14 Best Space Documentaries On Amazon Prime (2023 Updated)

Journey to Space wasn’t quite what I expected when I purchased it. it. It did a good job looking back in time to the first rockets. Much of the movie was about the future, and with Patrick Stewart hosting the movie, we are allowed to assume everything up to Faster Than Light (FTL).

It’s too early for that!.

Nice, informative video. Was $15 and I purchased it to help test out the new 4K TV and 4K Blu-ray drive I got my mother. The content was something that would interest her. Looked great and had pretty up to date content about the NASA and commercial companies racing for Mars.

If you like space documentaries, you will enjoy the HD cinematography. You’ll like the Space Shuttle launches and Hubble video but the discussion toward future travel to Mars is driven by some CGI. Not a bad video but shorter than I thought it would be.

This is the best this movie has looked and sounded. Did I need it in 4k when I had it in DVD and bluray already? No. Did I buy it anyway? Yes. Should you? Collectors? Yes. Don’t own it already? Yes. Already own it on DVD or bluray.

This 4K UHD is amazing! It’s clear, sharp and colorful thanks to the HDR. I was blown out of seat but this restoration. Event the Blu-ray in this set has been remastered. I highly recommend this set for anyone who is a Spaceballs fan! All special features from past editions are on this set!.

There is no digital code included with this 4k version unfortunately which really lowers my review. The transfer looks almost the exact same as the blu ray, and in some parts doesn’t even look as good as it is quite grainy on a 4k TV.

I love the movie, just not the quality of this disc. this should be a $10 or less movie.

So, why isn’t it? Lack of digital copy? No. at the low prices RLJE releases their films at, (the incredible Mandy (also starring Nic Cage going back-to-back in his frantic best since Vampire’s Kiss for RLJE,) and Bone Tomahawk being other must-owns from them,) it’s become standard for their films to bypass this feature.

A true shame, because of how good their films have been. The loss of a star is simpy due to the lack of HDR in a film that demands it- “color” is right in the title. The film itself, the performances, the FX, music.

ALL of it is 5 star material, otherwise. For those unfamiliar, COOS is based on an HP Lovecraft story, and he’s often been given some great treatments, and COOS may be the best yet. (The story has been given several film treatments, and if you enjoy 80s horror, the film, The Curse, was also based on COOS).

A meteor falls in the backyard of Cage and his family’s isolated cabin, and a plethora of strangeness begins- from strange smells, the disappearance of the meteorite, voices from their well, mutations to animals, loss of time.

from madness to body horror, COOS has everything in place to bring the creepy vibes. The film did more than bring Nic Cage’s crazy voice from Vampire’s Kiss back, it also brought director Richard Stanley out of a 2 decade long retirement, who has stated this is the first in an HP Lovecraft trilogy, with The Dunwich Horror on deck next.

One can hope he handles each of the next films with such care, and if so, HP Lovecraft fans are in for a real treat.

I wasn’t sure what to think of this movie when it first came out, but my growing appreciation of late-career Cage (Mandy, Willy’s Wonderland, Pig) led me to pick up this movie based on the HP Lovecraft novel of the same name.

and boy, am I glad I did. This is an engrossing, startling, and at times truly shocking tale of a family torn asunder by the unknown. A must for fans of Lovecraft, or just creepy psychological body-horror and The Unlocked Cage himself.

Great to see a Lovecraft text so painstakingly manipulated and re-imagined for the modern era. Richard Stanley has a clear-eye for the often unattainable images that emerge from such an uncomfortable figure in horror literature.

The familial dynamics and the deliberate pacing goes hand in hand in connecting buried trauma with cosmic dread. It stumbles in the final stretch and budgetary constraints keep this from reaching the height of late-80s/90s Lovecraft adaptations, but it’s mostly sturdy.

Nicolas Cage, as always, is one of the bravest and greatest performers to ever step in front of a camera. He brings back his Vampires Kiss accent for some scenes which is a bit weird but fun in a goofy way.

Recommended for horror fans or fans of meticulously crafted mental breakdowns.

