20 Best Socks To Prevent Blisters (2023 Updated)

I bought two pairs of these socks 5 years ago for mother/daughter backpacking trip (2 weeks) on the John Muir Trail. I’ve used them many more times as boot socks over the years. I’ve also hiked on the Tahoe Rim Trail (1 week), in Hawaii with Teva’s in rainforest and lava rock areas, and up to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon (day hike) in 115 degree heat from the Colorado River after rafting in those same socks! I discovered Balega training for my first marathon as a 49-year old runner.

I’ve never had a blister in Balega socks nor lost a toe nail (did lose a big toe nail after cycling from Montana through the Canadian Rockies in another brand). My husband and daughters all wear Balega now.

My only wish is that Balega made breathable, comfortable, stay-up, arch compressive crew socks in plain black, gray, brown, or navy that I could wear daily, with slacks and women’s flats wear when I can’t wear the colorful, more bulky Balega athletic socks!.

Good news: these socks are comfortable, fit perfectly, and provide some welcome extra cushion when running. Bad news: despite their billing as “Blister Resit,” I got five toe blister on my right foot the second time I wore them for a marathon.

That said, I don’t blame the socks. I’ve come to realize that blisters are the result of a combination of factors. In addition to socks, the fit of the shoe toe box, one’s skin’s sensitivity to dry and/or damp feet conditions, as well as to the friction caused by the sliding of the foot in the shoe, all of these factors, separately or together, can contribute to one’s propensity to develop blisters.

After trying many a brand of “blister proof” socks, I’ve come to the conclusion that such socks simply don’t exist, nor can any brand of socks on their own prevent blisters. But I will continue to run in these socks, because their excellent fit and comfort, NOT because they will prevent blisters.

I used to buy these when I was running a lot. They used to hold up well. Originally purchased at an Rei in 2016. I finally had to purchase new ones a few years later. Got it on Amazon. They didn’t last longer than 6 months and I wasn’t using them to run anymore.

That’s why I purchased the socks directly from Balega. Despite getting it from Balega the quality seems like it has changed since 2016. Despite the fact that it doesn’t seem to hold up as well as it did in 2016 they are still super comfortable.

Until I find a better product at the same price point I will prolly keep purchasing these.

I bought these skin socks because the pressure of my spring straps against the seam of my Bare low cut booties was causing a blister on the back of my ankle. These skins seem to have solved the problem based on two dives using them.

They are comfortable and fit well. My only minor complaint is they are designed with a seam down the center of your foot. Imagine wearing a sock where the seam went up and down the sole of your foot vertically.

When I first put them on, I thought this was going to be very irritating. Once I had them on and was in the water, it didn’t bother me, but it seems an odd choice to construct them this way. I wish they didn’t have that seam at all.

This is my follow-up review. I left a prior review mentioning that the seams came apart on my initial pair. Despite this, I got a replacement pair from LP because they definitely helped in preventing blisters.

It’s been awhile since my last dive and the replacements were never used; they were still new. After my second dive this weekend, this replacement set have come apart at the seams as well. It’s really unfortunate because they do provide that helpful barrier that I need but I simply can’t recommend this product based solely on the shoddy construction.

I don’t blame LP for this but I do hope they review this product and contact the manufacturer or offer a better alternative.

Bought some darn tough socks to go with my altra for hiking and had a bunch of issues with the socks squeezing my toes together and creating blisters. These are incredibly comfortable, allowing my toes to spread out.

Second liner prevents rubbing. They dry fast! Just beware if you have some abnormal toe shapes, might not fit all.

I got these for a hiking trip that my daughter is going on. She doesn’t like to wear socks she has been breaking in some new boots and wearing these socks. She says these were the most comfortable socks ever.

A little pricey but worth the investment.

This sock is truly a breakthrough when it comes to hiking footwear. So many liner sock combinations cramp the toes and prevent them from moving properly and messing up your gait. The combination of a toe liner that allow free movement with a generous over-sock will help avoid blisters while keeping the entire body engaged in fluid motion.

Brilliant. My son wears them under his school uniform – all windows and doors are permanently open in his school due to Covid, and these keep him warm at his desk all day long. Also they are soooooo comfortable and not at all itchy.

Quarter length socks are my preference for tennis & general wear but I’m fed up with the limited choice of black or white that the big name manufacturers sell so, hello 3 pairs of Danish blue ! Really comfortable & hard wearing, they wash well &, having tried them for a month, I’m so pleased I’ve just ordered another 6 pairs !.

