarm alerted me when I got up both times at 3am to take some medication. Popped the GFCI outlet both times and the primary pump started working again. Since changing the GFCI outlet out to a regular one no issues.
Glad to know that it works as designed so it’s now something I don’t worry about.
The biggest feature of this battery backup unit is the fact that it will run on AC power if your main pump fails (unrelated to a power outage). I also like the option for the WiFi module. It will send email alerts if the system encounters any faults or if the pump is activated.
Installation was fairly simple and after testing the pump a few times, it seems to have more pumping power than most standard main sump pumps. The only negative I observed is the fact that the pump is made mostly out of plastic.
Bottom line, this is a pretty good value considering all of its features and youll sleep better (home and away) with this battery & AC power backup.

This sump pump replaced a Zoeller that was 24 years old. The pre-plumbed back up is really nice and easy to install. The previous pump had a 1 1/4 outlet, based upon recommendations I installed a new 1 1/2 outlet.
The performance is outstanding. My sump pit is very narrow so I was very concerned about the fit, but this installed and fit nicely. The instructions are top notch and make it very easy to install. You will have to purchase a battery.
I went with a high quality/ high capacity AGM battery. The battery housing fit the largest capacity AGM I could find without issue. The 508 control panel works great and the lights are very easy to understand.
It took some fiddling around with and I had to reposition the DC back up pump over the main due to the large width but it was well worth it. Works flawlessly so far. Definitely one of the top sump pump companies out there.
Quality through and through. I read a few reviews stating the side pump was metal. It is not. Its some kind of compressed hard plastic. Better IMO because of the weight savings. Side pump kicks on when its supposed to.
The alarm sounds when its supposed to. Main pump works perfectly. Highly recommend this. Just be ready to reconfigure it. I believe its wider than most basins.
I bought this same pump last March for one of my sump pits. It’s much easier to install being that it is an all-in-one unit. No separate piping for pump and backup. When I received the pump there was oil leaking out of the box due to delivery mis handling.
I sent a few pictures of all the damage inside and a brand new pump arrived a few days later. “Supply House” did an outstanding job to insure complete customer satisfaction!.

I have waited before writing a review on this item. We finally had a lot of rain and thunderstorms and winds and lost power at the same time. This unit would not even run my sump pump for even 5 minutes! That was totally unacceptable for us.
We only needed about 15 minutes run time to go to the garage, get the generator, bring it up to the house and get it going. I did not expect to be running my sump pump for hours with this unit, but I had expected 15 to 30 minutes.
That would have been enough time to not have ended up with water in my basement. I can not recommend this item to anyone. I am so upset with this. If I could return it I would. And yes, we made sure by the specs.
shown that it could supposedly handle our small sump pump. What a nightmare! This is the first time in my life I have written a poor review on anything I have ever purchased.
This UPS works as described, I am not sure how long it can support my 1/2HP sump pump, need more time to make the conclusion. But the MAJOR DESIGN FLAW is that if the UPS shuts off due to drained battery, your sump pump can not be reconnected to the electricity automatically, even if after the city electricity is back on.
You have to manually turn it on, then the sump pump can be powered. A simple redesign of the control can easily solve this issue. Hopefully the manufacturer can see my review and redesign it.
This is pretty inexpensive for what it does but it doesn’t work with the Zoeller M95 which is a 1/2 horse power pump. The box has no info on what its specifications are other than works with 1/2 horse power pumps.
I charged it for 8 hours and then unplugged it to simulate an outage. As soon as the pump kicked on it shut down the battery backup. So what would have happened is if I lost power for 10 min during a storm when the power came back on I wouldn’t have a pump since the UPS would need to be restarted.
I purchased a 585 aquanot back up in 2009 after a few prolonged power outages, and after seeing all the furniture, rugs, etc stacked up throughout my neighborhood waiting for garbage day. Fortunately I had a generator to use and was home when the power went out.
I decided I better have a strong back up sump installed and was recommended the aquanot as a superior unit. Soon after installation the power went out for about 6 hours and the back up worked fine. Power outages here occur from very heavy radar red storms, so a high volume pump is especially necessary to keep up with the water flow.
Aside from the one storm that I can remember the back up rarely ran again. The village must have improved the power grid as outages have become rare. None the less I keep my pump ready. The original 28 amp charger went bad around 5 years ago so I bought a 4 amp battery tender to replace it.
The Zoller dealer wanted about $400 for a new one and the tender was around $50. The only advantage to high amps is that a pretty dead battery will re-charge in 4 hours as opposed to 24. After the storm has passed, I don’t see a need for a super fast charge.
I test the unit every 3 months by manually lifting the float. Every year of two I will also unplug my main pump in short heavy storms to give it an hour of emptying the basin. After 12 years it still empties fine.
I have replaced the battery with a group 31, 105 ah agm deep cell battery. My current one is about 3 years old and holds a charge quite well. The agm are about $100 more expensive than a comparable wet cell but I feel there will be less chance of acid fumes in the closed basement.
I have friends that have purchased less expensive back up units but I feel the 585 has been worth the extra peace of mind.
Typical Zoeller high quality pump that actually performs better than my primary Zoeller electric pump! My only complaint is with the very low quality brass adjustment stops for the float adjustment. These stops slide on the adjustment rod until tightened with a single brass slotted head set screw.
They proved very difficult to make adjustments while the pump was sitting in our pit, something necessary for me to fine tune the on and off water level settings. For a pump that is very high cost if not the highest cost Zoeller should have used better adjusters.
At least use a more friendly and durable torx or Allen head set screws. I purchased 2 Zoeller batteries and wired them together for a longer run time just to provide more peace of mind. But, the Zoeller batteries are very expensive as well.
Hopefully it all works as promised and stands the test of time.
We purchased this backup pump and battery just over a year ago, and it was installed by a professional. Tonight our power went out for the first time. Can you believe the backup pump battery did not work? I am unbelievably frustrated that a top of the market backup pump DID NOT WORK after just 1 year.
Our basement would have flooded within 60 minutes. Fortunately, the power was only out for a short period of time. The alarm did sound, but the backup pump did not come on. What a waste of money. if our power went out in a rain storm we would have been flooded.

I see a lot of reviews that don’t seem to indicate if the buyer has actually had this unit come on yet. It’s important to research your pump’s electrical requirements. The important number to keep in mind for this backup is the 7.
5 amperage rating. And even with that rating, I think this backup is NOT adequate for many pump applications. The 1/2 HP advertisement is a stretch in my testing of this unit. I tested this backup against a Everbilt 1/6 HP utility pump (2.
9 amperage) – at a full charge, the battery readout immediately went down to 20 minutes estimated run time (with a 2 out of 5 load capacity showing). Once I turned off the pump, the est run time returned to 500+ minutes.
After 6-8 8-10 second cycles, the est run time remaining was 18 minutes. (keep in mind that’s total ‘run’ time, so depending on how much water is coming into your pit, that could potentially last 1-2 hours in ‘real time’) So, while it could potentially power some lower HP pumps for a while, I wouldn’t get too confident with this unit.