I really enjoy watching this I gave it four stars because it’s not the version that I’m watching on Netflix and that’s what I thought I was purchasing when I typed in the universe but I still like it it’s very informative and it’s relaxing and I like watching stuff like this.

This is a great DVD that should be shown in science classes, if it hasnt already. Great watch with many interesting facts. check it out when you can. This great even for beginners who have little to no knowledge.

This gives you great in-depth information on the creation of the universe while explaining it in a way that you can understand. If time permitted, then I would watch this from start to finish.

I bought this for our family to watch and it has been great. The kids are really interested and the graphics are great. We’ve all enjoyed it. Because I read some reviews I didn’t buy the blue ray. A review said that for this first season series, only the persons who gave commentary were in HD.

This was a lot less expensive than the blue ray and well worth the price.

My dvd showed up early, which i was very happy about. The wrapping stuck to the glue of the padded envelope, but luckily, the case was undamaged. The movie was in excellent shape, played with no pausing or glitches, and was nice and clear.

It has closed captioning, which I’m thankful for, as I have hearing issues. Not all movies at this low price has captions. If was well worth the cost!.

Have you ever wondered what happened to the Face? And why hasnt NASA investigated the Cydonia Plane on Mars yet? Still a question to be answered.

Classic movie that shows how he need to explore can take us eto another planet. We have only been on a moon called “Moon”. Not yet a planet.

The sound is stunning. On the whole, the movies play nice on my 4K TV. They are noticeably sharper than 1080p resolution movies. However, what is disappointing is the fact that none of these movies support HDR or wide color gamut.

Hence the reason I took a couple stars off. Disappointed with “Grand Canyon Adventure” as it’s mostly about the Colorado river (not exactly about the Grand Canyon) and following Robert Kennedy Jr. and his family on a trip.

Nothing very exciting. Was hoping for more “beauty shots” and a different educational aspect.

Since I had never seen an IMAX movie. The picture is not perfect because it was recorded in large format film for IMAX but it fills up the whole screen and looks great. There are no bars on the top or bottom which is exactly what I was looking for.

There is a slight graininess to the movie but that is from the original film. The movie looks great on 4k it is just missing the HDR. Also all the narrators were really good and most of them are famous actors.

I thought it was a little funny that they had Bill Paxton as the narrator to the tornado portion since I remember seeing him in “Twister”. Overall it is a good film.

If you’re into IMAX movies, this EXTREME ADVENTURE COLLECTION set in 4K is one to buy. The transfers are all excellent in 4K. The problem with this set is that all 3 titles are uneven. GRAND CANYON ADVENTURE: RIVER AT RISK is the best of the set, narrated by Robert Redford.

HIDDEN UNIVERSE is a documentary about our solar system. TORNADO ALLEY is the weakest of the set. My set cost $15 translated to $5 per title. You can’t beat that! The resolution in 4K is incredible.

I will start by saying TNG is my favorite Star Trek series tied with DS9. The reason I am unable to pick a clear-cut favorite is that they are such different shows. DS9 is quite a radical departure from other Trek series, with moral ambiguities and arching storyline stretching not just several episodes, but seasons.

This allowed for longer and more meaningful story arcs and character development, but that also means the series is harder from someone to jump into. Most TNG episodes are nice little units where everything is resolved and back to normal by the end of the show, or the end of a 2part episode.

That made it easier to attract new fans and makes the series more suitable for networks to air repeats as the episodes dont need to be run in order. They each have their pros and cons, but personally prefer the greater depth overarching stories give.

The moral issues are some of my favorite facets of the show, but once again this can be a turn off to dedicated treckies as it flies in the face of Gene Roddenberry original concept of star trek being a utopian society with no money and every culture being represented equally, he even didnt want weapons to be included with the original series.

While I respect his vision, DS9s departure from that gives the characters greater depth and more relatability. In fact, with the shows movement to the Dominion war is more relevant now than it was when originally aired.

The show covered anguishing decisions made in war as well as issues such as PTSD. Pretty deep issues for a Star Trek series, but it does have its share of traditional Trek themes and episodes too with the later seasons becoming darker and darker.