Really high quality socks. Only washed them twice but non of them have any signs for wear. Holds up super well and dry quick. Will be getting more when / if they go on sale since they are so expensive

Best footies I’ve purchased! Happened to stumble upon these by chance a few years ago and kept meaning to purchase a couple more pairs. Glad I finally bought two more pair from Sockgeek. com! EPIC SOCK!!!! The BEST brand sock brand ever! I run in the Hidden Comfort and LOVE them! I am 60 years old I run 3 1/2 to 4 miles five times a week 5 foot 430 pounds. When my pool is open I’ll swim three times a week as well so I’m really active.

I’m really picky about my workout gear… I happen to long this brand of sock and absolutely fell in love with them! My left foot sometimes has slight plantar fascia symptoms but with this sock there is zero! The hidden comfort cushioning just adds to the cushioning of my Brooks adrenaline shoes.

Super comfy, true to size, Balega quality. I wear 7. 5 women’s shoe and ordered a small, they are a wonderful fit. I also own several pair of Hidden Contour Recycled and Silver No Show Running socks, as far as I’m concerned, they’re all wonderfully supportive and comfortable.

I wear these as my every day socks as well as for walking 3+ miles/day and though I’ve only had these ones a week or so, I have other Balega sock that are several years old that are in excellent condition.

I’ve got my fingers crossed these ones will serve me equally well.

I am really enjoying these socks so far. They are very durable and comfortable. Due to the nature of my work, I need to wash these after almost every use so they have already made their way through the washer and dryer a few times.

I have noticed that the threads aren’t as neat as when I first got them, but the durability is still holding up. I mentioned in my title that this is a tentative review because I won’t know how I will truly feel about these socks until I’ve had them for a year or two.

I develop holes in my socks very quickly and I was drawn to your company because 1) you claim they last a long time and 2) you guarantee a new pair when the old one gets holes in it. Given these two things, I won’t know for sure how much I really like these until I see how long it takes to wear them out and I go through the customer service experience of returning the old ones and receiving a new pair.

I try to use my old socks as rags to reduce waste, so I’m not crazy about the idea of having to ship a pair of old socks, and I want to make sure your company is doing something sustainable with these old socks when you receive them (hopefully you don’t just throw them away).

I’m 6’2, around 275 lbs, stocky build, and I purchased the T3006 over-the-calf lightweight tactical sock with cushion, which are incredibly comfortable and fit perfectly. I serve in the military and am on my feet 10-12 hours a day.

What I appreciate most is, at the end of the day, my feet and calves do not feel fatigued. Over time most socks I have owned lose their elasticity, but these socks stay tight around my calves all day long.

They are just too Darn Tight. They fit my foot proper perfectly and I know you want them to stay up in all kinds of wear but they cut off my circulation at the top, leaving a large and painful indent.

I’ve tried many pairs; they are very well made, wash beautifully and don’t itch. Most importantly they are warm and comfortably dry. I have slit and tape-bound all the pairs I have bought before and will still wear them under my cold desk as long as that jury-rigging last.

And I’ve tried and return many more; these last returned were supposed to be the most relaxed. I really wish you made a style that was non-binding. Having your blood cut off while working hours on end from a home office is not good….

I think we can agree that blood clots are to be avoided. Your ribbing does an excellent job of holding its place so please consider offering a style that doesn’t choke at the cuff. Your work staff, customer relations and long standing guarantee are outstanding and you would have a lifelong customer if I could only find a sock that fit!.

I am working on managing and reversing my Type 2 Diabetes. A large part of this involves various types of exercises, for which diabetic socks are useful. However, after a while mine unraveled and became stretched out.

I went to my local store to look at another brand for replacements, but stumbled across these. When I read that they were meant for activities that are rough on your feet, they grabbed my attention. Even though running is not one of the activities I participate in (I lift weights, do some cardio and also walk for miles), I still bought them because they looked well-made and had what I call a “Goldilocks” amount of cushioning – not too much, not too little, but just right.

I chose “Medium” size because I wear between an 8. 5 – 9 in athletic shoes; I also have wide feet and lower arches now. It turned out to be one of the best decisions ever! If you are reading this review (thank you!) and have Diabetes or just want non-binding socks, please check this brand out.

The cushioning helps avoid chafing; there is a seam at the top, but it is very faint. I have not had the issue I had with other types of socks where the inside seam rubbed against my toes so much that it caused damage to the nails.

