20 Best Solvent For Cleaning Engine Parts (2023 Updated)

I received and have been using this solution now for over a week in my parts cleaner tank for automotive parts of various types and grimes. It works fantastic on even tough grime and grease. I have been in this industry over 45 years and this is as good as I have used.

No big odor and doesn’t dry my hands out like some other products I have used. Highly recommend.

The stay pattern was good and the thickness was good, but the cleaning capability was terrible. Left it on for over an hour and tried it on hot parts and cold parts and it didn’t break up simple grease on them.

Had to use a wire brush and steamer gun to get the parts cleaned.

The ability to soften and remove old adhesives is a big plus.

I really didn’t have any dislikes. The degreaser worked great on my calipers and on the inside of my rims on my Jeep. I then used it on my engine and it basically hosed dirt and grime away. I’d definitely recommend it!.

I had a used vehicle with a dirty engine since I bought it. I eventually fixed several oil leaks. The top of the engine was black with several years of oil/dust coating. I started with the engine slightly warm.

I hooked up the hose to the hot water valve, and a squeeze spray nozzle that would give a high pressure spray. I wore safety glasses so I could watch where I was spraying and keep the spray-back out of my eyes.

Then I followed the directions. I was surprised how well it worked. If you clean cast iron with missing paint, it may rust after cleaning with this product.

Have used this stuff years. Has cleaned grease and gunk buildup off of everything from engine blocks, tractors, transmissions, transfer cases, body panels and other machinery, even my hands. As with any petrol product I followed it with soap and water of course.

All in all great stuff, have recommended it and will continue to use it for years to come.

Use at your own risk. Odor is so pungent it will linger for weeks if not months. Leaves a diesel fuel/kerosene type of smell that just won’t go away no matter how many times you rinse it. Degreases well, but not worth it.

Do yourself a favor and just use Simple Green or a spray bottle with some Dawn dish soap and water.

i have a 2002 honda civic lx for those that don’t know most hondas of this same generation are notorious for having loads of oil build up ive never seen no one who owns this generation honda with a clean engine bay.

well i bought two of these cans and well let me tell you i would of rate this a 5 on how well they worked unfortunately both cans didn’t wanna spray after a few pumps when my first can malfunction i gave it the benefit of the doubt but behold the second can did the same and not to mention it left my nice black trim with hideous white markings i almost ruined my engine by putting to much water trying to get rid of those stains but they are permanent now.

The CRC Parts Cleaner and Degreaser cleaned up an old engine I am working on. I have tried other products but nothing cleaned like this product. And this was a big job so with the larger CRC can I completed the task using one can.

My new go to Degreaser.

I have been a GUNK Degreaser fan for many years. It does the job other degreasers only wish they could! Way to go and not change the product that has degreased so many of my projects over the years.

Completely regret buying this one. Gunk used to make an citrus engine degreaser which worked great but I didn’t see that and figured their tried and true original product must work great or they wouldn’t have been making it so long – wrong.

it did a mediocre job of cleaning and the stink of it has lasted about a week after cleaning, despite rinsing it off several times. I’ll save the second can for the lawn tractor, but won’t be using this again on anything I drive.

I purchased the cleaner with high hopes…. unfortunately the product did not work as advertised. It did not loosen or remove any of the oil or dirt buildup, and required scrubbing. Any multipurpose cleaner is as good or better than this cleaner.

Save your money….

On a Porsche Engine with 13,000 miles, that visually did not need cleaning, it worked like a soft soap cleaner without suds would. On the inside hood of a well cared for 1998 RAV4, it was useless. Had to use several coats of “Oil & Grease Cleaner”, then, finished with “Engine Cleaner” solution.

I should have bought the larger liquid containers! Will I buy it again. not sure, I’ll look around for other products first.

Worked great on old Jaguar engine compartment that you can never power wash.

Got to the store expecting to get 6 or 7 gallons since the information indicated it was not a concentrate. Got the last 2 gallons TSC had after reading that it could be deluted. Mixed it 2 parts Krud Kutter to 3 parts water.

The results on a 65 year old tractor engine were impressive. Grease, carbon and dirt came right off. I have used commercial parts washer sollutions that were no better than this. TSC should update their web site to indicate it can be deluted.

I was very pleased with the effectiveness of Krud Kutter the first time I purchased it and have continued to use it for most of my DIYer projects requiring cleaning. It is especially useful for cleaning “crud” items like casters with caked grease & grime.

I don’t spend much time brushing. just soak the items over night and rinse off. I like the fact that it is essentially a non-petro product. Safe for storage.

Excellent cleaning properties, NON FLAMMABLE, safe on most metals, contains corrosion inhibitors, affordable, and it just plain works. Removes carbon and oil mist from Cummins after coolers. Cleans grease ,oil, carbon,and paint off of anything.

It will remove paint from metal if left soaking.

This is NOT a carb cleaner, nor is it much of anything more powerful than a mild engine degreaser. Contents appear to be mineral spirits with some degreasing detergents. 24 hr soaking does little to remove baked on engine grease, and even with a brass brush, parts do not finish as clean or complete as one would expect.