If you can come to terms with the fact that this isnt your fathers Trek, the series is amazing. The acting is top notch and the character development and evolution is unparalleled in a Trek series. It marked a high point for me with Star Trek as I felt Voyager was just ok I couldnt get into the actors quite as well, and Enterprise was unwatchable for me.

I hope this review helps a few people! Definitely give the show a chance!.

This series kept my attention! I found myself watching a whole disk at one time; even to the point of going to bed at 1:30 in the morning! I thought Deep Space Nine had even better characters than the other series (and I love them all)! I do wish that more episodes could have implemented more of the characters from Next Generation.

Having Worf in the final seasons was great!!! Of course, Chief O’Brian being there all the time was amazing as well! Would like to have seen Counselor Troy again. Even though I loved the series, I wish that Odo and Kira would have stayed together!! Also, there needed to be a few more episodes to implement Captain Sisko learning from the prophets and being able to come back to his family! However, all in all, this series definitely continued the Star Trek saga to my satisfaction!!!.

DS9 is one of the best, most well thought out of the series. The characters are engaging, dramatic, and funny. Even the most insignificant character seems to be a powerful addition to the story line.

If you’ve seen it, it is worth owning and if you haven’t the same advice applies. A haven in space where different species and cultures learn to cohabitate for the betterment of all. Interests include: action, adventure, romance, comedy, thriller, and political intrigue.

One of my favorites in the Star Trek Universe.

This is the kind of book one needs in their reference library. It’s great for all ages, and has great conversation starting points for learning about space. It is illustrated well and is of excellent quality.

We found this book in the store, but all the copies in stock were pretty well-loved by other customers so we ordered it to be delivered. It took a couple of weeks to get, which was a real bummer. But the book itself is really cool.

My 6 year old son loved flipping over all of the pop-ups, and we love that it’s really educational at the same time.

We just bought this book for my son’s 4th birthday, and he loves it! It is very informative and has lots of flaps and other interesting pop-ups that he loves. It is well made and has good artwork.

This DVD is amazing and a real eye opener to the fortitude and courage and intelligence of our brave astronauts. Their sacrifices for the learning process. Imagine having to design systems and transport that could NOT be tested completely to carry you and your crew to a place we had no POSITIVE info on.

They made educated, trained decisions that had NO room for error or they wouldn’t come back to earth. If you watch this DVD and let it sink in, these guys are the truest example of the American courage and spirit we can be ever so proud of, just like our military protecting us, they don’t even think about how easily their lives can be taken for the greater good and our safety.

I get discouraged when folks trivialize what these amazing guys accomplished. As in the movie Apollo 13, network stations DID NOT carry this. simple minded and shallow come to mind, but that is a whole other issue.

The bottom line. the best of the best of our test pilots and military genius DID what NO ONE ELSE ever has, BEFORE or AFTER. They risked everything dear to them, their lives here on earth, families they love.

They worked tirelessly with excruciating schedules and deadlines and pressure to achieve President Kennedy’s challenge. They put us in a class by ourselves, superpower. They did it with precision, class, and made it look so easy I feel that’s why so many did not appreciate what they really did to accomplish this huge feat.

This wonderful DVD is a true eye opener to what it DID TAKE to get there and back, you HEAR it from THEM, the horses mouth so to speak. NOT a report, the astronauts themselves telling you how they felt, the raw emotions, the overwhelming feelings of actually looking back at earth, stepping on the moon, ALL OF IT.

I watched this first on Netflix I think, and I HAD to add it to my personal collection. IT IS A MUST HAVE to inspire you of our integrity and what the true American grit and spirit is all about. When you watch this you will want to shake their hands personally and THANK THEM for their contributions to make this nation great, I am truly humbled and inspired to be a better American every day.

Ron Howard, thank you too for absolutely hitting it out of the park! I have loved you since Mayberry, you’ve come a long way! EXCELLENT. Folks, when you’re a little discouraged with the antics of our country or politics and squabbling of today, pop this in and you will be reminded of what the USA is REALLY all about, you may even get a tear in your eye, but your pride will get awakened if it has gotten a little “dusty”.

I want to tell you that this movie changed my mind about NASA. My uncle and I used to debate each other at every family event. I used to argue that NASA was a waste of time, money, and resources. I was dead wrong.