The fabric is very comfortable in hot or cold weather and environments. The ankle height cuff does not slide down nor does it cut off your circulation from being too tight. As a bonus, they are not slippery on the bottom, so if you even want to just buy a pair of these to kick back in, you don’t have to worry about sliding all over the place.

I will be actively looking to buy more from other local locations. My only wish is that they came in a multi-pack as I’ve seen online.

I’ve been wearing these since ’07. I drive a truck, do oilfield work, run big equipment, all of which are hell on socks. My first full length pair lasted 11 years, 11 years of hell. Oilfield trucks are often hell on the left foot.

Too many miles, too old and the clutches are like pushing a bull through a trailer door. Boots, really good boots, last a year and the left one is worn out. These things have saved my life for more than a decades and they just keep on keeping on.

They let the sweat go through when you have good boots that let the sweat go too. I used to go through a pair of regular cotton socks in 2 days at times. When I got a chance to not constantly shift they’d last a month.

maybe. I went through all sorts of brands and get slightly better results. I just tried a pair of these one day even though they were expensive. I couldn’t believe the comfort nor the durability. They were the best thing in my lift including heavy Wranglers, all the HD shirts, everything I wore.

If you need some comfort and work hard, this sock can’t be beat.

I’ve been wearing these for years and they helped me overcome horrible problems with blisters on the strike pads of my feet; no matter what, I always started getting blisters at about the 4 mile mark of walking.

These still seem to still be the most padded socks on the market and even with all the newer well cushioned shoes, I’m afraid to try anything else. The down side is I consistently get holes in my big toe.

I thought maybe it was just me, but another friend says she has the same problem. I try to catch early and can darn, but it’s frustrating. I have other brands, including Thorlo Expedia that I wear for other uses and those never get the holes as do the original Thorlo’s.

That is the reason I downgraded a star.

Feetures are my absolute favorite socks! They wear well and feel so good on my feet. I love the compression in the arches. I noticed that these neon ones I just ordered don’t have the R & L designations on them.

I love these socks!!!! They are so comfortable and always stay on your feet, no slipping off your heel. Going from wearing sandals one day to socks and shoes the next was a bit of a struggle until I started wearing Feetures.

I had grabbed another brand out of the drawer, and they were very constricting. Then I put on the Feetures and total comfort was there. They are the only brand I will be using from now on.

I bought these for use on a charity walk I am doing in August, for McMillan Cancer Support, I have used blister protection socks before (1000 mile socks ). Which worked great , these socks however are very tight because of the design of the type of sock , however no matter how I tried I could not get them to fit perfectly without a large ruffle of sock behind the toes.

I had to return them because they would not be suitable for the 96 miles in four days West Highland Way Challenge without causing foot problems.

Have now equipped the whole family with thrse. Sooo comfy. We’ve all been living in these all winter. Dont wsit to go walking to wear them (although theyre btillisnt for that too!

These are brilliant. I have used them for a few years now. They are superb for keeping feet comfortable and their design stops any rubbing, the foot feels secure. I walk many miles a week and would never use any other sock in my walking boots.

So I bought 1 pair of 3 different brands of diabetic socks to compare. I need a size 13 sock. The SmartKnit seamless socks are the thinnest ones, but they are a very good quality sock, but for an x-large, size 12 is more true to their limit.

The Doc Ortho XL, fit me just fine, a good quality sock, and are also the thicker of the 3 pairs I bought. They would be better suited for fall, or winter. My favorite pair, for warmer weather, are the Actifi truly soft white XL.

They are affordable, well made, fit size 13, and are comfortable, and the blend is supportive, and not too hot. They remind me of my Wigwam socks, but they don’t sit so high on my ankle. I will be buying a few more pairs of the Actifi diabetic socks.

They were all great socks, I now know which ones work for me.

These compression socks are amazing! I had multiple surgeries on my leg and required a boot. It came with 1 of these socks. I was surprised this was comfortable and easy to put on and take off. Keeps swelling down and keeps its shape after multiple washings.

I have bought several pairs and have been very pleased with my purchase.

I’ve been a diabetic for over 40 years and have tried all sorts of compression hoses and devices. This is the first time I’ve worn socks that didn’t remind me, in someway, that they were on my feet. I even went to bed and forgot to take them off.

That’s how comfortable they are. I will be ordering more in the near future.

These socks perform modestly well. There are no glaring issues with the socks. However, on the inside of the ankle, there appears to be a spot where the fabric is overstretched just based on it’s design.

I do not have particularly large feet (I wear a men’s US size 9 shoe) so I am pretty certain my feet are not too large for the product. Nevertheless, the socks do provide pretty comfortable support and feel good to wear.