If you’re looking for a carb dip this product will disappoint greatly— underperforming like no other— if you’re looking for a parts degreaser, this product *might* work, but probably not very well.

I would recommend this for someone with a little fresh grease or paint on a smooth metal part. maybe. really not impressed. I will keep the can because it’s expensive, but I really will have to think about what I try to clean in it as it just isn’t up to the job.

plain mineral spirits do pretty much the same thing. sad.

This chem-dip carburetor and transmission parts cleaner is VOC compliant and works on most types of metals and alloys. It’s also safe to apply on plastic, rubber, and many types of painted components.

It effectively removes oil, grease, sludge, varnish, and more. It is non-chlorinated, nonflammable, and does not cause rusting. This product does a good job of eliminating gunk and removing surface rust.

When you use this cleaner, you do not have to incessantly scrape and scrub the parts or deal with noxious fumes generated by an aerosol carburetor cleaner.

Used in an ultrasonic cleaner. Soaked for 24 hours, then 2-3 30 minute cycles, and I still had to scrub. The old stuff was great, but this just doesn’t cut through the crud. Plain old kerosene works just as well, and is a lot cheaper.

Not going to buy again.

Used this to remove lanoguard from under car. Wasted time with expensive citrus cleaners and TFR’s which did nothing Tried gunk green which worked but this original gunk did it much quicker. Brush on leave for a few minutes and pressure wash off.

Wish I had bought this first would have saved a lot of time and money.

I bought this to decoke my diesel car’s intake manifold. The manifold was left overnight to soak in the Gunk & then power wash the next morning. I have to admit that the coke on the manifold was thick and well hardened & the worst was removed by a scraper.

Following the power wash the parts I couldn’t reach with the scraper were absolutely clean. The Gunk certainly did its job by softening the coke to enable ease of removal with the power washer. Would recommend to anyone in a similar predicament.

Does what its ment to do think instructions say to brush on found that using a pressure sprayer. Spraying on then scrubbing with a tooth brush then either washing off in the sink with a hose or pressure wash gives good results.

Have just done a very manky cylinder head this way and pressure washed off afterwards when a friend saw it they thought it was a new head!.

In the olden days I usek GUNK to clean some pretty grotty engines and motor parts and was always happy with it. As soon as this stuff arrived I thought it looked a bit “wishy washy”. This was born out by its totally underperforming abilities.

I dont want to have to do multiple applications, and getting into all the nooks and crannies is bad enough the first time round. This stuff is a very poor advert for a formerly respected brand. I’ll stick to washing up liquid and very hot water, or just switch to washing it with petrol.

I sprayed it on, waited and yes, used a stiff brush. All it did was move the sticky caked oil around to other areas. Worked OK on lightly oiled up areas but thats about it.

The only non negative thing I can write about the product is that it’s pinkish in colour. Bought this to clean out the leg of an outboard engine, it simply does not do what it says on the tin, do not believe any claim that it is in any way effective at removing “Gunk” it isn’t.

I ended up using Lidl “Elbow grease” washing up liquid and it was far more effective. The product is exceptionally mild and I’m not sure that it has any de-greasing qualities at all, to rub salt into the wounds I soaked the nylon brushes I use for cleaning in the garage overnight in this crud product and it didn’t even clean the nylon bristles off.

Save your money and time, don’t buy it.

Maybe showing my age but i remember when this product used to work. I applied as per instructions on a oilly engine and some hard plastic trim. Brushed in and rinsed with a jet wash. On the engine it sort of worked but on the plastic it did not touch.

Ended up using a cheap supermarket washing up liquid to clean. Which I had better results.

I’ve been using this for as long as I can remember, got to be getting on for 20 years! car engine, oily floor, greasy oven hood,. Indoor or outdoor, anything to do with oil, grease or grime and you’re in business.

Water based so no problems, no nasty smells either. I’ve never found a negative with Engine And Machine Cleaner full stop. If you’ve never used it you are missing out for sure. Buy a bottle and make life so much easier for yourself.

You get a bit suyncial with car care products but not this one. I was supprised just how easy and effective it was. Working a section at a time spray on brush in with a dust pan and brush set brush (no need for expensive detailing stuff) and then hose off.

Cleaned a 20 year old engine first pass. Did the whole engine in less than an hour and it looks like new.

There are few people that would relish the thought of cleaning a vehicles engine, why bother?, it’s rarely seen. But those who value their vehicle, will appreciate that this job can be made much easier with this superb product.

It’s not complicated to use and doesn’t require any tools or sophisticated methods for use, simply spray on and leave for a short while to allow the cleaner to work it’s magic on the grime that builds up in engine bays and the surronding area.

Then rinse off with a low pressure hose (not a jet wash) and wipe dry! Hey Presto one clean and always impressive engine and bay. If you really want to be proud of your powerhouse then finish the job off with the Vinyl and Rubber cleaner and protect which makes things shine! This is an independant review from a private van owner who used the product to clean a 3yr old large panel van with a diesel engine bay and I’m very happy I did it!.