This film is a documentary of interviews with most of the remaining Apollo Astronauts who went to the Moon. These men are all in their 70’s now and finally they have had their chance to talk about their incredible experiences.

I’m glad Ron Howard produced this movie before any more of them walk on. They Apollo Program is probably the greatest endeavor the US ever did. In less than 10 years we created the technology that allowed us to visit the surface of our closest neighbor, the Moon.

Personally I consider it the greatest thing we’ve ever done. If the US would tackle the energy crisis and global climate change with the same vigor, leadership, and determination that those of the Apollo Program had, we will succeed.

I thoroughly enjoyed hearing the Apollo veterans talk of their experiences. I realized that these are normal guys who rose to the challenge and did great things. There was new footage of their time on the Moon which was digitally cleaned up.

It looked great. My only disappointment was that Neil Armstrong did not participate in this film, but that was not the fault of the production team. As a space buff I recommend to anyone who has an interest in space.

I would also suggest getting those born after the 1960’s to view this film so they can get a glimpse of what Apollo was all about.

The over all feel of the show is sometimes terribly odd. Just not as funny as it has been made out to be. Disappointed to the fact this is the first time Simon Pegg and friends have not been enjoyable.

This is a great show about two twenty-somethings, Tim and Daisy, who pretend to be a couple so they can obtain an apartment. They’ve only known each other 2 weeks. Clever jokes and references to movies, video games, sci-fi and tons of other stuff had me rolling on the floor with laughter.

I was apprehensive at first, afraid there might be a bunch of culture jokes, British jokes I might not get, but it’s not like that at all. There are many references to American television shows, in fact.

Tim’s friend Mike is hilarious as a military obsessed bloke but always there when needed. And I think we all know someone like the character Twist, self-obsessed and shallow as a pie pan. I’m sure we’ve all had a cooky landlord at some point, or a neighbor who was just not quite right as Tim and Daisy incure both at the same time.

The writing is smart and quite clever, but doesn’t go over ones head. The acting is excellant and it’s obvious that each actor is in love with his or her character and it really shines through. For those of us who’ve sat through a marathon of all three Star Wars films, Spaced is a tribute to geeks alike without being too nerdy.

Even if you’ve never picked up a comic book in your life, you’re sure to relate to at least one character flaw in this series. What makes is so funny I think, besides the brillant writing behind it, is that the people playing the characters are not “Friends”.

There’s no “Joey” or “Rachel” or “Chandler”. These are REAL people, folks! I appreciate shows that for once, do not cast the entire show with super models. The greatest downfall of this show? That it lasted only 2 seasons, a total of 14 episodes.

The bonus materials are wonderful as well, primed for a couple good re-watchings with original commantaries and new comentaires with well knowns such as Kevin Smith and Quintin Tarentino. Loads of blooper reels, hilarious bios, and much more is included with each disc as well as a bonus material disc.

The great series such as Titus, Furturama and now Spaced, as I’ve discoverd, never last long enough to fill the void that is left when the series is cancelled. But perhaps that is what makes these short lived gems so great: The fact that they DON’T drone on and on for ten or even twenty years.

Remember when The Simpsons was considered funny? Me either. My memory is not what it used to be!.

Probably the funniest show you’ve never seen! This show debuted in the U. K. in 1999, and i was fortunate to see it on one of my visits to England! The first two episodes are a little slow, as they lay the fondation for the entire series, but after that buckle up and enjoy the ride! The humor is very English and very rooted in sci fi/fantasy, with multiple references to star wars, Buffy the vampire slayer, evil dead, x files, etc! The only downside is U.

K tv seasons are very short, so the entire series is only twelve episodes, leaving you wanting more! Release in the U. S. was delayed years due to copyright laws on the music used throughout the series! Buy it, it’s worth every penny!.

This is a thoroughly engrossing, highly entertaining trip from here to infinity. Its the only one of its kind Ive ever seen. Great for the whole family, at least those who look up at the night sky and wonder.

There are NO actors, only awesome narration.