They feel snug around the foot but not overly tight – which I consider to be a good quality in a sock. Overall, these don’t stand out as a special sock, but they work just fine!.

I bought these for my husband, who is very picky about sock comfort. Needless to say, I ended up buying 6 pairs in assorted colors. He loves them and won’t wear anything else. They have a slight compression, which he likes.

I love these socks! Especially for hiking as they help in not getting blisters-and they work! I went on a hike in Oregon for hours and my feet not only felt supported but these socks also kept my feet dry.

1000 Mile 3/4 season Fusion socks. Absolutely brilliant. Warm, comfortable and no blisters. I am prone to heel blisters from my hillwalking boots and bought these in an effort to prevent them. Having just done a 20km walk in Kintail with 1300m ascent in very wet conditions I finished with no blisters (I would have certainly had heel blisters before).

These are excellent socks. I was sent a pair by the manufacturer to try and I’m so pleased I tried them. There are superb, protective in all the right places, perfect fitting and no blisters! I’ve washed them a few times and they still look like new.

I love them and already have several more pairs. I had tried cheaper double layer socks before and not liked them, but these are perfect. The inner layer hugs your foot and wicks away moisture, the outer layer provides the cushioning.

The colours are good too!.

I’ve been using 1000 mile 3 season socks for years and they are fantastic. Comfortable and warm in the winter and they’re short length makes them great for summer too. I own around 6 pairs (!) and replace them when they eventually wear out.

As a professional dog walker and avid outdoor person I wear a pair almost every day, whether in hiking boots, wellies or waders. They wear and wash well too and I’ve never had blistered feet. I’ve had numerous wool socks over the years, and 1000 mile 3 season are my favourites.

New pair of orthotics were giving me blisters in my well-loved boots, so gave these a try. Problem solved. Toe socks are new to me, but I didn’t even notice the difference while hiking. The extra material from the inner toe socks do take up more room in the toe box of, but it was not a problem in the roomy Salomon toe box.

I have never worn a sock liner before. Compared to Wright Socks these are a little more finicky to put on. Once on they are more comfortable for longer. No blisters, wash well. Bought them on sale, I am happy I tried them.

These socks wear out VERY quickly. I liked them so much that I ended up buying a total of 7-8 pairs. However, they’re already developing holes. The main spot for me in at the ball of the foot (the metatarsal area).

I use them for regular wearing around the house, in shoes around town, and to the gym or when running. I think using these socks for running would be I’ll-advised. They’re already quite thin off the rack in the manufacturer packaging.

I’m not sure what I was thinking using them for running. I have some SmartWool socks that are also quite thin that I’ve used when running before, but come to think of it those have a tighter weave than these do.

A higher “thread count” which is never thought of when it comes to socks but it seems plenty applicable in this instance. I think these are good socks for wearing around the house. They are rather expensive at $15/each though.

I thought they’d be a good vegan substitute for SmartWool (a non-cotton sock that also doesn’t have wool) that wicks sweat well. I really like how long I can wear these. With cotton socks they feel damp after a few hours and I’d typically end up changing socks multiple times per day.

These Wright Socks ventilate my feet well and I can easily wear the same pair for more than 24 hours straight. No dampness or smelliness. I would not use these for running or hiking.

Long-time hiker and backpacker. This is now my go-to sock. The double-liner is highly effective in preventing blisters. On a recent multi-day backpacking trip, I kept re-using my one pair of CoolMesh II, even though they were gross, because they were the only pair that I could be entirely confident wouldn’t cause blisters.

I was inspired to buy more. Other observations: – It’s much more comfortable than the usual practice of doubling up on socks, but with the same results. More breathable than two socks, leading to less heat build-up.

– The liner is very soft and comfortable, and feels good next to the feet. – The double layer has the added bonus of extra cushioning, with the convenience/space saving advantage of only needing one sock.

Highly recommend.

Honestly, I am flabbergasted at how fast these socks are deteriorating. First glance out of the package, they are amazing. Several washes and wears later, we’re falling apart across the board. Holes in the bottom, threads pulling out, holes in the toes INSIDE of the sock (which has two layers.

which is seemingly part of the problem – design flaw). This is my first product review. maybe ever. nearly 20 years shopping at REI, untold sum of money spent and the quality of both REI and supported products is declining.

To be fair, I also purchased several pairs of REI socks, orders of magnitude cheaper, and they are performing extremely well and am quite satisfied. Avoid these socks like the plague and go with what you know.

I really like the Thorlo Running Maximum Cushion Crew Socks. They are very comfortable to wear and the extra padding in the socks protects the balls of my feet from the pain I feel when wearing thinner socks while jogging or standing all day on a concrete floor working in a factory.

The material is soft against my skin, but seems to be strong and durable. The socks stay in place without putting pressure on my feet, ankles or calves. These socks are excellent when they are new. However, the padding in the socks at the balls of my feet does wear thin after many uses and washes.

Despite this fact, I continue to buy these socks because they are the best socks I have found for my feet.

The shoes and socks ordered at the same time. I hit the review button and really only wanted to review the shoes but that was not an option. Love the socks anyway. If any of your shoes are close to being snug, these socks take up a lot of room.

I bought the HOKA STINSON ATR 6 for my husband since he thought the Brooks Ghost were no longer cushiony enough (I agree, my Ghost 13 are pretty awful) My husband has a fused R ankle which causes a slight limp and when you limp it can cause jarring on one foot and leg.

He is really impressed with the support, fit, feel and cushion of this shoe. He rarely jogs, mostly walks and loves his shoes that he got for Christmas 2020.

Thorlos are not socks. They are clouds for your feet! Seriously comfortable. It is notable that I will not wear any other footw coverings with my shoes except Thorlos. Two friends I recommended try Thorlos.

Both are also converts. Thorlos RULE!.

I can’t praise this product enough, the support it gives as if we’re custom made to fit. I was a bit reluctant as I usually go for high cotton content, but have to say no issues with sweating in man made.

Wash well too, true to size, ensure reshape when washed. I have 4 pairs now, Excellent product.

These socks are really nice and comfy and a lot thicker than I expected. I have some Ecco walking shoes that I was struggling to find socks for to prevent blisters but allowed my feet to breathe, and these socks did the trick.

I am no hiker or walker so cant comment on how they’d perform in the wild, but I walk about 3 miles a day going to and from work so the socks do the job I need them to. Recommended.

Nice, comfortable but found the two layers result in them shifting around a bit. Haven’t used them for hiking yet, so can’t say if it will impact that.

Still looking forward to wearing them, as they’ve just arrived today. They look good, are thick and feel warm and durable.

I bought a pair of these socks, a few years back, as I wanted a good “no show” sock that would stay up and I also wanted to give a wool sock a try. I think wool is super cool as it’s both a natural material and has good insulation characteristics.

Anyway, the sock worked out well. In the past, I’ve had issues with cotton “no show” socks like this fall back down, under my heel, but I haven’t had this problem at all with these FITS socks. I liked them so much I recently threw out all my older cotton socks and bought a bunch of these FITS socks.

They make up my entire collection of short socks now. They feel fine throughout the day. My feet tend to run hot but I haven’t had any issue with these socks.

Fits socks. The ONLY socks in my socks drawer. Found these at a local shoe store a few years ago. At first I was taken back by the price tag but decided to dive in anyway due to the feel and construction of the sock.

I have not turned back The light runners are great for summertime wear, general walking, and (for me) treadmill time. I wore these socks on all my vacations over the past few years. They’ve included cycling the Erie Canal, a hike in the mountains of northeastern New Mexico, a hikes at Glacier National Park, and recently, a vacation to Denali.

Fits socks go with me everywhere and the low, light runners are perfect for the warmer weather.

I called before placing my order online. I asked the customer service representative about any sales. The rep denied knowledge of any current or upcoming sales. Less than 24 hours after placing my order, I received email notice of a 20% off sale.

Arghh. RE: Ultra Light Runner No Show the chose on Website called Minimalist/ Packaging received calls it Women’s Style — The website says 66% Merino Wool content. The stickers on the packages I received (2 pair of these socks) says 73%.

The pair I purchased previously also says 73%. Which is it? — what the website says or what the sticker say? I use the FITS socks to manage symptoms of two vasospactic disorders I have in my feet. One of the disorders is very rare.

FITS socks are the only socks I am able to tolerate wearing for any signficant period of time.

Can’t give it 5-stars as I haven’t as yet used them for running, but for gym and casual use they are a great fit (I’m UK size 8). Feel good quality and the material ‘hugs’ your feet so they are comfy as well.

The socks are great for running but I haven’t tested them for a long run like a marathon. I hope they do what they are supposed to do but it does feel cheaper

Highly uncomfortable socks not worth of the price I bought this pair of running socks because of the promise made by Decathlon on the. Precisely the should be “designed for runners training more than twice a week looking for thick socks for added comfort and protection.