Very well done but it does leave you with a sense of humans leading a pointless life and no hope of an afterlife. The movie does point out that “creation” happened and there is no explanation as to why and when.

If we are truly leading pointless lives, then what is the point of the afterlife when there is no hope? 95% of the Earth population believes in a Creator God and over a billion people hang their eternal hope on the salvation given by Jesus Christ.

it’s clear this movie does not.

We really have no true conception of just how huge, beautiful, mysterious, and wonderful our Universe is. This video does a great job helping to see that by using real pictures from telescopes and marrying those with quality computer animation.

Brilliantly done. Wow! How amazing it all is.

Absolutely a fun comedy by a legend him self. Mell Brooks. Interesting how they spooofed on everything and the Star Wars saga with absolute respect yet in a funny way. I enjoyed it. My favorite part was in the desert.

The ridiculously large column combing the surface of the desert. That was a clever joke.

This movie is an absolute classic and is more quotable than ever with the resurgence in all the new star wars’ movies. The Blu ray has many great behind the scene interviews as well which I had never seen before.

Plus, you can’t beat all of this for 5 dollars. I highly recommend buying the physical version over digital since this is one of those movies if you buy it on Itunes it won’t appear on other streaming platforms like movies anywhere.

Spaceballs is a spoof of many popular movies of that time period. It is a bit cheesy at times but still entertaining and funny. it would be a good addition to your movie collection.

This movie from Mel Brooks is in keeping with his zany manner of putting foolishness on film. It is meant to be a parody of the very popular “Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope” movie. It also relies on the well-worn plot device of the bride running out from the wedding at the last minute.

Brief snippets of the movie also lampoon other popular science fiction movies. Princess Vespa is scheduled to marry a boring Prince Valium, but at the last minute she departs with her golden droid in waiting Dot Matrix.

When captured by the evil Dark Helmet, Lone Star and his sidekick Barf (half man and half dog) are convinced to attempt a rescue in order to get a substantial reward. Metaphors are taken literally, for example Lone Star jams the scanners of the ship of the evil empire by smearing actual jam on them.

When ordered to “comb the desert” in looking for the rescued Vespa, the soldiers of the Empire do exactly that. Mel Brooks is the green-skinned diminutive Yogurt, the sage that puts Lone Star wise in the ways of the Schwartz.

Throughout the movie there is no line of demarcation between what is just stupid and what is parody. If you are a fan of the Mel Brooks brand of humor, then you will love this movie. However, if your taste in humor is to be a little more cerebral, then you likely will not like it.

The best joke is based on the use of a winged Winnebago as the space vehicle piloted by Lone Star and Barf.

Spaceballs is a fantastic film for Sci-Fi / Fantasy lovers’ collection. It is mostly comedy with puns best understood by people who are familiar with other flix (especially Star Wars IV,V,VI). Pros: This DVD version was from the bargain bin, and as such is quite a good deal.

Quality was superb compared to the original VHS releases. Cons: Though, true collectors/fans should probably opt for the Blu-Ray edition. There is also a Mel Brooks film collection Blu-Ray that includes Spaceballs as well as other classics such as Young Frankenstein and Robin Hood: Men in Tights that would be a better deal if pursuing some of the other films.

This is probably one of the most blatant and EARLY RIP-OFFS of Star Wars not counting BATTLESTAR GALACTICA 1978 and the original V Miniseries. Both of those TV specials/series got sequels and reboots.

Making this film one of the FEW CLASSICS of the genre. Hopefully it will continue to AGE well! Blazing Saddles and History of the World Part 1 are my favorites but definitely R rated humor. Family Guy creator did a better job with their Sequels and in-jokes for MODERN teens and fans of SETH McFARLAND’s humor.

Leider kommt diese DVD in der Ausstattung recht karg daher. Abgesehen von den original Trailern gibt es keine nennenswerten Extras. Auch dass der Vorspann lediglich in englischer Bildschirmschrift mit schlechten deutschen Untertiteln zu sehen ist fllt negativ ins Gewicht, insbesondere da dies in der Fernsehfassung mglich war.

Nichtsdestotrotz: Der Preis ist fair,und wer mehr erwartet sollte zur Gold-Edition greifen.
